I'll start by saying that this is an EXTREMELY easy to use pedal. My previous effects pedal was a Korg AX1G, so moving to this newer model was extremely easy.. the concept of how it works is basically the same, just enhanced. However, it is necessary to read the manual so you can know how to do the weird stuff like recalibrate the wah pedal (which I doubt many people did who wrote reviews on here bad-mouthing the wah pedal) Once I recalibrated it, it sounds VERY similar to a VOX pedal, if not exact.. you can tell a small difference, of course, because it's digital, but many people who own a VOX and who have heard me play my AX1000G, say they didn't notice any difference at all. The manual is very easy to read and has a lot of information that you would have no way of learning by just tinkering around. If you want to edit any patches, there are 2 ways of doing it: using the analog nobs for each effect, or using the digital arrow keys.. that makes it easy for both old-skool and digital-babies to figure it out.

Sound Quality : 10
I play with a BC Rich Mockingbird Platinum plugged straight into the pedal, then straight out into my church sound board.. no amps or anything.. This makes the quality-of-sound EXTREMELY important. There is NO noise at all, except a SLIGHT high pitch sound on the Acoustic effect.. but when you start playing, it cancels out the noise and sounds GREAT so it's a very small price to pay for such good sound. The effects are all modeled after vintage equipment.. you can choose a 4x12 tweed cabinet with a brit-stack distortion, univibe pedal control and plate-spring echo.. And that's exactly what they're named, not cryptic symbols and arcane runes like some other pedals <cough> DIGITECH </cough> Many of the preset patches are modeled after familiar sources (Corn, G-n-R, Monster, Voodoo) not F42 or F21 or U1 <cough> DIGITECH </cough> A friend of mine who is a hardcore guitar purist, LOVES this pedal.. he says the CORN sound (after I modified it and put it through a 4x12 tweed cab) says it sounds like a peavey 5150.. The rest of the effects are very well made.. you don't hear cheap processing when you play around with the pitch benders and auto-wahs.. they sound authentic and very nice.

Reliability : 10
I depend on it constantly without a backup, and it has not done me wrong yet. Heck, the AX1G was a great beginner pedal, and it never failed me.. I use it for recording at home now.

Customer Support : 7
Never dealt with the customer support, although I am let down that the website doesn't have more information, upgrade options, stuff like that.

Overall Rating : 10
I play backup guitar at my church.. So my playing ranges from death medal rhythm to reggae to clean acoustic to power lead to melodic harmony.. I don't have time to switch cables and stomp on 20 different individual stomp boxes to get the sound I need.. many times I have to transition from one song to another in .1 seconds, and this pedal makes it possible.
I've been playing for around 4 years now.. don't really own any other gear besides my AX1G pedal.. I'm one of those guys who normally has to sell his current guitar before he can get a new one, so a 'collection' is out of the question. I do, however, have a Fender Strat Mini guitar for practice at home or travel, but that's about as crazy as I get. :)
If this pedal was stolen I'd unleash the power of the Sith on whoever took it.. Otherwise I'd just go buy a new one.. For the price, there is NOTHING that compares.. I used to have a Digitech RP7 (for about 2 days) before I had to get rid of it and get this pedal.. I couldn't believe how hard it was to use that digitech, and it really didn't sound that good at all.. too noisy and inconsistent sound volume/quality.. This pedal smokes it like there's no tomorrow. It has stereo outputs, a headphone jack, and comes with its own AC Adapter, so you can't complain much. I DO wish it had a Bank-Down button instead of having to hit 2 buttons at once, but it's not that hard, and easy to get the hang of. This pedal, with all its capabilities, really helps me expand my creativity and allow me to do things I didn't even know were possible.

I?m not gonna review this product right now, but I still consider it as the best mfx in the price range. I just want to list sites that offer AX1000G Patches (huh, only three in the entire net, come on people!!!!!!!!)
1.http://www.mfblues.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/korgpage.html
2.http://www.geocities.com/t_jauhari/welcome.html
3.http://membres.tripod.fr/korgax1000gfx/
4.http://www.midijamman.com/musicdb/

you can share some patches there.
Maybe you have information about other AX1000G sites.

(8) Not that difficult to use. The "sample-and-play" feature took a while to get used to. I can get pretty much the sound I want just turning the (many) knobs. Have to refer to the manual sometimes. (I wouldn't throw it away !) Came with a power supply, it doesn't use batteries.

Sound Quality : 8
Have 4 electrics in the $300 and under range. Single-coil S and T's sound different than humbucker Iba., etc. Use this mostly through headphones; but it sounds good through a Crate 30w. trans. amp. (Crank up the amp's e.q.'s). Many of the distortion sounds (tube od.,classic, fat, Seattle) sound good without a cab. simulation. Some of the cabs. (2X12 black, class A, 4X12 vintage) are o.k. The stereo chorus is velvety smooth and lush ! Decent reverbs...the other stuff I don't use. Poor wah (I seldom use this either). Less output volume to headphones than my new J-Stn. Which is better ? I don't know ! The AX1000G gets certain "in-between" distortion sounds better than the J; but the J has a more "real" sounding spring 'verb...its a toss up !

Reliability : 8
Metal body, feels solid. I've owned it a little over a year now with no problems. Wish it had an on-and-off switch like the J. I don't play in a band.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Have had no dealing with Korg/ToneWorks.

Overall Rating : 8
(8) The aux. input is a good feature, the J-Stn. doesn't have it. The AX1000G is a floor unit designed to be used with an amp. The J-Stn. is a smaller unit that doesn't have "stomp buttons" and is more portable. It is primarily (I gather) to be used as a direct recording device with MIDI out and other stuff. I only use it to play through headphones. Both sound similar in some ways. Like I said, the AX1000G seems to be a little more flexible with regard to distortion sounds and "cab" simulations. I'm no pro or wanna-be, just enjoy groovin' with the radio or CD...whatever my mood may be at the time...soft rock, classic rock, grunge, country, whatever... I have everything from classical music to Marilyn Manson in my collection, so go figure ! Most of it is somewhere "in-between" !
I'm pretty much into distortion + reverb so I can't discuss stuff like pitch shift, u-vibe, talk, etc. that this unit does.

This unit is very easy to use. The manual is very brief, but it didn't tell me more than what written on the face of the unit. Once I started programming my own patches, it was a piece of cake, it's easy enough to create your own. The knobs array makes it easy to play with every parameter to get the sound you want. For live situations, the individual effects mode is very nice.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using an Ibanez RG540s with Dimarzio Tonezone pick ups straight into the AX1000G and then into a PA or headphones for practice. The unit has a broad array of basic sounds provided by the amp settings, and I've been able to get most of the sounds I want out of this pedal. While I enjoy occaisionally playing with the heavier distortions, I will be using the acoustic, clean and mild distortion settings the most. In my setup, all of the patches sounded pretty reasonable. The Mod (Classic Chorus, stereo chorus, flanger, phaser) all seem to work well and give me the sound I was looking for. The reverbs also come in a nice variety and tone. The acoustic amp setting is decent, useful and sounds as good as some acoustic-electrics I have heard, especially if you add some chorus in. Hey, I can emulate vai?s sounds on Sisters with it.

Reliability : 9
The unit is made of metal that looks very sturdy, and it has a good solid expression pedal and responsive footswitches. One nice feature on this unit is it has cable hooks and paths for the input cable and the power adaptor. This should prevent accidently unplugging the unit while in use.

Overall, I really like this pedal. I wanted a portable unit that would provide all the effects I would need in one box and let me plug a CD player and headphones in for practice. I tried all of the multi-effects processors from Korg, Digitech, DOD, Boss, etc, which it is similar to this unit. The AX1000G is the only one I could find in my price range that had all of the live features I wanted.
This unit has pretty much all of the features I was looking for, but didn't cost as much as other units having the same features. I would probably buy this pedal again if it got lost or stolen.

About this guitar effect unit AX1000g,i got the most recent price from a local music store, rmb 1600 (about 200 US dollars)..i noticed some other Korg ,Roland and Yamaha products are all noticeably cheaper than the prices i found from web.Or is it that those made in Japan are sold at much lower prices than those made in US or UK??Most such gears in China are imported from Japan,i believe...

This is a very userfriendly unit. I've used Zoom and Boss before this one, and I think the AX1000 is more userfriendly. I like the knobs very much! The manual is good, except for some bad english. It would've got a 10 if: -there had been a single pedal for going "down" in the banks (now you have to press two pedals at the same time) -if it could run by battery. -if it would have an on/off-switch.

