Not an intuitive pedal, but it didn't take long to figure it out,and I'm pretty lazy so thats good.

Sound Quality : 8
Overall,a good sounding pedal with lots of personality.Alittle drop in signal and abundant on the high end spike at the end of the sweep.I put a compressor behind it and this works well to fix these problems,or I just roll back my tone pot on my guitar, use neck pickup.Reacts well to my right hand, and this I really like.Lots of fun!!

So far so good.Have used it lots,no trouble.Every pedal is different,so this is subjective

Makes me want to play funky (as I can)and has kept me playing when I should be doing other stuff. That's a meaningful statement as far as I'm concerned. No remorse here.

This pedals requires lots of tweaking to get the desired sound...BUT THAT'S WHAT i LIKE ABOUT IT!!

Sound Quality : 9
Back in the day,my other guitar player had an AF-201.But when I got around to buying one,THEY WERE DISCONTINUED!So,I bought an AF-9.However,I recently stumbled over a 201 and A/Bed the two.Much to my surprise, the 201 KICKED THE AF-9'S ASS!I mean just Kung-Fued it!Call me crazy, but the 201 was wilder, had more punch and weirder sounding.I was able to get a SLOW ATTACK sound with lots of sustain. And in auto-filter mode it was JUICEY,junior,REAL JUICEY!But later,in the 10th round,I found the AF-9 to be TIGHTER sounding, more professional.A good fight anyway. The AF-201 will boogie-woogie on your brain!!

Reliability : No Opinion
I don't take it out much,I'll use the "9" or a T-wah.But I plan to buy a Maxon reissue(heh,heh).

All the modes I useful to me,since I'm still KNEE DEEP in the funk!Like it's baby brother the 201 can be used on keyboards, bass and guitar.Just be careful,it's loaded with "SPANKABILITY"!Bootsy and Larry Grahmn sounds can be duplicated with the 201 and beyond!Simply put...it's a BADASS pedal!

It's not easy to get just the right sound with this one. Easier than a Mutron III that I tried out, but this one requires a lot of tweaking to get the most out of it. Each guitar will require retweaking unless you have the same brand and type pickups in each guitar.

Sound Quality : 10
I have tried many setups with this one. IMHO the best sound comes when you use HO humbuckers into a Solid State amp instead of tube through a clean channel. I have a Fender Deluxe 85 that I go through with this pedal.
As far as settings go, you really have to figure out what sounds best with your equipment. There are many rewards in rich sounds if you just spend some time with it. It can really get totally different sounds that I just can't really explain. A good place to go to get an idea is tonefrenzy.com and check out the mp3. Once I got one, however, I realized that that mp3 doesn't do justice to how cool this pedal really is. If you put a delay behind it....oh man...watch out!
It's my fovorite pedal at this point (and I have quite a few)

I have no idea. It seems to suck down a 9 volt in nothing flat, so get a good power adapter. A starting-to-go dead 9 volt will make this one sound awefull so beware.

Have no idea.

The sounds are wild, I've spent hours on end just jamming through it. It's addictive. If you can get your hands on one and you love the wah-wah, then you'll just freak.

This a pedal you have to get to know. It is like a wah-wah but rather than using a pedal to control the voltage, it uses the strength of your guitar signal. In other words the harder you play the higher the wah (or filter sweep). When you get a feel for it you can some great sounds. Very, very funky.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a '73 Les Paul Custom through an old Sound City 50 Plus half- stack(British amp made from 68-73, a forerunner to Hiwatt but not as nice or expensive - I like it a lot, however). My guitar has a fairly hot signal so have I no problem with the AF201 muting my sound. Sometimes it can be too honky or trebly or loud, but again, because it is controlled by the dynamics of your playing you can adjust for that by just listening and reacting.

Reliability : 10
I've had this pedal for 20 years and never a problem. I have gigged with it many times. It also sat unused for several years and didn't suffer either. If it did fail (god forbid) a wah-wah could cover though I would have a seriously tired leg and not nearly as cool a sound.

