Ease of Use : 7
Spec: see website or other reviews below.
Very easy to use and create patches.

Sound Quality : 7
A bit noisy.
Digital effects are average.
I have used it through a tube amp/combo which makes these digital units twice good.
Sounds are not bad, but far away from real tube sound and feel.
On the other hand, I like the sound of Korg units in general (much midrange), they do not want to behave like hi-fi units with lots of treble.

Reliability : 9
Had no problem.
Saving patches did not work sometimes, could be problem of button.

Customer Support : 9
I have contacted Korg (company Atec in Hungary) regarding another unit 10+ years ago, and they were very helpful.

Overall Rating : 7
Good as a first digital unit for beginners, especially if you can get it cheap. Suitable for metal styles. If you are not into metal but lighter styles, buy a Boss GT-6 instead, which will cost more.
I know guitar players who use AX1000G with expensive guitars and amps in live, but I think this unit will not improve the sound of a good guitar or amp, but uniform it, like all cheap digital units.
I had a Korg AX30G (was very good that time) and I can not tell you that AX1000G is much better... so I would not buy it again.
Please do not interpret my words like it would be a bad unit, because it does not. I just prefer real tube sound much better.
I really like Korg and they concepts. If I were a keyboard player, I would use Korg exclusively...

Easy to use straight out of the box, and easy enough to customize settings once you skim the manual.

Sound Quality : 5
I use this with a telecaster and a '65 super reverb amp. I didn't notice it to be very noisy until I bought the super reverb. Maybe it's the clean tube power bringing out what was masked by my old solid state rig. Even with all the settings bypassed, it's still too noisy for me. Yes, when I plug the guitar straight to the amp (no pedal) It's very clean.

Reliability : 10
I've stomped on this piece of gear for over 6 years with no problems.

Customer Support : 8
When calling customer support I had trouble finding someone who could help with technical details on this specific item. After a few tries and a couple of weeks I got an answer. (power supply requirements, "how many mv. does it require?")

Overall Rating : 8
This pedal does have an incredible amount of useable distortion, and other effects, taking the place of many other pedals. The Expression pedal worked great as a volume.

dead easy to use, excellent sounds, will do almost anything. Huge bonus is the really easy to use built in 8 second looper. went from an ok guitarist to someone who could improvise leads to anything in six months. write a short loop, get the feel for it, see the target notes in your head, let it flow. best practice tool on the planet.

Sound Quality : 9
Into a Laney VC30, clean crunch and great soloing sounds, not bad for srv type blues but not its strongest suit.

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank, flawless for over 5 years

Customer Support : No Opinion
when you build them this well who need support. I wish korg would listen to its existing buyers though. If they put a 3 minute 2 patch memory on the looper for the ax1500g i would have stopped looking for processors, period. they left it out of the ax3000 altogether, just plain stupid!

available used for around ??50 ($100) go and get one! will completely replace a dozen stomp boxes. bought mine for ??150 ($300) five years ago, best guitar money i ever spent.

This is my favourite so far, and I've tried Pods and Boss and alsorts. I rarely find I need more than 4 presets per song so for live playing this is a great machine. I got the unit second hand and got he manual off the net.

Sound Quality : 9
I use the poweramp input as it gives a cleaner response to the unit's sounds. The sounds I want are there, the skanky nu-wave to the compressed wah glam rock, XTC to Thin LIzzy, and great sounds. I'm using my Tele standard and Tele custom via a fender princeton 122plus and the response is great.

Reliability : 9
That has been thrown around the back of so many gig vans and doesn't have a scratch. I have always gigged without a back up. If that went I'd be left with clean, wah, and in-built drive.

Customer Support : 10
I got the manual from their website so cheers!

Overall Rating : 9
I have a set and each song is a group setting on the toneworks, the next song is the next setting. You don't need more than 4 settings per song. In that respect the toneworks is great. For recording the unit is easily adjustable and the prefect sound is reached. Note, recording, DI, and run through an amp for monitoring. This is the best for results.

How easy is it to get a good sound out of it?, Editing?, Manual?
---Individual mode is easy.
---Editing is very easy, twist the knobs. If you have ever played with an effects processor it should be easy.
---I bought mine used, so no manual. But i have recently found the manual here.

Setup: Schecter C1 elite--> Korg Ax1000g===stereo to Randall 60w 12" Solid State, and a Peavy Transtube 40w 10".

Noisy? -Nope, built in NR works great!

Effects? - If you know how to tweak them to your amp, and your environment then they work lovely.

Sounds of Fav Artists? - I liked a few of the settings so i kept the factory settings alone, and just modified the user patches for now. The Dyme setting sounds pretty accurate, esp if you use a standalone wah in front of the korg! But there is any artist you want in here to about 90%.

Reliability : 8
i bought mine used, but its metal. there are a few knobs missing, but they all function. I think as long as i dont spill anything on it and take it easy on it, it should last a while. That said, this is a replacement for a broken Ax100g...

Backup? I like to rely on my gear to perform, but in a fix i think i could get by with no effects, or just hook up my wah and fuzzbox to my amps to get a nice tone.

But if i could aford it, id have a vintage rack, and use this thing as the backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never delt with the company.

Overall Rating : 10
I play classic rock covers, blues, and fusion. This pedal has a key to my fusion jams. I use the travler setting with some ping pong delay, on the stereo amps. I also have a violin bow for Zep covers, and i use this with the traveler setting, and a stand alone wah. This effect is unique. I love it for that alone.
I have been playing for over ten years. Im 23. I would buy another korg series, prob the 1500g, but they didnt have one at my local guitar center, and i had a replacement check from the warrenty of the broken ax100g.
I tried this against a few other used effects pedals, this was the best for the price. And the stereo outs was a big dealbreaker. I wish the wah was better. But you can use a standalone wah and cool effects like the univibe at the same time. Get that intro to Machine Gun. Cant do it without the seperate pedal tho.
If you play trippy music, then buy one of these things. Its also pretty decent at emulating your favorite artists, and creating your own tone as well.

Very comfortable device to change your sound setting on the fly. Day by day I use the same presets but I a little bit change the settings depending on my mood. And it's really easy.
I bought this processor in Germany when I worked there. And of course the manual was in German. Even my modest German language skill was enough to understand how it works, but in the shop I used no manuals to research good sounds.
I don't use tap delay and ring modulation.
Individual effect mode is great! But sometimes I press the button not enough long - so it comes to the bank change mode. I know only one way to cancel it - sit down (on the stage) and press a little Exit button.
Very difficult to switch banks down. You have to be very accurate. But it's hard to imagine where to put the additional Bank Down button, because the device is long - just for my knapsack. I own a rack preamp too but it's longer, that's why it's impossible to take it as easy as the Korg AX1000G.
I'd like to have the master level control and parametric EQ (as in MetalZone, fore example, or in Digitech PR300).
When you use a metronome and want to change any effect and then to change the metronome tempo, you should swith the metronome off before (Exit button). But it's not a problem at all.

Sound Quality : 7
When you play alone, the sound is good. But your guitar can disappear in mix. Once I even played with other 2 guitars simultaneously (Zoom 505 and Digitech RP50). My solos sometimes were lost.
Clean sound is great. I like to play in headphones. Sometimes with chous. And always with a little reverb.
But the sound may be different depending on your mood. I don't really know - either the digital presets sound not always the same, or it's just my ears. But I have to change anything almost always. Thanks God, it's very easy.
Distortions are not bad but my tube preamp sounds better of course. And I prefer use MetalZone when I can not take the rack tube preamp.
Unfortunately the noise is very high and the N.R. should be used in amount about 80 and higher - it's not good for the sound tails and the sustain. But if you do not use any other noise gate (I bought Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor), you should use the N.R. function very strong.

Reliability : 10
as a tank

Overall Rating : 9
I don't really want to sell it. I use it's metronome, combo emulation, reverb and volume pedal, sometimes some chorus.
It's a great all-in-one device for it's price.
But use the analog pedals or preamps together or instead. But when it's impossible - take the AX1000G.

this thing is the most easiest effects around to get a very good sound with...guarantied. editing are great. the best way is to go through every factory presets and if u find anything good-sounding, just go from there tweak urself to heaven. manual is great.. solves everything....yeah i did a fixed the sweep on the pedal so as to get an even and good sweep with it.

Sound Quality : 9
iv got a laney TF-200, les paul and a washburn MG-74...vintage giutar eh...?? from 92.
anyways...the thing is not noisy at all...just use ur head with the noisereduction compact in this pedal ok?
the effects are not all weak or boring but lets say..the wha is obviously weak especially on high-gain settings(well isnt it on all wha pedals in highgaiN)but on clean and especially on the bridge pickup...well u still get a decent wha vocal sound..ATLEAST!!!
other tahn that...IMACULENT...phaser, talkbox chorus delays everything except teh picth shifter...how the heck does this effect work! plain stupidity..

my favorite dist are the tubeOD for that clean cruch raunch thing, fatdist for that responsive and depth like u were shouting in a wood hole orsomething...very woody sounding. and the british stack that emulates the JCM 800.

now u want proof eh?? see its like this...hearing is to believing just like seeing is to believing right...

LISTEN PEOPLE:..i dont know why its so mny critics in this world that judges things off its covers u know....so plain dumbass..listen

with this thing i can sound anything i want...i did recently the BROWN SOUND of EVH right spot hand on break ....and for GNR AFD albums i nailed a long time ago..maaannn sweet child o mine with this thing is pure...just use the neck and the fatdist together with the classiccab 4x12 cab and put your wah in sweetspot for that more intense vocal O ROUND SOUND TRUST MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!..and locomotive, just thesame..and off goes with welcome to the jungle...with the delay and the wha on and the britshstack man pure GNR....just tell me if yar intressted and u might wanna go back to taht store and purchase this or the ax1500 coz this two are exactley tehsame its just the ax1500 has more effects and can handle more effects atonce together.

oh get a load with this..C*M shots hahahaha I WAS JUST USING MY COMPUTER`S SPEAKERS ON THIS EFFFECT THING ..just plugged it in this thing and my guiitar stright no turns...man it already sounded good what IF i put my Laney amp with this thing ...ho would it sound then...

just 9 coz someeffects especialy the wha is not top notch...but hejj...its still usable... oh and PS: the compresssor cant be i repeat cant be combined with the other dist on this floorboard effect.

Reliability : 10
very dependable...housing is made of steel...and the pedal too is steel... no pot on the pedal just electronics so there will be no squeaky pots now eh???? but still needs re-calibration friom time to time..

no backup needed...no 500 effect in a line could replace this hahahah

Customer Support : 10
no costomer suppert...never needed it anyways..

no repairs...only thing did was general cleaning on this coz this was purchased used coz it been discontinued but then there wioll be always the ax1500 around..
oh and did the sweep upgrade i did to even and smoothen the sweep of the peadal.

Ease of Use : 7
- Before I begin, I'd like to point out that I am posting a review after using this unit for almost five years. That's five years; averaging 100+ gigs a year, plus uncounted rehearsals and woodshedding. I have run this unit through the ringer, and it's come up smiling.

- When I first brought it home, I took maybe ten minutes with the manual, and I was building sounds almost immediately. Very easy to get good sounds. Probably the most intuitive multi-fx I have ever worked with. The manual isn't big, but it's clear and concise.

- The display is excellent, can be seen in broad daylight. However, the lights are very difficult to see in daylight (I played an outdoor festival gig). I had to do a lot of fiddling in order to get the sounds I needed for each song. Irritating. Other than that, this is extremely easy to use live. Modifying presets on the fly is a breeze.

- My biggest criticisms have to do with the Sample & Play, the Tap Tempo, and Banking Down. I've given up working with the first two, since the trigger (on the Toe-Down end of the expression pedal) is too difficult to trigger with any reliability. To Bank Down, you have to press two switches at the same time; very fiddly to get right. A pain if you have to change sounds live.

- Switching to Individual mode makes this unit even more useful Being able to switch fx on and off (like a row of stompboxes) is very handy for different textures during a song. And trying out new sounds on the fly has never been easier.

- Another concern is that it doesn't seem to work well with other fx. I have a Vox wah, a Boss Loop Station and a Yamaha FX-500, and I get a lot of noise when I hook them up. This unit doesn't like to play with others! To be fair, both the FX-500 and the wah could use some repairs.

Sound Quality : 9
- I mainly use this unit with either an Epiphone Dot (w. Gibson 57 Classics) or a Gibson Les Paul (Seth Lover/JB). I've also used this with a Strat, a Tele, and a Danelectro 12-string. This unit sounded great with all guitars. This unit is meant to be used with an amp. Recorded direct, it lacks midrange and punch. It is very clear, and doesn't suck the tone (whether using it through my Marshall DSL or Fender Blues Junior).

- Distortions are a mixed bag. Compression is useless, most of the distortions aren't great, with the exception of the Rat, Top Boost and Big Muff simulators. I use those regularly (except with the Marshall, where I use the amp distortion). Very digital-sounding at high levels. The cabinet sims aren't that true to life; treat them as preset EQ tweaks. Then they're very handy. Chorus, flanger, phaser, Uni-vibe are great, tremolo and auto wah are acceptable, the wah is okay (but not a patch on a real Vox wah), the ring modulator is goofy fun. The only real disappointment is the Pitch Bend. Good only for Atari sounds.
- The delays are worth the cost of this unit alone. Very sweet. The only criticism (other than the all-but-useless Tap Tempo) is that you can't input precise delay times. But considering the cost of this unit, I can live with that. This unit has turned me into a delay junkie.

Reliability : 9
- This unit is exceptionally sturdy; nearly bulletproof. The only problem is that the knobs have fallen off. At least one has gone for good. The other concern is that I've had to tighten the treadle for the expression pedal at least twice.

- I have owned this unit for five years, and I have played uncounted gigs without a backup. The only problem I had was the flimsy adaptor. I just walked into the nearest surplus store and bought two more adaptors. After that, I've had no problems. This thing is built like a tank.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never had to deal with Korg on a repair issue. This speaks volumes about the unit's reliability, considering how much I've used it over the past five years. And I'm not gentle!

Overall Rating : 10
- I have been playing for almost 20 years, and I play all kinds of music, from punk crunch to shoegaze to covers gigs to commercial sessions to backing various singer-songwriters. It has been indispensible for almost five years. If it was lost or stolen, I would immediately go out and buy another (or buy its successor, the 1500G). I estimate that, if I bought each individual effect, it would cost me well over $1000. The Korg doesn't sound exactly like the models it imitates, but it's close enough to get pro quality tones from it. Everyone who has ever heard me play through this thing has been impressed with the tones I get. And it comes at a very affordable price.
- When looking at this unit, I compared it to comparable models from Boss or Digitech. The Korg beat all of them, both in price and sound quality. I'm giving the AX1000G a 10, because it is such an excellent value. Well done, Korg!

Too many parameters and sub-parameters to get the tone you are looking for. Takes way too long to dial in what you want. And the knobs are too small.

Sound Quality : 4
It's a digital device, it sounds digital. Nothing in it is overwhelming but I have heard worse but not by much.

Reliability : 6
The first one I bought had a pedal button (the ones you step on to change the sounds) go bad within six months. The new one seems to be ok (Thanks to Guitar Center for exchanging the defective one for a new one!)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Great website. But I haven't called their customer care phoneline. Jury is still out on this one.

Overall Rating : 6
It's an ok effects board if you have nothing else. I bought it because I live in a condo and thought it would be a perfect compromise for having a floor full of pedals. I got burnt on that deal, the Korg is not out and the floor has my TS-9 and my Vox wah on it soon to be joined by a MXR phaser. I try to play all kinds of styles but it's mostly blues and heavy rock with the occaisional prog thing thrown in.

This is a great multi fx pedal. Its very easy to get usable sounds out of it. It may not have as much to offer than some pedals but I love the design and the ease of use. The built in tuner kicks ass.

Sound Quality : 9
To be honest most of the stuff this pedal has to offer is really good. The amp models sound good and the metal distortion if really great. Very responsive and thick sounding. Shit pickups could give you a problem though. I mainly use the eq off of the amp so I set my channels eqs to treble 6, mids 10, bass 5. It really cuts through this way. The acoustic sim kicks ass too. All the effects are the way they should be, USABLE, unlike some pedals Ive had. Mod delay is great for lead channels. Dont count on using the expression pedal that much though, it just dosnt have any range. Its only really usable as a volume pedal.

