Takes some playing around with. Control-wise, it's like the FL-9 but with the D-time adjuster knob in the middle. The FL-9 had a fine-tune pot for that (1 of 3)inside the pedal. To my great suprise, this one also has 3 fine-tune pots inside too! I am scared to touch them because this thing is wild as it is.
No manual -- I'll live!

DFL ROCKS MY SOCKS!!!!
DEFINITELY LIVES UP TO THE HYPE!!!
I know analog is popular, but this thing is just plain awesome. My FL-9 is subtle and 'organic' but this thing has a character of its own. It doesn't compare to anything I have ever tried, and I have tried a lot of Fangers. I absolutely love the D-Time 'L' setting (16ms)..it gives me I wild reverb/delay sound.. think the Rage cover of 'I'm Housing'

It's 22 years old, and holding up very well. It sounds like it should, knobs are in tact and the pots are not scratchy--- What more could I ask for?

I don't think Ibanez even remembers making these pedals. If they did they would be smart and reissue them!!!!!

I play all a variety of music styles.... obviously some rage, but also a lot of blues, jazz/fusion, and 90's style rock. I use Strats and Teles through a Jcm 900, Fender Blues Deluxe, and a Peavey CLassic 30. If I had the money --and if I could find more of these--- I would buy one for every room of my house!!!
It definitely assists in the creative process too. Well worth the seemingly high ebay price I paid.

Well there's a lot of knobs on this pedal for just a flanger, and the guy i bought it from didn't have the manual for it. Since i had many flangers before i don't really have a problem getting a good sound from it, but i would really like to read the manual for it. If anyone knows if it's to be found on the net somewhere, please e-mail me (mrtngzn@hotmail.com) thank you...

Wow, it really DOES live up to the hype... Having used only multi-effect
(Digitech,Korg) and Boss flangers this thing really shines out for metal. The Boss
BF-3 flanger i was using recently did not just add a effect to my sound, it totally morphed my distorted sound from a beautiful warm organic Gibson LP custom through a Diezel VH4 pure tube guitar sound into a highly processed Nintendo computer sound, though it sounds great on clean stuff or acoustic. The Ibanez DFL is very transparent, you can hear so well this is the flanger Tom Morello used, especially on the 1st R.A.T.M. album, it works GREAT on distorted sounds, best flanger i have heard so far. It does fart out a little some times when you are really shredding, but that's actually kinda cool... i like raw sound... i haven't noticed any noise or tone loss when bypassed, but it will go on my pedalboard through a true bypass loooper anywayz...

Well i don't exactly know how old it is, but it works perfectly for a mid '80's pedal, i hope it holds up another 20 years at least, because they are getting pretty rare these days... give it a 9 because it should be at least 15-20 years old. The former owner did take good care of it, there's not even a scratch on the paint. Only the orange sticker with the Ibanez DFL logo is missing (probably removed for cosmetic reasons?!?!?)

I never thought i would actually find one of these here in the Netherlands, was looking for one for 3 years now. And then for such a ridiculous price... (the guy that sold it to me didn't have a clue about the value for this thing, and i didn't feel the need to tell him....) And that in the same week i found a mint Boss dc-2 for only 30 euro's.... (I am so happy now....) This pedal is GREAT for the metalbands i play in. I also play in a alternative rockband, i won't be using it much for that probably, this pedal just sounds METAL, for clean stuff, i'd probably prefer the Boss BF-3 which sounds more "atmospheric" to my ears. I've been playing for 14 years now, and have been collecting alot of vintage pedals over the years, sometimes i really didn't understand the hype about some of them, but this one really gives you bang for the buck... Find one... Don't let the ugly green paint and even uglier orange knobs and sticker scare you...

There's a lot of knobs here, so it's not too easy to dial in an exact setting, but anywhere you leave it is likely to be a good place ! It's good that is so tweakable as it gives up many variation, but it is not a set-and-forget type of device.

I am using it with other pedals (depending on how I feel that day). I generally go for a clean to OD to rippy sound with various modulations, delays, or tone shifts in-between. The DFL is really, really great. Another sleeper pedal that can deliver lots of Flangey varaitions. It can copy ADA type of sounds, or sound like an analog FL9 but it can do things that few other Flangers can, maybe due to it's digital architecture, I dunno. It is definitely not true-bypass, but is not very intrusive as well. If you are a stickler about this, use it with a TB box. Does Flanging, chorusing, vibrato with ease. I'd say if you cant afford an ADA, try this one out.

