The Ax1000G is fairly easy to use, but there are some design changes
that I would like to see that would make things much easier. It's ok
for sitting around the house or in the studio. But changes on stage
are somewhat cumberome.

I use a 1989 Strat 57 reissue through a (major mod'd) Fender Bassman.
The unit is quiet, with the possible exception of the Acoustic patch.
I play in a cover band out of Atlanta, we are all ex-pros. don't practice. We take requests (stump the band kinda thing) so I need a
quick access. I am moderately satified with that aspect.

I seems roadworthy, at least it's metal. We'll see. I always
carry a backup, which will be the G-3.

I've been playing all my life ( 40 plus) In my family, most are all entertainers. I play in a cover band out of Atlanta, we are all ex-pros. don't practice. We take requests (stump the band kinda thing) so I need a quick access. I am moderately satified with that aspect. However,I wish you could view the patch you are going to. I had to use the G-3 with a A/B box in order to carry the sound while I change the settings on the Korg. The manual sucks. Maybe they could have written a "crash" course for those who would complain about " too technical", then maybe a little more detailed further on in the same manual. The
loop function does not work as described in the manual.
In order to change some of the patches, I found it easier to
find all of the "original settings" then move from there. This also is
hard to do on stage. I would not expect to walk right on stage and
play this thing, but if you wire it in to your current setup and
work with it seems to be the way to go. If they would incorporate
an A/B setting( or maybe a 2nd display for whats in cue), I'd be a happy guy.

This thing is great for practicing or trying to find a particular
sound.Does it sound just like a expensive tube amp? No. Can it
change the sound enough to make a decent replication. Yes. It
actualy sounds good in front of a tube amp.

If you want something to direct record with you may want to look at
one of the other processers. If you want something that is an excelent
practice tool that has about everything you need, this thing is for
you. I can't find any down sides, not perfect but very good.

Not too bad, but some combinations need to be found via the manual. The patch selection pedals were too close together for me. But the bank down combination was not a real issue. Knobs are better for tweaking.

I'm using either a Peavey Cropper Classic or USA Tele in to a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe tube amp. The only drive setting I half liked was the Brit Stack. No cabinet emulations were any good thru the amp and any clear ones seemed to suck the life out of the tone of the amp. This pedal, even bypassed i.e. with no preamp/cabinet/fx on still took something away from the guitar tone which didn't impress me. I spent a lot of hours trying to get a good sound thru the amp and giged it once (with even more messing) but so much life seemed to go from the amp that I've gone back to pedals.
Through the headphones though, the pedal was great. But I wanted it for live work and it didn't cut it for me.

It's metal but the volume/wah pedal didn't seem that solid (compared to a Dunlop). Didn't have it long enough to comment otherwise. Should be OK if you look after it. The plastic cover over the LCD was thin and flimsy (like thick cling-film) and was scratched out of the box.

I'd spent a lot of time looking in to a an all-in-one unit and the Korg appeared to fit the bill. I'm very disappointed that it didn't work out which is a shame. Just sounded too digital and lifeless thru a tube amp. I still think, it's a good product, just not right for me.

I use this with a Jackson ATX and/or a Peavy Predator. I don't like the sounds on it at all, apart from the 'Tallica' clean sound, which is amazing. In fact, this is the only effect I use on it except the delay (I use my boss metalzone pedal and the amp's reverb/chorus.

I only bought this so I didn't have to spend so long setting up my ice box chorus/metalzone distortion and cry baby. Unfortunatly, the wah is awful (I have a #30 cheap plastic wah pedal that sounds 10 times better), the chorus isn't anything special and the distortion is ok if you're not picky but I like heavy distorion with lots of drive. I wish that I'd saved a bit longer and bought the Boss GT3.

This thing is full of "good" sounds, but not many I consider "great", but it is better then most of the other floor processers I have tried.
It has a usable manual included, amazing. I got this thing to use as a practice aid & recording tool, but have not used it to record with yet. Very simple to use, as it is all "knob" based, easy to edit. Hell, if I can figure it out in a few minutes you surely can. I don't like many (non really) of the factory presets, and I have to question buying a effects unit with programs like "corn, bizkit & dyme". Oh, its EASY to use. Not having a real on-off switch bothers me too, it automaticly comes on when you plug it in. I'm just old school I guess.

I use several axes and amps, but mostly play through a Gibson E2 Explorer or a Fender Strat with EMGs (all single) into a Rivera 55-12 or a Rivera M60 combo. This thing is a very good headphone amp, but it doesn't get loud enough (using the phones) for me, but I'm going deaf to I guess. The reverbs and delay are well.....digital. The wah to me is almost unusable, I won't be parting with my Vox wah anytime soon, at least for this one, or any other digital wah I've heard so far. The distortion is merely OK on most counts. I like my amp distortion and will use a dedicated pedal of my choice if I need more gain. Korg's "REMS" has come a long way compared to the way like units sounded even 5 years ago. In the drive-amp & cabinet block you have 11 choices (for each) to choose from. Then you can adjust the drive, level, treble, mids, and bass AND adjust (for the cabinet) the air, level & presence.
This is where your distorion or acoustic (or other basic tones) comes from. I use the above mentioned for headphones only, as I have a REAL amp's tone I like much better. When switching cabinet sounds you WILL notice a difference (REALLY!!!) between, say a 1-8 and 1-12 tweed or a much bigger difference between a 4-10 tweed or 4-12 modern. The modularion block has Classic & Stero chorus, Classic Flanger, Mod delay, black & Orange phaser, textrem, pitch shifter, filtron,, auto wah and octave. Out of the ones listed, I like the filtron and auto wah best. The rest of the mod effects sound passable with headphones, but are lacking (to my ears) when run into the loop of my Rivera. I don't like the tremolo at all on this one, but then again I don't like "digital" trem on anything really. The pedal block gives you 11 more choices (volume, vox, traveler, talk, chorus-flanger. univibe, pitch bend, ring mod, hold, tap and sample & play delay. I have no comment on the ring mod as I don't use them and never have liked them. Remember some of the pedal effects WILL NOT work with the mod effects.
Now, this is the reason I got this in the first place. I wanted a sampler with decent delays, and this does the job just fine, thank you. Its not gonna make you get rid of your old EH unit, but it works pretty good. The sample and play part is cool, it will let you record 8 seconds and play it back however you see fit, including backwards, this is way more fun then it sounds. The U-vibe is sort of cool, but you won't be using it if you have a real one, same for the wah. The Vox wah DOES NOT sound like a Vox wah to me, surprise (yeah, I got a real one). The ambience block is the other reason I got this thing, and you have 11 choices here as well. The tape echo doesn't sound like a tape echo to me, but it's far better then other floor processers I have heard, it really and truely is. I'm a sort of delay and wah freak. The reverb is passable, but again its not exactly a long pan Hammond. Some of you guys love the digital verb, I do not. Same with delays, I like ANALOG delays, but I also like LONG delays and well, digital works OK for that. So really, I got this to use for the delays, sampler, tuner, metronome, filtron, and thats about it. Well, that's about the only effects I will run into my amp with this thing. The rest of them, again sound cool into headphones.

