I bought this pedal roughly 10 years ago, i recently brought it back home since it's been sitting in a friends basement for a few years. Guitar multi fx's have come a long way since this one came out so I'm trying to review this pedal in the light of what's available today.

Editing is fairly straightforward once you get the hang of it, however it's not as hands on as units with knobs to twiddle. The selection of parameters to edit could be better though, most algorithms only have one tweakable parameter. For example delay feedback is a fixed parameter and only time and level can be edited.

The expression pedal is a nice addition and can be used to control a fair number of effects, not just wah and pitchshift but also phaser and tremolo rate. On the downside, the travel of the expression pedal is way to short, it's still usable however but a longer travel would go a long way towards making is a more usable pedal.

Sound Quality : 7
It actually has a fairly exhaustive range of effects and algorithms. Including some more exotic ones like pitchshifters, ringmod, drones, s/h filter and primitive looping abilities.

There is a slight background hiss on my unit, not incredibly important but loud enough to be noticeable. I'm running mine in a true bypass loop to get rid of the noise when I'm not using it.

Distortions are absolutely horrible. Stay away from them. Particularly in a band setting, they can be tweaked to sound ok for bedroom playing but in a rehearsal room they're useless. Absolutely no definition that cuts through the mix, just sounds like white noise.

The eq is ok I think, I haven't used it too much.

Modulation effects are actually really nice, smooth and spacious phasers and choruses, not that full of character but nice sounding. I compared the phasers in the AX1G to a Phase 90 clone and they certainly hold up well soundwise.

Pedal effects are somewhat mixed, wah is decent but the short travel of the exp. pedal is somewhat limiting. Ringmodulation is freaking awesome, considering how inexpensive they are today the ringmod alone it worth the price.

Pitchshifters are ok, it's not a whammy though. And the looping and sampling effects are a little hard to use and suffer from rather short sampling times, a few seconds at most.

Delays and reverbs are again ok but nothing spectacular. The delay where you can change delay time using the expression pedal is cool and can make some weird noises.

Reliability : 8
It's plastic but seem to be well built. I've had it for 10 years and gigged with it and put it through a fair amount of use and it has never crapped out on me.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 7
I'm still using this together with a bunch of other pedal on my board. It makes a nice addition as a decent wah, tuner and good modulation effects. It certainly takes up a whole lot less space than if I were to replace it with individual pedals.

Positive sides: good value for money today, great modulation effects, decent timebased effects and some weird stuff (ringmod, step filter etc.)

On the negative side: Bad drive effects, a bit noisy and the travel on the expression pedal is too short.

Not too bad. Editimg is a bit of a pain. Def need to peek at the maual. Getting to the built in tuner is a pain on mine as the patch buttons have minds of their own. You end up going up a patch, then down, then up then maybe they'll register a simultaneous hit and open the tuner!!

Sound Quality : 8
Rather good. I stick it between an epy LP and a Vox pathfinder and it does well. The distortions are nothing to write home about but the other stuffs pretty darn good (if a bit limited sometimes)It surprised a friend of mine whos a music teacher who thought i was using some fancy acoustic guitar sim while doing some mellow stuff and was shocked i got such a good sound out of "that thing"

Reliability : 7
Had it years. Been to hell and back and apart from the cosmetic dinks it works like a dream (apart from that darn tuner!!)

I mess about with just about every style there is and it has something for every one. Very good value. Am thinking of getting a new unit but will always keep the AX laying around.

Plug it in and start pushing buttons! The factory presets are as easy as making mud, customizing requires a few minutes of (ugh!) reading the manual.

Sound Quality : 7
I've used this with a Gibson sonex-180 and a Ibanez sa160. It definitely likes singles over humbuckers IMHO, as you start to get some weird fuzz on the HBs.

Is it gig quality? Not unless you're gigging in a pretty small place. It's perfectly adequate for practice and as a backup, but you're not going to replace your pedal board with this.

Reliability : 10
So far, so good. It feels lightweight and plastic, but I've dropped it and have put my whole 250lbs on the expression pedal! So, I guess I need to say it's pretty solid!

I like playing a variety of stuff, and this one unit allows me to do that. Where this comes into its own is on the road. I can run it off batteries, connect headphones, and be totally portable. Hotel, boat, car, wherever!

If you see one for a decent price, you'll probably find it fun and useful.

Use of pedal effects is easy and simple and the colour coded lights (green, orange and red) divide the effects into three sets of 10 allowing you to know where you are in relation to other effects. Editing the patches is quite tricky and you need to really follow the manual as you can get lost within the menus.

Sound Quality : 8
Sound quality is good, good range of effects and the pressure pedal works nicely with wah, volume and phaser effects. Overdrive and distortion effects are nice but i prefer to use the settings on my marshall amp for overdrive and distortion.

If one just uses the preset than it is pretty easy, but if you want to change the patches than you'll have to resort to the manual (available at the korg website). Relatively speaking, changing patches isn't really that hard.

Sound Quality : 7
The reason that someone will use a multi-effects unit is not for sound quality, but for convenience. It's obviously easier to tote around one pedal than 6 or 7 pedals with a board and wires. The downside is that there will have to be some compromise in sound quality.
The setup that I use this pedal for is for my church rig. I use a myriad of different guitars through a simple GK single speaker amp. I can carry everything from my car to the platform where we play in one trip. With just the ax-1, I'm set up in about 3 minutes.
The patches that I use are the more atmospheric patches (violin is an especially good patch) that can facilitat volume swells. Other that that, I've just programmed a couple of cleaner sounds that use the processor's reverbs and compressions, neither of which are great, but good enough in a musical setting where the guitar won't be out front.

Reliability : 9
Never had a problem after using for about 5 years (and since it was purchased used, who knows how long before that). It's only plastic which seems to me a bit iffy, but it's held up being dragged in and out of my bag 2-4 times a week for those 5 years.

NA

Overall Rating : 8
For what it does, it's extremely serviceable. Again, it's not for any one great effect but more for a convenient smattering of many different decent effects.

Easy to set up and get started.
The manual was fine for the basics but when it came to editing, I was lost and gone.
However I need to add that I have to get my teenage son to sort out my mobile phone, so I think it's a generation/application thing.

Sound Quality : 7
I use a tele or strat through a Vox AC30 or a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I bought the unit about 4 years ago because I'd joined a bar band after a 10 year layoff and needed to add some new colours to the dry sounds I have (and am happy with).
Plus I needed an onstage tuner that was hands-free and offered a mute function. I don't use any other pedals.
The unit has dozens of pre-set sounds which I have no use for - I'm very old school - so maybe it's more than I needed in the first place.
I use a handful of the pre-sets (2 wahs, one distortion, a chorus, a tremolo, a 'Stevie Ray' sound, or a plain bright - one sound per song) or bypass it altogether.
I haven't noticed any extraneous noise from it. I'd like it if there was more range/depth in the wahs and the tremolo.