Reliability : 9

Ive put so much money into boss and digitech its not even funny. Dont get me wrong theyre good companys but korg did something that they couldnt do. Make a great easy to use pedal for the right price. I know you could find boss and digitech pedals at this price range but they wont be as good as the korg. Remember this pedal is not really for the deep editor kind of guy but more for the working musician that needs good sounds. And Korg delivered.

Easier to use that my Boss ME-30. I like the knobs- easier to edit in manual mode during gigs. I think that?s always going to be the big selling point for these.

Sound Quality : 8
I reviewed this once before and I bagged it. I sold it to a mate but have recently borrowed it again because I needed the mod delay (my Ibanez DML-10 mod delay has gone to a better place) , which the ME-30 doesn?t have. I was much too hard on it before. Maybe I had a crap amp and just wasn?t accustomed to the subtleties of FX. Anyway, the dist is actually pretty good- just keep the gain down, except for compressed distortions. Other FX are all great with the exception of flange- for the life of me I can?t get rid of the chorus-y overtones- drives me nuts. And that?s on 'classic flanger' and on 'chorus/flanger'. I only got a decent flange tone when I set it up through the mod delay.

Reliability : 7
This time, no complaints re reliability, but the time that I wrote about previously (where it started buzzing furiously right before a gig and then came good 5 minutes before we went on) makes me a bit twitchy.

Customer Support : 9
Even though I don?t think that Korg products are as reliable as Boss, Boss could really something re customer service by looking at Korg?s website. Any notice that Boss don?t publish ANY manuals on their website?

Overall Rating : 8
Much better than I originally stated. Sorry Korg. It?s all quite adequate (don?t forget, it?s a lot cheaper than a GT-6, so don?t expect that kind of goodness) and infinitely more user-friendly than the ME-30. Although, I do think the ME-30 does sound marginally better and the new ME-50 may be even more user friendly than the Korg. It?s good that we have a couple of quality choices now.

This unit is very easy to use. I have never used the factory presets for anything, but have managed to fill up the other 40 they give you. It would be nice to be able to have access to the full 80 slots rather than have a bunch of presets nobody ever uses. Manual is small but straightforward. I haven't seen it for a few years, and can't remember everthing in it. There is a way to calibrate the pedal, but only did that once upon first usage. Editing is a snap.

Sound Quality : 8
Sound quality of the unit itself is very good. But, depending on what you are running it through, it could vary. I have used this unit with a couple of different setups. I use 2 Fender Strats, one is a stock Deluxe Super Strat, and the other is/was a Lone Star Strat that I modified with new pickups in a H/S/H config. When I first got the AX1000G I was running it through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, then miked through the PA. This setup sounded best without using the amp sims. I don't think there is really any way to make a 1-12 tube amp like what the sims are supposed to be. It's just to colorful. Now I am running it direct thru an eq to it's own PA. QSC 1400 watt power amp, 2 Yorkville SP210 subwoofers and 2 Yorkville tops in stereo. This is my onstage setup. I could just go direct into the mixer, but I wanted some sound on stage to resonate my guitar for harmonics and monitoring purposes. The amp sims really come into their own through the clean power. The acoustic simulator never really worked very well through the Fender, but sounds pretty authentic through the PA. It also seems to sound better witht a single coil pickup. I can now dial in pretty much any sound I hear on my cd collection. From a jangly SRV kind of sound to a really heavy KoRnish, to tubey classic sounds. The clean sounds of the sims are nice also. I tend to use the blackface 212 most though. Chouruses are allright, I don't lay on effects to thick usually, except for the Pink Floyd patches that I made. The delays are great. The autowah is nice, but I don't use the Vox wah. I don't have any use for some of the uncommon effects like the pitch shifter and ring modulator.

It's pretty dependable, I have had it for about 4 years now and the only real thing wrong is the #3 button is starting to get a little intermittent. Maybe one of my kids spilled something in it? Also once at practice, I got some good country radio through it on my high gain patch :-). I wouldn't gig without a backup, but I have a backup for everything just in case.

I have been playing in the same variety band for about 6 years now with varying setups. http://abe.midco.net/vitalsignz
This is a very nice tool for my type of play. I'm not a real "tone-freak" like some musicians are. If it's close, it's ok. The drunks I play for 99% of the time don't care if it's authentic or not. I've used rack gear and a maze of floor pedals before, but I am coming back to the Korg. For a long time I was just using it at home with the headphones (which sounds incredible by the way). If it were stolen or lost, I'd probably get the 1500 because this one is about 4 years old now anyway. I love the tones through my "PA" style setup. I don't really like it through a regular guitar amp. I think I like the acoustic sim the best...or maybe US high gain in the 4x12 modern...ugh, must be a tie. I didn't really compare it with other stuff, but I did mess with it for a few hours at the local shop before I bought. I wish it had more storage rather than factory presets. The delay between patches isn't a very big deal once you get used to it. I really like this product. It has drasticly reduced my setup time and eliminated a lot of troubleshooting. If any of you have a large pedal setup, you know what I mean!

The knobs make for easy editing; it keeps you experimenting and creating for a long time to come. Some disortions good; some not;
indvidual mode similar to pedal board setup; compression choppy; if noise suppression is maxed will have jagged decay. Loop reverse unpredictable. cabinet simulations a little weak. The manuel is clear
and not intimidating. Editing easy. Can't run modulation block with pedal block; that sucks. Some effects pro grade! Loop is a nice feature. Slight delay time when switching to other programs/ and on/bypass. Overall is a very good multieffects. 1-10----6 1/2.

Sound Quality : 6
I've used single coil and hbs. tube and solid state. It's not noisy, noise reduction very good with no tone alteration. effects are not weak and some are pro quality. acoustic weak, od great, distortions=some so so some great. I get the "american woman" with the big muff; seattle, metal, the "traveler" sucks, talk wah is ok.
the wah responds different good/fair with what other effect it is working with.

Reliability : 9
I have used it on gigs without back ups. I have a program list nearby to keep up with the large quantity of programs. It is dependable;quick adjustments on stage are easy after becomeing familiar with it.

from do wop to Zakk Wylde to country to gospel this unit is usuable for it all. The fact that it doesnt instantly respond when pressing the black stomp switches are a little tricky. I probably would replace it if lost etc; I've used it direct recording, it responds beter in some ways as compared to in fromt of an amp. An under rated
product.

I found this fairly easy to use, though reading the manual helps! However I could never get the sample & play feature to work and gave up on it. I think this box could do with a few knobs and less of the clunky footswitches. My dad was completely baffled by it, which means it's failed the general public test.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm giving it an 8 just because it's so good value.

The cabinet sims are so good I became addicted to them, and couldn't play with the BritStack emulation on! They really do add a lot of presence and depth to a small amp.

Distortions are okay, but noticably electronic at higher settings. I used this with a Marshall ShredMaster (one of the most natural sounding pedals around), so the only time I'll use distortion is if I want to sound synthy - good for a Blue Box emulation, though, I guess! I'd recommend getting a couple of decent distortion boxes to go with this.

Most of the effects are pretty good. The wah is a bit crap for actual funk, but makes a deep synthy sound reminiscent of the MXR Blue Box when the pedal is depressed. The Phaser is a bit blah, but the flanger and tremelo are as good a most standalone boxes. The ring mod and the other wacky effects are well-produced, though they lack the spark of, for example, an Electro Harmonix box, so I found myself using them sparingly. Chorus is nice, and the delay is very, very good. The pitchshifter and tone bend are absolutely awful, but good if you want Atari sounds.

Overall most of the effects here are 8/10 or 9/10, with the exception of the distortions (5/10). Nothing is very spectacular here, but the sheer amount makes up for it.

I was using it with my Burns guitar and a keyboard amp (for bass).

Reliability : 7
Well, I've had it for 4 years and, to my surprise, the footswitches haven't broken, though the knobs do keep falling off. The wah pedal has some kind of fault in it where using the pedal only makes a very small tone change - this can only be fixed by unplugging the box and plugging it in again. This only happens with the wah effect. Othewise this is a very solid and good-looking unit.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
I've been fairly harsh with some of the ratings here, but that's got more to do with my general dislike of multieffects and this unit itself. The main problems with it (inorganic sounds, the fact that you can use a tremelo and flanger at the same time, the fact that nothing sounds exactly individual) are problems found in all but the most expensive boxes. I'm going to keep using this for it's more obscure effects (ring mod, flanger, delay, electro-fuzz), but it's been superceded by my stomp boxes for most of the time. I'd recommend this unit to someone just starting out on guitar, or to someone like me who likes to use odd effects on occasion, or to someone who doesn't feel the urge to turn all their effects on at once, turn up the amp to 11, and run away.

This was the first multi-effects unit to use knobs instead of buttons to help program effects. It is very easy and intuitive as well.

This unit models effects, classic effects. As such, it is like having 15 or so stompboxes at your disposal in one unit. Some reviews complain about a clean patch, the answer is to turn off all effects except drive. Set drive to Classic Comp with drive OFF, level 7.3, and Treble/Middle/Bass 10 each. Bing. Sounds just like your guitar when in bypass mode. Others complain about the need for two buttons to get bank down. That one is irksome, but my website below has the answer.

Go there to find out how to get a perfect clean patch.

Most everyone is jumping on the Amp modeling units and the bigger names like BOSS and LINE6. Good for us, as the prices for the KORG units are staying low. I sold my AX1000 and got an AX1500G. It's the same pedal effects-wise but gives you two drive/cab settings for each patch, kind of like a two-channel amp.

I play an epi SG w/carvin pickups through this thing and it's got an amazing sound. there's no sound that you can't get with it if you spend a little time tweaking it. I'm constantly getting praise and comments on how good my guitar tones are when I play. I usually run direct into the sound system when I use this, although I also use it with my amp's fx loop for the mod/delay fx when I want to use my amp distortion. the models are really great and really can make any guitar sound good.

Reliability : 10
I've been using this w/o a backup for 3 years...playing no less than twice a week...sometimes up to 5 times a week with it. I've had to replace the AC adaptor twice, but that's no biggie. the unit itself is extremely tough, and the only thing I would change is the footswitches are made of plastic...I prefer the mettal button-type ones commonly found on amp footswitches, but these work well.

The basics of the unit are easy to get to grips with, but setting the loop record and using the pedal switch can be a bit irritating. Editing is a real doddle, press the button of the parameter you want to adjust and then adjust the knobs. Couldnt be easier.

Sound Quality : 7
I use it mainly for recording into my p.c. Im using a bc rich warlock with an emg85 in the bridge position. In fairness the output of the unit seems a little on the low side, could be a little hotter, but it is suppossed to be used mainly in front of an amp.
I found the clean sounds to be very dull and uninspiring. They seemed to lack that sparkly shimmer you would normally expect. However the drive sounds are where its at, and the korg certainly delivers. Powerful overdives and distortions to cover the entire sonic spectrum.
Even at the higher gain settings the sounds retain a lot of definition, and by using the guitars tone, can certainly deliver a wide spectrum. Top stuff.
Some of the modulation effects are a little samey but are different from some of the more standard offerings from other units, and can provide inspiration. Again you may only use them on one song before the inspiration runs out, but they also add some fun.

Reliability : 10
Solid build consruction. Played for hundreds of hours on mine and never had one fault. I take it out live but only as a back up to my amp (trace elliot speedtwin)so if my amp goes down I can plug straight into the p.a and have a sound I already know.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed to find out.

Overall Rating : 9
As im a metal manaic the lack of decent clean sounds is not a problem as such. The great drive sounds and ease of use make it a great studio tool, and a great backup for live work.
The pedal could use a little more travel, and a more confident way of switching it on and off, and as stated, the loop recorder could be more intuitive, but for the money it is a great little tool, which has served my need for speed (and hi gain lunacy!) well.
If it were stolen I would probably try the ax1500g just for the extra flexibility.

I use an Ibanez RGR270DX with DiMarzio pickups (Air Norton and Steve's Special) on a Peavy Bandit 112 solid state (80 watt RMS). The Korg sounds pretty cool with a variety of sound and no noise (thanks to noise suppressor): I love Metallica and I can create their sound easily also if I sound a lot of metal, hard rock and so on... Anyway all effects seems very good to me and satisfy my needs.

I've tried many others gears and this one match perfectly my needs and my taste. If it was stolen or lost maybe I'll try something else like Boss GT-6 ($$$$). The knobs make this unit pretty easy to program -- it's a vast improvement over my old Digitech RP-6 in that regard, and it's far more intuitive than a lot of similar units for somebody like me who's been oriented toward stomp boxes for most of their playing career. The manual is quite readable, but you can get away with abandoning it and just playing with the unit to figure it out, which to me is the sign of a user-friendly piece of equipment. In terms of getting a good sound, after a lot of trial and error I recommend starting with nothing -- no drive settings, cab settings or anything -- and adding in effects very conservatively, since there's potentially so much going on that it's pretty easy to muck up your sound otherwise.

Sound Quality : 6
I usually play a Gibson SG through a Carvin X-100 tube combo amp. I wouldn't say I'm trying to get anybody else's sound in particular, but I need access to good distortion, compression, phase, chorus and delay most often. I have pretty much abandoned the distortions on this unit in favor of just overdriving my amp, although I think that shreddy metal types might find a few things in here to make them happy. As I mentioned, I've also ditched the cab simulations, since I found it just too frustrating to get a handle on EQ and fix things on the fly in the Korg rather than just twiddling the Carvin's tone knobs, and I'm not really looking for a wide range of cab sims for live performance. The compressor is passable, although I think it might be the source of some noise in my effects chain. Phase is very good, delay and looping are reasonably versatile (except I wouldn't trust the sample-and-play for a live gig since the switch under the expression pedal is a bit dodgy), wah sucks. It's disappointing that certain effects can't be used together, like chorus and flange, for instance. A lot of the more off-the-wall effect options are nifty in theory, but pretty useless in practice.

Reliability : 5
I've been gigging with it without a backup, but I'm headed away from that for two reasons: (1) The wall-wart's cable keeps coming out of the clip that's meant to hold it in place, which means it's getting stretched from use, and it now only works in one power strip that I have to carry around, and even then it only works in one direction. If I accidentally kick the power strip, the unit powers off and on. (I've ordered a replacement.) Some online specs I've found seem to suggest that the unit also takes batteries, but it doesn't. (2) The unit may be susceptible to extreme heat. I played one outdoor gig in midsummer where the display started flashing like a strobe, the bank selector would only move in reverse, and it kept skipping the banks where my most frequently used patches were; I wound up having to manually set up my sounds between songs. It never happened again after that day, but that sketched me out. On the plus side, the chassis is extremely durable, and I haven't had anything else on it physically break.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't contacted them directly.

I guess I mostly play art-pop these days with overtones of prog, blues and 70's dinosaur metal; been playing for over two decades. I'm going at least partially back to stomp boxes, since they're so damned satisfyingly tactile and modular, but I plan to keep this unit in the chain at least for now for the delays/loops, the tuner, the phase and maybe a handful of other options. The unit's bypass is non-polluting enough that I think I can do this without inflicting serious damage on the overall sound.

my setup:
jackson jdr94 with a paf pro (w/coil tap) in the neck position and a schaller 2in1 in the bridge position, also replaced the crappy jackson floyd for a lo-pro edge (neat guitar), then, the signal goes to a dunlop wah and to my peavey triumph pag 120 (great amp, cheap too), the ax1000 is in the effects loop of the peavey.
about the effect sound:
modeling is quite good, but doesn't beat the distortion of the triumph (awesome)
it's funny that i use the effects that i actually dislike from the unit. The chorus sounds horribly digital (unless used in stereo, why?) delays are okay by themselves, but combined with reverb, they suck, the rev/dly combinations really adds mud to the sound. Flanger, good. Phaser, really good. Pitch, so so, but i love the ability to delay the harmonized sound (can do vai's ballerina's trick). cabinet emulations..hmm, it depends. they really cut the higher and lower frequencies and takes life away from the sound, some of them are really a waist of bits. Some others warm up the sound, but at the expense of crispness and low end. The distortion emulations are better than others (like zoom), but not enough for me (they are really pick sensitive, but lacks dynamics and presence, and the overall textures of the mild drives sucks) the most importan drawback for me is that when you use the drive+cab+chorus, etc..the sound feels like coming from nowhere, the sounds gets stuck in the speaker and doesnt come out, its frustrating, very uninspiring..thats why i use it through the effect loop, and only use the modulation and rev/dly effects.
pitch shifter sounds bad (harmonized sound sounds totally muddy and digital, and with less volume), but the intervals are ok.
other cools effects are just gimmicks, i dont really use them.
overall, it sounds decent, but not pro. can give you hours of fun, but at last you get bored for the lack of life of the unit.

the sounds are great on this pedal, the only quibble is over the drive amp, cannot have compressor on with distortions, or acoustic sim with distortions, and the distortions aren't amazing, they're good, but im picky! the noise reduction circuitry is awesome, get the noisiest son of a single coil and hold it at a CRT monitor, plug in and yank up the noise reduction, and it'll be quiet as a quiet thing! perfect pedal for metallica/pantera/iron maiden you can even got korn ish sounds, steve vai's sound is easy to get very accurately but i find it hard to get yngwie malmsteen's sound, but i play an ibanez and a kit les paul not a strat, so what do you expect!! in play this thru my homemade amp, and it sounds well, great bass response and tonal clarity, but thats because solid state rules

This pedal is extremely easy to use.You just have to fiddle around with the effects, get a good sound which sounds okay to your ears, add the effcts accordingly, and after 20 minutes or so, you can get a fabulous patch.Editing patches are very easy. However, there are 2 limitations. One is that the bank down switch is a combination of the bank up & 4th patch switch, which means that by pressing both together, you can get to previous banks. There are 40 user patches and 10 user banks, which is just about enough.People who want more should not go for this pedal. The other limitation is that you cannot use modulation & pedal modulation together, which is very annoying.

