It isn't hard to get a good sound out of this pedal, not a lot different than any other analog delay it has the three basic controls you'd expect d. time, d. level and repeat (called feedback on other pedals) it also has dry and effect out. I picked this pedal up at a fleamarket for $40. If analog delay is your thing I'd recommend this

I play an Epiphone SG out of a crappy peavey amp I got at a pawn shop but this delay doesn't need a good amp to sound good. The pedal isn't noisy and I can easily get a 'since I've been loving you' delay out of it. It sounds great with my Voodoolab Superfuzz and DOD Vibrothang. It is also great for sitar like delay sounds.

I play a lot of exparimental and late 60s psychadellic this works great for that since it is analog. I have been playing for about three years, I am currently using it with a boss BD-2 Blues Driver, Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah, Voodoolab Superfuzz & DOD Vibrothang, I play an Epiphone SG out of a crappy peavey amp I got at a pawn shop. I more bought this because it was an inexpensive analog delay, it's sound could easily be replicated by other analog delays. If I lost this pedal I'd probably replace it with some other analog delay.

This is a great delay but....It doesn't give you sound on sound because it only has 300 milliseconds of delay. It doesn't color your sound despite it not being true bypass. I can't get mine to self oscilate even when I have the delay time down and the repeat level up. If anyone knows how to mod this pedal so it has more repeats I would like to hear from you. I have heard really bad things about the switches in these units, but mine seems really sturdy. Of course I treat mind like an effects pedal and not like a "stomp box"

For what it is it's great. It's every bit as good as a DM2 just with a much lower grade switch. If it were stolen I would probably replace it with a delux memory man even if it costs twice as much. Still a great pedal for the price

Very ease to use. The knobs do what they say. I think Ibanez may have a manual available for download.

This thing is gorgeous. I can't really compare it to anything else because I haven't played through anything else that sounded better. I had (and sold) a Line 6 delay modeler and I'm much more happy with this pedal. The self-oscillation when cranking the repeats is killer. Excellent for spacerock with everything cranked. Delay time could be a little longer but it's cool. Not true bypass but I don't hear any tone loss.

This series of Ibanez pedals is known for having switch problems. I haven't encountered any problems so I'm hoping things stay that way.

Ibanez isn't exactly easy to get ahold of. Since this pedal has been discontinued for years I don't imagine they'd be much help.

I play a combination of noiserock and bripop. I've been playing for almost eight years. I'd definitely get it again if I lost it and another one came along. It's very under the radar and that's cool. I wish the delay time was a bit longer. I got this pedal for free so I'm not going to complain. Much love to the FX forum.

Easy as pie. Sounds great no matter where the knobs are(unless you put repeat on 10 and delay real short for a ring modulator type metallic chime that I happen to like).

Im playing a Fender Am Std Tele>>>Boss DS-1>>>DOD 575b Flanger>>>Ibanez Metal Charger MS-10 w/4 harmonic clipping diodes removed>>>Ibanez ADL wet out>>>Fender Super Reverb 4x10...ADL dry out>>>DOD 680>>>Fender Bassman 4x10. Sounds PERFECT for a warm analog delay in this price range. Creates no unwanted noise or lose of tone. Very good balance of high end clarity that many pedals lack, (such as a boss dm-2). There is an internal trim pot in the battery compartment which, I believe, adjusts the gain going to the delay chip. Switch is silent, going into two amps makes the levels alter on my amps, but this is expected out of ANY 9 volt stompbox in such an elaborate set-up. The effect is not brutally strong in terms of mix and infinite repeat (maybe 6 repeats max) so you really can't do spaceship sounds (Get a DOD 680 for that). 300ms of max delay time is also nothing special, so don't plan on playing "where the streets have no name" (Get an Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man for that)

I've never had a problem. Stomp on it, it turns on. Stomp again, turns off. Plastic footswitch, but I always asumed it was painted steel, so, not bad.

Im 26 years old, I have been playing guitar my whole life. This pedal is part of the Ibanez Master Series, built from 1984-1985 before the similar looking "10" series. It works great for splitting my signal into two amps. Awesome professional-level delay sounds. I have a DOD 680 for intense lunar-lander delays, this is for the subtle ones. If lost or stolen, I would probably replace it with the same since the old boss pedals are over $100 on Ebay. This one is just as good if not better for much less.

