Very easy to use, my Lab could figure this one out. The tone lok idea is brilliant, you can "save" your best settings.

I love the overdrive from the TS-7, very smooth, BUT the mids are too much. I have to eq (fish and chips) to get the mid hump out of this baby. Nothing against mids but I play a Tele through a Peavey C30 and this is just too much.

I play in a cover band and this is my OD sound for classic rock, country etc. I love the smooth overdrive, the ts-7 brings out the best in tube amps. I wish it had a better eq on it, a bass/treble control. If it were stolen I would order the new Reverend Drivetrain II coming out in the fall.

I've been playing for ever and would have to say that the Ibanez TS-9 is the most grossly over-rated pedal ever. The TS-7 is a cheaper immitation of it with a bum switch. If someone stole it, they'd be upset that they wasted their effort and it would save me the trouble of discarding it.

This is basically to revamp a review I did on 7/7/02. Turns out the HUM I complained about did not come from the TS7. At the same time I got the ts7, I purchased a Behringer Ultrawave B300 powered speaker for playing out, running everything through it. There was a gremlin of a ground short on the input jack of the B300. Probably a cold solder joint. As gravity pulled the cord down, the hum increased until it was Flash Gordon, 1938. It first appeared through the TS7 because of the preamp in the unit. Had to set things straight. I upgraded to a ts9dx, and probably did not have to. Ibanez is still way ahead of the game when it comes to overdrive units. You want distortion, get something else. You want smooth overdrive, go Ibanez ts7, ts9. I've bought Ibanez since the early 80s, and am still a very satisfied customer. Will probably never mess with anything from Behringer again. Too bad Ibanez is not in the bang for buck powered p.a. speaker game.

SAVE YOUR MONEY !!!! and buy a TS9 reissue (have it modified to ts808 specs or not,it is up to you...) or look around and buy a TS10 or a TS5 from th '90s,you can still find them cheap! That thing is useless ,eats up your sound and shouldn t be called a tube screamer!!!! i have used those with my strats since the '80s and i know what it should sound like, don't get fooled by the name!!!!!!

each people have different taste, so what i say good.. doesn't always sound good to others....
gear i use : fender left hand am std strat => Cry baby wah => TS7 => Ts-9 => Big Muff => Boss GE 7 equalizer => Zoom 505 II (for Noise reduction, delay, chorus and any fun stuff) => washburn bad dog amps
the sound of this baby is as great as my Ts-9, screaming overdrive, bluesy SRV and buddy guy, to Grungy pearl jam stuff.
Objectively, this TS 7 is equally match the TS 9, but due to legendary and age, the TS 9 got better valued by other.
if you don't have enough money to buy old TS 9 go to this TS 7, it won't dissappoint you...this baby is suitable for classic rock, rock, and bluesy stuff, BUT NOT METAL !!!...if you're into High gaing and heavy-fuzz-distortion, better look elsewhere, cuz this baby only give you heavenly-crispy-and tasteful overdrive

Well, I'm split on this one. As with the older ts9, this lets the guitars basic sound come through, just adding that great overdrive. My complaint with this ts7 is the HUM. Even when not on the hot switch, there is a noticable hum. It is totally unusable, for me, in the hot switch mode, for the hum is then multiplied. It is bad enough in regular mode that I am taking it back and look for something else. It is the only pedal in the effects chain I currently use that stands out for its HUM.

I used the ts9 in the 80s. Had no idea it would become a, "classic." After laying off for over ten years, time to play again. When overdrive pedal time came, I did some reading and thought I'd look at Ibanez. The store did not have the ts9. They had the 7 and the 9dx. Just from putzing around a bit with the pedals at the store, I thought the 7 gave me more of what I was looking for. I knew that I took that chance of having to bring it back, simply because in a Guitar Center on the weekend, YOU CAN BARELY HEAR YOURSELF THINK, let alone give something an honest sound test. I do not remember my ts9 in the 80s having that hum. Don't believe it was there. On the bright side, it is less hassle to take it back to the store than to pack it up and ups it back to an online seller. If it didn't have that hum, I'd keep it. But it does, so I must try something else. Next stop, Digitech Hot Rod. Along with the ts9 I bought a Digitech Main Squeeze compressor and that baby is excellent. Ibanez is coasting. Wouldn't mind having my original ts9. I played it out and recorded with it. This ts7 has got to go. I've spent too much on nice sound equipment to allow Ibanez to trash the overall sound with the HUM.

well, These units are really easy to use. Three adjustable pots, Drive, Level and Tone. You really just have to be patient and find your own sound or whatever sound you are trying for. Will run off a standard nine volt battery or 9v center negative AC adapter. I have a powered board so I dont use batteries nor do I know how long a battery will last in it.

