Very easy-3 knobs.Gain,Tone, and Volume. Also ts9 mode to hot mode(a switch.)No need for a manual.A monkey could figure it out.I gave this a 9 because the battery compartment was kind of hard to find.

My set-up is:Ibanez gax-30/digitech rp50/tube screamer/arion mm-1/boss ds-1/epiphone 15 watt. Not avery "noisy" pedal,if you will.Only on hot mode is it a little gainy(only word i could come up with),for my tastes.I play rock, blues, and a little bit of everything. The pedal sounds great with all types of music.I usally have it set:drive/7'o clock,tone/10'o clock, level/7'o clock and ALWAYS on ts-9 mode. This pedal sounds great with some reverb and a little phaser. It is SWEET!!!

My main guitar is a Fender Telecaster with seymour duncan 59 Neck humcucker, wired series/parallel and my second guitar is an Epiphone LP Standard, then to a BOSS Flanger, Crybaby Wah, MXR EQ, BOSS Blues Driver, and Ibanez Tubescreamer all into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.
On the "hot" setting its a bit noisy, but can't really complain. I use hot for lead, and TS9 for rythm. Although for rythm its a bit muddy, so I use the Blues Driver and EQ to pump up the highs a bit. Great full, midrange sound, and smooth distortion, exactly what I was looking for.

It seems pretty tough. Since I have other distortions that I can use, I wouldn't need a backup. The switch seems a bit flimsy, so I'll have to keep my eyes open on that. Doesn't seem to chew batteries as much as BOSS pedals.

I play soft rock, blues, modern rock, and classic rock, and this pedal works in each category. I've been playing for 6 years now, and I'm a gear hound, so I love buying new gear. Constantly looking for ways to improve my setup. This pedal will be in my line of effects, until I find something else that is just as good.
When I first was looking for a new overdrive, I tried the BOSS Super Overdrive, but it was dull, and not to punchy, so I tried this one and loved it.
The only thing I wish it had, is the tone starting at a higher frequency, and ending at a higher frequency. But thats what EQ's are for.

My main guitar is an MIA Strat Plus w/Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge, fender lace sensor gold in the middle, and Duncan JB jr. in the neck. I also use an Ibanez hollowbody from time to time. Amps are Peavey Classic 30 and a JCM800 combo. Here is where this one shines against other tubescreamers. It has the basic tubescreamer (tons of mids, light drive) but then with the hot mode it gets a lot more gain. This is how I use it. Gain at about 2 o clock tone at 12 o clock and level at about 3 o clock in the hot mode. Great thick lead tone, blends well with my amps, sounds great with the neck pickup. For rhythm though theres too much midrange for my tastes, sounds too nasally, but I knew that when I bought it and you should know that before you buy any tubescreamer...there are TONS of mids in these pedals!

Haven't had a problem with this unit, but I've had the DE7 delay (same series) and the switch crapped out on me, these switches are infamously bad, not complaining though, for $20 I get a great sound, and constructionally speaking you get what you pay for.

EBMM EVH or Steinberger spirit GT-Pro (seymour duncan JB) into MXR flanger into this baby into custom made Woogie 100/60 watt all tube head powering Marshall 8412 140 watt 4X12. On its own, the Woogie gives sensational rock tones and overdrive although, for me, just lacking in gain and intensity for searing leads. Enter the TS-7. I was sceptical! Trying it at the store saw high background noise, squealing feedback BUT the most natural overtones on lead notes I have ever heard. And this was at baby volumes on a solid state amp. Upon arrival at home and with the tubes nicely warmed up, I proceeded to play some tunes, come solo time with the settings as more of a signal boost than overdrive and my balls proceeded to quietly pack their bags and exit the country! This is without a doubt THE BEST thing to "supercharge" your tube amp. All of a sudden I had early VH on tap with all the wonderous harmonics, overtones and sensitivity previously reserved for those lucky buggers with their 60's marshalls. Sound quality - A+++++.
P.S. With my MXR flanger hooked up in front of it I nailed Unchained and aint talkin about love within 5 minutes of getting home! - AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Will keep an eye on the switch. My amp guy who built my amp might be able to refit the electronics into a sturdier box with a decent switch. If the switch failed while gigging, I shall pray to the man that it failed and locked the unit in the on position!!

I have owned this box now for 2 days, no problems so far. Only the most awesome display of overdriven, screaming lead tone I have ever heard since Van Halen went to Peavey. Whats really scary is that now, the awesome tone is actually coming from my rig! Note, this unit really lives up to it's name, it is most definitely more suitable for tube amps!
Have been playing for 13 years, owned some pretty shit stuff and the odd gems. Had a 5150 half stack, had to laden the sound with effects to get the VH brown sound (chorus, delay, reverb). My Woogie is a 2 channel monster, hand made, no fx loop, no reverb. Woogie + TS-7 = Tone, tone, tone, tone!!!!!!! Simply awesome. I have finally found my version of the 'brown sound'. I can now rest.
Would replace in a heartbeat if stolen.

