Easy to get good sounds...not really a bad sound in the box. The Voice knob is a nice feature and really adds lots of character to the tone.

Great little pedal! Running mine thru a Fender Twin and an Ibanez w/Seth Lovers. Very flexible gain structure - can go from light to pretty heavy does it all extremely well. Cleans up great with volume knob and high quality sound. Played lots of other pedals (Fulltone, Tim, Timmy, Menatone...) and this is in the top five I've played.

So far...so good - no problems. Seems well built and would totally trust it without a backup.

Responded to email in a reasonable amount of time. Don't know about service or repairs yet.

This pedal is a keeper! Had lots of pedals come and go, but this one will be on my pedalboard for a while. Doesn't mess with your tone and can add just the right amount of spice. Highly recommend!

Very simple pedal. Mine is the 3knob version circa 2003.

Good sounding overdrive. Does boost and low gain all the way to high gain really well. I think I prefer the assymetrical clipping of the fulldrive overall, but this one is very good also.
I use it for blues and classic rock into a 50 watt plaexi clone or a dr. z Z28.

Not so good. I have used it on the road for 2 years, it developed a loud pop and a bad/noisy pot pretty quickly. I had one of the local pedal gurus clean it up and redo ALL the wiring and tin the traces (wasn't done on the older models, not sure about the new ones) and its been 100% reliable since. Still, the quality of the wiring and the internal componants wasn't nearly as good as my FD2. Should be better at this price range.

Poor. I had to fix it myself, Hermida didn't respond to my emails.

A good pedal, but the build quality and service leave a lot to be desired.

Newer four knob version. These four knobs makes this THE most incredibly versatile single unit OD pedal I've ever heard or played, and I've been pickin' for 43 years.

Dr Z Maz 38 Sr 2X12, Carr Rambler mostly. Teles and Strats. I've got lots of pedals that I try to use sparingly because I love my straight guitar/amp sound best, but the Mosferatu works well with all my other pedals. I really don't know where to start with describing the incredible spectrum of this pedal. Slight transparent crunch, sweet warm medium gain overdrive, screaming edgy Marshally plexi leads: this baby's got it all with a few twists of the knobs! The Voice control is the key to it all.

I'm looking to buy another just in case some sesperate pedal maniac breaks into my house and only steals this little guy but leaves all my other baggage. Seriously, I doubt this this will ever give me a problem.

I was on that long waiting list for a Zendrive when Alf Hermida got wiped out by the hurricaine. When I finally got it there was a problem with the 9V adaptor jack. I emailed Alf, and he immediately apoligized and sent me a new one, no questions asked. From what I heard, he was so backordered he was working constantly to get these things built. Nuff ced - quite a guy!

I own and have owned too many overdrive/distortion pedals to remember. If I was stranded on an island (with electricity) and could only have one pedal, this would be the one. Incredible value at any price. Thanks, Alf!

I can't believe no one has put up a review of this pedal. Geesh, I havn't put up a review since about '96 when I put one up about the FD2. But I thought I would be the first to say something about this really cool pedal. Everyone clamours about the Zen Drive...which is cool in it's own right.
It has more gain than you'll EVER need, and by gain I mean distortion. If you need more get yourself a Mesa Boogie Triple Recti-fryer and call it a day. It has four controls, Volume-Gain-Tone-Voice. I think three out of four are pretty self explanitory. The voice controls the midrange and the "voice" of the gain. The higher you turn the voice the more gain you get along with more midgrange-treble-presence. And just the opposite counter clockwise. I know Alf previously made the Mosferatu only three knobs, but some have said without the voice control like on the newer versions, it's like having the voice all the way up.

I think the sound files from his site speak for themselves. They are very accurate. Check 'em out.
Many folks wonder what the difference between the Zen Drive and the Mos are. I had the Zen Drive, and own the Mos. The mos has three times the gain, and a lot more treble (IMHO) and grind on tap. Not as smooth. If I could only grab one box to a gig, and not knowing how high I can crank my amp...the Mos would be the one.

This is one pedal that can cover many spectrums of music. Blues, Rock, Country, Jazz, etc. It's just very versital. Even shredders would like this one.