Reliability : 7
In 4 years playing on stage in pubs and clubs never had a real problem.
It's plastic, but I look after all my gear and keep it away from trouble and drunks.
However I'm on my second 9volt power unit simply because the crappy power leads short out from flexing. I think the unit should have an AC power lead. I would never use batteries.
A couple of times I've hit the wrong button (because I don't know how to edit it - duh - it's still factory set up) while changing banks onstage and in the dark I haven't been able to work out how to undo what I've done! The unit is probably for someone a little more sophisticated than me.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had a need

Overall Rating : 7
Been playing for 30 years, I love the tough, clean sounds I get through my guitar/amp combinations and only bought the Korg because I needed some variety for the band i'd joined. Whenever I play my Gibson ES-135 semi I bypass the unit because it's not at all compatible.
I play in an acoustic outfit too and use the Korg as an onstage tuner and just bypass it - expensive tuner, I guess.
I've noticed other people complaining about the quality of the sounds - I'm happy with the sounds I use and don't bother with the rest. Pub crowds aren't that fussy. The Korg does what I need it to do, but I'm not emotionally attached to it. Now my Vox - that's a different story!
I didn't try any other pedals - my Godson had one and it looked like an easy and affordable way to expand my sound palette without taking up any footspace! If mine disappeared I'd just run dry until I could find a used one, or maybe I'd see what else has been invented in the last ten years! There's always something new to make you go Wow!

No knobs to turn whatsoever - hard to get used to. But workable. I always hated to have to program a patch and was glad when I was done. Esp. the EQ sucks and totally unusable. To change patches you can easily miss. It feels like a toy. Cant use it live since it changes patches not on time! For home use its ok I guess. What I definitely liked about it: Runs also with batteries. Used it on trains and buses on vacations. Low budget equipment...

Sound Quality : 5
The distortions are decent, overdrives fail completely. Nice phasers. Forget loops etc. One prepatch was the one called "SPACED". This one rules! The delays and reverbs are crap. Use it with headphones its a little better...

It held up so far, dont use it too often though...

Kind of a metal machine. Good enough for nu rcok etc. No usable overdrive, hard to control, fails in live situations. ok for backup at home. Was my first effect ever, years ago. The only I reason I keep it is I wouldnt get any money for it anymore...

The interface on this thing isn't the easiest in the world, and definitely not the fastest to edit. Using the patches is pretty straightforward, though. There's not a lot of room for custom patches. Only 30 writeable programs, with little flexibility on-stage.

The user manual was pretty clear.

Sound Quality : 5
Sound quality, for the most part, is terrible on this thing. The distortion is mostly like white noise, changing the drive level didn't really make it better. The compression (as well as some of the reverb and echo effects with clean tones) pops a *lot* when you hit a string, more than is normal with compression. Stereo effects were good, and the unit offers some interesting effects. Several effects are in stereo, which made it cool in a lot of ways.

Using this thing without an amp or some amp modeller is not recommended. Usually, when you get a floor processor, it's expected to have amp cab modelling. While it does (the "size" feature), it's not very good at all.

Reliability : 10
Very reliable, always used it without backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
Not good for distortion, but good for clean sounds and effects. One of the worst things with this processor, in my opinion, is the output. It has stereo effects, yet to utilize them, you'll have to have a stereo cable instead of two mono cables, which means you'll have to most likely have to have a stereo-mono splitter, which is what I ultimately ended up building for it.

Bought this unit used. I've just started to really learn how to play after having a guitar around for several years and I've found this unit to have some really good, usefull sounds for the stage I'm at. It's easy to edit, and you defenetly have to fine tune it to your set up. No manual came with it, but it was easy enough to find on line. Once I read through it a couple times, it all made sense.

Sound Quality : 7
I put it through a Peavy Rage 158 amp and play on a Washburn Idol wi14, so I know it will never sound like a Les Paul through a Marshall, but it does sound pretty damn good. I get some noise through some of the pre-sets, but if you torque it, you can really cut out a lot of the noise. The effects really do depend on your set up, some weak, some almost too much, but I have been able to get some really good distortion and an awesome sounding clean through mine. The special effects are kind of weak, pedal doesn't travel al that much, but you can make so really cool sounds.

Reliability : 8
It is really kind of hard to see the display, so if you don't have a couple patch's real close together to switch back & forth to, I can't see using it live. Then again, most guy's would only be using a couple of setting anyway. It's never gone out or anything, so yeh, I'd use it live.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never used them

Overall Rating : 10
I play a wide variety, rock, country, metal and I've found it useful for all those styles. I don't know if I'd replace it if stolen, I'd probably shell out some more money and get something a little newer.
All in all, excellent in giving you a sound to be confident in playing with. Once you hear that you CAN sound like you know what your doing, it really opens up your playing and builds your confidence.
For what I payed for it, it'll always be in my bag.

You must create your own patches with this to fit your style. It is easy but takes time. Keep it simple and don't try to jam all the effects into each patch. I think some of these people are shredding, crunching, and swirling every patch and then wondering where their tone went.

Sound Quality : 9
Nothing matches a Fender twin or a roland JC 120 for clean, bright sound [ OOp's forgot about the new Rogue amps.] But for dist., phaser, compressor, flanger, this beats them all. Again, adjust the patches.

I play mostly rock at parties and small clubs. I have crafted each patch with the most " mind-blowing " effects imaginable. Sure there are tiny bits of hiss or static here and there on some of them, but nothing you could possibly hear with the rest of the band playing. The Behringer XV AMP is comparable but does not have the sampler/loop function that I like.

This effects unit is fairly simple to use, though it is a pain to have to scroll through the menus to get to the disired effect to be preseted. I don't have much recollection of the manual, so I guess it is not that important to use this unit.

Sound Quality : 5
I play a Gibson SG Standard through an old Marshall Reverb 12 amplifier. The modulation effects are decent, and the delay effects are okay. The main problem is that if no drive is selected, then the level of the effect drops to minimal. If you want the effect clean, then you must select the compression effect on for it to be anywhere near audible, but the compression is awful. I don't notice any difference between clean and compression, accept for that the compression adds lots of digital sounding noise to your sound. The other drive settings (distortion, fuzz and overdrive) sound really bad. They do not give you the feeling that they are real at all, and sound very grainy with way too much high frequency in them. This box has the some of the worst sounding distortion I have ever heard on it. The wah and volume functions using the expression pedal are not very good either.

Reliability : 10
This unit is very reliable. The only problems that I have had are when I plug the cables into the wrong jacks (i.e. Guitar into the "output" jack) by accident...

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never used the customer support.

Overall Rating : 7
I play pretty much all styles of music, but this unit is not much help for any of them. It mostly gets in the way of my sound. I have it looped into another switch box, and use it primarily as a tuner. I am pretty sure that they do not make this unit anymore, so I doubt any one will be buying one anyways, but if you are thinking of purchasing this unit, you may want to reconsider.

Quite easy considering how much stuff is in it. The manual is good. Editing patches is very intuitive, simple really.

Sound Quality : 8
Well, as with all multi-fx pedals, this one will have things to praise and things to boo. In all fairness, it is not the top of the line, $400 multi-fx unit of today. It's low priced, and a bit out-dated, like your computer you bought in 2000. But it gets the job done.

For what it is, it's actually a nice little unit. Surprisingly good. I like Korg's multi-units much better than Digitech's.

Overdrives are tasteful, Distortion 2 is good, fuzz is bad until you EQ it right (heavy on the bass), otherwise it will split open your ear drums.

The compressor is very good.

I found the chorus to be tasteful and rich, the phaser gives good EH and Boss emulations, and the flanger has an interesting tone... a bit thin, but still good... it doesn't really sound like other flangers I've owned (Boss, EH).