Sound Quality : 7
I use a Fender 57 Relic strat and a Samick amp.The distortion and delay are kick-ass!Giving some time to edit the patches, any damn distortion tone and delay tone can sound awesome and absolutely pro-level.This is where the pdeal scores way above Digitech. However, thge distortion can be damn noisy if you don't know how to set the noise reduction.Once it's done, you can sound like a king. The amp simulator is grrreat!!! You can get the closest sound to any guitarist you like. The Flanger is good,Phaser is good,Filter is awesome, but the chorus, wah and talker are PATHETIC!I would suggest install a Vox wah,a DOD chorus with this thing and it rocks!!

Reliability : 6
It is indeed very reliable but not at all suited for hot & humid conditions. The switches might fuck up once in a while due to dust or moisture accumulation. In that case, cover the switches,I mean ALL the switches with cellophane paper and wrap it tightly, insulating it from weather conditions. As far as rigidity is concerned,it's built like a tank, with solid metal body and very good backlit LCD and powerful LED.But no,I won't use it without a backup.

*This is a fairly complex pedal. It is easy to get a good sound out of it because the user has control over every aspect of each effect.
*Editing patches is a little confusing the first time you enter the first effect- the instruction manual will walk you through this. After you made your first patch, you know how to do it and it is easy.
*The manual is excellent. It is easy to follow and does not get more complicated than it needs to.

*I have used this system on an Epiphone Studio 10 (10 watt amp). I have friends who have made my little amp sound like a vintage tube amp with no problems.
*I also use this pedal on a keyboard amp (fender 80 watt) and directly plug the pedal into my computer. The effects sound excellent on these systems as well. I sometimes put microphone and my keyboard through the pedal- flawless sounds

Everything is laid out for you to use, and the manual is actually very helpful, unlike most other pedals/processors. Editing a new patch is cake, and will sound good, as long as you don't put too many things into one particular patch.

Obviously, there is no true bypass, but when put on "bypass", this is about as close to transparent as you can get. I'm currently using this with my Aria Pro II LP copy in the effects loop of a Marshall VS265 Valvestate Combo, along side an Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo. I originally owned a Digitech RP2000, sold it because I hated it, and bought this for $150 less than the selling price of the Digitech. I must say that this is a better investment. Most of the "normal" effects (i.e. chorus, reverb, delay, echo) sound nice, and, like every other processor on the market, the distortion is lame as hell. I like the noise gate feature, love the U-Vibe (Uni-vibe for those of you who have every used one) as it is fantastic, the tremolo is decent, the ring modulator is ok, and the phaser is EXTRAORDINARY. But, the wah is even more lame than the distortions, the compressor sucks, and the pitch shifter is the worst I have ever played. The amp models would seem to be very useful to record direct, until you realize that this sounds like puke recording direct. For the record, out of every patch I've made and kept, none of them use the Drive-Amp, Cabinet, or Pedal functions on this pedal, meaning that approx. 60% of this pedal is useless to me. But, the other 40% is definitely well worth what I paid for it. Oh yeah, if you put this (or any other overdrive/distortion) pedal in your effects loop, and trying to use any of the distortion effects, you will end up overdriving the power amp and not the pre-amp, making for some very interesting feedback.

It's in a metal chassis, so that's no problem. But, before I could try absolutely everything with the expression pedal, something broke in it, making it so it has no resistance, meaning it is very floppy and wobbly. That, and 3 of the 5 adjustment knobs broke off, all this within the first year. No worries, small things have happened before to a lot of my gear, and most of it is fixable/replaceable. Of course, you will just have to read down below.......

Customer Support : 1
All I have to say is....WOW. These people seriously have a big problem talking to people. I called the service line about getting the pedal fixed when it broke, and the guy i talked to was seriously the most rude and pompous person I have ever spoken to. These people make Ibanez look like really wonderful, knowledgable folks. Basically, after this pedal broke under totally normal usage (I own many many different pieces of gear, and treat them all with care), I called them to see about replacing the part. I told the guy that the expression pedal broke, and wondered how much it would cost to repair. He asked me if I had been abusing the pedal, because electronics do not take too much abuse. I told him no, and explained what happened. So, this guys like, "you must be abusing the pedal, i've heard a lot of kids call up and say their pedal is broke, and this is because they beat the hell out of it and don't know what they are doing." Now, I'm only 20, and it was about a year ago when I called, but I've been playing guitar for about 12 years now, so I'm not a newbie to the game. I also play 6 other instruments with high proficiency, so I know how to take care of instruments and gear, and this ass accuses me of being irresponsible and abusing my stuff, only for him to say that usage such as I must have been inflicting on the processor is NOT covered under warrenty, and a replacement pedal would run me $100, plus shipping!!!!! Basically, I swore at him, and went out to buy a Morley Wah, since the korg Wah sucks anyway. Bottom line, if you own a Korg (or a Marshall, for that matter, since Korg "takes care" of both), pretend these people don't exist, because they won't help you if you need them to anyway. I wish I could give this category like a -200, just to show you how bad they really are. But, since this is a 1 to 10 scale, I'll just have to settle for the lowest score I can give.

Overall Rating : 7
If this was stolen from me, I would suck it up, be bummed out for like 2 days, save my hard earned college tuition loan money, and buy a few nice effects pedals that this processor gave me, like a Uni-Vibe, an Ibanez PH7 Phaser(the best phaser under $100 ever), one of those new Danelectro Reverbs (VERY nice pedal), and an Ibanez PM7 Phase Modulator (quite unknown, quite underrated). I wish they would have made some more of the effects useable (the pitch shifter, talker, and Mu-Tron simulator come to mind), and/or expanded the CPU to accommodate ordering the effects and being able to use the modulation and pedal effects simultaneously. Maybe ditching the Drive-Amp and Cabinet effects for this could keep the pedal in the same price range. Oh yeah, and make the sampling feature useable. Does anyone actually use this? I know how to use it, but it's pretty lame, and I play some music that could really use a decent looper. Bottom line, I don't regret buying it, because it has helped me with both gigging and (non-direct) recording, but ya gotta trim some fat to make a good steak, right? At least it's better than a Zoom.

I have had this unit for over 2 years and it has taken a lot of work to get decent sounds out of it. The distortions aren't usable to me after 2 or 3 and a lot of them are pretty useless. The modulation effects are ok...i can get good tones out of them but they are not incredible. The delay and reverb aren't that good, but with some serious tweaking i have made some good sounds. I have played live it a couple dozen times and although it has done well, it just struggles at high volumes. Overall it has been a joy practicing with this thing at home and low volumes. I used it direct to the P.A. tonight and it worked out ok, it took some major tweaking and some various techniques to get the tone less brittle, but it worked out well. It's a cool piece of gear, it would just be better if all the sounds were more pro-like. I don't really want to get any rack gear and i would like a floor unit to control everything, but there isn't anything that is suitable for my style, which is a very eric johnson type of clean, dense chord work, and leads that are dissonant and spacy but without the heavy distortion, joe satriani-esque on his less heavy distortion. This unit is good for practicing, it has definately inspired me numerous times, and has been a blessing.

Never had any problems, couple of quirky knob changes that make it skip around effects but other than that, i have used this without a back up for over 2 years sucessfully.

i have been playing for about 10 years and have an interesting style which necessitates different sounds than your average run of the mill rock guitarist. So i would say this unit has worked out for me well, but might not be so suitable for a metalhead. I have used this to record a bunch of material direct to my computer, all of which have turned amazing! I can dig it.

I did a pretty cool little mod to the ax1000g. instead of fumbling around with the expression pedal to trigger recording when using the sample and play feature. i created an individual stomp box to control the recording functions. i mounted a 5 pin jack on the rear panel, made a matching five pin control cable and put together a two pedal switch with one pedal for record, and one for play back. write me if you need more details.

I am currently playing a LTD Explorer with EMG 81 and 89 in the neck through a Carlsboro Stingary 120w combo. I really like the Distortions because i can get just about any sound that i want! even all of Metallicas! its the cheapest rigg that ive ever had and got such good sounds! As for the Wah its sucks!! But the phaser is really good! ive had problems with the volumes on distortions and modulation sounds! The distorions is allot louder than the other effects! so a bit of tweaking is in place! i mostly play Metal/Hardrock so its the perfect unit for me! Ive had a couple of Boss units but their Distortions suck! Ill give it 10 because of the good Distortions but dont be fooled the other effects are all very good!

Ive been playing for 7 Years. I also have an Mesa/boogie V-Tvin Killer Preamp! and some Stompboxes!
If it was stolen id propably would buy a Triaxis! if i can afford one! or maybe the 1500G
When i bought it i tried a couple of Digitech and Boss. But neither the sounds or the pricing was close to this one!
This thing definetly helps me make music. With better sounds and functions you get inspired!

This unit is one of the easiest processors to work with. It is very useable right out of the box and with a quick look at the manual your set.
The patches are very easy to alter, and the knobs make it much easier to adjust in a hurry.

Sound Quality : 9
I play and american standard and a Epi LP through a 75 fender Pro Reverb w/ 2 12AX7's. The classic distortion, tube OD and the US- high gain are very high quality, and sound great on the amp. I also tested the processor through a PA and the modeling held up pretty well, although it seemed very dry. The metal is ok. The fuzz and the marshall need some work. As well as the Fat distortion. The acoustic is horrible if you want an accoustic sound, GET A ACCOUSTIC GUITAR!

The cabs are great and make the amps sound much better. You have a wide variety from classic vox's to modern 4-12's and the air control allows for exact tweeking of that sound you want.

The Modulations are execellent! with rich choruses and deep flangers and phasers, the mods are make up for what it lacks in amps, and is worth getting just for them. The auto wah is a novel but simple pathetic idea and the octave down right blows. but the phasers are just incredible!
The pedal is ok, good for volume, and the wah is kinda ok, but not to much is great. Although the pedal has a very realistic feel and has some resistance to it.

Some of the reverb needs to be warmer but the delays and echos are very good.

to make it better, it should be able to do multiple effects at once, and if you put a real tube in the pre amp your set.
As ive said before, this unit is very easy to use and will survive nuclear war. its a great processor to start out with or to add on to a pedal board. You can probly get it on ebay for like 150 and for that price it's a invalueble piece of equipment in your inventory.

This is a really easy unit to work with. It's straightforward to get your sound via the setting switches and controlling each setting is a breeze with the dials. The unit comes loaded with the obligatory metronome and tuner, but adds a welcome phrase trainer and sample with a built in loop. Banking down through effects is nasty as it requires big shoes and much foot-accuracy as you need to simultaneously tap two pedals for it to work. NOT good if you're playing a gig, and you screw up (which is easily done). One thing this unit lacks, and badly needs is seamless patch change. Note to Korg: Sound dropouts are BAD!

Sound Quality : 7
I use a USA Strat and a Les Paul. The amp simulations are quite poor here, if Korg had spent as much time fine tuning their revolutionary REMS system as they did patting themselves on the back about it, we'd have some awesome sounds. The displays are clearly marked out with the name so f each effect, but sadly the Acoustic Simulator is dreadful, and just sounds like a clean electric slightly compressed. The Compressor is far too tight, and the Fat Dist sucks. The Metal Distortion delivers the goods, but the Seattle fuzz sounds like no fuzz unit I ever heard. The vox is nothing to write home about either, although the US Hi Gain is slightly better and offers a rather good crunch for rhythm and riffery. The Marshall is ok, but not awe-inspiring by any means.

The cab simulation is a good idea, it allows you to customise your amp setup to your heart's content. There is undeniably marked changes in the sound and tone when the different cabs are selected. The 'Air' control is a great idea, but for me not quite responsive enough. There is definitely an advantage to having the Cabs here.

Ambience is where this unit comes into its own. The phasers, flangers, trems etc are all fabulous. They sound great, they're controlled easily and loads of fun. This is definetely the strong point of this unit. The fx are of a high standard, and are perhaps deserving of the price alone.

The pedals are ok too, there's you're bog standard volume, vox wah (it's a matter of taste with the wah on the Korg, but I eventually got a great wah out of this. It varies depending on which amp sim you use it with, and a bit of reverb brings out the best here) and your Filtron, which is a kind of spaced-out seventies effect - nice for funk. Then there is is the uni-vibe effect, which is lovely but would've benefitted from a higher speed setting to get the Leslie Speaker-type sound. The talker is a novelty, and not totally practical but as good as the other talkers on the market.

Dealys are exceptional, allowing total manipulation of time and effect. If ambience is your thing, the Korg is for you. The reverbs aren't as warm as they ought to be, but the delays and echoes are excellent.

Reliability : 10
I haven't had a single problem with mine, it's really great. You could drive a tank over it and it wouldn't blink. Probably. Don't, though. I'd gig with this puppy without any fears, its very well assembled and the components are all good.

Overall Rating : 7
This will serve you for a variety of styles. If you're a blues player, ve it a miss. If you're a rock player or a shredder, this is a handy purchase. Or if you're just looking to acquire some fx, I'd point you here. Buy a good distortion pedal though, because the on-board ones aren't great. If Korg can't come up with better amp simulation, they could chop that section off and relaunch this cheaper as purely an modulation/ambience unit. If they threw in a drum machine, they'd make a fortune. While this unit is great, should it go missing I'd be tempted to peek at its rivals to see what they offer in terms of effects because I know they offer better overdrives than this beast. The sample loop is way too short, it barely lets you record a enough chords to solo over, and again there is a definite seam when the sample ends and it throws your solo to hell. It should be seamless, Korg! Apart from that, I'd have to say it's worth a look - others may well find the distortions are good. I think hey should knock a fraction off the price though.

This pedal is so much easier to use than any other multi-fx pedals out there. this is its major plus. I was able to take it out of the box, plug in my Ibanez AX120 and just go. I didn't even read the owners manual.

Sound Quality : 4
Sound quality....thats another story altogether. The volume changes from effect to effect are horrid when playing live. When using an acoustic, mine is an Ovation Celeb Deluxe, you pretty much can leave, the compressor and chorus on most of the time. When playing electric on the other hand, the pedal gives no sustain whatsoever. The distortions on the pedal are horrible, unless you play through the perfect guitar and prfect amp. Which i do not have.

Tweakability is fun, knobs are great, LCD is bright. But i crave more, i am looking at the boss gt-5 right now.

This unit is very easy to use. I personally prefer the discrete knobs for quick editing versus the LCD with arrows-only approach used by many more expensive units. The manual is fairly clear on how to do things, but the unit is simple enough I was able to figure most things out just by fiddling with it for awhile.

Sound Quality : 5
My setup is simplistic: I plug my guitar into the Korg effects/preamp unit, and I plug the output of the unit into the power-amp in jack of a Fender Deluxe 85 amp (one 12-inch speaker), thus bypassing the Fender's pre-amp section.

The unit is fairly quiet. You need the noise reduction on for compression, but that's pretty normal.

The effects are generally quite good for a unit in this price range. I've read complaints about the wah, but I think the wah is not bad at all. I have a real 1960's vintage Cry Baby wah peddle that the Korg does not immitate perfectly, but the Korg wah is competent. Also the vowel sound is quite cool and effective. Other effects such as chorus and reverb are not outstanding but very competent.

