this device was so easy to use,
if you know how to turn a knob, your ok...
speed editing was one of the thing I'm looking for when I buy it.
You can adjust your sound the way you want in the next 10 second,
maybe 30 second if this is the first time you open it...
nothing to do with the Roland Gt series or a Digitech.

Nothing will ever sound like a tube amp except the tube amp himself.
I try so many amp simulator, the sound of the Pod give me headhack,
the GT-5 sound like a cheap fuzz pedal with high resolution,
DOD and Digitech always sound like DOD and Digitech, but I'm humble in front of someone who are able to sound great with that kind of gear.
no kidding,
The AX1000G cost less then the half of the price of thoses mid range gear and sound ten time more...
I got one advice before you go to a store and try one,
don't use the factury presets, they sound like crap,
don't be afraid to sweep the knob, you will be surprise...
the device was very versatile, I create a Malmsteen kind of's lead sound, thanks to the built-in Wah...
I also create a Robert Fripp's compressed clean and a old Vox warm sound...
I got a couple of very fat and juicy rythm sound,
but I must admit, that was not the best gear to play some Korn.
but not from far behind..
the preamp and the cabinet choice was very enjoyfull,
the modulation (chorus, flanger) was ok, not great..
and the reverb sound a bit poor...
the real high quality was in the cab and preamp...
but do no believe that will sound like a real amp...
and please, if you buy anything like simultor, don't put the overdrive of your marshall in the blend... that kind of devide was made to be direct in the mixer, that is where you will have all his quality...

as a solo recording multi-instrumentist, it cost me alot to build my kit, Bass and gear, keyboards, DAW, mics and now guitars and gears...
so, that device was very usefull for me, I use it not only with my guitar, but also on the keyboards and voices,... mostly for the different wah mode...
I use it only in studio session for now. So, when trouble appear, these is no stress..
cause something the was pedal give it up, it work for a fews minutes and without any reasons the pedal was die...
so, I must close and re-open it.
kind of problem must be critical in a on stage situation.
better bring your Morley...

I use the AX1000G for many music styles, from insdustrial techno, Rock, newage, pop, country and I now use it in a Power Metal session...
I must admit I'm not the next guitar god, I truly a Bass player for 10 years. But my guitar player friend was surprise by the sound of that grey box. one of them as sell his GT-5 to buy a AX1000G a couple days after he try mine.
with no doubt, for that price, you will never be able to sound better and bigger then that with anything else...
everyone who already have a Digitech, Zoom or Roland preamp, you must take a look to that little beast...
of course, If you already have a TriAxis's mesa, Legacy's carvin or a Bogner you just don't need that.,
but if you are out of budget or like me you need some drive for your studio, that was made for you...
I use it with my Godin ST4 direct in my mixer with my Lexicon reverb
and I got very good results...
but if you have the cash to buy a amp, by the amp...

THIS UNIT IS EASY TO GET HEAVY AND CLEAN SOUNDS BUT I'M HAVING TROUBLE

I'M RUNNING THE KORG THRU A MARSHALL JCM 900 WITH A CRATE BOTTOM.
SO FAR SO GOOD EXCEPT FOR GETTING THAT BLUESY SOUND.
THE NOISE REDUCTION IS A GREAT FEATURE THAT WORKS A LOT BETTER THAN
OTHERS I'VE USED.USUALLY I LOOSE A LOT OF SUSTAIN BUT NOT MUCH HERE.
I HAVN'T EXPLORED ALL THE EFFECTS YET,I LIKE FAIRLY SIMPLE TONES,BUT
I'M SURE I WILL.

IF I HAD TO PICK A STYLE I'D SAY KING'S X MEETS CANDLEBOX MEETS THE BLUES.I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR 15 YEARS AND JUST STARTED TAKING LESSONS
AGAIN.
THE MAIN REASON I CHOSE THIS UNIT IS PRICE.MUSIC EQUIP. IS MARKED
UP WAY TOO HIGH BUT THIS UNIT SEEMED PRETTY FAIR.

Yeah, its really easy to dial in effects, but in a hurry you could easily get confused, and the slight delay to switch between settings is really damn annoying during live playing.

