As you might expect ........its a distortion pedal so the user has a fairly good idea of what they are looking for and how to get it..

Sound Quality : 9
This pedal (and others from the late seventies and early eighties) should be classed somewhere between overdrive and distortion. It does not have the high tops of some modern metal boxes but a single coil bridge pickup already adds heaps of highs anyway.

Reliability : 10
Its already 24 years old so...........go figure

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea

I play in several groups around the country... sort of an on-call guitarist. I use this pedal on my board for blues/rock solos through an equalizer when playing an '85 Fender japan Strat with Texas Specials on the Bridge position. This Strat has been modded with a penny roll sized mid '60s 'Chicago' tone capacitor that really fattens up any single coil output. Final word is this Guyatone pedal will soar if you set it up right and crank it open.

Couldn't be any simpler. Three knobs and a big pedal shaped button.

Sound Quality : 8
The level knob is basically volume so if your amp is not up high don't have the level high or else it's to be way louder and wake people up and they'll shout at me......The brilliance is easy to find settings you like as it really very from low to high. Distortion isn't quite as good or varying as the others but it still has a fairly good range.

Reliability : 8
The switch in mine broke after a few days but it is second-hand and it's obviously been badly mistreated (one of the knobs has been pulled of and half the paint is gone) Otherwise it's a hefty piece of metal that can take a severe kicking

Customer Support : No Opinion
When it broke I took it to the shop and had no contact with the manfacturer.

Overall Rating : 10
It makes the guitar sound very dangerous and angry, but put a bass through it and it's the best, funkiest, fuckyouiest, primal-scream-hippy-killing machine you'll get for the price!

How easy is the Guyatone PS-001 DISTORTION it is so easy your Piano playing mum could get her head round it, for a start it`s big black with bright pink lettering, it`s got three knobs Level, Brilliance and Distortion and these basicly stand for volume, tone and heavyness. Now don`t get me wrong I`m not saying the stomp box will kill your sound if you set the distortion low and the brilliance low you will get a rich warm fuzz if you set the brilliance high and the distortion low you will get some really nice top end sound, but if you set the brillance low and I mean reaaly low and the distortion high this box will burn you Grannys pant off and thats cool, I once played throught it in to my Pevey Backstage Plus with the stach on and the windows open and the Police came round for a nice chat about noise pollution.

Sound Quality : 7
Is it noisy? Damn right it is, it`s a distortion box it will give you the effect you want and your mother a head ache and we all know thats what distortion is for. But to be serious it will out distortion my friends Boss HM, and out warm his fuzz, if you get it set right.

Reliability : 10
This box is reliability, it is more dependable that my Cry Baby, at a recent gig I kick it of the stage on to a passing moshers head (he kindly threw it back, and I brought him a drink afterwards.) and it didn`t miss a beat just kept going this box has been dropped, kick, thrown and abused and it just keeps going (for a box without a battery cover thats good.).

Customer Support : 9
I phoned Guyatone to ask about a battery cover but they said that the modal I own was out of prodution for the last three years, but the did send me a new cataloge of their effects and a battery and they were very polite

Overall Rating : 10
I would buy this unit again and again and again if I could in 20 months of hard service it hasn`t complained, stop or not been cool. When I brought the unit the bloke I got if off said he had used it well and it could stop at any time but it just keeps going. What I love about it is the colours black and pink, I love the missing battery cover, I love the all over paint chiping I love the way the little light flashes when the battery is low and I love the sounds it makes pure cream in a box. The only thing I wish it had is a row of chorus girls that jump out when you stamp it (I know I`m a sad man but you have to hope.) (sorry girls for any offence.).