I am unhappy with two aspects of the effects. One is that the natural tone of my guitars is lost, even if I try to make a "vanilla" patch that doesn't do distortion, chorus, etc. I can tweak things a little and get some of it back, but I'd like the whole tone back. I can use BYPASS for this, but then I lose the basic effects I want like reverb. The second problem is, I think, a bigger one: the compression causes the attack on notes to make a "popping" sound. It's quite noticeable. It's an effect I might like in some cases, but you can't get rid of it without turning off compression. I have an ancient DigiTech RP-1 that I was hoping to replace with this unit, but the RP-1 does not have these problems. It is basically a better unit in spite of its age and quirks IMHO.

I don't normally try to get sounds of my favorite artists, but just playing around I could get somewhat of a 1960's Clapton sound with my Gibson ES-347. Later strat Clapton sounds, using my American Strat, were actually more difficult since the full tone of the Strat is lost a bit in the effects.

Reliability : 8
I haven't had the unit long so reliability is hard to judge. However, it is a solid metal case and appears to be quite rugged.

the unit is fairly simple.
it has 5 big buttons, an expression pedal, 5 'analog feeling' knobs (for tweaking the settings), 5 selector knobs, five buttons, an lcd with 8 buttons.
when you figure it out, editing patches is pretty simple.
you dont need to read the manual first i don't think, but after you've messed around with the presets for a while (a day), you'll get bored and want to shove this thing to its limits - this is when you read the manual.

Sound Quality : 4
i said it was easy to use.
i didn't say you could get a good sound out easily.
the distortions are pretty bad... infact dismal, and they are very good on the boss gt-3 (a friend has one).
the only thing that really saves it is its ambient (echo) effects.
these are very good, and sh*t in the boss gt-3's mouth.
the pedal and mod. effects are not bad - but they lack 'that something' which makes the standalone effects worth buying.
they lack soul and warmth i think.
a bit weak is the word i'm looking for here.

after a years experimentation with this, i have discovered some pretty good sounds, but the good sounds limit you to working with about a 1/4 of the board's effects.

my setup is a parker fly p-38 into the effects into a peavey bandit 112. the bandit isn't particularly good, because it has alot of background hiss and i have spent quite alot of time trying to get rid of it. but the second channel (with slight overdrive settings) helps to give the effects a little warmth.

it's hard to get the sounds of my favourite artists becuase people like jonny greenwood use complex settings, which i dont even think are possible on this.
it's also quite hard to find a good lead sound.

the amp models never really leaped out at me as being particularly brilliant - and i don't think they provide the tonal differences that the real amps would do.

also - the parameters on this don't go up (or down) in 0.1 (out of 10), they go up and down in 0.3 and 0.4, and this can be quite annoying when you're being really fussy, and you can clearly hear the difference between (for example) 7.3 and 7.7.
just thought i'd throw that in

strangely, i managed to use it on my keyboard (piece of 80's crap) and get a pretty mellow choir like sound (like in the back ground of alot of radiohead songs) - although it is a bit weak.

Reliability : 8
if i could afford it, i wouldn't depend on it - but as i'm a poor man, and can't afford back ups, i have to.

the knobs are a little shoddy. the drive tweak knob cracked down the side within a month, and kept falling off.
the 1st big button became a bit sticky too - but i thinks thats because my bother spilled beer on it (he never told me he did - but you have to assume these things).

apart from that it's made out of some pretty solid feeling metal that would be hard to dent without a hammer.

Customer Support : No Opinion
nothing really worth phoning about.

Overall Rating : 4
since i dabble in a bit of metal from time to time, distortions are essential - and i'm not particularly pleased with this.
i also dabble in a bit of ambient psychadelia sort of stuff and the echos do kick lots of ass, which is probably why i still own this.
i've been playing for about a year and a half now, and got this for christmas (11 months ago).
at the time i was very pleased with it, as i was pretty much still a novice - and if you're just starting out, you'll be very pleased with it too.
it's just... you grow out of it - you find that stand alones are capable of alot more, especially sonic experimentation.
you also have the fun (or bore - which ever way you look at it) of finding out the different orders to put the pedals to find which ones work better etc.
you have alot more freedom to get rid of and buy pedals that suit your fancy and if you dont like ring modulators - tough! because korg used up a space for it - and you can't replace it with anything else.
what i'm trying to say is - when you buy your multi effects - unless you want to shell out more money, you don't have much choice as to what goes into it.
think of it as a sample booklet of carpet.
you have small pieces of carpet to take back home and decide which carpet you want in each room in your house - to see what it would look like.
it's only when you get the carpet fitted (you buy stand alones) that you realise what it really looks like (what the sound actually is).
... a nice analogy there i thought...

if it were stolen, i wouldn't buy another, i'd buy stand alones, but i'd certainly be annoyed that i lost my amazingly great delay settings.

design wise, it should have a foot controllable on/off switch (so you don't have to bend down to take the power lead out). it should also have a bank down switch, because it's straining to twist your foot, with the ball of your foot on the bank up switch and press the 4th big button with your heel, and do that numerous times until you get to your desired setting - it's either that or bend down and do it with your hands.
also you can't really use it with shoes on, especially if you have boots or wide soled shoes on, because you end up pressing lots of buttons at a time.
if it were upto me, i'd have the buttons a bit further spaced apart, with the metal switches a la Yamaha DG stomp.

at first, this little gizmo helped me practice and make music, but now it's slightly constrictive, becuase it doesn't go to extremes in terms of the parameters, and once you get passed the stage of learning what you have to do and learning how to create your own thing, it's not particularly amazing.

although, it is a VERY good unit if you're a beginner, and will keep you ALOT more interested in guitar than your normal clean amp setting.
this will also give you endless hours of playing random stuff and faffing with the mods, pedals, and delays - which is especially good if you're a beginner, because it means you can make sounds which aren't normal, and this will boost you eagerness to learn the damn thing (this is if you're anything like me).

myself, i have grown out of this, but would thrust this upon a beginner, because i got so much enjoyment out of it, and really will make you play guitar alot more, improve your technique and your eagerness to learn!!!!!

p.s. if i wrote this 8 months ago, it would get straight 10's!!!

Firstly, I bought it because it of the knobs because I was sick of using buttons. It was easy to use in the shops. And lots of fun. The manual is good but I didn't use it for the first two months- just kept myself busy with all the basic features.

Sound Quality : 6
I use an Epiphone Coronet and and Ibanez CT Strat an Australian Scorpion 2 channel 1000w amp. I play light, meloncholy grunge/rock. Like I said, I bought it because I was sick of knobs but it didn't take me long to get sick of the fuzziness and the weakness of the distoted sounds. And that's what I got it for basically. I used to have a Zoom 2020 and I bought this so I could get some decent sounds and our other guitarist plays a Boss DS-1 stomp box (that's all!) with a Washburn G-II and that sounds much better. All other effects are fine. I just bought an old ME-5 to replace it. Anyone interested??? lol

Reliability : 7
I've gigged with it about 10 times. I'm sure it's fine but once it started buzzing and humming loudly beefore a gig and I wasn't going to be able to use it. Fortunately it came good just inm time.

I'm not going to keep- the distrotion sounds are just too weak. I'll be happy with the Boss ME-5.

I was able to quickly learn how to use this unit without reading the manual. Most of the settings and controls are right in front of you so it is extremely east to make changes. If fact this was the determing factor in deciding to purchase the Korg AX1000G.

Sound Quality : 7
None of the multiple effect units I tried are great when it comes to sound quality, the Korg is no exception. Unfortunately digital effects while enhancing the capabilities of your amp also have a detrimental effect on sound quality. Some of the distortion presets are noisy especially when used with a single pick-up. As in all the digital effect units I tested some presets are better than others and some tweaking is required to improve sound quality. For the most part all of the effects (Reverb, Chorus, Delay, Flanger, etc ...) worked reasonable well.

Reliability : No Opinion
For the most part the unit appears solid with the exception of the display - it is not very well protected.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Korg.

Overall Rating : 8
I looked at the Yamaha DG Stomp, Digitech RP100,200,300 and Zoom products. They all sound slightly different however I would be hard pressed to say one of these units sounds better than the others. The reason I selected the Korg was ease of use, price and I wanted a unit that had a useable acoustic simulator. The features I liked the most were the acoustic simulator and the "Individual" mode. The individual mode allows you to select and tweak individual effects. Also having a pedal that you can assign to control volume or one of the effects is a bonus. One thing I wish this unit had was a power switch.

It's pretty easy to use, even without a manual. Still you'll need to read the manual to figure out some things (e.g. saving patches, using phrase trainer etc.). Making your own patches ain't hard at all, just experiment a bit.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using the Washburn Paul Stanley Signature Guitar and a pretty old 60W 2-channel guitar amp. Some of the factory settings are pretty noisy (especially Corn & Dyme), but I used the Noise Supressor function when making my own patches and the result is pretty cool. The distortions are surprisingly good, maybe except Tube Overdrive (sounds a bit fake to me...it's only my opinion though). All the other effects (flanger, chorus, echo, reverb, phaser, octaver, wah etc.) are pretty cool, too. I can get all the sounds I want (I play 80's rock and heavy metal - bands like Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Megadeth, Joe Satriani etc.).

Reliability : 9
I haven't used it live yet, but I've got a couple of gigs coming up with my highschool band and yes, I would use it without a backup. It's made of metal and I like it. I hope that the expression pedal wount let be down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 9
I play mostly rock and heavy metal, sometimes even blues and this unit is a pretty good match. I've been playing for like 2 years and the main thing I need is a good distortion sound. Don't go buying ZOOM effects, 'cause these Multi-FX units really suck. I would never buy an effects box made of plastic.
So, if you don't have much money and you want a good Multi-effects unit, get Korg AX1000G.

Very easy to use and a lot of fun. Don't really need the manual at all to get it working well. Going down in patches is a bit tricky though.

Sound Quality : 8
Sounds great, with the only exception that it doesn't add sustain to the notes very much (which I think I've read in other reviews).

Reliability : 4
Two weeks after I bought it the red 7 segment display starting acting up and I took it in to the store for repair. They sent it out for repair and after 8 to 10 weeks they ended up giving me my money back as it looked like it was never going to come back. Makes me feel like multi-effects boxes are disposable items after the warrany is up. Took the money and bought an amp instead as at least they are repairable.

Customer Support : 1
See reliability for my story on this one. When I hear that Korg (who never repaired my AX1000G distribute Marshall and Vox in Canada I kind of cringe that my new AVT50 never breaks down.

Overall Rating : 7
I don't own it any more as they gave me the option of cash/new unit after they took so long and did not return the original unit and hey, after that long a repair time, I took that cash.

I found it to be a lot of fun and sounded great.

It is really easy to get a great sound quickly, with almost no experience. Like childsplay to edit effects and move patches. The manual is not very helpful, but the processor does have an 'individual' mode where you can tinker and save really easily. With effects like KoRn and Guns and roses and Led Zeppelin already programmed its really quick to start!

Sound Quality : 7
I've tried a Laney TF320 and a really old amp with this unit, and it is great on the Laney and ok on the old one. It can be noisy if you want, but silent if you don't! All the effects seem to sound good as far as I have played. I ahve a Fender Squier Affinity that I use and it's perfect. As this was second hand it had some cool effects that I like, Green Day, Offspring, KoRn Guns n Roses and Blink 182, really great sounding.

Reliability : 10
I can edpend fully on this, it has a power supply with it and has a backlit display for high visibility. I would use this at a gig on it's own and be happy.

I use a cheap guitar (soon yamaha rgx420s) with Korg AX1000g and an original crybaby.
The unit is outstanding but not perfect. I think sound quality is the most important part of the review...so i'm just gonna straight things out here. The Drive...well everything here is good and usable if u know how to tweak it. The cabiner ... well good if you want it to sound like a famous amp or expensive amp.The modulation.. well some work for me and some are unuasable / useless for live playing , the chorus flanger, delay , phaser , tremolo are verygood, the pitch is and filtron is not bad but THE WAH IS VERY WEAK. The pedal... everythis is good exept the wah. The ambience is good if u want some color in your sound.one important thing, some effect like mod and pedal cant be used at the same time. The noise supresor is good but don't use it above 80 because it will extremely reduce your sound quality.Notice that i use the word extremely.

Reliability : 8
Well... a few month after i bought it the unit start to get stain especially the edges part. The knobs can be accidently turned on stages by guitar cables and that is dissaster. The progran switches is very small , weak and too close to each other especially to the bank switch. i think it was designed for thumbs not for shoes, thats make it very difficult so hit the switch on dark stage. The LCD is good for dark stage but very bad in daylight because u can't read the LCD while standing.Another major flaw is it doesn't have an on/ off switch so you have to pull the adaptor to turn it off and that is annoying . The tuner is nice in bypass or mute.

I've got a fair experience of guitar pedals, so I knew what to expect anyway, but found this much easier to master than most - I mean, the settings are right there before you eyes, on seperate knobs! I used to own a BOSS GT3, which (can be) horribly complicated, so it was a joy to get nice sounds from a couple of twiddled knobs.

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal sounds excellent. I have come 'down' from a BOSS GT-3 and I honestly find it nicer to listen to the Korg! it's quite hard to make a terrible sound on it because it's so self explanatory and simple to use. The distortions are nice, not harsh at all, and the presets are OK; they give you an idea of what can be done, and the names of the patches (Z*P*L*N, voodoo, bizkit), give you an idea of what theyre supposed to be emulating!! :)

I have gone from Radiohead to Joy Division to The Smiths to the Manic Street Preachers on this unit, and it can be very accurate with the right settings...

I use it with a Mexican Fender Strat mainly, with the worst amp ever. And it still sounds lovely.

Reliability : 10
I have had it a few days, so I don't know yet. However my mates had one for a year or so (half the reason I got one!), and his has been gigged and its still fine.

I got it pretty cheap, so understandably the fact I think it's a great pedal is a real bonus!! I'd have paid double for it, I really think it sounds fantastic, and it's nice and simple to use.

I think a pedal like the BOSS GT-3, which might sound better in certain respects, and has a lot more features, was wasted on me really, when something this cheap and this easy to use can bring me much more joy!!

This unit is pretty easy to get good sounds out of it.Even some of the factory presets are good!Editing is simple,I realy like turning a knob instaed of tring to find my way to what paramiter I want to adjust. For example if you want to change the expression pedal from volume to wah all you do is press the pedal switch, then turn the knob above to vox wah and your done.you dont have to go unlink the expression pedal from on thing and then asign it to another. Also the exp pedal can turn on/off effects with a firm press down on the pedal.even has a LED to let you know when its on or off.manual is good also. The display is back lit so you can see what the name of the patch is on a dark stage. You can rename your patches move them to where you want to,you know all the usual stuff.

Sound Quality : 9
I run this into a Crate half stack going right from guitar to the unit to the input of the head with ibanez guitars,Two Jems and a RG350.I set bass /mids/treb to 1/2 and turn the rev off on the amp.The unit is pretty quiet. If you do have noise the NR works realy well. The chorus flang delay phaser rev are all GOOD!Ring mod and pitch are ok and the talk is better than others I have heard.I play Rock Metel & some harder blues stuff with my band and this sounds like it will cut through well on stage.Im still tring to find time to get a good patch for the love of god by Mr Vai but I know its there.

I'm using a Jackson with two single coils and a humbucker, and a Fender Strat through a Fender Princeton Chorus. THe unit is never noisy with my guitars. Only probably sometimes on distortion if you have a cheap guitar like the Squire ripoffs. Overall, you can get any sound you want from Korn to Steve Vai or P.O.D. to Satriani. Everything's here. And the distortions kick ass!!! They're warm and can get really heavy if you have the right amp to go with it. It beats the ^#%#&$ out of Digitech's models and other brands. All the effects are definitely worth playing. The is okay. Way better than other multi effect boxes I heard from. THis is a best BUY!!!

Ease of Use : 9
I'll start by saying that this is an EXTREMELY easy to use pedal. My previous effects pedal was a Korg AX1G, so moving to this newer model was extremely easy.. the concept of how it works is basically the same, just enhanced. However, it is necessary to read the manual so you can know how to do the weird stuff like recalibrate the wah pedal (which I doubt many people did who wrote reviews on here bad-mouthing the wah pedal) Once I recalibrated it, it sounds VERY similar to a VOX pedal, if not exact.. you can tell a small difference, of course, because it's digital, but many people who own a VOX and who have heard me play my AX1000G, say they didn't notice any difference at all. The manual is very easy to read and has a lot of information that you would have no way of learning by just tinkering around. If you want to edit any patches, there are 2 ways of doing it: using the analog nobs for each effect, or using the digital arrow keys.. that makes it easy for both old-skool and digital-babies to figure it out.