What the hell is everyone on this thing talking about? I hate this pedal! It's noisy as hell through every single amp I've ever run it through. Also, the signal is REALLY compressed, which means at high gain settings you get this annoying "spongy" sound and a constant fuzz. Plus, this thing has NO, I repeat, NO HIGH-END!!! I played through a P.A. system through this pedal along with someone playing through a Boss multi-effects, and could not be heard at all. I was all bass and he was all treble, which gets really annoying when you can't hear yourself. Plus, the majority of the effects, especially the wah and pitch shifter, are really weak.
--one good point--this thing is great for direct recording, but I wouldn't use it live

What's the point of buying something if it sounds terrible after a while? Do some research on the sound you want, and get some specific amp/pedals to do it--multi-effects are way overrated.

My major problem is the fact that the bank switch is too near the pedal, making it difficult to access when I have large shoes on. I like the feel of the pedal though, even if it is rather small since it is a little bit stiff, much like my old DOD pedal. The knobs are great and so is the interface.

Its very quiet and since I don't use distortion very often (except for some overdrive) I have no complaints about noise. I just tried playing the unit through a Peavey 5150 and it came out pretty crisp. I'm experimenting with other sounds now.

A very easy to use unit out of the box. Korg created a good mix of preset patches. Editing was difficult for me at first because mine came without a manual. After a few nights of playing with the editing feature I figured it out. Overall it is a straight forward effects pedal. Using knobs insted of buttons is a very nice touch.

I have used my AX1000 with a number of different setups. I purchaced the unit in the summer of 2000. I have run it through my peavy KB150 (yes it is a keyboard amp, but it is pretty valuable for jaming with buddies in the condo basement. Sounds good at low volumes, and has 3 imputs with seperate vol and eq's it was a good $100 envestment)I have run it in front of my Marshall JCM 900 100 watt half stack, and I am working on a rack setup using a ADA MP1 and a solid state Carvin power amp. I want to see how it sounds through the MP1 effects loop. The Korg has sounded great through my Marshall and the practice amp. Very little noise. I have jacked up my marshall somewhere in the 8's on the clean channel and used the korg's solid state distortion to get kind of a Dimebag or 90s Death Metal sound and the Rig wasn't noisy at all. The heavy metal dist is somewhere between with a dod american metal and a boss Metal Zone. It's all how you have it set. I've owned both of those pedals and that is my opinion of the sound. Some of the effects are not the greatest sounding versions that I have ever heard. The korg is not going to replace a vintage crybaby wah or a digitec wammy pedal. But for $300 new it is great for a player who wants the effects but cant afford them all. ( that includes prob. 90% of us.)
I did notice that the unit did effect the sound of other pedals tht are run in line with it even when on bypass mode. I would not reccoment using this pedal with other pedals in the loop. It really cuts the signal down. That is one reason I am toying with putting it in the effects loop and only using it for delay, chorus ect.
One thing i almost forgot, the AX100G is a great tool for practicing through headphones! It's headphone sound is a 20! If any of you guys have girlfriens that hate your music and ask you if you know any "Faster Pussycat" tunes. The Korg is a super tool for practicing with headphones.

Overall the pedal is a 8 it's a lot of pedal for the money. I've ben playing for 12 years and have used a lot of gear
THE KORG AX1000G DOES HAVE ONE MAJOR FLAW!
The pedals are pretty bad
A: Very small about have the size of a dod pedal. pretty tough to hit.
B: Major gap in the sound when you swich effects ie: going form clean to distortion You have to hear it to know what i'm saying
C: THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT in order to bypass the unit you have to press the pedal that you are currently using and wait for about 2 seconds then it bypasses. Next time you play your favorite song where the song goes form heavy to clean and you want to use one of your other effects for the clean Imagine having to press and hold the distortion pedal, and in 2 seconds the distortion turns off by its self. It is not easy to time.
Now this is not a problem if you set up a patch on the same bank for your clean sound. But if you want to use other effects processers for other sounds the bypass is bad. I would have liked korg to set up the pedal different. It would be nice to just click the pedal a second time to enable the bypass. Or to be able to set the wah pedal to control the level of the pedals mix. That would be a great feature!
I wasn't sure where to put that part but it is a very annoying feature and i needed to list it

very very easy to use and to get a good sounds. Best i've ever known.
You can edit patch at any time and no need to push edit button, just tweak the knobs and you can hear the sound change.
And you know what? they let you know the original value of your current setting, so you won't get lost during editing.
No need to scroll when editing parameters. It feels like using stompboxes.