The expression pedal is short on travel, but it does the job. It's great for whammy (very smooth shifting), but the wah leaves something to be desired. I believe the word is "balls."

Tremolo and vibrato are nice too...

I think this is a good choice for anyone, really. Some of the effects may not be to your liking, but for the price, it's a solid little pedal (plastic casing notwithstanding).

Pretty easy, even for a multi-effect pedal. I have the manual, but didn't need it to figure out how to edit.

The travel on the expression pedal is pretty short.

Sound Quality : 8
Most effects are good. The chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo and vibrato effects are particularly good-- very smooth and tasteful. Overdrive is good at low setting (great for solos), but I found it more difficult to find a pleasing, high distortion setting. It can be done, but it takes some tweaking.

The fuzz, also, with enough tweaking, is good. I can make it sound ALMOST identical to my Big Muff, though there was something missing... probably some particular notch in the frequency.

Echo effects are tame and not particularly useful... good thing I have a seperate echo pedal. Reverb is okay.

Pitch shifting is surprisingly good... more realistic than the Boss PS-3... smooth transitings with the whammy function.

The filter is good... not moog good, but good nonetheless. I enjoy the ability to control the filter, modulation effects, echo and other perameters via the expression pedal. W/ the flange, you can manually sweep from high to low w/ said pedal... cool! There is lots of fun stuff to explore.

The scratch function is fun, though I haven't found a use for it yet. The sample and reverse sample are also fun, but too short.

All in all, this is a nice multi-fx unit, for not much money.

Reliability : 9

I play various kinds of rock and pop. This unit gives me all sorts of sounds and options. I would recommend this to anyone, beginner or advanced. I use it in conjunction w/ various pedals, but one could concievably get along w/ just the Korg and a good delay pedal. Plus, it's not huge like some other multi-fx units... nice.

I learnt quickly how to change the patches, maybe the pedal-controlled functions took a little longer. But it's easy to use, a good multi-effect for the beginner. The tuner is alright, too. It's useful to have it in the box.

Sound Quality : 6
The lead distorsion fits me very well, and maybe the other "dist 1" too, but i can't get any decent metal sound, and I think there could have been more different distorsions in it.
Some of the effects are horrible, some are great. It has some great clean sounds, but I never use some of the other effects. I'm using a Fender Strat with my 30-watt amp. I feel that the Korg gives me some variation, the amp-distorsion is too boring.

It's pretty intuitive to use. I did look at the manual to figure out the loop/sample/scratch thing though... which is the beginning of my review: it sucks.

Sound Quality : 3
I have a Jackson explorer-body guitar. I cannot remember the model - fortunately it's not cheap enough to have it stamped on the neck or something ;). Stock Jackson humbuckers still in place. I run that into an Ibanez P7 phaser into a Danelectro Blue Paisley overdrive pedal (great pedal, btw) and into the AX1G. I have a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal on the way because I refuse to use the garbage distortion in this AX1G. All of that goes into a 15-watt Marshall paperweight that distorts much better than the A1XG.

When this disposable plastic box arrived, I was quite disappointed. I am a Korg fan (on the keyboard end of the biz) and I'm shocked that they treat their guitar players like this! There is little pedal travel, and what little there is - is too stiff. The wah and every other pedal-controlled effect, IMO, is unusable due to this.

Distortion is very weak. Overdrive is weak. The pitch effects are... wait... I'm going to have to say the whole damn thing sucks.

I spent more time trying to find a decent use for this thing than learning how to use it. Okay, the chorus is nice. The delay is okay. I did finally find a use for it: a noise gate. The 'noise reduction' is pretty good. I dialed in a setting that works for me and it silences all my pedals, line noise, etc.

It should be noted that I am a novice guitar player. But I am a senior production engineer for (I'll omit the name). I know quality and I've turned this box inside out looking for it. I would never (shudder) record with this.

Reliability : No Opinion
If the build quality is even 1/2 that of Korg's synthesizers, it will last. Korg is sticking it to you real guitarists in sound quality though.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've not dealt with customer support. I've dealt with Korg on endorsements and the like and its made up of some great people. And as long as they keep sending me free gear, I'll keep thinking that too. Maybe Korg has come around with guitar stuff lately, I really only know about the synths and this one guitar device they made.

Overall Rating : 3
Again, I'm shocked at Korg. Apparently its resources are funneled into its synth line.

My rencent setup are an ESP Eclipse FR!?and an old Charvel Strat into a Conquest T65R Combo.
The Chorus effect is so good,so is the overdrive.Usually I'd like to close the cabinet modeling when I play the AX1G 'cause I connect it into the effect loop of my amp. It sounds smooth.
Distortion needs to be more crunch,I mean is not so HEAVY for me.Maybe it's enough for guitar solo but ain't so good for metal rhythm!

Good clean sounds, as everyone says. The chorus is nice. Flanger and phaser are good too. I enjoy the whammy effect ... good w/ distortion for a My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" sound. Good compression. I didn't think the distortions were that bad. The fuzz and Distortion 2 are good, overdrive is good... it all depends on how you eq it... if you don't eq it right, it will of course sound like merde. That goes with all distortion effect... all sounds in general, really. EQ editing on the pedal is nice. Backwards sample is fun but short. DJ scratch is fun, as is ring modulator. The filter effect is awesome!

Wah is okay, but a little weak. Trebly for my tastes.

Reliability : 10
I've had it for several years with no problems.

Very nice little multi pedal. I use it with various other effects... I wouldn't use it as a stand alone, but even just as a compressor it's worth the money... cheaper than, say, a boss compressor, less noisy, sounds better, and plus you get a bunch of other fx with it, some great, some rather fetid, but those is the breaks.

Very easy to use. Editing is a bit slow, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. I really hate changing the name of patches, because you have to cycle through the ASCII character set, which is slow. The manual is fine and useful for reminding you of the stock settings if you're looking for ideas.

Sound Quality : 9
Actually, the sound quality isn't bad, if you use it right. I think the stock settings are pretty bad. They sound cheesy, thin and generally lack luster. They do catch your ear the first time you hear them, but you tire quickly and get annoying.

However, I've come across a way to use this pedal that really is great. I don't use it as a direct box, but to drive a Kustom Tube 12 (two actually -- in stereo!) It sounds really great. I've created a couple of patches using the Line DS and Line OD and through the Kustom, man, it sounds really great. The Kustom adds warmth that is missing from the direct out signal and the AX1G is capable of driving things so that some really nice and natural break up happens with the tube preamp. I typically have the Kustom set like this: bass - 9, treble 5 or 6 and the thing totally rocks. When I run into 2 Kustoms, I get a really nice live stereo sound that really sounds great. I would highly recommend this set-up as it's cheap (AX1G ~ $50, Kustom ~ 70) and very lightweight. For $180 you have a very useable tube-sounding set-up. The AX1G provides everything you need for effects and the Kustoms give you that tube warmth. My rating is pretty high with this set-up. I plan to post the specific settings of my patches on a website TBA.

Reliability : 8
Others have had problems. I haven't.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can't say.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall, I'd give a fairly high rating for it's flexibility. If you drive a tube amp -- even a small one like the Kustom -- you can get some really great sounds for practice, recording and doing small gigs. I got the idea to use it this way from the Kustom 12 reviews here, and it was a good thing to do!