Easy to use. One thing I want to share regarding something I learned about the switch.......You have got to keep a good, fresh, battery in the thing or the switch will wig out. It's not to say that it will always work perfectly but it most certainly will not work properly with a weak battery. I have two of them and I put a battery in my new one and after about 30 minutes the switch would not activate. I checked the battery and it was still good but not fresh. I switched batteries with my other TS-7 and it wouldn't work properly and the new one would. I went to Wal-Mart and bought new batteries and I keep the fresh and have had no more trouble. They do need to do something about that switch.

The sound quality is very good. I run two of these and a compressor in line into the FX loop of a GT-6. I play Strats and a Tele with Lace Sensors. Fender Hot Rod Deville 410. You have got to tweak everything so that it works together but I've been getting good sound out of it. I'm able use this as my main sound with the GT-6 in manual mode and I can add delay or chorus as needed. I still have the versatility to step on a couple of pedals and get someting entirely different. These do serve as my primary sound. It all sounds good in any amp that I've tried.

With the exception of the switch problems the thing is built like a Bradley. Because of the switch and the widespread problems I have to downgrade it.

I've got a few other things but I have had lots fo other stuff that I've sold. I would be interested in trying the Tube King but I like these things alot.

GOOD SOUND , IDENTICAL TO TS9.
This unit is better than all the soundtank serie. And for the money, very good building
Is an overdrive, and you need a good amp for appeciating this effect. The HOT model is not good.
You can use this effect to overdrive a good amp, or another distortion effect, like a DS-1 or DS-2. Sounds great!!!

Good tone. You have two options:the hot mode, modern and tight with full bass but noisier than the ts7 mode, mellow with lo-cut filter.
If your 'guitar' hums, the ts7 mode is for you since it increases(a lot) your signal without increasing hum. It is the very reason of lo-cut filters in boosters in fact. If your axe is humbucking this mode is still nice for clarity when boosting.
Tone is effective and never exagerated, so is the whole box in fact.

NoNoNo, not reliable. Good sound, switch sucks! It won't switch on, or off, you never know when. I mean it is a booster, so it must work perfectly(for lead phrases when rythming, and so on). Fault is the tiny platine-mounted switch in the battery case. I replaced it(lot of work) and installed a remote plug in the process so now I am very happy with the unit.

It was worth the trouble with the switch. What you have is a good booster with options and a good tone. Not noisy, especially for the price. I use only humbuckers, too much electro smog nowadays...
I don't care for blues(funny, isn't it?) and the ts-7 provides what I need to lead when I'm crunching.
In bypass mode(absolutely silent switching, without drops) you don't have the same sound as without the unit, you lose some crispness, if it was a color added it would be light grey, or slight fog.
I give it 8 but because of the switch problem I have no opinion, maybe your box works properly...

Before this pedal, I owned a Boss SD-1 and a Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde. I hated the Hyde side of the Visual Sound, so I sold it and looked for a pedal that would give me the Tubescreamer sound at a lower price. The TS-7 sounds very much like the 808 Jekyll side of the J&H at 1/4 of its price. I also prefer the Hot mode of the TS-7 over the overly scooped sound of the Hyde. Both are very useable and musical sounding. I'm running it through the OD channel of my Carvin Bel-Air amp, to add a boost for added saturation. I use it to get Marshally indie rock tone, similar to The Cancer Conspiracy and mewithoutYou. I preferred it over the Boss SD-1, because while the Boss had a little more grit and gain, the TS was just a lot smoother sounding which was what I was going for.

The switch is very questionable. You have to step on it a certain way in order to engage it, it's kind of tempermental, but once you get the hang of it, it's fine. The plastic casing is pretty cheap, but it should also be fine as long as you don't drop it or bang it around.

This is a ridiculous bargain for $25. If you are willing to compromise build quality for price, this is the way to go. It's still built pretty tough, not as tough as their "9" series or Boss pedals, but it won't fall apart. The locking feature is pretty cool as well to save your settings. This easily replaced my Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde, and I haven't looked back.

Surprisingly good quality for the price. I play an Ibanez RG550EX lefty (customised - DiMarzio Evo Bridge, Fred Neck) > Morley Bah Horsie 2 Wah > Ibanez TS7 > Boss CH-1 > Boogie Dual Rectifier/Marshall JCM 2000. It can get a little noisy at high volume, but I defy you to find an OD pedal which doesn't. I play with a sound similar to Gary Moore/Yngwie Malmsteen and this pedal nails both. For a reasonably highend intensive guitar I manage to get creamy Les Paul like tones when I stomp it on. TS9 setting is so close to the original it's hard to tell the difference. I'm not overly impressed by the Hot mode though - a tad in-your-face and brittle for my liking. Try rolling back the drive on TS9 mode through your amp's clean channel for some SRV style fiery Texan blues tones!

Great 70's overdrive tones. Rich, creamy, soft overdrive distortion.
If lost or stolen, I'd replace it. If I had a lost TS9, I'd replace it with a TS7. The TS9 seemst to be more "rugged", but sounds just as good.
