I did a pretty cool little mod to the ax1000g. instead of fumbling around with the expression pedal to trigger recording when using the sample and play feature. i created an individual stomp box to control the recording functions. i mounted a 5 pin jack on the rear panel, made a matching five pin control cable and put together a two pedal switch with one pedal for record, and one for play back. write me if you need more details.

It took a while before i could get the sounds i wanted. But after a week or so i was rocking!!

Sound Quality : 10
I am currently playing a LTD Explorer with EMG 81 and 89 in the neck through a Carlsboro Stingary 120w combo. I really like the Distortions because i can get just about any sound that i want! even all of Metallicas! its the cheapest rigg that ive ever had and got such good sounds! As for the Wah its sucks!! But the phaser is really good! ive had problems with the volumes on distortions and modulation sounds! The distorions is allot louder than the other effects! so a bit of tweaking is in place! i mostly play Metal/Hardrock so its the perfect unit for me! Ive had a couple of Boss units but their Distortions suck! Ill give it 10 because of the good Distortions but dont be fooled the other effects are all very good!

Reliability : 10
Ive never had problems yet! hoping i wont!
i never bring a backup because i trust this Metal-cased beast!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to contact them!

Like i said i play Metal mostly!
Ive been playing for 7 Years. I also have an Mesa/boogie V-Tvin Killer Preamp! and some Stompboxes!
If it was stolen id propably would buy a Triaxis! if i can afford one! or maybe the 1500G
When i bought it i tried a couple of Digitech and Boss. But neither the sounds or the pricing was close to this one!
This thing definetly helps me make music. With better sounds and functions you get inspired!

Anyone out there who would like to exchange patches Write to me!

i would use it without a backup. very dependable.....but watch out for those knobs man.....too much abuse and they snap difiicult to get the part.

Damn easy to use.The footswitches are quite sensitive,& the wah-wah is fucking good. The best part are the knobs!!The thing that guitarists want,so u can easily edit patches on stage.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Fender 57 relic strat, plugged in with a Samick cube 40 & this baby.Kick ass!!Damn good & rich sound quality.Gives you the upper edge on distortion tones.Delay,dist,flager,etc. all are really up to the mark. The chorus, however,is not at all satisfying. You can get the sound of David Gilmour,Joe Satriani, but it's not that good when it comes to 70's classic sounds or even Blues sounds.

Reliability : 9
Yes,I would use it without a backup, coz if anything happens, the adaptor blows 1st,leaving the microchip unharmed. It's been gigged,& it always kicks ass.

Here's a patch I made for my lead guitar sound.

This unit is one of the easiest processors to work with. It is very useable right out of the box and with a quick look at the manual your set.
The patches are very easy to alter, and the knobs make it much easier to adjust in a hurry.

Sound Quality : 9
I play and american standard and a Epi LP through a 75 fender Pro Reverb w/ 2 12AX7's. The classic distortion, tube OD and the US- high gain are very high quality, and sound great on the amp. I also tested the processor through a PA and the modeling held up pretty well, although it seemed very dry. The metal is ok. The fuzz and the marshall need some work. As well as the Fat distortion. The acoustic is horrible if you want an accoustic sound, GET A ACCOUSTIC GUITAR!

The cabs are great and make the amps sound much better. You have a wide variety from classic vox's to modern 4-12's and the air control allows for exact tweeking of that sound you want.

The Modulations are execellent! with rich choruses and deep flangers and phasers, the mods are make up for what it lacks in amps, and is worth getting just for them. The auto wah is a novel but simple pathetic idea and the octave down right blows. but the phasers are just incredible!
The pedal is ok, good for volume, and the wah is kinda ok, but not to much is great. Although the pedal has a very realistic feel and has some resistance to it.

Some of the reverb needs to be warmer but the delays and echos are very good.

Reliability : 10
About 4 month ago my studio flooded and the ax was compleatl;y submerged for about 4 hours, STILL PLUGED IN AND ON! i opened it up and it dried out and still works fine. I had to replace my "indestructable" boss compressor though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never have had to deal w/ them.