It's very easy to use. There are tons of presets to choose from, and you can easily edit them to make your own settings. I got this when i first started playing, and I had no problems figuring it out. It even has the presets listed in the manual in case you need to get one back.

Sound Quality : 3
My setup is a 1988 Charvel Model 4 into a Peavey 5150 combo. I originally used this pedal with a cheapo Marshall MG10CD. It was fine for when I was first getting started, but I would never dream of using it with my Peavey.

I tried using it for recording recently. It was the first time in over 6 months that I had used it. I had forgotten just how bad the sound from this thing was. I was running straight from the pedal into the mixer.

Clean sounds are actually decent. My clean setting that I had logged with a little bit of chorus and delay sounded quite good, and was noise free on the recording.

The distortion on the other hand, is just aweful. It is impossible to get a semi-full sounding low gain distortion out of this box. And the high-gain distortion just sounds like a chainsaw.

Effects that can actually be used on this pedal are chorus, delay, and (kind of) distortion. The wah is useless, along with just about everything else.

I gave it a 3 and not a 1 simply because of the clean sounds.

Reliability : 4
My first AX1G was defective, and I had to go back to the guitar shop to get a new one. That one works well most of the time, but it will randomly cut out, even with new batteries.

I wouldn't gig with this without a backup. I would'nt gig with this period if I had a choice.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with the company. Just returned my defective pedal to the guitar shop.

Overall Rating : 4
I play a very wide range of music. I'll play lots of thrash such as Slayer, old Metallica and Megadeth. Then I'll move on to progressive stuff like Dream Theater and Symphony X. I even try my hand at shred songs once in a while. With one band I play a mix of punk and metal, and the other softer stuff, sometimes using an acoustic.

I've only been playing for about 2 years now. I don't use any effects right now; I just go straight into my 5150.

If it was stolen, I'd make a half-assed attempt to get it back, then give up. If I could find a buyer, I'd sell it any day.

Very easy for editing. You don't need the manual. The presetes are not good so you must do your own.

I have a yamaha pacifica 112 (SSH) with a seymour duncan distortion humbucker. I use it on a Crate GX15 (15W) and a fender ME80 (i think...) on the studio.
The sound is completely digital (that's bad). You may finally get some good sound but...
The distortions are very thin and flat compared to an analog pedal.
All effects don't have enough parameters. For example you can get delay for ...400, 450, 500ms... and you have only the volume for parameter.
The pedal sucks!!! Very small "angle" and not accurate!!! (for everything)
Loops, scratches, rings, "voice" are useless!

Reliability : 3
It's made of cheap plastic. I had some gigs without a backup but i wouldn't rely on it. I feel that it may break apart at a heavier push on it Although I don't have any problem yet (5+ "light use" years)

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 4
I play mostly rock. From classic 70s (zeppelin, purple) to alternative (red hot chili peppers, radiohead) and some metal. I play the quitar for 6 years. I don't have another effect unit. If it were stolen i would buy something better (and more expensive :)). I would probably go for analog.
Finally:
This pedal it's good for absolute beginners! Very soon you will find to need something better. For this money it's not something better... (unless sou want to start "collecting" stompboxes)

I expected from Korg a better manual, but io have to say that it's quite easy to edit preset patches and to get some good sound.

Sound Quality : 8
I use it at home with a little but good Fender X15 amp (or with an headphone) and with an old but gold Peavey T-60 guitar. There's some noise, most of all on distortion setting, but for my need it's acceptable. I've never tried to "imitate" the sound of some rock star, i'm not interesting in this exercise, i've only tried to obtain some clean or creative sound for recording on my computer: distortions are a bit noisy and some are weak, but chorus, delay and reverb are quite good.
Some presets are just an entertainment for kid, but with a bit of patience you can obtain your own sound, of course with not little limitation, but at the same time with some satisfaction.
It should be better to find a lower noise, a display backlight, a couple of tone controls and a longer sampling (at least 10 seconds), but you can enjoy it as it is, of course if you pay the right price for what you get and if you know what you need.

Reliability : 7
It's not made by stone and iron, at home i think it's reliable and on stage you have not to use marines boots or elephant kicks.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never dealt with Korg.

Overall Rating : 8
I still get an old Zoom 9002 and i think that the perfect contemporary substitute of this vintage nice (and noisy!) effect could be the Korg Pandora FX4, that maybe will be my next self-gift.
I've bought this AXG1 s/h from a kind person only one week ago, i think i've got a good quality box for what i paid (1/4 of a Pandora...), some effects are not different from what you can find in more expensive gears.
The worst aspects are a bit of noise (mainly on distortions) and the quite invisible display, the best are pedal and clean sounds.
If you are involved in a specific kind of guitar music, buy a specific effect, but if you like to play with an acceptable and personal sound, paying a cheap price, look for a s/h one and pay it not more than 50-60 $.

I use it with Fender Strat(DiMarzio's s-s-s) through Marshall DSL100. The wha-wha, overdrives, equalizer and almost ALL the effects are CRAP. I use it ALL BYPASSED as a tuner (after all is a korg tuner, isn't it?) or as a metronome when I'm practicing at home. The tuner and the metronome are the 2 reasons why I don't sell it.

Reliability : 3
It's plastic shit. I use it in the gigs as a tuner.

I play metal, 12 years now. The thing is not good, at all. I use other pedals for the effects (MXR distortion+, Vox wha, Boss Super Chorus). If I lost it, I would replace it with a tuner. I think it should be good for a beginner, mainly because of the metronome and tuner. Don't but it.

You pretty much have to have the instruction manual to get started, it's not a real self-explanatory piece of equipment. Once you get familiarized with all of the functions - and there are A LOT of functions - it's easy to manipulate the settings, but be warned, this processor requires a bunch of little tweaking here and there. I guess that's how most of these types of units work, but you can literally spend hours programming one single channel. I don't like the fact that the channels are set up in a linear fashion, like you really only have access to three channels at once (the one you're using, then one up and one down in the chain) and you can't bring in other effects in on the fly. Example: say you have a channel that's set up to sound one way, but you want to kick in some overdrive for a lead you have to switch to a whole different channel. Maybe I'm asking a lot from it, but it's kind of restrictive.

Sound Quality : 2
When I bought this pedal (about five years ago) I was playing a Japanese-made Fender Jazzmaster reissue into a Crate GT80-DSP trans-tube that had a solid-state channel and a tube preamp channel, rhythm and lead for both, so four total. It also had like 30 different types of digital delay and reverb in the amp - I was into effects, can you tell? anyway, it always sounded like total crap, and a Japanese Fender should not sound like crap. The processor seemed to be sucking the life out of my tone, making it just sound thin and fuzzy. If I used the processor on a clean channel with just effects, like chorus, flange, wah, etc., and relied on the amp to handle the distortion it was better, but still very digital sounding. I didn't use it very much for quite a while, probably about a year. I was getting tired of being in solid-state hell, so about six months ago I bought a full tube amp (which, by the way, is the best thing you can do for yourself - there is no substitute for real tube warmth, but that's an entirely different conversation). I now have a 40w Pignose G40V powering a 2x12 cabinet that I built and loaded with some high-end Jensen speakers. Started using the AX1G again...not much improvement, as far as the sound goes. It will definitely sound better through a good tube amp and speakers, but don't expect much.

