Easy as piss to get a usable sound, the chicken knobs are easily accessed and turned to get any sound you want, you dont even have to edit them much.
Has good cabs and distortions and 2 different settins can be saved for every patch, what a great feature.
Editing is the usual parameter scrolls etc, easy enough
The manual is good enough as this unit is simple, any extra ******** would just confuse everyone...
It has a jam along/learn a riff setting[choose either 8 or 15 sec],best thing on it!
I've seen other units double the price three times the features that dont have this, what a waste of money to buy them,Manufactures TAKE NOTE!
Has an 8 sec Hold and play function...good fun,can keep you busy for ages.
Also has an 8 sec delay hold..similar to above.
These features alone deserves you to pick one of these up off ebay or your mate.
Plenty of other effects to try out and make some noise...LOL
No firmware for this unit, just plug and play...analog distortions rule.

I use an Ibanez RG770>Carlsbro GLX85 combo with an extension 4x12" cab.
I've used a Tech 21 GT2 in front of the unit and works awesome as well, just too lazy to plug it in as its fine as is,just plug and play.
No noise whatsoever, cheap guitars would be different though, get yourself a decent axe.
I only have the Carlsbro amp left,I dont need anything extra nowdays as I dont play live anymore.
I didnt get a good sound direct into a multitrack recorder on the presets, and was too lazy to dial up a few new ones as I have other multi effects that have my usual sounds,so wont bother tweaking just yet.
I can get any sounds I want with this..just too lazy to copy anyone else
all distortions here do the job and do it well...thats why im a bit too lazy too copy and tweak longer than a minute or so...i'd rather just jam instead..nuff said!

Built like a tank, solid metal case, can be dropped off a stage or used as a weapon to defend yourself..no probs.
Sure id use it at a gig without a backup, theres always a few bands on and can borrow a fuzz box of any other dudes...saves me bringing all my gear along.

no need,as unit was second hand, cheap enough to buy another if I couldn't fix it if I attempted to.Thats the beauty of second hand stuff,no fear of opening the back and sticking a screwdriver in there..LOL

Im a seasoned Metalhead...with years of experience....dating back to the old Sabbath,Deep Purple and Uriah Heep days..Nuf Said!
If it were stolen,if I could find another as cheap as I got this,i'd get it.
I have heaps of effects and multitrackers which Im slowly getting rid of,whats left in my cupboard will be the essential stuff, like this unit to plat around on.
fav feature would be the learn a riff functions, hands down...nothing better than laying down a 10 sec riff and then just playing lead over it for hours on end...if that doesnt improve your skills on an axe, then look for another hobby.
So everyone go get a good used unit off ebay or something..you'll thank me for it.

As you read the reviews there's some negative comments. I do agree that it's quite hard to scroll down with both switches - almost impossible. The unit has no bypass which would of been nice. The Wah-wah is a Vox clone and works fine - just get used to the pedal - it's not going to be as good as a stand alone Wah which you can use before the board. I didn't notice any delay when turning the pedals on/off.
The positives: you can get a used unit in good condition very cheap now, very well built, plenty of effects with editing, you can use the board in "individual" mode - like a standard pedal board with distortion, modulation, delay, and pedal.(Bypass here would be with no pedals on.) For recording, you got cabinet simulators and all the effects and line out. Headphone out. And, you got some killer presets!!!

I bought it second hand (practically new) and haven't used it that much so can't really say.It is very well built with a solid metal casing and has a decent, reassuring weight to it.
If you were to drop it off the edge of a rocky cliff you'd end up with a lot of rubble at the bottom!!!
The plastic 'chicken head' nobs are probably quite bittle so could break off if clipped by something or if the unit is dropped face side down.If this does happen then replacements are very cheap and you don't really need them anyway because theres the metal knob underneath them anyway.
Apparently Korg's power supply/adaptors are rubbish and pack up even if you look after them? If this does occur i'll simply buy a different replacement so this shouldn't be a problem if it does break.

Hmmm, a bit of history...I don't really use effects, I bought a ax1 ? second hand for about ??30, really just for a bit of phaser, and compression. Then something happened which I will describe later...It is very easy to edit and set up sounds, and If you apply logic you can access settings very easily for seemless changes....manual is ok,... only area I struggled with initially was the relative volume of the individual patches....and how they sit in a live mix

Ha... I am a one man band playing to backing tracks, through a JBL eon Pa, my "live" guitars are bog standard Gibson Flying V '67, Gibson Les Paul Junior, Fender Joe Strummer Tele, Fender mexican strat, and for a while an Takamine EN20 electro acoustic...through a marshall dual super lead...I used an AX1 for odd bits of colour, and one night my marshall jacked during a gig, valves started frying...I whipped the ax1 into the desk, and was really pleased at the sound... Then went to sound control, and fiddled about with all the boss, vox, dod, zoom, line 6 etc...I decided to junk the marshall, and the takamine, and bought the ax1500 for ??99, an absolute steal...Through the pa, in stereo, I get some great sounds that sit really well in the mix...strange thing is, If I am trying to dial in a "Kaiser Chiefs...Ruby Ruby" type sound, the starting point was "sabbaf"...and my best Paul weller/Jam going underground, sound comes from the V, through a "british stack" with cocked wah.....not a jangly overdriven vox... trust your ears ! My long standing audience who know about my pernickityness ( why else do I carry a bundle of guitars around ?) often commment on how good the guitars are sounding....and thats the important bit ! ...you should hear my "Angus"... I get a great appromimation with the bridge P90 pickup on the junior... sometimes these things seem "wrong", but sound fantastic !

I have got in a few tizzes...I used the "One" patch, for a U2 "syrup" of univibe, echo, etc and somehow I managed to get ****** over with the user/default settings when returning to more staple sounds....logic and sequentiality can sometimes go out of the window at one of my shows...I don't carry a backup anymore, but I may just start to pack my little vox brian may thing...more out of paranoia from writing this...I can do about 8-10 gigs per month and have never have any major problems...

This unit really changed my life ! and brought me up to date, I was really old school with just my clean/crunch/dirty amp, and the odd bit of phaser / delay, and using different guitars/pickups to generate tones...now ALL my sounds are generated from the korg, although I still rely on the guitars to brainwash me from a feel point of view......I did a big gig with a function band recently, and took my marshall, but ended up going straight into the pa...After 30 years gigging at different levels , The silent tuning facility , simple operation, and ability to read the names of the patches I write make performing a doddle...To be fair, I wouldn't use it for recording If/when it dies, nobody would steal it...they usually whip an SM58 ! I would do an afternoons research and probably look on ebay to see If I could get one cheaper ! I would not buy a ??300 - ??400 unit...I'd buy another guitar ! A PRS SE in Camoflage....eek !

Very easy to use. I prefer the setup over the Boss Multi effects units that I have or have had. Manual was OK, but really not necessary if you've ever dealt with any multi effects. Editing is quite easy. I bought this over the AX3000G specifically because I did not want a huge unit and I didn't want a computer interface. I prefer having my guitar and effects and amp away from the computer, no need for these hookups!

I don't try to specifically copy any artists, but I love the sounds I have been able to dial in on this unit. I currently have a Boss Br-50 and prefer the sound and set up of this one better. I use various guitars, usually humbuckers through a Peavey prowler tube amp. I think the wah sounds better than the Boss and better than the new Cry Baby's. Some older ones sound better for sure though. I get distortion that I like, just takes some subtle tweaking.Other effects all sound very good.

It definately makes me sound better...of course most people over use effects just because they are there. i have learned to not over use any effects and sound much better because of it. Nice work Korg...that's all I can say. I have been playing almost 40 years and have owned everything. i know good sound and ZI know good gear. this is good stuff.

One you have had a quick look at the manual its pretty easy to get to grips with. Patch selectors are quite easy to use too, although a tendancy to jump to 'B Channel' when channel patch number is annoying. Fix this by selecting channel 'A' and pressing 'write' to re-write the setting on any effect causing this problem.
Sound Quality
:

The sound quality is actually quite good through my little Marshall combo, and even better on my Peavey PA rig. My particular unit fizzes with that horrific short circuit noise every few minutes, but that aside its relatively noise free.
The effects are quite good, but do lean toward distortion and delay quite heavily. I use a lot of clean sounds, and some subtle reverb/delay (think early Beatles) so it was a little disappointing to have so many 'heavier' effects, although the cab modelling is very good.

I think I can rely on my AX-1500, and do for gigs, although I also carry my little 'Zoom Unit' in case of emergency. Like all music gear, it's better to take it and not need it, than need it and not have it with you! The Ax-1500G is quite rugged and well made, although the rotary knobs on the effects selectors wouldn't stand for being trodden on more than once.

I play old style rock and roll mainly, although I'm not above throwing other stuff in last minute, snow patrol, Oasis, Verve - whatever I'm asked for within reason.
I've been playing well over 20 years, and have my own Peavey PA rig. I use a small Marshall combo at home and for recording. I have a couple of backup Amps (an old 'trucker' and another Peavey) I play a Fender Strat, a Yamaha Accoustic and my favourite guitar is my Epiphone Sheraton II, a really gorgeous (if a little heavy) piece of kit.
If I were to 'lose' my Ax-1500, would I buy another? I think I'd go for the next model up, with pedal indicators and more features. It's silly to get used to one kind of piece of floor kit, only to change if happy with it, and if you aren't happy why did you buy it. Music kit is horses for courses. You don't need the most expensive, coolest, etc. Go for what suits you and your style, not for what you think you 'have to' get. I personally like the Ax-1500, but as I have said, if I had my time again, I'd go up to the AX-3000G, but again, buy what you can afford and feels good for you. I got a good deal on mine, so I can't complain about the price.

This pedal is easy to use. However, it could be more useable. What do I mean by that? Well, in terms of understanding how to use it, it's fairly intuitive and once you get the hang of the different modes for editing selecting and tweaking on-the-fly you won't find yourself referring to the manual again. Unless of course you want to sell it on and need to find where you put the thing! In practise, however, useage can be frustrating. Having to stomp multiple buttons at once and often having to bend down to press the smaller keys is a drawback. The real let down, however, is the complete lack of any PC interface which in comparison with the competition is a serious handicap to its usefulness and useability.

Let's not beat around the bush, this unit is cheap and this cheapness shows in the areas where you would expect it to. While it's pretty good for high gain distortion, clean sounds can be nice and smooth if you know what you're doing setting it up and I was able to get a pretty good approximation of the U2 sound with it - it just doesn't cut the mustard when it comes to more subtle effects. The tonal depth of professional effects is just not here. All in all, it's pretty good at the things it does well but as a multi effects unit it raises questions. Were the AX1500G a delay/distortion pedal I'd give it a higher rating. However, it professes to be much more and 70% of the available sounds let it down. The pedal is particularly dissappointing as one must choose between a very narrow range of values, or sacrifice precision for range. Plugged into anything but the highest quality sound card, it's hopelessly noisy for PC recording. For reference, I use it with a Fender Strat directly into the PA.

This pedal has served me well. My band plays all kinds of music and it has been very useful to have something versatile. I am very happy with the delay effects I can get with this pedal and have spent considerable time refining a range of U2 patches. Although I intend to replace it in general useage with a POD XT Live I will definitely be keeping hold of this pedal for those sounds, at least until I can get better out of the Line 6 pedal. The biggest drawbacks are - poor modulation effects, very disappointing wah/volume pedal, restrictive delay range, fiddly editing, having to press two buttons at once to cycle down one bank and plastic knobs (the top row of which are downright ugly)

The AX1500G is maybe one of the easiest multi-effect pedals to use. Everything is under your total control and the knobs eliminate the presence of menu stuff, wnich makes editing patches very easy. The manual is not great but it's useful to read.

I use Ibanez RG550EX with D-Sonic and Breed DiMarzio pickups through a Crate GX60 amp and sometimes direct to the PA. Some good sounds can be got out of this unit by careful tweaking. I like some of the amp models as Seattle, Classic Distortion and Brit Stack. The Big Fuzz and Metal Distortion are OK, but I really hate the Tube OD and the Classic Compressor. The acoustic simulator sounds fine but it has this disgusting hiss sound. However, the choice of cabinet simulations adds much to the features of the unit. Most of the modulation effects are OK, but I believe the chorus needs to get deeper. I really hate the Wah and the Pitch Bend, but the U-Vibe sounds cool. This thing can get really noisy with high gain setups and poor or unstable electricity, and the noise reduction is the worst ever as you can reach the point of no sustain at all. Anyway, I don't think this pedal gives the sound I'm looking for.

You can depend on this thing as long as it is supplied by a stable electric current. I've owned this for about 3 years of continuous gigging without any backup. It is made of metal and is sturdy enough. Since its original adapter was blown in one of the gigs, I've been facing constant electrical problems with other adapters, which make the unit go nuts and the pedal effects are selected randomly by itself!

I mainly play Rock, Blues and some Metal. I believe the AX1500G can really be useful in the Metal genre because it has a very good high gain material and has better sounding high gain amp models than any of the BOSS, Zoom and Digitech pedals I've owned. However, I don't believe this unit to be natural sounding for me, and that's why it's gonna take a rest soon. It lacks the warmth and the feel I need, and also the versatility. I've been playing for 7 years and eversince I've been working hard to get the sound that would please my ears and unveils my techneques. If you are a metalhead, you should probably give this a try because it would also be worth the money.

I think Korg made the easiest way to write programs in a multieffect. First when I got it, I tried to figure it out just by myself. Then 2 days passed, and I looked in the manual, and saw, I left out nearly nothing. Everything is written on it. And the manual is great too. Easy to understand, or get around in it. If you want to try out sound processors for the first time, this is the ideal stuff for you! But there's a weak spot in it's construction. The foot buttons can't pushed down enough. You can't be sure if you pushed it down. Or sometimes, it pushes itself twice. And it's a big problem at the chanel select button. But it's not a problem, when you use it at home. Only it could be a problem at live shows.

Well I never tried to copy a certan artist. I just wanted to make my own sound. And this stuff nearly got it! I'm using it for at least 5 years, and I never got bored to its sound! The distorsion effects are amaizing! The difference between them is not just the ammount of distorsion. Every distorsion have a different dinamics. If you want brutal fore, you can get out from it! If you want real soft windlike distorsion, it got it all! The effects are amaizing too. Only the wha effect is a bit weak for me. Its only a static wha effect, you can't change anything. (that's why only 9). And of course it's amaizingly silent!