Overall Rating : 9
I play mainly classic and alternitive rock and some old jazz. this unit is great for its abillity to suit many different types of music styles and can cover from beatles to zeppelin to bush and do it very well.
to make it better, it should be able to do multiple effects at once, and if you put a real tube in the pre amp your set.
As ive said before, this unit is very easy to use and will survive nuclear war. its a great processor to start out with or to add on to a pedal board. You can probly get it on ebay for like 150 and for that price it's a invalueble piece of equipment in your inventory.

This is a really easy unit to work with. It's straightforward to get your sound via the setting switches and controlling each setting is a breeze with the dials. The unit comes loaded with the obligatory metronome and tuner, but adds a welcome phrase trainer and sample with a built in loop. Banking down through effects is nasty as it requires big shoes and much foot-accuracy as you need to simultaneously tap two pedals for it to work. NOT good if you're playing a gig, and you screw up (which is easily done). One thing this unit lacks, and badly needs is seamless patch change. Note to Korg: Sound dropouts are BAD!

Sound Quality : 7
I use a USA Strat and a Les Paul. The amp simulations are quite poor here, if Korg had spent as much time fine tuning their revolutionary REMS system as they did patting themselves on the back about it, we'd have some awesome sounds. The displays are clearly marked out with the name so f each effect, but sadly the Acoustic Simulator is dreadful, and just sounds like a clean electric slightly compressed. The Compressor is far too tight, and the Fat Dist sucks. The Metal Distortion delivers the goods, but the Seattle fuzz sounds like no fuzz unit I ever heard. The vox is nothing to write home about either, although the US Hi Gain is slightly better and offers a rather good crunch for rhythm and riffery. The Marshall is ok, but not awe-inspiring by any means.

The cab simulation is a good idea, it allows you to customise your amp setup to your heart's content. There is undeniably marked changes in the sound and tone when the different cabs are selected. The 'Air' control is a great idea, but for me not quite responsive enough. There is definitely an advantage to having the Cabs here.

Ambience is where this unit comes into its own. The phasers, flangers, trems etc are all fabulous. They sound great, they're controlled easily and loads of fun. This is definetely the strong point of this unit. The fx are of a high standard, and are perhaps deserving of the price alone.

The pedals are ok too, there's you're bog standard volume, vox wah (it's a matter of taste with the wah on the Korg, but I eventually got a great wah out of this. It varies depending on which amp sim you use it with, and a bit of reverb brings out the best here) and your Filtron, which is a kind of spaced-out seventies effect - nice for funk. Then there is is the uni-vibe effect, which is lovely but would've benefitted from a higher speed setting to get the Leslie Speaker-type sound. The talker is a novelty, and not totally practical but as good as the other talkers on the market.

Dealys are exceptional, allowing total manipulation of time and effect. If ambience is your thing, the Korg is for you. The reverbs aren't as warm as they ought to be, but the delays and echoes are excellent.

Reliability : 10
I haven't had a single problem with mine, it's really great. You could drive a tank over it and it wouldn't blink. Probably. Don't, though. I'd gig with this puppy without any fears, its very well assembled and the components are all good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with these people.

Overall Rating : 7
This will serve you for a variety of styles. If you're a blues player, ve it a miss. If you're a rock player or a shredder, this is a handy purchase. Or if you're just looking to acquire some fx, I'd point you here. Buy a good distortion pedal though, because the on-board ones aren't great. If Korg can't come up with better amp simulation, they could chop that section off and relaunch this cheaper as purely an modulation/ambience unit. If they threw in a drum machine, they'd make a fortune. While this unit is great, should it go missing I'd be tempted to peek at its rivals to see what they offer in terms of effects because I know they offer better overdrives than this beast. The sample loop is way too short, it barely lets you record a enough chords to solo over, and again there is a definite seam when the sample ends and it throws your solo to hell. It should be seamless, Korg! Apart from that, I'd have to say it's worth a look - others may well find the distortions are good. I think hey should knock a fraction off the price though.

It took me several months to learn to use it. And it takes a long time to learn how to make own good effects. The manual had everything I needed to know. I give it a 7 because I am still learning new things about It all the time.

This pedal is so much easier to use than any other multi-fx pedals out there. this is its major plus. I was able to take it out of the box, plug in my Ibanez AX120 and just go. I didn't even read the owners manual.