Sound Quality : 9
You gotta know that you buy a multieffect, not a bunch of pedals and amps, and with that said I think the quality is very good. I haven't tried anything better for those money. I use a Strat Plus w Gold-pickups. It tends to get too high at some times, but when making a patch, you can rid of that. Sound very good both through my GK 100w and a headset. Unlike for example BossME30 it can give a good sound without amp simulation on.

Reliability : 9
It seem like a good piece of pedal. It feels reliable because of its metal casing. I would use it on a gig, I've never been picky ;-)

I play blues and rock. I've played for 'bout 13 years. I've previousley used a ZOOM9002, an 80-ish Ibanez multi and various pedals. Iv'e mostly used a GK 100w, a small Peavey Rage 15w and some Marshall Valvestates. Before buying this one I've tested a POD, ZOOM GFX-707, BOSS ME-30 and KORG AX1G. This was the one that sounded most like a real amp. In all multieffects you get some really useless stuff, but thats a part of the fun. If it was stolen I'd get a new one when finished crying.

I'm very surprised, it's so easy to get good sounds. But it'll be better if it provided with feature (a button) which can compare the editted sound to the original.

I,m using Ibanez RG550 and a marshal half stack. So far so good. I like the distortion, and it suited me best.

it's noisy when the drive set at high setting, but it's quite enough with the noise reduct set at 6.

The sound of this mfx are fat and warm, I just couldn't believe my ear.

Yes, i can get the sounds of satriani (surfing with the aliens album), vai, santana, petrucci, nuno.

Knobs, that's all we need. Korg really knows what guitarists needs.
Among others, I think korg is the best in using knobs in mfx. I notice that digitech also use this feature to their new products.
Good job korg!!!

Sound Quality : 10
there is no deep editing, but surprisingly it sounds good.
the cabinet simulator is awesome, it has AIR parameter to adjust the cab resonance (digitech copy this feature also to their new product). The distortions are good, the best among its rival. I can get sounds of my favorite guitarists easily, santana, satriani, vai, yngwie (thanks to the wah pedal), SRV (it has tubescreamer model).
Very nice acoustic.
The vowel in the Talk pedal can be adjusted, cool.
The wah pedal needs some tweak on eq, but OK.

I've been playing for 12 years. I've been using a lot of pedal, Boss, Zoom, Digitech, DOD, and nothing compare to this one in terms of sounds, easy to use, and of course the price.
This is a good buy.

I?ve never trusted korg before, and this is my first korg mfx. I used to use digitech. When I decided to buy new mfx this was the only mfx that sounds above average available in the store.
I was amazed with its sound quality. Warm and fat. The tube Overdrive is the best I?ve ever heard, it spots on. I really like the variety of disto there, which gave me freedom to make any kind of sounds I can think of. The cab simulator is very useful. It enrich sounds.
I also like the classic chorus, especially in stereo, very warm and full. I rarely use mod though.
Pedal block is awesome but it will be better if it could control the drive gain.

My equipments are like everybody else. Guitar and Amps. I do believe that no matter what equipments u use, if you experienced enough you will always create your own kind of sounds. I?ve used many kinds of gear and my friends always recognize my sounds.
Make your own kind of sounds instead of others and eventually it will become part of you. Your heart and ear will guide your hands to tweak toward your own sounds.

But of course, this pedal does give you access to copy your favorite artists? sounds. Thanks to the complete disto.

Reliability : 10
no problem at all.

What i love most from this pedal is its capabilities to make varied sounds. It motivated me to create new sounds.

Guitar multi-effect digital processor with proprietary REMS analog modeling technology. But I use it mostly for bass.

Having knobs makes adjustment easy. You need to be careful when switching parameters though because the knobs control functions for different effects, and sometimes this results in a knob pointing to a number that doesn't reflect a parameter's true setting. In addition to the knobs, you can use arrow buttons to make the same adjustments to all parameters of the effects, which is usually a little easier for general adjustments. Having said that, it's handy to use the knobs when tweaking. LED lights and the LCD display show all the editable parameters. The new AX1500G has the same intuitive layout with better ergonomics and more patch memories.

Sound Quality : 8
Most of the modulations (i.e. phaser, flanger, chorus, tremelo, etc.) are very good. The delays, reverbs and hall echoes (the Ambience section) are fantastic, especially the multi-head tape echo (Roland Space Echo) and echoplex models, and the stereo and ping pong delays are great for everything, including processing drum loops and samples.

I think the distortions suck. They're feeble and WAY too noisy at any realistic setting. Better off using a real distortion pedal into this baby since digital distortion doesn't cut it. The compressor is noisy as hell at all settings. The cabinet simulations are pretty worthless too. They remove ALL the bottom end--even at the 4X12 Tweed setting, which is supposed to resemble a Fender Bassman cab. It doesn't.

But the tape delays and classic modulations, especially the "Classic Flanger" (MRX) and the "Black" (TC Electronic) and "Orange" (MRX Phase 100) Phaser settings are dead on. Buying the real analog delays modeled here separately would cost a grand or more. These make this unit a bargain. Just keep the amp/distortion and cab settings off, and you'll avoid noise. Also, the Univibe and Traveler and pedal settings are pretty good. The sample and play mode is gimmicky. The wah is not worth mentioning.

Reliability : 10
No problems yet in 8 months. The unit comes with an 9v 500mA AC wall wart. It doesn't take batteries.

Overall Rating : 9
Good quality effects that don't sound digital. The amp/distortion and cab simulations are lame and noisy, but can be bypassed. It's best feature for gigs may be as a tuner. The tuner is fantastic and easy to use. The built in metronome has turned out quite useful too.

Check out http://www.midijamman.com/ for good patch info on this unit, especially if you want to find out the original effects Korg modeled for the AX1000G effects.

The best thing I like about the AX1000G is that it's extremely easy to
modify the effects. It has knobs for each parameter instead of a general rotatory button (like rp2000), so not only is it easy but very fast too. But you have to play with it for a couple days before you can get the right sound out of it.

Sound Quality : 8
My guitar is custom made (not any of this store bought shi') with seymour duncan jb jr pickups. I use a fender 112 generally.
The distortion is ok, but you have to mess around with the settings for a long time before you find the best sound.
Some of the effects can't be used with each other but it's ok. I never use any of the weird effects like mod delay (i mean who really uses that in a good song?)
I don't have any other comparisons becuz the ax1000g is my first effects unit.

Reliability : 9
Sure, i mean it's a pile of metal. The only thing that could go wrong is if you crack the LCD screen or somethin.
Well i did fuck up my AC adapter thing by accidentally hitting it while it was plugged in so the inside of adapter on my korg is shot to hell. It only works when the plug is in a certain angle.

Well downloading the manual was kinda weird cuz it's only on the French website

if it got stolen i'd get an preamp processor such as Digitech 2101 artist gold
if you're looking for a good effects pedal for your money, korg is the way to go. but if you expect anything better go for preamp processor

the things i never use on the ax1000g: the expression pedal, 60% of the effects, 95% of the model amps, 80% of the different distortions, Individual mode, phrase trainer (very shitty),

oh yeah, another things is that when you go from one patch to another, there's a half second pause and it's very annoying

At first, I was really fascinated when I read a review and some of my bandmates told me it's one good overall multi-effects processor if you can't afford to buy a Digitech. So by impulse, I bought a unit from a friend and started experimenting on it.It's very user friendly and I don't think somebody's gonna have a hard time editing because of it's analog type rotating knobs for ease of editing when ur playing live.Manual is available upon purchase.

Sound Quality : 8
Sound quality is really important to me.So far it has impressed me and exceeded my expectations. I'm using a Fender Strat with DiMarzio
pickups(PAF Pro Humbucker on bridge/HS-2 using it's top coil on its' neck position), and a Peavey Classic 30 Tube Amp.This unit excels well on its' distortions and cabinet simulations. From tube Overdrive up to Marshall stack distortion, you can hear those vintage sounds.Although this unit is not ideal for metal music because its' volume range and metal distortion types.Cabinet simulator is one of a kind and quite fine in studio.Actually Toneworks really captured vintage and classic tones on this unit.

Reliability : 2
NO!!! I WON'T USE IT IN A LIVE GIG EVER AGAIN!!!!!

I used it in a gig 2 weeks ago and WHAT THE HELL!?!&^%?! My sound SUCKS A LOT!!!! Geez this unit with a Marshall JCM Tube Amp REALLY SUCKS!!! Better not elaborate on that very embarrasin experience of a strugglin musician. My comment is you really need to test the unit first because it might not be compatible to the amp and amp settings you might select.Reliabity is missing on this decieving unit so never use it live.I would still prefer using my SansAmp and Tube screamer along with any amp because it's much safer. It really depends on the user because I'm not the guitarist type who uses lots of chorus and delay and with to reverbation. One preamp and a driver is alright with me and I try to calibrate the reverb settings on the amp.