I play mostly metal, and this stuff suits it well. As I sad it before, it has a huge ammount of power in it! I'm using this for at least 5 years, and I'll never sell it! I love it's sound, I love how easy to write programs. But it's biggest disadvantage is the foot buttons. Their position is great, not too close and not too far, but you can't be sure, without watching, that you pushed a button or not. Without a shoe, it's not that big problem, but in shoe, it is! Or it wouldn't be that big problem, if it would have a midi port. But it doesen't. If it's lost, I'd definetly buy another one. It's still perfect for home practice.
The best thing I like in this stuff, is its practice mode. You can record 8 or 16 sec in it, form it's aux in or from your guitar (by playing something) than you can play it back as many times you'd like. And you can slow it down without making it sound deeper. Or you can hold a note, so you can search it on your guitar. It's very usefull, when you try to tab down a fast solo, or some harmonic stuff.

AX1500G's pretty easy to use... It's easy to edit patches and save them as your own... The manual was very comprehensible. The only thing I don't like with this unit is that it doesn't have a seperate "Bank Down" footswitch. You have to simultaneously step on footswitches 2 and 3.

I like some of its distortions and amp models specially the Britstack. Somehow, you can emulate sound of Dimebag, Satriani, Vai, Petrucci, and most punk rock style of playing by carefully and patiently creating patches from scratch. I like the Vulgar patch which I believe emulates Dimebag's sound. I hate its Acoustic simulator coz it has a hisssss on it... One bad thing about AX1500G is it's noisy when using patches with distortion... this is very annoying... even setting the noise reduction to 9 or 10 does not eliminate the noise... And when you set NR to 10, there's no more sustain on notes you play... My rating for Sound Quality could have been 9... if only there's no noise... tsk tsk... I'm kinda dissapointed. Zoom's got a superb NR... without affecting sustain of notes you play.

Pretty simple to use, just takes time to figure out what you want. I tried using the presets, but then just started from scratch.. That's the best way to get what you want. Like many effects, its built for what I call the 16 year old with issues. I wish they would put a memory for the knobs, it is best if you keep a record of the settings you invent, because when you invent a second one you move the knobs and forget where you were if you want to edit the first setup.

Of course this depends on what your looking for. I found the compressor and the delays to work well but didn't like any of the distortions. Amp and Speaker moduling were good and some light octive works well. Heavy reverb did a good job but the phasers took a lot of tweaking for each song (I guess that's standard) to be usable.

I did use the manual when I first got this pedal ( about 4 years ago ) and it didn't take long to suss out how to edit a patch. The pre-loaded patches were okay as a starting point, although some were just too weird for me to find a use for, but I guess that's pretty standard for a multi-fx. I enjoyed fiddling with it and came up with about a dozen patches that gave me the sort of sounds I was looking for, and found a few that I wasn't looking for but liked them anyway. Once I'd got the sounds I wanted I tended to stick with them, on an "if it's not broken, don't try to fix it" basis

Set-upwise I'm using a Patrick Eggle Berlin and a Marshall 30 watt tranny comb amp ( I only play at home these days and it's plenty loud enough for that ) Over time, I found good combinations of tone and effects with this set-up, the Korg does have some nice amp and cab modelling that sounded great ( to my ears ) through my little combo. I could get plenty of large venue sounds that often made me grin from ear to ear.

Now, this is why I'm writing this review. The unit has, over the last 3-4 months slowly been dying on me, it started with the level control developing a mind of it's own and once a patch was selected at some random point in time ( from straight away to minutes later ) the volume would change to wherever the level dial pointer was which either sent the volume up sky high or down low, which I adapted to here at home, it was inconvenient, but not the end of the world, but if it had happened while gigging ( which I've done plenty of in my time ) the unit would have gone in the nearest wheelie bin on the way out the venue. Once the level parameter started to go haywire, the other dial controlled parameters started to do the same and this worsened to the point a couple of days ago where the unit went totally silent. I've taken it apart and there are no visible signs of anything lose or burnt out etc, so it's going to go in MY wheelie bin now. It's lasted me over 4 years, so I'm not complaining and the fact that it's died will mean I can go scour ebay for something else to play with. Up until the recent problems, I would have said yes I could depend on it, but now I'm not so sure?

I am a twiddler these days, I tend not to play whole tracks, just one thing that merges into another etc etc, and some days I'm shit-hot and others I'm just shit LOL. I have had a lot of fun with this unit, it has really made me smile, and considering I bought it new 4+ years ago for #200 it has been excellent value for money I think. If it had been lost or stolen I would have bought another ( used on ebay ). One thing I wish it had but it doesn't is a "slow attack" cos I really like that sort of violinlike sound. That's it's only fault to my mind, apart from the stuff mentioned above.
IHMO, if you want a multi-fx to have fun at home, and help you to sound and feel like the mutts nuts, then go get one of these things used, 'cos you aren't going to get much better bang for your buck I don't think!!!

Hi... My name is Fani and i come from indonesia. I bought korg AX1500g just two weeks ago. Basically i play rock music, but play visual rock from japan recently. this effect is very easy to use.
for you who often use a stomp box it's not different, but it kind of confusing in the first time you use it. But once you know the trick than it become so easy. Editing the patches never been easier, just turn some knobs to your desire and you get what you want. it really easy to have a great sound. I have it just two weeks ago, and now i have a lot of great sounds. I never use the manual eventhought i have one.

I use Ibanez PGM3 korean made, and Peavey Rage 158. Btw i bought this to replace my Zoom GFX 707 which i think it's not good enough for me.
The sound mmmmmmm......
Mostly all effect are good, only the wah pedal, Iit's sucks to hell. I can't change the the deep and Resonance. maybe i prefer my zoom gfx 707 for wah pedal, but if other effectcs i prefer this.
The distortion is awesome, i can get from bluesy overdrive to Metal Distortion. This things rocks.
I can get the sound from Led Zeppelin,Yngwie Malmsteen,CC.Deville, Metallica, doremidan,Lareine,Gazzette,Dir en grey(this are visual kei band from japan)and cool clean jazz too.
so from Jazz, pop,Visual Rock to metal madness. There's no sound that i can't find with this thing. But i still want to have stomb box effects for collections. But this thing rocks. So if you want to buy multi effect processor buy this, you won't regret it. Btw i'm a songwriter and i use it for making music on my computer. I use cubase for recording. I use this effect directly to my soundcard input and it doesn't noisy at all. But you have to manage the noise reduction. and i almost forgot one thing, the electricity in my neighbourhood is bad, so the sound sometimes changing, i mean the level sometimes become bigger and low eventhough you have save it. If you have this problem my suggestion is that you use a stabilizer or power suplly to stabilize the electricity.

I bought this effect just two weeks ago. Basically I play Rock music, but this several months i play visual rock, a genre of rock which come from japan, with band such as: Dir en grey, Lareine,Gazzette, Kagerou, Barouqe, Due le quartz, Doremidan, Malice Mizer, etc. And with this effect i kind of have the similiar sound like them even though it's not perfect. And i kind of play some jazz recently and some Rock'n Roll/Blues. This effect really helps me to get the sound that i want, especially the distortion, not like my Zoom GFX 707 the distortion is really not my taste. If it were stolen maybe i buy it again, or buy the new one AX3000G. Or i use stomb box instead. but even though i have stomb box effects, this effect is a must have item. so i would buy it again if it were stolen. I never use boss GT-8, or POD XT live so i don't know which is the best between them, but what i do know this effect is good. and it really help me to make great music. I wish it had a better wah pedal in the future.

First sight it was a great piece stored with music which i have been waiting for. I have been using Zoom505 and Ibanez pedals, but this one gives me the clean sounds i am looking for. The knobs are very friendly and easy to use. Editing is so easy even without the manual. Well..I see that the pedal makes even the cheapest guitars sounds great and maybe that is the secret behind toneworks. Well I think the best amps will surely bring out the best in it. I even use it indoors with headphones on and it is fantastic as it is mesmerising. Behringer equipment is what I use and Korg is forcing me to think of getting a Fender and Marshall so that they can marry well. The sounds of Joe sat, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica and what not..all it requires is search and find. All effects are ok except for the Wah Wah..needs a little more talking and not just be stuck with Vowel sounds...

I have been playing for 12 years ..my own style of music mixed with rock, heavy metal etc., especially composing instrumental stuff..and I like the effects pedal as the sounds are much cleaner than the ones I used before. hmm...well I see to it that it is not stolen..afterall my neighbours dont like the noise I make along with my drummer, Olos Gora and if at all it is stolen, I know where to search. I love the way we can play electric effects and then shift to acoustic.
I dont hate anything in it, but do suggest improvement in Wah Wah..I have done "cash in pocket and sound in ear" equation and found that 1500 G gives me the best I can afford and satisfy me the most. It gives me a good pat on the back to go all frets!!!! Great work guys..all the best in 2006 for you to bring out the best of sounds..

compared to a GT8 itz very easy and intuitive...you don't have to read the manual necesarily to fully understand it...same thing for editing patches, the only weak point it has is the distorsion...it is not a procesor recomended for those who want to get a heavy-dirty sound.

i use an ibanez sz with duncan pickups and, at home with a tiny 15watts behringer amp, at rehearsals on a 100w TSL Marshall, and it sounds great, noise gates are really good, and it has a really warm nice sound...distorsion is harder to edit...you can't get a metal-sound with it...you rather use it for softer distorsions, or for clean sounds and weird effects, which sound great and are easy to obtain and use

No question about it, it's impossible to go wrong with this. The buttons on each group of settings let you choose what groups you want enabled (distortion/amp model, speaker model, echo, etc), the chickenhead selectors let you pick something from that group, and then the settings knobs let you set it up. I didn't even read the manual until a couple of days afterwards.
Sound Quality

The effects are *nearly* all good. The only dodgy bit is the wah. There are two wahs, and neither is much good, plus the better of the two (the Vox wah) doesn't let you change any settings. Dodgy wahs are pretty much universal on multi-FX pedals, unfortunately, but this stops it getting 10/10. Otherwise it's perfect - plenty of variety on sounds from clean to light OD up to several crunchy distortion settings, and various other stuff too. I use it for everything, from clean+echo acoustic guitar (mostly for the echo and EQ), through Mark Knopfler-style crisp OD, up to max fuzz for ZZ Top. Guitar is a cheapo Squier Fat Strat piece of crap, but it still sounds good through this. Pickups can be noisy, but the FX box has a noise reduction circuit which works like a dream. The box itself doesn't add any noise. One thing to note though is that you *must* plug the guitar straight into the FX box - it really doesn't like being put in the FX loop. Me, I just do that and plug the output into the clean input on the amp, and job done. Forget the preamp in the amp - all you need are a set of heavy-duty speakers to add to this.
Reliability
:

The FX box itself is built like a tank, so no worries there. The wall-wart PSU that comes with it doesn't feel very resilient though, so you're better getting an Argos DC adaptor instead (and keeping the standard one as a backup). That's par for the course for any electronics though, so I'm not going to mark it down for that.

Gotta be a 10 overall. It's a wonderful bit of kit, and I'd be lost without it. A decent wah would be nice, but I can live without it (I don't use it much anyway). And it was cheap as well - why spend #300 on a Boss when you can get this? If it went walkies, I'd definitely get another one, and I've been recommending it to everyone I know.

It's easy to use - One thing I like about this unit is that you can manipulate the effects on the go! I find it straight forward - a couple of presses and the patch is saved! Great for reheasal in a band - you can edit while you are still playing! Get to the gig and it's what you reheased!
I find going between patches a bit of a pain - The feel of the foot switches are a bit lame,
Never looked at the manual - maybe I should!
Sound Quality

I am using the pedal these days for purly an effects processer - It's generally only for a verse here or a chorus there. I have slowly got more stomps which I like using more and more.
I really don't like how this unit seems to suck tone! I find that not only do you need to run this unit though an effects loop in the amp (I use a jcm 900) and slightly boost the volume in the loop, but I also think the unit works best with a effect loop pedal. You get a milli second of nothing between switching patches which is a pain in the bum. I find this is especially true when you are going into a rock'n section and the pedal - by how it opperates, the pedal does not allow for smooth transitions.
In saying that - you can fix the problem generally with a effects loop. You get your patch ready - turn on the loop, turn off the loop and everyone is happy! This only works if you go beween the toneworks to no tone works - not beween patches (this is obvious!).
I find some of the effect weak - the flanger is a little lame - as are most of the amp and cab emulatons - my tip: Don't be a tight arse - get a good amp, cab and guitar - then you don't need to emulate!
I find the tone works-good for an effect - if that is what you want then good! It's cheep and nasty - but hay if it gets the job done - who really cares.

I am recently having hassels with the 9 volt plug on the back of the unit. Sometimes when I jump around on stage and pump it - the pedal resets! I have had the tone works for a while and it has been worked solidly so I don't see it as a problem to worry about - esspecially because I operate it though a loop. I'll get around to fixing it soon enough!
I have quite a few pedals on the board so if this thing was to blow up mid gig - I would be able to cope! Is dependable enough.

With any emulators - don't think you have solved all your problems and that you are going to sound as good as the real deal! You won't. The benefit of this unit is that it is cheep - nasty and you can get some good sounds out of it quickly! If you are not a professional musician - you really don't need to purchase anything more expensive.
This was one of the first guitar items I bought and my rig has evolved around it! The way I use the processor has significantly changed - but I (surprisingly) still use it!

I use Epihone LP Standard, Epiphone LP Classic, Epiphone SG Tony Iommi, Ibanez S470 and a Fender Strat into a JJLabs (swedish brand) solid state 100W amp with 4x12" spkr. Works well, not too much noise.
Tring to get the effects to sound like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Metallica and also a lot of blues stuff.
Comes quite close I think, but has so far not saved any of them.
Dist/OD very good sounds. Speaker sim - I stopped using it, maybe useful in the studio ?
Almost all other effects sounds pretty good (phaser, flanger, tremolo, univibe, octaver, pitchbender, etc. etc. Echo/delay/reverb is also quite good. Wah-wha/talker, well, not the best !
Using a Dunlop Crybaby together with it instead of the KORGS wha-wha. Mostly use the pedal as volyme instead.

