Ease of Use : 10
Couldnt be easier to use... 3 knobs that all do what their suppoed to.

Sound Quality : 9
Excellent. I was quite impressed when I first plugged it in. Right off the bat I was blown away with the meat this pedal has. It is very versatile as well, the low drive setting is practically clean and the high drive setting provides a nice beefy overdrive. The pedal is VERY quiet as well. I also used it on some recording sessions and it translates to tape superbly... With over 25 years as a touring musician, session player and producer, this is my favorite overdrive. I rate a 9 instead of 10 as sound is a subjective thing, but on my rig I love it and will never part with it.

Reliability : 10
Have not toured with it yet, but Goudie FX comes with a 2 year warranty and the build quality is excellent. The pedal casing is sturdy and the soldering work inside is pristine. It is clear that Russell Goudie takes pride in his work. We need more like him!

Customer Support : 10
I was dealing with Russell directly and I can honestly say this is the BEST customer service I have ever received from any vendor. I was treated with respect and professionalism. He even followed up with me to ensure I was happy with the product. It doesnt get any better than that!

Overall Rating : 10
I play many types of music from Country/Gospel to Hard Rock. I have been doing this for over 25 years now (man I'm getting old!) I use Fender strat US made all original. I also use a Custom built Fender strat with EMG pups. I have a 72 Peavey T-60 as well and I like this guitar very much. I have Fender amps and Some Peavey as well. I have compared Goudie FX to Boss, Digitec etc... and it is way above the rest. I will be changing all my pedals to Goudie FX eventually. Thanks Russell, I will be dealing with you again soon...

Ease of Use : 10
Pretty straight forward. Three knobs - level, tone, gain. There's also a toggle switch to toggle between symetrical and asymetrical clipping (SD-1 vs 808) Just plug it in and you'll get a good sound. very easy to use.

Sound Quality : 10
This unit does not add any noise to your signal at all. It is very transparent and really lets the tone of your guitar shine through. You can go from SRV type crunch to a great overdriven sound. I run my Strat through the GoudieFX Compressor > Fulltone Ultimate Octave > Goudie FX 808+ > EHX Small Clone Chorus > Traynor YCV20WR with 1 x 12 Extension Cab. This is the chain I normally use. I have way too many pedals to list and have to get rid of a bunch now. This one is definitely a keeper.

Reliability : 10
Absolutely. Built like a rock. Cracked it open and found that the work inside was pristine.

Customer Support : 10
I've dealt with Russell Goudie a few times. I bought his Compressor and now the 808+. He is a pleasure to deal with. All emails were responded to promptly. Sounds like a great guy. I'm now waiting for him to start selling his dealy pedal.

Overall Rating : 10
Simply put I play for fun. Been playing seriously for about 10 years but I've been messing around with guitars for 20+ years. I playing mainly blues and stick to SRV, Clapton, Hendrix type of stuff but I dabble in everything else - what ever I want. I would definitely buy this pedal again if it were lost or stolen. This time I would buy the finished one. Mine is a metal box with knobs and a switch - no paint job. I've compared it to the Sparkle Drive and the Fulltone Full Drive 2 - Goudie FX 808+ came out on top - hands down.

Ease of Use : 10
This pedal is pretty straightfoward. Gain, tone, level knobs plus a clipping switch to switch between asymetrical or symetrical clipping.

Sound Quality : 10
I play several different guitars through this. A 52RI tele, an Agile LP copy, and a Fender Strat w/ Fat 50's installed). I have a fairly large pedalboard which utilize true bypass loopers (to make it easier to switch effects on and off and to take out the non-true bypass pedals. The 808+ does not add any noise at all. It is very transparent and really lets the tone of your guitar shine through. When I had it made, I was mostly playing single coil guitars and had goudie beef up the bottom end a bit to compensate. I am running this into a new Vox AC30CC2 w/wharfedales.

Reliability : No Opinion
Russell's wiring is top notch. Finely crafted PCB's and bulletproof enclosures. I wouldn't gig without backups because you never know but, I have a tonne of confidence in taking this pedal out to a gig.

Customer Support : 10
Russell is awesome! He'll answer any question you may have. He's always very friendly and loves to chat gear!

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play lots of different kinds of music. From albert king to radiohead to zz top and this pedal seems to be able to do it all with ease.

This is my 2nd of 3 pedals that I purchased from Russell Goudie, so beware that I'm now obviosly a fan of his stuff. Once you hear the amazing transparency of his pedals, you will be sold as well. This is the handmade clone of the famous Ibanez pedal. It is very easy to get a fabulous sound out of this thing, but like all great pedals, there are many cool settings to discover. The + designation of this pedal refers to some common mods that supply even less gain and even more gain, than the original Ibanez pedal. The unit comes with a single sheet of paper of info.

Sound Quality : 10
The 808+ is unusually quiet throughout the entire tweakability range. It's the sound of your guitar that comes through so well with this thing. Richer and tighter in a way. My rig is a Japanese Fender 62' Jazzmaster, Goudier Compressor, Goudier 808+, Goudier Crystal Boost, aAnalogueman Chorus, Goudier modified Guyatone MD3 delay, Fender Blues Jr.(usa). Sounds really good. The efect level of this 808+ is both less than the original, and 2x more than the original.

Reliability : 10
Russell handmakes all his pedals and houses them in a small, MXR sized case. The knobs are quality and the switch is naturally a True-Bypass. Zero tone rob when the unit is off. All his pedals are guaranteed for 2 years. I would say that they are very dependable. His stuff is very Keeley-like, in both construction and sound, although I voted with my dollars.

