Brian, you rule! It took a while for me to totally come around on the Mod but I could never go back to the stock sound. You have made the pedal an important part of my sound and I thank-you

Sound Quality : 10
The pedal finally sounds like it should have when Boss produced it way back in 1978.

Reliability : 10
It was produced in 1978 and still works great

A singer in a old band of mine gave me this pedal and at the time It was only good for a few things. Cutting through the mix with alot of treble was one on them. Since Brian's mod however I couldn't be happier as the pedal is no longer a one trick pony but a useful front end amp booster as well as an overdrive. Thanks again Brian you're the best. It is very easy to use once you decide how you would like to use it. Overdrive pedals have been used obviously for overdrive but can also be used as a booster for increased amp gain or a solo boost with the gain off and the volume maxed.I've also used them in my signal chain just to color other effects like a phaser because the sound is more pronounced with an overdrive or distortion effect before the phaser as opposed to using the phaser with the amp's overdrive/distortion.The main concern here is where do you put it in the chain to get the desired effect?

Since I had the pedal modified by Brian at www.indyguitarist.com it is a very usable pedal. I believe It is one of the original Boss OD-1 units which are the first compact pedals boss ever made. Before the mod I wasn't happy with how the bass would disapear regardless of my amp setting whenever the pedal was on. I sent the pedal to Brian With this info and he very generously fixed the problem and adjusted the overdrive for me for nothing! This guy went out of his way for me and I would Recommend anyone to check out his site.

Reliability : 10
Probably made anywhere from 1977 to early 80's and still going.

This pedal is great if you are having problems being heard in a band situation. It stands out regardless of what instruments are in the mix. The best use I have found for it is setting the overdrive a little past the break-up point and using it with extended chords that usually lack clarity with distorion. Think of Dean Deleo's sound in STP and that will help you get an idea. It is on the trebly side and I would definitely recommend the Mod I had done with Brian to introduce a little more bass into the equation. Not a be all end all deal but it's still growing on me and gains points as a specialty sound for live and recording.