I use an Italia Modena into a Laney TF-700.
The sound quality is basically good, although with some tweeeeeeking of the presets (or starting them from scratch) you can get some excellent noises out of this pedal.
The amp modelling is pretty standard, but as other people have said the reverb/delay/phaser effects are particularly cool. I've managed to get some absolutely VAST and atmospheric sounds out of this pedal; a very good impression of my Wilkinson Copycat is possible if the correct settings are dialled-in.

I've dropped this pedal out of a moving van and it's still not given up yet!
The cheapo rubber dials do like to come off a lot recently, and the expression pedal is completely slack now, but it's had a fair amount of abuse over the last few years, so I don't judge it too harshly.

Rugged enough for gigging, but refined enough to take to the studio too.
It's only fault is the tiny screen (pet hate) and the general tackiness of the unit, which make people think you've got a cheap piece of rubbish at your feet... which is good, because no one's (yet) tried to steal it!

While the Wah is weak, it is exceptional in most settings. STONE and BEETLE are great for immulating (you guessed it!) The manual really isn't that great but who needs it? If anything the inadequacy of the manual encourages you to get hands-on and the fact that you can't accidentally overwrite the presets is also encouraging to someone who's never owned a multi-effects unit before. When you get to grips with it you'll find that actually everything you need to know is either written on the case, or displayed on the LCD display. It won't be long before you're fiddling knobs like a pro.

Before I bought this Korg I had a Fender Strat going through a big muff pi, a delux memory man (both E-H pedals) and a crybaby wah (although not in that order!) When having to eati and pay rent came between me and my guitar playing, all those pedals went. Later on when I had a bit of cash again, I decided to go with the Korg, largely for it being a LOT cheaper than replacing my old single effect pedals but mainly because of the amp modelling. I use it though any amp I can find now, which is great because it means I don't have to lug my Marshall combo around everytime I want to take my tone to another venue. I was hugely surprised to discover that I can get very close indeed to the U2 sound I had with my old set up, despite the fact that the delay can't quite be set to the right speed (who cares, it's close enough and who wants to sound EXACTLY like the album versions when live??) When I play through headphones or my PC's soundcard, there is a bit of noise but I can't hold this against the Korg. Going through any good quality amp (providing you don't have the levels on the actual patch set up stupidly!!) there is no noise whatsoever.... Unless you want it there!

I play in a church band so I need the whole range, crunchy overdrives, lead tones, mellow modulation effects LOTS AND LOTS OF DELAY, reverb and ambient sounds. This pedal delivers it all. Even the really heavy stuff that I sometimes use. Being able to easily switch between settings that would have taken a lot of fiddling with knobs with my old analog setup is so liberating that I find myself looking for something to do in the seconds between songs! The only thing I would ever replace this pedal with is a Line 6 pod XT live but those are about 5 times more expensive. I'll admit that the XT live knocks the stuffing out of my little Korg but then at 500 quid it bloody well should!

Sound quality on this thing is great. It's nothing compared to analog effects, but it's impressively close. The wah could be much better. It changes more on one half of the movement than the other. It would be much better, also, if there were more stereo effects on it. Past Toneworks models have had a variety of different types of stereo effects (like a stereo trem), but this one seems to be limited to stereo ambience and stereo chorus.
Amp cab simulators are excellent, too. So much so that I never use an amp, and just plug directly into the sound system (or into my track recorder, if I'm recording.)

I play several styles of music, and this processor has been suitable for all of them. I've managed to get a variety of sounds, from low-end ambient sounds to nice crunchy 80's-style distortion to blues and funk. One thing I don't like is that you can't specify the order of the effects. If I want a delay or echo *before* distortion, I'll have to have something connected between my guitar and the processor. Other than that, I'm quite pleased with it.

Have had this unit and played with it for about 4 hours. The manual is of no help. Still haven't saved a new effect or bank. Terminology not explained. I have had a lot of effects, drum machines etc... this is rated about a 2 out of a 10 in user friendliness. The sounds are great. To create and organize a range of useable effects to utilize in a "jam" has, so far, been way too difficult with the sub par manual. Extremely frustrating to create or modify, edit, change and store desired effects with the provided information. Paid $199 New U.S. Manual may have originated in a different language and has been translated poorly. Manual is 23 pages should have been double that being a lot more explanatory. I have over 20 years of experience with this sort of stuff and this product needs at least 12 hours of messing with to figure out, hopefully. I am hoping that they haven't made it so cumbersome to navigate because they're hiding something, like not being able to save modified effects.

With this product i am using a Ibanez RG320FM and a Ibanez RG7321. im running through a Jade 100-VR. It is basically a stripped down version of the Marshall AVT100, it has a tube preamp and a solid state power amp. When i first got the unit it was abit noisy, but after fiddling around with it i got the noise to go away. the effects are pretty good, obviously not as good as single stomp box effects. I try not to copy peoples sound, im sure there are artists out there with the same tone as me but i dont try to copy anyone. I have the Korg runnning through my amps effects loop. I do not think this product has good distortion at all and having the unit running into the amp would wreck my amps distortion putting it through the effects loop solved this problem.

Despite the fact that my English is not that bad I still have problems in reading the manual. Would it be possible for me to find a Dutch manual on this, because when I try to adjust the settings I cannot set them so they stay the way I want the FX to sound? If anyone knows a link I can find some proper information about this device that would really be a great help!

It seems as if is nearly impossible to make FX sound short. I always have to palm-mute to prevent the FX to keep on sounding.
I know there should be more possibilities with this AX1500G but it takes a lot of time to set things the way you want them to sound. Despite all my comments I think this still is a great device to have and to play with. Ohw yes and I almost forgot the mention I use this AX1500G with a Laney HCM30R amp.

Very easy to use and understand. Top marks for the design. Just choose the effect type you want to change (eg Amp / Cab / Modulation / Pedal / Ambience), turn the chicken head knob to the effect you want (eg to move from Big Fuzz to Seattle amp) and then turn any of the five parameter knobs to, say, increase the filth of your overdrive sound!
The manual is OK, a bit budget, but gives you a reference tool when you forget how to perform a minor function such as the A/B channel memory on pre-sets.

I use a marshall JCM800 100W valve 2x12 combo with split channel. I use the clean channel and get my overdrives from the Korg. I go straight into the input of the amp, not the FX loop.
I am getting a bit of noise but I haven't had a good play with the noise gate yet.
The best thing for me is that the characteristics of your amp and guitar are maintatined (unlike the GNX! - yeuck!) and the tones stand their ground in the live mix of a full-on rock band! The GNX1 sounded fine on headphones or into my PC but was useless with the Marshall in a band situation.
All the FX sound good, even the Wah has its own characteristics, but I'm not a die-hard Wah freak so you may want to still use your Jim Dunlop or Morely if you are. I never like the harmonisers on these cheaper units as the harmonized note always sounds artificial, but I can get the intro to Crazy Horses great when using the Pitch Bend (aka Whammy) on the pedal! Wonderful digital delay (up to 3 secs) so you can do your Brian May Brighton Rock impression!!!

I play in a 70s Rock Tribute band called The Spacehoppers (www.thespacehoppers.com) so I need a good old overdrive with FX such as reverb, delay, wah, talk (aka Frampton!) phasers, flangers etc. I can get all these and more with this unit.
I've been playing in bands for nearly 20 years. I started with individual Boss pedals, then got an ME5 for its versatility. It basically wore out so I plunged into the digi FX market. Went for a GNX1 but it the tone was aweful, whatever I did with it.
As soon as I plugged the Korg into my amp I was so relieved cos the tone was there, just like with the ME5. I used it within a couple of days for a band rehearsal and they loved it. (The drummer threatened to throw my GNX1 in the skip if I used it anymore!!!)
There is no significant time delay when switching patches, inc A/B amps (there was with the GNX1) and the A/B pad means that there are effectively 6 settings you have instant access to within any bank (although it will only change the amp and cab settings, not change mods or ambience).
One issue: I would prefer to choose my bank directly rather than having to scroll down in series to choose. Also, acrolling up is a bit of a pain as it involves holding down 2 pads at once. Not easy after you've had a few beers at a gig!
Other than that this is the perfect budget FX pedal for a live situation. Get out there!!!!
PS I'm quite happy to swap patches, tips etc with otuer users.

Sound Quality

The quality of the sound depends on the kind of sound you need. The distortions and overdrives are superb, if you play stuff that requires any kind of distortion then this unit is great. However if you want good delay then you will be disappointed. You cannot get an accurate U2 sound for example because the delay time settings are not flexible enough. e.g they go from 333ms to 361ms but I want 352ms!!This is surprising since the Edge developed much of his trademark sound using Korg gear!
The best way to run the unit is through the back of your amp, that way you don't need to worry about your amps controls conflicting with the Korgs.

I find it very simple to work with in that it is a floor pedal modeler and not like the 'pod'. I used to hate to have to stop playing, turn a knob, then go back to my flow...this korg allows me to stomp a new sound out...I will say the manual for this is lame. Its about 2 pages of nothing...so you'll have to figure out how to get FULL use of this on your own. Otherwise. I dig it.

I'm using this korg with an epiphone lp and a fender chorus amp. On occasion a yamaha 12 string electric. Whereas I don't get much noise, I would like a little more power from it. The effects are mostly cool. At least as good as the 'pod' I used before this. The presets are a little cheesy but you probably won't use those anyway. I like the distortion and room modeling through my fender...it definitely sounds great...also, I can just hook up some headphones and rock away without even using my amp and I still get a good sound

It's quite easy to get good sounds out of, the knobs are intuitive and the manual explains everything. I imagine you could get quite lost without the manual, but they don't put the manual in the box for fun, do they?
The manual is clear and easy to read. It can be a bit fiddly editing different things though, and it's easy to mess up your settings by accident since the same 5 knobs are used to adjust everything. Doesn't take long to find good sounds though.
Sound Quality
:

6 seems a little harsh...there are some very good sounds on offer here, but some of them really aren't very good so that brings its overall score down. The "Top Boost" model with the "AC-30" cab for example sounds great. But the "metal" model is awful, and unless it's based on the Boss MT-2 (also awful) it's not doing a very good impression of something.
The clean sounds are good, the over driven ones also. I've found the accoustic simulator can be overly bassy at times and sounds pretty artificial most of the time, it takes quite a while to find a natural sounding tone out of it manually, although some of the patches get pleasent sounds.
I think when you know how to work this thing the first thing you should do is go through and edit every patch that's supposed to sound like a particular guitarists sound, as I got far closer manually adjusting things. I got convincing sounds for Jimmy Page's Led Zep I tone by using the "tweed 1x8" with the "brit stack", with lashings of reverb on the "Top Boost" with "Vintage 4x12" and both pickups I got a convincing Peter Green. Slayer, Metallica, Van Halen, Rolling Stones...it's all there. But you have to find it yourself because you can tell not much time went into the factory settings.

It seems sturdy, made of metal which is nice. The knobs seem a little flimsy and I can imagine something awful happening to one of them. The footswitches are plastic, but plastic is much tougher than people give it credit for in most cases.
I can only guess at how reliable this will be in the long term but it looks like I'll still have this in years to come.
As for gigging without a backup...only mugs gig without backups. No matter how good something is, a string can break, an output valve can fry, and some drunk muppet can spill his pint of lager all over your AX1500G. Never, ever, ever go without a backup if you can possibly avoid it.

I play anything from delta blues to thrash metal, which is part of the reason something so versatile was necessary. I use SGs for the most part, my only amp is a nasty nasal little solid state Fender (sold the Peavey Classic 30 because it was unuseable at home), and I have a couple of decent sounding accoustics, one which is set up for slide. I've been playing about 2 or 3 years seriously, although I tinkered about before then. This is an excellent addition to my gear and as soon as we're on the other side of Christmas I'll be looking for a new...quieter amp.
While I've given this critical ratings elsewhere I do think you're really getting your moneys worth here. It's a snap at #130, as I understand it the price may be higher elsewhere...your loss I suppose.
Once you know how to work it, it's a piece of cake. And a great sounding cake at that. Mellow sponge to rock & roll gatau. (Ugh I actually typed that out...)
There are some thing's I wish it had. A longer extension cord, a better rocker pedal (it's really not that smooth at all), and some way of running it on batterys.
But all in all, for #130 I can't complain. This unit is good value for money. Sure you could get something better, but pay twice as much, or three times as much for it. It's worth noting that Korg also did the tonelab SE thing for Vox, so this won't sound a million miles away from the Valvetronix I imagine.
But at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

Using it with a '78 Les Paul and a Ibanez JS1000 through a JSX (Joe Satriani) head and 5150 cab or a Randall Warhead. Using it with a Line6 Constrictor (compressor) and a 535Q Crybaby. All the other effects come from the korg and a little tweaking of the settings. By the way, the vox wah on the pedal is sub-par. Go out and get a CB or 535Q if you use one much.
As far as the noise and hissing some are complaining about, there is none if these guys would bother to adjust settings and use the amp for their volume instead of setting the master volume on everything to 10.
The distortion and effects hold their own. They're not on par with having the individual analog pedals, but they're better than many of the digital effects Ive used.
Emulating the sound of a particular song or artist is a piece of cake. Anything I turned on I could find a combination to match it in ten or fifteen minutes and saving the combo to a bank and naming it for easy acess just takes a few seconds. Although, I find many of the factory banks are missing something, so youre better off making youre own "ONE" setting if you want to pull of Metallica...

Would definetly get another if either of mine were stolen. "modeling" signal processor is a much better name for this than a multi-effects pedal. With a little patience and some tweaking you can get nearly any sound you need. I get 10 times more writing done now since I can instantly switch between any of my 32 presets (holds up to 48).
Just a few things you have to do to get a great sound out of it. Keep the volume down (theres a knob for this on the amp too), make youre own banks since the factory ones are usually lacking, and most importantly, play with the settings till you find the sound you want.
Spend $1500 on pedals to cover the useful qualities of the ax1500g or spend $200 on the pedal and a few hours learning the ins and outs (ie, effects settings).