Nice pedal, probably not as great as some other older analog delay pedals (ie. MXR "big box" or some E.H.) but very underrated for tone and usefulness in my opinion. A more affordable alternative if you cannot find, or afford, an AD-80 or AD-9. My unit was compared (A/B'd) next to a Maxon AD-80 reissue and actually sounded better--and was quieter! (Pedal components/construction, in general, can greatly vary, so I may have gotten lucky and have an exceptionally clean sounding unit. I have used the Ibanez AD-9 in the past, and the ADL is really has a great delay quality--almost identical--with the exception of a (very) SLIGHTLY 'brighter' sound quality than the AD-9. Pretty good character to the tone, better than the DELAY CHAMP, and worth every penny if you can snag one for, say, $75.00 (U.S.) or LESS. Tested with a Fender Japan 'Standard' Strat (Jeff Beck humbucker in bridge) and a G&L ASAT Tele, also sounds good with Gibson/humbucker types. Amps used were Blackface Fender Super Reverb, Pro Reverb, and Marshall 900 combo (and Lead 12 practice amp). You can probably find these much easier than the AD-9 or AD-80 (and MUCH CHEAPER!).

Typical of "9" series era ("L", or Performance series, succeeded the "9"s)--this one has the intermittantly operating ("sticky") footswitch, which is apparantly a common problem on early-mid '80's IBANEZ stompboxes. Otherwise clean and quiet, with a very much above average TONE.

I typically play blues/variety rock. I have been playing for 18 years--8 of them pro/semi-pro. I would replace this pedal if I could find one on EBAY or a pawn shop for under $75 to $80. It has a great sounding delay ("definition") on the repeats. Not as "muddy" sounding as some of the older classics, but to my ears not as CLINICAL sounding as most digital delays either. Kind of in the middle tonally, and for me, this is perfect. I am partial to the "big 'ole" MXR delay unit, and will probably replace this pedal with one of those when I find a good deal on one (and SPACE on my BOARD!). Otherwise, the Ibanez ADL is currently one of the best deals to find on a very good quality SMALLER analog delay stompbox.

Using it with a Fender Jaguar and Jazzmaster, outboard fender Reverb tank, and a 1962 brownface Super.
The ADL isn't much noisier than other analog delays.
The delay tone is pretty decent, not as sterile as a digital delay.
No true bypass, but no immense tone-sucking, either.

I needed a cheap analog delay to use on stage because I don't like dragging my cumbersome and somewhat temperamental Tel Ray Add'n'Echo around with me. (See my Tel Ray review)
This thing doesn't even come close to the Tel Ray's insane pitch-bending vibrato & echo delerium, but it's reliable and versatile. I never intended to compare it to the Tel Ray.
This pedal is a good workhorse delay for slapback purposes. It suits me fine, and even though I won't be using it to record (the Tel Ray is the studio champ) it'll be doing stage duty with my "Ventures-on-Crack" instrumental rock'n'roll band The Treblemakers (www.treblemakers.8m.com).

Three knobs - delay time, repeat, and delay output (level). No manual but this one is easy. No upgrades to this, it already has the JRC4558 chip in it. One of the internal trim pots is even accessible through the battery cover.

The ADL is being used in the effects loop of my `82 Fender Concert; guitar is a modded Strat. This is my first pedal from the "L" or Performance series and I'm impressed. The ADL sounds as good as it's predecessor (Ibanez AD-9) only the tone is slightly different. I dont know the specs but I think that maximum delay time is around 300 ms. The ADL is great for short delays, period. It does a great slapback echo and you can even coax nice fake reverbs out of it.

All metal construction except for the knobs, pots, jacks and rubber pad on the footswitch. This pedal is about 10 years old and the switch has already had some problems but it still works fine. It also looks like the battery jack had been replaced at some point too. Footswitches were a common problem on the 9-series, the Performance series has a different design. I have heard of problems with these switches but don't know the details at this point.

I have the AD-9 Analog Delay which was the predecessor to the ADL; they're very similar but not exactly the same. The ADL has a slightly brighter sound than the AD-9 but is still able to achieve about 90% of the sounds from the AD-9. I've seen these being sold in the same price range as the AD-9 but it's not the same pedal. That aside, it's a great old school delay.