This thing is pretty easy to use. Most of the presets suck, but it's not very hard to make your own. Especially if you have used multi- effects pedals before. The manual is real basic and easy to understand.

I use a Fender Standard Fat Strat and an old fender Bassman amp. It sounds incredible. Most of the distortions are awsome, although I did find it difficult to get some good blues tones out of it. But for pure rock it is great. I really like how transparent the bypass is. I also have a Zoom pedal and it is noisy as hell when in bypass. Most of the effects are great. The reverbs and delays are awsome. The phasers, chorus, flanger, and filtron are all great effects. But some of the pedal effects are wierd and useless, unless you are into techno music and funk. The ring modulator, traveler, and talker are all stupid. But the wah is O.K. and the Uni-Vibe is outstanding with the right distortion. The "tallica" preset is amazing. I wold give it a ten but it is hard to get a good mild chruch sound out of this.

This thing is great. It is the final piece of equipment I need to get the ultimate classic rock guitar sound, and many other sounds for that matter. I have been playing guitar for about 6 years and this pedal is the best effects pedal I have ever seen or used. Not only can you get so many great sounds out of it, it provides a variety of song writing and learning tools. The sample and play function is incredibly useful for writting lead guitar parts. But I wish it could sample more than 8 seconds, twice that much would be perfect. If this were stolen I would probably buy it again, unless Korg decided to make one that could do the "Vox wah" and "orange phaser" at the same time and "Sample and play" with reverb (this is my only major complaint about the product).More than 8 seconds of sample time would be nice to.

This is the easiest one that i've tried yet. I was editing patches almost immediately after bringin it home. The manual was alright (if you like reading them) but I figured just about everything on my own. Some things you'll have to read about, like the metronome and sample and play features

it's noisy on the factory presets but hey, that's what the 40 user banks are for. other than that its great. I'm just using a practice amp at home with this so i don't really use the amp modeling. I think the strongest distortion is british stack. The phasers perform good and the flange takes a little tweaking but once you get it, you got it.

This thing complements just about any style. (ALMOST FOR YOU WEIRDOS OUT THERE) well, i play a lot of collective soul so that'll take some tweaking to get it right but i'm workin on it. My favorite feature is the 40 user banks you can set up yourself. I've set up a patch for different songs i play and the ability to rename em is cool. I think the led is too small for stage. for all those people who complains about the holding one button and hitting another for scrolling down, you lazy bums!!!! How easy do you want it? I'll be honest, i really wanted a digitech rp-2000 but the editing on that thing is way more difficult than tha ax1000g. plus this thing has knobs which make it really easy on the hands. If any one has cool patches let me know.

Reasonably simple. I like using knobs, but you have the option of using the little chicklet keys. The manual is OK, but on the short side. I'd have liked them to include some more in depth explanations for some of the effects and some suggested settings.

Some things sound very good, some are ok and some are useless. I've used it with a US Strat Plus, a Nashville Power Tele, a Danelectro U2 and a DeArmond M-65C.
One major benefit is the incredible array of effects. Just about anything you could want is here, although some sound better than others.
The arrangement is a little funny. There are 5 banks of effects and you can use one of each, though not modulation and pedal at the same time. Drive-Amp, Cabinet, Modulation, Pedal and Ambience.
Some of the drive settings are interesting, but others are weak. The major drawback is the inability to get a decent clean sound. Cranking back the drive on one of the channels lowers the level so much that this thing looses most of its use. I like the Seatle and Tube OD sounds. The accoustic simultor is cool too. Kind of makes your guitar sound like it has a piezo pickup. Output is too low though.
The cabinets really don't do that much. They will boost the volume a bit and some of the larger speaker models add some depth.
The modulation bank is the best in my opinion. The Phasers and Chorus' are really good for the most part and very adjustable. The octave divider is OK and the filtron is fun to play with. The pith shifter is terrible. Worst I've ever heard and the Autowah is pretty weak.
The pedal section is interesting. The Univibe is passable and the talk thing is fun, but not that usefull. I don't know why the ring modulator is there. Does anyone ever use this? The Vox wha is weak. The real problem here is the pedal itself. It has 2 major problems. The on-off switch rarely works. I don't know what Korg was thinking. The other is the range. It seems to almost be on/off rather than a smooth flow. These issues need to be addressed.
Lastly is the Ambience section. Delays and reverbs. These should be split to seperate banks. The reverbs are pretty good, but sound a little flat without tweaking. The delays are good and there are lots of variations.
There are some really good, usefull sounds, but many are intollerable. The biggest problem I have is the output level. This thing must be primarily designed to be used stand alone, because it just doesn't put out enough volume to drive an amp. This is also inexcusable.