My setup is simple, a Ibanez SA-400 stereo semi-hollow body into a 1994 Fender Princeton Chorus. This amp isn't the best sounding amp I've owned but the Korg breathes some much needed life back into it. I run the Korg into clean channel #1 and leave it at that. Of the 48 presets I've come across about a dozen of them I really like so far. The rest are just minor variations of other presets. The preset called "Trippin" allows me to explore Floyd's Us & Them and Shine On far deeper than I was getting with my assorted stomp boxes. The "FatStrat" preset does very well on the leads to Time. I'll be using this preset a lot I think. The preset "VH" sounds tasty on early Queen (Keep Yourself Alive et al). The Drive Amp/Cabinet modes are versatile and I can get some good sounds happening with great ease. I haven't used the pedal yet but I have a couple of Wah pedals so those bases are covered anyway. I went into the local music store looking for a reverb unit but ended up buying this instead for a good price. I'm glad I did.

I wasted too many hours on it to get some good tones. Now it is very easy for me to get any kind of tones. Factory preset patches are good and I still use some of them. The manual is very important if you didn't use a prosessor before. Its manual is good. There is a tuner, that is not good enough and a metronome for training.

I use it with my own handmade guitar, that solid maple body and ebony fingerboard. I have Dimarzio PafPro on the neck and Dimarzio Evolution on the bridge positions. I have a Dunlop Crybaby, so wah wah is not good enough on the prosessor. I use a Fender RocPro 1000 combo. I play on bars and pubs in several bands, so I have to get too many tones such as Rock'n Roll, Alternative, Pop, Oriental vs.. AX1500G is usefull for me. The clean sounds are good for a digital modelling prosessor but not good as analog single effect pedals. But there is a huge problem for distortion tones. Digital effects are never good as analogs especially on overdriven tones. Cabin simulations are very successful. So I think it's time for me to get some analog pedals.

My expansion pedal slacked in one year and it must be tighten monthly. The buttons are also same, but hardware is good. My drummer has dropped a cymball stand on it but there are no subsidences. I replaced the power cable becouse it has breaked off. I use it for over two years and it goes on clockwork.

If my AX1500G were stolen, I think, I would buy an MXR Double Shot Distortion, an MXR KFK 10 Band Equalizer and a Boss Stereo Chorus Essemble. If you would buy a prosessor I suggest you Boss GT6. I used one of them and I love it. But I tell you that, go and get some little, single, old and analog effect pedals.

Controls are easy. Well labled once. I was able to create a custom sound from scratch in the store while I was trying it out and it sounded awesome through a cheap practice amp.
Manual is decent too but really not needed after about 10 minutes just playing around with it.

I'm using this in line with a dunlop 535Q wah pedal, boss stereo chorus pedal, and an Analog man orange compressor. Guitar is a Carvin DC135 with an Allan Holdsworth humbucker in teh bridge and a Fender Texas special in the neck. Amp is a Carvin MTS combo.
I'm not sure what these other guys who are bitching about the noise are doing because this thing is quiet as a mouse. The noise reduction is fantastic and with a little playing around with teh threshold, I got it to cut out just perfectly.
Effects are pretty nice. There are some usless ones of course like the gay ass ring modulator. HAHAHA What were they thinking!?
I can get a LOT of my favorite artist's sounds with this thing. It's almost unbelievable. Eddie's original sound from his VH1 and 2 albums are a piece of cake, Steve Vai is a snap along with the dire straights "money for nothing" les paul tone. With the texas special, I've pretty much nailed David Gilmore's sound from pink floyd's pulse album along with the Edge's sound from U2 (when we play "where the streets have no name" people swear that it's a recording of the song they're hearing!)
The distortions are all amazing. You really do need to sit down and spend some time playing around with the different parameters and also play around with different cab types and those settings also. They can make a big difference on how the sound comes out and I've noticed that the cab settings are the key to some of the signature sounds.

I've been playing for about 11 years now and this unit has helped me take my playing to new horizons with it's broad tonal spectrum. Steve vai and Joe Satriani use one. That's reason enough to go get one!
I'd definately have to have another if this one got broken or stolen but it's built like a tank so I don't forsee the first option happeneing anytime soon.
If any of you are interested in different parameter and program settings that I'm using, feel free to send me an email!

ANTES DE LEER ESTE "USER REVIEW", TE SERVIRIA MUCHO LEERTE EL MANUAL (lo puedes bajar en formato PDF de la pagina de Korg), YA QUE VOY A USAR TERMINOS BASTANTE ESPECIFICOS Y ES IMPORTANTE QUE TENGAS UN BUEN MAPA MENTAL DEL APARATO. LO QUE TRATO DE HACER AQUI ES PONER TODA LA INFO QUE (obviamente) NI KORG NI NADIE VA A PONER NUNCA EN UN MANUAL.

Have been using it with a ESP LTD V350 (vith SD Custom-Custom and '59) and a Jackson Warrior XT (stock pups).
This thingy is NOISY AS HELL. I can't even see how you can actually get away with all that noise pouring over your sound, really.
Also, the distortion models are so weak - you can basically hear that it's cheap digital distortion. At one moment I thought I was playing on a Zoom 505ii with metal casing and expression pedal.
The effects are okay, I guess. But being so noisy makes the unit useless.
Also the acoustic guitar simlation is laughable at. They shoudn't have included it if it's so weak.
From what I can gather, this is a glorified Zoom 505ii in a metal case and with more options to add noise to your signal. Ah yes, and with an expression pedal attached (too bad the expression effects are weak).
My tip: Go A/B tis with a Behringer V-Amp 2. You'll see the difference. If you don't literally stampede your gear, I see no use for the metal case anyway.

I play old-school rock, hard rock, metal, blues and even pop. Been doing it for some time, too.
First of all, I wouldn't buy this unit to start with. Korg should stick to making the wonderful keyboards and tuners that they do and not make a (gently said) half-assed guitar multi-effects pedal.
And yes, metal casings are totally over-rated - they shoulda invested in the R&D for better sounds and less noise instead of putting money in a 'nice' case.
Oh, and swithcing banks down is totally idiotic - how on Earth am I supposed to do that stupid tap-dance of pressing two buttons simmultaneously with my foot and then confirming my selection with another button press?!
Don't buy this online, go to a shop and A/B it with a Behringer V-Amp 2 or even a Zoom 707ii. I think you'll make your own mind afterwards.

Some sounds are pretty good but others leak of quality. half of drive amps create or amplifiate noise and generate harassing feedback while i'm practicing with the band. The effects that use the expression pedal are not pretty good too, but the modulation effects and the echo/reverb effects are perfect. Theses effects are the reasons why i keep it.

The korg ax1500g is extremely easy to use. Just flicking the switch, push a button and it's done. It has all the different options printed on it so there is no confusion of where to find anything. Editing on this is simple aswell, just turn the nob and save it. The use of a manual is really neaded unless your going to use the record function. This is the latest unit so has all the latest features. It is pretty much exactly the same as the previous one, the only difference is the appearance of it.

I use a Marshall TSL 100 head, custom made quad with JBL speakers. Morley Bad Horsie 2 wah and Jim Dunlop Gain pedal. The drive amp (distortions) sound extremely good. The only one i hate is the acoustic simulater because it has this ugly hiss to it. The cabnit options sound ok aswell. I don't really use these much though, only on 1 effect. The pitch shifters on here have a bit of a delay which i dislike aswell and the expresion pedal effect sound shocking aswell. The wah simulation is more like an on/off switch than an actual wah pedal. The echo and reverb effects are fine. I can't say anything bad about them.

This pedal is extremely reliable. I take this pedal everywhere i play because i know it can take a bit of a beating. I use a seperate power supply because i don't really want lots of power leads everywhere, it frees up space. Also with the power supply, the cable can get damaged. It swivels a bit on the actual power pack. I like the idea but i managed to damage this.

I am currently saving up for a wireless system and i'm going to buy a digitech gnx4 multi effects unit to replace my korg. The korg is really good if all u want is a pedal. If u want to record, use a drum machine or have extra outputs this is not the pedal for u. With the aid of a seperate expresion pedal such as my Morley Wah, the korg ax1500g is really nice.

I use it mainly on "Individual mode" (every button is on/off fx than changung preset). Through amp, you can turn off the cab emulator.. Sounds better than way, at least for me.. With cab-emu it's great for straight to mixer recording after little adjustment..
Clean sounds are good after bit of fine tuning for one's own style..

How if it were stolen? I will buy another one.
I love the cabinet sound, but why the A/B channel just for drive amps and cabinet? Why not all 5 effect chain in whole A or B channel? I hate that... I wish it had intelegent harmonizer fx.
I do compare with GT-6 but don't like the price the dealer gave me. GT-6 is a cool device, so is AX1500G. Also tried Zoom, but don't like the distortion color. I'm low budget, so I bought this one (and it is perfect choice!). If I'm a big budget guitarist, i'll buy boss and morley pedals... :)

I don't know what some other people are talking about, but the sound quality of this thing is AWESOME! There are a few things to keep in mind however...
-Don't bother using the cabinet simulators through a guitar amp, it will sound like garbage. That's not what that feature is for.
-Nowhere on this unit does it say "Marshall" or "Vox". It does not sound like another amp, it has generalized sound categories which, in my opinion, are MUCH more useful. You get WAY more flexibility with this unit than something that simulates 10 different kinds of overdrive amps that all sound the same.
-This unit is super-wicked for the STUDIO. When using the ax1500g direct in with the cabinet simulators turned to the line in setting, you can get some AWESOME tone! If I could give it an 11 out of 10 I would.

ONE NOTE HOWEVER
-It is awesome for the studio, but I agree with some other opinions here about how inadequate it is for live situations. I can't use this thing live. Buttons are too small, and having to press 2 buttons together to scroll down the banks is WAY too impractical. I'm also paranoid that someone will step on one of the knobs, and then I'd have to kick their ass.

It real easy to use if you have messed with things like this before. Editing patches is really easy, but changing them is a bitch! The pedals are small and to close together. I have stared to play in just my socks so I can change patches. When playing live in the mist of all the chaos it hard to put your big size 13 Boot on a little pedal thats 1/2 inch a way from the other one. I also do not like the 2 button step to bank down.

The sound quality is great(with a eq pedal after it). All of these people that are giving bad reviews (because it does not replicate good enough) need to realize that NOTHING is going to sound like a Marshall but a Marshall. It partly Korg fault for advertising that but buy now everyone should know what DIGITAL PROCESSOR ARE LIKE AND ABOUT. Anyway, The distortion are great for Metal and anything harsh or ballsy. If your looking for something thats warm and perfect this is not it. The effects are good but I do not really get to deep in the effects. As Easy as it gets. Editing fairy easy, but a lot of times a tweak in one setting, say flanger, disappears while you're turning the knob to another effect in that same block, say chorus, and when you get back the flanger resets to whatever "original" it was. Manual is just decent, but not that good. There's no explanation to, for example, what AP and Ln stands for in the Cabinet editing parameter AIR section. I make a qualified guess that it means AMP and LINE, but can't be sure. Anyway, it's quite easy to get an overview by just looking at it. But 8 effects simultaneously? C'mon, Hall + Echo I can understand, but Noise Reduction an effect? Chorus/Flanger should NOT be lumped as 2 effects as someone proposed. I can only get 6 effects running simultaneously. Period.

Using a Squier strat with EMG SA. This unit is not noisy and its NR (Noise Reduction) masks noise and release quite carefully although not as swell as HUSH's (ROCKTRON) products. Full tilt distortion sounds are what this unit is all about. Great! But I still have to hear/see a cabinet modeller that sounds great. Virtually ALL of these modelling manufacturers seem to overlook the factor that a speaker starts to make a thump, when driven to it's maximum. And that a speaker is sensitive to pick attack, and starts to make this big thump only when picking hard on the lower strings. So I am using mostly with the cabinet sims off, in a STUDIO setting direct to the PC/mixer. Using no real guitar amp at all. Favorite artists? None, I get my own sounds, and what I particularly noticed when playing through headphones for quite a while that one didn't get that digital noise hangover - modelling fatigue - with this unit as much as with others (say ME-50, or Berhingers V-amp). It has a bits and bytes flying out of the reverb settings though, which are poorer than average, so I turn these down in the mix. Delay and echo settings seems the better ones on this unit. The Echo simulator of different heads are great and the inherent chorus effect the tape head simulator makes, in one of the delay settings. Great for SHADOWS/VENTURES and surf echo effetcs if one only could get a decent clean sound! Wah and volume everybody here seems to agree on, it's a shame you can't tamper with the settings more. I think that the limited settings on the compressor is a downer, and the semi-clean and semi-distorted settings are a no-no on this unit. It has not the dynamics enough to follow ones pick attack. Ring mods and all those space FX (Traveler) could they have exchanged for better control over WAH and compressor, and better reverb. They're decent but average. Pitch shifter could be a lot nicer sounding. Chorus and Flangers, well how can anyone fail with these nowadays? And as with all these units, as someone pointed out, there really seems to be a delay (no matter how slight) between actual pick of a note and when it jumps out of the speaker. It's NOT the noise reduction setting. Eric Johnson sound? forget it. There are other's I've tried which comes a lot closer, even - lo and behold - the very ancient Boss SE70! This unit, excels in quietness, and distortion. Oh hey, and the metronome! Finally they have this white noise chip sound, and not the pitch one, which drives anyone crazy before it reaches the first bar. This sound - white noise click - makes me not so fatigued when practicing.

Played for 30 years. Owns, and have owned a whole load of stuff, since in the 80's I used to work for a while for KORG Sweden as a product specialist and demonstrator. So, while none of those 80s products holds up very well today, at least, I know what to look out for, and can get picky about details. What I love about this unit the sturdiness, and ease of use. What I would like too see in ANY live floor unit is a LIGHT SENSOR, and a dynamic contrast display that would sense the stage lights our outdoor sunlight and match the display's power accordingly. When it's completely dark on stage, a full glowing red display could actually harm ones eyes (the contrast being too sharp) so then it should dim accordingly. In sunlight or bright stagelights the display should increase so everything on it turns discernable. But you can't expect this on this unit for it's price. I wish it had more parameters and that you could combine any effect in any block without defeating the other block. And still, I want that "overspill" effect, that when you switch a program it should NOT become silent at all for ANY tiny bit of second or even a chirp or glitch in sound. Regardless of program and how much effects one use. I think Rocktron have been the only ones, who once made such units. If it's for live use, such things should be a priority. I can get very good shredders metal sounds out of this box, and low tuned riff sounds. This is what this units seems to be all about. And a last thing, where does this 8 effects simultaneously comes from?