HELLO KORG JAPAN? Our local retail reseller has its own service dept. but I'm not really quite sure if they really have knowledge on how to repair such units like this. And besides I only had it for a month.

I've been open to music since my childhood days and I think Metal is the missing link here.I'm really lookin for those crunchy metal distortions with high highs and with sufficient lows and mids. This unit is good for practice and not for live gig. It's fine enough unit because its' other features like phrase trainer, record and play, cabinet simulations, pitch bend and pitch shift.Overall vintage sound almost. If ever I lost this one I'm not gonna buy another again, I might settle for analog types of effects.

I try this pedal based on rievews at this site. No shit, they?re telling the truth? I couldn?t believe it. It took me only ten minutes to figure how the pedal works, no manual needed. To edit effects is as easy as tweaking, and all is self explanatory. In other mfxs i know, editting and playing is in different mode, you have to switch from play mode to edit mode in order to edit the effects. But with this pedal you can edit it at any modes and at any time, just tweak and you hear the sound changes. Amazing. Other mfxs should apply this feature also if they want to make their mfxs easy to use.

Sound Quality : 10
Easy to use will mean nothing if they can?t produce at least good sounds. With this pedal I can have them both. It has amazing sound. It so easy to get great sounds. I try these pedal at the shop with Ibanez RG270 Guitar through a Crate amp. The presets sounds ok, but with some tweaks I can make it better. I?ve made other visitor at the shop looking at me and they seem enjoy the sounds.
I agree with other reviewers that this pedal has complete distortions and damn?.they sounded great. I believe that distortion sound is what does really matter in mfx, coz i use it a lot.
It also has nice modulation, but seem can only use one at a time (the modulation shut off when I activated the wah pedal). Too bad, but it?s OK with me since I rarely use modulation.
The talk pedal of this unit is more flexible than of RP2000 and GFX8. It can say more than yah yah.
The wah pedal is good for some extent. Great ambeince (hey, It has tone to control the delay and reverb sound).
I give it 10 because it has great distortion sound.

Unbelieveble!!!! This is the easiest multi-effects pedal to get great sounds I?ve known. 40 preset patches and 40 user pathces that you can customize to your own taste's or completely make your own, it's easy! The manual is ok, a lot of numbers, but not a lot of explaining. I've been looking at replacing my collection of pedals, and this one suits my needs.
The bank down complaint that most people have is not really a big deal, but a separate button would make it easier.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using this with a Ibanez PGM30 through a Peavey Bandit. The sound is awesome! Most of the included patches sound great, and of course you can modify them to suit your taste. Especially significant are the octave, auto-wah, and the univibe. Compared to the other mfx in the price range there is no comparison in sound quality.

I play all styles of music. This unit it is perfect for me. It has a lot of sounds for all styles of music. I have been playing guitar for 12 years. If this thing was lost I would probably buy another of these. I did extensive research including looking at Zoom 505, GFX-707, GFX8, GFX4, Boss Me-8, ME-30, GT3, Digitech RP3, RP7, and RP2000. This thing beat out all these other effects pedal for sounds and value for money reasons. Yes, the value for the money was what led me to the Korg AX1000G. It's compact, light (about 5 lbs), looks and sounds good, and is the easiest thing to program, especially "on the fly". It would be nice if it had MIDI, but I can live without it.
This unit is not only good to play thru an amp, but I have also played it direct in my recording studio and it sounded great.
The AX1000G is a good match. Try it, and you will love it.

The preset programs are great and its VERY easy to write your own programs. I did not find pushing down 2 buttons to go down a bank to be that much of a problem, it is easy to get used to. I took this thing out of the box and immediately had a great sound to listen to. The manual is very brief but is straightforward, and most everything is self-explanatory.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this with a Ibanez RG550 and and a Peavey Classic 212 Amplifier.
The effects on this box are awesome. Its got some great distortions to choose from, and they all can be modified to your liking. This has improved my sound big-time. A few distortions can be a little noisy on my amp, but it has a noise reduction. I bought this unit because there were various sounds that i wanted (such as echo and flanger and distortions) and i couldnt afford separate stomp boxes. I got all the sounds i wanted out of this. There are a few kinda weird effects that i know i wouldn't use, but for the most part the effects are great. The U-vibe on it sounds great too. This is a great buy...I tried out others such as digitech's RP2000, Zoom?s GFX8 and GFX4, and DOD multieffect boards and they had too much stuff i didn't need, weren't as easy to use (hard to edit on the fly), and didn't even sound as good, and the Korg AX1000G was cheaper too. Damn!!!.

Made out of metal so it seems reliable. You can depend on it.

Excellent product!!!!!
This thing can cover a ton of styles, since it has a ton of stomp box models. It can handle anything I want (from blues to metal). This is going to replace a bunch of stomp boxes. It truly has made them obsolete for me since it sounds just as good and its so moch easier to lug around. And for the money and more, this thing is killer!
If this were stolen I would replace it immediately.
Great value,great tone.

This unit is so damn easy to use. Nothing compare to it. It has knobs to ease your editting job instead of button. But there are some buttons for you if you like. I love being able to edit parameters without scrolling through boring menus. The manual is good but not deep enough in explaining the effects and parameters.

After using this pedal for 5 months, I still can?t believe my ear. This pedal is capable of copying almost every sounds I?ve heard. I don?t really familiar with tube sound, but the fact is, I can copy sounds of many famous guitarists which I believe using tube sounds.
All of distortions in the drive-amp block are useful, compare to RP2000 or GFX 8 which I found only some of their distortions are useful.
Surprisingly korg has complete distortion, from blues to deathmetal, SRV to Metalica. So, no need external distortions. That?s because they modelled effects instead of amps. That?s all we need, isn?t it ?? a box full of useful effects which way too expensive to buy seperately.
Some of the reviewers said that the disto isn?t sound good through headphone, I agree, but I solve this by using the ambience at proper settings (using echo+plate with 31ms time, 0 fback, 8 to 10 tone, 10 echo, and 4.0 reverb).
I don?t use modulation much, but they are there when i need them. It has nice and warm chorus, flanger and phaser (i wish there was a mix balance between dry and effected sound) . Good awah, filtorn is fun to play with, lovely tremolo (i use this with delay to create repeated auto volume swell).
I can live with its wah pedal (?coz I rarely using it). Talk pedal is fun, Ring mod is nice to vary my play if (use it properly). Tap delay, I still don?t how to I use it in real life.
The Sampler and metronome help me a lot improving my skill.

Wow, this awesome pedal fulfill all my needs.

Reliability : 10
Surely you can depend on something covered with metal.

Like I said, I?ve been using this awesome pedal for five months. No regrets. Infact I?m proud of using this pedal. I noticed some of pro guitarplayer in my country using this pedal on their gigs.
I?ve recommended many of my guitaris friends to try this pedal. It?s a complete mfx.
If it were stolen, hell I?m goirng to kill the man. Surely I will buy it again and again. It?s a must buy pedal.
This will be my precious collections.

Extremely easy to use... I had it sussed out within an hour. Knob-based interface is limiting, ultimately, but very intuitive and simple to use. I downloaded the manual from their website, but it is fundamentally useless...

Sound Quality : 9
The sound quality is very, very good. Superb, for the money. Within a couple of hours of owning it, I had programmed a dozen sounds that were all very nice, very convincing. I was even able to write a patch that almost precisely emulates my Mesa/Boogie Dual Calibre DC-2 combo. Unreal. This thing is going to be a blessing for recording projects...

Further, the effects are warm and natural. Nothing grainy or overtly digital-sounding about them. Yes, it does suck that you can't use a modulation effect and the wah at the same time. This truly blows, to be sure. But be fair, now! This is a three hundred-dollar machine, and your money would be quite well spent even if it didn't have an expression pedal at all! Some of the distortions suck, as do some of the cabinet emulations. Most of them, however, do not. The ones that don't suck are lush, three-dimensional, and stunningly amp-like.

Reliability : 9
It seems to be built solid. It is made of seemingly high-guage steel, which is a welcome departure from some of the Korg's competitors, which case their boxes in molded plastic. The expression pedal is sturdy, also made of metal, and is covered in grip tape. Nice.