I play all sorts of stuff and this thing is fun to play with, but I don't consider it a serious tool. I could never use it live because of the output levels. A lot of these effects need to be split up into different banks too. The fact that you can't used the modulation and pedal banks at the same time bites. No Chorus and Wha at the same time?
As I said fun, but not really great. This would be the perfect thing for a beginner to use in a bedroom. Actually a POD would probably be better for that, though it wouldn't have the diversity of this thing.

Since the Korg models vintage pedal distortion boxes and a few amp models it is different than the Boss, Digitech and Zoom units which model amp distortions. I find that I like the Korg distortions which go from classic rock to metal sounds. The metal distortion reminds me of the Boss HM pedal. I can't get a great clean (Fenderish) sound with the Tube OD setting, it is ok but doesn't compete with my Flextone. I run this into the effects return on my Flextone. The cabinet sims are cool in the effects return. This is one cool feature being able to select the cabinet. I like all the vintage effects too. The echoplex and mutron settings rock. The Vox wah is good, the ocatave is cool, all the effects sound really really good.

Very easy! I've used Korg pedals for years (from A5 to AX30G)and it's good to be able to access knobs rather than having to get into the patches by using dials and punching buttons. I've not had to do a great deal of editing as yet - although I've got some nice patches sorted out- but clearly the trade-off with this newer model is that you can't get into the wonderful world of pre EQ, tweking etc. Horses for courses...and if you're gigging, surely all you want to do is have quick access.

I use a Fender US Strat into an old Marshall Valvestate 8080 (soon to be upgraded to an AVT2000). I agree with other reviewers that it's a pity that Pedal and Modulation can't be used at the same time; and the Parameter pedal doesn't control the same number of effects as on the old AX30G (e.g. mike placement, depth of flange etc - it's main function is that of volume pedal. My other niggle is that the sample and play function doesn't work - no matter how hard I pressed the damn pedal I couldn't engage the little button! Must say that the feel of the pedal itself is good.As for the sounds of the original artists, the jury is out - the Korg's Jimi Hendrix patches have always sounded like mush to me - (send advice, fellow guitarists or KORG!)I don't need to sound like LIMPBIZKIT!

I'm into my 30th year of noodling (soul, blues mainly)and the Korg suits me. It would be nice if Korg could finally bite the bullet and produce a pro-spec floor unit (ie like B*S*) with no half measures (like the up/down feature)I'd be prepared to up-grade and pay the extra: as a world class producer of keyboards they should be able to cut the mustard. One tip to other users - always try the patches out alongside a backing track - many sound "wrong" on their own, whereas the sound is designed to be part of the mix. I've had a few dodgy moments when we're gigging and that elusive sound disappears, so practise in "anger". Oh yes, where are the patchmeisters that used to consort about the AX30G? All good patch suggestions/sites gratefully received!

