This pedal is one of the easiest pedals out there. It's all so easy to use. I knew the pedal inside out in a couple of days.

The great thing about this pedal is that you can switch from echo and delay. However, the pedal doesn't work that well with distortion added. I really like the delay, though.

I would use it for any performance without a backup, but the battery only last a couple of hours, and they cost $5 each. You need the charger to go with it, but other than that I haven't had any problems

I love this pedal. It is cheap, easy to use, and has a clean, nice sound quality. I like to play light rock most of the time so I usually don't use distortion with the pedal. It is a way better deal than some of those more expensive pedals that are impossible to use. I do wish that it came with a charger when companies sell it though.

3 knobs 2 slide switches, and the footswitch
it's very easy to use and option between echo and delay actually makes it very versitile as far as delays are concerned
Very cut and dry. no unnecessary functions, just delay and that's all.
I've found a tap-tempo to come in handy when playing big song sets. This one doesn't have one, but I've enjoyed the option on other pedals. like the Boss DD-5 and the Akai Headrush. I'm sure there's more, those are the only ones I've owned.
You can also do the crazy alien spaceship trick. Just set in on delay mode, max out the repeat and turn the volume up a little then as you turn the time knob it will shift the pitch. increase the time and it'll sound like a flying saucer coming in for landing, then crank it the opposite way for take-off. I did it at a show once and dudes were trippin out... pretty cool

For a while I was using the Akai Headrush. Great delay pedal, I was just having noise issues with it. So I decided to try some new ones.
I've had the Boss DD-2,3 & 5. This is most similar to the DD-3. I think it has a longer time capability, but in my opinion more than a couple seconds is too much time anyway. In Echo mode, it sounds a lot like the Danelectro Dan-Echo (I kinda wish I held on to that pedal)
This pedal is great for any rock music and also, with the Echo setting it works well for rockabilly and that kind of stuff. (that's one thing that the Boss ones can't really grab) its really versitile.
Of course the most important thing with delay pedals is the noise. On some delay pedals you'll have some clicks bleading out of the pedal line even when the pedal is on bypass. particularly if your power supply isn't specific to the delay unit. I haven't had any problems using different power supplies, multiple power supply, or even daisy chains with this.
I have to bring this one down to an 8 because i think tube delays are really something amaizing and almost impossible to get out of a digital delay. I've never played with an analog delay enough to want to throw down the cash for one.
I'd put this pedal on even playing ground with the Boss DD-3. its all personal preference... and label envy
any noise caused by a delay pedal would automatically bring it down to a 3 in my opinion.
Reliability
:
9
Nothing's more reliable than a digital delay. minimal noise, no tapes, tubes, or fuses. You'd really have to throw one across the room to have any problems with it. I think I've picked up a DD-3 that was broken only because someone put a reverse polarity power supply in it and blew all the diods. still just a couple dollars to fix, but most people won't go throught the trouble

I think Ibanez has always been really good. Couldn't help me much when some douche bag stole my guitar, but I think they had a decent warantee for the pedals (I could be wrong)

From the day I got this pedal it hasn't left the board. I occasionally swap it out when I'm practicing, but only to be reassured that I like it more than other digital delays.
I think its one of the better pedals out there for playing any kind of music. It just so happens to be one of the cheapest also. lucky me
I've always liked the tone-lok series. they're the "Ugly Betty's" of the pedal world. no one seems to want to admit to using them, but they've had some really good products.

Pretty simple. 3 knobs, delay time, repeat, and delay level. two switches, one for delay time range (short, med, long) and one for delay/echo.

My setup Epi Les Paul > Dunlop Cry Baby > Boss OC2 Octave > Tech 21 XXL Overdrive > Green Russian Big Muff > Ibanez DE7 > Fender Deville 410.
This pedal is decent. Gets the job done. Probably not as clean sounding as a Boss delay. I can't really find any use for the echo setting; it gets too distorted and starts to feedback to easily which just ruins everything. But the Delay setting works for me.
I set the milisecond switch to the middle setting, Delay time @ 12 o' clock, Repeat and Delay level both around 2 o' clock most of the time. It's also fun to set the time switch to long and crank repeat and level all the way up while twisting the time knob for crazy theremin-like sounds.

My issue is that the pedal doesn't always engage when I step on it, which is really frustrating for the parts where you need it right away. It always clicks off easily, but has trouble coming on every once in a while.
Other than that I haven't had problems with it, and I got mine used off of eBay.
I used a One Spot adapter with a daisy chain ($30 on musicians friend) and it powers this pedal fine. Which has saved me loads on battery costs. If you use a lot of effects, I recommend getting this adapter, it'll add a bit of hum, if you can live with it, it'll pay for itself in no time, especially with this pedal. If you don't have an adapter, be prepared to switch batteries after a few practices.

I use delay quite a bit. I play in a band that plays a good amount of ambient parts, and delay is a big part of my sound as a guitarist. I just wish the pedal would engage easier for me.
For the price, you can't beat it. $70 for a new delay is a steal. Got mine off of ebay for around $45.

Read the original site, really. It can't be put any better.
Handling is easy, 3 knobs and 2 switches. In about 15 minutes,
you will know all there is to know.

This is a strong effects pedal, which is really surprising for me.
I didn't expect much quality, just thought of it as a toy, but now
I think it's gig-worthy.
Echo is lo-fi and warm, very faithful but kind of restricting
(stylewise) though it's just my opinion. I rarely play it.
Worth mentioning, though, some folks will go crazy over it -
it has an infinite feedback option, and accessing the control
knobs while the sound is looping will produce far-out effects.
Delay is delay-icious! I flipped when I saw how easy it is
to get a nice rockabilly garage sound, a smooth trailing note
effect especially suited for jazz, or a full-on double track.
I'm keeping the best for the end. Both sound types are WARM
and PLAYABLE. No hiss, no tone suck, no shrill sounds, no volume
drop, no bad worth mentioning. It is, 'course, a digital pedal,
and it will always sound CHEAP, but the QUALITY you're getting
for the price can't be beat. So not lush, not analog dreamland,
but a fine horsie for the working man with sensitive ears.
Would give an 8.5 were it an option.

Durable as hell, yeah. Flimsy buttons but guess what - you can
hide them inside the metal shell so you'll have to try really
hard, plus be a jackass to actually hurt this baby.
Now my one gripe with this sexy pedal is...
EATS. BATTERIES. LIKE. POPCORN. Plus, it ain't compatible
with most adapters, so the best thing is probably to order
an Ibanez original. No big deal, but kind of unpleasant.
Seriously, batteries won't last longer than an hour and a half,
and in cold weather they're gone in like 20 minutes.
Will gig with power adapter, no worries. Trusty thing.
If it wasn't for the adapter problems, I'd give it a solid 8.

Jam-style jazz with rock roots and funk tendencies. Very good match.
Playing and hearing music long enough to know what makes ears
bleed, and what makes them feel fuzzy and nice.
If it were stolen, I woulda save up some more cash for their
analog pedal, AD9. Cause if this little sugarcup rocks so hard,
the higher-end stuff must be REALLY worth the price.
Curious point - the pedal is a flaming purple/pink colour.
Didn't really expect that, I thought they was all metallic-like.
But the striking kitsch colour has somehow worked its way right
into my heart. :)

Very easy to get a good sound in my opinion. I had a Boss DD-3 pedal that I wasn't too happy with. I play with gain and I didn't like the sound I was getting with the Boss pedal. The manual was O.K. but not very useful. You're better off just "Monkeying" around with the pedal.

I didn't have a particular artist I wanted to imitate. I was looking for a "Slap-back", or just a sound playing lead with a slight "Tail" on it. And I can achieve this type of sound on this pedal. I actually liked the "Ping-Pong" effect on my old redface Line 6 Amp, that's EXACTLY the sound I was looking for, and got it using this pedal. I use the Delay effect on this pedal, it also has an Echo setting but I don't use it. I use this pedal with a 100 Watt Marshall TSL 122 Amp, A 1970's Les Paul Deluxe with DiMarzios, and an Epiphone Dot 335 copy stock. I use a power supply, and haven't found this pedal to be noisey. I love the sound quality on this pedal, I've been looking for the Ping-Pong effect for quite awhile and can finally get it using this pedal, I very happy with it.

I would buy this peday again, if it got lost or stolen. I love what I call the "Ping-Pong" effect I have set on it right now. I also like the "Tone Lock" where the knobs click down and save your settings. I have a Boss DD-3 and was never crazy about it. I like this pedal a whole lot better!

Oops! Correction! In my review below, I said:
...A block of foam rubber under the pedal presses on this very delicate switch. I wonder how long before the rubber perishes?...
In fact, the rubber block ONLY PRESSES ON THE BATTERY! There is a metal stud in the hinged lid which presses on the switch mounted in the box. This stud can only travel down a distance precisely set when the lid is stomped on to the box, and no further. Good design after all.
Whilst I apologize for the error, I am back to blaming the poor switching in the 7-series on the switches themselves.

Two switch settings: Echo is a digital copy of old bucket brigade echo devices like the AD9, and Delay is a standard digital delay. Plus 4 self-explanatory knobs.

The Echo setting really reminds me of my old analog delay pedal. Very nice for the dub reggae type effect. Even breaks into that distortion if you want it! You can bring it to the point of self-oscillation, but the beauty is the area on the knob where this happens is very wide, so you can easily set it so it take aaaaaages to die out, but it does eventually die out. This was very difficult to set on my old analog delay pedal. The Delay setting is a clean digital delay sound, cannot be brought to self-oscillation. Clean, solid, modern, but not the reason I bought this pedal.