Sound Quality : 10
I play with a BC Rich Mockingbird Platinum plugged straight into the pedal, then straight out into my church sound board.. no amps or anything.. This makes the quality-of-sound EXTREMELY important. There is NO noise at all, except a SLIGHT high pitch sound on the Acoustic effect.. but when you start playing, it cancels out the noise and sounds GREAT so it's a very small price to pay for such good sound. The effects are all modeled after vintage equipment.. you can choose a 4x12 tweed cabinet with a brit-stack distortion, univibe pedal control and plate-spring echo.. And that's exactly what they're named, not cryptic symbols and arcane runes like some other pedals <cough> DIGITECH </cough> Many of the preset patches are modeled after familiar sources (Corn, G-n-R, Monster, Voodoo) not F42 or F21 or U1 <cough> DIGITECH </cough> A friend of mine who is a hardcore guitar purist, LOVES this pedal.. he says the CORN sound (after I modified it and put it through a 4x12 tweed cab) says it sounds like a peavey 5150.. The rest of the effects are very well made.. you don't hear cheap processing when you play around with the pitch benders and auto-wahs.. they sound authentic and very nice.

Reliability : 10
I depend on it constantly without a backup, and it has not done me wrong yet. Heck, the AX1G was a great beginner pedal, and it never failed me.. I use it for recording at home now.

Customer Support : 7
Never dealt with the customer support, although I am let down that the website doesn't have more information, upgrade options, stuff like that.

Overall Rating : 10
I play backup guitar at my church.. So my playing ranges from death medal rhythm to reggae to clean acoustic to power lead to melodic harmony.. I don't have time to switch cables and stomp on 20 different individual stomp boxes to get the sound I need.. many times I have to transition from one song to another in .1 seconds, and this pedal makes it possible.
I've been playing for around 4 years now.. don't really own any other gear besides my AX1G pedal.. I'm one of those guys who normally has to sell his current guitar before he can get a new one, so a 'collection' is out of the question. I do, however, have a Fender Strat Mini guitar for practice at home or travel, but that's about as crazy as I get. :)
If this pedal was stolen I'd unleash the power of the Sith on whoever took it.. Otherwise I'd just go buy a new one.. For the price, there is NOTHING that compares.. I used to have a Digitech RP7 (for about 2 days) before I had to get rid of it and get this pedal.. I couldn't believe how hard it was to use that digitech, and it really didn't sound that good at all.. too noisy and inconsistent sound volume/quality.. This pedal smokes it like there's no tomorrow. It has stereo outputs, a headphone jack, and comes with its own AC Adapter, so you can't complain much. I DO wish it had a Bank-Down button instead of having to hit 2 buttons at once, but it's not that hard, and easy to get the hang of. This pedal, with all its capabilities, really helps me expand my creativity and allow me to do things I didn't even know were possible.

(8) Not that difficult to use. The "sample-and-play" feature took a while to get used to. I can get pretty much the sound I want just turning the (many) knobs. Have to refer to the manual sometimes. (I wouldn't throw it away !) Came with a power supply, it doesn't use batteries.

Sound Quality : 8
Have 4 electrics in the $300 and under range. Single-coil S and T's sound different than humbucker Iba., etc. Use this mostly through headphones; but it sounds good through a Crate 30w. trans. amp. (Crank up the amp's e.q.'s). Many of the distortion sounds (tube od.,classic, fat, Seattle) sound good without a cab. simulation. Some of the cabs. (2X12 black, class A, 4X12 vintage) are o.k. The stereo chorus is velvety smooth and lush ! Decent reverbs...the other stuff I don't use. Poor wah (I seldom use this either). Less output volume to headphones than my new J-Stn. Which is better ? I don't know ! The AX1000G gets certain "in-between" distortion sounds better than the J; but the J has a more "real" sounding spring 'verb...its a toss up !

Reliability : 8
Metal body, feels solid. I've owned it a little over a year now with no problems. Wish it had an on-and-off switch like the J. I don't play in a band.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have had no dealing with Korg/ToneWorks.

Overall Rating : 8
(8) The aux. input is a good feature, the J-Stn. doesn't have it. The AX1000G is a floor unit designed to be used with an amp. The J-Stn. is a smaller unit that doesn't have "stomp buttons" and is more portable. It is primarily (I gather) to be used as a direct recording device with MIDI out and other stuff. I only use it to play through headphones. Both sound similar in some ways. Like I said, the AX1000G seems to be a little more flexible with regard to distortion sounds and "cab" simulations. I'm no pro or wanna-be, just enjoy groovin' with the radio or CD...whatever my mood may be at the time...soft rock, classic rock, grunge, country, whatever... I have everything from classical music to Marilyn Manson in my collection, so go figure ! Most of it is somewhere "in-between" !
I'm pretty much into distortion + reverb so I can't discuss stuff like pitch shift, u-vibe, talk, etc. that this unit does.

This unit is very easy to use. The manual is very brief, but it didn't tell me more than what written on the face of the unit. Once I started programming my own patches, it was a piece of cake, it's easy enough to create your own. The knobs array makes it easy to play with every parameter to get the sound you want. For live situations, the individual effects mode is very nice.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using an Ibanez RG540s with Dimarzio Tonezone pick ups straight into the AX1000G and then into a PA or headphones for practice. The unit has a broad array of basic sounds provided by the amp settings, and I've been able to get most of the sounds I want out of this pedal. While I enjoy occaisionally playing with the heavier distortions, I will be using the acoustic, clean and mild distortion settings the most. In my setup, all of the patches sounded pretty reasonable. The Mod (Classic Chorus, stereo chorus, flanger, phaser) all seem to work well and give me the sound I was looking for. The reverbs also come in a nice variety and tone. The acoustic amp setting is decent, useful and sounds as good as some acoustic-electrics I have heard, especially if you add some chorus in. Hey, I can emulate vai?s sounds on Sisters with it.

Reliability : 9
The unit is made of metal that looks very sturdy, and it has a good solid expression pedal and responsive footswitches. One nice feature on this unit is it has cable hooks and paths for the input cable and the power adaptor. This should prevent accidently unplugging the unit while in use.

Overall, I really like this pedal. I wanted a portable unit that would provide all the effects I would need in one box and let me plug a CD player and headphones in for practice. I tried all of the multi-effects processors from Korg, Digitech, DOD, Boss, etc, which it is similar to this unit. The AX1000G is the only one I could find in my price range that had all of the live features I wanted.
This unit has pretty much all of the features I was looking for, but didn't cost as much as other units having the same features. I would probably buy this pedal again if it got lost or stolen.

This is a very userfriendly unit. I've used Zoom and Boss before this one, and I think the AX1000 is more userfriendly. I like the knobs very much! The manual is good, except for some bad english. It would've got a 10 if: -there had been a single pedal for going "down" in the banks (now you have to press two pedals at the same time) -if it could run by battery. -if it would have an on/off-switch.

You gotta know that you buy a multieffect, not a bunch of pedals and amps, and with that said I think the quality is very good. I haven't tried anything better for those money. I use a Strat Plus w Gold-pickups. It tends to get too high at some times, but when making a patch, you can rid of that. Sound very good both through my GK 100w and a headset. Unlike for example BossME30 it can give a good sound without amp simulation on.

It seem like a good piece of pedal. It feels reliable because of its metal casing. I would use it on a gig, I've never been picky ;-)

I play blues and rock. I've played for 'bout 13 years. I've previousley used a ZOOM9002, an 80-ish Ibanez multi and various pedals. Iv'e mostly used a GK 100w, a small Peavey Rage 15w and some Marshall Valvestates. Before buying this one I've tested a POD, ZOOM GFX-707, BOSS ME-30 and KORG AX1G. This was the one that sounded most like a real amp. In all multieffects you get some really useless stuff, but thats a part of the fun. If it was stolen I'd get a new one when finished crying.

I,m using Ibanez RG550 and a marshal half stack. So far so good. I like the distortion, and it suited me best.

it's noisy when the drive set at high setting, but it's quite enough with the noise reduct set at 6.

The sound of this mfx are fat and warm, I just couldn't believe my ear.

Yes, i can get the sounds of satriani (surfing with the aliens album), vai, santana, petrucci, nuno.

Knobs, that's all we need. Korg really knows what guitarists needs.
Among others, I think korg is the best in using knobs in mfx. I notice that digitech also use this feature to their new products.
Good job korg!!!

Sound Quality : 10
there is no deep editing, but surprisingly it sounds good.
the cabinet simulator is awesome, it has AIR parameter to adjust the cab resonance (digitech copy this feature also to their new product). The distortions are good, the best among its rival. I can get sounds of my favorite guitarists easily, santana, satriani, vai, yngwie (thanks to the wah pedal), SRV (it has tubescreamer model).
Very nice acoustic.
The vowel in the Talk pedal can be adjusted, cool.
The wah pedal needs some tweak on eq, but OK.

I?ve never trusted korg before, and this is my first korg mfx. I used to use digitech. When I decided to buy new mfx this was the only mfx that sounds above average available in the store.
I was amazed with its sound quality. Warm and fat. The tube Overdrive is the best I?ve ever heard, it spots on. I really like the variety of disto there, which gave me freedom to make any kind of sounds I can think of. The cab simulator is very useful. It enrich sounds.
I also like the classic chorus, especially in stereo, very warm and full. I rarely use mod though.
Pedal block is awesome but it will be better if it could control the drive gain.

My equipments are like everybody else. Guitar and Amps. I do believe that no matter what equipments u use, if you experienced enough you will always create your own kind of sounds. I?ve used many kinds of gear and my friends always recognize my sounds.
Make your own kind of sounds instead of others and eventually it will become part of you. Your heart and ear will guide your hands to tweak toward your own sounds.

But of course, this pedal does give you access to copy your favorite artists? sounds. Thanks to the complete disto.

Guitar multi-effect digital processor with proprietary REMS analog modeling technology. But I use it mostly for bass.

Having knobs makes adjustment easy. You need to be careful when switching parameters though because the knobs control functions for different effects, and sometimes this results in a knob pointing to a number that doesn't reflect a parameter's true setting. In addition to the knobs, you can use arrow buttons to make the same adjustments to all parameters of the effects, which is usually a little easier for general adjustments. Having said that, it's handy to use the knobs when tweaking. LED lights and the LCD display show all the editable parameters. The new AX1500G has the same intuitive layout with better ergonomics and more patch memories.

Sound Quality : 8
Most of the modulations (i.e. phaser, flanger, chorus, tremelo, etc.) are very good. The delays, reverbs and hall echoes (the Ambience section) are fantastic, especially the multi-head tape echo (Roland Space Echo) and echoplex models, and the stereo and ping pong delays are great for everything, including processing drum loops and samples.

I think the distortions suck. They're feeble and WAY too noisy at any realistic setting. Better off using a real distortion pedal into this baby since digital distortion doesn't cut it. The compressor is noisy as hell at all settings. The cabinet simulations are pretty worthless too. They remove ALL the bottom end--even at the 4X12 Tweed setting, which is supposed to resemble a Fender Bassman cab. It doesn't.

But the tape delays and classic modulations, especially the "Classic Flanger" (MRX) and the "Black" (TC Electronic) and "Orange" (MRX Phase 100) Phaser settings are dead on. Buying the real analog delays modeled here separately would cost a grand or more. These make this unit a bargain. Just keep the amp/distortion and cab settings off, and you'll avoid noise. Also, the Univibe and Traveler and pedal settings are pretty good. The sample and play mode is gimmicky. The wah is not worth mentioning.

Reliability : 10
No problems yet in 8 months. The unit comes with an 9v 500mA AC wall wart. It doesn't take batteries.

Good quality effects that don't sound digital. The amp/distortion and cab simulations are lame and noisy, but can be bypassed. It's best feature for gigs may be as a tuner. The tuner is fantastic and easy to use. The built in metronome has turned out quite useful too.

Check out http://www.midijamman.com/ for good patch info on this unit, especially if you want to find out the original effects Korg modeled for the AX1000G effects.

The best thing I like about the AX1000G is that it's extremely easy to
modify the effects. It has knobs for each parameter instead of a general rotatory button (like rp2000), so not only is it easy but very fast too. But you have to play with it for a couple days before you can get the right sound out of it.

Sound Quality : 8
My guitar is custom made (not any of this store bought shi') with seymour duncan jb jr pickups. I use a fender 112 generally.
The distortion is ok, but you have to mess around with the settings for a long time before you find the best sound.
Some of the effects can't be used with each other but it's ok. I never use any of the weird effects like mod delay (i mean who really uses that in a good song?)
I don't have any other comparisons becuz the ax1000g is my first effects unit.

Reliability : 9
Sure, i mean it's a pile of metal. The only thing that could go wrong is if you crack the LCD screen or somethin.
Well i did fuck up my AC adapter thing by accidentally hitting it while it was plugged in so the inside of adapter on my korg is shot to hell. It only works when the plug is in a certain angle.

if you're looking for a good effects pedal for your money, korg is the way to go. but if you expect anything better go for preamp processor

the things i never use on the ax1000g: the expression pedal, 60% of the effects, 95% of the model amps, 80% of the different distortions, Individual mode, phrase trainer (very shitty),

oh yeah, another things is that when you go from one patch to another, there's a half second pause and it's very annoying

At first, I was really fascinated when I read a review and some of my bandmates told me it's one good overall multi-effects processor if you can't afford to buy a Digitech. So by impulse, I bought a unit from a friend and started experimenting on it.It's very user friendly and I don't think somebody's gonna have a hard time editing because of it's analog type rotating knobs for ease of editing when ur playing live.Manual is available upon purchase.

Sound Quality : 8
Sound quality is really important to me.So far it has impressed me and exceeded my expectations. I'm using a Fender Strat with DiMarzio
pickups(PAF Pro Humbucker on bridge/HS-2 using it's top coil on its' neck position), and a Peavey Classic 30 Tube Amp.This unit excels well on its' distortions and cabinet simulations. From tube Overdrive up to Marshall stack distortion, you can hear those vintage sounds.Although this unit is not ideal for metal music because its' volume range and metal distortion types.Cabinet simulator is one of a kind and quite fine in studio.Actually Toneworks really captured vintage and classic tones on this unit.

NO!!! I WON'T USE IT IN A LIVE GIG EVER AGAIN!!!!!

I used it in a gig 2 weeks ago and WHAT THE HELL!?!&^%?! My sound SUCKS A LOT!!!! Geez this unit with a Marshall JCM Tube Amp REALLY SUCKS!!! Better not elaborate on that very embarrasin experience of a strugglin musician. My comment is you really need to test the unit first because it might not be compatible to the amp and amp settings you might select.Reliabity is missing on this decieving unit so never use it live.I would still prefer using my SansAmp and Tube screamer along with any amp because it's much safer. It really depends on the user because I'm not the guitarist type who uses lots of chorus and delay and with to reverbation. One preamp and a driver is alright with me and I try to calibrate the reverb settings on the amp.

I've been open to music since my childhood days and I think Metal is the missing link here.I'm really lookin for those crunchy metal distortions with high highs and with sufficient lows and mids. This unit is good for practice and not for live gig. It's fine enough unit because its' other features like phrase trainer, record and play, cabinet simulations, pitch bend and pitch shift.Overall vintage sound almost. If ever I lost this one I'm not gonna buy another again, I might settle for analog types of effects.

I try this pedal based on rievews at this site. No shit, they?re telling the truth? I couldn?t believe it. It took me only ten minutes to figure how the pedal works, no manual needed. To edit effects is as easy as tweaking, and all is self explanatory. In other mfxs i know, editting and playing is in different mode, you have to switch from play mode to edit mode in order to edit the effects. But with this pedal you can edit it at any modes and at any time, just tweak and you hear the sound changes. Amazing. Other mfxs should apply this feature also if they want to make their mfxs easy to use.