I play metal and roots rock for the most part. It works OK for that and may even be KILLER for the new rock and metal tones, but I don't play that shit at all. If it were stolen I'd look for something else with more sampleing time, as thats what I really use it for. I've been playing for 18 years or so now. I love the IDEA of this thing, a all in one box, but I have picky ears, and know what I like to hear. This thing DOES help me create, I'll give it that. With a new baby coming, I'd say I'll be using this thing alot more too. It's kinda cool as I can do a loop and play over it by myself. It also has a nice tuner, the metronome comes in handy, and the delays are passable. I wanted a practice "toy" and this works fine for that respect, but it just doesn't have the sound I like (overall) to use with my Rivera M60.
Again, I'm old and set in my ways, I like certain distortions, delays, wah's, ect...
You know what? Try it and see if you think its the best thing since sliced bread or not.

i use an epiphone les paul standard through an ibanez ts7 tubescreamer into the korg and finally into my Crate GFX-212....it can get pretty noisy but it has a noise reduction system that you can use(but you lose alot tone at low volume if you have it above 8) i play mostly punk with some silverchair thrown in there and i can easily get any distortion sound i want plus the presets are made after many guitar heroes or bands(etc. dime, korn, zepplin, lizzy, bizkit), what's also cool about this thing is that most of the distortions(minus us high gain) are based on stompboxes not amp distortions so you don't have to go out and buy a big muff, boss metal zone etc. they're already there...the modulation effects sound great i love the phaser and flanger...the pitch bend sound likes shit but i don't use it during any songs so no skin off my ass :-)

This thing is usable right out of the box (like we all do). Great pre-sets that are very tweekable with KNOBS. It's very easy to find where you want to be to change the settings. Very discriptive in their lables. The pre-sets are a good reference to create your custom pre-sets and the manual specifies what effects are where in the chain (saves some time. Good manual, but it was hard to get to the sample play feature without playing around (I used a Digitech delay for years- I expected the same functionality)

The amp selections can be extreem, but the speaker selection compliments things nicely. Lots of colors to work with. You could just change the speaker setting by song and leave the amp pick the same. The thing is dead quiet, if that where you want to be. Very transparent NR (although, changing the parameters are very limited). A lot of room to play with the levels of individual efects as you mix them together. Live, it's great to be able to bend over tweek a knob and know where you'll be. Very predictable, but scary if you don't practice what happens when you experiment. Pre-sets are geared more towards scooped out and gained tones, but there is so much room to tweek that you could live in pre-set land 90% of the time and still not feel guilty about it.
Great chorus, flange, wah and delys/echo. The Leslie thing just should of been scapped. It's terrible. A ton of room to work with the delays. Playing with the EQ on the feedback delays is very cool. I wish that the pedal had delay time functions. The pedal is excellent. More of a VOX Wah type, which is not bad, but very touhing on the wah and modulation efects like the, can be very obnoxious LFO (a la Shaft on Viagra).

I'm a self taught very unique, but appreciated player that does aggressive and accoustic minded stuff. A deadnirvanayoungbobcure thing. I've been at it for a while. I play a Carvin DC135 T. (You've got to look at the Carvins- sorry) through either an old Rickenbacher solid state 100 W combo or a Peavy Classic 30. I used a Sans Amp GT2 before this adition (and I haven't looked back-as much as I loved that thing).
I've sampled the Zoom and BOSS comp and this one beats them easily.
Unfortunately, you can't combine individual modualtion effects. These effects are so fat it would be unreal to be able to mix and match.
Hey, I rely on good old HC for a great deal of my education. I hope I've influenced you in a positive way which I feel is "Buy the damn thing!" Best under $500 thing I ever bought.

At the risk of sounding like every other reviewer on this page, I have to say that this pedal is extremely easy to use. Because the parameter controls are knob-based, I can actually make changes onstage in real time. Anyone who's used multi-effect pedals in a performance environment before knows what a hassle it can be to try to tweak parameter buttons on the fly while looking at a little screen.
Unlike some others, though, I did use the manual, mainly to figure out how to access the tuner and set up tap delays.
I found it very easy to get a great sound out of this box.

I play a 69 tele with Lindy Fralin Pickups and a Fishman Powerbridge. When I bought this pedal, I ran it stereo through two Roland JC120's, which is, I think, the ultimate setup with this pedal. Unfortunately, those amps were stolen, and I couldn't afford to replace them. Now I run the pickups through the Korg and into (in stereo) an Ampeg Superjet reissue and a Roland Blues Cube. Both are 50-watt amps, so I have plenty of volume. I go for a clean sound out of the amps, and let the pedal provide the distortion. I run the Peizo straight into the PA. When I combine the acoustic sound from the Fishman with a slightly distorted sound from the amps, I have the largest, most awesome guitar sound known to man!
I have to admit that when I bought this pedal, I was a little disappointed in the sound quality. After playing with it for awhile, I realized that it was just the presets themselves that sucked. The unit is capable of great sound--it just doesn't come programmed that way from the factory. The thing I like best about the sound of this pedal is its versatility. Other multipedals I've used gave my guitar variations on the same sound. This one has enough different stuff in it to give you lots of completley different sounds. I've also had the experience of playing with other guitarists who owned multi-pedals (can you say "digitech?"). I noticed that most of them sounded like their amps were stuck in a cave somewhere. This pedal sounds more "in your face." Most every effect sounds great, though I rarely use the univibe or the traveller wah. Also, I wish I could modify the eq range on the regular wah.
Other drawbacks: because of the way the sounds are arranged, I can't always use the combinations I'd like. For instance, you can't compress a distorted sound, or chorus a sound with wah. I also wish the phase shifter sounds were a bit more extreme. These are minor complaints, though.

I'm not a player who uses a lot of reverb or extreme distortion. I'm not interested in doing an 80's style high-tech "Lukather" thing, or even a Vai/Satriani "shredder" thing, though I do enjoy those kinds of music (Holdsworth is my favorite player). I play in two bands. One, based in New Orleans, is soul/R&B/blues band, with a sweaty, 60's vibe. When I joined the band, I needed some retro-sounding effects. I was already using a Marshall Guvnor and an old Tube screamer. I pondered buying a Crybaby, a Phase 90 and a Dyna-comp, then I stumbled across the review of the Korg in Guitar Player and decided save some money and make my stage setup simpler. This pedal was the answer on both counts.
My other band is a Top 40 dance band that plays just about everything danceable, mostly classic rock and 70's soul. Most of our business consists of big conventions, Mardi Gras Balls, and weddings. I play bass in this band, and I tried the Korg on bass at a few gigs. It worked pretty well, though I stopped using it because the only effect I use more than once a night is an envelope follower, and my Bassballs pedal sounds better for that effect. The chorus sounded good on bass, but it doesn't make that much difference--in an eight-person horn band, bass chorus doesn't exactly stand out.
One interesting note--the guitar player in my dance band is a real gear-head. He was playing his modified strat through one of those expensive Mesa Boogie pedals and a whole batch of other things--chorus, wah, compressor, octaver, etc. into a Rivera amp. He was always griping about how complicated his setup was, and how different his tone sounded from room to room. I loaned him the Korg overnight, and he bought one the next day. Now, he just plays the Korg pedal through a Fender Twin, and it sounds, I kid you not, better than his old rig!
If this pedal were stolen, I would certainly buy it again.

