Since you have only two knobs to deal with, it's not hard to get good sounds out of the doubler. It really depends on your guitar, where your guitar's volume knob is set, and your picking touch. I like mine best when the volume and fuzz knobs are below 5.

If you dig "Band of Gypsy" type octave effects, you love this pedal, because that's what it does.
I've used mine with a bunch of guitars, mostly single-coil and humbucker Andersons, with an OD100SHSE amp and matching 4x12 cab.

I've played rock guitar for almost 30 years. This pedal does what it's designed to do: give you an awesome octave effect. I'd definitely buy another if I needed to. I also own the small Megavibe.
I've had a bunch of octave effects, from vintage stuff to modern stuff, and this one sounds best to me. The only problem is that when I'm using the doubler a lot, I really want to crank my amp up, to get that whole Fillmore-esque experience going, and I'm afraid the chromosome damage is irreversible.

It's very easy to achieve the classic Hendrix/Beck octave sounds!
The doubler really stands out when you manipulate the guitar's volume and tone settings.The Doubler tracks better than most of the other
octave/fuzz pedals out there.

My main amp is a C.A.E. OD100 Classic but I also use a Marshall DSL50
and a modified Peavey Classic 30 for the smaller gigs.
The Doubler is set up last in my effects chain and it's really quiet
for a octave/fuzz pedal.
I use Strats most of the time but occasionally I'll grab my Les Paul for the Heavy stuff.My Strats are Loaded with Lindy Fralin pickups.
My favorite players are to many to mention but the guys that really
made me want to pick up the guitar are, Hendrix, Beck, Page and Halen.
To me the Doubler sounds great and it really captures that classic octave sound we all grew up with!

The Doubler is built like a tank and the parts KR Musical Products
uses are the best.
I really don't see the need for a back up.
The pedal has a Year warranty but it's built to last!

The Doubler does exactly what I want it to do, it has the classic octave up effect with quiet operation!
The fuzz is killer also, what more could I ask for?