The 9-series Ibanez/Maxon pedals had a sheet of plastic between the circuit board and the metal bottom cover. Boss pedals have the same. This pedal (I got a DE7c, the red color limited edition version) does not. The circuit board has components on BOTH sides of the board and some of the wires soldered through are pretty long and get dangerously close to the metal panel.
Judging by problems other people have reported here, I have, for safety, cut a card of insulating board and put it between the circuit board and the metal cover. Now I sleep easy.
The switch on this one is OK, but I also have the WD7 which has a dodgy switch, same type. A block of foam rubber under the pedal presses on this very delicate switch. I wonder how long before the rubber perishes? - Not the best system.
There are two springs that keep the lid, ie. stomp pedal surface, up. One was mounted skew and scraped when stomping. They are glued in with a very strong hard reddish adhesive. I pulled them out and reglued them.

Delightful sound, and that is what it's all about. I now have my beloved analog bbd back again, but much more predictable to use. And for the price... :)
Negatives are the manufacturing quality, the switch system and the fact that Ibanez have abandoned the Boss footprint form factor, making them incompatible with the Boss BCB series pedal boxes.

Well... it worked well for a while then the dreaded buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz everytime it was switched on. no delay no nothing, gutted! I kept trying it for about a month but dead, dead dead.
I shed a tear and left it for about a year, using my dd3 and dd5 instead, but they just cant match the analouge sweeps on this thing, it really does sound natural and its nice to add real time modulation to your sound as you can with this.

But unfortunately I wont be buying another one, I cant take the risk of wasting another ?80 on what might become an expensive collection of paper weights, in fact I wont be buying anymore ibanez gear (though Im sure that wont affect their profits!!!). Real shame really cos I loved this pedal when it worked. Like I said I really think this thing had the edge over the dd3+5 (my personal opinion...)

Sound qulaity is excellent; i bought this sight unseen and unheard off ebay for $50 + shipping and I am very impressed - it is exactly what I was looking for. Sold my Boss DD-3 because I was unhappy with several spects of that pedal - dealy time not long enough for wild effects, controls hard to figure out and it has the uselss Hold function that is too short for anything resembling real sound on sound effetcs. This one has everything I could want - AND it sounds remarkably similar to my old Re-201 Space Echo minus the constants sound of the tape loop and motor in the background. Note: This peadal is VERY QUIET. i use it in-line behind my Dunolp 535 Wah, DS-1, SD-1 and CH-1 and it is the quietest of them all. I am using it with the battery since my Daisy Chain AC does seem to add some noise - but that is fine with me. I am recording to DAW so prefer the quiestest possible signal path.

I use a 2001 Gibson SG Special into the following effects- boss ns-2, boss tu-2, budda wah, keeley mod ibanez ts9-808+, line 6 DL-4 modeler and the ibanez de-7 last in the line. use a Mesa Tremoverb combo for my lead and "saturated clean" sounds with a second DE-7 in the loop. for my dirty rhythm and main clean I run an Orange AD30TC head.
First, I love this pedal. I owned a Boss DD-3, but it sounded way sterile to me. Didn't dig the delay at all. Sounded way processed. Picked one of these off a friend who was moving to a rack system. The Echo is amazing, just what i was looking for. it's muddy enough to get really saturated with, but depending on the settings it can be cleaned up nicely. The delay is pretty good. nothing to write home about I guess.

I listed my gear already, and I tested this against the Boss DD-3 and I and own a Line 6 DL-4 (which i use for more spaced out and weirder delays). I own two of these little gems and I use them more than anything else. They're cheap little buggers but they have held up to the test of touring so far and they still sound sweeeet.

It's quite easy,a led, three knobs-delay time, repetitions, level.A switch for the range of delay time( and one for the mode delay/echo),input and stereo output.Just if you need precision on a delay time you can't set it perfectly(like many others pedals)in fact you can operate through a range of time but the knob doesn't let you fix a perfect time. However if you don't need a specific time it's ok.good manual.

Manual is useless (just a folded sheet with 7 or so languages on it), but so-what: it is a very easy to use pedal. My only problem: the delay level knob doesn't handle subtle use of the effect well. I mean, most of what I want is below the first "click", so moving it a millimeter down there "doubles" or "halves" the intensity that I want. I wish the settings I'd like had the knob at 12 oclock, so I could control it better. My sense is that Ibanez favored "gimmick" use of the pedal over serious use. Because at settings below the second click, you can get some really surprisingly good musical use out of this cheap pedal; over the third click, and it's too cheezy for my taste.

Guitar: I play a strat, tele, and rick, through home-made, self-designed amps. sound is sort of like Byrds meets Velvet Underground; the band gets described as a cross of those two, and frankly, I consider it apt, since that hybrid was (now that I think of it!) exactly the sound in my head all those years I was trying to design the sound I wanted.
In that context, this delay pedal is extremely good. "Delay" does essentially perfect replication (and that is what I want), while "Echo" does the job it was intended to do (muddier, decaying repeats). "Echo" is where you can get some bizarre UFO sounds, if that is what you want. Echo also *increases* in volume on the higher Repeat settings -- the selling point for our bassist. He loves the bizarre sounds. I just want clean.
I don't find it noisy for a gigging pedal. I mean, it isn't a studio effect. It does pick up hum from the power supply I used, though. Can't blame it, but just thought I'd mention. More on the power supply later.
I give it a "9" because the delay is essentially a perfect replication of the input, and I hear virtually no switching sound. What more do I want from a delay pedal? I dont' really want much color from it; I just want delay. With reverb, I need a *really* good reverb or I can't bear it (I use a quadraverb GT rack-mounted)... but with delay, it just needs to perfectly replicate the sound and I am happy.

The unit gave me a scare initially, because it didn't like my power supply. Sure, they say you must use an Ibanez pedal... well, I'm not going to buy more power supplies, I have 10 around the house. The ZOOM 9-volt (negative-tip, positive exterior) power supply worked, but there was a two-day period where the unit wouldn't play the guitar's original sound, just the echo! I found it would work again with the battery -- but I don't use batteries for anything I gig with.
I think this was the problem: the ZOOM, like all cheap adapters, actually was running 3 or 4 volts too-high, expecting the pedal to lower the voltage when it draws current (i.e., provides load). By plugging the adapter in to the delay pedal while the voltage was still so high, it seemed to zap the pedal (thankfully, in a non-permanent way -- As if it merely mis-biased an internal pre-amp, which takes time to "come back down" even after I take the supply away).
So I pulled out my volt meter, checked all my other adapters, and ended up using the adapter with the lowest voltage (a Radio shack one, running at maybe 10.5 volts without load). But frankly, I think the ZOOM one would have worked too -- so long as I stick to my new rule: only plug the adapter in to the wall-current when the other end is already firmly and conductively inserted in the Delay pedal. This way, there is always a load -- so the adapter doesn't develop a high voltage to zap the pedal with. Seems to work.
I was sure I'd blown my $70 at first, though. Kudos to Ibanez for intentionally or unintentionally having inherent recovery for my misuse in this case...
Note: the recessed knobs are pretty cool; I imagine they will extend the life of my pedal -- by avoiding knob decapitation! The echo/delay and time-range switches are pretty cheapo, though. Can't say they've broken yet, but I also intend not to use them much.

I joke with my band that every time I hit a short-duration chord when playing alone, I expect to hear some rastafarian singer to jump in. I imagine if you are in a ska or reggae sort of band, that might be exactly what you are looking for. It isn't what I want, though --- BUT once the whole band is playing together, all the "loose ends" of the echo (the "wa-wa-wa-wa-wa" and "clack-clack-clack-clack" stuff you hear on short chords alone) gets totally lost in the overall band roar, and this thing just makes my guitar sound fuller, and basically better in every way, essentially sounding like a decent reverb.
Put it this way: it ends up sounding like a reverb in the overall band sound -- much better than a cheap Reverb (like on the Fender Hot Rod or Blues Junior, which I found appaling), but without the thickness of a real reverb, because of the crystal clarity inherent in the exact duplication that the Delay does. All in all, I've sort of found echo is the perfect gigging effect -- even though it sounds funny solo!

I play an Ibanez artcore semi-acoustic through a fender 60W tube amp (super 112, with the red knobs).
IMHO the Ibanez "7" series in general tends to sound a bit too electronic and crunched.
technically - I've had some hiss problems with it at times. not happy about that.
THAT said...
sound-wise, there are 2 sound modes, echo and delay.
the delay mode is clear, can go on (repeat) for quite a while and remain clean, but it doesn't have a sampler mode like boss delay, so... thats not very functional as it masks everything and generates a mess after a few seconds.
in more resonable settings, the delay mode is very good and has a long range (up to 2.6 sec).
the echo mode is very nice. the sound repeats and grows dim and reverbed with each repetition, and has a lot of impact in both long and short delay times, very nice for thickening the sound.
I got some highly cool sounds recording flute and cello with the DE-7 pluged into the mixer send, and playing around with it while recording. it can generate pad-like harmonies or short oscilating phrases. very dreamy.
I've seen this peddal on stage in the rig of a rock guitarist I like, but only that once.