I play with a custom 76 Gibson S-1 which has a humbucker/single coil configuation and go through a fender M-90 chorus amp. The settings with a lot of distortion are more noisy but I believe it could be my amp since the thing is soo loud evan at low settings. Nevertheless, the effects are outstanding! I used to play through a cry baby and and tube screamer but this Korg can do the same job better and with more variety. And after much time trying to find that ever desired Texas blues tone (ala SRV) I think I can get away with it using the AX1000-G. By the way, when I use my Seagull 12 string on the acoustic setting with some chorus and a little tweaking, the icey cool sounds that are coming out keep blowing my mind. Ive been playing for 9years now and my style of playing is blues baby all the way. I write my music this way and look to guys like SRV, Clapton, BB-King, and Santana for influence. Since I play in a praise and worship band at my church, I try to offer the best I can and this processor just added to the sound about 60%. I use the Gibson S-1 for the more faster and bluesier music and a Seagull 12 string cedar top as well as Jumbo Fender spruce top for the more subtle and gentler music. I love the Ice cool sounds generated by the chorus and phaser in this processor. The only thing I didn't like about this processor is the way it gives you a series of preset patchess on pedals 1-4. You can't mix and match the way you can seperate stomp boxes so you have to edit or copy from the manual the settings in the order you want using the 40 user patches. You end up with the same patches twice only in different places which seems to me to be a bit wasteful but at least you have 40 editable patches to work with. Also the preset patch settings don't seem to sound exactly the same once they have been copied. I have to tweek a little to get the exact same sound of the preset patch if I want it. Other than that I don't have any other gripe. I did compare it with The Digitech RP something or another but it was a bit harder to use and it didn't give as much versitility, and the DOD was plastic and looked cheap. I chose this product because it seemed to give me more for my money soundwise and quality wise. This definately helps me make my music sound better, but of course your playing always determines what you sound like in the end. I would replace this processeor again if it were lost but if Korg could top it at around the same price I would consider. <><

This definately helps me make my music sound better, but of course your playing always determines what you sound like in the end. I would replace this processeor again if it were lost but if Korg could top it at around the same price I would consider. <><

This thing is the easiest multi i've ever seen! you can figure it out in a minute without looking at the manual! it's knob based so
editing patches is really quich and easy. it has 80 patches, 40 user and 40 presets. it also has a great chromatic tuner in it. i was amazed how easy it was to get a really great sound out of this thing. five minutes after i got it i already had a few nice patches of my own. i used to own a zoom gfx-707 and i sat with that thing for hours and couldn't get a good sound out of it.

i use the korg with a les paul custom and a peavey amp and it sounds amazing! there is a really vast selection of great distortions. there is a problem that bugs me a lot... if you create a clean patch you can't control its volume! so i need all my other patches to be fairly quiet (low volume) so that they will sound good compared to the clean patch. if it sounds confusing, sorry...
the acoustic simulator is the only noisy effect... it's a shame cause it sounds real. the other effects are just great! there are a lot of cool stuff you can assign to the expression pedal... to make a long story short, this is a really wicked little device.

i've only gigged with it once since i got it... Unfortunatly i decided to wear my wider shoes and i had some trouble changing effects on stage since the 1,2,3,4 buttons are not so far apart.
i never had this problem at rehearsals though. as far as backup goes, i don't think i'll ever use a backup with this thing - it's made of metal and i believe it'll last long.

I just love the sounds that come out of this pedal! i think the most noticeable feature of this multieffects pedal is its ease of use.
it's just amazing how easy and quick it is to get a great sound out of it! another thing i really like is that it doesn't have all these fancy gimmicks and features you're never gonna use. it has exactly what you need, no more, no less. if i ever lost it i would undoubtedly buy it again, and again and again.

I was trying this through headphones at a shop, and didn't get to
try it through an amp. Everything was ok apart from the overdrives
which don't have an good, extended "in-between" sound. I have an
Award-Session JD10 preamp, and that knocks the spots off it for that
bluesy edge-of-breakup sound. My Marshall Guv'nor also has something
that the Korg does not. Maybe I needed to tweak more with the parameters, but I felt the mild overdrives let it down. The more extreme overdrives sounded fine, but then that seems easier to achieve. I also tried the AX1G through a Vox Cambridge 15 Watt amp,
and despite the options of the AX1G being poorer, it sounded better
when coming through an amp than the AX1000G did through headphones,
so perhaps the AX1000G will do well for live work, but needs extra
help for direct recording. Even the AX30G seems better for mild overdrive on the AX30G's DST2 setting, I felt. I didn't really notice much difference in sound quality between the AX1G and the AX1000G except that the AX1000G has a lower noise floor.
I was using my Brandoni Telecaster for the test (Kent Armstrong
pickups).

Well, I was under the impression that this unit was capable of being run inline into a normal guitar amp as opposed to a Pod or RP whatever
that really need to just use a power amp. I've tried it with my TSL 100 both in line and in the loop. I tried to use this in two respects;
first, strictly as an effects unit(delays.verbs,ect.) and secondly with the amp/and/or cab sims + effects. In the loop it sounded terrible and in line it sounded terrible. Strictly using just its effects I thought they were cheap sounding. This Marshall has lots of gain, which is a reason I got it. Why would I want to stick a digital distortion in front of it? I'm getting to my point. I can absolutely forget about using this unit with an amp in which I also want to have the pure sound of that amp also available. Why? Because it seems that this unit totally sucks the lifeforce out of that amp be it in line or in the effects loop. So even if I want to use just the effects and have the pure amp tone availabe it won't work. It simply murders the gain and tone of my amps. HOWEVER, and which is why I didn't give it a low rating, is that if you intend to use the unit as a COMPLETELY SELF CONTAINED tone processing environment, I think it works very well. When practicing its great because I can really get some really over the top distortions and harmonics with this thing. It needs to be paired up with just a power amp section or a clean sounding amp. Working as a unit, the effects sound good and lose much of their cheap sounding quality.
So in essence, I just view it as another tone making device along with everything else. I'm going to try running this thru an a/b/a+b box and into another amp set as clean as possible ( I currently don't own a power amp) just to widen the tonal palette.

I never really liked having to use distortion pedals. I'm of the mind that the amp has got to be able to deliver the sound, pure and simple. So in that way, I don't like the idea of spending so much $$$ on a couple of new Marshall heads and not use the tone that God (and Marshall) bestowed them with. So sticking something like the AX1000G in the signal path renders them useless. However, if someone could show me how to get this thing NOT to suck an amps tone, then I'm all ears.

I only tried this thing out for about half an hour in the Guitar center and it was sick is hell!!!!!!!!!! It was so easy to use without a book or anything. Not to the point where you can start controling everything but easy enoungh so you know what your doing. What I really like is how I instantly caught on the levels and limitation (few) of this thing. The pedal is also good. Not too stiff and hard *cough*RP2000*cough*. I only had one problem though. I hit hard as hell on pedals and I have a big foot. Sometimes I activated the pedal on/off sswitch and didn't know it because my big foot was covering it. I also wish the scree was bigger and was backlit so I can play at night without the lights to bother everyone.
It also takes some time to get used to the Dleays.