I'm using a Ibanez JEM 555 and a Marshall Valvestate VS100R. It makes noise only on the acoustic simulator and when you have the noise reduction on "0" (By the way really good system of noise reduction, It only compromises your sustain when you put the NR level at more than 8).
The major part of the effects are great. Really organic delay (THE BEST DELAY I'VE EVER HEARD) and chorus. The reverb seems pretty digital, though. The wah and pitch shifter are not good, but usable. The distortions RULE!!!! The classic distortion really helps when you play Zeppelin or Beatles, and the METAL DISTORTION takes you to Dream Theater and Vai dimensions. YOU KORG BASTARDS!!! YOU DON'T LET US USE WAH AND PHASER AT THE SAME TIME!!! BAH!!!!
The FILTRON (ENVELOPE FILTER) is really cool. You can make it sound like a bunch of ducks or like a 70's-hendrixian kinda effect.
"I don't like the cabinet emulations, bla, bla, bla..." (Maybe that's because you're using a combo, you fucking idiot)
If you buy the AX1000G, buy a CryBaby 535QC and a DigiTech Whammy too, and you'll be in heaven.
AND YOU CAN DRIVE PEOPLE MAD WITH THOSE CRAZY VENUS MINDBLOWIN' EFFECTS!!!! (TALKER, TRAVELER, RING MODULATOR, U-VIBE!!! And combine them with your craziest delay, there you go!!!)
This thing is the thing to create your own sounds. Don't come here and tell me you wanna sound like someone else, you dumb-fuck.

I play ROCK. From The Beatles to Dream Theater. From BB King to Steve Vai. This is a good match. I have been playin' since February 18, 1998, and I never had owned such a valuable piece o' gear (From price to sound). If it were stolen, I probably would KICK THE FUCKER'S ASS and get another one with a 535Q and a Whammy.
I love the distortions, I hate the little footswitches. DIGITECH SUCKS. EVEN THE 2120.
I WISSH IT HAD DUAL DISTORTIONS AND WAH AND PHASER AT THE TIME. IT INSPIRES ME TO MAKE MUSIC.

As far as tweaking settings, its terrific, compared to the typical finger-numbing buttons on Digitech and others. I find it a breeze to dial in a setting during a song if I want to experiment in practice.
I wish it had one more stomp button on the bottom row so I didnt have to use the awkward bank up/down motions.

I use this with a PRS CE-22 and a Fender Princeton Chorus. After a bit of experimentation I have made it virtually noiseless, which I appreciate. I use a Morley Bad Horsie Wah, too.
Actually, I have a question for others. I have experiemented with A) Using the 2 channels on my Fender to go from clean to distortion using the Korg for effects and a boost during solos and B) keeping my amp on the clean channel and using the Korg for everything.
Please write me with your thoughts on this. I realize its what you hear that counts, but I seem to like one for a while and then play with other set-ups. What do you folks do???
Otherwise, I am very happy with the sounds in general. I play a bunch of different styles and appreciate the flexibility this box gives me. I also found the wah and a couple other effects lacking, but sometimes that is just personal preferences.

This thing has virtually no high end. I've played out of Rogue, Washburn, and Marshall amps, and direct into PA systems, and I always had the trouble of either no high end or way too much feedback. It has a variety of distortions, but if you can't hear any of them, what's the point? The cabinet simulators compress the signal and tweak the sound a little bit, but cut some of the distortion, too. The chorus, flanger, and delays (like 10 of them!) all sounded good, but the pitch shifter hella sucked. So does the wah, and the talker effect. My main problem with the thing was a lack of high-end. I just couldn't hear myself when I played with somebody else. And since sound is really all that counts...

It's the easiest multi-effect to use.
You turn the buttons as on an analog pedal.
The manual is clear and you don't really need it.
But experiment 1 effect first then, when you can control it, add a second that you know how to control too and so on.Then it will sound good.

It has a great noise gate so no problem, just sometimes, when it's on the max it can suck your sound.Effects are good not great. You can get good sounds and for the price you can't make better.
I love RadioHead and it's easy to get a good radiohead sound.
But it will never sound as good as pedals.
All effects are as good.
It's funny to have some new effects (Talk and Traveler).
It sound much better on a PA than on my amp...
You can't add a PEDAL with a MODULATION; so bad...:-((

I use a Godin LG and a Marshall JTM 30.I plan on getting a ShredMaster, a Nobels Tremolo, a Boss SD-1, and a Line6 Delay. It's my first multi-effect and the last one.I think that it's good to buy a multi-effect just to know which pedal you will buy later. Now that I know what I need,I'll never buy another one.
It's the better m-e for the price and you've got a lot of sounds.
If you like a band then try to know what pedal they use and buy the same thing ;it's as expensive as buying a new multi-effect.