I am using this baby with Lefty am std. strat -> Ernie ball Volume Pedal -> cry baby 535q ->TS-7 -> Boss Metal Zone -> E.H Big muff -> BOss GE-7 equalizer -> Boss DD-3 -> Zoom 505 II (for Modulation and adding extra gain) -> Boss CH-1 -> thru Marshall JCM 2000, well it's not noisy, but there's some HUMMMM when turned on while hot whitch selected.
The Effect itself good when used with good Tube Amp, but you can't expect it legendary sound when using transistor or solid state amp.
well i play mostly Classic rock (Zep), U2, and Dream Theater-y stuff. i use it as main dist when play classic rock stuff, and it's great for playing solos with wah pedal.
Nu metallers...Keep away from this baby, tone lovers....go buy it.

I like this pedal alot! On it's own, it is a very good overdrive (running the gain gamut from slight sparkle to blistering crunch). I use it as a 4th channel on my amp. However, I am enjoying using this pedal on my 1st distortion channel. I use it as a boost/bright switch on my OD1 channel, and it adds a lot of sweet compression, sustain, and it smooths and evens out the tone. It really sounds good! By the way, my setup is an Ibanez SA-160 with Seymour Duncan Pickups -> Dunlop Crybaby 535Q -> TS-7 -> Marshal AVT100.

Here's the deal: I own an old TS10 with the "good" JRD4558D chip in it. This new TS7 has the reissue 4558 chip in it. Some people say this doesn't sound the same. I put both pedals in a A-B footswitch and did some blind tests. I could duplicate everything on the TS10 with the TS7. You couldn't tell with your eyes closed. Try it. Don't wait more than 2-3 seconds between pedals, though, or your ears might forget. This is the secret to real comparisons. The new TS7 is spot on perfect in getting the sounds of the old TS10. Plus it gets more sounds at either extreme of the settings. And it's cheap and non collectible (i.e. less likely to get ripped off).

Blues and fake jazz. Been playing for 40 years. Own old strat, Ibanez as200, and frankenstein tele. Amps are silver face champs and new Hot Rod Deville 4x10. It sounds best with the tele thru a champ. This pedal is a wonderful utility pedal. I bought it to tear into, but it sounds so perfect, I'll just have to buy raw parts for experimentation. I'd never mess with it. Also, I am an electronic engineer by trade, so I am biased on the side of hard facts and data, rather than mystery and mojo.

Three knobs for drive, tone, and level. The mode switch gives you options between TS9 and "hot." Fairly simple. The manual came with it, but haven't used it much if at all. So far I'm getting out of it what I want.

I currently run this on a pedalboard that has a Morley Classic Wah-->Marshall Guv'Nor Plus-->TS7-->Marshall ED-1-->Ibanez DE7 into a Pignose G40V. The guitar I use varies, it might be a Epiphone Nighthawk, a Peavey Reactor, or a Cort CL-1500. I like the Cort since it's a semi-hollow body and it resonates, which creates a very full sound. The Epiphone, and Peavey have their own unique sounds which I like as well. The sound that I'm after is classic ZZ Top, and I get pretty close with the right settings. With the amp turned down, the sound gets real thick, and chalky, which is what I like. Kinda like that smoky nightclub at 3 in the morning, when the band is closing the place down. The compressor kinda helps the sound a little, but it primarily boosts the signal when I kick it on. I have seveal pedals that I've tried, and many get close to the sound that I want, this one is not much different. It does good though.

It's built pretty solid with a metal housing, not quite as tough as a Danelectro full size pedal, or a newer Marshall, but it's got some ass to it. I usually take more than one distortion pedal to a gig, so if this were to sh*t the bed on me, I'd have something else to fall back on. I haven't had it for very long, so I can't say exacly how it will perform under real use. Gonna find out.

I play mostly bass now, but when I can pick up the ol' six string, I play some classic rock, and some blues tunes. The pedal works good for the sound I like. It isn't perfect, but I honestly don't know what will give me that perfect tone, so I'l keep experimenting. I have several guitars, and pedals, and I keep mixing them up to find the elusive sound that I hear in my head. Still looking. Right now, I can't say that I'd buy this again, since there are many pedals out there that I haven't tried yet. The price was good, and the sound I heard when trying it out was tempting, but unless you have your amp, and guitar with you, you'll never re-create that sound. It sounds like other pedals at times, and then it seems to stand off by itself out of nowhere. It all depends on how the knobs get tweaked. I still have to sit down and spend a couple of hours just seeing what it can do.