Great.
Sound quality is almost perfect.
Makes a little noise though... not really noticable and nothing an NS-2 can't handle.
I usually use the "Echo" because it sounds more analog. It has a nice decaying warmth to it. Delay is just delay like you'd find on a boss.
It has an enormous delay/echo range 30ms to 2.6s
You can do some weird oscillating stuff with this pedal if you get some feedback turning the "repeat" and "delay level" up... then mess with the delay time and you can control the pitch(speed) of what is being echoed/delayed.
Kinda like some Radiohead, end of Karma Police?

I've found the -7 tone-lok series of Ibanez to be more reliable than boss.
A couple Boss pedals of mine have failed... including a very expensive NS-2, damnit... and they're new even now.
Then again I have a "crappy" Arion plastic pedal that has outlived some boss.

I did compare to DD6 and I like both for their different qualities. if I had one choice, I'd keep DD6.
delay:
it's normal digital delay, nice time ranges, level works normally but repeats fade away in a sec. it's not infinite repeats! OUCH! the sound is crisp but not crystal clear IMO. it gets a tad darker each repeat, but it's not a problem or anything that would annoy you.
echo:
echo is tricky! same time and level settings as delay but repeats are ompletely different. at 12 o'clock you have pretty long repeats. they decay as well, nice and neat. but after that it's uncontrolable! at 1 o'clock it's almost infinite, at 2 it's infinite and will turn into mud in a moment after 2 repeats start to be louder than the original signal. at 3 o'clock or more you're in trouble.
the trails are muddy, terribly muddy and there's no note definition here, everything will sound same. not like an echo at all.
I found some little useful reverb sort of setting in it.

if you need a cheap and neat delay, this is it. as I said before I prefer DD6 because it has reverse and better repeats. Actually you won't need an 'echo' in a live setting. in live everything gets muddy, specially high gain stuff. so what you need is a crisp delay that would be heard. echo setting on this pedal would just make a consert sound bad muddier. DE7 is ok for studio practice sessions, though.
it's not true-bypass, but not painful like big muff.

This pedal is very noisy. Almost to the point of being unusableso on the Echo setting, which is supposed to simulate the distorting, trailing-off effect that naturally happens with analog delay, but it just ends up feeding back on itself badly. The Delay setting is a little more managable, and granted when you are playing the noise reduces considerably, but the playbacks are distorted and don't sound good, and when you stop playing, it's an infernal buzz! Overall it is passable as a starting pedal, but for anyone wanting to record or even play live, I wouldn't recommend it.

I've had some troubles with it. It caved on me live once, let me down practicing a few times. DO NOT use this thing with a battery, it will eat it up quickly and isn't reliable at all when the battery is even slightly depleted. The on/off switch can be unreliable. Mine is still working and still usable, but I'm definitely seeking something else with similar features and better sound quality.

I play rock. Have been for 8 years. I am looking to replace this pedal as soon as I can. It does have an incredible range of delay time and has been there for a few good jams. It is also capable of some really cool experimental sounds, and keeps up, albeit noisily, with anything you can conceive of for delay. Overall I would say that as a starter pedal it might be worth it for its affordability, but for anyone who is concerned about a quality sound it is useless.

Ah, here's where i depart from the majority of reviewers. In comparsion with a Boss DD-3, for example, this unit is NOISEY and muddy-sounding with distortion. I thoroughly tested the DE7 then promptly sent it back, got a Boss DD3 instead which immediately proved to be a superior product, sound-wise and construction-wise. I'm not completely satisfied with the Boss though, but clearly it's better than the DE7. If you tweak the delay time knob, it has considerably better outer space and UFO sounds as well, if you like that. I thought about trying the Digitech X-delay but the harmony central reviews aren't very good in comparison. The reviews for the Guyatone microdelay are very good, but it apparently doesn't have two separate outs for stereo if you want to use two amps separated by enough distance to get that effect of depth and spaciousness.

-From when I got it I immediatly started trying to get every sound out of it, and it has it all, everything you could hope for from an analog delay + 2.6 seconds of delay!
-Only complaint would be that the switches (between delay ranges and delay and echo) are awfully small, if they were toggle-like then it would be easier to switch in between them using ones foot.
-Oh, and the "tone-lock" feature isn't all that exciting or special to me - it sort of makes knobs harder to turn with a foot, but that's not too big of a deal.

-Very excellent - much more than I expected - I usually use the echo mode for anything from a slapback to a long droned out mush to oscillation (which I was somewhat suprised this pedal was capable of) [I'm not going to give it a 10 though, don't know why - there could be more options, which could be said of almost any pedal...]
-There are no noise problems, even on the echo setting, where you'd expect it.
-My set-up is Gibson SG "Custom" with mini-humbuckers, an LP Junior Double-Cutaway, and a '98 Fender Standard Strat with humbucker installed through a E-H Small Stone, Ibanez DE-7 Delay, MXR Blue Box, Ibanez TS-5 (for treble boost), MXR Distortion +, E-H Big Muff to a Marshall VS232 2x12 [in case you care about any of that].

-I, of course, love the long delay times it can achieve.
-This would have to be bought again, if stolen; in fact, I think I may purchase another one because I get tired of having to change the settings (of which I use many) - now another brand/delay may add more variety, but this delay is just so cheap I doubt I'll be able to resist.
-If you've been searching for the most versitile delay, then you've found it here.

Your basic 3 delay pedal controls: Time, Feedback, and Mix. Then it's got a switch to switch the range of delay time, and a choice between echo (analog emulation with self-oscillation) and delay (digital delay without). Simple enough features, couldn't ask for more at this price range (you want a reverse or tap tempo? shell out more bucks.)
My ONE complaint about this pedal? Despite having a buffered bypass, the delays don't trail off. Still, I'm not deducting points for that because I only use trails for long delays and despite the fact that this pedal is capable of them, I use other delays for long settings.

A Danelectro U2 with an added Bigsby is my main guitar (incredible value for the price, just like this pedal). I've also used it extensively with a Jazzmaster that was my main guitar till I got the Danelectro. I run it along with a Zoom Ultra Fuzz for distortion, a Boss DD-20 for additional delays and looping, and a Digitech GNX3 for a few miscellaneous effects (try 3 delays in a row!) and looping, and then they go to a Fender Ultimate Stereo Chorus solid-state amp (warm Fender cleans without tube unreliability). When I'm playing garage-rock or surf, I go Dano -> DE-7 (set for various slapback times) -> various low-wattage tube amps, currently a Gibson. However, I also use this on keyboards (Rhodes, synths, Casios, even circuit-bent stuff like a Speak n' Spell)
This pedal sounds amazing. Having owned 7 other delays (see below), the DE-7 comes out the clear winner in terms of sound quality versus price. It sounds like analog, but cuts through in a way analog never could. And one can be had for much cheaper than analog. Simply put, it's a great value.

This is hands-down my favorite for regular delays. It's awesome. it does surf, anywhere to sound-on sound. But it's tricky when to turn off the switch, cuz when you do, shows over, the echo stops. It sounds warmer than, like a boss, soft like analog delay. But longer. And try the insane repeats... like Johnny Greenwood. I ran one of mine for insane repeats to my crappy 15watt crate, and the dry output to another one for a regular echo and the rest of my FX loop, to the Marshall. cool trick. turn up the crate, you've got a wall of... something.

Epiphone SG (nicer than it sound!), and a lovely ld Silvertone valve amp from the mid-60's. Unfortunately, the amp doesn't have reverb: whilst this pedal is not specifically designed as a reverb unit, it does the job admirably, and doubles up as a fantastic echo / delay.
The delay is unimpressive. But how impressive should a delay be? At least it's long.
The echo matches up to my expectations, which were high, after reading the reviews below. The ocillation is great. This is a very organic sounding pedal, considering the technology and the price.

Okay, so I've been using a DD3 for a couple of years and was pleased but never totally happy with its clinical sound. I finally learned about the difference between Analogue and digital delays (insert sheepish grin here)and started trying out analogue delays, EH memory men, Ibanez AD9, etc. Finally I get that lush warm ton I've been itching for. But I dont have the money for the expensive boutique or vintage stuff so I'm frustrated. A friend tells me to try one of these DE7 things out and voila!! I ran this unit into a 70s Twin and got all the drippy, warm lush spaces I'd ever want, and all the slappy clean stuff too. It is particularly sweet on the ECHO settings. One of the things I loved about it when I spent time listening to it IN DETAIL were those wonderful "analogue" anomalies that are mentioned in some of the reviews below. There is a sweet organic/natural tone to this unit. Now...considering its simplicity, affordability, no bleed through and transparency I have to give this thing the full 10.