The sound quility was great. I was playing it with a RG Custom to a Fender Delux (I think). Sometimes it can get quiet on effects like the Pitch Bender, but then I just turn up the guitar and amp. I was suprised that I didn't get feedback at lout volumes. It had some cool effects I never used like the Uni-Vibe and the Traveler. The way all the effects sound helped bring out loads of creativity (usually little is involved in what I play) in me. In minutes I was making funky bass lines with the Tube Overdrive and the Wah. I had people heads knockin' in that store. There were a few limits in versitility so I gave Sound a 9

For those of you considering other units, I own a POD and a Boss GT-5. I like this unit better than either of those. I also own a Marshall Slash head, a Marshall 900 SLX and a Marshall dual mono block power amp with a JMP pre-amp. I have a modified Fender Prosonic with a true master volume installed in the external speaker output, and a pair of Jensen reissues inside, along with a Fender Deluxe Reverb. I know what tube amps sound like. I bought this thing to play late at night so my wife and kid can hear themselves. I am very satisfied with the sounds. I don't notice any noise problems, and the effects are very good and basic. I do not care for far out effects. Chorus, tremelo, reverb, phaser, and the like are what I need. The echo effects are great, and those alone are worth the price of the box. I was not concerned about price when I bought this thing; I bought it because it sounded so good and was very, very tweakable. I have never found any present on any unit to be adequate, as they all require some fine-tuning. Same with this unit, but if you can spare a fun-filled hour or two, you'll get the hang of all the subtleties. I play rock, and I'm not into super high gain (even though I own an SLX). This means I like a true, tube-like crunch which the Boss really cannot get without sounding too thin. The POD sounds dull, and through headphones lacks any stereo separation to the point where the sound sounds like its on tip of your head and not coming into each ear. The Korg sounds great through phones, although my experience with it through the front end of an amp is quite limited. I would highly, highly reccommend this unit to anyone who understands that you might need to spend an hour with it to learn how to adjust it to bring out the sounds you want. I would choose it over either the POD or the GT-5, but again, I'm a headphones/direct user, so guys wanting to go into the front end of an amp MIGHT feel differently.

It was very easy to use, and a lot of the presets I used the very first day I got it for Worship band. I found the 40 user patches easy to set with one problem, but it is not significant. When you call up a patch, unless you write down the settings even after you perform the write function, you cannot refer back to the dial position settingslike those written out in the Manuel for the presets. The manual is very good, but the system as a whole is set up to be very easy to program- you could do ok without the manual.I just wish the Korg had been a little more descriptive in the various models included.

I am using the AX1000 with a Tex Mex Strat with a LR Baggs Acoustic bridge system, through a Crate Acoustic Amp- which is like playing through a small PA. This pedal is great. I am intrigued by the acoustic simulations I can get to full on stack distortion. Especially like the Vox simulations with the various cabinet sounds. The cab sims can be set to work with a guitar amp to a PA, and they do add for me a fairly realistic sound of the tone I am seeking, and thats just part of it. Some of the effects are very cool. The univibe was a minor disappointment, but the delay stuff is loads of fun, more than makes up for as I said minor disappointment.

I play contempory Praise music in Church, alot of the music we do rocks from blues to slow songs requiring acoustic textures. So I need tones from AC-DC to ZZ Top, to Andrew Legg, the Eagles,Byrds, and U2. It is really fun to be playing with the Korg. People cannot figure out where the big amp sound is coming from, or the 12 string or light acoustic- my guitar is fairly chimmy through any amp but there is a real enhancement without paying mega bucks. To be honest, it is the poor man's Lexicon, but then I do not have 1500 for the Lexicon and another 400 for its controller either. I had an ME-30 but it just did not sound very good in compraison to the Korg. The Korg does a lot of sounds very well, and is very easy to use unlike the Boss. I had my choice of the Korg over a Digi Tech, and choose this because the sound was as good, easy to program, has an echo plus and a multihead echo delay (with tape junk sound noise)that is alot of fun,tap delay, anfd a 8 second looper to boot- and all this in a package that is cheaper. I can play Neil Young grunge to Eagles and the Byrds and Tom Petty with the ease of a button- now if they only would quit telling me to turn down.

A floorboard with five footswitches, one expr. pedal, several buttons and eight knobs. The footswitches switch patches or effects on/off, the knobs edit parameters (unfortunately, no endless knobs and no "switch-to-parameter" option), the buttons are used for writing pateches etc. The effects don't have many parameters each, so programming this thing is dead easy. For bank down switching, you have to press two buttons simultaneously, for bypass/mute you have to hold one button long (0.5/1 s). The exp. pedal has an integrated switch which has a quite stiff operational characteristic.

The unit contains a drive/amp simulator, a cabinet simulator, a modulation section, a ambience section, a pedal section and a denoiser: drive/amp - cool for wild heavy sounds, the compressor algorithm is quite crappy. cabinet sim: I don't see any logic behind this block. mod: there's a set of vintage-style phasers, flangers and filters, all of which sound warm and very usable. Again, too few parameters. The pitch shifter is about one generation behind its time (my Boss SE-50 had better algorithms). ambience: the delays have - again - too few parameters - there are vintage-style echos (inc. a multihead echo, which unfortunately feeds back from the first head, so this becomes unusable with a feedback >0). There are a few ultra-primitive reverbs and echo/reverb combinations. pedal: apart from controlling master volume, it can control several mod or delay effects, in this case, the respective section becomes inoperative. Effects: Wah (some cool, some not so cool), Chorus/flanger, Tremolo/Panning, Pitchshift, hold delay, tap temp delay, loop delay (8 sec.). Again, too few parameters, plus the pedal can control only one pre-defined parameter. Cool: the loop contents remain intact when switching patches. Denoiser: ultra-primitive. I wouldn't use it on any but the lowest setting - this is more of a bad noise gate than a denoiser.

I use this thing as a dedicated effect/"preamp" for my Tune Gap6 bass guitar, going directly into a Behringer MX2642A console. The main weakness of the AX1000G is its inflexibility: there are 0-2 decent variations you can get out of every effect algorithm, cross-combine them in any order you might like, and you'll see that the 40 user patches are more than you'll ever need. On the other hand, the thing is easy to operate, got a good display, some of the effects (vintage or other) are quite cool, it's got a good chromatic tuner, and it's not too expensive...

I find this very easy to use. Editing patches is a snap with the analog pots, instead of the buttons that most manufacturers use these days.
A few gripes, though... - everytime I'd use one of the presets, it says "VOLUME" in the little LCD screen, and I'd have to give the compression or ambience knob a few turns before i could turn any of the other pedals off (i.e. Modulation, Amp type), but for some reason, the ambience pedal is the only one that turns off in this mode. Very queer. Another gripe...when i turn the compression pedal off, and turn it back on, it goes to that "VOLUME" mode that pisses me off so much. That's about it. No need for a manual for this thing.

SO GOOD!!!! I play an Epi Standard Les Paul with '57 classic pickups (great guitar, but everyone knows epi p/us suck baws) or a Powerhouse strat (awesome guitar) through a BOSS SD-1(eh...ok pedal, now that i have the KORG)which i just use for more grainy/feedback type sustain and a Crybaby 535q(amaaazzzing wah pedal), into a *vintage* marshall plexi half stack($500 dollars, major steal). Sounds great through these, except for a few things(again, sorry). The pitch shifter/whammy effects aren't that great. It sucks that they had to put a delay option on those, it was useless, so now everytime i pick a note, it has this weird "blip" sound before the full note sounds. Plan on getting the Digitech whammy reissue. The uni-vibe effect is...peculiar, i've been reading reviews about how a pedal-controlled uni-vibe would cost a fortune, so i guess it was on the upside. The Filtron is a fun effect to play around, you can get some great "disco-era" sounds with it if you set everything on ten(LOW VOLUME...my ears were ringing after doing that on high...the sound gets really really high pitched). Great sound quality on everything else though.