Some people don't mind/can't tell the difference between digital and analog; if you're one of those people this unit might work well for you. Me personally, my ears pick up the difference between the two instantly every time, blindfolded, miles away, doesn't matter. I'm not saying I'm better than everyone else, I can just tell, and other people will tell you the same thing. This unit makes all of the sounds "choppy" in a way, like you can hear the bits of sound coming thru the amp. grainy.

as far as the effects go, some of the modulation effects are decent, like the chorus and flange. Decent octave effect, doesn't seem to track very well when the signal decays. Delay, reverb - typical, it's not too hard to find a decent reverb or delay, but again the digital sound... The nice thing about all of these is that there are several different variations on these effects to play with. The wah is not very good, it doesn't have much range and you can't modify the sweep range either, which for something as important as wah it would seem like they'd make this effect more versatile. Ring modulator is simply annoying. The cabinet simulator...???? sounds like it's trying to add subtle low end, but it's not going to make you sound like you've got two Marshall 4x12's behind you. The random effect is pretty interesting if you can find a use for it.

Overdrive effects...essentially worthless. If you bought this pedal to sound like Jimi with a Fuzz Face, or Eric Clapton from the Cream days, you might as well have just set fire to the $100 you payed for it. The distortions are just so thin and grainy-sounding that it can be painful. I stopped even trying once I got the tube amp and realized it wasn't helping the sound of the pedal.

Also, don't try putting any other individual pedals around this thing. I had some other effects, like tremolo, delay, a fuzz effect, that I tried using to get around the linear-switching problem. I thought my tone was weak before, it was unbearable with other effects around.

I have to complain about the detune function. It works pretty well as far as tracking the notes, but it's not very smooth when you use the expression pedal. It's one of those deals (like the cheap DigiTech Whammy copies) where it bends the pitch in mini steps instead of sweeping through the entire range. Also the further down you detune, the more you get a delay between when you hit the string and when the note actually comes out.

The one thing that is really cool about this pedal is the sampling effect. It takes practice (well, doesn't everything), but once you get good at it it's a lot

Reliability : 8
It never failed me. I never relied on batteries, I bought an adaptor for it right away. It's made of plastic, so don't drive your car over it. I never had any real problems other than not being able to get what I wanted out of it. In five years of owning it I never had the balls to gig with it, so I don't know how it would handle "road use". From the looks of it, I'm guessing not well.

Customer Support : 9
never had to deal with the company. It's nice that you can get a replacement instruction manual online at the Korg website, which I had to do when I broke it back out after getting my new rig and couldn't remember how to do anything.

Overall Rating : 6
I ended up selling this pedal on Ebay about three months ago for an unbelieveable $71, and I felt bad about taking the guy's money. Sorry, man, you got suckered.

When I bought the pedal I was into the Tom Morello style, I was huge into RATM and thought I could manufacture cool sounds by loading up on effects. Well...let's just say it's not the ship, it's the captain. You will never sound like Tom Morello with this pedal. End of story. He's got active pickups and vintage Whammy's and thechniques that just can't be copied, let alone with this toy.

I guess you can say my taste in music has "matured" because now I'm a little older and am really into gettng pure and beautiful tone. I listen to a lot of classics (Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream, Rolling Stones) and newer bands that have helped to bring that sound back (Jack White, the Strokes, Kings of Leon), I've also gone back to my grunge roots a bit (Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees, Neil Young if you think he should be in that "category"). Anyway, this pedal will never - and I cannot emphasize this enough - NEVER produce great tone, with any amp, guitar, whatever, that you have. If anything, it greatly detracts from the tone that you could be getting. I may just be biased against digital processor effects, but in my humble opinion you're better off taking the $100 or so and putting it towards building a pedal board that has all of these effects on it. Really, I've never known anyone that uses, or would use, all of these effects. Pick a few sounds that you like and go out and get some good high-quality stand-alone pedals. Believe me, DON'T BE FOOLED by the discount super-value that this pedal seems to be in the mail-order guitar catalog...YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET!!!

i've used this thing with a variety of amps (mostily combos) and guitars (mostily strat copies w/ bridge humbuckers), it seems to work against every amp when use one of the distortions settings. way to much mid-range, imagine a worse sounding dod grunge pedal, yeah, horrid. overdrive is better but still, i've got a $20 danelectro mini pedal (pastrami) that blows this away. pedal is way too noisy, noisy gate sucks, cab-simlu suck, just adds cracks and pops now days. the wha sounds like it's missing some high and low end, and the foot pedal does'nt controll it very well, no smooth low to high, it kind of jumps. oh, and the tracking on the pitch shifter is awful, so bad it's kind of funny hear. i would'nt use this ofr live or recording, mostily i use it as a headphone amp or just to goof-off.

I have a fender strat (2 humbuckers) and a cheap 20 watt practice amp. I used it at a gig once with a borrowed amp. The chorus/flanger type effects work really well. However, the distortion effects are weak and the wah is decent. Some of the preset effects are corny, but I was able to come up with some good stuff by myself.

I used it at a gig last year without a backup and it worked fine. I've had it about 2-3 years and in the past few weeks it's had a loose connection or something. The sound will suddenly go off and you have to push it with your foot to get it working.

I have been playing for about 8 years, and have used a danelectro fab tone, and messed around a little bit with some of the boss distortions. If it were lost or stolen, i would either get individual boss stomp boxes, or the a boss multi. I am becoming a more seasoned guitar player and i think that the ditortions are just shit not good enough for my tastes i play alot of metallica, alice in chains and nirvana i am getting into speed metal and i just bought a boss mt 2 off of ebay i got it because the ax 1g was not up to the job of what i needed. First it took a little time to find out hov to get the best out of this unit. The factory settings sound a bit plastic and articicial. The manual is typical in the world of japaneese electronic devices -complicatd but after a good comprehension things started to get clearer.

The sound quality of agx1 is excellent when using it through effects loop of almost any amp. Er.. I mean the compressor, modulation, delays and reverbs are good sounding but the distortions are not. They seem to sound thin or too high-gain for my idea of good sound. I use it with my Marshall JCM 2553 and I think that I wont be needing another chorus, flanger etc. - pedal or prosessor for awhile.
I've allso used the unit with keyboards, vocals, bass guitar and in my four-track tape deck/mixer as a effects prosessor. So it still is quite wersatile. At least in my standards. Plus it inclues chromatic tuner with a bypass!

It's pretty easy to use, not too complex. Editing patches is very easy. The only problem is too many buttons, you begin to get confused.

Sound Quality : 7
It's not too noisy when you use the noise reduction. The actualy effects sounds are not too great. It doesn't compare to the analog effects. It's hard to a get a specific sound, but if you fiddle around long enough you can get pretty close. I use a Fender Stage 160 DSP amp with it makes the effects sound better. If you are running through a smaller amp the effects get distorted. The distortions you can get with it are not to great, your better off getting a stompbox. They only effects I enjoy is the flanger, add a bit of flang to anything (delay, chorus, distortion...) and it makes the effects sound 10 times better. But if you use the flang on its own it's not too great.

Reliability : 5
Not too reliable. Sometimes it dies off for a bit if you use it too much. It has never messed up at a gig but at practice it has. My friend has one and it's pretty much dead and I got a feeling mine doesn't have much time either.

Never called.

