Ease of Use : 10
Not much to say, about as easy as it gets.

Sound Quality : 10
After the mod, the Rat will go from a barely overdriven sound almost like a Boss SD-1, all the way to an all out fuzzfest. Of course it can hit everything in between. With the filter knob, it just expands the possible sounds that are available. I haven't even scratched the surface of the sounds that this pedal can make, but what I've heard so far is outstanding.

Reliability : 9
I've only owned it for a few days, but it seems as rock solid as you can get.

Interesting story on this pedal. I bought it used off eBay and it was previously modded by Brian at Indyguitarist. After I bought it, I emailed him to see if he had any sound clips of the modded vs. stock pedal. He said he remembered that this particular pedal was the first Rat he modded, and he had come up with many updates and sound enhancements since then. He told me to mail him the pedal and he would update the mod for me for free. It doesn't get any better than that as far as customer service. I mailed him the pedal after I got it from the eBay seller and had it back very quickly. I will definitely deal with Indyguitarist in the future based on his customer service alone.

Just a great all around distortion pedal.

well, it's the standard rat pedal, so the controls are very straight forward. the mod is supposed to increase the range of the filter, but i didn't really find that to be the case.

Sound Quality : 3
i'm comparing this mod with the original rat. my set up is simple: gibson sg - boss tu2 tuner - rat - fuzzface - marshall superlead head/ custom 2x12. i really liked the original sound of my rat, but wished it had more bass response. i play heavy sabbath/neurosis/clutch type stuff,so i want heavy, thick distortion. this mod has increased the bass response but to the detriment of the tone - it's now much fuzzier and far less crunchy than the original rat, which despite having a bassier sound actually gives the pedal less low end crunch.i think the rat is simply a pedal which does what it does perfectly, and i was probably daft to try and improve it. i'll be returning the pedal to it's original state asap.

Reliability : 10
sure thing, it's a rat.

surprisingly, not great. when i received the mod kit i emailed brian at indyguitarist to ask a couple of questions, but didn't get a reply. he has a great reputation so other folk must have found him veryhelpful, but in my experience i have had better support from the likes of electro harmonix, keeley and even boss!!

overall, i have learnt a valuable lesson - if you are 95% happy with a pedal LEAVE IT ALONE!!! the mod definately didn't improve my rat, in fact the opposite is true. certainly the mod did what it was meant to, but as i have already said it just didnt improve the pedal one bit. still, it's easy to reverse so it's no big deal. but i would advise anyone against modding rats (i've heard keeley's mod is very similar, and equally unimpressive).