I am the guitarist in an original band that plays heavy rock. I've been playing for seventeen years now, and I have played through just about every effect and amplifier known to man at one time or another. For the money, this thing is awesome. I am not about to list all the gear I own (in addition to my guitars, amps, and the like our band also owns a pretty well-equipped project studio). The two main applications this thing will see from me are: (1) as a practice tool at home, plugged into my stereo system. I am not a big fan of effects, unless they are so subtle as to not be noticed. But at home, I can pile on all the delays, reverbs, and choruses I want and have a ball with it. It's inspiring. With the band, whether it's rehearsal, recording, or performing, I use no effects at all- just guitar into head into cabinet. The second use I will put the Korg to is in recording. It sounds very, very convincing- as good as the POD, anyway- and it is a great option to have when you get tired of moving mics around. In recording, I would strip all the effects away from whatever patch I am using, and just throw down. If it were lost or stolen, I would replace it. It is not as powerful as the Boss GT_5 (or even the GT-3), or the Digitiech RP2000, but it sounds so tough and muscular and is so easy to program that I would say it's a better value. It sounds just as good as any of the other units, and better than a lot of them. I like this thing a lot.

Out of the box its easy to use, easy to get sounds out, easy to edit patches, but the important thing for me was to fight the urge to ignore the manual, it really is a good idea to spend about a 1/2 hour quickly going thru it. Getting the most out of the unit comes in personalizing the patches, actually for the thats where the power of the unit came thru....by the way they recently announced an upgrade the AX1000G looks like some minor upgrades

bottom line you can get sounds out of this easily but read the manual so you can get the most out of the unit

Sound Quality : 8
using this with Gibson LP Custom, Hamer Import Archtop, Aslin Dane Strat Copy, Taylor Big Baby Acoustic thru either Mesa Mark IIB or Fender Princeton or Direct thru a PA

The unit is a little loud and hard to control with most of the factory preset patches on the front end of the amp and thru the FX loops, this is where i started to check the manual out to edit the patches (and come up with your own; 40 user patches) simply to reduce the volume; discovered (for me anyway) i like it best when i turned off the amp and cab sims when i am playing thru an amp. The effects really shine at that point; great chorus, echo/delays, modulations fx's etc...

i find the acoustic sims are great if a little noisy (maybe i need to
experiment around with these

some guitar signal loss thru guitar loop

the more time i spend with this unit the more i can customize to get what i am looking for except for sustain....

no time delay between patches, the waw-waw is not a cry baby but themn again if i had to daisy chain all these effects it would be a chord, battery, noise nightmare;

metal case for the money the best constructed one in the bunch

have used the Korg AX1000G thru amp fx loop and Direct to pa....approx $250 (they are coming out with a new one in fall 2001 so this should lower price), does a nice job on delays and modulation fx's (chorus, phase shifters, tremelo, echo several types); decent noise gate; not bad on acoustic sims (a little noisy); has a lot of different distortions and amp sims that are not bad); i use the amps lead channel rather than amp sims or distortion (turn off the amp sims and cabs) and find the fx are more responsive and realistic (buts that is just my personal preference)

used it direct without an amp (good pa and monitors and pro soundman) and very impressed with the unit, i am guessing but i believe this is where you can get a lot of use out of the amp sims and cabs, my personal preferences are with an amp, but if you are in a situation where amps are not an option, this can easily do the job....

very well constructed unit (metal case)

biggest wish for improvement in the area of sustain overall, for the price, it has been fine, would reccomend that you give ax1000g a listen.....

The KORG outclasses many similar multi-fx units in this area, trust me I tried most of them! The 40 user patches are very easy to edit, all with rotary knobs (for all you stompbox fans!) and all of the other functions, such as sample and play, it's really quite easy to get the sound you're looking for.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with a Samick LS-450 (Basically A Gibson LP Custom) through a Boss EQ and a Marshall Chorus, then a Custom Peavey Stack. Acoustically it's the Yamaha FG-412S (With a top class Fishman Pickup)
through the EQ and Chorus then the AX1000G. With the Samick and the noise reduction on 7 it's pretty damn quiet, although some of the Harder metal distortions do get marginal on max drive, but it's still better than all others in this price range. The tube OD is a pretty good emulation of an Ibanez Tube Screamer (This is what it is modeled on) especially on the more subtle drive settings. The Chourus is absolutely SUPERB the only reason I keep the Marshall is cause it looks good and I can use it with another Mod effect on the KORG (NOTE: You can only use one Modulation effect at a time....big deal....??? It is when you consider that the Mod. effects are Flangers, Choruses, Phasers e.t.c I recommend buying your most used Modulation effect as your FAV stompbox, and use it to compliment the KORG. The acoustic sim is good, the compressor, v.good. The WAH is really not bad if you set it up with the rigt drive e.t.c probably 8/10 against a crybaby's 10/10. The Ambience section is also SUPERB, good reverb, some usefull echo's and it works with the acoustic like a dream and you can even use it for vocals!! IT IS GREAT! The cabinet settings need playing with to get it right but when you do.....WOOOOOWWW!!!!

Reliability : 9
It's made of metal, solid and nice and weighty. The pedals look like they could let sand or grit in though so don't go dropping it in the dirt! I would definately gig without a Backup.

Although the KORG site isn't great I agree, there are some other good sites I found after days of searching!!
Try http://www.korg-ax1000g.fr.st/english/index-us.htm for patches and some info in the new AX1500G. And try http://www.midijamman.com/ for other info. I got a good Warranty from the shop so I'm not worried.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all kinds, from R&B to Blues to Rock, The KORG's ready for anything. It's so great for the acoustic, my cheap Yamaha sounds like a couple of thousand pounds worth of Martin!! I would buy this again if it were stolen immediately. If you are still in the comparing stage then let me help you out, I extensively tested (before buying the KORG) Boss ME-30, Boss-GT3, Zoom GFX-4, Zoom GFX-8, Zoom GFX-707. For sound quality (taking value into account) this wins hands down. Admittedly the GT-3 and Zoom GFX-8 does outclass it in some things, they cost exactly twice as much!! And the Korg still has its edge over even these high priced units in certain areas.
As for the GFX-4, GFX-707 and ME-30, this is far superior, the GFX-4 has a better WAH and one or two better distortions, but it's nothing like a easy to use. I wish the KORG had the computer link up to edit patches and program the unit, like the GFX-8 and GT-3, but it's so easy to prgram anyway it's not essential. When you look at quality and value together this beats every other unit mentioned here, though the 707 can be had for #90 (bargain!) If your looking to spend the KORG price and need your choice narrowing down try the new GFX-4 and Then Try the korg, it's close between the two, but I'll take4 the KORG.

It has to be a 10 overall, an excellent product WELL DONE KORG!

Sound Quality : 9
i'm using it with an ibanez gax 70. the setting can really effect your tone and tweeking can be a big thing. most of the effects are quite effective but there are porabably better singular stomp boxes out there. i'm using a roland 405 guitar amp and this bitch get's pretty loud. the most annoying part is the sound volume differences ebtween everything. completely annoying but there is room to adjust for yourself. I really like the the metal and seattle distortions. i need a strong crunchy sound to shred away to. as for the effects the stereo delay is a trip out.

This is where the AX1000 really shines. The knobs are so much easier to use than the buttons on most other multi effect pedals in that price range. The only downside is the inabillity to use the modulation and pedal effects at the same time though. The individual effects are very versitile and the Individual Mode allows you to use the different effect banks analog as individual on/off-switchable pedals - NICE!

Sound Quality : 7
I own a Fender Jaguar with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails bridge pickup and an Eppiphone SG Custom which I've played through a vintage 50W Peavy Classic and a Marshall AVT150 head through a 1960 cabinet. My basic sounds differ quite a lot, but the AX1000G handles this reasonably well.
Some of the modulation and distortion effects are quite nice, but some are quite useless. The cabinet section is really obsolete - it really doesn't do anything you cannot do by turning a few knobs on your amp. The pedal effects are ok - you will not find anything better unless you spend alot of money on individual pedals - but the wah really sucks. For this purpose i use a Dunlop Crybaby (Don't leave home without it)
For the price the effects are nice, but i do prefer individual pedals in general.

Reliability : 3
NOOO!!! Only weeks after buying the thing, the pedal on my AX1000 doesn't work! Ive tried to calibrate it, and even had the entire pedal dissasembled in order to find out whats the matter with it but nothing works! It seems that the expression pedal is controlled by some sort of magnetic resistance-device - not a potmeter like a Crybaby wah. A shame really, as i really liked the talk and u-vibe effects otherwise diffucult to come about at a reasonable price.
Another problem arises when playing live: Those footswitches are so damn small! particulary the bank switch next to the expression pedal - You can only use the thing when playing bare footed.
I'd rate it higher though - after all its made of metal - but the expression-pedal thing just really sucks!

Customer Support : 1
There is no way of reaching the company for support.
I bought the pedal on sale in a music store so i can't get a refund or a replacement. Its a nice pedal, but i wouldn't want to spend $70 or more for a repair.