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to the world of effects- I didn't have aclue what the difference was between between a flanger or phaser or what one was for that reason, so the Korg looked a bit daunting when arrayed before me. However, despite what others have written about the lightweight manual, it was fine and explained everything sufficiently to know what you were up to yet leaving room for experimenting. The patches and presets are clearly stated and laid out, the pedal is easy to calibrate and the footswitches are sturdy and far apart enough for practical use.

I am using this with a single Mightymite humbucker pickup Tanglewood Trig through a crappy old Peavy practice amp, but hey this thinr absolutely screams through them. Once you have sorted the noise reduction and master volume setting, i got some really tasty sounds out of the unit. You have to put some effort into fine tuning, particularly with the amp setting, but it really blossoms when you spend a little time with it- mellow tones on the acoustic simulator and some nasty fuzz and distortion, not to mention a versastile effects pedal and pretty good autowah.

This is intuitive to use- knobs or keys to change parameters. The knobs are assigned different functions depending on the effect selected and they operate just like a stomp box. It is incredibly easy to get a great sound out of it from the get-go(provided you use a good amp). For most effects, the tweaking is as difficult as a stompbox. Editing patches is really easy. The manual is adequate. This replaces a Boss ME-30 which doesn't have the sound quality this unit does(especially the distortions) no matter how hard I would tweak,I couldn't get good sounds out of it. The same can be said of the new ZOOM GFX8 which is knob based also. Although there is quite a bit more depth of programability, the sounds suck compared to the Korg. I tweaked and tweaked on the Zoom but after an hour or so of playing with the distortion parameters and cabinet types, I still couldn't come up with one that was more than passable. I couldn't believe the sounds that came out of the Korg immediately and with a few twists of the knobs, I had a perfect sound. This all took about a minute or two.
The main negative comment I can think of right now is that, when in individual mode(manual mode), you can't access the tuner, you have to go back to play mode and access the tuner from there. But this can all be done by foot, so it's not that bad; just time consuming.

I put this between a Strat or 335 and a Trace Elliot Custom Shop Bonneville(4x10, 50watt, all tube combo). It sounds great!! And it's so much easier to lug around than the stomp boxes/pedals I used as the main stay or supplement to the ME30. I could go into detail here about the effects, but since there's something like 56, I'll just say that this thing really does live up to the hype(at least as far as the modeled pedals go). I don't need/want to use my old boxes anymore and that's the first time I've said that about a multi-effector. Most of the time, individual stomp boxes sound better than their counterparts on these things but not so here. I don't know how exact a replica they are if compared side by side, but they sound great! I don't use the cabinet settings except with the Vox AC30 model. When engaged, they've seemed to me to make the distortions sound cheap and reminiscent of the lousy Boss distortions on the ME-30. The AC30 model is just a tad too dark and actually sounds better w/a cabinet model.
Downside - The Wah is really quite good for clean playing but loses some of the sweep sound when used with distortion - the more dist., the worse it gets. Instead of "WAH", it just sounds like a glitch. Also, it doesn't seem to have much high end, it sounds about like the guitar when bypassed - i.e. not enough high-end in the sweep to please me. And there's no way to tweak it. I don't know if it'll replace my Dunlop 535Q yet. There seems to be a volume drop when engaged also.
It's not a true by-pass, so it cuts just a little transparency out of the guitar sound.

This thing can cover a ton of styles, since it has a ton of stomp box models. It can handle anything I want(rock, blues, pop, experimental). This is going to replace a bunch of stomp boxes. It truly has made them obsolete for me since it sounds just as good and its so moch easier to lug around. And for the money and more, this thing is killer!

This unit is one of the easiest i've seen. IT HAS KNOBS!!! It's easy to find the effect you want without having to scroll endlessly. The preset programs are great and its VERY easy to write your own programs. However, the way to bank from one program to the next is a little tricky at first, but is easy to get used to. I took this thing out of the box and immediately had a great sound to listen to. The manual is very brief about pretty much everything, but is straightforward, and most everything is self-explanatory. Editing the effects takes some work, trying to figure out which knobs do what and so on, but the manual covers that well. Also comes with an AC adapter so you don't have to worry about batteries or anything like that.

The effects on this box are awesome. Its got some great distortions to choose from, and they all can be modified to your liking. A few distortions can be a little noisy on my amp (a fender amp), but it has a noise reduction option that takes most, if not all, of that away. I bought this unit because there were various sounds that i wanted (such as echo and flanger and distortions) and i couldnt afford separate stomp boxes. I got all the sounds i wanted out of this, AND MORE!! There are a few kinda weird effects that i know i wouldn't use, but for the most part the effects are great. The U-vibe on it sounds great too. The only drawback is that when you have a pedal effect (wah or talker) on it automatically switches off the modulation effects (the choruses and the phasers, etc.), which is somewhat limiting, but still can get great sounds--IF YOU WANT GREAT SOUNDS AND DON'T WANT TO SPEND A FORTUNE GET THIS EFFECTS BOX!!! This is a great buy...I tried out others such as digitech's RP2000 and RP7, and DOD multieffect boards and they had too much stuff i didn't need, weren't as easy to use, and didn't even sound as good, and the Korg AX1000G was cheaper too.

I play alot of rock, classic rock, and some alternative type music, and the effects and distortions are a great match. This thing could match pretty much any music type in my opinion. ITS VERY VERSATILE. I've been playing 7 years and this is one of the best investments i've made. I also own a couple effects boxes and a Taylor acoustic, and and Ibanex electric, and this is a great addition to my sound. This gives me more versatility with my music, and it seems that I can do alot more with my guitar now. It has so many great features that are a joy to have. The chromatic tuner is great, and the metronome and "phrase trainer" I haven't even used yet. If this was stolen, i would definately go with this one again. I don't think anything would beat it unless you spend ALOT more.

It is extremely easy to use - there are five knobs that you simply turn to get the specific sound. All those freaky sounds that you are never gonna use anyways are cut off. Extremely easy editing - the myth about multi effect boards being hard to use is killed here. The manual is very easy to use too.

I use my stereo for this because there are some really cool stereo effects that don't sound as cool with a normal amp. I use a cheap Ibanez factury guitar, and it sounds really cool. It is not very noisy - in fact there is a noise reduction effect on it that cuts away all the noise from OD effects, although when you set it on 100 there is almost no sustain left. However, the octave pedal effect does not sound very cool - it does not have a natural tone when you octavise it.

I have been playing with the Korg AX1000G for a few months now, and I think it is extremely satisfying. If something should ever happen to it, get stolen or crashed, then I would certainly buy the same one again (unless another better effect board appears). It is definitely worth all the money - you gotta double up the price or triple it before you get anything better.
I love that it is so easy to use, and the sounds are extremely cool, even the OD sounds. There is also a cabinet feature that can copy all sorts of amps and stuff, and you can always modify every effect to make it suit your taste exactly.

The most important thing to remember is: THIS IS NOT A POD! This is the dream effects box. I use a Strat through a Fender HotRod Deluxe, and most of the time that's ALL I use. However, instead of carrying around a box of effects pedals, I can carry this little wonder around. It's got a stage tuner, tremelo, volume, wah, rotovibe, auto-wah, and many echoes, chorus, effects. It's also got several distortion boxes modelled. They all sound good. The main thing to remember is my deluxe is not gonna sound like a boogie or a marshall. In my opinion, none of the modelling boxes can do that. Nothing is gonna sound like a good guitar running through hot tubes and moving air. What makes this contraption so appealing is that it does so many things to modify my sound and gives me control over all the necessary parameters. It will do up to 8 effects at a time, which is overkill for me.