Sound Quality : 10
Easy to use will mean nothing if they can?t produce at least good sounds. With this pedal I can have them both. It has amazing sound. It so easy to get great sounds. I try these pedal at the shop with Ibanez RG270 Guitar through a Crate amp. The presets sounds ok, but with some tweaks I can make it better. I?ve made other visitor at the shop looking at me and they seem enjoy the sounds.
I agree with other reviewers that this pedal has complete distortions and damn?.they sounded great. I believe that distortion sound is what does really matter in mfx, coz i use it a lot.
It also has nice modulation, but seem can only use one at a time (the modulation shut off when I activated the wah pedal). Too bad, but it?s OK with me since I rarely use modulation.
The talk pedal of this unit is more flexible than of RP2000 and GFX8. It can say more than yah yah.
The wah pedal is good for some extent. Great ambeince (hey, It has tone to control the delay and reverb sound).
I give it 10 because it has great distortion sound.

Unbelieveble!!!! This is the easiest multi-effects pedal to get great sounds I?ve known. 40 preset patches and 40 user pathces that you can customize to your own taste's or completely make your own, it's easy! The manual is ok, a lot of numbers, but not a lot of explaining. I've been looking at replacing my collection of pedals, and this one suits my needs.
The bank down complaint that most people have is not really a big deal, but a separate button would make it easier.

I'm using this with a Ibanez PGM30 through a Peavey Bandit. The sound is awesome! Most of the included patches sound great, and of course you can modify them to suit your taste. Especially significant are the octave, auto-wah, and the univibe. Compared to the other mfx in the price range there is no comparison in sound quality.

I play all styles of music. This unit it is perfect for me. It has a lot of sounds for all styles of music. I have been playing guitar for 12 years. If this thing was lost I would probably buy another of these. I did extensive research including looking at Zoom 505, GFX-707, GFX8, GFX4, Boss Me-8, ME-30, GT3, Digitech RP3, RP7, and RP2000. This thing beat out all these other effects pedal for sounds and value for money reasons. Yes, the value for the money was what led me to the Korg AX1000G. It's compact, light (about 5 lbs), looks and sounds good, and is the easiest thing to program, especially "on the fly". It would be nice if it had MIDI, but I can live without it.

I found this very very easy to use. KNOBS everywhere!!! It's easy to find the effect you want without having to scroll endlessly. The preset programs are great and its VERY easy to write your own programs. I did not find pushing down 2 buttons to go down a bank to be that much of a problem, it is easy to get used to. I took this thing out of the box and immediately had a great sound to listen to. The manual is very brief but is straightforward, and most everything is self-explanatory.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this with a Ibanez RG550 and and a Peavey Classic 212 Amplifier.
The effects on this box are awesome. Its got some great distortions to choose from, and they all can be modified to your liking. This has improved my sound big-time. A few distortions can be a little noisy on my amp, but it has a noise reduction. I bought this unit because there were various sounds that i wanted (such as echo and flanger and distortions) and i couldnt afford separate stomp boxes. I got all the sounds i wanted out of this. There are a few kinda weird effects that i know i wouldn't use, but for the most part the effects are great. The U-vibe on it sounds great too. This is a great buy...I tried out others such as digitech's RP2000, Zoom?s GFX8 and GFX4, and DOD multieffect boards and they had too much stuff i didn't need, weren't as easy to use (hard to edit on the fly), and didn't even sound as good, and the Korg AX1000G was cheaper too. Damn!!!.

This unit is so damn easy to use. Nothing compare to it. It has knobs to ease your editting job instead of button. But there are some buttons for you if you like. I love being able to edit parameters without scrolling through boring menus. The manual is good but not deep enough in explaining the effects and parameters.

After using this pedal for 5 months, I still can?t believe my ear. This pedal is capable of copying almost every sounds I?ve heard. I don?t really familiar with tube sound, but the fact is, I can copy sounds of many famous guitarists which I believe using tube sounds.
All of distortions in the drive-amp block are useful, compare to RP2000 or GFX 8 which I found only some of their distortions are useful.
Surprisingly korg has complete distortion, from blues to deathmetal, SRV to Metalica. So, no need external distortions. That?s because they modelled effects instead of amps. That?s all we need, isn?t it ?? a box full of useful effects which way too expensive to buy seperately.
Some of the reviewers said that the disto isn?t sound good through headphone, I agree, but I solve this by using the ambience at proper settings (using echo+plate with 31ms time, 0 fback, 8 to 10 tone, 10 echo, and 4.0 reverb).
I don?t use modulation much, but they are there when i need them. It has nice and warm chorus, flanger and phaser (i wish there was a mix balance between dry and effected sound) . Good awah, filtorn is fun to play with, lovely tremolo (i use this with delay to create repeated auto volume swell).
I can live with its wah pedal (?coz I rarely using it). Talk pedal is fun, Ring mod is nice to vary my play if (use it properly). Tap delay, I still don?t how to I use it in real life.
The Sampler and metronome help me a lot improving my skill.

Wow, this awesome pedal fulfill all my needs.

Extremely easy to use... I had it sussed out within an hour. Knob-based interface is limiting, ultimately, but very intuitive and simple to use. I downloaded the manual from their website, but it is fundamentally useless...

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quality is very, very good. Superb, for the money. Within a couple of hours of owning it, I had programmed a dozen sounds that were all very nice, very convincing. I was even able to write a patch that almost precisely emulates my Mesa/Boogie Dual Calibre DC-2 combo. Unreal. This thing is going to be a blessing for recording projects...

Further, the effects are warm and natural. Nothing grainy or overtly digital-sounding about them. Yes, it does suck that you can't use a modulation effect and the wah at the same time. This truly blows, to be sure. But be fair, now! This is a three hundred-dollar machine, and your money would be quite well spent even if it didn't have an expression pedal at all! Some of the distortions suck, as do some of the cabinet emulations. Most of them, however, do not. The ones that don't suck are lush, three-dimensional, and stunningly amp-like.

Reliability : 9
It seems to be built solid. It is made of seemingly high-guage steel, which is a welcome departure from some of the Korg's competitors, which case their boxes in molded plastic. The expression pedal is sturdy, also made of metal, and is covered in grip tape. Nice.

I am the guitarist in an original band that plays heavy rock. I've been playing for seventeen years now, and I have played through just about every effect and amplifier known to man at one time or another. For the money, this thing is awesome. I am not about to list all the gear I own (in addition to my guitars, amps, and the like our band also owns a pretty well-equipped project studio). The two main applications this thing will see from me are: (1) as a practice tool at home, plugged into my stereo system. I am not a big fan of effects, unless they are so subtle as to not be noticed. But at home, I can pile on all the delays, reverbs, and choruses I want and have a ball with it. It's inspiring. With the band, whether it's rehearsal, recording, or performing, I use no effects at all- just guitar into head into cabinet. The second use I will put the Korg to is in recording. It sounds very, very convincing- as good as the POD, anyway- and it is a great option to have when you get tired of moving mics around. In recording, I would strip all the effects away from whatever patch I am using, and just throw down. If it were lost or stolen, I would replace it. It is not as powerful as the Boss GT_5 (or even the GT-3), or the Digitiech RP2000, but it sounds so tough and muscular and is so easy to program that I would say it's a better value. It sounds just as good as any of the other units, and better than a lot of them. I like this thing a lot.

Out of the box its easy to use, easy to get sounds out, easy to edit patches, but the important thing for me was to fight the urge to ignore the manual, it really is a good idea to spend about a 1/2 hour quickly going thru it. Getting the most out of the unit comes in personalizing the patches, actually for the thats where the power of the unit came thru....by the way they recently announced an upgrade the AX1000G looks like some minor upgrades

bottom line you can get sounds out of this easily but read the manual so you can get the most out of the unit

Sound Quality : 8
using this with Gibson LP Custom, Hamer Import Archtop, Aslin Dane Strat Copy, Taylor Big Baby Acoustic thru either Mesa Mark IIB or Fender Princeton or Direct thru a PA

The unit is a little loud and hard to control with most of the factory preset patches on the front end of the amp and thru the FX loops, this is where i started to check the manual out to edit the patches (and come up with your own; 40 user patches) simply to reduce the volume; discovered (for me anyway) i like it best when i turned off the amp and cab sims when i am playing thru an amp. The effects really shine at that point; great chorus, echo/delays, modulations fx's etc...

i find the acoustic sims are great if a little noisy (maybe i need to
experiment around with these

some guitar signal loss thru guitar loop

the more time i spend with this unit the more i can customize to get what i am looking for except for sustain....

no time delay between patches, the waw-waw is not a cry baby but themn again if i had to daisy chain all these effects it would be a chord, battery, noise nightmare;

have used the Korg AX1000G thru amp fx loop and Direct to pa....approx $250 (they are coming out with a new one in fall 2001 so this should lower price), does a nice job on delays and modulation fx's (chorus, phase shifters, tremelo, echo several types); decent noise gate; not bad on acoustic sims (a little noisy); has a lot of different distortions and amp sims that are not bad); i use the amps lead channel rather than amp sims or distortion (turn off the amp sims and cabs) and find the fx are more responsive and realistic (buts that is just my personal preference)

used it direct without an amp (good pa and monitors and pro soundman) and very impressed with the unit, i am guessing but i believe this is where you can get a lot of use out of the amp sims and cabs, my personal preferences are with an amp, but if you are in a situation where amps are not an option, this can easily do the job....

very well constructed unit (metal case)

biggest wish for improvement in the area of sustain overall, for the price, it has been fine, would reccomend that you give ax1000g a listen.....

The KORG outclasses many similar multi-fx units in this area, trust me I tried most of them! The 40 user patches are very easy to edit, all with rotary knobs (for all you stompbox fans!) and all of the other functions, such as sample and play, it's really quite easy to get the sound you're looking for.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with a Samick LS-450 (Basically A Gibson LP Custom) through a Boss EQ and a Marshall Chorus, then a Custom Peavey Stack. Acoustically it's the Yamaha FG-412S (With a top class Fishman Pickup)
through the EQ and Chorus then the AX1000G. With the Samick and the noise reduction on 7 it's pretty damn quiet, although some of the Harder metal distortions do get marginal on max drive, but it's still better than all others in this price range. The tube OD is a pretty good emulation of an Ibanez Tube Screamer (This is what it is modeled on) especially on the more subtle drive settings. The Chourus is absolutely SUPERB the only reason I keep the Marshall is cause it looks good and I can use it with another Mod effect on the KORG (NOTE: You can only use one Modulation effect at a time....big deal....??? It is when you consider that the Mod. effects are Flangers, Choruses, Phasers e.t.c I recommend buying your most used Modulation effect as your FAV stompbox, and use it to compliment the KORG. The acoustic sim is good, the compressor, v.good. The WAH is really not bad if you set it up with the rigt drive e.t.c probably 8/10 against a crybaby's 10/10. The Ambience section is also SUPERB, good reverb, some usefull echo's and it works with the acoustic like a dream and you can even use it for vocals!! IT IS GREAT! The cabinet settings need playing with to get it right but when you do.....WOOOOOWWW!!!!

Reliability : 9
It's made of metal, solid and nice and weighty. The pedals look like they could let sand or grit in though so don't go dropping it in the dirt! I would definately gig without a Backup.

Although the KORG site isn't great I agree, there are some other good sites I found after days of searching!!
Try http://www.korg-ax1000g.fr.st/english/index-us.htm for patches and some info in the new AX1500G. And try http://www.midijamman.com/ for other info. I got a good Warranty from the shop so I'm not worried.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all kinds, from R&B to Blues to Rock, The KORG's ready for anything. It's so great for the acoustic, my cheap Yamaha sounds like a couple of thousand pounds worth of Martin!! I would buy this again if it were stolen immediately. If you are still in the comparing stage then let me help you out, I extensively tested (before buying the KORG) Boss ME-30, Boss-GT3, Zoom GFX-4, Zoom GFX-8, Zoom GFX-707. For sound quality (taking value into account) this wins hands down. Admittedly the GT-3 and Zoom GFX-8 does outclass it in some things, they cost exactly twice as much!! And the Korg still has its edge over even these high priced units in certain areas.
As for the GFX-4, GFX-707 and ME-30, this is far superior, the GFX-4 has a better WAH and one or two better distortions, but it's nothing like a easy to use. I wish the KORG had the computer link up to edit patches and program the unit, like the GFX-8 and GT-3, but it's so easy to prgram anyway it's not essential. When you look at quality and value together this beats every other unit mentioned here, though the 707 can be had for #90 (bargain!) If your looking to spend the KORG price and need your choice narrowing down try the new GFX-4 and Then Try the korg, it's close between the two, but I'll take4 the KORG.

It has to be a 10 overall, an excellent product WELL DONE KORG!

Woahhhh! this unit after using a Zoom 505 is really easy to use! much more robust and sounds a damn site better too. I really like the knobs on the top much easier than some fiddly little buttons.

The sounds on this unit are exceptional for the price. i use mine with a marshall 8080(fx loop) and a strat and it does the job for me anyone who complains about the presets doesnt get it, you have so much scope to create your own sound on this unit they dont matter any way they are not all bad and it sounds great straight into my mixer for recording.

its quite easy to find a sound but i have yet to find a sound that i like. editing patches is a breeze. the manual is pretty shit though it doesn't really do much for me but you don't really need it.

Sound Quality : 9
i'm using it with an ibanez gax 70. the setting can really effect your tone and tweeking can be a big thing. most of the effects are quite effective but there are porabably better singular stomp boxes out there. i'm using a roland 405 guitar amp and this bitch get's pretty loud. the most annoying part is the sound volume differences ebtween everything. completely annoying but there is room to adjust for yourself. I really like the the metal and seattle distortions. i need a strong crunchy sound to shred away to. as for the effects the stereo delay is a trip out.

Reliability : 10
its good strong unit. throw it at your tv and you'll be playing guitar through it for the rest of your life. bilt like a freakin tank.

The site isn't very helpful at all it is kind of just a spec site. it owuld be nice to have offical patches being updated there but there is not much more support i want. the warranty company in australia is shit too the site doesn't even have the rego that the pamphlet says it supposedly has.

its good shit for my firs effects unit. my tube od was gettin a bit one sided a needed a change. for the cheapest of metal multi effects processors i think the features on the korg were quite good and great for my first effects pedal. just one thing that i really wanted..... that the freakin recording loop of 8 seconds is jus tnot long enough!

This is where the AX1000 really shines. The knobs are so much easier to use than the buttons on most other multi effect pedals in that price range. The only downside is the inabillity to use the modulation and pedal effects at the same time though. The individual effects are very versitile and the Individual Mode allows you to use the different effect banks analog as individual on/off-switchable pedals - NICE!

Sound Quality : 7
I own a Fender Jaguar with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails bridge pickup and an Eppiphone SG Custom which I've played through a vintage 50W Peavy Classic and a Marshall AVT150 head through a 1960 cabinet. My basic sounds differ quite a lot, but the AX1000G handles this reasonably well.
Some of the modulation and distortion effects are quite nice, but some are quite useless. The cabinet section is really obsolete - it really doesn't do anything you cannot do by turning a few knobs on your amp. The pedal effects are ok - you will not find anything better unless you spend alot of money on individual pedals - but the wah really sucks. For this purpose i use a Dunlop Crybaby (Don't leave home without it)
For the price the effects are nice, but i do prefer individual pedals in general.

Reliability : 3
NOOO!!! Only weeks after buying the thing, the pedal on my AX1000 doesn't work! Ive tried to calibrate it, and even had the entire pedal dissasembled in order to find out whats the matter with it but nothing works! It seems that the expression pedal is controlled by some sort of magnetic resistance-device - not a potmeter like a Crybaby wah. A shame really, as i really liked the talk and u-vibe effects otherwise diffucult to come about at a reasonable price.
Another problem arises when playing live: Those footswitches are so damn small! particulary the bank switch next to the expression pedal - You can only use the thing when playing bare footed.
I'd rate it higher though - after all its made of metal - but the expression-pedal thing just really sucks!

Customer Support : 1
There is no way of reaching the company for support.
I bought the pedal on sale in a music store so i can't get a refund or a replacement. Its a nice pedal, but i wouldn't want to spend $70 or more for a repair.