It is a good pedal to get when starting of, or too use to write songs if you don't want to break out your effects board. I have used it up enough and I think it is time for me to buy better pedals. I will probably still keep it around and get some crazy sounds out of it, because if you fiddle long enough you can get some crazy sounds out of it.

This is the pedal for quality tone!!! For around 100$ you get a very reasonable little unit worthy of the KORG label! Compared to any of the ZOOM's for less than 200$ and the Digitech RP3, sound wise (this is after all why you're buying it!) its tops!
Easy to use!!! I only read through the manual about a week before I bought it, I havn't used the manual since, its a sinch! F88k'n "KORG for dummies"! You'll have patches a million before the first week is up. There are also some good presets: Funky (reminds me of the KIDS duo Robbie & Kylie), chorus (the chorus on this thing is great), aqua (you feel like you're in a fish bowl), redhouse (infamous), edge (good if you're into U2 guitars)!

Sound Quality : 9
My setup is a beat up Ibanez RX20 (slightly modyfied), which actually has a rather presentable sound, especially with the neck pickup! When giggin I usually plug straight into the mixer, otherwise I use a 10R Park (by Marshal, muahhahahahaha) bullshit practice amp and a VOX V847 wah wah (real squeelly f88ker, needs greese). The noise reduction actually works & most patches are relatively quiet after some foolin around! Just keep the level between 18 - 23!!!
Asskickin effects are: Compressor- excellent, Chorus-excellent, Octave-excellent Just for these three its worth the money!!
Not -so -bad effects: Overdrive- its Ok, it does sound like an overdriven amp, so it qualifies, the LineOverdrive is actually a superb drive effect, the phaser effects are really quite good if you can achieve stereo sound! Flangers 'r OK ( I really do not like this effect to start with)! The random effect is cool!!! Pitch shifters do what they're suposed to! The wah is only a wah if you readjust the settings for the expression pedal from MIN to MAX, but it will not replace the VOX I use, so buy a wah wah and you're set, maybe a good distortion if you don't like these, cause I don't really - three distortions to choose fron I go with the DIST2 sounds good for single string riffs, appart from that distortion is pretty sucky, but what the hay, you can't have everything for a 100 bucks, now can ya! Fuzz sucks, there's a preset Hendrix patch, well poor Jimi(may he rest in peace, all the respect, I lov 'im)twiching in his grave is that what "I sounded like"???? F88k nooooooo, you want a Hendrix sound use LineOverdrive instead you'll get there eventually. Autowahs dont really wah, do they? Fixed wah sound like a fixed wah.
Can't tell you about the sample & play feature, cause I havn't used it yet when I do I'll let ya know.
Ambience: Delays 'r good, though you cant adjust feedback boohoo! Reverbs are good, but don't use reverb in large amounts if you're playing with other people, you kill the guitar sound! Filter Echo and Ring can be used to make some weird sounds!
Overall sounds great like a true multieffects should, KORG rule the guitar world, does sound odd though doesn't it, ohhhh! TUNER is awesome, now you can stay in tune for most of the time YEAH!

Editing is easy, although it takes a lot of button-pushing. I hate buttons, but bought this one 'cause it got good reviews, & it was cheap. Manual is OK, but your better off learning by doing. Foot buttons are too close together. I try to click the right one, but the Expression pedal gets in the way. I often mistakingly turn on the tuner by pressing both buttons while over-compensating to the left. Digital readout is about 3/4" under the surface, without a back-light. Impossible to read. Although, there is a well-lit numerical readout next to it showing the patch & bank number, so you have to remember those numbers...

Les Paul through a Peavey Express 112. Like it's brother, the higher-priced AX100G, Flanger & Chorus are a bit weak. I added a bit of OD to bring it out a bit. Sound quality is relative to what the user want's to get out of it. It's all opinion. I'm still trying to get a real good sound out of it, but I did get some OK stuff. Has a lot of useless patches (Aqua, Ringer). Bender SUCKS. You have to bring to top of the expression pedal TOWARD you to do a Whammy Bar dive. I Hate that!!

Seems dependable...

I play Classic/hard rock/ & metal. This is OK. I just bought the Korg AX100G, and it is sooo much better. I liked the AX1G until I got the AX100G. The AX1G is a decent, inexpensive multi-effects processor. It's good if your looking to experiment with lots of effects.

AX1G is easy to use, if you have a manual. I have bought a new unit with a manual, but without an AC adapter. But that was not a problem - I have got an AC adapter for 15 DM (7,5 US$) in the big supermarket nearby. There are 30 slots in the memory, they are all filled in with default presets, and you can change all of them as you wish. And you can play also while you edit the sound - that means that you can modulate sound during the recording.

Sound Quality : 8
Guitars used with it: Fender/Squire Stratocaster, Bass - Yamaha RBX Series. Some effects can be rather noisy, but most of the effects sound great. Nice DELAY/FLANGE/CHORUS effects. Also good effects for distortion, overloading, etc.
I have tryed to copy an early Black Sabbath's sound and the sound of early The Cure. It wasn't exactly the same, but very close.

Reliability : 9
This effects processor is one of my favorites. Using in the gig is not a probelm, as long as you do not change the sound too often during the song. But I will recommend a big heavy unit that has more pedals for the gig.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had any technic problems with it.

Overall Rating : 9
I play alternative & experimenal music, post punk, early new wave, and record samples to use in the electronic music. The output sound is not very clean, but the effects are great. I play with AX1G since 2,5 years and the best thing in it for me is a good opportunity to create the own unique sounds. I use innovative guitar playing technics, and this unit is a "must" for me. I have tryed to use it with keyboards and microphones - sound is rather dirty and noisy but at the same time with EXCELLENT effects! Very good for the experiments. It helps me to make music a lot.

One more good feature - tuner for guitars. It tells you the note and if you play too low or too high.

I do not really dislike anything in it, but the pedals do not seem strong enough for me. I have always fear to press the pedals with the whole power of the foot - that is normal with the other processors. And the access to the effects from the memory is a little funny - this unit has 3 lamps (orange, green, red) and there are 10 effects for each colour (0-9). You switch them with the 2 small pedals (left for previous effect and right for the next).

Overall rating: very good, a "must have" for me. But I also search for some other effects processors now to use in a combination with AX1G. Maybe I will buy another KORG :)

Well i frankly would prefer pots to dial in ur tone. But it is definitely easy to figure out.

Sound Quality : 6
Artists: Metallica, iron maiden, judas priest, black sabbath, Deep Purple, Malmsteen, joe satriani, steve vai, Pink Floyd
Alan Parsons project ,Simon and garfunklel, Dire Straits,Eric clapton , richard clyderman (yep no guitar here but its agreat way to build ur ears since a piano is usually in true pitch)
Some french bands like jean jacque goldman, Florent pagny
, classical pieces from beethoven, mozart, vivaldi.

I have a Jackson soloist SSH kentarmstrong pickups through the AX1g into a marshall g-10 10 watts amp at home.

I used to like very heavy sounds but now i am mellowing a bit. To my ear the majority of the effects are thoroughly useless. The noise gate a mucks up the highs in my guitar (yes i know that's how a noise gate works but still..) and cuts the transparency and sustain. Add to the fact, that the bypass mode actually filters ur tone well..