OK, it's not true simulations, it just gives you the flavor of the original models.
But what do you expect with that price ?
I'm using different guitars with it :
- American Fender Strat with Texas Special PU
- Mexican Fender Tele with Duncans (vintage rhythm and hot rails)
- Hohner G3T (Steinberger copy)
I use all kind of sounds : clean, crunch, lead.
Very noisy with acoustic simulation when the level is full. And you need to push the level 'cause there's too many difference between the output.
The effects sounds good in general. This is not over the top, but correct. Considering the nice price of this unit, it's wonderful.
I think this is the best bargain and the first correct multi-effect pedal-board. If you want better, you have to spend much more.
I'm playing straight thru the console, and it works well. In this case, you have to EQ the console strictly flat.
I don't use all the distortions, Seattle is useless, metal, classic dist, quite the same.
The best are the VOX, Marshall and high gain simulations.
Concerning the clean sound, it's a bit disappointing, cause you just have "classic comp" and then you have to choose a cabinet simul.
I better like some more amps simuls. Anyway, you can have some correct sounds.
Chorus are pretty good, flanger and phasing correct.
The Wha is a bit weak.
Echo and reverb correct.
The rest is just for fun...
I don't how it's reacting with an amp.
With the price in mind, this unit deserves an 8 or 9.
I just give a 6, cause there's not so many nice sounds you can get out of it.

I'm playing since 1980, and if an asshole would steel this, I should watch carefully what appeared on the market since I bought it.
I don't think there's many products in this range of price.
Korg should update this product with more amps (one Mesa-Boogie for the lead sounds) especially clean sounds (Fender and Jazz Chorus) and throw away the shit you don't really need (talking pedal is useless !!!).

I must respond to the terrible review from Dantheman. I totally disagree with his assesment, having owned & used the AX1500 for over 3 months now. It has a great sound running it into my amp! Maybe he didn't read the manual to explore it to it's fullest potential. I don't believe he owns all those other MFX units and bothered to go buy the Korg, sounds fishy to me.
Anyways, the secret to using the AX1500 with an amp is to run in the "clean comp" mode with the cab sims off, all 3 tone controls pegged at 10, the drive at 2, and the level at 7.3 Using it in this mode, you dial in the crunch you want on your amp without the Korg, then use thiese settings to achieve an almost true bypass sound. Then just layer effects or engage the cab sims for added oomph. This unit compliments your sound, doesn't create it for you!
Editing patches is as easy as tweaking the knobs 'til you're happy, hit the "write" button twice, and it's saved. The manual explains things very well, an idiot might have trouble with it.

My current set-up: Gibson Flying V 83
Gibson LP Custom (78)
Yamaha SBG1000 Santana model (84)
Peavey 2x12 130w combo with GK 2x12 ext. cab
I run guitar > Bad Horsie wah > Carl Martin Hot Drive'n'Boost MKII > AX1500G > amp. I upped the noise gate on the metal patches to 8, otherwise leave it at factory 6, and no noise at all.
The effects: I use the "Seattle" setting for all my solos and heavy metal, I run it with the 4x12 modern cab sim, and it has thunderous bottom and singing sustain! Don't use many other distortions or cab sims, 'cause my amp gets great sounds on it's own. The choruses (stereo & mono) are lush, the flanger and tremole are decent, the reverbs are pristine (and it has a great spring reverb, unlike another reviewer said) and the delays & echos are first-rate! I don't like the wah sim, hence the Bad Horsie. This frees up the Korg's pedal which I program to give me delay on any patch, so I don't have to write it in. Some effects I don't use, like talker, u-vibe & ring modulator, so I have no comment on them.
Here's where the AX1500 shines: it has an A/B channel on every patch, and has 48 user patches, so it's like having 96 patches at your feet! Every patch can have lead/rhythm, chorus/metal, etc. Plus it can run in manual mode, using the bank buttons as on/offs for the effects. I can get anything from CCR to Gary Moore to Metallica with this thing, and I do, because I gig with it every week! A very live-use friendly pedal, requiring a lot less programming than the Boss GT6 with better-sounding distortions.
The only 2 drawbacks to the Korg are the small buttons (I have big feet) and the millisecond delay when switching patches, but I quickly adjusted to both of these minor problems. But they knock my rating down to a 9.

I play classic rock covers in a working band, been playing over 30 years, and have owned tons of pedals and several amps in that time. Only wish I got one of these sooner, would have stopped my "tap dancing" on 14 pedals a long time ago!
If it were lost or stolen, that would make me a moron who couldn't take care of his own gear, wouldn't it? Stupid question.
For anyone looking for a good stage-use MFX, I highly recommend this one! You could get a Boss GT6 & spend days programming it, or the ME50 & spend $ for a power adapter(it doesn't come with one) and an extra footswitch to bank up/down (won't do this on it's own)or just get the Korg AX1500G and be happy the first time around.

How easy is it to get a good sound out of it? Plug it in.
How about Editing patches? If you're familiar with stompbox lingo you'll find it a breeze.
How is the manual for it (if there is one)? Didn't get a manual so I can't say.
Do you know the firmware revision number? Don't know it.
Has your unit been upgraded? Not to my knowledge.

Using USA Fender Strats, G&L Legacy Special and the super under rated Peavy T-25.
Quiet unit except on radical settings. Much quieter than Digi-Trash units.
Using no amp...Being a former journeyman the only use I have for an amp is something to have to leave behind in an Airport or Bus terminal.
I found all the sounds I needed quickly and easily.
Like many have said below the wah is a bit weak...but I havn't tinkered with it much either.
Again a 9 ... They probably won't publish this because I'm pretty high on this little box. Matter of fact I believe I left one post already but don't see it anywhere.

This is where it loses bigtime. It is "not" an amp modeler. It "may" be an amp distortion (and heavy at that) modeler, but notan amp. It gives you lots of heavy crunch and distortions. thats it. i hated the effects, they are "not" models of real effects, they are tinny makeshift imitators. the company lies about the fact they say it has ""56"" modeled effects. they count the eq, lousy comp(which you cant use with amp dist)expresion pedal, standard digital fx, "each" dif amp model, spkr sim, every diff delay, including reverb with delay, and that is lame. "none" are modeled. i would like to see how they digitally re-create the components of the originals. you know they didnt model a volume pedal!! i think it is really one of there worst products.

After using a PX4 and Tonelab, the AX1500G seems to have some glaring shortcomings. It's ridiculously hard to get a good uncompressed clean sound. The midrange control is voiced very badly and imparts a nasal honk when turned up at all. There is no reverb even approaching the sound of a spring.
Of course, these observations are made while trying to use it as an amp modeller live, not as a distortion pedal for an amp, which is how a lot of the reviewers seem to be using it.
I was going to use it for quicky pickup gigs so I didn't have to tear down my other rig, but I put it on Ebay and sold it immediately for a $50 loss and don't miss it.

I'm using an Epiphone LP with Seymour Duncans 59's in both Neck and Bridge and a variety of amps including a Fender Hot Rod Deville, Marshall DSL201 and an army of Marshall MG series.
This a great little effects box, its not noisy and the factory presets are ok, but with a little tweaking you can get some tonally classy sounds.
However like a lot of digital effects it sucks the tone out of higher end amps. It beefs up my MG100 brilliantly but tonally deadens the Hot Rod. But then, for example, if you've shelled out for a Gibson LP and bluesbreaker, why would you buy an amp modeller?
Most of the effects are great and can sound better with tweaking. Distortion,,chorus, flange and univibe are particularly good. With the factory presets you can get a better Page sound on the *ZEP* preset if you whack up Presence on the Cabinet control, you get a really nice "communications breakdown" sound. You can also get a brilliant Hendrix fuzzy univibe sound with Fuzz-4x12 vintage-univibe-echoplus, settings (still can't get the wah to sound good though: will update when I work out how).
This unit is biased towards more classic sounds rather than full on metal shred, the amp and cab combinations work really well. Some of the presets have dodgy volume issues which can be corrected but this unit rewards you with experimentation.

Once you get the hang of using the control sequence it goes smooth and fast.

I'm using a G&L S500 and a Les Paul Custom through a Mackie Board and a 15 watt class A amp. The unit is very quiet on most setting finding only a few of those with some modulation extremes offering noise but the the noise reduction in the unit handles it without a problem. Personally I don't care for the factory settings but with a little tweaking I have been able to get anything I've wanted (so far). The distortions are great although you have to work to get any edge to them, they all lean toward the dark side of the force. I play a little of everything and have been able to get everything from Clapton and Castro to Vai and Johnson. Just takes some time dialing them in.

Predominately a Classic Rock/Blues player but like I said I touch on just about everything and this will help me put some of my trusty stomp boxes in the back up catagory. I've been playing for 40+ years and can't think of much I haven't owned or played through over my career, this little unit simplifies both recording and live work and I would replace it if anything happened to it. Ridiculously inexpensive for the quality and very simple to operate. The instruction book leaves something to be desired, confused me more than helped me in some places. I've got a ton of high end stomp boxes and this unit although not a fulltone does a damn good job for the money and I would recommend it to anyone looking for great bang for the buck. You'll want to keep your wah wah and pitch shifter but the rest will begin to gather dust after you plug into this. Buy it!

The pedal is easy to use out of the box, sure. There are 40+ patches built in that you can play or use as starting points for the other 40+ user programmable patches. The knobs are intuitive enough and make tweaking the models easy. The Sample and Play isn't all that easy and requires reading the manual, but it is cool once you get the hang of it.

I bought this unit because it modeled *effects* not amps. I wanted a budget pedalboard with all the classics on it. I didn't have experience with the majority of the effects supposedly modeled (see http://www.dominocs.com/ToneWorks) so I couldn't tell for sure how close the models were other than by playing around to mimic other players who used certain effects. Over the past week I got ebay crazy and bought up 7 of the effects that I used most often on the AX1500G. After much ABing and noodling around, I'm only keeping the Ibanez TS7 and a Vesta Fire digital reverb. And the AX1500G of course; I luckily killed my auction on ebay for it before someone did a Buy it now!.
Issues:
For ease, I wanted a patch that was clean of any AX1500G effects so that I could quickly bypass the unit without having to hold a button down for 1 sec (but not two seconds, ouch). Check out www.dominocs.com/ToneWorks to see what I came up with. It works.

I play classic rock and newer stuff like Satrianni. I've been playing now for about 20 years. I generally play a les paul into a vox 486 wah pedal, then the tubescreamer, then the AX1500G, then the vesta fire reverb, and end up in two Gibson Skylark amps (cira 1963). If I needed another one I get one sure. What's good is that I can use the thing as 5 different Tube Screamers (or any model) all with different levels of scream and all just one tap of the foot away.
The only thing I don't like is the need to press two switches to move down the patch list. I'll be cracking the unit open and seeing if I can wire my own switch for this pretty soon. I'll have instructions on how I did it at my ToneWorks website when I get it done.

It is fairly easy to use and very easy to edit patches as well. The manual is pretty self explanatory but, you still have to fidget with the thing when it comes to getting the volume levels of the patches so your dirty channels don't blow you out of the water when you switch from a clean patch. Nothing like stepping on the dirty channel during a gig and it blows everyone away cuz it is so loud!

I am playing through a custom shop H/H Kramer into the AX1500G. I run one side to a Peavey 100 Transtube Head and the other side to a Randall RH100 100 watt amp head. Out of each amp, I run into (2) 2x12 75 watt Celestians.
I have found that I have had to use the noise suppressor on the distortion patches setting it to about 70%. It gives me the sustain i need without the feedback that every guitar player dreads unless they WANT feedback!
The effects sound great on any setting once you have themn tweaked to your liking. Me, I am a tonemeister!
I have found that by tweaking certain settings in the EQ, you can get the sound of just about any guitarist out there. There are even patches that are preset. One being the Led Zeppelin sound. Another being the Van Halen "Brown Sound" But, in my opinion, it isn't THAT easy to get Eddie's sound!
I have found that the British sound givbes you the sound of a Marshall or a Randll head which I think is awesome! I love sustain! The choruses are pretty good as well. Flange and other effects sound good but, you have to tweak them some.

The manual is nearly as good as it gets. As an info freak that's sying something. The presets are broken down in the back so you can put them back in if you want. Editing the patches (sounds) is easy esp after working with it. 2-30 sec depending on what you do. NO MENUES. When you start dialing a knob it begins editing that parameter. It doesn't get easier. Easy to get a good sound. Most people that think it isn't easy haven't spent time with it. It isn't a one know wonder but but it does infinitely more. It has line charts on the front (see Picture) to show you what knobs do what - 5 'tweakers' for 5 parameters (drive amp, cabinet, 2 banks of effects plus well supplied reverb and echo). Again read the booklet. I'm real happy with book and the way it's set up.

My set up is a 2 channel crate amp and a Schecter Classic guitar- retails $800 - 1000. As a reference Fender would sell this for $1300 or more. (Seymore Duncan PU, Grover tuners, tunable locking bridge, through-bdy neck, 24 jumbo frets. Appears to be extra knob and custom wiring as well. These guys made custom guitars for some big people Mark Knoppfer and Prince and others). Point is- decent axe to start with.
Not noisy at all to me but I don't PUSH THE LIMIT. I do a lot of classic stuff.
Best to me are the drive amps/cabinets and the various echos and ambience. They truly sound good if you use the right one for what you doing. Out of the box I wasn't bowled over by the non-distortion effects, but I don't use them a lot, I haven't played with them much and they don't do that much for me (a GOOD Leslie cabinet would have been nice). I mainly wanted ambience and great tones and much of that vintage. Yes I can get alot of my favorite artists sounds. I would consider this a must have if you do cover material. This is set up to WORK. I use this at home through amp or headphone. You can ROCK in the living room and not disturb a soul. You really have to hear it to appreciate it. It could change the whole scope of your playing. But if you don't want to invest a little time learning it you will miss a lot.