The quality of the echo is excellent. A wide range of times, and nothing to downgrade my sound.
Cort Strat Copy --> Boss DS-1 --> Ibanez DE-7 --> Marshall VS102R
I play post-rock-ish kind of stuff. (Similar to Explosions in the Sky or Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and this is perfect for the tremelo-ing and fast picking. Sounds great. However, I'm a little dissapointed with the delay. Say, I strike a note, and stop it, the sound will come back, but with a bad fuzz sound mixed in with it. And the quality degrades as it continues. Somehow I'm not so keen on the delay, but echo is just great. You can create some really great soundscapes with this thing. It adds an enormous amount of "spaceness" to your sound. Watch out when you're playing some leadsolo's, when you twist the repeat knob too much to the right, your sound gets blurred.
Also watch out when using high gain tube amps (for instance my Engl), you suddenly don't need to twist the delay level and repeat knob that much to the right; it gets a bit too overwhelming, your bandmembers would like to hear their instruments too :)
But then again, I like to play the more experimental kind of guitarmusic and I refuse to play leadsolo's, so this thing is perfect!
I like the sound of the DE7 far over the Boss pedals, which produce a way too digital sound. And it saves you a lot of money!
I think in the future I'll experiment some more with the delay mode, maybe I'll start liking it aswell!
(For the ones who'd like to know: I use a Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty > Marshall Vibratem > Ibanez DE-7 > Engl Screamer 50 (all tube))

Handle your DE-7 with care, it's not made to resist you jumping on it! I wish it was, but the thing is cheap for a reason.
I should also not experiment with throwing the thing from stairs, it'll probably not survive. But otherwise, I use it on gigs and sofar it's reliable enough for me.
One thing though:
DON'T USE BATTERIES!!! The thing eats a 9V in less than 45 minutes!
Use an adapter, BUT check the polarity. If it still doesn't work with an adapter, which many of you have experienced, return it to the store where you bought it and ask for a new one. I did so and got an new one, which does work with an adapter. Maybe it's a manufactural error since so many of you have had this problem.
For those who are thinking of buying one: check the thing in store with an adapter!

Ibanez DE-7 Delay/Echo. This pedal has three knobs (delay time, repeat, delay level), two knobs (delay time, delay/echo modes), and a footswitch (self explanitory, on/off). A trained chimp could work this unit without much frustration. If you're having trouble, may I suggest a user manual with LOTS of pictures and words in very big print. Otherwise, re-evaluate yourself why you're playing guitar in the first place.
The delay, echo, and self-oscillation modes are all easily controllable and tweakable. This is probably the easiest delay unit I've ever used.
Sound Quality
:
10
I will rate the sound quality in three different sections on the three different modes - Delay, Echo, and Self-Oscillation.
MODE 1 - DIGITAL DELAY
I'm very impressed with the delay mode on this pedal. It manages to pull of a clean sounding delay that doesn't sound too digital or harsh. Most digital delays try to focus more on features rather than on sound, and end up sounding way too mechanical and not musically pleasing. This unit does the exact opposite, providing a very clean, unmuddy, unmechanical sound that is practically unmatched (in its price range). This would be best described in the delay sound that most people are looking for, but have not found yet.
MODE 2 - ECHO
The warmth and brilliance of tape echo, smushed into a digital pedal. This is one task that many manufactuers have tried but always failed at. Ibanez is not one of those. They have actually excelled in creating tape echo that sounds like, well...tape echo. The dark, warm, haunting sound of murky tape echo does not fall short on this pedal. This is not a cheap immitation. I've owned, heard, and tried several different analog delays, and the sound on this pedal does not disappoint. The echo mode on this pedal is just as good as, if not BETTER than the previous analog units I've tried. And the best thing is, it is not limited to short delay time (i.e. 500ms) like most analog delays are. This can go from a double-tracked 50ms, all the way to 2600ms (2.6 seconds) without blurring the edges. Amazing. Even moreso, you can get sound on sound, and play over the licks the pedal just processed. All in the beautiful soundscaping analog utopia of TAPE ECHO!! Awesome.
MODE 3 - SELF-OSCILLATION
This section is only for the noise makers. What others would call pure bliss, some would call absolute noise. They wonder why anybody would want to manufacture a unit that makes noises when you turn the knobs a certain way. Well, love it or hate it, this unit does exactly what you could want in self oscillation. The noises this pedal generates are quite similar to the end of Karma Police from Radiohead. I've also managed to get some very very freaky noises that remind me of clowns and circus music, with evil children laughing in the background -- and I'm not kidding. You can get EXACTLY those sounds by turning the knobs a certain way at the right time. You achieve this self oscillation by maxing out the repeat knob (or at least turning it more than half way) and playing various notes. Then while it's "delaying", just sit back and let it do the work. Once the noises get pretty fierce, start twisting knobs and away you go. Twisting the delay time knob to the right makes the sound go lower and sounds like your speakers are going to explode, and turning it left makes the UFO sound and the high pitched whistling-in-a-bottle-underwater type noise. You can also get factory-type industrial machinery type sounds out of this - it sounds like tin or metal being scraped or worked with in the background. VERY cool.
If you're looking for a unit that self oscillates AND sounds good, this is your unit.

I've heard so many stories about Ibanez pedals breaking, power supplies not working, the switches going bad, blah blah blah. From MY personal experience, this pedal is ROCK SOLID. My Godlyke Powerall powers this thing without any trouble at all. As far as the switch is concerned, I'm sure if you don't STOMP on it, you'll be fine. This isn't a soda can to crush for the can machines. This is a delay pedal. I tap my pedals, not stomp on them.
The pedal is fairly heavy, and it seems fine. I'm sure it will hold up for quite awhile. I've taken it to gigs, rehersals, recording sessions, meetings, etc. Still going strong.

I play alternative/hard rock/ambient/expiramental/noise-making, etc. I've been playing guitar for roughly two years. This pedal is currently my top pedal in my chain. I love it to pieces. It doesn't sound too digital or harsh, and it's not murky or dirty. It sounds just right.
It fits right in my chain :
Fender Stratocaster > Boss SD-1 > DOD Classic Fuzz > Boss CE-5 > Electro Harmonix Small Stone > Ibanez DE-7 > Behringer GM110.
Placed right after every effect, the closest to the amp.
This pedal is better than the Boss DD-3, the Boss DM-2, the Arion SAD-3, almost any pedal you can think of. I love this pedal because of its versatility and the great bargain. I chose this one because I felt it would suit my needs the best and I was right! Sometimes I can't turn the unit off! When I first got it, I played with it off and on for about three hours before I packed up and put my guitar stuff away. And matched with a volume pedal is just the king of all guitar fun. I love it. I sold the volume pedal (EB Mono Vol), but this one is here to stay!
I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a delay pedal - hilbillies, hard rockers, noise makers, or just plain guitar players! What are you waiting for?!?! ;-)
God Bless!

Great echo effects. It can achieve many effects associated with the tape delay units of bygone years for
a very reasonable price. I am able to imitate some of
the early Pink Floyd tape effects in the echo mode such
as in "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun".

The unit has a huge delay time (2.6 seconds I think).
It sounds precise, bright, a bit metallic, sharp, loud.
It does not sound soft nor warm.
It's not a subtle effect by no means. This delay is meant to be used for delay based playing (U2, Muses, etc ...). It's not the kind that you want to use for adding some air/thickness to your solos.
Blues-rock players steer clear !
I'm not saying it's not useable for those, but there are better dedicated units out.
It sounds wonderful with clean arpegios (better than most other units).
It doesn't sound as good with distortion.

The switch is a big concern and a bad concept anyway.
It's likely to crap out on me very soon.
I have the new version (2 springs near to the shaft as opposed to the older ones that has the springs in the corners)

If you want to add some "air" to your solos, this is not the one you're looking for. If you're a blues/pentatonic player and want to stomp on this for your solo, look elsewhere, there are better units out there.
If delay/echo is a big part of your sound (like The edge) then this is it.
Better for rythm than for solos.
Better with cleanish tones.
Very proeminent delay that wants to take over your sound.

Well, quite easy I think, if you know your way around delays. Anyone can tweak the knobs, but to have it work and sound great within a band is another story. There was a manual included and it covered the basics, but it all boils down to just fooling around with it for a while.

I mainly use a very pretty Epiphone les paul with a bigsby tremolo. With band practise I'm forced to use a Hughes & Kettner amp (although they're not my favorites). I'm a real pedal-geek, so I've got a range of other pedals, but my main setup is: guitar, boss tu-2, pro-co RAT II, small stone phaser, DE-7, Holy Grail Reverb, amp. At home I have a vox pathfinder 15 watt, which I don't particularly like, but that's another story. The DE-7 is not noisy at all when used with a proper adapter. When it's off it doesn't seem to eat my tone away as some effectspedals do. You can get all sorts of delay effects when it is switched on, but sometimes it just gets a bit muddy when used with the band, but I've found some sweet spots. The echo is just great! Our band plays some radiohead-covers and other stuff. I would be reasonable to say we are a bit of a Radiohead wanna-be band (I wouldn't say clone, bcause we're nowhere near Radiohead). I'm the guy that does the weird effects at the end and tries to mimic Jonny Greenwood's edgy riffs... And the DE_7 is an important part of that sound. It can do the psychedelic depressed echo-y sounds quite well as well as the oscillating noises at the end of Karma Police... The only thing I don't like about it is when you switch the thing off. The delay stops emediately where I would like it to continue and die away for a while...

It's dependable. The next world tour with or band hasn't been planned yet, but I'm sure it will survive one when properly stored in a flightcase. You don't want to smash it against the wall, but hey, these pedals are not ment to be smashed against walls. I'm not sure it would survive a fall down a flight of stairs either. Don't abuse it. If you're nice to it it wll be nice to you.

Well, I already told you we play Radiohead covers. The DE-7 fits in nicely. I've been playing for about 4 years now and still no good, but I like toying around with my effects. I would surely buy it again if it broke down, especially for the price. I'd like to try a space-echo, but I don't have the cash. I've choosen this unit over the boss dd's. Mainly because it's just as good (or maybe better)at a fraction of the price. It's a very inspiring unit and although I try to blend it in the music we make it often stands out and gives a new demensoin to the song.