I bought it at a gtr show. It is my go-to effect for Flanger sounds. I also have a Boss Hi-Band Flanger and Ibz Swell Flanger, which are equally recommended, but the DFL is a little cooler and different. I'd give it a 10, but I try not to do this here as I feel that 10 is a little extreme for most anything. SO, this may equate to a 10 in other reviews. I really like this pedal.

Here is my setup:
Guitar-Dunlop Orig Crybaby-Digitech Whammy 4 (Reissue)-Boss DD-5 Delay- IBANEZ DFL-amp
The sound quality is great...when you switch it on or off there is no noise or clicks or anything like that (I dont know if its a "True bypass" switch or not but I dont hear a thing when it is turned on or off) I orig. got it because I wanted to get a flanger and because Tom Morello has one. I can get the same sounds he uses with it. then after I got over my Morello phase I soon realized that this has to be the most versitile flanger you can get... I can get chorus sounds out of it, jet plane whooshes...and if your turn all the controls to the far right you get wicked synth type sounds. I have played with the boss flanger, and it sounds a million times better. Not that the boss is bad, I was actually gonna buy the boss, but I went into a local music store one day to look at guitars and noticed that they had a brand new old stock DLF. What Luck! I bought that instead and have no regrets. Every person that I know (or have read about) that has used a DFL thinks its the best pedal flanger they have ever used, hands down.

Other then the ugly green color it can hold up, I dont gig so that wouldnt be a problem for me. I guess its reliable if Tom Morello has used the same one for every gig/record since he got it, back in 86.

Ultimatly, if you want the best Flanger get the DFL. Yes its hard to come by, but if you find one GET IT! if your looking for a flanger that is very tweakable then get this one. It can get any sound your are looking for, (and a bunch you never thought of!)

I am not familiar with flangers so I had to tinker with it. I am not yet a master of the pedal, I am sure there are people that would have no problem but the amount of sounds you can get out of this pedal is kind of overwhelming for me. I think it is pretty complicated for a little stomp box.

I use a les paul custom and a strat. The pedal can be heard at even low volumes through my speakers when it is turned off, which is kind of a pain. The effect cuts through anything including my stupid band. I bought this pedal because Tom Morello has one but I can't do any of the things he does with it so forget about it. (you know who you are!) Another thing that sucks about it is that if you hit a power chord to hard the DFL makes a farting noise. I would guess this is a result of it's digital tracking. BUT this pedal is still very cool and you can find good sounds that are very useable. I would advise you buy one if you see it for a decent price.

Five knobs - Four like a regular flanger (level, regeneration, delay, and width) and an additional three way knob to select delay time ranges (0.5ms up to 17ms). I'm convinced this pedal is incapable of bad sounds; by far it's the best flanger I've stepped on to date.

Used in the effects loop of my `82 Fender Concert. This one does everything from metallic resonant sounds through the fabled jet plane whoosh. It's digital, and like most digital effects, digital=dead quiet.

Part of the Performance series, circa 1985-1986. Like all the other Performance and Power series pedals, there is the future possibility of I/O & AC jack problems (since they're soldered directly to the board). I've also heard stories of switch problems on this design. No problems so far.

Oh, it's good. It's very good. The worst aspect of this pedal is the color scheme (light green metallic with orange top knobs & front sticker?). It's almost funny, I ditched my rack in favor of analog pedals, and then I get this one (which is very obviously not analog) and I enjoy it alot more than my analog flangers. "Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony."

This pedal sound's awesome. Depeding on whichmode you have it on (s,m or l) it sound's different. This pedal on the s mode kinda sound's like a flange/phase. It's a real deep sound'ing wooshy sound. the higher you have the d-mode(m or l) it sound's more like that real heavy jet flange sound. Very versatile. you can get real cool phase/flange sweep's or jet sounding heavyness. The sound is excellent

This isn't one of those plastic sound tank jobbies. This pedal made out of metal and has a really cool battery hatch that spring's up. It look and feel's sterdy. The pedal hgas plastic knob's which lok a bit flimsy but on closer inspection are quite sterdy. Not even godzilla himself could stomp this baby to death.

I paid $95(australian) buck's for this, it's one excellent value. I play this through a big muff and a les paul. Sound's awesome. It has a huge sweep almost space invader like.I've heard the boss flanger but this kick it's ass. Sound's excellent for doing solo's and crunch sweep's . Almost phase in the sound on some mode's . Ibanez stopped making these pedal's a few year's ago.(this one's made in japan)I'd buy it again . Definately worth getting if you can find one. Get it dude's