This is my 3rd multi-FX unit. Stereo/Mono output, headphone output, AUX input. When you are changing a perameter the ORIGINAL setting is marked of each individual perameter is marked. For example, if the original setting of your depth was set to 5 and you turn it to 10 and then down to 1 when you scroll past 5, "org" will light up meaning original setting. This way you never get lost. This is greate for editing your own patches and comparing where you are to where you were.

I use a Fender Squier Strat with 57/62 re-issues and a 68 Telecaster (CAR - original). Definitely sounds better with noiseless pick-ups. I play through a Fender Princeton Chorus amp. I play in an Elvis band (lots of reverb, echo and tube OD) but I like to play Dick Dale, the Ventures and SRV. The unit works best on stage with a good sounding amp set at that perfect setting when the amp sings. The hall reverb, the multi head echo, black phaser, classic flanger work great. The vox wah-wah works good at "stage levels". The distortions are good. The compression works great "on stage". The acoustic is fantastic but noisy (too bad). On stage "muted" tuning is great. The negative aspects are: slow switching between patches (I hate that), the by-pass is poor, the cabinets aren't usable on stage and no midi.

I play Elvis, SRV, the Ventures, Stray Cats and Country. This unit covers it all. It sounds much, much better on stage than in my room. It would be nice if it had seamless switching, midi and unrestricted effects combinations but then the cost would be triple. I also tried Line 6 amps, the POD and RP2000. They were fine also but cost was the main difference. It definitely has added to my playing but in the future I will probably upgrade to a seamless unit or just use Boss Compression and Digital Delay pedals with my amp's distortion, chorus and reverb.

this should be a piece of cake for anyone who knows their stompboxes, and much easier than the average multiprocessor even for those who *don't* know a phaser from a tazer. the knob-thing finally seems to have caught on in a big way in the guitar-processing sector of the MI industry, and this device uses them to great effect (no pun intended). if you've got this box and you end up using the factory presets, you should be shot. there is NO excuse for not doing your own programming when the rewards are so great and the interface is as easy as this one.

i wrote an earlier review in which i mentioned the frustration of not being able to use two "modulation" effects simultaneously. this is still the most obnoxious, infuriating aspect of the 1000G's design, and i have a hard time forgiving korg for saddling an otherwise powerful box with such a ridiculous, shortsighted limitation.
you may not see why i'm angry until you note that modulation effects include chorus, wah, modulated delay, filtering, tremolo... you name it. an envelope filter through a square-wave tremolo? wah with phaser? sure, i'd love to do it. i can't without using another stompbox or multi-FX unit. uh, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a multi-FX box with modeling and "individual" switching capabilities (i.e. it can act like a pedalboard)?
i've spent some serious time programming on this unit, and not a day goes by when i don't damn the souls of korg's R&D department to neverending torment for their CPU-stinginess. you hear that, korg? HELLFIRE UPON THEE. ETERNAL HELLFIRE.
that said: the box sounds pretty good overall, compared to its peers. chorus, delay/tape echo, and most of the other modulation effects are pretty good and warm (the filter algorithms, however, are a little on the harsh/tinny side). the built-in sampler is practically unusable because it's tied to the hard-to-activate footpedal, and many people have alluded to the fact that the wah ain't too great. i miss the squarewave tremolo from the AX1G; actually, many of the effects in this box are the exact same as the 1G algorithms, with additional control over certain parameters. ironically, it appears as if the new 100G may have some new algorithms contained therein.
as for the amp-modeling aspect, the thing will do in a pinch, but it's not the end-all-be-all of amp modeling devices. look to yamaha for that. but as a *stompbox* modeler, it does a decent job-- the overdrive is passable and a few of the heavier distortions are usable with some serious fine-tuning time. (a response to some of the idiots below: when playing through an amp, turn the cabinet modeling OFF. this option is for direct recording, not for turning your practice amp into a 4x12.) sadly, if you want a clean tone, you'll be pretty much forced to play through the compressor algorithm to maintain any level at all. go figure.
you *will* lose tone going into this box. keep in mind that your signal is going through an A/D and D/A before it gets back out to your amp. this is true of all devices of this ilk. the 1000G does a better job of maintaining your tone than other such processors, but it's still far from perfect. it would be REALLY nice if they could arrange for true-bypass. it could be done.
i have created one unconventional signature sound on the 1000G that i used for literally an entire album. i've come up with numerous other things ranging from totally cliche to far-out, and the 1000G normally performs quite well in all these capacities. the user interface speeds creativity for the "artiste," or if you've got no personality, you could easily use this to imitate all your favorite players' sounds. (you could also shove the 1000G right up your fender-playing, tab-reading, korn-zep-and-dave-matthews-band-loving ass.)