I would say that this pedal is very easy to use. I has a time knob, repeat knob, and level knob; you know, moron stuff. It has a switch for delay mode and analog echo mode. The other switch is for the delay range, but if you don't know what the numbers mean, just fool around with the switches and see what they do. These controls are simple and effective and are easy on those of us with higher blood pressures.

First, my setup. I am currently using a Fender Highway 1 Strat, a Crate GX212 combo, a Boss Super Phaser, and I am now glad to add the DE-7 to my setup. It sounds great with my equipment (especially when I use the phaser and the delay together). I can easily replicate the effects-antics of Mike Enziger of Incubus and Omar Rodriguez of The Mars Volta. One of my favorite things to do with this pedal is make noise though. Try it: put the pedal on echo mode and turn the repeat knob all the way up. The signal oscillates and becomes increasingly loud; and if you fool around with the time knob, you can make some cool swooshing noises like Todd Weinstock of Glassjaw. Other than that, the delay mode goves you smooth and flawless repeats while the echo mode does the same and a little more.

I play a small range of styles including some funk, jazz-fusion (kind of) and a "hardcore-esque" style (I'm VERY lousy with the categories, but I assure you I don't play Emo and definitely not Punk). In the short time that I've played, I found my self absolutely despising delays, but falling in love with this one. I would definitely buy this pedal over a Boss delay (even though Boss makes some pretty solid stuff). I love its simplicity, and it looks cool too. If it was lost or stolen, I would definitely buy another. This pedal is beyond great for the price and is a MUST-BUY for the less-wealthy musician longing for a dealy, or anyone who just wants one.

This is with refernce to the adapter issue. Just bought a DE7 and expected problems after reading some of these reviews. Got the guy
in the store to test a standard multi-adapter (#7, about $10) for me and it worked. Got the unit home and tried it with my 2 other multi-adapters running my Boss CE-5 and Dano Fab-Tone (all 3 different brands, output 300-500mA) they all work just fine. I can only guess that some people have had polarity issues. If the polarity at the jack-plug is reversed, it obviously won't function at all. So there you go. Enjoy.

UPDATE:
If you want a great digital/analog delay get the DE-7! The delay section gives you precise, hearty repeats at long or short intervals...CLEAN.
If you like the DM-2,but can't afford one,the DE-7 can do the job...and more! Since it has it's own delay volume knob, you can let the DE-7 "BLOW-UP"(oscillate)all it wants, without damaging your speakers.Plus,it gets longer repeats.Tweak the rate knob and your space ship can land or take off.
I don't leave home without it!

STOP SAYING SILLY THINGS ABOUT THE ADAPTER PROBLEM. The ibanez one is not special but it's simply a STABILIZED adpter, that is required for many other pedals (my morley wah is fucking noisy and quite worthless with a non-stabilized adapter). I just bought a stab. 850 mA adapter and it works perfectly connected in parallel with the delay, the wah and two dist pedals, just warms a lot but that's an ampere problem... and it was just 10 ?...

I think its pretty easy to use. Im not a fan of alot of pedals in my setup. Nor am I a fan of pedals with too many features. This one however was alot of fun to experiment with. I dont use the delay much but the echo is killer. The manual for it is boring, so I threw it away and started experimenting with it. The pop up buttons are a nice touch. Once you find a good setting, just push em down and you cant accidently reposition them.

Sound quality its ok on a clean or chorus setting. In the echo mode it deteriorates if distortion is used and the echo volume and depth (length of time the echo goes on) is too high. Generaly this can be avoided since too much volume and depth can get you lost after awhile unless you are playing the same three notes over and over again.
I use a Les Paul through a Dunlop Wah, Ibanez distortion, Ibanez delay, Johnson Chorus, Danelectro EQ to a Marshall AVT50 half stack.

If it were stolen, I would probably replace it with the same one, although I am tempted to see how well other brands sound since this is my first real echo pedal. I would say that this pedal is probaly somewhere between a cheapo and an expensive one by the way its constructed. Its not cheap plastic but its not a metal tank either. Good value for the money.

All effects with the DE-7 are great sounding, from simple (...) vintage echo to metal double play.
I could get Funkadelic's Maggot Brain sound with some minor experimenting, and found some heavenly echoes that scream to be used.
I think this is the best delay one could buy (sure, we all want a Roland Space Echo...but for that price you can buy like 5 DE-7 pedals !!!), all with their own set-up, sounds like echo heaven, with some delay...

This is the best sounding delay in a pedal format that I've yet tried (haven't played through the L6 Delay modeler, but I refuse to pay that kind of money for a delay anyway). For a long, long, time I've been looking for a non-rack delay that sounds good and does old style echo too. I've really missed my old analog echo sounds, and this pedal has brought them back for a really good price. It really emulates analog echo quite well!
To those who haven't heard analog echo, well, digital delay units are fine, but are also really all the same after a point in fidelity, and when this pedal is in that mode, it does that typical "carbon copy" thing pretty good too - but turn it to Echo mode, and prepare to hear something special...analog style echo produces a decaying fidelity echo that can eventually blend together into an ambient background, thus producing a beautiful & spacey sounding effect in the process. Turn the repeat knob far up, and it feeds back - which I think sounds great. You can hear echo like this in Radiohead's material. Every analog echo brand sounds a little different than its competition, due to greater sonic variables than a digital delay, and this one happens to have a very musical & usable sound to it. Overall, it's just so much cooler sounding than a typical digital delay in my opinion.

I use this for my main setup of either a PRS Santana or an Ernie Ball silhouette through an ADA MP-1 preamp(love it!!!) Into , yes you heard me right, an Alesis RA-100 reference power amp. This is fed in stereo to an ancient Peavey 4x12 cabinet(built like a rock!!!! With the scorpion speakers in them) and a 2 X 12 Carvin Cab. FOr those that Are curious, I use the Carvins loaded with celestions for the high end and the warm Scorpions for the low bottom. I then alter the signal level from each to "EQ" my tone for the right balance of highs and lows.I have noise reduction due to the fact that all my pedals hiss from the ac powering(sorry< i just cant keep up with batteries on 6-8 pedals especially this power soaker!!!). OK enough about my set up...The echo is awesome sounding, but one major stickler is this....in a band context, if you kick this thing in for a lead, you will drop out into a wash of mush(it will sound fine if the band isnt playing though!)....i suppose using a volume pedal to boost the signal when you kick this on might alleviate the problem, but i do not need another pedal!!!! I have the soundman boost me a little in case you were wondering...and now about sterile sound: remember one mans junk is another mans weapon!!! When using this to recreate triplet repeats(Think Van Halens "Cathedral" without the volume swells), this "sterility" causes the triplet notes to stab out of the amp like ice picks! Its funny because a lot of people use this effect to sound like theyre playing more notes than they are, but with this effect its driving the point home. Its like, "Look at me go!" right in the audiences face!

Poor mans dd-3. GREAT ECHO sound! Bought it for the echo, the delay sound is just ok, kinda cheap sounding.
My set-up: MIM modified Tele thru a Fender Deluxe 90 (no tubes ma!) with an older Crybaby, old Ibanez Tube Screamer (god I love that box!)and an MXR noisegate.
The tone I get with this set-up is somewhere between Dire Straits and SRV.

Ive gone thru a DD3 before this and although i did not A/B these 2 but the DE-7 sounds very good. The best part is the echo definitely. Yes i can't say it sounds like those analog delays but u can use ur ears to hear it for urself. But the downside of echo is that i could not use very long delay times for it because it will sound 'dirty', but anyway I would switch to delay mode when using long delay times.

A definite no for this category. It's not because of the switch, it's just that after only two week of use, the pedal suddenly could not be turned on for no reason. It's not the switch, I dunno why then I put a battery in it, then it can be switched on again, but when i use back my adapter, it's not working again...terrible, i really can't give myself reasons to trust Ibanez 7-series pedals again after hearing so many realiability issues.

Very easy to use. 3 knobs and 2 switches, no big deal. The hard thing is to get a nice delay sound out of it; sometimes is better to have it on the effects loop of the amp instead of in front of it. The effect-level makes dramatic changes in the sound, making it confuse sometimes.
Sound Quality
:

The effect in general sounds great. It's very clean and when turned OFF it doesn't affect the sound noticeably, I don't know if it has true bypass or not, but it's really quiet anyway. The delay mode is very nice and is the one I use the most; the echo sounds good but I don't have a use for it right now, so I can't say much about it.
It is important to try it both ways, in front of the amp or through the effects loop; it sounds different.
The thing I personally dislike is that it seems to add A LOT of reverb when used with a high effect-level. I don't know if it's normal in these type of effects, but it's annoying, I can't use it past 8 o'clock, or it will sound like bullshit. I use it with distortion, so a high effect level with LOADS of annoying reverb = total shit, especially when soloing really fast. If I follow this rule of thumb, though, I have a very nice sound.
My current setup is: Yamaha RGX621D or Jackson King V or BC RICH Mockingbird -- BOSS TU2 -- BOSS MT2 -- IBANEZ DE-7 -- vintage MRX Phase 90 -- CRATE Blue VooDoo

Nice pedal, rugged and reliable it seems. But Hell, it doesn't feel as reliable as MXR or a BOSS at least. The plastic switches don't give me enough confidence, but I don't move'em anyway, I use delay mode and the middle position for time (I don't remember the range in milliseconds, though).
The thing I really hate about it is that, contrary to BOSS products, you must use only an IBANEZ adapter or it won't work. At least it happened to me and it wouldn't be a trouble if it wasn't because you can't find it easily here (luckily I had one!!). The secret is inside the adapter, it's different than the others (dirty trick, IBANEZ), no matter if they are 9V too, PANASONIC, BOSS or another brand. I know 'cause I opened mine :) he he he
BUYER BEWARE: Some idiot said in an early review that you must use a 9V adapter with 70mA or so, otherwise you will fry the circuit. WRONG, WHAT AN IMBECILE, JUST FUCKING DIE!!!! You can't fry a circuit by doing that, don't be an asshole. The way to fry any pedal, multieffects or electronic device of any kind, is to use an adapter with a higher output voltage than the input voltage that the device is intended for, for example a 12V adapter for a 9V pedal. The higher the mA output of the adapter, the stronger the output current, so it means less chance to have an unexpected drop-off, and that, to me, is an advantage. So when somebody tries to fool you with such bullshit, don't be an idiot and smash his/her face, stupidity must be punished!

