This is an enhancer. Enhancer are quiet weird, if you don''t get it, but they make your sound more pronounced. this box is a two channel stereo enhancer, made for studio work. it is a five knob thing per channel. there's input level, drive, enhance, Q and output volume.
The input level determines how loud the signal you're working is. you should work alot with this one, becaurse to low means lot of noise and no effect, too much means again too much noise, and very unpleasant noises, and feedback. Drive controlls how crunchy the sound is. This is the knob for the metal heads, because here lies metal nirvana. Enhance controlls how much the signal will be enhanced. Q controlls how broad the frequence band will be affected by the enhancer. output volume is obivios.
It's really easy once you get it, but you really need to experiment first. thus the...

Sound Quality : 9
I have a peavey ultra 112, which for a while made me quit happy, but it lacked on very important feature:PRESENCE. I then tried different options and ended with the VC4. The VC4 gives me the punch and clarity to really cut through the sound barrier of my band. It's noisy at times, but not sensationel noisy. One extra feature on the VC4 enhancer, which sold me when I compared it against other typers of enhancers (like BBEs sonic maximizers, Aphex...), is the drive knob. You can with this knob maxout get the ultimate crunch out of every amp. It's not perfect. It could use some kind of noise reduction circut, but the sound and feel of this box is excelent.

Reliability : 10
yes. I have used it live for a year now, with out backup. Its a rack unit, so I don't really worry.

I play in an allround band (not top40), and I need different sounds. The VC4 is the perfect tool to get those sounds. It makes my playing cut thorugh, when it's needed. Sorry about the noise though
