Best 'envelope filter' I have ever heard. It sounds awesome. I have never compared to an original Mu-tron so I can't compare, but this thing definitely BEATS THE PANTS off the Dr. Q and the Mu-Tron and the DOD Envelope. No noise between notes even with driven amp.

Seems solid enough. Not as solid as an original Rat or whatever.
The rubber thingie which holds on the bottom plate is going to wear out eventually and then that will be a problem.

BEST envelope filter I've ever heard. At 30 used this pedal was an incredible deal. I will get a lot more use out of it than my Dr. Q, which is noisy as heck compared to this.
I highly recommend this pedal. You'll get the late 1970s Jerry Garcia sound without even fine tuning the knobs. It does a lot more than just that too.

This is actually the 2nd time I've owned this pedal. The first time, I was not supplying enough power to make this pedal do what it does. I was playing a Strat at low volume, and seeing as auto wahs are voltage driven, I just couldn't get the filter to sweep. I am now playing a humbucker-equipped guitar and have the power to get the filter to sweep. Just something to keep in mind.
Once I figured that out, it's easy to tweak. Threshold sets the frequency that's affected, and Sensitivity sets the level of the effect. I usually have both knobs at around 4 o'clock.

I use this with my Epiphone Dot along with a Budda Bud-Wah and an EH Small Stone into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. There is a noticeable increase in volume when you step on this thing. A pain for others, but it makes for a nice boost when you step on it for solos.
This thing is definitely funky, but it lacks in warmth and richness. Guyatone has a product line with a tube built into the pedals, and they make an auto wah - I'd be curious to try that out. This has almost a percussive sound to it, and really compresses single notes to the point that it's hard to hear the tone of each note. On the plus side, it has a very organic sound, not artificial or processed or digital at all.
I would also recommend the Maxon auto wah as an alternative - that's a much richer, deeper auto wah sound.

I got it used - traded it straight up for a Guyatone compressor I had. Seems sturdy. All the little micro pedals seem sturdy.

Overall, it's a good way to add some color to your tone and get funky. Obviously much different from a wah pedal, different sound, different uses, but great for what it is.

After spending about 30 minutes with this pedal, I have figured out how the settings relate to one another. This came with a small 2" X 3" manual that covers the entire micro effects series.

I'm using this with a Les Paul Special with P-90s, a variety of distortion units, and a Sunn Stinger amplifier.
This pedal is very quiet. This box sounds AMAZING. I love it! It's funkier than you are.

Seems solidly built, though I don't trust the plastic ring that holds the bottom plate on to last more than a few years. The ring was cracked a bit when I recieved the pedal.

I play psychedelic rock and indie rock. I see this pedal fitting in to my arsenal very well. I like it's small size, as it fits very nicely on my smallish pedalboard. Before buying this, I tested a Boss T-Wah that didn't seem to do anything at all.
I love girls.

The pedal is quiet and DOES NOT DRAIN THE SIGNAL. Whomever wrote that in their review should learn how to change a battery!
I've had this pedal for 2 weeks and it's already a staple in my tone and playing. I'm using it with a '71 Fender Super. It took 10 minutes to adjust the pedal and EQ settings to get the kickin' funk sound I was looking for.

I came here to get reviews of this pedal after I saw one in a music store. My conclusion, after reading all of the reviews, was to go and play the thing through my AMP. I would suggest everyone do that before buying any pedal. I thik there are people here that are just bashing Guyatone or expected something totally different from the pedal. If you set the controls coreectly, you get a great funk sound out of the mids (pick agressively) and a cool "different" sounding auto-wah on the highs and lows. If want Garcia auto-wah, this is probably not the pedal. If you want Funk (Clavi) sound from the 70's, as well as, a very unique sound - This pedal is it.

This was pretty easy to figure out...except I'm using it for a drum machine. The manual was helpful sorta', but I had to figure it out on my own. The two knobs produce a wide variety of sounds so it was a little daunting at first, but after I WORKED at it for awhile, it became more predictable.

I'm playing various Roland drum machines (707, 909, etc) thru this pedal and I am able to get a variety of great sounds out of it with any "drum" or "cymbal" sounds. I tried the EH "Q-tron" which had more "flexibility" but it sounded cold and had no punch. The WR2 has alot of punuch and presence helping the drums cut through. It has become an major part of my sound (along with a MXR100, an Ibanez SF10, a Boss ODB-3, and an Echoplex via mackie mixer into Sunn 2000S).

I've gigged this pedal very hard and have never had a problem. Granted I tend to slap it on and off with my hand rather that my foot, but I tweak the knobs far more than I would believe is normal. I've never felt I needed a back up.

I play in an electronica group (as if you hadn't guessed). We are sorta like a heavy metal Autechre that does some improv. The WR2 adds alot of flash and dynamics to my sound and definately livens up my interaction with the other players. I don't play guitar, but those who pan this pedal must be into animal porn. It's so cheap, is versatile and has its own sound. I wish it had a effect/dry blend know (bass players probably do too), but other wise it rocks!

I can see where a player who has poor control of playing dynamics might have trouble getting in a good sound with this unit, as a lot of the cool sounds that can be generated with this pedal rely on playing technique and how hard you pick. Also, there is a degree of low-end cut (as when you use a wah pedal) that some may find intolerable, but it's fairly easy to compensate for by lowering the threshold control (lower threshold = filter doesn't sweep as high = more low end). Overall I gave it an 8 as I feel it takes an intermediate to advanced player to "plug & play" the WR-2 and achieve good sounds.

