Is it just me, or has anyone noticed how much is rolled off of the high end. I know this is common for analog effects, but used in mono, it took off to much high hz information. In stereo, it sounded fine.
Overall a great little pedal. Was used with a 68 strat, SF Super Reverb, and a BF Deluxe Reverb (w/6l6s). Pretty straight forward.

It's an analog delay. With only three knobs (length of delay, repeats and level) it's not too difficult to get a good sound.

I use this with a variety of single-coil guitars (Fenders, Hamer, Dano and a PRS) and with a reissue Bassman, Top Hat Club Royale and a Deluxe Reverb. It's not noisy at all, even with the level knob turned up. The effect is lush and full, although as with any analog delay, you're not going to get super-long repeats.

It's very solid and has been around the block many times, for years (I got it used). It does eat batteries, but not as much as the Danelectro delay I used to have.

I play mostly blues, but I also like to branch out into other areas. I've played for six years. I've found this pedal good for giving some wetness and fullness for the Bassman and Club Royale, which can be a little dry, especially at low volume. I replaced a Danelectro Dan-Echo with this. The Danelectro is a good idea, not well-executed. It has a horrible high-pitched ringing all the time. The Ibanez isn't as a flexible, but it's more organic sounding and much, much quieter.

Am pushing my Tele (or Strat) via the AD-9, thru a Klon Centaur, then into my early 70's (non-master volume) Twin Reverb... also just picked up a Dr. Z Route 66 amp. I mention that because it has no reverb and I'm using the AD-9 to get a subtle delay. Sweet, sweet, sweet. My style is A Bros, Gov't Mule, Zep, etc.

Have been trying to quit the guitar thing for nearly 24 years... just can't do it. I'd buy this unit again should it disappear. I'm not a big stomp box player but have been toying with the idea of a quality, tough delay for quite a few years and decided the time was right... good marriage with the Dr. Z. I paid a lot for it but made the choice and I am still convinced that I got a good deal. Great sound. Tough. Rather ugly but just what the doctor ordered.

Very easy to use.LEVEL,REPEAT,TIME CONTROLS.I set the time control all the way up,repeat at 2 o'clock and level at 3 o'clock. These settings produce a nice tripy space echo sound.Used in shorter slap back delay mode it produces a fantastic rocabilly sound.

This is the best dealy pedal ever built!I used a danelectro dan echo for some time but I have gone back using this small IBANEZ because it simply sounds much better. The only echoes that sound better are vintage echoplexes, old rockman echoes and roland space tape echoes but the cost a fortune!!

This is the best sounding delay pedal I've ever owned. Better than the Boss DM-2 by far. Much warmer and fatter sounding and easier to use. The Boss was really hard to dial in for a decent sound This pedal is a cinch. I've also owned a Boss DD-3, which couldn't compare to either of the other two. Digital delays suck the tone right out of your sound.

I am using a Fender Strat. I play through an ADA preamp 1 (from the early 80's). I also use a EQ and I have a collection of "old school" pedals. This is a great pedal; it is not noisy at all. This analog delay pedal does not have long delay! It is for short "slapp back" Echos(like some guitar player from the 50's would use),but I still love it. It has a great thick echo; sometimes it can sound almost like reverb. I like to use it with a lot of compression; this makes the delay sound even fuller.

use LP goldtop with P90s so mine sound is always a bit "noisy". This pedal doesn't seem to contribute to it any though. Delay is very smooth and warm, I went from a Boss-RV3 (Digital delay and reverb) to using a Fender ProReverb (theres the reverb) and added this pedal for the delay. What a difference! I will NEVER use digital delays again. And true spring reverb isd no comparison to that pedal either. Big Difference! Not looking really for the U2 delay sound. Something more subtle to fatten up the tone. The best thing about this pedal is that they have a seperate outpu for the delayed signal if you choose to use it! What I did was run that signal through an old ibanez phase tone to fatten up the delay even more and then run the orig sig. and the delayed through one of those 4x1 passive mixers ( about the size of a stomp box) It is subtle and you can't hear the effect but it is much warmer and fatter. This pedal is awesome and has contributed to my tone in ways I can't explain!

