Ease of Use : 10
Easy to use , it is very versatile and has a wide range of distortion and Hi -Lo variables. So the guitar ,amp, pedal ballance is up to the players taste.

Sound Quality : 10
The original Ibanez DS-7 distortion is a grey metal Tone-Lok series
pedal. That was ok at best, they are not expensive about $40 new, $20-$30 used. It was lacking in it's clipping ( fuzz buzz distortion ) middle of the road and not edgy ,kind of sterile fuzz to it.
I found that using in front an Ibanez TS-9 DX Tubescreamer with the distortion way down was good. Kind of like a clean boost with a little crunch that put the tubescreamer on steroids. The DS-7 has some transparentcy which made it good for this application. By itself the DS-7 was not that great.
THE MOD
Brian at Indyguitarist did an excellent job of revoicing and tweaking this pedal. It is a different pedal really and stands on it's own . It is a real powerhouse of wonderful edgy interesting sounds. Great note articulation. The sustain is incredible.
I showed it to someone that played an Ibanez humbucker guitar through it into a little Peavey Blazer and was getting these awesome Jack White of White Stripes, Blue Orchid sounds out of it.
Sounds I hear from the modded stomp box are ,raw blues, ZZ Top, Jack White, Mick Taylor 70s Rolling Stone, From Honkytonk woman to Sympathy for the devil sounds.
The tonal range is very good , only 3 knobs (drive) (tone) (level)
Good bass and fantastic highs. The distortion drive goes from almost clean to off the hook. This pedal can really let it out and scream like a banshee if you like.

Reliability : 10
I have had the stock pedal for 2 years and no problems. I use a power supply. With batteries these type of pedals stop completely when the battery is weak. It may make some folks think the switch broken. Solution- stop wasting money on batteries and get a $12 power supply.

Customer Support : 10
Brian is a saint

Overall Rating : 10
Check with Indy for prices , He does the mod and offers a DIY, do it yourself kit with a clear picture instruction not difficult schematics. He may offer several versions of the DS-7 mod like one that will get that Brian May of Queen sound.
I play a raw sounding Swamp Blues Rock with finger slide and bluegrass hammering. I play mostly an Aria Pro II PE, A fine guitar and a Gibson Les Paul, they're finger pickin good. Amps, Peavey Classic 30 tube amp and Fender Studio 85 solid state.
The DS-7 modded is a winner, not harsh, no ice pick in the ear sound here. Fierce awesome edgy sounds and fine tonal qualities in a little box.