If this thing were stolen, I'd probably replace it. It does a lot of things really well. I compared it to the J-system and the Pod, and decided that for live work, this is the superior product. I do a lot of studio work, but for that I use a guitar and an amp. Let's face it, a $5000 Lexicon is gonna sound better than a $300 stomp box, no matter who made it.

Even though the manual explains the features of the ax1000g in way too short terms, it's no big problem, as you can read your way through almost everything on the board...only except for the sampler and the programming of your own sounds, maybe. But else....I mean - it takes 10 seconds for anyone with a sight that can reach the board, to make it sound just like a single-pedal sound.....great.
Sound Quality

A major drawback of pedalboards with many sounds included, is, that it's all digital, so it just sounds artificial no-matter what you do.
I don't know how Korg did this. But it sounds just like -or even better, than "the real thing" - single-pedal stuff, like those from Boss. At least this is the case of far the most of the sounds!

I must admit, I haven't had it for too long...check it out - it's in metal!!!! No plastic shit like Zoom's products (sorry Zoom, but you just can't build a board for stomping out of tiny plastic!). I mostly play the David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) kind of rock, so I need a great variety of sounds, in order to sound just like that. It works great. Wanna play some slightly distorted blues....I just turn the amp-knob to Top-distortion, and it sounds great too.
It simply can do a lot. Of course it's no 5000-sounds-effects-board.
It's only got real guitar sounds. No weird synth-sounds, and that's maybe what makes it so relatively cheap. And, personally, I dont need to sound like a symphony ochestra, when I play the guitar. I wanna sound like a guitarist.
I've compared it with the famous GT-3 - Korg just blows that off the road. The GT-3 sounds extremely digital compared to Korg.

This unit was a dream come true. I plugged it in, and it worked. Then I had to start editing. At first it was hard to see what effect each knob has, but as they are analog, it is easy to get a feel for them. The manual says very little at all. Most of the stuff you need to know is right on the pedal next to each knob. If you can decipher the cryptic little icon for a metronome, that's on there too. Verdict - easy to get cool sound. Less easy to get the exact sound you want. It gets easier as you gain a feel for it, though.

I am using an Ibanez RG series guitar with a small Marshall Valvestate amp (My money ran out, and I decided to splash out on the pedal rather than the amp). This setup is pretty noisy to begin with (the amp - the guitar is one of the quietest I've heard), but on the clean channel and with the noise gate properly set I can get a perfect noisless sound. (Better than the amp the pedal is supposed to be emulating, I'll bet). One or two of the effects seem pretty lame (the filtron springs to mind). And a few settings are strange at first (like you can't mix out your original tone in the pitch shifter effect - you have to use the pedal activated one). Overall all the sounds sound very full compared to other digital effects I have heard. I succeeded within the first day to perfectly model my amp on the unit, and stuff like Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, Tool (phaser effects and echo), were pretty easy to nail. One gripe is that the chorus effect is easy to set to an 'artificial' sound.

I believe that most of the BAD reviews of these kinds of pedals is either due to a lack of understanding of what MAKES a particular sound, or a lack of patience in creating or editing sounds. You CANNOT just plug these things in, press some buttons, and expect a great sound. In my opinion, the key to GREAT sounds on this pedal are the cabinet models . . . in particular, the 'air' knob. I have used this pedal direct into the PA in a live environment and direct to hard disk recorder . . in both cases, it did a great job.

I play a lot of different stuff. From contemporary rock to old time 50s and 60s stuff. My previous floor fx was a Boss ME5, so this thing had a lot to live up to (for me anyway). One thing was clear straightaway, the sound quality available has improved greatly. I've now used it on two different types of gigs and have been impressed with it. On on gig I used my Fender Strat Plus and the lead sounds just blew away what I used to do with the Boss. On the other gig I used my Gretsch Tennessee Rose. The 50s echo effects were just superb. Once again, better than the Boss. The built-in tuner I love. Most of the effects are very useable and not difficult to set up. Perhaps the parameters for the Echo and Reverb sections could be more flexible but, for a unit of the price, it's hard not to just appreciate it for what it is. I don't like the 9v power supply. I would have preferred the PS to be built-in. Just like my old Boss. Overall, I'm very impressed. For practising at home, recording or playing smallish gigs, then this is a very-hard to beat unit. For larger, Pro gigs I would prefer to use rack-mounted gear that would withstand the rigors of the road. But then we would be talking about considerable investment. I give this Korg an A rating. It would have got A+ if I didn't have to press two pedals together to bank down.

Excellant. That's about the size of it. I've had it for two days, and already I can achieve almost any sound I want. The knobs are a godsend, instead of endless buttons. The LCD display is good for the task. Editing is easy, and the Individual play mode is an excellant addition. By pressing pedal 5 for a couple of seconds, you can then turn on and off a certain patches effects, excellant if you don't want to waste another patch just for the addition of a bit of Flange.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul (Standard), through a Marshall Park G30RCD. The sound quality is very even on this half decent set up. Personally, I found it a bit hard at first to find a good overdrive, because the Cabinet emulators create a 'hollow' sound. But, this can be turned off.
I've read some of these reviews, and they say that the pedal produces hidious hissing noises on certain effects and modulations. I think they haven't discovered the excellant Noise Reduction control, which can be adjusted to remove all background noise if required.
BUT. I found a major drawback that still bugs me. If I want a pedal effect on, it automatically turns off the modulation effects. This means, I can't have a phaser mixed with a Wah effect.
I play a lot of Manic Street Preachers, and so far, I have successfully reproduced one desired effect or another (even that cool phaser bit at the beginning of Tolerate).

This is an excallant effects pedal for mid - rock music (Manics, OCS, Oasis at a push). I don't think it has the uummph for more heavy metal music, but then again it depends on your amp. On a 4x12, it would run as slick as Christmas.
I've been playing for 5 years, and the only other effects pedal I have is a Boss Flanger. The controls on the AX1000G mirror the style of the Boss stomp boxes, and that's what first drew me to it.
Don't expect a GT5, as thats a whole different price tag. Do expect something that'll kick the ass outta your mates Zoom 505, in terms of sound, style, build, interface, U-Vibe effect etc..

Finally, a pedal board with knobs. It allows you to tweak stuff very fast. In fact, I'm getting very lazy about storing effects. The only drawback I see is to put the unit in bypass you have to hold the current patch button down for one second. This makes it a little hard to turn it off during the middle of a performance. As a workaround I make an effect in each bank that basically has no effect. The other drawback is that there is no way to combine say a wah with a flange. It's basic effects structure is Drive>Cabinet Emulator>Modulation or Wah Effect>Reverb or Delay. Even though it has a separate Pedal and Modulation Section, you can only use one at a time. A minor point with the kind of things I play.
Sound Quality
:
9
For a pedalboard this thing is great. It doesn't have that "canned" sound that many boards do. The wah's good, delays are good, the uni-vibe is almost worth the price of the board alone. It has a Muttron effect that is very good if you're into that funky kind of stuff. Octaver has an excellent analog sound to it.
It definitely affects the dry sound. There is no true bypass. It's not noisy. Mostly it dampens the dynamic range a bit. I originally wanted to use it in the pre/power amp loop of my amp, but it really took a lot of quality off the signal. Now I run it before the input of my amp and it is almost transparent (almost). Of course I'm very picky about my clean sound.

