I have found this tube is very excellent for the sound quality and quietness.
The 12at7 has less gain compared to a 12ax7. I actually use on a Tube works provalve-60 amp that has 2-6L6 power tubes for the power section and 1-12ax7 for the preamp/overdrive channel. I kept getting alot noise and sum slight hum on high gain 12ax7 tube on the overdrive channel. I have tried all kinds of tubes, Sovtek, stock tube works, russian and chinese groove tubes,Electro harmonix, marshall branded 12ax7 from the early 90's era that were NOS.An I actually had a new 12at7 laying around that I had when i had my marshall power amp, I was going to change it out but I had kept the tube and sold the power amp. Much to my suprise, I was really impressed with the results, It totally stopped the noise and hum, The overdrive itself is articulate and just right, i was realy, really suprised, It definatly made me look at 12at7-compared too 12ax7 in a different way, High gain tubes are not always better. My sound is more hard rock influenced, led zep, ac/dc ect.

I would have to say groove tubes are reliable, I know at one point there tubes were made by sovtek and branded with the gt brand, Sovtek are good economical tubes also, but lose there tonal quality after time, but what tube doesnt.I have used groove tubes since the early 90's and have has ggod results.Good tubes for the money.

Easy to put in. Just takes a screw driver to open up the amp and a few minutes of your time.

I think it does its job. I did make the amp quieter since they have lower gain than a 12AX7. I've tried a few phase inverters and it's hard to tell much of a difference between them. Don't get me wrong, they sound great, but I can't really say that they stand out among the rest.

What can I say? It's a phase inverter. I wasn't blown away by anything.