Overall Rating : 7
I'v been playing for 5 years now, playing most genres of music, though mainly rock and grunge. The AX100G offers reasonably good effects at an affordable price. I would though in time replace the pedal with analog effects.
All in all it's an exellent beginners pedal, but due to it's size and reliability i wouldn't recommend it for gigging.

i use this on my bass and boy does it kick some serious ass.. ui use a squier standard series p-bass special, into the AX1000G, then into a yorkville BM-200 bass amp. its noisy on some settings, ie: high gain effects, but that is expected. i love all the effects in this unit, esepcially the hold delay, and the "korn" preset distortion setting. i get the perfect sound from my fav badn "rage against the machine" put some tremolo and distortion on it and you can play the intro to "geurilla radio". but distortion and wah and you can play the verse to "calm like a bomb". this thing has awesome metal distortion. i use the cainet sims alot, usually the "vintage 4x12" or the "classic 4x12" with metal distortion and flanger.... this is the best processor i've ever tried. i mean its for guitar but i use it with bass, and i was blown away by its high end sound quality. my fav effects are the delay, distortions, flanger, wah's, the "talker", pitch shifter, and the cabinet sims.

this device was so easy to use,
if you know how to turn a knob, your ok...

speed editing was one of the thing I'm looking for when I buy it.
You can adjust your sound the way you want in the next 10 second,
maybe 30 second if this is the first time you open it...
nothing to do with the Roland Gt series or a Digitech.

Sound Quality : 8
Nothing will ever sound like a tube amp except the tube amp himself.
I try so many amp simulator, the sound of the Pod give me headhack,
the GT-5 sound like a cheap fuzz pedal with high resolution,
DOD and Digitech always sound like DOD and Digitech, but I'm humble in front of someone who are able to sound great with that kind of gear.

no kidding,
The AX1000G cost less then the half of the price of thoses mid range gear and sound ten time more...

I got one advice before you go to a store and try one,
don't use the factury presets, they sound like crap,
don't be afraid to sweep the knob, you will be surprise...

the device was very versatile, I create a Malmsteen kind of's lead sound, thanks to the built-in Wah...
I also create a Robert Fripp's compressed clean and a old Vox warm sound...
I got a couple of very fat and juicy rythm sound,
but I must admit, that was not the best gear to play some Korn.
but not from far behind..

the preamp and the cabinet choice was very enjoyfull,
the modulation (chorus, flanger) was ok, not great..
and the reverb sound a bit poor...
the real high quality was in the cab and preamp...
but do no believe that will sound like a real amp...

and please, if you buy anything like simultor, don't put the overdrive of your marshall in the blend... that kind of devide was made to be direct in the mixer, that is where you will have all his quality...

Reliability : 6
as a solo recording multi-instrumentist, it cost me alot to build my kit, Bass and gear, keyboards, DAW, mics and now guitars and gears...

so, that device was very usefull for me, I use it not only with my guitar, but also on the keyboards and voices,... mostly for the different wah mode...

I use it only in studio session for now. So, when trouble appear, these is no stress..
cause something the was pedal give it up, it work for a fews minutes and without any reasons the pedal was die...
so, I must close and re-open it.
kind of problem must be critical in a on stage situation.
better bring your Morley...

I use the AX1000G for many music styles, from insdustrial techno, Rock, newage, pop, country and I now use it in a Power Metal session...

I must admit I'm not the next guitar god, I truly a Bass player for 10 years. But my guitar player friend was surprise by the sound of that grey box. one of them as sell his GT-5 to buy a AX1000G a couple days after he try mine.

with no doubt, for that price, you will never be able to sound better and bigger then that with anything else...
everyone who already have a Digitech, Zoom or Roland preamp, you must take a look to that little beast...
of course, If you already have a TriAxis's mesa, Legacy's carvin or a Bogner you just don't need that.,

but if you are out of budget or like me you need some drive for your studio, that was made for you...

I use it with my Godin ST4 direct in my mixer with my Lexicon reverb
and I got very good results...

but if you have the cash to buy a amp, by the amp...

Yeah, its really easy to dial in effects, but in a hurry you could easily get confused, and the slight delay to switch between settings is really damn annoying during live playing.

Sound Quality : 3
What the hell is everyone on this thing talking about? I hate this pedal! It's noisy as hell through every single amp I've ever run it through. Also, the signal is REALLY compressed, which means at high gain settings you get this annoying "spongy" sound and a constant fuzz. Plus, this thing has NO, I repeat, NO HIGH-END!!! I played through a P.A. system through this pedal along with someone playing through a Boss multi-effects, and could not be heard at all. I was all bass and he was all treble, which gets really annoying when you can't hear yourself. Plus, the majority of the effects, especially the wah and pitch shifter, are really weak.
--one good point--this thing is great for direct recording, but I wouldn't use it live

Reliability : 5
It's solid metal, but the patches are hard to hit they're so small and then there's the delay thing...

What's the point of buying something if it sounds terrible after a while? Do some research on the sound you want, and get some specific amp/pedals to do it--multi-effects are way overrated.

My major problem is the fact that the bank switch is too near the pedal, making it difficult to access when I have large shoes on. I like the feel of the pedal though, even if it is rather small since it is a little bit stiff, much like my old DOD pedal. The knobs are great and so is the interface.

Sound Quality : 9
Its very quiet and since I don't use distortion very often (except for some overdrive) I have no complaints about noise. I just tried playing the unit through a Peavey 5150 and it came out pretty crisp. I'm experimenting with other sounds now.

A very easy to use unit out of the box. Korg created a good mix of preset patches. Editing was difficult for me at first because mine came without a manual. After a few nights of playing with the editing feature I figured it out. Overall it is a straight forward effects pedal. Using knobs insted of buttons is a very nice touch.

Sound Quality : 8
I have used my AX1000 with a number of different setups. I purchaced the unit in the summer of 2000. I have run it through my peavy KB150 (yes it is a keyboard amp, but it is pretty valuable for jaming with buddies in the condo basement. Sounds good at low volumes, and has 3 imputs with seperate vol and eq's it was a good $100 envestment)I have run it in front of my Marshall JCM 900 100 watt half stack, and I am working on a rack setup using a ADA MP1 and a solid state Carvin power amp. I want to see how it sounds through the MP1 effects loop. The Korg has sounded great through my Marshall and the practice amp. Very little noise. I have jacked up my marshall somewhere in the 8's on the clean channel and used the korg's solid state distortion to get kind of a Dimebag or 90s Death Metal sound and the Rig wasn't noisy at all. The heavy metal dist is somewhere between with a dod american metal and a boss Metal Zone. It's all how you have it set. I've owned both of those pedals and that is my opinion of the sound. Some of the effects are not the greatest sounding versions that I have ever heard. The korg is not going to replace a vintage crybaby wah or a digitec wammy pedal. But for $300 new it is great for a player who wants the effects but cant afford them all. ( that includes prob. 90% of us.)

I did notice that the unit did effect the sound of other pedals tht are run in line with it even when on bypass mode. I would not reccoment using this pedal with other pedals in the loop. It really cuts the signal down. That is one reason I am toying with putting it in the effects loop and only using it for delay, chorus ect.

One thing i almost forgot, the AX100G is a great tool for practicing through headphones! It's headphone sound is a 20! If any of you guys have girlfriens that hate your music and ask you if you know any "Faster Pussycat" tunes. The Korg is a super tool for practicing with headphones.

I feel that the unit is reliable it has a solid construction. I wouldn't drop it down stairs, but you get the picture.

Overall Rating : 8
Overall the pedal is a 8 it's a lot of pedal for the money. I've ben playing for 12 years and have used a lot of gear

THE KORG AX1000G DOES HAVE ONE MAJOR FLAW!

The pedals are pretty bad
A: Very small about have the size of a dod pedal. pretty tough to hit.
B: Major gap in the sound when you swich effects ie: going form clean to distortion You have to hear it to know what i'm saying
C: THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT in order to bypass the unit you have to press the pedal that you are currently using and wait for about 2 seconds then it bypasses. Next time you play your favorite song where the song goes form heavy to clean and you want to use one of your other effects for the clean Imagine having to press and hold the distortion pedal, and in 2 seconds the distortion turns off by its self. It is not easy to time.

Now this is not a problem if you set up a patch on the same bank for your clean sound. But if you want to use other effects processers for other sounds the bypass is bad. I would have liked korg to set up the pedal different. It would be nice to just click the pedal a second time to enable the bypass. Or to be able to set the wah pedal to control the level of the pedals mix. That would be a great feature!

I wasn't sure where to put that part but it is a very annoying feature and i needed to list it

This thing is pretty easy to use. Most of the presets suck, but it's not very hard to make your own. Especially if you have used multi- effects pedals before. The manual is real basic and easy to understand.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Fender Standard Fat Strat and an old fender Bassman amp. It sounds incredible. Most of the distortions are awsome, although I did find it difficult to get some good blues tones out of it. But for pure rock it is great. I really like how transparent the bypass is. I also have a Zoom pedal and it is noisy as hell when in bypass. Most of the effects are great. The reverbs and delays are awsome. The phasers, chorus, flanger, and filtron are all great effects. But some of the pedal effects are wierd and useless, unless you are into techno music and funk. The ring modulator, traveler, and talker are all stupid. But the wah is O.K. and the Uni-Vibe is outstanding with the right distortion. The "tallica" preset is amazing. I wold give it a ten but it is hard to get a good mild chruch sound out of this.

Reliability : 10
This is built like a tank. Made out of steel and the buttons and knobs are all of the highest quality. I think that if I dropped this thing off of a ten foot stage it would be just fine.

This thing is great. It is the final piece of equipment I need to get the ultimate classic rock guitar sound, and many other sounds for that matter. I have been playing guitar for about 6 years and this pedal is the best effects pedal I have ever seen or used. Not only can you get so many great sounds out of it, it provides a variety of song writing and learning tools. The sample and play function is incredibly useful for writting lead guitar parts. But I wish it could sample more than 8 seconds, twice that much would be perfect. If this were stolen I would probably buy it again, unless Korg decided to make one that could do the "Vox wah" and "orange phaser" at the same time and "Sample and play" with reverb (this is my only major complaint about the product).More than 8 seconds of sample time would be nice to.

This is the easiest one that i've tried yet. I was editing patches almost immediately after bringin it home. The manual was alright (if you like reading them) but I figured just about everything on my own. Some things you'll have to read about, like the metronome and sample and play features

Sound Quality : 9
it's noisy on the factory presets but hey, that's what the 40 user banks are for. other than that its great. I'm just using a practice amp at home with this so i don't really use the amp modeling. I think the strongest distortion is british stack. The phasers perform good and the flange takes a little tweaking but once you get it, you got it.

This thing complements just about any style. (ALMOST FOR YOU WEIRDOS OUT THERE) well, i play a lot of collective soul so that'll take some tweaking to get it right but i'm workin on it. My favorite feature is the 40 user banks you can set up yourself. I've set up a patch for different songs i play and the ability to rename em is cool. I think the led is too small for stage. for all those people who complains about the holding one button and hitting another for scrolling down, you lazy bums!!!! How easy do you want it? I'll be honest, i really wanted a digitech rp-2000 but the editing on that thing is way more difficult than tha ax1000g. plus this thing has knobs which make it really easy on the hands. If any one has cool patches let me know.

Reasonably simple. I like using knobs, but you have the option of using the little chicklet keys. The manual is OK, but on the short side. I'd have liked them to include some more in depth explanations for some of the effects and some suggested settings.

Sound Quality : 7
Some things sound very good, some are ok and some are useless. I've used it with a US Strat Plus, a Nashville Power Tele, a Danelectro U2 and a DeArmond M-65C.

One major benefit is the incredible array of effects. Just about anything you could want is here, although some sound better than others.

The arrangement is a little funny. There are 5 banks of effects and you can use one of each, though not modulation and pedal at the same time. Drive-Amp, Cabinet, Modulation, Pedal and Ambience.

Some of the drive settings are interesting, but others are weak. The major drawback is the inability to get a decent clean sound. Cranking back the drive on one of the channels lowers the level so much that this thing looses most of its use. I like the Seatle and Tube OD sounds. The accoustic simultor is cool too. Kind of makes your guitar sound like it has a piezo pickup. Output is too low though.

The cabinets really don't do that much. They will boost the volume a bit and some of the larger speaker models add some depth.

The modulation bank is the best in my opinion. The Phasers and Chorus' are really good for the most part and very adjustable. The octave divider is OK and the filtron is fun to play with. The pith shifter is terrible. Worst I've ever heard and the Autowah is pretty weak.

The pedal section is interesting. The Univibe is passable and the talk thing is fun, but not that usefull. I don't know why the ring modulator is there. Does anyone ever use this? The Vox wha is weak. The real problem here is the pedal itself. It has 2 major problems. The on-off switch rarely works. I don't know what Korg was thinking. The other is the range. It seems to almost be on/off rather than a smooth flow. These issues need to be addressed.

Lastly is the Ambience section. Delays and reverbs. These should be split to seperate banks. The reverbs are pretty good, but sound a little flat without tweaking. The delays are good and there are lots of variations.

There are some really good, usefull sounds, but many are intollerable. The biggest problem I have is the output level. This thing must be primarily designed to be used stand alone, because it just doesn't put out enough volume to drive an amp. This is also inexcusable.

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems well built. I'd use it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hate Korg's website. Never dealt with them for anything though.

Overall Rating : 7
I play all sorts of stuff and this thing is fun to play with, but I don't consider it a serious tool. I could never use it live because of the output levels. A lot of these effects need to be split up into different banks too. The fact that you can't used the modulation and pedal banks at the same time bites. No Chorus and Wha at the same time?

As I said fun, but not really great. This would be the perfect thing for a beginner to use in a bedroom. Actually a POD would probably be better for that, though it wouldn't have the diversity of this thing.

Since the Korg models vintage pedal distortion boxes and a few amp models it is different than the Boss, Digitech and Zoom units which model amp distortions. I find that I like the Korg distortions which go from classic rock to metal sounds. The metal distortion reminds me of the Boss HM pedal. I can't get a great clean (Fenderish) sound with the Tube OD setting, it is ok but doesn't compete with my Flextone. I run this into the effects return on my Flextone. The cabinet sims are cool in the effects return. This is one cool feature being able to select the cabinet. I like all the vintage effects too. The echoplex and mutron settings rock. The Vox wah is good, the ocatave is cool, all the effects sound really really good.

Very easy! I've used Korg pedals for years (from A5 to AX30G)and it's good to be able to access knobs rather than having to get into the patches by using dials and punching buttons. I've not had to do a great deal of editing as yet - although I've got some nice patches sorted out- but clearly the trade-off with this newer model is that you can't get into the wonderful world of pre EQ, tweking etc. Horses for courses...and if you're gigging, surely all you want to do is have quick access.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Fender US Strat into an old Marshall Valvestate 8080 (soon to be upgraded to an AVT2000). I agree with other reviewers that it's a pity that Pedal and Modulation can't be used at the same time; and the Parameter pedal doesn't control the same number of effects as on the old AX30G (e.g. mike placement, depth of flange etc - it's main function is that of volume pedal. My other niggle is that the sample and play function doesn't work - no matter how hard I pressed the damn pedal I couldn't engage the little button! Must say that the feel of the pedal itself is good.As for the sounds of the original artists, the jury is out - the Korg's Jimi Hendrix patches have always sounded like mush to me - (send advice, fellow guitarists or KORG!)I don't need to sound like LIMPBIZKIT!

I'm into my 30th year of noodling (soul, blues mainly)and the Korg suits me. It would be nice if Korg could finally bite the bullet and produce a pro-spec floor unit (ie like B*S*) with no half measures (like the up/down feature)I'd be prepared to up-grade and pay the extra: as a world class producer of keyboards they should be able to cut the mustard. One tip to other users - always try the patches out alongside a backing track - many sound "wrong" on their own, whereas the sound is designed to be part of the mix. I've had a few dodgy moments when we're gigging and that elusive sound disappears, so practise in "anger". Oh yes, where are the patchmeisters that used to consort about the AX30G? All good patch suggestions/sites gratefully received!

This thing is the easiest way to make sounds. You've got to ve a fuckhead to not know how to use it. The manual is pretty specific and direct. Knobs, knobs, knobs. Just read and start playing.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using a Ibanez JEM 555 and a Marshall Valvestate VS100R. It makes noise only on the acoustic simulator and when you have the noise reduction on "0" (By the way really good system of noise reduction, It only compromises your sustain when you put the NR level at more than 8).
The major part of the effects are great. Really organic delay (THE BEST DELAY I'VE EVER HEARD) and chorus. The reverb seems pretty digital, though. The wah and pitch shifter are not good, but usable. The distortions RULE!!!! The classic distortion really helps when you play Zeppelin or Beatles, and the METAL DISTORTION takes you to Dream Theater and Vai dimensions. YOU KORG BASTARDS!!! YOU DON'T LET US USE WAH AND PHASER AT THE SAME TIME!!! BAH!!!!
The FILTRON (ENVELOPE FILTER) is really cool. You can make it sound like a bunch of ducks or like a 70's-hendrixian kinda effect.
"I don't like the cabinet emulations, bla, bla, bla..." (Maybe that's because you're using a combo, you fucking idiot)
If you buy the AX1000G, buy a CryBaby 535QC and a DigiTech Whammy too, and you'll be in heaven.
AND YOU CAN DRIVE PEOPLE MAD WITH THOSE CRAZY VENUS MINDBLOWIN' EFFECTS!!!! (TALKER, TRAVELER, RING MODULATOR, U-VIBE!!! And combine them with your craziest delay, there you go!!!)