Overall Rating : 7
I'v been playing for 5 years now, playing most genres of music, though mainly rock and grunge. The AX100G offers reasonably good effects at an affordable price. I would though in time replace the pedal with analog effects.
All in all it's an exellent beginners pedal, but due to it's size and reliability i wouldn't recommend it for gigging.

i use this on my bass and boy does it kick some serious ass.. ui use a squier standard series p-bass special, into the AX1000G, then into a yorkville BM-200 bass amp. its noisy on some settings, ie: high gain effects, but that is expected. i love all the effects in this unit, esepcially the hold delay, and the "korn" preset distortion setting. i get the perfect sound from my fav badn "rage against the machine" put some tremolo and distortion on it and you can play the intro to "geurilla radio". but distortion and wah and you can play the verse to "calm like a bomb". this thing has awesome metal distortion. i use the cainet sims alot, usually the "vintage 4x12" or the "classic 4x12" with metal distortion and flanger.... this is the best processor i've ever tried. i mean its for guitar but i use it with bass, and i was blown away by its high end sound quality. my fav effects are the delay, distortions, flanger, wah's, the "talker", pitch shifter, and the cabinet sims.

this device was so easy to use,
if you know how to turn a knob, your ok...

speed editing was one of the thing I'm looking for when I buy it.
You can adjust your sound the way you want in the next 10 second,
maybe 30 second if this is the first time you open it...
nothing to do with the Roland Gt series or a Digitech.

Sound Quality : 8
Nothing will ever sound like a tube amp except the tube amp himself.
I try so many amp simulator, the sound of the Pod give me headhack,
the GT-5 sound like a cheap fuzz pedal with high resolution,
DOD and Digitech always sound like DOD and Digitech, but I'm humble in front of someone who are able to sound great with that kind of gear.

no kidding,
The AX1000G cost less then the half of the price of thoses mid range gear and sound ten time more...

I got one advice before you go to a store and try one,
don't use the factury presets, they sound like crap,
don't be afraid to sweep the knob, you will be surprise...

the device was very versatile, I create a Malmsteen kind of's lead sound, thanks to the built-in Wah...
I also create a Robert Fripp's compressed clean and a old Vox warm sound...
I got a couple of very fat and juicy rythm sound,
but I must admit, that was not the best gear to play some Korn.
but not from far behind..

the preamp and the cabinet choice was very enjoyfull,
the modulation (chorus, flanger) was ok, not great..
and the reverb sound a bit poor...
the real high quality was in the cab and preamp...
but do no believe that will sound like a real amp...

and please, if you buy anything like simultor, don't put the overdrive of your marshall in the blend... that kind of devide was made to be direct in the mixer, that is where you will have all his quality...

Reliability : 6
as a solo recording multi-instrumentist, it cost me alot to build my kit, Bass and gear, keyboards, DAW, mics and now guitars and gears...

so, that device was very usefull for me, I use it not only with my guitar, but also on the keyboards and voices,... mostly for the different wah mode...

I use it only in studio session for now. So, when trouble appear, these is no stress..
cause something the was pedal give it up, it work for a fews minutes and without any reasons the pedal was die...
so, I must close and re-open it.
kind of problem must be critical in a on stage situation.
better bring your Morley...

I use the AX1000G for many music styles, from insdustrial techno, Rock, newage, pop, country and I now use it in a Power Metal session...

I must admit I'm not the next guitar god, I truly a Bass player for 10 years. But my guitar player friend was surprise by the sound of that grey box. one of them as sell his GT-5 to buy a AX1000G a couple days after he try mine.

with no doubt, for that price, you will never be able to sound better and bigger then that with anything else...
everyone who already have a Digitech, Zoom or Roland preamp, you must take a look to that little beast...
of course, If you already have a TriAxis's mesa, Legacy's carvin or a Bogner you just don't need that.,

but if you are out of budget or like me you need some drive for your studio, that was made for you...

I use it with my Godin ST4 direct in my mixer with my Lexicon reverb
and I got very good results...

but if you have the cash to buy a amp, by the amp...

Yeah, its really easy to dial in effects, but in a hurry you could easily get confused, and the slight delay to switch between settings is really damn annoying during live playing.

Sound Quality : 3
What the hell is everyone on this thing talking about? I hate this pedal! It's noisy as hell through every single amp I've ever run it through. Also, the signal is REALLY compressed, which means at high gain settings you get this annoying "spongy" sound and a constant fuzz. Plus, this thing has NO, I repeat, NO HIGH-END!!! I played through a P.A. system through this pedal along with someone playing through a Boss multi-effects, and could not be heard at all. I was all bass and he was all treble, which gets really annoying when you can't hear yourself. Plus, the majority of the effects, especially the wah and pitch shifter, are really weak.
--one good point--this thing is great for direct recording, but I wouldn't use it live

It's solid metal, but the patches are hard to hit they're so small and then there's the delay thing...

What's the point of buying something if it sounds terrible after a while? Do some research on the sound you want, and get some specific amp/pedals to do it--multi-effects are way overrated.

My major problem is the fact that the bank switch is too near the pedal, making it difficult to access when I have large shoes on. I like the feel of the pedal though, even if it is rather small since it is a little bit stiff, much like my old DOD pedal. The knobs are great and so is the interface.

Sound Quality : 9
Its very quiet and since I don't use distortion very often (except for some overdrive) I have no complaints about noise. I just tried playing the unit through a Peavey 5150 and it came out pretty crisp. I'm experimenting with other sounds now.

Reliability : 9
Looks very sturdy. The metal casing sure beets any plastic ones I've tried! I bring a backup anyway to be sure but I don't think I'll have any problems.

Haven't tried yet.

So far, I love this unit and wouldn't trade it for the overall usability and convenience. I'd recommend it to anyone, especially for the price.

A very easy to use unit out of the box. Korg created a good mix of preset patches. Editing was difficult for me at first because mine came without a manual. After a few nights of playing with the editing feature I figured it out. Overall it is a straight forward effects pedal. Using knobs insted of buttons is a very nice touch.

Sound Quality : 8
I have used my AX1000 with a number of different setups. I purchaced the unit in the summer of 2000. I have run it through my peavy KB150 (yes it is a keyboard amp, but it is pretty valuable for jaming with buddies in the condo basement. Sounds good at low volumes, and has 3 imputs with seperate vol and eq's it was a good $100 envestment)I have run it in front of my Marshall JCM 900 100 watt half stack, and I am working on a rack setup using a ADA MP1 and a solid state Carvin power amp. I want to see how it sounds through the MP1 effects loop. The Korg has sounded great through my Marshall and the practice amp. Very little noise. I have jacked up my marshall somewhere in the 8's on the clean channel and used the korg's solid state distortion to get kind of a Dimebag or 90s Death Metal sound and the Rig wasn't noisy at all. The heavy metal dist is somewhere between with a dod american metal and a boss Metal Zone. It's all how you have it set. I've owned both of those pedals and that is my opinion of the sound. Some of the effects are not the greatest sounding versions that I have ever heard. The korg is not going to replace a vintage crybaby wah or a digitec wammy pedal. But for $300 new it is great for a player who wants the effects but cant afford them all. ( that includes prob. 90% of us.)

I did notice that the unit did effect the sound of other pedals tht are run in line with it even when on bypass mode. I would not reccoment using this pedal with other pedals in the loop. It really cuts the signal down. That is one reason I am toying with putting it in the effects loop and only using it for delay, chorus ect.

One thing i almost forgot, the AX100G is a great tool for practicing through headphones! It's headphone sound is a 20! If any of you guys have girlfriens that hate your music and ask you if you know any "Faster Pussycat" tunes. The Korg is a super tool for practicing with headphones.

I feel that the unit is reliable it has a solid construction. I wouldn't drop it down stairs, but you get the picture.

Overall the pedal is a 8 it's a lot of pedal for the money. I've ben playing for 12 years and have used a lot of gear

THE KORG AX1000G DOES HAVE ONE MAJOR FLAW!

The pedals are pretty bad
A: Very small about have the size of a dod pedal. pretty tough to hit.
B: Major gap in the sound when you swich effects ie: going form clean to distortion You have to hear it to know what i'm saying
C: THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT in order to bypass the unit you have to press the pedal that you are currently using and wait for about 2 seconds then it bypasses. Next time you play your favorite song where the song goes form heavy to clean and you want to use one of your other effects for the clean Imagine having to press and hold the distortion pedal, and in 2 seconds the distortion turns off by its self. It is not easy to time.

Now this is not a problem if you set up a patch on the same bank for your clean sound. But if you want to use other effects processers for other sounds the bypass is bad. I would have liked korg to set up the pedal different. It would be nice to just click the pedal a second time to enable the bypass. Or to be able to set the wah pedal to control the level of the pedals mix. That would be a great feature!