Thank god it's not plastic. Seems very solid. I wouldn't need a backup since I don't use that many effects in performance, plus as long as you have some kind of case to transport it in I don't see any problems. I hate having wall warts on the stage, so I rigged up a 2 channel cord. I cut the ends off one channel and spliced in the power supply and connector. To my suprise it works perfectly. So my wall wart sits permanently inside my amp cabinet. The other channel goes into my guitar amp input, so I only have one cord to pull out.

I play American Roots music (folk, blues, country, rock) and this is the only pedal board I've found that can be used for that style. The effects I use are uni-vibe, tremolo, tuner and wah. That's it pretty much. But those effects sound great and were worth the price of the board. A uni-vibe with controller pedal would cost just as much, plus it's more to hook up on stage and doesn't have a built-in tuner.
There are a few things I'd change
1) a tremolo that can be adjusted with the pedal
2) a Leslie simulator (the uni-vibe effect is a simulation of a rotary speaker simulator and it doesn't sound much like a leslie, especially at higher speeds)
3) a real bypass.
I'm very pleased with my purchase. I'd buy one again.

Ive only had it one day and am already experiencing problems with the unit. I play a lot of hard rock/metal and switch from clean to distortion a lot. Well the Korg's pedal response time is NOT instantaneous and in fact I lose a note or two when switching under steady tempo. This can wreck a songs mood live and is really frustrating. I think I am going to return it. Also, the pedals are tiny so if you have big feet like me your going to be doing the pedal dance a lot. I dont like the bank down operation using two pedals either.

The Korg kicks ass in sound quality! The effects are quality and the amp modeling is sweet! This thing has beefy distortions on it and the wah sounds good too. Anything from Metallica to CCR. Too bad it chokes when switching pedals at high speed.

I have two fender guitars, one is the fatboy with trembucker on the bridge and hotrails on the neck. My other guitar is a thinline telecaster fitted with a screamin demon. basically it sounds good if you know how to adjust some of the parameters, also it depends on taste. distortion is cool, cabinets are very useful in creating your own sound, lots of combination in the modulation bank. just be creative.

I'm a Brazilian Bass Player but last year I decided to play guitar too... Well It's my first Effects processor but with my little experience to see and have fun with my guitarrist's effect processor (like Boss GT-5, Zoom 8080, Zoom 505, Digitech RP-12, etc...) I look extreme easily to play with it. The direct-edit on the switches it fabulous ! I just don't put 10 because have some problems... 1. Don't have a bank down button 2. In painel supose to appear the orig effect direct in "indiv" mode, like (for example) turn on the drive and appear the name (to know what is the Original). I have problems to Access the expression pedal for the first time, I think i'm afraid to push with power the pedal (to don't break it). And the Pitch Shifter effect, well, I cant JUST change the pitch (My guitar have a Floyd Rose and to tune in D# it's very problem...) The pitch only change and play with the Original, someone knows how I only change without play the original sound ? (example I play orig. E and the sound out D#) About the manual I think it's need more example. Talking about this, Anyone already knows what about the distorcion and gabinet it's the copy (sorry for my english :) reformulating the question: the distorcion and overdrives in ax-1000 it's a copy from famous amps like Fender, Marshall, etc... Someone made the association ? and can send to me ??!! :) (Remember, I'm a Bass Player and don't have get used to the amp's distorcion) :)

I don't send a message to see the thing about the pitch shifter (how can sound out only the sound changed).

Well People, Please desconsiderate my english errors and try to respond my questions 1. The Pitch Shifter 2. The e-mail list 3. The list of amp related.

Yesterday i tried out an AX1000G, which is Korg's amp-modeling device. I thought the attack, clarity, and the effects were better than the POD, but that the sounds available via the amp models and speaker sims (about 10 each) weren't as diverse. It was nice being able to read the patch names in a LCD screen. The interface was fairly easy to use and offered a lot of options, but the method of moving downward through the patches (pressing two pedal switches at once) was not exactly the most brillant solution i have seen.
I probably would have bought it except for one serious drawback - no midi. As you only have 40 user patches and there is no way to dump them via midi you are severally limited - at least if you are anal retentive. =)

Almost as easy to use as a typical stomp-box setup; WAY easier to use than a row of the 30 or so stomps modeled in the unit would be. I gigged with it for the first time last night, and I found it to be very easy to tweek, or even edit, on the fly, especially since basic EQing is done at the amp. I love the tuner; like most reviewers here I dislike having to push 2 footswitches to bank down (too easy to miss one and bank up); unlike other reviewers I think the pedal switch is fine, though I don't use the tap-tempo feature. Overall it's a very intuitive design, probably as stomp-like as a multiFX could be.

You have to think of this unit as a stomp-box setup as opposed to a multiFX preamp. It's clearly voiced to enhance the tone of a good amp; direct-to-board or through a power amp it's pretty mediocre. I'm using it through a Torres-modified silver-faced Bassman which seems perfect: basic tone from the amp, drive and shimmer from the Korg. I'm particularly happy with the "sweet-spot" tones -- the crunch and blues tones that usually only happen at a certain (loud) volume. I'm not so fussy about the other stuff, but this definitely out-performs the DOD boxes it's replacing.
Otherwise, let's see: wah is fine for a guy like me, who uses it maybe twice a night; uni-vibe sounds just like a Uni-vibe; tremolo is a little flat, but I'm comparing it to Vortex tremolo which is the best in history; acoustic simulation gets damn good with a little EQ work.
The Guitar Player review (January '00) said not to bother trying to record with this; I disagree. Sure, it's not a studio tool, it's not even a POD, but I've gotten it to sound better than my Sansamp or my 2101. For headphone practice or demos it's just fine.

I'd guess that in the $250 price range this thing is the best buy in musical gear today. The complaints I've noted in other reviews (shallow programability, no midi, etc.) would be valid if the price was a hundred or two higher. But hey, it's priced like a toy.
I've been playing since the '70's, and I've had a lot of gear. I took the plunge into the multiFX morass ten years ago and discovered pronto that the last thing you need onstage is an LED menu. My present rig consists of the Korg and the Bassman, and it's not perfect. But it's simple to set up and operate under pressure, and it sounds better with any of my guitars than anything I've used, except maybe my old twin on 9.
Overall, the AX1000 is a superb tool for the serious amateur guitarist, providing inspiring tone in a compact, simple format. Good for Korg.

Very noisy!! I had it for one day and then I turned it back to the shop. I could not get the constant hissing background noise out of this unit. The shop owner told me that it was not a faulty unit, but that is was typical of the AX1000G. Reading the other reviews I am beginning to doubt his opinion. Maybe I'll try one in another shop.
Apart from this hissing sound the effects were OK, I guess.