This thing is the thing to create your own sounds. Don't come here and tell me you wanna sound like someone else, you dumb-fuck.

As far as tweaking settings, its terrific, compared to the typical finger-numbing buttons on Digitech and others. I find it a breeze to dial in a setting during a song if I want to experiment in practice.

I wish it had one more stomp button on the bottom row so I didnt have to use the awkward bank up/down motions.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with a PRS CE-22 and a Fender Princeton Chorus. After a bit of experimentation I have made it virtually noiseless, which I appreciate. I use a Morley Bad Horsie Wah, too.

Actually, I have a question for others. I have experiemented with A) Using the 2 channels on my Fender to go from clean to distortion using the Korg for effects and a boost during solos and B) keeping my amp on the clean channel and using the Korg for everything.

Please write me with your thoughts on this. I realize its what you hear that counts, but I seem to like one for a while and then play with other set-ups. What do you folks do???

Otherwise, I am very happy with the sounds in general. I play a bunch of different styles and appreciate the flexibility this box gives me. I also found the wah and a couple other effects lacking, but sometimes that is just personal preferences.

The thing is set up with stompbox-like knobs and punchpad controls, so its easy to figure out. Most of the effects are easy to figure out, but I never could get a handle on the "hold and play" repeating stuff. Maybe I'm just lazy, though.

Sound Quality : 4
This thing has virtually no high end. I've played out of Rogue, Washburn, and Marshall amps, and direct into PA systems, and I always had the trouble of either no high end or way too much feedback. It has a variety of distortions, but if you can't hear any of them, what's the point? The cabinet simulators compress the signal and tweak the sound a little bit, but cut some of the distortion, too. The chorus, flanger, and delays (like 10 of them!) all sounded good, but the pitch shifter hella sucked. So does the wah, and the talker effect. My main problem with the thing was a lack of high-end. I just couldn't hear myself when I played with somebody else. And since sound is really all that counts...

It's the easiest multi-effect to use.
You turn the buttons as on an analog pedal.
The manual is clear and you don't really need it.
But experiment 1 effect first then, when you can control it, add a second that you know how to control too and so on.Then it will sound good.

Sound Quality : 7
It has a great noise gate so no problem, just sometimes, when it's on the max it can suck your sound.Effects are good not great. You can get good sounds and for the price you can't make better.
I love RadioHead and it's easy to get a good radiohead sound.
But it will never sound as good as pedals.
All effects are as good.
It's funny to have some new effects (Talk and Traveler).
It sound much better on a PA than on my amp...
You can't add a PEDAL with a MODULATION; so bad...:-((

It's the better m-e for the price and you've got a lot of sounds.
If you like a band then try to know what pedal they use and buy the same thing ;it's as expensive as buying a new multi-effect.

This is my 3rd multi-FX unit. Stereo/Mono output, headphone output, AUX input. When you are changing a perameter the ORIGINAL setting is marked of each individual perameter is marked. For example, if the original setting of your depth was set to 5 and you turn it to 10 and then down to 1 when you scroll past 5, "org" will light up meaning original setting. This way you never get lost. This is greate for editing your own patches and comparing where you are to where you were.

I would give it a 10 for the money. $300.00 mail order. A dual processor is the only way that I know of to make a seamless change. Digitech Artist 2120 $950.00 mail order including pedals and endless nights of computer programing has dual processors and dual tube preamps.

I use a Fender Squier Strat with 57/62 re-issues and a 68 Telecaster (CAR - original). Definitely sounds better with noiseless pick-ups. I play through a Fender Princeton Chorus amp. I play in an Elvis band (lots of reverb, echo and tube OD) but I like to play Dick Dale, the Ventures and SRV. The unit works best on stage with a good sounding amp set at that perfect setting when the amp sings. The hall reverb, the multi head echo, black phaser, classic flanger work great. The vox wah-wah works good at "stage levels". The distortions are good. The compression works great "on stage". The acoustic is fantastic but noisy (too bad). On stage "muted" tuning is great. The negative aspects are: slow switching between patches (I hate that), the by-pass is poor, the cabinets aren't usable on stage and no midi.

I play Elvis, SRV, the Ventures, Stray Cats and Country. This unit covers it all. It sounds much, much better on stage than in my room. It would be nice if it had seamless switching, midi and unrestricted effects combinations but then the cost would be triple. I also tried Line 6 amps, the POD and RP2000. They were fine also but cost was the main difference. It definitely has added to my playing but in the future I will probably upgrade to a seamless unit or just use Boss Compression and Digital Delay pedals with my amp's distortion, chorus and reverb.

this should be a piece of cake for anyone who knows their stompboxes, and much easier than the average multiprocessor even for those who *don't* know a phaser from a tazer. the knob-thing finally seems to have caught on in a big way in the guitar-processing sector of the MI industry, and this device uses them to great effect (no pun intended). if you've got this box and you end up using the factory presets, you should be shot. there is NO excuse for not doing your own programming when the rewards are so great and the interface is as easy as this one.

Sound Quality : 7
i wrote an earlier review in which i mentioned the frustration of not being able to use two "modulation" effects simultaneously. this is still the most obnoxious, infuriating aspect of the 1000G's design, and i have a hard time forgiving korg for saddling an otherwise powerful box with such a ridiculous, shortsighted limitation.

you may not see why i'm angry until you note that modulation effects include chorus, wah, modulated delay, filtering, tremolo... you name it. an envelope filter through a square-wave tremolo? wah with phaser? sure, i'd love to do it. i can't without using another stompbox or multi-FX unit. uh, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a multi-FX box with modeling and "individual" switching capabilities (i.e. it can act like a pedalboard)?

i've spent some serious time programming on this unit, and not a day goes by when i don't damn the souls of korg's R&D department to neverending torment for their CPU-stinginess. you hear that, korg? HELLFIRE UPON THEE. ETERNAL HELLFIRE.

that said: the box sounds pretty good overall, compared to its peers. chorus, delay/tape echo, and most of the other modulation effects are pretty good and warm (the filter algorithms, however, are a little on the harsh/tinny side). the built-in sampler is practically unusable because it's tied to the hard-to-activate footpedal, and many people have alluded to the fact that the wah ain't too great. i miss the squarewave tremolo from the AX1G; actually, many of the effects in this box are the exact same as the 1G algorithms, with additional control over certain parameters. ironically, it appears as if the new 100G may have some new algorithms contained therein.

as for the amp-modeling aspect, the thing will do in a pinch, but it's not the end-all-be-all of amp modeling devices. look to yamaha for that. but as a *stompbox* modeler, it does a decent job-- the overdrive is passable and a few of the heavier distortions are usable with some serious fine-tuning time. (a response to some of the idiots below: when playing through an amp, turn the cabinet modeling OFF. this option is for direct recording, not for turning your practice amp into a 4x12.) sadly, if you want a clean tone, you'll be pretty much forced to play through the compressor algorithm to maintain any level at all. go figure.

you *will* lose tone going into this box. keep in mind that your signal is going through an A/D and D/A before it gets back out to your amp. this is true of all devices of this ilk. the 1000G does a better job of maintaining your tone than other such processors, but it's still far from perfect. it would be REALLY nice if they could arrange for true-bypass. it could be done.

i have created one unconventional signature sound on the 1000G that i used for literally an entire album. i've come up with numerous other things ranging from totally cliche to far-out, and the 1000G normally performs quite well in all these capacities. the user interface speeds creativity for the "artiste," or if you've got no personality, you could easily use this to imitate all your favorite players' sounds. (you could also shove the 1000G right up your fender-playing, tab-reading, korn-zep-and-dave-matthews-band-loving ass.)

Reliability : 9
the box has been powered up almost nonstop since i've had it (nine months?), and gigged a few times. so far, no hiccups.

a recommended purchase, with the following caveats:

a) if you are attracted to the advertised amp modeling on this unit, purchase a yamaha DG stomp instead. trust me.

b) if you like freakish sounds, consider the purchase of three AX1Gs rather than the 1000G. the editing suffers, as do a *few* of the effects, but you will have much more processing power overall with this admittedly ludicrous setup. (note: do not expect to use the 1G on a dark stage.)

c) korg: SMACK. give us the "modulation." lots of it. now.

now, dammit.

Programming this thing is dead easy. The manual is minimal, but tells you everything you need to know. It has knobs, and they pretty much correspond to the knobs on the stompboxes they are modelling, so dialing in a good sound is as easy as it was with my old boxes. I had it pretty much set up to my liking in less than 30 minutes. While I usually run a direct box out of my amp, I also tried going directly from the AX1000G to the board. That seemed to be the best setup for me, as it allowed me to control my stage volume and tone without coloring the effects. It sounded great either way, though. The inclusion of an AC adaptor was a good selling point. Also, the unit I bought had been returned by someone else, and had a few odd patches that the previous person had tried to program. Reinitializing the unit is a snap, but does require you to read the manual. That's a good thing, because I would hate to be able to accidentally reinitialize it and lose all of my own patches.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using a Gibson Nighthawk Standard and a Mesa/Boogie DC-5. I usually run the recording output of the Mesa into the board via a direct box. At my last gig, I tried running guitar-effect-amp-di and guitar-effect-di-amp and had great sound quality either way. I ended up settling for the latter, as it allowed me greater control of my stage volume without giving the sound man a big headache chasing my volume settings. Some of the more distortion-oriented patches hiss a bit, but with the noise reduction dialed in, you can pretty much nip that in the bud. The sound out front was really full and lush, and had lots of life. The noise reduction settings are critical, as I had dialed in a little too much at first and ended up losing some sustain. It was very easy to fix, though, thanks to the knobs. I really dig the vocal effect used in the "BISKIT" patch. The distortions are, well, distortion (you really have to work at it to screw up a distortion box). The chorus models are very full sounding, and the phaser is a dead-on MXR replica. It has a really hip MuTron-type envelope filter (auto wah) which is fun to use during our 60s medley. The wah, while not a Crybaby, is pretty good. Anybody who has had problems with it might try recalibrating their pedal. It's easy to do, and the manual gives good instructions. I play in a country/rock cover band, so I need to be able to get lots of different sounds for the different styles we play. This unit really delivers. Of course, it really helps to have a good working knowledge of the effects used so you know what to tweak. As a 20+ year veteran of stompboxes, I found it pretty easy. If you haven't dealt with stompboxes, I could see where you could possibly get overwhelmed. The amp models aren't perfect replicas, but they're close enough that only a major purist could tell the differences.

Reliability : 9
I brought my boxes as a backup last night, but they ended up just being dead weight. The unit is built tough. If I could change anything, I would have put some kind of rubber membrane over the pedal on/off switch, as I could see gunk could get into the unit through the hole. Other than that, I don't foresee any problems with it. I treat my stuff pretty carefully, but I think it could take some abuse without any major heartache.

Customer Support : 9
Can't say, but I've had Korg stuff in the past and only had to contact them once, back in the 80s. I had a Korg keyboard go bad, and they fixed it without any hassles (it was under warrantee). I'm sure that it would be the same.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
One of the main reasons I bought this unit was because it modeled stompboxes instead of people, if you know what I mean. While it's nice to be able to sound like Van Halen, if you don't play like him then what's the point. I've been playing long enough (30 years) to have a distinctive style, so I'm more interested in coloring my sound than sounding like anybody in particular. The factory patches, for the most part, need some tweaking, but that's no big surprise. As I mentioned before, I play country/rock covers. I needed a unit that would be really versatile, yet wouldn't require a college degree to program. I shopped around for quite a while, and tried all of the different units out there, even some that were much more expensive. For me, the value for the money was what led me to the Korg AX1000G. It's compact, light (about 5 lbs), looks and sounds good, and is the easiest thing to program, especially "on the fly". It would be nice if it had MIDI, but I can live without it. If it were stolen, I would definitely get another one. If anybody has some interesting patches to share, drop me a line.

Hi Guys,
I'm hunting for my sound and I came across the Korg 1000G. I heard a great deal about it and the ratings at HC never went below 7. I went to the shop and tested the unit. I spent 2 hours with it and I left the place with digital paranoia and the feeling of nausea. The unit sucked big time and I feel it is an attempt by a keyboard manufacturer to fool the guitarist just by the size of it. If it's big and expensive then it must be good. I didn't fall for it.

First thing that decides the quality of sound in today's processors is the sampling frequency and the Analog/Digital-D/A conversion rate. Individual effects sound good as they are Analog all the way. The skimpy 8 page leaflet made no mention of this(Korg trying to hide something?) CD's are sampled at 48 Khz at 16-bit and the new recording format from Sony samples at 24-bit, 96 Khz. Zoom and Digitech mentions this and even the DSP used. Would you buy a PC without knowing which Chip is in the box?

I was looking for something to create new distortions + Compresssor. Coupled with a good Wah plus a few fancy ones like phaser, Chorus etc and a PCM Drummer. Nothing sounds close to any amp mentions instead it sounds like a keyboard distortions. Tried many guitars and amps but all I could hear was digital sound. The distortions were buzzy and farty.SUSTAIN???. The Vox-wah had no effect with distortion. The Cabinet emulator is a waste. But mainly the parameters were limited only to gain and EQ. The knobs had lights which went on and off like an electronic dice. Tuner didn't give unusual tunings. Pedal was good but you hit the bottom soon enough like any processor. Nothing like the Cry Baby feel. The presets give some flangey, echoey and repeated sounds. You sound like in a cave but who wants that reverb. These sounds might be useful to emulate Steve Vai but how many can play half as good as him.

What was Korg trying to achieve here? The 1G is great and sounds better than the 1000G. The cabinet resonator is better than the big brother's. Only the 1000g has direct access to the effects and a better pedal. But no way I'm gonna pay twice the price for something that sounds the same. I'm happy to push small buttons and program my own sound. Look what digitech and Zoom have to offer. The Zoom GFX-8 can hook up to the PC and one can create own distortions with frequency curves. There are 3-4 unique parameters for each effect. The RP100 is a small devil(cheap) and coupled with a crybaby or a Vox should go great. Atleast you know what is the sampling frequency.I just hope Korg gets it right with the 100G. My choices for now are Rp100, RP2000, AX100g, Gfx-8 or even the Gfx-707. But I'll test them thoroughly before making up my my mind. I won't be fooled by the appearence, I'll just use my ears. These models still haven't arrived in India.

I'm not a pessimist but I just wrote what I know and felt about a product. There may be many who swear by The 1000G but I'm not convinced and still looking for that sound. I feel Half your sound and 90% of your Tone lies with your guitar. Can you sound like Satriani/Vai on a Les Paul or like Mark Knofler with your Ibanez. You can but each guitar is unique and the directions they're headed is different.

Ease of Use : 10
It's unbelievable how easy this unit is to work with, editing, saving, renaming and fiddling with all kind of parameters is a breeze. I never even read the manual. (actually i dont think i got one)

Sound Quality : 6
Im mostly play a Ibanez Rg470 with Evolution pickups through a Marshall Valvestate 8240 Combo. I have other guitars aswell, like a danelectro and a new 67' Es335 but i dont use the Korg with them. I use it for the small to medium sized club gigs. Used between the guitar and the amp it doesnt sound anyway near what i want. It definitely does not sound like the tube amps it somewhat claims to sound like and for the 4x12 modern and 1x8 tweed.. well. It just doesnt gel. But thats not the point here. It may not emulate the different amps very well but it still sounds pretty good and if you are looking for a multieffect's processor with a reasonable price tag, i would say go for it. (just stay away from the wah!)

Reliability : 6
Even though the first Korg Ax100G i got was broken, Dead at arrival. the one i have now is working fine and has been withouth a backup for some twenty gigs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt with Korg.

Overall Rating : 6
I play Hard rock music, Bryan Adams type pop and top40 music.
Ive been playing for some six years.
Is this piece would be stolen i.. dont think id buy a new one. dont get me wrong now, it is not because there is something wrong with it. I simply dont use all those effects and would probably be better off without them. My favourite feature with this piece of equipment is the Delays, the reverbs and the 1x8 tweed spekare simulation!