On a positive note the LINE DS distortion suits me just fine. That's all i use right now, switching off evry other effect. I tweaked my guitar's intonation to perfection(in tune all over the neck and yes it can be done without buzz feinten or the earvana if the manufacturer of ur guitar got his basics right and intonated all strings properly at the SAME interval, like some older fenders and Aria Pro guitars) and adusted the pickup heights so that the guitars natural eq clean through the amp suited me (soft creamy with very soulful highs on bends, but enough sustain to even fret tap on clean). Single coils usually lose highs when the distortion is increased, but the Line DS is a little more trebly than DIST1 or DIST2 so what i get is just right for my ears, and it cleans up alot more easily than the other two when i turn the volume down.

My g-10 volume is turned all the way to 10, and everything else is turned down to 0(gain, contour). That way i get as much as an uncoloured amp setting as possible. And VERY IMPORTANT the input switch is set to H. (This is the switch next to the input socket) EVEN THOUGH MY PICKUPS AREN'T HIGH OUTPUT why? the switch if pushed towards
L actually acts like a preamp boost. So what it does is actually fatten up ur tone. This makes the entire thing muddy and any subtleties in tone are lost. If u want to get as transparent a tone as possible then push this switch at H.

If u think ur guitar feels hard toplay at this setting then ur guitar isn't setup properly or ur amp sucks major (trust me i found out the hard way). This setting will give u as close a tone or feel as directly plugged into a amp i.e as close as the ax1g can get to that tone that is.

Even the LINE OD effect seems pretty nice. On my g-10 when it is cranked up to 30 it sounds mellow and transparent though for the best tone u gotta go through a fender tube one of the smaller amps with the 6L6 tube. But the price this does fairly well.

NOW MOST important , this pedal is at best an addition to ur sound. What guitar or amp u have makes a great difference on how this sounds. Plus it is pretty noisy if the volume is cranked up on a bigger amp.

Most jacksons(for the matter most floyd rose guitars appear to be intonated a little sharp ). Even mine was in the beginning. Now some effects pedals can claim to give u infinite sustain, but to my ears they are atmost artificial and very shallow. I have tweaked a 4000 rupees (that's around 100$) worth PMG guitar, such that it can sustain almost endlessly on its own and too improved its feel to no end (harmonics just leap of it now). Even a cheap guitar can be made to sustain if it is setup properly as long some basic things like nut and fret placement has been done right, and the wood is fairly good.(if u make it out of plywood forget it!!)

So don't blame the ax1g if ur guitar doens't sustain. Since both my processor and amp(its solid state after all and has no eq either) are so limited in options it kind of brought the defects of my guitar glaringly to the forefront, so i could easily detect and fix them. Now if i plug my guitar in m

Never dealt with them directly in india, though there is a shop that is supposed to do authorised korg service but they said they arren't authorised to do internal repairs?! what are they for to jus clean it up?

Overall Rating : 7

Here is the deal. All i want is tone where i can finger pick comforatbly in clean and even in heavy distortion a guitar that responds to touch. Well i have got it quite comfortably with this processor(even in full dist and voluem i can finger pick and the guitar responds to the attack of ur picks from mellow sweetness to a sizzling heat though its more due to the guitar and amp rather than anything else. But it definitely is better than the zoom 505.

Well i din't choose this, my uncle bought it for me. At that time i was an ignoramus and wanted a Boss Gt-5. But now that my ears are pretty good i can see that nothing can match the tone of a tube amp cranked up to 10. So I am quite willing to settle for a cheap digital processor that sounds ok than buyoing an expensive digital processor liek the gt-6 that also sounds to my ears just ok. Especially now that i am leaning more toward clean tones rather than distortion.

If this were lost or stolen , I might just take the plunge and buy myself a tonebone tube pedal(classic or british i'm undecided). It seems more oriented to my needs. I really don't need much variety, and i am not hunting for someone elses tone, so it make smore sense. A harmoniser ,a crybaby, an doh ok maybe BOSS CE-1 (if i can find one:) would also be on the shopping list, but that's it.

Why i am mentioning setting up ur guitar here is that most ppl here atleast get the ax1g caus ehtewy can't afford a more expensive one, which means its very likely they would have got a cheap guitar which doesn't sound all that great. The following can drastically improve ur tone or worsen it depending onm how ur guitar already is and how good ur ears are so use it at ur own risk. The tip about tjhe nickel is here at www.billlawrence.com.

With regards to setting up ur guitar, a general setting is like this on the higher E string, put a nickel (i put a 5 ruppee coin works for me:) between the string and bridge pickup and adjusted the height till the string touched the coin. Then on the lower E, i lowered the pickup down it almost touched the cap. On the neck pickup i raised both ends till they had the same output as the bridge(i checked by playing the 24th fret on either string for both pickups alternatively). Then adjust the middle pickup the way u want( This is what determines how much body ur guitar has i keep mine similar to the bridge but with the lower E end a bit lower, the higher u go the more woodier ur tone becomes).

My action is like around 6mm from 12th fret on lower E (fromthe frretboard not the fret, and around 3mm from the higher E, and it gives me a nice round tone not too thin nor too thick clean , a little fatter than mark knophler something like the opeing of shine on u crazy diamond by floyd(that's default tone plugged clean) .But the action is purely a personal thing, I usually set it around apoint where the top string doesn't buzz. and the higher
E feels nice and full up higher and not tight and tinny. But this is also dependent on the following

VERY IMPORTANT: THE GUITAR HAS TO BE INTONATED TO PERFECTION (i.e harmonic on 12rth fret equal to open string equal to fretted note equal to fretted note on 24th fret equal to harmonic on 24th equal to open (whew!). Don't squeeze the string on the fret too hard it will sound sharp if u do that. Flat makes the strings bassy(even if one string is a little flat and especially the G and the D, woe betide if u got them wrong.ur guitar becomes unplayable.)sharp makes it harsh and unpleasant.
(also what happens is at the 24th and 12th fret u'll hear discrepancies in volume with either pickup i.e when inonated flat, the neck pickup will sound louder at the 24th than the bridge while the bridge will sound equal or louder at the 12th) May be the otherway round not sure now but that was the case on my guitar u will not be able to get the same volume for both pickups on all parts of the fretboard(used singly). But this gets corrected when it is intonated. and the feel

But,I play about 15 years and I know a little about tone. Many people say that AX1 has good distortin, even compare this with boss Metal zone or DS1. I dont understeand these people. Distorsions are extremly bad, weak, artificual and no sustain.Usual thing about every multi efx under 200$.Equalizer is bad too, no way to get mid scoop tone.Modulations and ambient are good only on low setings, on high become noisy ond bad.Only tuner is always good.Rating is: for amp 2, for headphone 5 , but value for money 9.

NOTE::: You probably don't want this pedal if you are professional, because you are probably rich enough to buy 300 small pedals and you can pay some German midget named "Hans" to run out on stage and hook each one up for you.

I bought my AX1G used and it didn't come with a manual but that wasn't a problem because the controls are pretty inuitive and in just a few seconds I was able to get it up and running. Editing patches is as easy as tweaking the settings and pushing the "enter" button. Even the stupidest person could figure out how to use this thing without ever looking at the manual.