Sound Quality : 4
Sound quality....thats another story altogether. The volume changes from effect to effect are horrid when playing live. When using an acoustic, mine is an Ovation Celeb Deluxe, you pretty much can leave, the compressor and chorus on most of the time. When playing electric on the other hand, the pedal gives no sustain whatsoever. The distortions on the pedal are horrible, unless you play through the perfect guitar and prfect amp. Which i do not have.

Reliability : 10
You better believe you can depend on this, rugged roadworthy, steel casing. I have dropped it numerous time, besides a couple nicks and dings but works as perfectly(i use that word lightly) as the day i got it.

i play church music, rock, creed, pod. This pedal does a good job of pleasing a novice, for the very affordable price. However, i am no longer a novice and i crave more, but it helped me get started and exposed me to many different amp sounds and effects (56 to be exact). Tweakability is fun, knobs are great, LCD is bright. But i crave more, i am looking at the boss gt-5 right now.

This unit is very easy to use. I personally prefer the discrete knobs for quick editing versus the LCD with arrows-only approach used by many more expensive units. The manual is fairly clear on how to do things, but the unit is simple enough I was able to figure most things out just by fiddling with it for awhile.

Sound Quality : 5
My setup is simplistic: I plug my guitar into the Korg effects/preamp unit, and I plug the output of the unit into the power-amp in jack of a Fender Deluxe 85 amp (one 12-inch speaker), thus bypassing the Fender's pre-amp section.

The unit is fairly quiet. You need the noise reduction on for compression, but that's pretty normal.

The effects are generally quite good for a unit in this price range. I've read complaints about the wah, but I think the wah is not bad at all. I have a real 1960's vintage Cry Baby wah peddle that the Korg does not immitate perfectly, but the Korg wah is competent. Also the vowel sound is quite cool and effective. Other effects such as chorus and reverb are not outstanding but very competent.

I am unhappy with two aspects of the effects. One is that the natural tone of my guitars is lost, even if I try to make a "vanilla" patch that doesn't do distortion, chorus, etc. I can tweak things a little and get some of it back, but I'd like the whole tone back. I can use BYPASS for this, but then I lose the basic effects I want like reverb. The second problem is, I think, a bigger one: the compression causes the attack on notes to make a "popping" sound. It's quite noticeable. It's an effect I might like in some cases, but you can't get rid of it without turning off compression. I have an ancient DigiTech RP-1 that I was hoping to replace with this unit, but the RP-1 does not have these problems. It is basically a better unit in spite of its age and quirks IMHO.

I don't normally try to get sounds of my favorite artists, but just playing around I could get somewhat of a 1960's Clapton sound with my Gibson ES-347. Later strat Clapton sounds, using my American Strat, were actually more difficult since the full tone of the Strat is lost a bit in the effects.

Reliability : 8
I haven't had the unit long so reliability is hard to judge. However, it is a solid metal case and appears to be quite rugged.

I play jazz, blues, hip pop, folk, contemporary country, a lot of stuff. I don't play any acid or death metal. I do use heavy dist/comp once in awhile for effect. The Korg AX1000G is OK for some of this. The jazz/blues suffers a little with the unit.

the unit is fairly simple.
it has 5 big buttons, an expression pedal, 5 'analog feeling' knobs (for tweaking the settings), 5 selector knobs, five buttons, an lcd with 8 buttons.
when you figure it out, editing patches is pretty simple.
you dont need to read the manual first i don't think, but after you've messed around with the presets for a while (a day), you'll get bored and want to shove this thing to its limits - this is when you read the manual.