I find it to be a nice effect. Well built, but could be better. The sounds are clean and nice. Nice for Metal, Rock and any musical genre where delay is needed. 2 effects for the price of 1, at $59.99 is a good deal, anyway.
PLEASE PLEASE, adjust the effect-level reverb IBANEZ. It makes the effect almost unusable on high settings, at least for Death Metal fast soloing.
If stolen or damaged I'd search for anything else, maybe a Guyatone, just for trying out something different, or a rack-mountable unit. But, if you have a tight budget and want a nice-sounding delay it would do the trick OK.

Main setup is Aria Pro II LP copy --> Marshall VS265 Valvestate --> (effects loop) Korg AX1000G Processor --> This --> return. The processor has some very very nice digital delays that I wouldn't trade for much short of a set of 4 vintage analog pedals. This being said, I bought this thing for echo, not for delay. I heard through the grapevine that this has some real nice analog-sounding echos, and I think i agree. The only thing I wish was that Ibanez put out two different pedals, one delay with reverse option, and one echo with reverse option. This being said, the straight-up echo is one of the best boxes on the market. The delay is a bit too digital and square for my tastes, but I did buy this for the echo, so I'm throughly satisfied. And, 2.6 seconds of delay time is more than enough for anyone, if you need more, get something that loops, and spend a whole lot more.

I personally have had no problems with this, and it's metal. The switch, though plastic, is protected by the chassis, so unless you go slipknot on your box, it'll last you, and probably your kids. The first time I used this, I bought 2 Energizer 9 volts, so i could use it for a while befoer having to go to the corner store to get new batteries. Needless to say, when my batteries wore out in 3 days, I bought the adapter. Do yourself a favor. Buy the adapter, a decent powerstrip, then go to a gig. And then have no problems.

I play a weird metalish/psychadelic/ambience music, and this little box is really a good fit. The only gripe I have is that when you switch the box off, the echo cuts, and doesn't trail, showing that this is definitely a digital box(and so do the solid-state parts inside the chassis...), even though the tape echo sound is very convincing. Oh yeah, hook this baby up through a Rhodes Piano...fun times for all. Last thing, I don't give 10's for overall rating, so a 9 is very respectable, in case you had any inquiries.

The main reason for posting this review was to try to offset some bonehead reviews. Some guys bitch and moan that that this pedal is unreliable, that the switch failed. Well wake up wankers, this pedal sucks juice, and at 800 mA, it will eat a new battery - post haste. So you need to use an adapter, or it will die on you at the worst possible time.
I have not had a bit of problem with any of my Tone-Lok pedals, and would recommend them to anyone.

took me about 10 minutes to get a good sound out of it and figure out what the knobs and switches do - pretty simple. instruction manual is worthless, however, and doesn't really tell you anything about the pedal. the example settings don't really sound nice to me, so i'd recommend just making your own up. not giving it a 10 coz of the manual.

i use a yamaha pacifica 112MX through a boss SD-1 overdrive, nobels DXTN disrotion and into a peavey 15W amp (practice amp). it seems to give off some sort of fuzz but i don't know whether that will be less in a bigger amp. the pedal sounds great and you can get just about any delay-type sound out of it you want. the echo/vintage switch is great. i prefer using this most of the time since it gives a really warm tonal quality. it seems to lower the tone on every echo and mess about with it a little - making it sound more natural.
i listen mostly to punk, ska and reggae and it's really nice at getting some really trippy ska delay sounds. there's also this nice "feature" where if you turn the repeat and delay level up while it's on echo then you get feedback but it sounds really nice. you can get some crazy sounds out of it especially if you move the delay time knob - sounds like a tape slowing down or speeding up. pwnage.
one thing i've noticed, which is a lot more prominent at very high delay times, is that the sound out of it is kinda fuzzy and not very clear. it must be only 16 bit so the sound just sounds kinda dull and fuzzy when you use the long delay times. but that's nothing to worry about really since most of the time you won't use that high a setting.
another thing about long delays is that if you set it to max (with repeat and delay level max) and play some 4 chord riff pretty fast then you can play over yourself. it seems to have infinite number of delays (although they do trail off after a while) so you can play a bass line, then chords, then some little licks on top. very nice. you wouldn't be able to do this on the more expensive boss DD-3 (as it has a third of the delay time).
gets a 9 becasuse of the kind of fuzz you get off it (might just be me...)

Quiet as a church mouse. I went on a quest to find the perfect delay pedal. There is no such thing as perfection. I have owned and played the folowing in the last year. Electro Harmonix Memory Man, Line6 DL4 Delay modler, DOD FX96, Ibanez AD99, Ibanez AD9, Boss DM2, and this Ibanez DE7. The worst was the memory man a noisy big bulky box. The line 6 was ok, big bulky box without any real BIG sound to go with it. The DOD well it was DOD cheap. The AD9, AD99, and Boss DM2 were all fine sounding, however way over-rated and commanding one heck of a price. They also are very limited in the Delay times and versatility. Now unless you have a pair of those "Golden Ears" a lot of reviewers seem to have by their own admission. Then I suggest you buy all the pedals like me and re-sell the ones you don't want on EBUY and make your own call. This pedal for sound gets a real 9.5 I am giving it 10 to help off set the wanker down below who gave it 6 for sound. The only pedal close to a six was the DOD.

Tried it with one of thoese expencive Ibanez (2xHumbacker+floyd,top lock) models on an Fender amp (the sound sucked 'cause cheap 10-50watt Fender amps suck - too much bass & no tone) at the shop.
Then when i got it on an Pevey tube amp it rocked good, i had a chance to try out on an switcher at the same time Boss DD-3 & DD-5 and let me tell you DE 7 kicked the ass out of boss crap delay... so i bought DE-7 and since then i never go to sleep with out it ;)))
I also tried it out on Marshal AVT 20 with an Mexican Fender Stratocaster (one of thoese 2x single coil + DiMartzio hum. + Floyd models) it had a gerat sound.
I use it at home and gigs with an Marshal amps and Hammer Slammer guit. it's basicly a pity to waste such good equipment if you have a low-to-mid-ragne guitar that thoesn't have a too good sound.
With Marshall tube amps i had an incredable sound on clean so i guess it's best to try it and use it on an amp. that has a good clean tone to see how good the pedal is.
DE-7 is great for practicly anything from U2, Incubus, Pink Floyd stuff to APC, Tool, Metallica to experimenting with stuff like PFM, LTJ Bukem,...
I have DE-7 for almost a year and havn't tried out all of the sets yet, you get stuck with a few you like than you find a new better one, i've just discovered the echno mods sounds so i'm havvving a lot lot of of fun fun fun fun fun with that... ;] :] ;) :)

Well, there is a few metters:
1. Everyone here forgot to mention the ToneLock level knobs, they are great for gigs, you set the settings you like, lock the knobs and do not have to worry 'till the end of the night about some drunk teenager kicking your pedal accidentaly while passing buy.
The bad side about ToneLock is that the level knobs are way too sensible (since they are plastical and go in and out of the pedal) and they could be easily crashed if you do not pay attention all the time and like to kick your equipment when your sting goes off.
*The solution to this is just locking levels all the time.
2. The 'small plastic switch' issue, well i guess Ibanez should think a little more next time they are about to make a great line of effect pedals. The switch can be a lot of trouble, but if you get use to it and 'get to know it', get to know how to step on it, you won't have ever any trouble with it.
Solution number two is useing the pedal with a switcher such as Boss LS-2 where DE-7 would allways be tunrned on.
3. Another overlooked issue is it uses a 9v battery BUT it uses twice more mA power than the everage dist. pedal. So you should consider about buying an Ibanez AC109, AC309 or AC509. The pedal just didn't work with my 1000mA 9v AC that is modified to power up to 7 pedals at the same time so i had to go and buy a special adapter for DE-7, anyway i didn't wanna damage it since it costs 2x then any other pedal indipendently.
I would defenetly use it on stage, but if you just bought it i would advise you to spend some time with it, get use to it and then use it...