They're going fast, but I went to a lot of trouble to get this one and it was worth it. retails $350 Lot of dough but prob worth it if you do more than just make noise. Look at the price of just one ibanez or boss. Not to say I wouldn't get one, but this a LOT of bang for your buck. and very versatile and creative. I've spent hours at a time playing and tweaking and enjoyed every minute of it.
I play mostly classic but I try other things that come out. Pretty eclectic really.
Definitely would miss it.
Playing in bands on and off since 1975.
Definetely gives me an edge. Does it get it in my way? Not usually but like your woman, it's worth it.
If you're young or new or just don't have the dough, ok, but if you're serious check this one out. I did a lot of on line research and it was dead on what I expected. And I was expecting a lot. Good luck.

I've had this unit for a few weeks now, and found right out of the box it was easy to get some good sounds. I owned the AX1G before this so I was already familiar with multieffects pedals, but even if you weren't, this unit is pretty darn easy with some looking through the manual. It's plenty informative, with good explanations. Editing and creating is very easy, but like other units you can't have certain effects on at the same time. Gotta learn to work around that. Other than that, it's not hard.

I'm using this with (don't laugh) a Squier Strat, Boss Ds-1, and a Fender Frontman 25R (which will soon be upgraded for something better hehe). Even with that pretty low priced setup, this pedal sounds gorgeous. I used to use an AX1G, but eventually decided I needed more, but I had no idea how muddy the old pedal was until I bought this. Let me get this out of the way: the factory programs are mostly pretty crappy, but that's the case with pretty much every multieffect pedal out there. They're really noisy and have volume jumps that'll give you a heart attack, but hey, if you buy a pedal like this to use factory presets, you dont deserve to own it ;) That said, the effects are gorgeous, and my own programs are dead quiet. I wasn't sure at first what exactly earlier reviews described when they said it was "transparent." Now I understand. The tone of your guitar shows through the effects, rather than being completely colored by it. The choruses are very rich and smooth, and the reverbs are very sweet. The distortions are awesome. For a long time I searched for a distortion pedal that could give me a smooth, kinda subtle, full-yet-hollow distortion sound. That search came to an unexpected end with this thing. I wonder why all distortions can't be this adjustable; you get Gain, Level, Treble, Middle, and Bass. When you set up the Cabinet models to compliment the Drive, it is great. The pitch bender when tweaked has only a tiny delay, which isn't enough to mess up your rhythm when playing (unlike the one on the 1G, which I never used for that reason). The only complaint I have is the wah, which is the only effect with no adjustable perimeters. I have no idea why, and if I could make it less nasal I'd probably use it. The rest though, is beautiful. Besides Joe Satriani uses this unit, and while I didn't buy it because of that, it's nice to know that it's good enough for a pro.

I'm pretty eclectic, I like basically any kind of music if I'm in the right mood. My favorite bands though are U2, Blue October, Counting Crows, and Peter Gabriel...sort of a melodic, emotional rock I guess. My band plays something like that with a lot of jazzy chords and some classical technique. Anyway, the pedal works wonders for me. I've been playing for about 6.5 years now, and can finally afford some quality gear. This was the first of my upgrades, and what a huge difference it makes. To be honest, I like the way my Squier sounds, so I may not even get another guitar. I chose this over the ME-50 because I figured if I could get a pretty good sound outta the AX1G, I should love this one. Also with the 1G I developed a taste for using delay on the expression pedal, and the ME-50 doesn't do that. Plus the A/B Channel feature sounded interesting, and I love it. At first, I was disappointed that it switched back to Channel A when I changed programs, but I decided to check the manual, and sure enough you can set it to stay on the current channel. I wish the wah was adjustable, but then, I never used much wah, so it's not that big a deal to me. But with the price you can afford a seperate wah pedal too hehe. My music has been sounding very good on this unit, and I can make sounds that I couldn't before. There may be something better out there, but I love it.

I switched my old Korg G3 (which was easier of use than a glass of water) for an AX1500G a few months ago and I got it because after trying it for half an hour at the store, I understood how simple it is to operate. Even during live performance, tweaking a sound ain't much trouble; it all feels like having a rack of separate pedals.
The manual (very well made) comes in handy to learn those few tricks you cannot really figure out at first i.e. calibrating the expression pedal etc.
Now, where I'm a bit disappointed... First thing that bugged me is that there is no bank down switch. You go up the bank (16 of them or something like that) using the fourth switch but to go down you need to press both third and fourth switch at the same time which, if not done correctly, leads you to the bank up or worse than that, selects the third preset and mess up your play. I find this rather stressful during shows because as soon as I want to go back through the bank I need to give a bit too much concentration on the board. And I find my playing better when I keep my concentration on it...
But just like a recent review I saw here, I decided to reprogram the whole thing using it with the individual setup which will be much more useful.
That is another problem. It's almost too easy to use and there are like too many ways to do the same thing. I've been reprogramming the whole thing for the third time yesterday (not done yet). I find it particulary difficult to get all my patches on an equal sound level. There are like way too many thing affecting the level and it can get confusing. I find that even changing the equalizer for the chosen distortion changes drastically the sound level. There's like the drive and level of the distortion, then there's the equalizer, the master level and the patch level. So I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring what sounds best...
Also there's one thing I miss from my G3... If you want to bypass it you need to hold the pedal from the patch you're on for something like 2 seconds; I can't really time that when I'm playing and I need to switch from distort to clean very precisely or worse, when I want to bypass and kick in another stomp box... On the G3, stomping the active patch would immediately bypass the board.
And it's so easy to use that when I try to program some new patches, I always end up just playing with the damn thing around for hours. But that's my problem!

I'm using a Fender American Std. Strat. going through an Hendrix Wah then sometimes a Big Muff (I rarely use it anymore, I'm trying to cut down on the equipement.) then the AX1500G and then in a Fender Deville 2x12".
I don't have noise problems so far (I leave the noise reduction at 6 for most patches) although I had some heavy feedback problems on one show but that was probably more a problem with my guitar...
Most effects are good. Just like anything, if you exagerate the settings it ends up sounding like shit but the more I'm using it, the more I'm finding subtle things that sound great.
I also recorded some tracks at home, plugged directly in the computer and I could get a very fine sound out of it. Same goes for headphones playing; with the cabinet simulation, distortion can sound good even through headphones.
Although everyone here and even the salesman says that the cabinet sims doesn't sound good through an amp, I believe it still can be used if you want to do some low-fi stuff or something weird...

This thing seems to be strong enough to last for years.
I've been using it for the last 10 gigs and I didn't have any problems. But maybe I should still carry my old G3 just in case...
There is one thing that scares me a bit about it; it's the switch beneath the expression pedal. It's like a long thin plastic stick and it's a bit loose... I'm scared it might stop working. And I don't know for the rest of the foot switches.
I had to replace all the footswitches on my G3 because they stopped working at some point. I wish the ones on the AX1500G are stronger.
Another problem with the pedal is the led panel... It works great in the dark but last summer, we did an exterior show in the afternoon and I could not see a single thing on the board. I could not even see the pedals' light so I never knew which patch was on. I could not tune either since I use the inboard tuner. So I had to crouch down an cover the led panel with my hand.
It also happened in another show where there were many spotlight headed straight on the stage...

So far I didn't have any problems with it. I have a one or two years warranty (not sure) and if I have any problem, they told me to bring it back at the store and there shouldn't be any trouble.
Although, when my G3's switches were broken, I could not find any and back at that time Korg didn't have any serious website (now they have a nice one) so I could not find any way to contact them and order switches. I ended up finding some similar switches in an electronic store. I had to modify them and then remove the broken ones from the board which was really difficult because I don't have the equipment for that. I was scared for a second it would stop working because I scratched up the whole board but it still works!

I've been playing for ten years and in my band I play as many style as I can, majorly rock and blues with touches of progressive, jazz and funk. You can check us out at www.theoriginalwreckingcrew.com
I think that the unit has enough to satisfy me. But like it was said earlier, I wish that some of the effects had more fine tuning (ie jumping for 2.3 to 2.7 is sometimes too much for some parameters etc.)
In overall, I like it pretty much. The simplicity of it all is what's great about it, all very intuitive.
The thing I hate is the lack of bank down. I'm slowly getting used with the individual setup which will come in much more useful. Something great about it is that you can program an effect, then turn it off and then save the program but it will still remind the settings for that effect when you kick it in individual mode.
The possibility of two channels per program is really really great; something I didn't truly realize at first. In a few weeks, I'll be wishing there was 3 or 4 channels for each programs! It is a very versatile toy...
I compared it at the store with uhm...one of latest Boss' multieffect, I can't remember the model. That one seemed fine too but there was no bank up or bank down pedal! You had to buy it separately... Already being used with Korg, I choose the AX1500G. It just felt a lot better to me at the store.
Does it help make music? Yes and no! Like I said earlier, it's like too easy to drift off in it. You turn some knobs and then you play and play, just doing strange sound effects and then you gotta go to sleep because you've been playing all night and next day you play again but turn some other knobs and just play something else and it goes on and on without ever remembering everything...

Easier than my mum after 10 large borubons to operate, anybody who has used multi effects will fly thru this one, and for those who haven't, a quick read of the manual will sort u out. Editing patches is also easy. I had 16 sounds stored on my previous multi effects unit including loads of tricky delay sounds, reverbs, drive and clean, tremolo, but its all catered for and i managed to store them all in around 2 hours.

Quality is awesome. I use a Fender Telecaster Mexican and an Epiphone Sheraton with a Fender 185 Stage Amp. It sounds very nice, as I expected. I was worried that there were not going to be enough clean sounds for the wimpy songs i play but it really is ok, and the acoustic drive amp noise isn't that bad either. It has been slated but is ok for me. The wah is a tad whiny and needs a lot of tweaking but again i was surprised by quality after reading most opinions of it here. I try and recreate Coldplay, U2, Longview and use a lot of E-Bow while trying to play along to Beth Orton. Sometimes I can hardly tell the difference between the sounds I am making and what I am playing along to. There are lots of options available in most effect blocks. The only negative here is that alot of the settings especially in the delay effects have increments of 10 or 20 instead 0f 1. For instance I am used to having Stereo delay at 210, but the only options are 202 or 227 or something, so my sounds has had to change slightly to accomodate this. The distortion effects however are second to none.

The Boss G-6 is probably one step up, but for sheer quality as far as price goes its the best out there

First of all, I feel I need to say that YOU NEED TO HAVE A GOOD GUITAR TO GET GOOD GUITAR SOUNDS/EFFECTS!!! This unit sounded like crap going into a Fender Squire that I used at the shop...one trip downstairs to the Les Paul's took care of that! I currently own one guitar-a Gibson Les Paul. I love the acoustic guitar sound-if you tweak it correctly it doesn't just sound like compression but a true full body guitar. The distortions sound pretty good but need to be tweaked. I do like the wah wah only on my treble pick-up-the high's are unbearable for the rhythm pick-up. I am not using an amp!!! This is why I bought it. At church my Music leader uses a GT-5 straight into the p.a. and I wanted to be able to do that as well into a Roland MA-8 Monitor speaker-but recommend using a real amp-I don't want to buy one and I don't want to haul one around-it would probably scare my grandmother!

There are lots of distortion effects, although i only use between 2 and 3 and they are very good for playing metal and rock. It definately rocks all other multieffect processors i ever heard.
2 kinds of phasers, however i dont use the'm really,
I must say the talkbox and wahwah and ringmod wont impress anybody, so the builtin Pedal will be used for volume control mainly. The pitch shifter is NOT a smart pitch shifter.

Sorry...i can?t speak english very well, so there?s only a little translation in the end...

ENGLISH LITTLE (BAD) TRANSLATION
Now i have an AX1500G, but for 3 years i had a Boss GT3 (unfortunately was stolen), a great unit. I think AX1500G also could be great but there are a pair of little defects: 1-there are only 5 effect banks, so you can't use more than 5 effects at once (6 if you consider the "echo+reverb" effect). Moreover many effects (like wah pedal) exclude others effects of differents banks. This is not a big defect cause anyway you can find your right combination of sounds, but the GT3 was certainly better. 2-there is a little delay when you switch program... If you, like me, change a lot of programs when you play a song could be a little problem: be fast and careful! If we don?t consider these two things, the AX1500G could be a good choice: there are many quality distorsions (from tube overdrive to metal distortion), that you can combine with many cabinet simulations to obtain a wide range of sounds. Very interesting is the possibility of recording up to 8 seconds (more seconds could be not a bad idea...) with the Sample & Play function. So...if you don?t need a lot of effects that probably yuo?ll never use (i have used all the GT3?s effects, but i?m a special case...), if you can tolerate the little defects, if you can?t spend a lot of money to buy GT6 or similar, this unit is a valid alternative.

It may not the pedal of choice for the death metal crowd, but there are OD, 90s grunge and high gain options - Anyway - The presets are good and tweaking them to the desired sound is really easy and it works great - especially modeling the amp on top of the other variables. If you think you need to switch between AC30, BF, MESA variables and go from a nice LZ acoustic to Petty to grunge effect or driven LP sound - it's just great. And the effects have a rich uniform sound, the the digital mess you hear on Boss effects. If you like the idea but found Boss mFx, Zoom, etc. to be lacking - try this one.

I play modern rock, classics and some grunge & severe hi gain. I'm fussy about tone, play Fenders w/high end SC and HB pups on a JC120 or Riveras. This is the only pedal system I can use, it enhances not detracts from my sound. A good choice if your history is vintage pedals.

This is were the AX1500 shines. The distortions are amazing, more than 3/4 of them are usable. I play metal and there are 5 distoritons that are great for that. The wah is ok, but you can't adjust anything on it. All of the mod. effects are better than avrage.

I checked korg.com and i read about this effect... "Sounds like a legend" => Hetfield and Hammett like to switch between clean and dirty amp sounds. A/Channel, set to a classic clean compressor sound and B/Channel, set to a heavy metal distortion sound, will help you achieve the kind of sounds they do on songs like ?Enter Sandman? and ?Master of Puppets.?
And there was something about Dimebag darrel... I didn't get Hammet,or Dimebag sound on it! (i use line 6 amplifier) And you guys write here that this is really good effect, you can get really good rock/metal sounds on it.NO YOU CAN'T! And that so called "metal distorsion".. it's something horrible, like all others!!! Well, clean sounds are Ok,but heavy/metal players,DON'T BUY THIS EFFECT!!! Im very disanpointted to distorsions, and whole thing! Cabinet simulators you can forget... So,good thing about this are: Easy to use, clean sounds and you can BYPASS IT!!!! It really sucks!!!