Sound Quality : 4
i said it was easy to use.
i didn't say you could get a good sound out easily.
the distortions are pretty bad... infact dismal, and they are very good on the boss gt-3 (a friend has one).
the only thing that really saves it is its ambient (echo) effects.
these are very good, and sh*t in the boss gt-3's mouth.
the pedal and mod. effects are not bad - but they lack 'that something' which makes the standalone effects worth buying.
they lack soul and warmth i think.
a bit weak is the word i'm looking for here.

after a years experimentation with this, i have discovered some pretty good sounds, but the good sounds limit you to working with about a 1/4 of the board's effects.

my setup is a parker fly p-38 into the effects into a peavey bandit 112. the bandit isn't particularly good, because it has alot of background hiss and i have spent quite alot of time trying to get rid of it. but the second channel (with slight overdrive settings) helps to give the effects a little warmth.

it's hard to get the sounds of my favourite artists becuase people like jonny greenwood use complex settings, which i dont even think are possible on this.
it's also quite hard to find a good lead sound.

the amp models never really leaped out at me as being particularly brilliant - and i don't think they provide the tonal differences that the real amps would do.

also - the parameters on this don't go up (or down) in 0.1 (out of 10), they go up and down in 0.3 and 0.4, and this can be quite annoying when you're being really fussy, and you can clearly hear the difference between (for example) 7.3 and 7.7.
just thought i'd throw that in

strangely, i managed to use it on my keyboard (piece of 80's crap) and get a pretty mellow choir like sound (like in the back ground of alot of radiohead songs) - although it is a bit weak.

Reliability : 8
if i could afford it, i wouldn't depend on it - but as i'm a poor man, and can't afford back ups, i have to.

the knobs are a little shoddy. the drive tweak knob cracked down the side within a month, and kept falling off.
the 1st big button became a bit sticky too - but i thinks thats because my bother spilled beer on it (he never told me he did - but you have to assume these things).

apart from that it's made out of some pretty solid feeling metal that would be hard to dent without a hammer.

Customer Support : No Opinion
nothing really worth phoning about.

Overall Rating : 4
since i dabble in a bit of metal from time to time, distortions are essential - and i'm not particularly pleased with this.
i also dabble in a bit of ambient psychadelia sort of stuff and the echos do kick lots of ass, which is probably why i still own this.
i've been playing for about a year and a half now, and got this for christmas (11 months ago).
at the time i was very pleased with it, as i was pretty much still a novice - and if you're just starting out, you'll be very pleased with it too.
it's just... you grow out of it - you find that stand alones are capable of alot more, especially sonic experimentation.
you also have the fun (or bore - which ever way you look at it) of finding out the different orders to put the pedals to find which ones work better etc.
you have alot more freedom to get rid of and buy pedals that suit your fancy and if you dont like ring modulators - tough! because korg used up a space for it - and you can't replace it with anything else.
what i'm trying to say is - when you buy your multi effects - unless you want to shell out more money, you don't have much choice as to what goes into it.
think of it as a sample booklet of carpet.
you have small pieces of carpet to take back home and decide which carpet you want in each room in your house - to see what it would look like.
it's only when you get the carpet fitted (you buy stand alones) that you realise what it really looks like (what the sound actually is).
... a nice analogy there i thought...

if it were stolen, i wouldn't buy another, i'd buy stand alones, but i'd certainly be annoyed that i lost my amazingly great delay settings.

design wise, it should have a foot controllable on/off switch (so you don't have to bend down to take the power lead out). it should also have a bank down switch, because it's straining to twist your foot, with the ball of your foot on the bank up switch and press the 4th big button with your heel, and do that numerous times until you get to your desired setting - it's either that or bend down and do it with your hands.
also you can't really use it with shoes on, especially if you have boots or wide soled shoes on, because you end up pressing lots of buttons at a time.
if it were upto me, i'd have the buttons a bit further spaced apart, with the metal switches a la Yamaha DG stomp.

at first, this little gizmo helped me practice and make music, but now it's slightly constrictive, becuase it doesn't go to extremes in terms of the parameters, and once you get passed the stage of learning what you have to do and learning how to create your own thing, it's not particularly amazing.

although, it is a VERY good unit if you're a beginner, and will keep you ALOT more interested in guitar than your normal clean amp setting.
this will also give you endless hours of playing random stuff and faffing with the mods, pedals, and delays - which is especially good if you're a beginner, because it means you can make sounds which aren't normal, and this will boost you eagerness to learn the damn thing (this is if you're anything like me).

myself, i have grown out of this, but would thrust this upon a beginner, because i got so much enjoyment out of it, and really will make you play guitar alot more, improve your technique and your eagerness to learn!!!!!

p.s. if i wrote this 8 months ago, it would get straight 10's!!!
