Two knob...Come ON!!!!???

Well.......as far as athe chorus effect its very liquidy and warm.I only use chorus on clean arpegiated chords so my sound review is based soley on that.If your looking for weird warbles and wavy chorus things I can't help ya.Anyways this things does very warm and liquidy sounding chorus very professional sounding chorus pedal. The Con: Is this pedal will have a "sweew sweew" noise upon any signal applied to it/Making it useless in a studio and hard to live with live........ALLONE in the chain......I say allone cause I've found running this two pedals befor the amp, kills the swishy noise. My chain goes Guitar->Vox wah->CSL CHORUS->Delay->Boss DS-1->Amp.I haven't recorded this yet but it sounds great live.It seems to kill the swish.Prolly the buffers in the following pedals.A noise gate may help too.

Reliability : 7
Works great so far

Great for live work with other pedals. If its the only pedal in your chain....sadly you'd need one that makes less noise. With other pedals after it to kill the swish its a very nice pedal.

Intuitive two knobs. don't need any manuals.

Sound Quality : 10
Ibanez CSL uses JRC 4580D chips and panasonic MN3207 / MN3102 BBD chips. Apparently Panasonic BBD chips are the best chips for chorus, flanger and analog delay...etc.
I've compared this with CS-9 and I prefer CSL to CS-9.
IMHO it's slightly brighter but at the same time it makes warmer analogue chorus sounds.
Good quility vintage analogue chorus.

made in 1985. Still works without ny problem.

This Ibanez L series were made in between 9 series and 10 series.
It's got good quality sounds from both 9 and 10 series.

Two knobs, Speed and Width. Simple enough.

I just bought one off the bay and wow. Definitely more than what I was expecting. I a/b'ed it with a Small Clone and, though I could hear some difference, my friends heard no difference.

Does the job I got it to do; Gives me a great chorus sound and makes my cleans sound beautiful.

Reliability : 9
Seems to be built as well as the Boss pedals, a solid metal enclosure. This pedal was made in the 80's and in great shape. If you threw it, you'd end up hurting whatever is on the receiving end more than this pedal.

I play a variety of styles and I've been playing for about 14 years. This does what I want it to do, thicken up and make my clean channel sound sweet.

I wish I would have known about this pedal sooner. I compared this to a EHX Small Clone, a Boss CE-2, a Danelectro Cool Cat. This definitely holds it own and has now giving me growing interest in other old Ibanez pedals. A nice pedal built like a tank that's still going after all this time. Thank you Ibanez for this great product.

Simple two knobs, twist and turn them until you find a sound you enjoy. No need for a manual on this one.

Sound Quality : 7
Make sure you try out the pedal in different places in your pedal board, other wise it might sound sad or cheesy. For a chorus it does what it is suppossed to do so you can not complain there, you can get it to sound pretty crazy by turning everything all the way up. I don't really use this too much only to boost really crazy parts in the music or for a noise compositions. Has a decent sound, I could definatly hear an 80's metal band playing a ballad witht this thing.

Reliability : 10
Seems very dependable, I like the footswitch much more than the dod but not quite as nice as the boss footswitch, nevertheless I haven't had any problems with it. And I have gigged with out back up.

Never had to contact them.

Good pedal, but not for the type of music I play really. I've been playing for 3 and a half years, and I also own a boss ds1 and an arion stereo delay, you can get some crazy sounds when you combine all three, but would be sort of hard to do smething "musical" with all three. If it were stolen or lost, i would probaly not buy another chorus pedal at all, I would probaly go for a nice overdrive or something else but not a chorus. The thing i liked the best was when you max out the speed it gived a wobbly effect which sounds wacky.

Very easy, good usable range of adjustment. Won't quite do Nirvana's "Come As You Are" sound (who cares!).

Sound Quality : 8
Very good sound, a bit artificial for acoustic, but not as 'plastic' as a Danelectro Cool Cat. Then again any processing except mild reverb sounds fake with acoustics. Still worthwile for the big ballady stuff. Sound with may Tele-copy is sweet. haven't tried it Stereo, but I'm sure it'll be nice.

Reliability : 8
Seems good. Had troubles with the switch (this is a recording..) but rerouting the battery cable fixed it apparently. Since then, no dramas. Solid case, and jacks are set into metal. Ability to change batteries without unscrewing case is a plus.

Used, obsolete. Forget it.

I wanted a 9 volt chorus to replace my 18v Cool Cat which I got tired of. The Ibanez is a warmer and less processed sound. Standard Boss adaptors fit - I use a PSMS switch. It is not true bypass and seems to boost the signal, but not change it - maybe add a little presence? Good, and cheap effect. More pleasing to the ear than the Danelectro.

Two knobs - Speed and Width. Don't hurt yourself trying to figure this one out. Could it be easier? Yes - the MXR Micro Chorus had one knob for chorus speed.

Sound Quality : 8
This is the same pedal as the CS-9 Stereo Chorus, only repackaged for the Performance Series. It's a good, simple, stereo analog chorus. Not much in the bells & whistles department but in stereo it can make your guitar sound very big & lush.

Reliability : 7
Starting to get tired of saying this... "The Ibanez Performance series' main problems were the footswitch design (dirt gets in there and a few years down the road the switch is intermittent), and the fact that input/output and AC jacks are soldered directly to the circuit board." If yours has had alot of use, you can expect to do some touch-up soldering sooner or later.

I've been hearing some bad feedback about some of the people answering the phone at Hoshino's service department in Bensalem, PA. Maybe if their number was posted in one of these reviews, that might get their attention. Last time I called they were as helpful as the people at the Taco Bell complaints hotline.

Overall Rating : 8
I collect Ibanez pedals; this was part of a bulk purchase. Even though they're not as visually appealing as the 9-series; the Performance series is just as good in sonic terms. Plus, I like the design of these boxes. If you're in the market for an older analog chorus without spending two walletfulls of cash money, check this one out - it's basically the CS-9 in a different package.