This is the easiest multi-effectunit I have ever used before.
Editing patches is very simple, for every effect you can tweak the same knobs, every time with another value. It includes a expression pedal too. But only usable for volume, the wah sucks big time!

I use a Ibanez Artcore AM73T, Patrick Eggle Berlin Plus, Epiphone Gibson '61 reissue SG through a Dunlop Hendrix Wah that runs through the Korg and than to my London City DEA130 MK5 with 4x Celestion Greenbacks. I do not use the clean effects nor do I use the speakersimulations (they suck!) If I play clean, I just bypass it.
I mostly use the Seattle distortion wich is the most usable.
Suckers who scoop their mids and create a puking Hewlett Packard like-sound won't like this distortion. If you dial in enough mid and bass to not disappear in the mix if you're playing with others and just dial in enough treble to not make you sound like a dying crow, than you're ready for action! The chorus effect is really good, it sounds really bright and clear. The Phaser and pitchshifter are also good, but I just don't use them, the more effects you use the worser your tone gets! The Plate & spring reverbs sound very naturel and useable, but the ping pong delay kicks it all it sounds just as good as my Boss DD-5. About the overdrives...The Tube OD is awsome! Great sustain
for a real bluesy sound, as far as the distortion goes, the Seattle and the Tube OD are the only two wich sound real good, the rest sucks BIG TIME!

Not to terribly hard to use you'll find yourself in individual mode most often since in Play Mode(user/preset patches) you cant toggle the effects on and off, which to me seems like a big drawback. And its really frustrating that you cant access the tuner in indiv. mode. This unit is very nice for silent practice with its headphone jack. And the patches are easily edited.

I have a Gibson LP and a Marshall AVT275 amp. There is only 3 drive amps that sound good US High Gain, Tube OD, CL Comp. The others just dont sound good, at least on my stuff. I am able to use the cabs on my amp with no problem(some had problems with this). The modulation effects are pretty decent, but the pedal effects that use the expression pedal are sad imho(the talk being the best), like others have said. I am satisfied with the ambience effects. One time I was picking up the radio with this thing, not good.

This is about as easy to use an anything with this much capability. There are lots of knobs and dials to make adjustments more easily than with menus. You can use footswitches to selct patches or to turn effects on and off and and A/B channel switch lets you switch between clean and dirty, or acoustic and electric in the same patch.
Improvements would be a bank down switch (you have to press two switches at once) and a MIDI or USB connection to a computer to dump patches (although patch editing is easy). Bo on-off switch is a pain.

I use a lot of different guitars and small tube or solid state amps,I don't use a lot of effects, so I don't really know how good the emulations of various famous effects (Rat, Uni-Vibe, Mu-Tron, etc) are. The amp models are good. I like the ones in the Johnson J-Station slightly better, but I can pretty much get the types of sounds I use (usually overdriven or AC30 type sounds) oretty easily. It also handles high gain quite well, A lot of the presets have heavier distortions. One big mistake which Korg always makes is to trrat compression as am amp model rather than as an effect, so it is rarely available, I like the tremolo and the auto-wah, which are the effects I use most often, and I like having the ring modularor around to make weird noises. The acoustic simulator is good enough to save carrying an extra guitar for one "acoustic" song in an otherwise electric set.

Some have compared this to the Boss GT series. I have owned a GT-3, and, while the Boss has a lot more features, I actually find the AX1500G more useful for live use. The A/B channel switch means that you can BOTH change from a lead to rhythm sound within a song AND turn effects on and off, not one or the other. Very useful.
What it needs - an on/off switch, and compression separate from amp modeling. A computer connection would be nice. I assume that the recent price drop means that there's a new model coming.

The two biggest differences between this unit and the Boss GT-6 have got to be 1) the Korg ax1500g is much easier to use, 2) Korg effects are cleaner than Boss effects. I'll admit to be overwhelmed by the GT-6, I was always tweaking those menus and hated all those little buttons, rotary dial, and endless banks of effects that sounded the same. I'm sure those who are really into all the parameters & tweaks available in the GT-6 love them - but not me. The Korg uses some digital menus, some chicken head switches. Overall, it's far more intuitive for me.
Sound Quality
:

Sound is a matter of taste, and I like the airiness and absence of digital decay of the Korg equipment. I'm playing Gibsons & Fenders, everything but shred. You'll find useable presets out of the box and tweaking is pretty easy. The Korg unit isn't quite as distortion-option crazy as the Boss unit. Simply, the Korg effects sound better to me. With the GT-6, I never seemed entirely satisfied after investing a lot of time, and I could hear a phony sounding digital signature in almost every preset I came up with. With both, the better amp choice has been a bigger 100w tube rig, they don't sound very impressive through a practice rig/small venue rig. The GT-6 was particularly bad through SS amps. I haven't had a hiss problem with either unit. Overall, not a match with all rigs and all venues.

It only took a few minutes to figure out how to tweak the FX, because of the unit's knob based interface and well lit descriptive LCD screen. Compared to some of the Digitech unit's hierogliphics, the AX1500 is a joy to operate.

I play a Fender Texas Fat Strat w/ a duncan in the bridge and a Gibson Les Paul.
I've been using the AX1500 in 2 applications: First for my live rig into a Marshall AVT50 (I run the clean channel with a tad of break up, just like a plexi). Second I tweaked a couple banks for direct recording, this also ends up being my favorite way to practice.
The AX1500 has a nice variety of effects I've found fat smooth distortions with the Brit Stack, molten-magma w/ Metal Dist and the Classic Comp cleans up my amp and makes the notes blossom or not. The Top Boost OD is the bread and butter of my direct application. The modulation effects sound true to the originals my faves Mod Delay, Chorus, Flange, Filtron, U-Vibe and Talk. I don't have a talent for the Ring Mod, but it sounds like a decent quality FX.
I have an original band that plays sort of a Charlie Hunter, Little Feat, ZZ Top meets Joe Satrianni type vibe, then I play in a classic rock cover band and do pick up gigs. I like Foo Fighters, Audioslave and Santana.

I've had real good luck with this unit. I love gear but lack the time and discipline to haul 3 cabs, rack, heads, pedal board and midi controller. This is a fine proccessor, Korg makes good stuff. I tried out Digitech's RP & GNX series (no soul, very grainy sound), Boss' GT-6 (ok, but excessive bulk, harder to operate and more $).
I wish it had 10 F/S buttons... but I like it's size.
I wish there was a port to back up program data... but I like it's price.
I hope it doesn't get stolen.
The great thing about a proccessor like this is an introduction to effects I've never played before, very nice to keep your playing fresh and vital.

I use it with my fender with a dimarzio breed in neck and seymour duncan dimebucker in bridge stock single coil in middle very good combination by the way!! Sometimes i hear a little noise but maybe it's from the stock pickup but it's ok coz i play pretty loud i need some ambience of noise to keep it pretty real. I use it with my Evans L-2 musical amp with 10 inch speaker very loud! The distortions and drives are all in here. pretty much on the rock/metal side, i dont use overdrives that much but it's pretty useful at bluesy stuffs. Effects are useful but limited in a way that some of them arent in the right blocks like tap delay and hold delay in the pedal section..etc But still the best out there, i compared it to GT-6 and boss is too much for me, its too complicated in a way you have to edit many things eventhough it has ez edit i think it pretty much sucks coz you to dial many things to get things right and it doesnt have two channel preamp so eventhough you have lots of choices of pretty good amp models you cant choose two channels so it sucks not like the digitech gnx2 that i also tried, that thing is second to this unit but the programability of that is also quite complicated but helpful in a way. So, i'll stick with my AX1500G it's like in betwwen BOSS and DIGITECH not compared to ZOOM their products are cheap so buying that will be the worst you could have done.

The effects are good, and very useful, pretty easy to tweak (would be better if I knew what I was doing with their settings, but I suppose I'll get it over time)...even formerly useless things like the "Ring Modulator" are made better by being able to use the Expression pedal with it.
Distortions are so/so...but I havent devoted much time to tweaking them, so I think there may be some hope. Right now, at the factory settings, some of them seem simply too fake or brittle to be realistic (MOST especially the "Seattle" setting). Turning the gain down helps this on some distortions though.
I started out playing this through a stereo (out of curiousity...) and the cab simulators didnt make it sound particularly good, as it was supposed to in this situation, but I haven't tried tweaking those either. I usually just keep it off.
Acoustic simulator at best sounds like miking an unplugged electric guitar. Ive heard better on the Zoom 505...but it makes a decent alternative to the Comp setting as far as clean channels go. I don't think any other clean models would be necessary.
Sample and play functions are useless (at least to me). Would've been better off putting something ridiculous like a Sitar sim in it's place. Also, the pitch bend makes the guitar sound completely digital, and always reminds me of the organ at the beginning of "Centerfold." That isn't a good thing.
Only several of the presets are useful...most will just find you saying "wow, that's pretty cool, but how the hell will I ever use that?" and then writing your own patch over it.

This pedal seems to be well worth what I paid. I dont find myself completely screwing around with tons of effects and the settings, I actually find myself playing songs (unlike when using other multi-fx devices). I needed something to rekindle a waning interest in guitar, and this seems to have done it.
I cover a lot of ground in what I play...this seems to have the bases covered, and what this doesn't cover, my amp gain will (so Im not concerned).
Too early to tell what I'd do (short of beat the thief up) if it were stolen.
I shopped around a bit but didn't really play much else. I tested this several times, and, coupled with nothing but an amazing amount of positive reviews, decided to buy it.
I use it in "individual" mode more than "patch" mode. Patch mode is very limited in what it could do (you can have two channels, but effects apply to both) whereas you can turn things on and off in individual mode. Granted, none of your settings will be saved, but you can save them in a patch I suppose.
Speaking of patches, I dont know where the 48 user slots are. I read the manual, and it mentioned it, but never actually said what they were. I'd like to save some patches, but right now I can only overwrite. I am a newbie with this though, so it'll probably show up over time.
Overall, a very useful (rare for something of this nature) pedal that has helped me gain interest in guitar again. Easy to learn, and even easier to get a good sound if you know your way around effects...very price effective as well, and worth the countless stompboxes it would take to equal its models.

Well, I have some top units like VG-88v2 or G-major and these perhaps sound slightly better BUT are les friendly to your all tube amp, less user friendly, and more expensive.
As a multi-effects box-in-front-of-your-tube-amp this is THE choice that I use when I am laizy to carry my Valvulator and all the boutique pedals like Fulldrive II and H2O etc ...
For ecording there are better choices but I chose this for stage and live gigs and the sound is just great and I can easily get what I need; on top you have these two distortion options per patch and even BYPASS - just perfect for my jazz shows ...

I am very happy with 1500G and have sold my POD2.3, J-station, my DG-stomp ... as it gives me quite a range of useful tones in a portable package so I can use it as in my band's jazz gigs.
I easily get my 4 main sounds: clean jazz, crunchy emotional blues, overdriven singing lead and funky silky rhythms ...
Metal patches are useless for me, but most others with reduced presence and treble are quite usable with my top guitars ...
I doubt that ME-50 is better or friendlier, namely 1500G has everything you can possibly want - for live stage work.
(I do NOT use my VG-88 on stage as it's too complex!)

I've own this quite long, so I think it's time to share my opinion.
This unit is very easy to use and it sounds great too!
You can connect it to an audio amplifier, guitar amp or other...
Here's a little advise: NEVER USE THE CABINETSIMULATION DURING USE WITH A GUITAR AMP! If you do you'll probably think you bought a HP printer. The sound gets digital and fake.
Although it sounds pretty good on other kinds of amps.

OK, I use a Patrick Eggle Berlin (yeah, that's a real guitar, no crappy shit like Ibanez) into a jimi hendrix wah, into the AX1500, into a London City DEA130 (that's real POWER!)with 4 Celestion Greenback speakers. Now, listen at first I thought this unit only sounds great on smaller guitar amps. Like I said, when you turn the cabinetsimulation off, it's another story. I normally swear at all tube sounds, but I use this unit only for high gain distortion and lead sounds and for clean chorus sounds. I practically only use the ping pong delays (FANTASTIC), the chorus, reverbs, distortion and the expression pedal for volume (don't ever use it's wah because it sucks! get a real wah!)Well some say you can always hear it's digital.
There're probably right but not on this one! If you use an all tube guitar amp, your sounds goes through enough tubes to get it sound real. Don not use the overdrives because they suck too. If you want a good overdrive, buy a RAT. the noise reduction is useable but at high settings it cuts your tone dramatically, so if your amp squeals like a pig it's probably your crappy guitar.

Hey there, well, I got my AX1500G about two weeks ago, and I thing I am able to write a full review of it by now.
As previously stated, one of the best features of the AX1500G is the easy of use. Everything is placed where you expect it to be, its so logical that after a while, you just automatically head to the specific knob / value you need to adjust almost not thinking about it.
I've always been a stompbox kind of guy, so to me this was a big change. My previous FX setup was rather simple, a Jim Dunlop Wah, an Ibanez TK999 "Tube King", Ibanez TS9 and Boss DD3 Digital Delay. I was a bit worried about the overwhelming possibilities of a pedalboard because I hate being stuck 2 hours fine tuning my sound.
The reason why I "switched" to a pedalboard is because I needed flexibility. Just thinking of setting all my effects chain, checking batteries and stuff was enough for not to even start playing. Also, in terms of value, I've been lacking some effects I really want for ages, so this was the best way to get a good "package" including reverbs, tremolo, chorus, etc.
Small amount of parameters to adjust (depending the effect you are adjusting) help dialing patches in to be a breeze, while the responsiveness of them make up for the seemingly lack of editing options.
The manual was of good use for me, a rookie when it comes to pedalboards.