a recommended purchase, with the following caveats:
a) if you are attracted to the advertised amp modeling on this unit, purchase a yamaha DG stomp instead. trust me.
b) if you like freakish sounds, consider the purchase of three AX1Gs rather than the 1000G. the editing suffers, as do a *few* of the effects, but you will have much more processing power overall with this admittedly ludicrous setup. (note: do not expect to use the 1G on a dark stage.)
c) korg: SMACK. give us the "modulation." lots of it. now.
now, dammit.

Programming this thing is dead easy. The manual is minimal, but tells you everything you need to know. It has knobs, and they pretty much correspond to the knobs on the stompboxes they are modelling, so dialing in a good sound is as easy as it was with my old boxes. I had it pretty much set up to my liking in less than 30 minutes. While I usually run a direct box out of my amp, I also tried going directly from the AX1000G to the board. That seemed to be the best setup for me, as it allowed me to control my stage volume and tone without coloring the effects. It sounded great either way, though. The inclusion of an AC adaptor was a good selling point. Also, the unit I bought had been returned by someone else, and had a few odd patches that the previous person had tried to program. Reinitializing the unit is a snap, but does require you to read the manual. That's a good thing, because I would hate to be able to accidentally reinitialize it and lose all of my own patches.

I'm using a Gibson Nighthawk Standard and a Mesa/Boogie DC-5. I usually run the recording output of the Mesa into the board via a direct box. At my last gig, I tried running guitar-effect-amp-di and guitar-effect-di-amp and had great sound quality either way. I ended up settling for the latter, as it allowed me greater control of my stage volume without giving the sound man a big headache chasing my volume settings. Some of the more distortion-oriented patches hiss a bit, but with the noise reduction dialed in, you can pretty much nip that in the bud. The sound out front was really full and lush, and had lots of life. The noise reduction settings are critical, as I had dialed in a little too much at first and ended up losing some sustain. It was very easy to fix, though, thanks to the knobs. I really dig the vocal effect used in the "BISKIT" patch. The distortions are, well, distortion (you really have to work at it to screw up a distortion box). The chorus models are very full sounding, and the phaser is a dead-on MXR replica. It has a really hip MuTron-type envelope filter (auto wah) which is fun to use during our 60s medley. The wah, while not a Crybaby, is pretty good. Anybody who has had problems with it might try recalibrating their pedal. It's easy to do, and the manual gives good instructions. I play in a country/rock cover band, so I need to be able to get lots of different sounds for the different styles we play. This unit really delivers. Of course, it really helps to have a good working knowledge of the effects used so you know what to tweak. As a 20+ year veteran of stompboxes, I found it pretty easy. If you haven't dealt with stompboxes, I could see where you could possibly get overwhelmed. The amp models aren't perfect replicas, but they're close enough that only a major purist could tell the differences.

I brought my boxes as a backup last night, but they ended up just being dead weight. The unit is built tough. If I could change anything, I would have put some kind of rubber membrane over the pedal on/off switch, as I could see gunk could get into the unit through the hole. Other than that, I don't foresee any problems with it. I treat my stuff pretty carefully, but I think it could take some abuse without any major heartache.

Can't say, but I've had Korg stuff in the past and only had to contact them once, back in the 80s. I had a Korg keyboard go bad, and they fixed it without any hassles (it was under warrantee). I'm sure that it would be the same.