I wasn't sure where to put that part but it is a very annoying feature and i needed to list it

very very easy to use and to get a good sounds. Best i've ever known.
You can edit patch at any time and no need to push edit button, just tweak the knobs and you can hear the sound change.
And you know what? they let you know the original value of your current setting, so you won't get lost during editing.
No need to scroll when editing parameters. It feels like using stompboxes.
excellent!!

great distortions, great clean/accoustic,
I can make my cheap guitar and amp sound like hell!!!!
Satriani, malmsteen, vai, Paul gilbert, Ritchie Kotzen, EVH, Santana....you name it, it's only knobs away.
I have several patches of my own sounds too.

This thing is pretty easy to use. Most of the presets suck, but it's not very hard to make your own. Especially if you have used multi- effects pedals before. The manual is real basic and easy to understand.

Sound Quality : 9
I use a Fender Standard Fat Strat and an old fender Bassman amp. It sounds incredible. Most of the distortions are awsome, although I did find it difficult to get some good blues tones out of it. But for pure rock it is great. I really like how transparent the bypass is. I also have a Zoom pedal and it is noisy as hell when in bypass. Most of the effects are great. The reverbs and delays are awsome. The phasers, chorus, flanger, and filtron are all great effects. But some of the pedal effects are wierd and useless, unless you are into techno music and funk. The ring modulator, traveler, and talker are all stupid. But the wah is O.K. and the Uni-Vibe is outstanding with the right distortion. The "tallica" preset is amazing. I wold give it a ten but it is hard to get a good mild chruch sound out of this.

Reliability : 10
This is built like a tank. Made out of steel and the buttons and knobs are all of the highest quality. I think that if I dropped this thing off of a ten foot stage it would be just fine.

Never needed them.

This thing is great. It is the final piece of equipment I need to get the ultimate classic rock guitar sound, and many other sounds for that matter. I have been playing guitar for about 6 years and this pedal is the best effects pedal I have ever seen or used. Not only can you get so many great sounds out of it, it provides a variety of song writing and learning tools. The sample and play function is incredibly useful for writting lead guitar parts. But I wish it could sample more than 8 seconds, twice that much would be perfect. If this were stolen I would probably buy it again, unless Korg decided to make one that could do the "Vox wah" and "orange phaser" at the same time and "Sample and play" with reverb (this is my only major complaint about the product).More than 8 seconds of sample time would be nice to.

This is the easiest one that i've tried yet. I was editing patches almost immediately after bringin it home. The manual was alright (if you like reading them) but I figured just about everything on my own. Some things you'll have to read about, like the metronome and sample and play features

Sound Quality : 9
it's noisy on the factory presets but hey, that's what the 40 user banks are for. other than that its great. I'm just using a practice amp at home with this so i don't really use the amp modeling. I think the strongest distortion is british stack. The phasers perform good and the flange takes a little tweaking but once you get it, you got it.

Reliability : 9
I play on giggin with it, but i haven't yet. I would use without a back up, i have backups anyways (crybaby and smashbox and a grunge) but if i didn't have em i guess i'd have to right?

This thing complements just about any style. (ALMOST FOR YOU WEIRDOS OUT THERE) well, i play a lot of collective soul so that'll take some tweaking to get it right but i'm workin on it. My favorite feature is the 40 user banks you can set up yourself. I've set up a patch for different songs i play and the ability to rename em is cool. I think the led is too small for stage. for all those people who complains about the holding one button and hitting another for scrolling down, you lazy bums!!!! How easy do you want it? I'll be honest, i really wanted a digitech rp-2000 but the editing on that thing is way more difficult than tha ax1000g. plus this thing has knobs which make it really easy on the hands. If any one has cool patches let me know.

Reasonably simple. I like using knobs, but you have the option of using the little chicklet keys. The manual is OK, but on the short side. I'd have liked them to include some more in depth explanations for some of the effects and some suggested settings.

Sound Quality : 7
Some things sound very good, some are ok and some are useless. I've used it with a US Strat Plus, a Nashville Power Tele, a Danelectro U2 and a DeArmond M-65C.

One major benefit is the incredible array of effects. Just about anything you could want is here, although some sound better than others.

The arrangement is a little funny. There are 5 banks of effects and you can use one of each, though not modulation and pedal at the same time. Drive-Amp, Cabinet, Modulation, Pedal and Ambience.

Some of the drive settings are interesting, but others are weak. The major drawback is the inability to get a decent clean sound. Cranking back the drive on one of the channels lowers the level so much that this thing looses most of its use. I like the Seatle and Tube OD sounds. The accoustic simultor is cool too. Kind of makes your guitar sound like it has a piezo pickup. Output is too low though.

The cabinets really don't do that much. They will boost the volume a bit and some of the larger speaker models add some depth.

The modulation bank is the best in my opinion. The Phasers and Chorus' are really good for the most part and very adjustable. The octave divider is OK and the filtron is fun to play with. The pith shifter is terrible. Worst I've ever heard and the Autowah is pretty weak.

The pedal section is interesting. The Univibe is passable and the talk thing is fun, but not that usefull. I don't know why the ring modulator is there. Does anyone ever use this? The Vox wha is weak. The real problem here is the pedal itself. It has 2 major problems. The on-off switch rarely works. I don't know what Korg was thinking. The other is the range. It seems to almost be on/off rather than a smooth flow. These issues need to be addressed.

Lastly is the Ambience section. Delays and reverbs. These should be split to seperate banks. The reverbs are pretty good, but sound a little flat without tweaking. The delays are good and there are lots of variations.

There are some really good, usefull sounds, but many are intollerable. The biggest problem I have is the output level. This thing must be primarily designed to be used stand alone, because it just doesn't put out enough volume to drive an amp. This is also inexcusable.

Reliability : No Opinion
Seems well built. I'd use it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hate Korg's website. Never dealt with them for anything though.

Overall Rating : 7
I play all sorts of stuff and this thing is fun to play with, but I don't consider it a serious tool. I could never use it live because of the output levels. A lot of these effects need to be split up into different banks too. The fact that you can't used the modulation and pedal banks at the same time bites. No Chorus and Wha at the same time?

As I said fun, but not really great. This would be the perfect thing for a beginner to use in a bedroom. Actually a POD would probably be better for that, though it wouldn't have the diversity of this thing.

Since the Korg models vintage pedal distortion boxes and a few amp models it is different than the Boss, Digitech and Zoom units which model amp distortions. I find that I like the Korg distortions which go from classic rock to metal sounds. The metal distortion reminds me of the Boss HM pedal. I can't get a great clean (Fenderish) sound with the Tube OD setting, it is ok but doesn't compete with my Flextone. I run this into the effects return on my Flextone. The cabinet sims are cool in the effects return. This is one cool feature being able to select the cabinet. I like all the vintage effects too. The echoplex and mutron settings rock. The Vox wah is good, the ocatave is cool, all the effects sound really really good.

Very easy! I've used Korg pedals for years (from A5 to AX30G)and it's good to be able to access knobs rather than having to get into the patches by using dials and punching buttons. I've not had to do a great deal of editing as yet - although I've got some nice patches sorted out- but clearly the trade-off with this newer model is that you can't get into the wonderful world of pre EQ, tweking etc. Horses for courses...and if you're gigging, surely all you want to do is have quick access.

Sound Quality : 8
I use a Fender US Strat into an old Marshall Valvestate 8080 (soon to be upgraded to an AVT2000). I agree with other reviewers that it's a pity that Pedal and Modulation can't be used at the same time; and the Parameter pedal doesn't control the same number of effects as on the old AX30G (e.g. mike placement, depth of flange etc - it's main function is that of volume pedal. My other niggle is that the sample and play function doesn't work - no matter how hard I pressed the damn pedal I couldn't engage the little button! Must say that the feel of the pedal itself is good.As for the sounds of the original artists, the jury is out - the Korg's Jimi Hendrix patches have always sounded like mush to me - (send advice, fellow guitarists or KORG!)I don't need to sound like LIMPBIZKIT!

I'm into my 30th year of noodling (soul, blues mainly)and the Korg suits me. It would be nice if Korg could finally bite the bullet and produce a pro-spec floor unit (ie like B*S*) with no half measures (like the up/down feature)I'd be prepared to up-grade and pay the extra: as a world class producer of keyboards they should be able to cut the mustard. One tip to other users - always try the patches out alongside a backing track - many sound "wrong" on their own, whereas the sound is designed to be part of the mix. I've had a few dodgy moments when we're gigging and that elusive sound disappears, so practise in "anger". Oh yes, where are the patchmeisters that used to consort about the AX30G? All good patch suggestions/sites gratefully received!