I play guit. for like almost 10 years,..
With band i play ambient, drum 'n' bass and grange,...
>'If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else?'
Well, let's say if i would find the person who stole it, it would suffer great pain. (like listening to me while playing on Mesa/Boogi 4 x 4x12 'till he becomes paranoid)
I'd buy DE-7 again or try to find if there is a newer model available. And i'd pay it a lot more if i had too, even though i think it's pretty expencive with 140e|$...
>'Does it help you make music, or does it get in the way?'
It sure does help, it helped inspire me, get my playing as a much opened, melodic, rhytmic - when you use a delay or echo pedal you have to be much more in-the-rhytam, on-the-time, so i play way better after useing de-7...

its a terific pedal!!! i chose this over the boss dd-3 digital delay, it has a really sweet tone, especially with the echo mode on... its not that noisy at all... it can make a really sweet reverb sound with the echo mode, and if u put it in the 650 - 2600... u can play a riff and it repeats it... i use a custom guitar, connected to a jim dunlop wah, boss metal zone, boss turbo distortion, ibanez delay echo, dod super stereo chorus..... then my crappy amp peavey rage 158, which i will replace with a marshall avt50 soon.... anyways, this pedal is wat better than the other delay pedals in the market... the dd-5 expensive, and its new features are pretty useless, the dd-3 ok i guess, the hold function isnt really that useful, but the ibanez delay echo, it has a wider delay range, 2 pedals in one, and its cheap... so i recomend u this pedal...

Very easy to a get a great sound out of this... from 60's Floyd to U2, or just adding a touch of echo effect to a clean sound - for me it works for everything. The delay/echo settings are different enough to add diversity.

Great great sound, no matter which guitar you use - I use a Japan-made Fender Jaguar, and before that a cheap-o Squier Startocaster - it sounds the same [grrreat] with both guitars and amps I had).
Sometimes I just let friends who have no idea how to play toy with my guitar, so I cranked up the delay and every silly thing they did resulted as psychedelic magic :)

After some time the pedal switch (unavoidably?) started getting moods - responding only when it feels like it. I get this problem from other Ibanez pedals as well. And it's not like I ever gigged with it. Also, the "range" setting somehow got narrower after a year or so, and had less effect. Weird.

I almost always this pedal is an integral part of my playing (though I try to to base myself on it too much, naturally). I kept on using it for a year even when it died down (since it's a little pricy where i'm from) until eventually a friend bought me a new one. Now I remember how superb it was in the first place, I hope this one will last longer. I'm sure this isn't the case with all of the pedals, probably just rotten luck.

Its pretty simple and straight forward.
Takes a a little time to get the sound you are wanting out of it. And it took me awhile to be able to tell the difference between the "echo" and "delay"
But its pretty simple.
The pop up knobs are nice, I think you would have to hit them pretty hard to take them off. And the 3 switches for different delay times can work great.

This is a nice sounding effect, The "echo" mode seems to simulate an analog (not tape) machine, It has a longer "fade out" and very organic sounding. At 1st I used the digital mode most the time. But now I almost always use the "echo".
You can do some nice stuff with the "echo" mode, if you turn the repeats to full. it will start to feed back (sort of like when you get to close to your amp)
This product is best used in the effects loop,
One thing that is fun is to hook the amp up to the dry out, and hook another amp into the mono out, that way it will give you a sort of slap back echo, Well the Akia Head rush , Can do this with 4 amps but, Still this can be fun.
Another thing which I don't love about this pedal, Is when you turn it off it will not delay out, It just cuts off, which makes it hard to turn off mid song.
But this also could mean its true bypass(or at least a pretty clean bypass).

Well If it was not for this tiny little crapy switch they installed in this thing I would give it darn near a 10,
Cuz its in a solid box all metal and if you put down the knobs there is little risk.
Now the switch deal with this is pretty screwy.
It won't always turn on or off, some times you just have to step on it more. its not a huge thing. But if I gigged I would be pissed.

there support is nothing great, I could not even find a e-mail or contact off of there site,. And when I went to try and take it to a dealer, to have it sent in, You need a receipt.

I've looked at a lot of other delays and this one is the best delay for the money.
Boss makes some ok delays, But they are more money then this pedal, And only digital mode, Rather harsh, And the only real advantage is it fades out, But they are also more noise.
Then delays like line6 are always great but really over priced for what you get. plus line6 has really sad ethics, And I try my best to support smaller companies. (not saying ibanez is).
The only delay that can beat this unit is the AKIA head rush.
But that pedal was a bit more then I could afford at that time.
This pedal could use a few different little things but really on a whole for the price its pretty unbeatable.

Three dials, two switches, a dry-out and mono-out jack coupled with the input. Fooling with the dials to get your sound is not hard at all. The stomp area feels like you have to push it a long way to get it to work, but when you use you realize you don't. Red indicator light to tell you it's on. Very simple stuff.

Beautiful! This pedal does it all. You can get rich, endless echo effects and understated reverb effects. I've tweaked the knobs to act almost as a reverb and I use it for clean stuff like "Nothing Else Matters" and the intro to "The Thing That Should Not Be." (I play lots of Metallica by the way). I got this pedal free because an amp I bought had a broken reverb and they gave me this for my trouble. At first, I was skeptical, but when I playe it...I knew.

I'm using this with a G&L Legacy and a vintage Carvin tube amp. The sounds are amazing for the price of the unit. I'm extremely anal about my tone, and I was hell bent on getting a delay/echo that didn't have that nasty, metallic, digital sound. I did alot of research and played alot of delay pedals before deciding on this one. It has a very warm, analog sound. The echo feature seems to be a favorite among other reviewers (as it well should), but the delay sounds are also excellent. I didn't notice any problems with noise at all.

About as simple as you would expect from a mono pedal with three knobs(delay time, repeat, and level). It also has a switch to choose the delay or the echo mode, and a slider to select the range of the repeats in milliseconds. Pretty basic as far as delays/echo go. I don't even think I cracked the manuel open.

I record direct into a a mackie mixer connected to a tascam 4 track( demos). I use a no-name strat copy and my effects go : korg tone booster->Boss Dimension-c->zoom505->DE7->zoom choir->mixer. The pedal is a little noisy if the level is maxed out, but not overly so. The delay mode is pretty standard, but what makes the pedal for me is the echo mode which is a little muddy and if you crank up the repeat and level knobs you can get some "wall of sound/infinate feedback" type sounds that are good if you are into bands like cocteau twins, my bloody valentine, slow dive, etc. If these names are foreign to you then Im not sure if this pedal is a match for you or not. I have delay in some of my other pedals, but it was the ability of this pedal to produce this feedback/wall of sound that I bought it for.

I have had no problems with it. It seems rugged. The control knobs have a feature so you can set them and then push them down so that they are locked away so you cant hit or change them without bringing them back up. Pretty simple. 3 knobs (delay level, delay time, and repeat) and 2 switches (delay time range and delay/echo) switches. As with most delays, it can be a bit difficult dialing in the exact delay time you want, but, hey, what do you expect for such a big time range over 3/4 of a turn?

Great sound. Noise is there, but minimal. Sounds a bit farty if you overdrive its input...Then again, so does any other digital pedal. The delay is probably the best non-rackmount digital delay I've heard, and you can go between clean, crisp delays and warm, mushy, almost tape-like repeats with the delay/echo switch. You can pull anything out of this from sublte reverb to ridiculous noise-making feedback to warm, haunting Floydian delays, slap echoes, really long delays (2.6 seconds max), and pretty much everything else one could hope to expect from 3 knobs and 2 switches.

I really don'tthink this is one of the most important things to rate whether you should buy a pedal or not but I guess some people do, so here it goes. Easy to use if you know what the knobs mean. One for number of delays one for time between delays (or repeats) and the level that controls the level of the repeats only, not the level of what you actually play through the box. Adjust between the three delay "sections" to get the spaces in your sound you want then fine tune it with everythng else. The delay/Echo switch just gives it another flavor. I'll talk about those flavors in the sound part. Read on.

Sound quality rocks. The reason I got this was because all of the boss delays (DD-3,DD-5,RV-3) had that harsh top end that rang with microphonics through my amp which has a good amount of treble on it. If you play a les paul it wont matter but this is still awesome with an LP. The delay setting is really clear and probably better with distorted sounds and certain Overdrive sounds. The echo setting sounds better to me with clean stuff and that really warm growly Overdrive stuff beause the setting itself is warmer. The pedal in general (delay AND echo settings) sounds more natural and less processed than any of the Boss delays. In short, the best delay I've ever played (I've played many) and also the echo side is cool, I use it more than the delay side. This pedal just makes your guitar sound huge.

Trust me the green paint doesnt make it "warmer" or anything.

This pedal is awesome. I would buy another one if this one was lost or whatever. This awesome for slow distorted solos (Pearl Jam or Slash) and it makes your guitar sound good, not you, what a pedal should do.
You might think of it this way if it helps you understand, this is like a tubescreamer or something really warm and natural and a boss is like the distortion on a 10 watt practice amp. Or how about this.... This pedal sounds like a sizzling steak (sizzling doesn't mean trebly) and the boss delays sound like cold dead fish. If you don't know about steak or distortion your a girl, and if your a girl, I don't know what to tell you, just buy it.
You might want a boss because EVERYBODY has one, but to tell you the truth, %80 of the boss stuff I have owned or played through abolutely sucks. The Metal Zone is the worst anything pedal I have ever played yet it's their best selling pedal. It was made for kids who play slipknot songs with their Ibanez' in their basement through their Peavey 15 watt solid state amps.