The sound of this one is awesome, it sounds warm. If you listen close you can hear a little hiss, which is added to the repeated delays, just like a tape delay. The AD9 is very musically sounding, it's not cold or sterile, but warm and dirty.
If digital delays wold be represented by the color blue, this one would be red.
My amp's a Hughes&Ketnner Attax 80 and my guitar's a Yamaha Pacifica 621 (H/S/H).

I can rely on it. This is just as sturdy as a Boss pedal, and it still works fine, although it's probably at least 14 years old (the AD9 production was stopped in 1985).
This is one of the most solid pedals I've ever seen coming from Ibanez (like the whole -9 series). Even the footswitch is metal. I took it apart and it looks really reliable on the inside as well. You could easily exchange the footswitch if it ever broke.

This pedal was a f**king bargain ! I'm happy I own this thing now,it's really great.
My only criticism is the short delay time (not really that short if you consider the time it was produced and that it's analog). But when I imagine this pedal had like 1000ms delay time. Damn, it would be hell !
Let's see :
- 1 (for the short delay time)
+ 1 (for the cool pink painting)
Greets to Mark Simpson for all the Ibanez vintage pedal info !

Extremely simple -- 3 knobs: Delay Time, Feedback, Effect Level. I bought this used at Music Go Round. Strange place: They'll mark a beat-to-hell Roland BC-30 at $300 and then mark this AD-9 in almost perfect condition at $40. Apparently they do not research very well.

Though this analog delay has a max of about 200ms, there are things it can do that a modern digital delay cannot. Works very well as an echo and is capable of a great amount of feedback. Clean and quiet.

I've never had a stomp box of any brand fail on me (probably because I take care of my equipment), but the Ibanez 9 series seem to be built like tanks. I've owned other 9 series pedals and they all worked just fine.

I've never had to deal with Ibanez, but I hear that they are a bit of a pain in the ass. What I have heard is, say you break your guitar's neck and want to buy a new one -- first, you'll need to send them your old one (which will not be returned to you) and then wait for them to ship out a new one at a rediculous price. Apparently, Ibanez doesn't want their necks on other guitars. Sounds a bit ridiculous to me.

Overall, you can't go wrong with the 9 series Ibanez effects pedals. If you find one for a reasonable price, buy it. Even if you hate the sound of it, there is a demand for these on eBay. I just saw an AD-9 sell for more than $150 on eBay. I'll probably keep my AD-9, but if someone offers me $150 for it, I'd probably sell.

This analog delay has three knobs - one for delay time, one for number of repeats (feedback), and one for depth (wet/dry mix). Don't need a manual.

I either use about 75 ms of delay or about 200ms (max for this box). The pedal is dead quiet, to my ancient ears. The effect itself works best somewhat to the wet side, and at a fairly high repeat rate, too. It is not as intense an affect as , say, a DM-2, which will eventually feed itself back into that whoo-whoo spaceship sound like a Memory Man. However, both the BOSS and EH pedals sound crisp and metallic compared to the AD9. Its effect is much less defined, "softer" for lack of a better term. The AD9's effect is more analog sounding than any other analog delay I have heard - more natural, more realistic decay. Just "softer". I personally love it.

My pedal is older and has several scratches and dents. I am currently using it without a backuo, but I'm not really comfortable doing so. This pedal just isn't as substantial as, say, a BOSS pedal.

I use this pedal playing classic rock. It seems that if you want to replicate the sounds of 70's hits, you have to use the same effects that the original artists did. Of course, the AD9 is newer than 70's, but it really has that analog sound. I also own DM2's, DM3's, a Memory man, and BOSS digital delays. Tha AD9 has the best tone. If only it had three times the delay time! I've heard good things about the Ibanez Echo Machine, which is digital, but sounds analog, and has 600 ms of delay. But I've played the new AD99 next to my AD9, and it doesn't compare, so I'm a little skeptical.

This is an analog delay, but is suprisingly quiet. The delay is short even at the highest setting compared to new delays. The cool thing about it is that the delay isn't as bright as the original signal, so it makes your guitar sound warmer, somehow not as brittle. I never want to play through a digital delay again.

I love the warmth of this pedal, and would buy it over and over and over. I think that they are usually pretty expensive, and I just got lucky. I have no problems with it, nothing that I hate, although if you are looking for something with a lot of delay time, this isn't it. I think it is comparable (but imho much better sounding) than the Boss analog delays of the same era.