This thing is the easiest way to make sounds. You've got to ve a fuckhead to not know how to use it. The manual is pretty specific and direct. Knobs, knobs, knobs. Just read and start playing.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using a Ibanez JEM 555 and a Marshall Valvestate VS100R. It makes noise only on the acoustic simulator and when you have the noise reduction on "0" (By the way really good system of noise reduction, It only compromises your sustain when you put the NR level at more than 8).
The major part of the effects are great. Really organic delay (THE BEST DELAY I'VE EVER HEARD) and chorus. The reverb seems pretty digital, though. The wah and pitch shifter are not good, but usable. The distortions RULE!!!! The classic distortion really helps when you play Zeppelin or Beatles, and the METAL DISTORTION takes you to Dream Theater and Vai dimensions. YOU KORG BASTARDS!!! YOU DON'T LET US USE WAH AND PHASER AT THE SAME TIME!!! BAH!!!!
The FILTRON (ENVELOPE FILTER) is really cool. You can make it sound like a bunch of ducks or like a 70's-hendrixian kinda effect.
"I don't like the cabinet emulations, bla, bla, bla..." (Maybe that's because you're using a combo, you fucking idiot)
If you buy the AX1000G, buy a CryBaby 535QC and a DigiTech Whammy too, and you'll be in heaven.
AND YOU CAN DRIVE PEOPLE MAD WITH THOSE CRAZY VENUS MINDBLOWIN' EFFECTS!!!! (TALKER, TRAVELER, RING MODULATOR, U-VIBE!!! And combine them with your craziest delay, there you go!!!)

This thing is the thing to create your own sounds. Don't come here and tell me you wanna sound like someone else, you dumb-fuck.

As far as tweaking settings, its terrific, compared to the typical finger-numbing buttons on Digitech and others. I find it a breeze to dial in a setting during a song if I want to experiment in practice.

I wish it had one more stomp button on the bottom row so I didnt have to use the awkward bank up/down motions.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with a PRS CE-22 and a Fender Princeton Chorus. After a bit of experimentation I have made it virtually noiseless, which I appreciate. I use a Morley Bad Horsie Wah, too.

Actually, I have a question for others. I have experiemented with A) Using the 2 channels on my Fender to go from clean to distortion using the Korg for effects and a boost during solos and B) keeping my amp on the clean channel and using the Korg for everything.

Please write me with your thoughts on this. I realize its what you hear that counts, but I seem to like one for a while and then play with other set-ups. What do you folks do???

Otherwise, I am very happy with the sounds in general. I play a bunch of different styles and appreciate the flexibility this box gives me. I also found the wah and a couple other effects lacking, but sometimes that is just personal preferences.

The thing is set up with stompbox-like knobs and punchpad controls, so its easy to figure out. Most of the effects are easy to figure out, but I never could get a handle on the "hold and play" repeating stuff. Maybe I'm just lazy, though.

Sound Quality : 4
This thing has virtually no high end. I've played out of Rogue, Washburn, and Marshall amps, and direct into PA systems, and I always had the trouble of either no high end or way too much feedback. It has a variety of distortions, but if you can't hear any of them, what's the point? The cabinet simulators compress the signal and tweak the sound a little bit, but cut some of the distortion, too. The chorus, flanger, and delays (like 10 of them!) all sounded good, but the pitch shifter hella sucked. So does the wah, and the talker effect. My main problem with the thing was a lack of high-end. I just couldn't hear myself when I played with somebody else. And since sound is really all that counts...

It's the easiest multi-effect to use.
You turn the buttons as on an analog pedal.
The manual is clear and you don't really need it.
But experiment 1 effect first then, when you can control it, add a second that you know how to control too and so on.Then it will sound good.

Sound Quality : 7
It has a great noise gate so no problem, just sometimes, when it's on the max it can suck your sound.Effects are good not great. You can get good sounds and for the price you can't make better.
I love RadioHead and it's easy to get a good radiohead sound.
But it will never sound as good as pedals.
All effects are as good.
It's funny to have some new effects (Talk and Traveler).
It sound much better on a PA than on my amp...
You can't add a PEDAL with a MODULATION; so bad...:-((

It's the better m-e for the price and you've got a lot of sounds.
If you like a band then try to know what pedal they use and buy the same thing ;it's as expensive as buying a new multi-effect.

This is my 3rd multi-FX unit. Stereo/Mono output, headphone output, AUX input. When you are changing a perameter the ORIGINAL setting is marked of each individual perameter is marked. For example, if the original setting of your depth was set to 5 and you turn it to 10 and then down to 1 when you scroll past 5, "org" will light up meaning original setting. This way you never get lost. This is greate for editing your own patches and comparing where you are to where you were.

It really helps if you read the manual first and then things will fall into place much easier. Editing patches is easy and you can always reset to original. The manual is helpful with editing the patches.

I use a Fender Squier Strat with 57/62 re-issues and a 68 Telecaster (CAR - original). Definitely sounds better with noiseless pick-ups. I play through a Fender Princeton Chorus amp. I play in an Elvis band (lots of reverb, echo and tube OD) but I like to play Dick Dale, the Ventures and SRV. The unit works best on stage with a good sounding amp set at that perfect setting when the amp sings. The hall reverb, the multi head echo, black phaser, classic flanger work great. The vox wah-wah works good at "stage levels". The distortions are good. The compression works great "on stage". The acoustic is fantastic but noisy (too bad). On stage "muted" tuning is great. The negative aspects are: slow switching between patches (I hate that), the by-pass is poor, the cabinets aren't usable on stage and no midi.

No opinion as of yet. I've only played 3 gigs with it.

I play Elvis, SRV, the Ventures, Stray Cats and Country. This unit covers it all. It sounds much, much better on stage than in my room. It would be nice if it had seamless switching, midi and unrestricted effects combinations but then the cost would be triple. I also tried Line 6 amps, the POD and RP2000. They were fine also but cost was the main difference. It definitely has added to my playing but in the future I will probably upgrade to a seamless unit or just use Boss Compression and Digital Delay pedals with my amp's distortion, chorus and reverb.

this should be a piece of cake for anyone who knows their stompboxes, and much easier than the average multiprocessor even for those who *don't* know a phaser from a tazer. the knob-thing finally seems to have caught on in a big way in the guitar-processing sector of the MI industry, and this device uses them to great effect (no pun intended). if you've got this box and you end up using the factory presets, you should be shot. there is NO excuse for not doing your own programming when the rewards are so great and the interface is as easy as this one.

Sound Quality : 7
i wrote an earlier review in which i mentioned the frustration of not being able to use two "modulation" effects simultaneously. this is still the most obnoxious, infuriating aspect of the 1000G's design, and i have a hard time forgiving korg for saddling an otherwise powerful box with such a ridiculous, shortsighted limitation.

you may not see why i'm angry until you note that modulation effects include chorus, wah, modulated delay, filtering, tremolo... you name it. an envelope filter through a square-wave tremolo? wah with phaser? sure, i'd love to do it. i can't without using another stompbox or multi-FX unit. uh, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a multi-FX box with modeling and "individual" switching capabilities (i.e. it can act like a pedalboard)?

i've spent some serious time programming on this unit, and not a day goes by when i don't damn the souls of korg's R&D department to neverending torment for their CPU-stinginess. you hear that, korg? HELLFIRE UPON THEE. ETERNAL HELLFIRE.

that said: the box sounds pretty good overall, compared to its peers. chorus, delay/tape echo, and most of the other modulation effects are pretty good and warm (the filter algorithms, however, are a little on the harsh/tinny side). the built-in sampler is practically unusable because it's tied to the hard-to-activate footpedal, and many people have alluded to the fact that the wah ain't too great. i miss the squarewave tremolo from the AX1G; actually, many of the effects in this box are the exact same as the 1G algorithms, with additional control over certain parameters. ironically, it appears as if the new 100G may have some new algorithms contained therein.

as for the amp-modeling aspect, the thing will do in a pinch, but it's not the end-all-be-all of amp modeling devices. look to yamaha for that. but as a *stompbox* modeler, it does a decent job-- the overdrive is passable and a few of the heavier distortions are usable with some serious fine-tuning time. (a response to some of the idiots below: when playing through an amp, turn the cabinet modeling OFF. this option is for direct recording, not for turning your practice amp into a 4x12.) sadly, if you want a clean tone, you'll be pretty much forced to play through the compressor algorithm to maintain any level at all. go figure.

you *will* lose tone going into this box. keep in mind that your signal is going through an A/D and D/A before it gets back out to your amp. this is true of all devices of this ilk. the 1000G does a better job of maintaining your tone than other such processors, but it's still far from perfect. it would be REALLY nice if they could arrange for true-bypass. it could be done.

i have created one unconventional signature sound on the 1000G that i used for literally an entire album. i've come up with numerous other things ranging from totally cliche to far-out, and the 1000G normally performs quite well in all these capacities. the user interface speeds creativity for the "artiste," or if you've got no personality, you could easily use this to imitate all your favorite players' sounds. (you could also shove the 1000G right up your fender-playing, tab-reading, korn-zep-and-dave-matthews-band-loving ass.)

the box has been powered up almost nonstop since i've had it (nine months?), and gigged a few times. so far, no hiccups.

a recommended purchase, with the following caveats:

a) if you are attracted to the advertised amp modeling on this unit, purchase a yamaha DG stomp instead. trust me.

b) if you like freakish sounds, consider the purchase of three AX1Gs rather than the 1000G. the editing suffers, as do a *few* of the effects, but you will have much more processing power overall with this admittedly ludicrous setup. (note: do not expect to use the 1G on a dark stage.)

c) korg: SMACK. give us the "modulation." lots of it. now.

now, dammit.