Customer Support : 10
The best. E-mails returned promptly. Super helpful and waaayyy eager to please. Just his repair/modify other peoples pedals service alone is worth the price of admission. The cool thing with Russell is that if you want to modify, no problem. It's cool that he's not yet as busy as aAnalogman.

Overall Rating : 10
I play a strange freeform kind of affair with some country thrown in, think Pretenders/Wilco. Been playing longer than I care to admit since my playing prowess doesn't match the years but I ain't complaining. If this were stolen I would buy another in a heartbeat. The 808 gets those cool overdriven Pretenders tones that sound soooo good.

This is the 2nd pedal that I buy from Russell Goudie, an electrical engineer from Canada that moonlights as a strat blaster and boutique pedal maker. His design philosophy is simple, best parts, best tone. I'm not quoting him, but that's the gist of it. Like his Ross Compressor Clone, this pedal has an astoundingly low noise floor. Eerily transparent. Since this is basically a clone of the Ibanez 808, it delivers the same smooth overdrive. The three controls are the same as the Ibanez. The + designation of this model is that it has a wider window of gain capability than the original. The pedal is very easy to figure out.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using this with a 62' Japanese reissue Jazzmaster, Goudie Compressor, Analogman Chorus, Guyatone MD3 Delay into a Fender USA Blues Junior. This rig is fabulous. Amazing the amount of great gear available today. Anyway, as I mentioned, this pedal is ultra low noise. Since it has a wider spectrum of drive than the std. 808, the effect is easily detectable as it should be. I only use this type of effect to solo, as I generally like a clean sound.

Reliability : 10
I think that givin the attention to quality that Russell has, reliability is not an issue. At any rate, he offers a 1 year warranty. It is built like an MXR pedal. ie., think Tank- like.

Customer Support : 10
Again, customer support is terrific, as Russell will e-mail you back right away. Communication here is the best. No worries.

Overall Rating : 10
I like too many styles of music to mention but I will say that I've found a pedal maker that makes pedals that inspire my playing. They make you smile with pleasant surprise. I'm a real stickler for sound quality as I have a pretty good ear and am a high-end audio enthusiast. These pedals pass my jaded, snobby tests easily. Highly and enthusiastically recommended!!!

Three knobs: Drive, Tone, Volume. No manual but comes with a sheet which gives some suggested settings. Mine has a toggle switch for assymmetrical or symmetrical diode clipping. Bright blue LED rounds it out. As easy to use as any overdrive or an Ibanez Tubescreamer pedal (after which it is modeled). Input/output jacks and runs on a 9 volt battery or Boss type power supply. Is modded for a better sound with greater tonal range and quieter operation. Has the same chip as the original Ibanez TS808 pedal. This pedal differs from the Goudie FX 808 Standard in that the 808 Plus has the Less/More mod which gives 2 times the drive of an unmodded Tubescreamer with the drive all the way up while lower settings have less drive than an unmodded Tubescreamer.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using this with a mid-1960's tube amp as well as a Fender Princeton Chorus. Also sounds great with my Marshall MG15DFX. Fender Jeff Beck Strat w/noiseless pickups and Fender Strat Plus with Lace Sensors. Is not at all noisy. The knobs have a wide range of tones available. Sounds wonderful when paired with a compressor and works well as a boost for other drive pedals or as a volume boost for an amp. Sounds alot like a modded Keeley 808 or TS9 with the Less/More mod. Has plenty of headroom and smooth tones. The switch allows you to choose either assymmetrical clipping which is reminiscent of a Boss SD1 or symmetrical which sounds more like an Ibanez TS9 or 808. Has a very warm sound and works well with other effects such as chorus and delay. Would work for classic rock and pop (which I play mostly) as well as country, jazz, and blues. Very versatile pedal. Am very well-pleased and satisfied with the sound quality of this pedal. It has more drive available than the Goudie FX 808 Standard which is helpful for heavier sounds in some songs. Can be further boosted by another overdrive for an even stronger overdriven tone. To my ears it sounds just as good if not better than Robert Keeley's TS9 Mod Plus for a fraction of the price, plus the assym/symm switch gives more variety of tones readily available.

Reliability : 10
No problems as of yet. Have been using it for a little under a month quite regularly. Seems very well made and dependable. The manufacturer offers a no questions asked one year guarantee. The pedal is made of quality parts and has a sturdy metal casing. No graphics or writing on the pedal I purchased. Would gig without backup. I feel his workmanship and materials will hold up in the long run.

Customer Support : 10
Found out about Goudie FX on Ebay and contacted the owner, Russell Goudie, via his website goudiefx.com. His replies to my inquiries were both timely and informative. He is an electrical engineer based in Canada who plays in a band and builds effects pedals in his spare time. Both his website and pedals are no-frills which keeps the cost down but he doesn't cut any corners when it comes to quality. He let me know via email when the pedal was finished and when it shipped.

Overall Rating : 10
This is my second Goudie FX pedal. Russell Goudie makes pedals that sound truly beautiful. No exception here. This is a fine overdrive pedal. Probably the best I have come across for the money based on its features. Have been playing for nearly 22 years and own several other overdrive pedals (Barber, Boss, Roger Mayer, Ibanez, Fulltone, Keeley, etc. both modded and unmodded) plus some real junk pedals (won't mention any names). The Goudie FX 808 Standard is not junk but rather a finely crafted work that is great for anyone who likes a versatile overdrive with more gain than a stock Tubescreamer. It is much less expensive than other modded Tubescreamers but is just as great in terms of both tone and usability. I highly recommend it to anyone. Russell Goudie is one of the nicest people I have come across on the web and he will treat you right. I took a chance on his work and am glad I did. If stolen I would buy another. Goudie FX is a class operation all the way.
