Pretty straight forward setup: guitar... volume pedal... Ibanez Tubescreamer (808 mod and almost always left on)... Maxon OD-9 pro+ (used for boosting solos)... a modded Boss TR-2... two DD-5s: one set for dotted eighths (number 9 on the mode knob) and one set for quarters notes--this is the one that I modded. Both delays are wired to the same tap tempo switch... Vox AC30 w/celestion blue and celestion g12h30
I'm a big fan of the DD-5 delay. I've been using them for about a little over a year now and they are excellent sounding delays and very flexible with the extra tap settings. They have the external tap input so you can use a non-latching boss switch. I bought a splitter and sent the same tap to make things easier. I decided that I wanted to try to mellow out the repeats on one of them so the delay blends in a bit more. It's an easy mod to reverse, so I thought I would try it. I chose the .22 value. It works very well! It is pretty subtle at that value, but it did take the edge off and the delay blends a lot more now. It doesn't make it sound that analog (analog delays have a bit of distortion in the repeat as well as a loss in the treble, so they sound a bit messier. This sounds clean still, but makes the delay a little less obvious so I can use it more subtly than I did before. Nice and simple mod. If you want a bit more obvious effect try the .47 value.

The mod will last if you do it right

I haven't dealt with them at all.

Overall Rating : 9
I learned to play guitar listening to U2 and so delay is pretty essential to the way I think about guitar. I've really fallen in love with the DD-5 and this mod is an excellent way to make an already good pedal a little more versatile. It's not a huge effect on the original sound unless you use a large value capacitor, but it works very well and it is very simple to do. I would probably do it again if I bought another one of these. If you need to make your DD-5 or DD-3 to sound less clear on the repeats, try this. It is cheap and it works very well.

Very easy to do and very effective! I like the Boss-DD5 as an affordable and versatile delay pedal. This simple mod does improve it considerably and is worth the money fo the DIY mod sheet.

Sound Quality : 9
This mod is effective on a DD5 and makes it more natural sounding. I tend to use the rightmost and second to rightmost delay type (right knob) with the delay (left knob)set to about 10-11 o'clock adn a little bit of feedback. The mod trims off some of the highs to make it sound a bit more natural. It's a good mod and easy to do. The connections are between the #4 and 6 solder points.

Reliability : 9
If you solder carefully, it is no problem. Make sure the tip is clean and tinned and use forceps or tweezers to hold the component while soldering (no need to burn fingers).

Great guy to work with and answers questions quickly and knowledgeably. He's got a very useful service for DIY'ers and I want to hear a CS-3 modded!

Overall Rating : 10
This mod is easy, simple, effective and costs very little including the instructions. Remember: you are paying for what he knows, not what he does! If you can figure it out and do it, fine. I prefer to play and leave geeky electronics stuff to those who want to explore it. It's not my preference, but I can solder! For the $$, this is a very good and very simple mod that gives a substantial improvement.

I did this off the indyguitarist DIY kit, and I found the kit pretty easy to use, and the DD5 mod fairly easy as well. The only difficulty is in taking apart and reassembling Boss pedals--there's a lot of stuff in a tiny space, so you have to be patient when doing the mod.

Sound Quality : 10
The mod, which pretty much consisted of soldering a capacitor on one of the lugs, cuts some of the treble frequencies, makes the pedal sound much more analog. The brittleness of traditional digital delay is gone, and while it doesn't sound 100% analog, it's a lot cheaper than buying a new pedal.

Reliability : 10
I trust my soldering skills and boss's quality. No problem here.

I had a question about the mod, and Brian answered them quickly via email.

Overall Rating : 10
I did a few other mods from the DIY kit, and they are all relatively easy and sound pretty good too. I can't remember what I paid, but I recommend the indyguitarist DIY kit.
