Ibanez OT10 Octave

Using octave pedals, different results will appear with different pickups, the attack, position, etc. Technique is important in getting it to sound the way you want (glitchy or smooth). The operation is simple though. The octave, the dry signal, and the "Edge" which gives it an almost ring modulator-ish overdrive character.

For guitar, i run it right before a Muffy-type fuzz. It sounds really synthetic and pretty cool. Great for groovey solos. Sometimes i turn off the octave and dry and just use the edge to do ring mod stuff.

But the best use i have for it is running it before a fuzz using my cheap Yamaha keyboard. i use a "Thick Lead" setting and it has a lot of dirty, old-synth character. of course if you play more than one note at a time (other than octaves and sometimes 5ths), you get screaming noise. pretty cool for waking up the neighbors cats.

Most 10 Series pedals i have hold up pretty well. the switching is a little loose but 98/100 it works just fine.

I learned to hold off doing reviews till months later, so i can be more objective. i'm really happy about this pedal though. playing stuff like the Blood Brothers and the Faint are more fun using this pedal. i haven't tried other octave pedals, but the edge feature attracted me. and the price was good. they're just a little hard to find.

Really easy to use, 3 knobs and a switch. No clue about how the manual is since I don't have one, bought this used.

It's a bit noisy, mostly noticable when you're not playing... The effect sounds great and different than other Octave I tried... I'd say it's more industrial sounding, you can do weirder things with this. It tracks better than the Boss(at least to me) it doesn't track well with chords but besides Eventide stuff what pitch effect does really, mostly in a pedal format! It's also different than using a Digitech whammy II which I own one of. The 3 knobs are Effect/Edge/Dry, the Effect controls teh amount of lowere octave you want in, the edge controls some sort of "synthy distorted tone" hard to describe let's just say it got iyts character, and teh dry controls how much of the original guitar(or other instrument) signal you want in...

Well it's not really new, and it's still working, I woudl gig with it if I needed to.

Ibanez support about older effects isn't the best in the world.. we'll see after their history book comes out if they show more interest.

I play all style fo music, mostly blues, rock and hardrock. But I write my own stuff for my own fun. I've been playing since 89. I really love the character of this effect, there's nothing that sounds like it. The only thing I hate is teh noise when I'm not playing... but this isn't a permanent pedal in my setup so it's ok. I use it when I feel like it or need the sound it can provide to a recording. I got it because I "collect" Ibanez pedals, I use them also... I was really curious about this OT-10 and I'm happy with it, I like pedals that have their own character... this one is a keeper for me because of this. It's kind of hard to figure out how to make this pedal sound good. "Effect" adds in one octave lower to the sound, "Edge" adds an octave up, and "Dry" mixes the processed signal with the unprocessed signal. A friend gave me this one because he just didn't dig that type of effect. This pedal isn't a clean octave by any means...it is a little fuzzy, but if you set it just right it sounds really cool by itself. The nice sound comes out when you throw a fuzz or distortion pedal in front of it...(overdrives do nicely also). So it's kind of hard to figure all that out, but once you do you'll want to play through it all day!

Like I stated before, it's up to you tweaking it for the type of sound you want. I really dig it. To give you an example of the sound this one captures listen the Hendrix's Purple Haze solo. That's the sound of this pedal with a nice fuzzface in front of it. Hard to believe, I know. It's all in how you set it. To get that sound I have the fuzz set for a really smooth fuzzy sound then set the OT10 after it Effect=1, Edge=7 and Dry=3. this should get you a starting point for your setup anyway.

Do get a really neat almost synth type sound this is a cheap way to go. Since it doesn't have fuzz built into the pedal most people pick it up try it and put it back down. they just don't have a good idea of how to apply it, that's all. So...it's underated. I love it. My buddy, Jeff, don't understand why I like it so much...but he's got Clapton in his heart while Jimi stays in mine.

Still messing around with it... three knobs labelled Effect, Bite, Dry. Bite controls the tone of the pedal, adding high end and a touch more overdrive to the octave effect. Effect and Dry are adjusted to get the right amount of octave effect mixed with the input signal. Not the most difficult but considering that it only has three knobs it takes getting used to.

This pedal needs to be placed in front of an amp instead of in an effects loop. It does add a touch of overdrive to the signal, but it's not noisy. The octave effect itself is very nice, but since this is my first octave pedal I can't compare it to anything else. I was able to nail the sound that Neil Young got on "Out of the Blue, Into the Black" from Rust Never Sleeps.

Ibanez 10 series - possible stomp switch problems, input jacks could get loose, LED might go intermittent. So far this pedal is fine.

Haven't called about this one yet. Anyone have a photocopy of a manual? I could definitely use it.

I love it. The OT10 can be a little challenging to find they're out there. To the best of my knowledge Ibanez didn't make any other octave pedals in their history; Maxon did a good job with this. If it was lost or stolen, I'd hate the world until I found another.