I love it. One of my favorite features is that you can reverse the sweep of the filter. Normally it starts low, sweeps high then decays back down (for an example listen to the guitar solo on the Who's "Going Mobile"). When the filter starts high, sweeps low, then decays back up to treble, it makes a very weird sound for a guitar. Quite synthy. This pedal tends to attract interest and compliments. I originally bought it because it was there and cheap. I was bad guitarist who was certain that effects would give me that professional sound. Now that I've actually learned how to play and have dispensed with a lot of junk (and play clean or naturally distorted most of the time) this pedal has stayed with me. It has a very specialized sound and I often use it only once a night but since nothing else sounds like it I would definitely replace it with the same. For me and the price I paid it was a fantastic value. At 200 bucks I might rate a 7 or an 8

This one may take some monkeying around to find where you want to be. It has 2 sliders for Sensitivity, and Peak, and 3 FET switches for selecting modes, and high pass/low pass, etc. It helps to know a little about filters before you dive in (which there are some great articles on the net.)

Sound Quality : 8
Well, a good place to start is to check out Tonefrenzy's website for a look at the pedal, and some sound clips.
It took me a while to kick out some good sounds out of this guy. When you find them, you'll recognize them. It is a very synthy, funky, instantly recognizable sound. Parliment/Funkadelic has this sound exactly, all over their tunes. I sounds dead on to this pedal, but having never used a Mutron, it could be one of those. One of my main problems was getting enough signal to the pedal for it to do it's magic. Right about when I was going to give up, I placed an old Ross compressor in front of this guy and bingo! Fun, fun, fun. However, on bass I am a bit disappointed with this guy. It kills a lot of the signal. Don't get me wrong, it still has a great sound.
One other thing to note is it jumps your signal up a bit in volume when you kick it on with some settings. Other settings totally strangle your signal to nothing. Start with everything in the up position, and work from there. The great tones are in it, you just have to find them. Do you remember that James Bond movie 'Moonraker?' When they have the battle outside the space station and the guys floating around are firing lasers at each other? That sound is in here. (How's that for an odd reference? ha!) (One last thing to note is I have never managed a good sound with it in conjunction with an overdrive. It just wants a hot unaffected signal in front of it, and will muddy the heck out of any drive.)

Reliability : 9
I lucked out with this one, as it looks and for all intents and purposes is, brand new. (It is from the era of the TS-808, same casing, and stomp switch.) The FET selector switches look a bit suspect, as do the sliders, but this one is solid. I would imagine on an older one, the Sensitivity sliders, and peak sliders crackle.

Well, I always wanted one, and was lucky to find one in this condition. Two hundred is a whole head of cabbage for a pedal that has very limited uses, but I have seen them for much more. Just as a note, I have an AF-9, and a Boss FT-2 Dynamic Filter, which are completely different pedals. They are more of an auto-wah 'quacking' sort of effect where the 201 is really more synthy sound. (However, I don't know them all, for instance I have never tried the MXR, EH's, or the Mutrons.) It's a very collectable pedal which you may have some difficulty finding, but check one out if you get the chance. For reference, it's kind of a Spalding basketball, with a darker orange color and black writing.

Don`t expect to much support for a old ibanez pedal.........

One of my precious jewels for my personnel sound and if I ever see one for sale for cheap I woulkd buy a spare one. Yes I like it that much like I said it`s very special. I`m not the kind of person who`s gonna look for a good sound in a pedal it`s got to sound good overall and this ome does.

This effect is a little tricky to get a good sound out of(but its in there). It has two sliders one for sensitivity and one for peak effect, it also has three FET swithes for various treble and bass settings.

Sound Quality : 10
I ran it through a classic 30 peavy, behind a ts-808 with an 86' 62' sunburst reissue strat. The tone is very fluid and singing(after a little tweaking). The longer you hold the note the more trebley it becomes, like pushing forward on a wah. Theres also a tube like tunnel effect on the low end strings. The tone is very usable especially on leads(low noise high quality sound).

Reliability : 10
These early eighties late seventies ibanez stomp boxes are some of the best effects ever very reliable.

This pedal is very cool and equally hard to find. The people just didnt know what they had thats why I got it so cheap. Its a dark orange color if you find one under $200 I recommend picking it up.If you play blues or rock, its a great auto wah effect.