One of the main reasons I bought this unit was because it modeled stompboxes instead of people, if you know what I mean. While it's nice to be able to sound like Van Halen, if you don't play like him then what's the point. I've been playing long enough (30 years) to have a distinctive style, so I'm more interested in coloring my sound than sounding like anybody in particular. The factory patches, for the most part, need some tweaking, but that's no big surprise. As I mentioned before, I play country/rock covers. I needed a unit that would be really versatile, yet wouldn't require a college degree to program. I shopped around for quite a while, and tried all of the different units out there, even some that were much more expensive. For me, the value for the money was what led me to the Korg AX1000G. It's compact, light (about 5 lbs), looks and sounds good, and is the easiest thing to program, especially "on the fly". It would be nice if it had MIDI, but I can live without it. If it were stolen, I would definitely get another one. If anybody has some interesting patches to share, drop me a line.

Hi Guys,
I'm hunting for my sound and I came across the Korg 1000G. I heard a great deal about it and the ratings at HC never went below 7. I went to the shop and tested the unit. I spent 2 hours with it and I left the place with digital paranoia and the feeling of nausea. The unit sucked big time and I feel it is an attempt by a keyboard manufacturer to fool the guitarist just by the size of it. If it's big and expensive then it must be good. I didn't fall for it.
First thing that decides the quality of sound in today's processors is the sampling frequency and the Analog/Digital-D/A conversion rate. Individual effects sound good as they are Analog all the way. The skimpy 8 page leaflet made no mention of this(Korg trying to hide something?) CD's are sampled at 48 Khz at 16-bit and the new recording format from Sony samples at 24-bit, 96 Khz. Zoom and Digitech mentions this and even the DSP used. Would you buy a PC without knowing which Chip is in the box?
I was looking for something to create new distortions + Compresssor. Coupled with a good Wah plus a few fancy ones like phaser, Chorus etc and a PCM Drummer. Nothing sounds close to any amp mentions instead it sounds like a keyboard distortions. Tried many guitars and amps but all I could hear was digital sound. The distortions were buzzy and farty.SUSTAIN???. The Vox-wah had no effect with distortion. The Cabinet emulator is a waste. But mainly the parameters were limited only to gain and EQ. The knobs had lights which went on and off like an electronic dice. Tuner didn't give unusual tunings. Pedal was good but you hit the bottom soon enough like any processor. Nothing like the Cry Baby feel. The presets give some flangey, echoey and repeated sounds. You sound like in a cave but who wants that reverb. These sounds might be useful to emulate Steve Vai but how many can play half as good as him.
What was Korg trying to achieve here? The 1G is great and sounds better than the 1000G. The cabinet resonator is better than the big brother's. Only the 1000g has direct access to the effects and a better pedal. But no way I'm gonna pay twice the price for something that sounds the same. I'm happy to push small buttons and program my own sound. Look what digitech and Zoom have to offer. The Zoom GFX-8 can hook up to the PC and one can create own distortions with frequency curves. There are 3-4 unique parameters for each effect. The RP100 is a small devil(cheap) and coupled with a crybaby or a Vox should go great. Atleast you know what is the sampling frequency.I just hope Korg gets it right with the 100G. My choices for now are Rp100, RP2000, AX100g, Gfx-8 or even the Gfx-707. But I'll test them thoroughly before making up my my mind. I won't be fooled by the appearence, I'll just use my ears. These models still haven't arrived in India.
I'm not a pessimist but I just wrote what I know and felt about a product. There may be many who swear by The 1000G but I'm not convinced and still looking for that sound. I feel Half your sound and 90% of your Tone lies with your guitar. Can you sound like Satriani/Vai on a Les Paul or like Mark Knofler with your Ibanez. You can but each guitar is unique and the directions they're headed is different.

Im mostly play a Ibanez Rg470 with Evolution pickups through a Marshall Valvestate 8240 Combo. I have other guitars aswell, like a danelectro and a new 67' Es335 but i dont use the Korg with them. I use it for the small to medium sized club gigs. Used between the guitar and the amp it doesnt sound anyway near what i want. It definitely does not sound like the tube amps it somewhat claims to sound like and for the 4x12 modern and 1x8 tweed.. well. It just doesnt gel. But thats not the point here. It may not emulate the different amps very well but it still sounds pretty good and if you are looking for a multieffect's processor with a reasonable price tag, i would say go for it.