Im playing a Fender Telecaster (stock neck PU, and SD Vintage Stack bridge PU) through the AX1500G, to a Blackface Fender Bandmaster (circa '64).
FXs bypassed, the sound seems pretty the same as when pluggin it directly. No additional hum here or perceivable sound degradation.
The "Drive" and "Cabinet" blocks help you shape your starting sound, ranging from an acoustic simulator to VERY high gain settings. First thing that impressed me about this unit was this, the versatility and number of "hot spots" when going from clean to high gain settings. There are a LOT of well known artits in here, are very usable distortions from a slightly compressed sound (pseudo realistic tube rendering) to a nice heavy Mesa Boogie sound, with some raw rock in the middle.
Despite what other users say, Im quite please with the Vox Wah... it doesn't have my Crybaby's feel, but it does the job. I was able to play Joe Satriani's "Love Thing" with a really decent sounding patch.
I dont use cabinets much, but they will be useful when recording with my PC. I've tried this using Sonic Foundry's Vegas 4.0 (plugin the guitar to the AX1500G and the pedalboard directly to the PC) and the results where quite amazing and real fast to achieve.
The effects are good overall, the ones I liked the most are the chorus the "textrem" (tremolo), and the reverbs and plates.
One thing I dislike some (being the "old electronics lover" I am, is that sometimes, you can almost hear the bits and bytes sounding out from the speakers when you pluck a note and mute the guitar after it. It doesn't happen with every effect, or in every situation. Its just a random thing that seems to produce a very odd, metallic kind of trail.
Watch it on hi-gain settings without a humbucker pickup too! It can get really noisy, and even though the noise reduction levels work wonders, they can really cut your tone (I try to avoid em).
All in all, and for 249 USD, its way more than I even expected. For the price I would get 2 stompboxes, I now have a full set of more than decent sounding reverbs, delays, choruses, tremolo, flanger, unlimited distortion/overdrive possibilities, etc...
In fact, Im thinking of getting rid of 80% of the stompboxes I used to use, since I dont really need em now. I might even get those 250 USD back with that :o)

It seems really reliable. First of all, its fully digital so no moving parts, servos and stuff. Only the switches and knobs seem a bit fragile. If any, Im a bit concerned on the digital knobs... if something hitted them strongly enough I don't know how well they could handle it.
The units metal case make it really heavy for the size which I kinda like. The less plastic, the better.
Yet, its still too early to provide comments about this point

I remember when I started playing and saw some entry pedalboards friend bought (Digitechs and Bosses), they sounded so digital, they ruined my blackface sound printing their own sound signatures to it. Distortions were crappy as hell, and not to mention wahs...
I play mostly pop rock, but like a different array of musicians from diverse styles. Satriani, King Crimson, pearl jam, blind melon, alice in chains, U2, Coldplay, Brad, Piazzolla, etc...
I've been playing for 8 years and during the las 6 I've been hunting down as much equipment as my wallet could afford (which is not really much). I own 3 amps (Fender Bandmaster with 2x12 cab, Laney AC30, Peavey Rage 158), a Fender American Standard Telecaster and various distortion stompboxes, vintage MXR compressor, Boss DD3 delay and JD Wah wah. Overall, my new aquisition is the best "bang-for-the-buck" item Ive bought, so Im really happy with it.
Its very simple yet powerful tool, and thats just what I was looking for. I bet the BOSS GT6 must be better, but I really needed to keep it simple. The more I've complicated myself within this last years in terms of my rig, the less I've wanted to actually play my guitar.

I usually use the AX1500G with a fender USA startocaster and a 100watt fender frontman amp and the sound quality is superb. I wasn't very impressed with the VOX wah but hey i didn't expect a great wah on it anyway. I usually go for a nirvana sound on my AX1500G and i can get it easily. the unit is capable of gettin basically ranging from acoustic to hardcore metal. the metal effect is great

i use a squier strat, and a shitty 15watt drive amp, and it can make even that crap setup sound pretty darn good.
i play anything from punk to metal, and i love the distortion and cabinet models on this. i have got some awesome user patches for metallica, NOFX, mudvayne, tool- though the presets are aweful.
if your playing on high distortion there can be some feedback, but not a significant amount.
ive never had a wah pedal before, so this one (at least to me) doesn't seem all that bad- you can kind of fudge your way through stuff.

If it were stolen i would hunt the fucker down and stab him in the eye with my whammy bar until it made its way into his frontal lobe, dropping the thieving prick dead.
I never actually played on the much acclaimed GT6 as it was far to expensive for me ( i think it was somewhere in the market of $1400) so i cant compare the two, but this shits all over the Zoom 707II hard.

This is probably the product's greatest technical strength compared to its closest challengers. Once you know what kind of sound you are after, you can easily get it ouf the Korg unit in a minute or two -- literally. For example, yesterday I wanted a very close approximation of the rhythm guitar sound on Metallica's Master of Puppets album: it took me less than a minute to produce it. (So of course it was not *exactly* the same, but it was definitely close enough to fool most people.)
I have one complaint, though. Because there is no proper panel lighting, the unit is somewhat awkward to operate when there is not enough light to see the texts.
Sound Quality
:

And this is where the unit is at a disadvantage compared to its challengers. It can be somewhat noisy with some distortion settings, but that is really a minor issue -- unless you like to loop it with other effects (compressor, EQ, etc.) as I do. In that case you will probably HAVE to use a noise gate.
The various distorted sound + cabinet combinations are a heaven for someone who likes to play metal. You can get practically any metal sound from old school metal to thrash to power metal to nu-metal. So far so good.
However, you should be aware that there are certain hard restrictions on what effects go with which effects and can be used together. For example, if to activate the wah effect, you have to sacrifice all modulation effects (such as Flanger, Chorus, Phaser). Also, only one effect from a given block can be used simultaneously (no Flanger+Phaser combo, or Distortion+Compressor combo). For some guitarists (who would rather freely choose which effect combinations to use) this will be a significant issue.
You should also be aware that some of the effects are not quite top-notch quality. So maybe I was not expecting a cry-baby wah in a budget unit such as this, but I must say that the vox wah of this unit is next to useless. The traveller wah is better but still rather artificial-sounding. Then there are effects that are let down by insufficient controls (the vox wah of AX1500G, by the way, has NO user-modifiable parameters) -- which prevents you from utilising them to full extent.
Without the afore-mentioned restrictions, AX1500G would have been highly competitive even against the more pro-level effects processors. As for the quality of its sound, it does sound a bit "produced", but is not significantly worse in this respect than most other units.
I have used the unit with various Fender and Ibanez strato models, w/ tube and solid-state Marshall amps.

No malfunctions yet, and the design seems very sturdy.
I once accidentally dropped the unit from a considerable height (enough to shatter a normal unit), but showed absolutely no signs of any damage.
I am, however, slightly suspicious about the durability of the plastic program switching pedals.

All in all, I would consider this a "bang-for-the-buck" product. Sure, head-to-head Boss GT6 outperforms this unit in almost any area; but a brand-new GT6 would have cost me almost twice as much as this unit. The inexpensive price and the ease-of-use are the greatest advantages of the unit; the lack of versatility and customizability its greatest disadvantage. At its current price, the unit gives you dozens more effects than you would get by buying the effects (or just half of them) separately -- even if you limit your evaluation only to the really useful effects. And even the "useless" effects (such as the much-maligned Ring Mod) can be useful for unusual and creative fills.
If I lost this unit, I would probably buy a new one. Or, if I had the extra ??? (that I currently don't), I would probably give GT6 a go.
I play anything from blues to metal; I also play in a (classical) symphony orchestra. I have been playing the guitar since 1985.

If you've owned or used a Korg Pandora this piece of kit will be relatively easy to come to terms with as it's almost like a big brother.
Getting a wide variety of preset sounds out of the system is very simple. Just plug in and stomp on the bank/channel switches.
Storing your own patches is an easy process. Writing the patches is not complicated, it simply requires an eye/ear for detail and a degree of thoroughness. Whilst the manual is pretty comprehensive, it would have been a much more useful support for writing new patches if the numeric parameters of the pre-sets had been included, and not just the type of effect used (the AG100x had this). On the ergonomic side, a little more room between stomp buttons would be appreciated (on a dazrk stage it can sometimes be a bit of hit and miss if you're not careful)
A little more travel on the pedal would make the unit better for fully controlled violining effects.
The only negative comment is that a large number of the presets are distorted rock sounds - A bit more thought could have produced a wider range of presets.

My primary amp is a Laney 50W Linebacker, fine for small halls and clubs. My 1962 Gibson ES175D is used for jazz (12 to 52, wound G). The variety of warm sounds available pleases me.The opportunity to radically switch sounds can produce some interesting surprises at times.
My Charvel 4 carries 10-48 strings (wound G again). Used primarily for rock, fusion or pop. The combination of active electronics on the guitar, plus the wide effects range has allowed me to mimic in a very reliable way a whole range of familiar and recognisable sounds. The only weak sound effect for me is the "acoustic" simulator, but my Martin JM solves that problem.
Overall, a good range of sounds and not too much noise (what do you expect for 300 dollars?).

Given the wide variety of styles I play (Jazz standards, fusion, folk, rock, pop ....) the tool is a godsend. It saves me having a whole range of stomp effects in series. In terms of cost, it is the only outstanding product in the price range (Boss is good but more expensive). I would definitely buy another one if it were stolen or lost. A great extra, would be some type of interface to a pc (or handheld) - maybe a USB port- that could be used to cross-load patches without having to spend several minutes doing it by hand.

I was into Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer on my younger years, but now shifted into rock guitar instrumentals, and yes its a good match alright. I have been playing for over 10 years now. As for gears, I still have some stompboxes left and an old Zoom3030. I cant remember the others I used to have, its either I sold them, gave them away or just simply thrash 'em.
If it was stolen, will I buy it again?Depends on how much money I have on the time it is stolen, the POD's and footswitch and GNX3/footswitch/Smartmedia card costs too much at this time and I'd still opt to buy another AX1500G.
Wishlist:
1) More time to record tracks(at least 20 secs), but probably would entail smartmedia cards too :(
2) more connections to other devices(i.e. midi, PC USB, optical cable connection)
If it had these two features plus the reasonable price, who needs PODs and GNX's? But oeverall, its a great product.

I was looking for a unit that, firstly, would provide totally clean unaltered guitar signal to my already good sounding amps, voiced for the front end of a guitar amp, not a mixer.
The editing had to be easy- editing with a band or an audience waiting while you tweak something that just HAS to be fixed is always a drag. Stomp boxes with upfront knobs rule in this category.
This unit is reasonable, intuitive and gives quick access to the most important parameters. It does not permit the micro-editing you find in some rack-mount gear. I have an ART SGX 2000 preamp from a few years ago that was supposed to be my tone salvation but it is just too complicated for a casual player like me. 14 push-buttons and 2 pedals on the foot controller 10 knobs, 18 buttons and 2 sliders on the front plus the back panel etc. to set up gives me option overload. That has become a studio device which is quite good for direct recording and I can tweak it siting down.
The distortions must be full range and as fizz-free as possible.
The modulation effects need only be OK and non-intrusive for my more classic-rock tastes.
It loses acouple of points due to limited EQ-the cab swapping readjustmnet, amp swap- readjust makes fine tuning hard.
Sound Quality
:
8
First, clean sounds are good. I cannot hear any tonal alteration in my guitar signal if I carefully choose and set up my patch unless I program it in. A couple of the factory patches are quite clean in this respect. I absolutely do not understand the criticism of the Korg for poor clean sounds IF your amp is good; try the Summer patch and work from there.
If you don't like your clean amp sound to start with you may not be able to fix it with the Korg, though, because the EQ is rather restricted and the amp simulation direct to mixer are OK after tweaking but lack something. The spkr sims must be used in all modes to achieve a wider range of tonal alteration.
Noisy? Not bad, but it really does hiss all the time. Not enough to force me to use the noise gate because I just don't trust gates to not cut more than noise, so I put up with it.
Distortions can be quite neutral and the transition from clean to is dirty better that most stompboxes and some real amps. I can pretty well clone my TS10 plus add to its range and EQ. Cool. This is why I use one of these things.
There is also a variety of other distortion tones that are a bit buzzy for me but some of them seem to be based on a similar basic sound with a different gain level and EQ curve added in. You can then alter the gain and EQ with the amp and speaker controls to produce some sounds that you may like. My dream lead tone, smooth and sustainy, full but articulate (think David Lindley's lap steel in Running On Empty) is NOT here. I also still use my TS10 into the Korg for quick boosts and it sounds pretty good into lightly distorted settings.
The chorus is good, rvb is OK ( metallic tails), the volume pedal is transparent-sounding but short on throw.
The wah is near useless- hyperactive with a big sonic spike in the middle of the range - no adjustment-disappointing.
The compessor is not adjustable and fortunately does nothing at the minimal setting 'cause it is too poppy as you turn it up.
The other effects don't much matter to me.
I had a good chance to compare this, though not A/B, with a Digitech RP14d and rejected the RP on the basis of its distortions. On the RP the clean models will not distort and the dirty models will not clean up. Furthermore, their stack models sound like a wet blanket is over your amp. However, the player interface is terrific on that unit i.e. more buttons and set up like a series of stompboxes plus global volume and presence knobs.
Also, the Korg distorts more smoothly than a DG Stomp.
Compared to the AX1000g- different button layout is slightly less versatile, more importantly, the clean sounds on the older unit I tried were of too low a level to meet my requirements of transparency. The compressor was non-defeatable, if engaged at all, and always colored the guitar signal attack. Off, the level was too low; I could not find a perfect bypass sound. The distortions may have been a little more compressed and a little less fuzzy (both are good things to me). These products are similar but not sonically interchangeable.
At near twice the price around here, the Boss gt6 was not considered.

Inside the nice metal casing is average but OK components, the switch butons on the PCB are mighty dinky so don't jump on it. There's some sort of recessed trimmer pot accessible through the back panel. Korg did not respond to my email about its function.
Am planning to use for gigging, only for band practice so far. The band is slowly developing-sure is hard to get 4 people to the same place at the same time. The sounds do cut through the mix BTW.

Overall sound quality is good, maybe not as good as carefully chosen stompers but way more versatile. I'd like to compare it to some of the revered booteeky boxes cause I think the prices of a lot of stuff has become too high and this unit offers huge bang for the buck. (HOW does a fuzzbox warrant a $300+ price tag when a pretty good little amp with distortion is available for less?????)
I've dabbled in guitar and band stuff for a long time, have more gear than I can use but this little box is IN for a while at least.
Maybe the front end of a Korg/Vox Valvetronix in pedal form would be a tempting upgrade......
Also, when you adjust your sounds try to have a similar proven gear setup to A/B your tone so you don't tweak the perfect bedroom tone into your stage sound.