Programming this thing is dead easy. The manual is minimal, but tells you everything you need to know. It has knobs, and they pretty much correspond to the knobs on the stompboxes they are modelling, so dialing in a good sound is as easy as it was with my old boxes. I had it pretty much set up to my liking in less than 30 minutes. While I usually run a direct box out of my amp, I also tried going directly from the AX1000G to the board. That seemed to be the best setup for me, as it allowed me to control my stage volume and tone without coloring the effects. It sounded great either way, though. The inclusion of an AC adaptor was a good selling point. Also, the unit I bought had been returned by someone else, and had a few odd patches that the previous person had tried to program. Reinitializing the unit is a snap, but does require you to read the manual. That's a good thing, because I would hate to be able to accidentally reinitialize it and lose all of my own patches.

I'm using a Gibson Nighthawk Standard and a Mesa/Boogie DC-5. I usually run the recording output of the Mesa into the board via a direct box. At my last gig, I tried running guitar-effect-amp-di and guitar-effect-di-amp and had great sound quality either way. I ended up settling for the latter, as it allowed me greater control of my stage volume without giving the sound man a big headache chasing my volume settings. Some of the more distortion-oriented patches hiss a bit, but with the noise reduction dialed in, you can pretty much nip that in the bud. The sound out front was really full and lush, and had lots of life. The noise reduction settings are critical, as I had dialed in a little too much at first and ended up losing some sustain. It was very easy to fix, though, thanks to the knobs. I really dig the vocal effect used in the "BISKIT" patch. The distortions are, well, distortion (you really have to work at it to screw up a distortion box). The chorus models are very full sounding, and the phaser is a dead-on MXR replica. It has a really hip MuTron-type envelope filter (auto wah) which is fun to use during our 60s medley. The wah, while not a Crybaby, is pretty good. Anybody who has had problems with it might try recalibrating their pedal. It's easy to do, and the manual gives good instructions. I play in a country/rock cover band, so I need to be able to get lots of different sounds for the different styles we play. This unit really delivers. Of course, it really helps to have a good working knowledge of the effects used so you know what to tweak. As a 20+ year veteran of stompboxes, I found it pretty easy. If you haven't dealt with stompboxes, I could see where you could possibly get overwhelmed. The amp models aren't perfect replicas, but they're close enough that only a major purist could tell the differences.

Reliability : 9
I brought my boxes as a backup last night, but they ended up just being dead weight. The unit is built tough. If I could change anything, I would have put some kind of rubber membrane over the pedal on/off switch, as I could see gunk could get into the unit through the hole. Other than that, I don't foresee any problems with it. I treat my stuff pretty carefully, but I think it could take some abuse without any major heartache.

Customer Support : 9
Can't say, but I've had Korg stuff in the past and only had to contact them once, back in the 80s. I had a Korg keyboard go bad, and they fixed it without any hassles (it was under warrantee). I'm sure that it would be the same.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
One of the main reasons I bought this unit was because it modeled stompboxes instead of people, if you know what I mean. While it's nice to be able to sound like Van Halen, if you don't play like him then what's the point. I've been playing long enough (30 years) to have a distinctive style, so I'm more interested in coloring my sound than sounding like anybody in particular. The factory patches, for the most part, need some tweaking, but that's no big surprise. As I mentioned before, I play country/rock covers. I needed a unit that would be really versatile, yet wouldn't require a college degree to program. I shopped around for quite a while, and tried all of the different units out there, even some that were much more expensive. For me, the value for the money was what led me to the Korg AX1000G. It's compact, light (about 5 lbs), looks and sounds good, and is the easiest thing to program, especially "on the fly". It would be nice if it had MIDI, but I can live without it. If it were stolen, I would definitely get another one. If anybody has some interesting patches to share, drop me a line.

Hi Guys,
I'm hunting for my sound and I came across the Korg 1000G. I heard a great deal about it and the ratings at HC never went below 7. I went to the shop and tested the unit. I spent 2 hours with it and I left the place with digital paranoia and the feeling of nausea. The unit sucked big time and I feel it is an attempt by a keyboard manufacturer to fool the guitarist just by the size of it. If it's big and expensive then it must be good. I didn't fall for it.

First thing that decides the quality of sound in today's processors is the sampling frequency and the Analog/Digital-D/A conversion rate. Individual effects sound good as they are Analog all the way. The skimpy 8 page leaflet made no mention of this(Korg trying to hide something?) CD's are sampled at 48 Khz at 16-bit and the new recording format from Sony samples at 24-bit, 96 Khz. Zoom and Digitech mentions this and even the DSP used. Would you buy a PC without knowing which Chip is in the box?

I was looking for something to create new distortions + Compresssor. Coupled with a good Wah plus a few fancy ones like phaser, Chorus etc and a PCM Drummer. Nothing sounds close to any amp mentions instead it sounds like a keyboard distortions. Tried many guitars and amps but all I could hear was digital sound. The distortions were buzzy and farty.SUSTAIN???. The Vox-wah had no effect with distortion. The Cabinet emulator is a waste. But mainly the parameters were limited only to gain and EQ. The knobs had lights which went on and off like an electronic dice. Tuner didn't give unusual tunings. Pedal was good but you hit the bottom soon enough like any processor. Nothing like the Cry Baby feel. The presets give some flangey, echoey and repeated sounds. You sound like in a cave but who wants that reverb. These sounds might be useful to emulate Steve Vai but how many can play half as good as him.

What was Korg trying to achieve here? The 1G is great and sounds better than the 1000G. The cabinet resonator is better than the big brother's. Only the 1000g has direct access to the effects and a better pedal. But no way I'm gonna pay twice the price for something that sounds the same. I'm happy to push small buttons and program my own sound. Look what digitech and Zoom have to offer. The Zoom GFX-8 can hook up to the PC and one can create own distortions with frequency curves. There are 3-4 unique parameters for each effect. The RP100 is a small devil(cheap) and coupled with a crybaby or a Vox should go great. Atleast you know what is the sampling frequency.I just hope Korg gets it right with the 100G. My choices for now are Rp100, RP2000, AX100g, Gfx-8 or even the Gfx-707. But I'll test them thoroughly before making up my my mind. I won't be fooled by the appearence, I'll just use my ears. These models still haven't arrived in India.

I'm not a pessimist but I just wrote what I know and felt about a product. There may be many who swear by The 1000G but I'm not convinced and still looking for that sound. I feel Half your sound and 90% of your Tone lies with your guitar. Can you sound like Satriani/Vai on a Les Paul or like Mark Knofler with your Ibanez. You can but each guitar is unique and the directions they're headed is different.

It's unbelievable how easy this unit is to work with, editing, saving, renaming and fiddling with all kind of parameters is a breeze. I never even read the manual. (actually i dont think i got one)

Im mostly play a Ibanez Rg470 with Evolution pickups through a Marshall Valvestate 8240 Combo. I have other guitars aswell, like a danelectro and a new 67' Es335 but i dont use the Korg with them. I use it for the small to medium sized club gigs. Used between the guitar and the amp it doesnt sound anyway near what i want. It definitely does not sound like the tube amps it somewhat claims to sound like and for the 4x12 modern and 1x8 tweed.. well. It just doesnt gel. But thats not the point here. It may not emulate the different amps very well but it still sounds pretty good and if you are looking for a multieffect's processor with a reasonable price tag, i would say go for it. (just stay away from the wah!)

Even though the first Korg Ax100G i got was broken, Dead at arrival. the one i have now is working fine and has been withouth a backup for some twenty gigs.

I have never dealt with Korg.

I play Hard rock music, Bryan Adams type pop and top40 music.
Ive been playing for some six years.
Is this piece would be stolen i.. dont think id buy a new one. dont get me wrong now, it is not because there is something wrong with it. I simply dont use all those effects and would probably be better off without them. My favourite feature with this piece of equipment is the Delays, the reverbs and the 1x8 tweed spekare simulation!
