One switch - on and off.
The pedal has a weird curve, the last bit doesn't do anything. Most of the interesting filter effect happens in the first 30 % of the pedal's way.

Picks up noise quite easily.
Other than that, sounds very good, like a mix between a Maestro Fuzz Tone and a Fuzz Face. More gain, a bit more sustain. And weird octave effects on certain settings.

It's made of plastic (and looks like a 60's soap box). Still works, though...

This one's a mix between a fuzz and a low-pass filter. The pedal controls the frequency of the filter. It goes from very dark to very bright.
The fuzz itself is pretty ok, not insane sustain, but certainly more than a Maestro Fuzz Tone. Does NOT react to the tone knob. Can get (slight) subharmonics. On some settings, you can catch some surprising octave-up and slight ring-mod effects. I found them to be most prominent when turning the tone knob halfway down and using both pickups. YMMV

The slider switches which should not realy be used, are occasionally intermittent if they need cleaning. Better to add an external stomp switch which I have done. You could also easily add an external pedal to adjust tone pot. Mostly just clean up the plugs and play.

At various times played through Gibson GA20, reissue Ampeg Jet II and B25; old Washburn Wing Hawk w/ 2 HB's, strat '57 reissue, and a custom CooderCaster with a lapsteel. Interesting tones all around. Prefer the Coodercaster, and GA20 with this fuzz, excellant with Voodoo Micro Vibe. Just excellant good fuzz/octave sound.

These are OLD and originally cheap. Need cleaning and care. I have two-I have had one need some caps and resisters replaced by my amp guy. They come apart real easy to look at, fix or test. Mine are inside a plastic box with exterior stomp switch to avoid wear and tear.

The circuit does not match the one on the internet or even the schematic glued to the inside of the case on several values and componants. My amp tech spent a lot of time studying and diagramming the actual circuit. He was able to fix one of mine with little effort. He is still scratching his head on WHY it works like it does or why anyone would design it that way.

The Kay Fuzz is an great little effect to add a different sound to a mix in the studio or play around with. I have had more fun with these pedals (I have all four). Some of the fun was learning repair, and a little electronics, but the complex fuzz sound has been great to just play

It is pretty easy to use. The slider on/off near the top front end. A wah-wah style pedal. Made of solid ORANGE plastic with a flexible rubber bottom plate that you peel off to access the battery & innards.

I bought this item about 25 years ago fir $15 when I was first learning to play on my National $40 electric guitar and an 8 watt Lectrolab someone gave my brother. This pedal certainly has a cool personality although it is cheaply made and rather noisy it sounds good. I esp. like the fuz-wah combination you can get which sounds great for funk, hendrix rock, or real garage punk. It can get a muffled fuzz or a edgy distortion mostly rather thin and very gritty. It does get nice octave overtones but sometimes the overtones can conflict and tend to cancel out some other tones. It tends to work best on solo type stuff but can be used for stoccatto funk chords. It can create upredictable feedback and get pretty noisy depending on pickups and volume level you are playing at.

I have used it intermittently for about 25 years since I purchased it new from Grandpa Pidgeons outside of E. St. Louis. It has only broken once and that was just a battery wire on the 9 volt clip which I fixed easily. It was not made for live gigs and I don't think I would ever depend on it because of unpredictable noise & feedback it can cause. Also it can drain a 9 volt battery quickly if used a lot or left on and if so will stop working without warning. It is orange plastic & rubber and looks cheap and fun. It is what it looks like. A weird little fuz-wah that is cheap but it can produce some intersting sounds for jamming or recording.

IT is probably a rare item but that doesn't make it worth a lot. It does have sentimental value since, triggers flashback when I was a wee lad in the moldy basement of my parents home banging out shitty music at all hours with my best friend. If it were lost or stolen and I found another one for $15 I would definitely buy it. I might even pay $16.

I give it a 5 just because it uses a slide switch instead of a footswitch to bypass the effect, but otherwise, it's a simple pedal-style fuzz, where the pedal controls the tone of the fuzz. Plug in, plug out and fuzz away. No other controls.

When you're looking for a fuzz, quality is a very subjective term. It's fuzz tone is gnarly and screechy, much like an octavia or a superfuzz. It could be a little more gainy for my tastes (like a Tone Machine) but it's a pretty vibey fuzz as it is.

It's plastic. The wiring seems pretty precarious inside, but after about 25 years, it still works.

I love this orange plastic wonder. It's a vibey little box. Great for a wheezy studio track, but not quite meant for a full-out Big Muffy assault. It's an octave-fuzz, so it's not so easy to use if you're playing chords, but for solo stuff (think "Purple Haze") it's great. Check out Daniel Lanois' Sling Blade soundtrack. The song "Orange Kay" is this pedal. (heard in the scene where Carl reckons he should call a hearst...)

i bought a fender champ, and the guy thru this in since it wasn't working. it's a really neat effect. the rocked pedal varies the amount of low end. so you can get very thin tones, or thick fuzzed out sounds. the guitar player review of it said that the pedal caried the amount of high end, but my pedal is not that way.