I use a Schecter Tempest w/a Marshall JCM2000 & several 4x12 cabs. I have a variety of pedals in my rack (which was built by Rack Systems in LA), including the WR-2, MXR Phase 90, Crowther Hotcake, TC B/LD/D, Flip VT-X Trem, Dunlop Dime Wah, Original Expandora, Maxon CS-9 Pro & Digitech Whammy. All of these are footswitchable & presetable using a Rocktron All Access board. I'm a major label touring guitarist and this rig goes everywhere. I'm not sure if the WR-2 would qualify for "pristine sound quality" so I gave it a 9. However, I will say that it's the most unique sounding filter I've heard, and I tried many before deciding on it. It's all over my albums and I consider it part of my signature sound.

Again, I'm a touring guitarist and this pedal gets constant use. However, it is racked up and does not see the kind of abuse it might if it was in a pedalboard and constantly getting stomped on and soaked in beer and sweat. So, it gets a 9 leaving a 10% margin for error.

Again, I'm a touring guitarist playing modern, heavy rock. I've been playing well over 10 years and have owned/tried/been given tons of gear, and the WR-2 made the grade. If lost/stolen I'd definitely get another, as it's now an integral part of my sound - I love it's unique tone, there's nothing else quite like it out there. Definitely helps to set me apart from the other players out there, and that says a lot...

I found this unit very easy to use...it took a minute, but I soon discovered that by using the decay knob I could "tune" the envelope. The manual was helpful, but honestly with only two knobs just fooling with it produced the best the fastest results.

I play in a jam band (Reilly's Rompers) with an early 80's Strat going into the WR2 to a Boss BD2 to a MXR Phase100 into a blackface Fender Pro Reverb. For autowah leads this pedal really kicks. I don't know if it sounds as good as a vintage Mutron...I can't afford one. I do know that it beats the Boss and DOD hands down. It has a very unique and "thick" tone that really cuts through at gigs. I could set it so it sounds too thin, but it's very easy to find the sweet spot for my rig. I tried it placed after the BD2 but I lost the ability to take advantage of the WR2's sensitivity to my playing dynamics. If I back off on my picking I get less or no wah, if I dig in the notes pop out. Very cool. Also on some blues tunes I set the threshlod all the way up and the decay all the way down and I get a very compressed vowelly sound, kinda like Duane Allman.

Hey, I can't understand how there can be such negative response to this pedal...I love it. The WR2 might not be as great as the Mutron, but it sure as hell doesn't cost as much. It way out performs against the Boss and DOD (too sterile) or the EH Dr. Q (piece of crap). Most importantly it has its own unique sound. At gigs it gets a big response. I see there is a WR3 now...I'm not sure how it could be better.

If you are trying to make the sound of the worst autowah/envelope filter, then it is very easy to use. If you try to get a good sound, then you are going to work it, readjust your tone controls, EQ, and slowly move the dials.

If you are going for that shit sound it's right on. It is absolutly the worst sounding autowah ever. I got it for bass and it sucked, to much high frequency not being cutoff. Fudging around with my tone controls allowed some sort of a decent sound, but who has 10 min. to reset your sound to play 2 min. of this effect during a gig? Wait I said decent sound?
So after the bass I thought maybe it would sound good thru my guitar. I never even heard of such a sound, and the public should NEVER have to hear it. Crap.

For greasy funk vamps ala' Stevie Salas or John Frusciante, this thing can't be beat. I use it w/a Fender Riessue Strat, Maxon OD808 Overdrive, and an old Ibanez AD-9 Delay into a Dr. Z amp. Again, if skanky funk sounds are what you're after, this little guy is definitely it.

I've been using this pedal for about a year w/no problems. I gig about 4-5 times a month, so it gets a workout. I've heard complaints about the rubber ring that holds the backplate breaking, but I power w/external adaptor so I don't open it up much. However, I could see this being a problem so I'll knock a point off.

It is impossible to get a good sound out of this pedal. Yes, it's got two knobs, so in that sense it should be easy to use, but it's not. Knobs would imply you can dial in a sound you like, but you can't with this unit -- at least I couldn't.
Manual was the one Guyatone puts in all their micro series effects.

Unfortunately, this was (notice "was") the most dissapointing pedal I have ever owned. I used it once for playing live in the 9 months or so that I had it. Here's why:
1) Trying to set it low to get a mu-tron sound makes a horrible popping sound. Like the effect was really severe and had some type of weird triggering. I was acutally worried about damaging the amps I tried it through.
2) Try to set it a little lower to avoid that and it either doesn't trigger or when it does, it sounds like mud and it still gets that "popping" sound.
3) Had trouble getting the effect to trigger with threshold level set anywhere below 1 o'clock. Upper register had issues with triggering, too.
4) Set the threshold past 1 o'clock because you've had enough of trying to figure out how to set it lower and you still get the popping sound, but now it sounds thin and horrible too.
I tried it in every sopt in my effects chain, with different amps and different guitars. It was impossible to get a good sound out of it.

This is not a poor man's mu-tron. This isn't anything even 1/4 of the way there. It's not even a good effect in it's own right. If it a unique sound in it's own right that was cool, I would have been happy, but it was just impossible to get a pleasing sound out of it.
I bought it online after listening to sound samples and thought it sounded half way decent. Big disapointment. Sold it for $35. Looking to replace it with a Q-tron or something like that in a while.
Save your money.