This is a very easy unit to use, particularly as compared to other, currently produced, multi-effects units. I didn't get a manual with mine, so I had to figure it out on my own. The process of editing patches is very straightforward and intuitive. I give it high scores, a '9' at least, in this area.
The only thing that's a bit tricky is getting the unit into alternative modes, such as the tuner mode or the sampler mode. These moves require holding down a button and waiting a certain amount of time (2-3 seconds) for the unit to switch. Also, there is no bank down button. You have to press two buttons together to go down a bank. This is a bit clumsy at first, but you soon get the hang of it. Activating the tap delay button on the expression pedal is also a clumsy move at first too. In comparison to other units, I'd give it about a '7'.
There are a few limits to its use that you should be aware of. First, you can't change the order of the effects. This limits some experimentation that you might want to try. Also, some of the pedal models take up so much processor power that it disables modulation effects. This also limits some combinations you might want to try, such as combining an octave with a univibe for example. You also can't combine effects from one category, ie, you can't have both flange and pitchshift active at the same time. If you're into such sonic experimentation, you might be better served by a Boss GT-3 or DigiTech RP2000. But if you're like me and want to just play instead of tweak effects, this unit is what you want. On flexibility, I'd give it about a '5'.
Sound Quality

First off, the sound quality of this unit is great, but you have to know what you're getting to appreciated it. It is more of a stompbox modeler than a traditional multi-effects unit. Unlike many such devices, it responds differently to various guitars and amps instead of smoothing out differences and producing a "sonic sameness". The basic tone of your amp and guitar come through on most effect settings, particularly the amp and distortion/overdrive models. The cabinet simulations are pretty well balanced EQ tweaks. This unit is certainly geared toward live performance with an amp. Some reviews have expressed the opinion that the headphone and/or recorded tone isn't that good. I'd say that this unit does sound its best when played through a good tube amp, but that its direct tone isn't shabby at all (adding a touch of ambiance really helps here). It is much better than most units I've heard with only the Line6 POD and perhaps the Boss GT-3 being better.
The modulation effects are also quite good. I'm not a particularly big fan of chorus, flange, or phasers, but they're a lot of fun to play with from time to time. I got the most enjoyment out of the pitch shifter and octave effects, that tracked very well, and the 'Filtron' (ie MuTron) effect for a funky sound.
The pedal effects are interesting. The Vox Wah emulation is quite nice and close to the original. The talk effect is pretty neat sounding. I found the Univibe emulation a bit disappointing, but it wasn't too different than lower cost stompboxes on the market that promise the same. The ring modulator is quite wild sounding. I didn't think the pitch bend tracked as well as the other effects for some reason. It was OK, but not outstanding.
The ambiance effects are fantastic. This is one of the strong points on this unit. The tape echo emulations, the Echoplex and Roland Space Echo style emulations, do a great job of producing anything from rockabilly slapback to spacey 70's style effects. The more digital emulations are great for metal tones. The spring reverb simulation can really get that deep surf effect. You can also select combined echo/reverb settings, although I find this a little too much for my taste.
Overall, you can get great tones out of this unit. However, it won't necessarily help a marginal practice amp sound a lot better. As I said before, it shines best with a good tube amp while most other units in the same price range and lower are designed to work around a cheap amp's limitations. You'll also find that what sounds good with one amp/guitar setup may not sound the same or even good with a different one. If you switch guitars/amps a lot you might find the 40 user setting locations a bit limiting.

As I said, I didn't get a manual for the unit and I couldn't find any customer contact info on their web site, which is definitely a black mark on the company. I think it reflects badly on a company when they don't include such basic information on their site. However, bad web sites among guitar gear companies are so common that good ones are the exception rather than the rule.

The true test of a unit like this is does it replace what you were using or does it either (a) supplement the old setup or (b) do you go back to the old setup. I've had the unit a little over a month now and I haven't been tempted to go back to my old setup yet. The only thing I've carried over from my old setup is my Snarling Dogs VeryTone, which is quite useful in moderating the tone of my LP Jr. My other pedals lie unused in my practice area now.
The main reason I chose this unit was on it's price-to-features-to-tone ratio. The price was about $100 to $300+ under other devices like the POD, GT-3, etc. It has good and easy user interface so I wouldn't have to deal with a lot of tweaking and so forth. And it's tone was quite good, particularly as a pedal simulator.
I suspect that I will eventually replace this unit with new technology sometime in the future. Things like this always change. However, for now, I'm quite pleased with it. Note that my overall rating would be 8 or 9 if the Korg website was more helpful.

At present, I'm a bit disappointed in Korg. I had big hopes for this box... "modeling" hype, knobs and realtime parameter control, etc etc etc... but it really fails to deliver for me. See, I love my cheesy little AX1G-- a great deal at a hundred bucks. Imagine my surprise when, upon trying out the AX1000G, I found that many of the sounds I'd hope to see expanded upon or improved were EXACTLY THE SAME as in its plastic brethren. Where's the modeling? Not in the effects, that's for damn certain... unless they were modeling the AX1G.
Actually, this isn't entirely fair. A few sounds exist here that we of the Cult of the 1G haven't had access to before. Like, for example, distortion... and real cabinet modeling... but, come on. Everyone who's been playing for more than a coupla months knows that you DON'T buy these sorts of things for their distortion patches. Out of the 11 or so distortion patches available on the 1000G, only two or three fail to make me laugh and/or retch. I suppose that's a better track record than most of its competition, but I'm still 95% more likely to use a stompbox or the amp crunch channel.
That said, I like the basic sounds found elsewhere in the box. The wah is not thick and pukey enough; "Vox Wah" is only applicable since Korg owns the Vox name these days. The worst Crybabies could kick the 1000G's ass in this regard. No parameter adjustments are provided on the wah, which is also a massive disappointment. The pitch bend and whammy are just about as cheesy and cheapo as the 1G's-- this is cute in a $100 plastic box, but NOT so in a device three times the price-- they could've done MUCH better.
Phasers, choruses, and whatnot all sound good, and the filters are pretty nice as well-- some real speaker-shredding possibilities. The tape echo is passable and flexible, and the delay is, well, delay-- they give you plenty of it, and the sample/play is eminently useful. (Still, you'd think they'd take a clue from the prices on secondhand SDD3000s and put a little more flexible modulation onboard-- what I wouldn't do for a $200 reissue of that unit.)
But where's the damn beef? Korg really screwed up when they gave this thing the same limitation as the AX1G-- you can't assign the treadle to a "modulation" patch and have the mod bank operating at the same time. What a screamin' oversight. It's the main reason why I can't bring myself to buy this unit after hours of in-store trial-- I can't believe they're so stingy with the CPU in this thing. Sure, I'm a guy who likes freaky sounds, but I would think even the average player would be massively put off by not being able to use, say, chorus and wah simultaneously. It makes it much harder to justify the purchase as a replacement for all my stompboxes, even though it does sound just as good as many of them.
The interaction between this pedal and amp should also be noted-- while I haven't played it through a picky old Fender, it seems to be more transparent to the guitar-amp interaction than other boxes of its ilk. I always felt fairly removed from my amp when playing through the 1G (or other, more expensive units from competing manufacturers); that feeling, while not entirely absent, is much less obvious with the 1000G. I've brought in a couple of my amps and my axe to the shop to verify that I'm not imagining this, and it really is much less sterile than most other multi-fx I've tried (including older Korg units).
Still, if you're a player with tons of stompboxes and are just looking for fun, I think you and your wallet might be happier checking out the AX1G. It's not really a serious purchase, and there are a LOT of similarities between the two boxes.

Korg, come on now... you've been doing amazing things the last few years. You offered so much promise with this box, and failed to deliver. Turn your efforts now to a PROFESSIONAL box... make a monster version of the 1000G, with better effects, and give us flexible routing AND the ability to use-- gasp-- more than one of the "same type" of effect! (While you're at it, put in an SDD3000 model, wouldya?) We're counting on you.