Wow, this is certainly one gem of a delay pedal. I went to the store back in May of 2000 or so wanting to try it out not really expecting to buy anything. When I plugged it in I immediately noticed the warmth from it which radiated the entire room. Everything I played sounded so lush and beautiful..I was hooked and forked over the $70.00 (it was on sale). I play mostly indie rock stuff very slow kind of stuff like mogwai its definitely a prereq to have something of this nature in the music. My equipment is a Fender American Strat (96) into a Marshall JCM 2000 (100 watt) w/ a JCM 900 1960A 4X12 cabinet. I also use other effects in combination with it such as: a boss dd-5, boss ph-3, and a boss DM-3 as well as an ebow. I really can't say enough about what a great pedal this is especially for the money. I like the sound of my DD-5 but this one seems to hold the notes a lot cleaner.

My setup goes as follows: Ibanez->Crybaby Wah->(DOD)VGS50 multi-effects processor->Danelectro DaddyO->Ibanez DE-7. It's not noisy at all. The sound starts to get weak when the batteries are running a little low, but that's why I got a power supply which is VERY helpful. Think of any song that has delay and you can get it. The millesecond dial goes from 30 ms-2600 ms (switch a:30-160, switch b:120-650, switch c:480-2600) There is another switch for either echo or delay. I can use the pedal on every effect that I have w/out any problems.

Not to hard to get good sounds at all. Its got three knobs and 2 switches. A knob for Time, Repeats, and Level. Switches for min and max time, and mode selection (echo or delay). No firmware, No patches, No 30 page manual. Delays are really self explanatory so you don't really need a manual, but the provided one will explain everything quite nicely. One thing though...Because it is a pedal switching delay times on the fly can be tough. However...if you didn't this would be hard, with a pedal, with knobs that are recessed into the pedal, when you bought it, please come down to my house so I can beat you with a hammer!

I use this as the first effect in the effects loop chain of my Boogie Triaxis. I also have a Boss GT-3 as my main source of effects and delays. I use the DE-7 mainly for 400 ms delays and other bizarre sounds. Try twisting the repeat knob all the way up in echo mode and play with the Time knob but be careful, you might take off. Like I said, I use 400 ms delay times a lot. I know exactly where it is on the time knob so I can always go right back to it if i have to. Its not to noisy from what I can tell, except when I make it noisy. I can get my pink floyd sounds in a snap. The delay mode is good for more modern floyd but the echo mode is so great for their older stuff (think Echoes)(duh). In the long run I'd probably opt for a TC-2290 delay like Dave Gilmour has but I can't make my funny noises with that, I'd still need this pedal (Remember a Saucerful of Secrets?)!

I'm one of those guys who likes to use delay as another guitar much like Dave Gilmour and Wes Borland. This is a fairly quiet piece of gear and it sounds good. The switchable delay-time range is very helpul and makes setting the right delay time a snap. Another plus is a relatively long delay time (2.6). One complaint: when the output jack is connected and the input jack is disconnected, a high pitch feedback can be heard (the bucket brigade chip clock?). However, once the input jack is inserted the noise disapears.
Bottom line-well worth the money!

This is the new line of Ibanez effects that replace the soundtanks.
This delay costs under $100.00 and to me sounds like it. To me,the Echo(analog sound) sounds the best clean. The Delay(digital sound)
sounds the best with high gain. I have noticed a SLIGHT loss of volume
when this box is stomped on. However, using quality patch cords helped this. This Delay can use three different a/c adapters. I have the ac309(10volt!) which to my ears makes the repeats a little better quality sounding than the ac109(9 volt). This will eat 9 volt batteries for lunch!

If your amp has a good effects loop, this Delay will sound better than playing it in front of your amp. It's not a bad box for under $100.00. It's fairly transparent(better than the Dan Echo). Maybe not quite as good as the Boss dd-3(not as expensive either!) Try one and decide for yourself. I still like the Echo(analog sound) the best! Which is what I started with 22 years ago!

I'm giving this a lower rating since, for some reason, the Tone-Lok series is a bit tempermental about switching on and off. About 30% of the time, the unit will fail to switch appropriately when the pedal is depressed.
Other than that, things are pretty fool-proof. It has three knobs: Delay Time, Feedback, and Level; it has two switches as well -- one for setting the delay time range (controlled by the pot), and another that selects between analog and digital sound qualities.
Would've got a 10 here, if not for that disconcerting switching anomaly.

I'm using this with a single coil Strat into a Fender Showman 85 watt head powering an Acoustic (it's actually pretty decent) 6 x 10 cabinet.. in case that matters to you.
It's a bit odd that I'm actually giving this an eight. It's a bit noisier than some higher-end delay pedals, and it certainly isn't true bypass (tone degradation is somewhat audible when plugged into the chain, even when off.. if you care about that sort of thing).
However, I've found the delay itself to be quite usable. The analog simulator is especially nice. It doesn't necessarily excel at simulation, per se, but it is very musical nonetheless. The signal can get quite clipped as you play harder, but I welcome that.
The nice thing about this pedal is that the effect always feels extremely controllable, in a good way -- it allows you to play off it's own dynamics nicely. The delay time can be set to inordinate lengths without generating the feedback that is normally inherent in true analog pedals of this size. This allows for some really lush cascades of delay/noise, with and eerie lilting quality to the subsequent repeats. However, if it's feedback that you so desire, this pedal allows more discrete control over the rate, range, and pitch of tape feedback making it, again, very musical.
Keep in mind that this pedal has a very dirty tonal quality, and it may not be for everyone.

Hmm... it's a little dubious here. It's housed in a metal casing but, oddly enough, it still seems a little flimsy.. not sure why. The knobs are cheap plastic (as opposed to BOSS pedals, which are more medium-duty plastic) which is a little disconcerting.
I think the unit would probably hold up okay, but I'm giving it a lower rating because I haven't really had it long enough to reply otherwise. The Ins/Out seem a bit frail - quite similar to the RockTek/Arion pedals, but perhaps a little more study.

I've been playing for about ten or so years now. The music I listen to more regularly ranges from My Bloody Valentine to Polvo to Aphex Twin to Radiohead to the Cure to Grandmaster Flash to Built to Spill to Sonic Youth and so on.
Shortly after buying this pedal, I considered purchasing a BOSS DM-2 or and Ibanez AD-9, strictly for quality reasons, and for wanting more of an "authentic" analog delay sound. As I've thought about it though, I almost appreciate the fact that it's not 100% "authentic". I like that it has its own personal idiosyncracies. I like that it responds to your playing more uniquely than the analog competition. I like that it can simulate the longer, deeper analog delays that are impossible to attain in the small stompbox originals. I like that, overall, it's easier to control than most analog delays (and most analog delay simulators, for that matter). All of this contributes heavily to the unit's overall musicality.
My main complaint is the component quality. I'd pay $100 more for better components, less questionable housing, and true bypass. But for the price - you can't really beat it. Not yet, at least.

Doesn't get any easier, especially for a delay. Plug right in and go...pretty self-explanatory. The "set & forget" push-in knobs are a great idea.

My setup--stock American Std Telecaster & Lone Star Stratocaster, Mesa Boogie DC5, pedals include Cry Baby Wah, Boss CE-3 Compressor, Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, Boss PH-2 Phaser, all powered by the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power (an excellent, quiet power supply!). This Ibanez delay is very quiet. It sounds better than the beat up old Ibanez DD10 I'm replacing because it craps out on me in live situations. The "echo" settings are for vintage-type Echoplex style echos; fantastic for that old Floyd vibe. The sound is unusually warm and wholesome for a pedal in this price range.

I've only had it for a week and will start a round of gigs with it in a few days. This thing is built like a tank. I sincerely hope the push knobs last (they probably will). No backups necessary. If it turns out to be a piece o' crud, I'll write a revised review at a later date, but it strikes me as even more durable than my Boss pedals for now. Impressive.

This is the best, most versatile delay for the money. Great for live playing, probably is quiet enough to use for digital or analog home recording. My last Ibanez delay was good, lasted through 15 years of steady use before acting up. I believe this new DE-7 cost less than what I paid for the other, is more solidly built, and sounds better. Only time will tell if this thing will really hold up to the (ab)use I will unleash upon it; and I have a sneaking suspicion that this unit will take a beating and keep on echoing with no difficulty whatsoever.
This new series of pedals blows those lame Sound Tanks away...it sounds good and adds to my music in a positive way, has great flexibility and features while still keeping it simple. This one's a keeper.

Great! A simple pedal that gives you an awesome sound. There are 3 knobs: Delay (of the Echo or delay), repeat, and level. And the neat thing about this pedal is...that the knobs can be pushed inside the pedal so they don't get moved around during a gig or a practice. So, you can set it, and forget it.

The pedal has a great sound and it's not noisy at all. The delay and echo sound very nice and crisp. The echo mixes well with clean palm muting. My current set-up is:Cry-baby 535Q,DS-1,Tech 21 XXL,Rocktron Rampage,Danelectro Daddy-O,Ibanez DE-7,BOSS BF-2,Danelectro Cool Cat,Danelectro Tuner. Then for my guitar, I use a Peavey Predator with a Rage 158.

This thing is as rugged as they come. It's very sturdy and reliable. It's basically a little stronger than a BOSS. Very Durable. And for gigging, I wouldn't use a back-up. I am not sure about the battery life because I just got it, but I think it would last a while.

Overall, this pedal is awesome. I have so many riffs I can use it on as well as solos. I play mostly Creed, Godsmack, and Limp Bizket stuff, and I know for a fact that Wes Borland uses a echo pedal for a lot of his riffs. If it were stolen, I would definately buy another one. This pedal is going to see some wear! But before you buy, try it out. It may not be your style. Otherwise....enjoy!
