Just a volume pedal with two switches on the side for the compressor- level and volume. These switches are onlt active when the compressor is on. To activate compression, just push forward on the pedal- volume pedal spect works all the time. Battery is easy to access- I just wish that the volume pedal worked with the battery dead, although I guess with optical controls that wouldn't be possible

Some very cool aspects of this pedal. The best thing is that when the compressor is on, compression level is affected by how where the volume pedal is. So at lower volume levels the sound is less compressed. Add to this the compression controls which range from mild to extreme compression, and you have a much more usable range of compression than most compressors. Downside- almost total loss of high-end when using extreme compression. Also, the volume attenuation isn't completely smooth- there is definitely a point where the volume jumps from 0 to 3. But the optical controls feel nice, and giarantee no scratchiness.

It's built well, as long as i am confident in the battery, I use it with no fear. To be honets, I don't use the compressor that much anyways.

Overall, for a volume pedal I wish I'd gotten an Ernie Ball. As far as a compressor goes, it is a very cool idea, and works pretty well. I don;t have much use for compression myself, but for people who do it is a unique item.