Sound Quality : 10
As fan of notoriously anal tone freak Eric Johnson, I'm pretty anal about guitar tone myself. I use a Les Paul and a Japanese Fender 60s reissue Strat with a Marshall 50 watt combo. I play a wide range of styles from blues-rock and fusion to metal, shred and classic rock so I have to have an effects unit that covers a broad range of tones. The AX1G gives me just that. With the push of a button I can get the guitar sound of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughan, or even Jimi himself...just like they sound on the CDs. In the past I've owned & played a lot of effects units such as the Line 6 Pod and Digitech RP100, and I've been frustrated with all of them because it took a lot of tweaking to get the perfect tones I was looking for and even after tweaking knobs and pushing buttons for hours I'd still only have four or five tones I could actually use on gigs or in the studio and feel totally satisfied with. When I bought the AX1G and tested it out for the first time at a band rehearsal, everyone noticed the difference in my tone. The bass player stopped playing and commented on how full and bally it sounded. Even the drummer noticed a difference, saying it sounded like I had a huge row of stacks. With this unit not only do I get killer modeling sounds that duplicate all the artists I like, I get tons of effects that I can use at the same time such as different types of chorus, delay and reverb; whammy bar and pedal steel effects, DJ/scratch effects, different overdrives and distortions that DON'T SOUND LIKE WEAK DIGITAL REPLICAS OF REAL AMPS, speaker cabinet emulation, and most importantly, noise reduction cuz my Marshall's loud enough to wake the dead, especially with the feedback from the single coil pickups in my Fender (which I haven't had a problem with since I bought this unit). BOTTOM LINE: If your guitar tone sucks, get an AX1G and you'll never have problems again!

Reliability : 7
I'm going to give this a lower rating on reliability even though it sounds kick ass because it's made mostly of plastic and we all know cheap plastic parts break easier than a glass pinata. Plus, it eats
batteries by the truckload (one to two packs A DAY) so if you use it at gigs like I do, DEFINITELY pack spare batteries...you don't want your guitar sound to suddenly go dead when the spotlight's on you and it's time to take your big solo and impress all the chicks. I tried using an AC adapter with it, but it only worked half the time so I'm stuck using batteries, I'm not sure if that's a problem with the AC adapter or my AX1. Either way, I'm gonna have to give this a low reliability rating because as a gigging musician I need more dependable features, and this doesn't even have a backlit display for
night time use.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had to deal with customer support yet, I hope I won't have to.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall, this thing KICKS ASS. If it was stolen, I'd buy a new one.
I've been playing for six years and I haven't heard anything better, even the more expensive effects units that guitar mags try to con you into buying because they're OBVIOUSLY better if they have huge price tags (which is pure bull). My favorite thing about my AX1 is the distortions, I can get a good metal sound a la Zakk Wylde and company
or George Lynch and also great tube amp sounds even though my Marshall's solid state. I used to own an original sixties Fender tube amp and with this pedal I can get the same tones from my solid state Marshall. I bought this to replace my Digitech RP100 and I'm sorry I ever bought anything else. If someone offered to trade it for something else, I'd say no way...NOTHING sounds better than this thing (except expensive rack effects units), which is amazing considering it's really cheap price. Next time some old fart starts rambling about how great tube amps are and how you're not a guitar player if you ain't got tubes in your rig, turn your AX1 way up and blow them away. I'd give it a 10 if it was made of all metal instead of plastic.

I wasn't too pleased with any of the preset patches, but a little tweaking made them all sound pretty good. It's simple enough to completely replace them with patches of your own design, provided that you know what each individual effect sounds like. Switching between patches and use of the expression pedal is very straightforward, and the manual covers everything you could think of.

Sound Quality : 8
My guitars are an Epiphone Les Paul Standard and a Squier Affinity Telecaster, amp is a Laney 30W combo. I don't like any of the distortion effects on the pedal, I think they all sound too cold and harsh. The overdrive and fuzz effects are quite good and warm sounding though, but I usually find myself not using any type of drive atall. The pedal really shines when using the tremolo, pan, filter, delay and echo effects, these are all adoreable. The 'hold' feature is excellent for building up loops. Chorus, flanger and phaser effects are okay, but the settings all sound very similar for these. Then there are all sorts of other bizarre effects like 'drone' and 'random' that can keep you entertained for hours!

Reliability : 7
Problem is, it's made out of plastic. I managed to snap the expression pedal right down the middle just by standing on it, and I wouldn't even say that I'm particulary bulky! Apart from that though, I've had it for nearly 4 years without any other hitch at all, and I regularly gig with it without any backup.

I play mostly post / noise rock kinda stuff - Mogwai, Godspeed, Slint, Sonic Youth etc., but I dabble in most types of music. The AX1G is good for getting the quieter aspects of post rock, but you really need a much better distortion for the loud parts! I've been playing for about 5 years now and the AX1G was the first FX unit I purchased, when I'd been playing for about 1 year. I found it a useful tool to let me know what different effects sounded like and what I actually liked using. I've gone on to purchase separate units for the kind of effects that I use most often, like delay (Boss DD5) and distortion (Marshall Shred Master) etc, but the AX1G is still great for effects that I might use once in a while. If it was lost/stolen I think I'd probably buy it again, despite its shortcomings. I love the fact that the tuner is a nice big LED screen that you can see clearly, but I hate the fact that it's impossible to see the LCD display in anything other than bright light. But for its price, it's pretty much unbeatable.

Easy to use.Editing is very simple. The manual explains everything
very well.
Really a nice and handy device.

Sound Quality : 8
It offers a wide vareity of different sounds and effects.
It makes a little noise, but the Noise Gate will help.
The sound architecture and routing is fine adjusted and designed. It
should be possible for every one to get good sounds out of it.
there are machines out, wich are much more expensive as this thing.
But with wrong handling or no experience of the user in sounddesign,
also this machines will sound worse. The chance to get a worse sound
out of a high class device is thousand times higher as with this thing
The advantage of such "semi preset" devices is,that you can adjust a
new sound very quick, without this parametric frenzy of the upper class
but on the other hand, you have to live with a more "fixed" sound or
limited bandwith of sounds with such a device.

I think, the AX1g has a very balanced and usefull basic sound.

Distortion and Overdrive are always a question of taste. You can like
them or not.
The compressor works like a compressor should work, wich was designed
for guitar. It is OK.The EQ is simple but useful.A limitation is the
Middle EQ,where you can choose only three Center frequencies.I wish it
had more choices in that section. But this three Mid frequencies were
selected in an acceptable way.
The FX sections Mod and Ambient are selected fine. But they have
preset character.Delay times are fixed and reverb too.Chorus,Flanger,
Phaser also.
Nice gimmick is the Ring Modulator.

All and over the AX1G offers a lot of good sounds in many ways.
It is an all in one device.

For this small money a good deal.

Reliability : 8
Functional never had trouble,
I am a little sceptic about the plastic design. But it seems that
it is solid plastic.

Never needed.

Overall Rating : 9
A great device,not only for begiiners.For rehearsals,practicing,in
Studio or also live it can make a great job.

I like it,because I don't need to start my big rig.A big helping
tool,with a good sound.
Live I use it for my electric mandolin. In Studio I use it together
with other devices in many ways.
A very functional device.
Only the short Pedal Way,makes me a little mad.I guess it was designed
for the size of japanese feet...:)

Sound Quality : 7
i use a custom made guitar with a marshall amp. it is a little noisy but u can cut the noise levels. all the effects are ok but the distortion needs more crunch or power. otherwise its a decent gadget.
u can manage and get some tones for blues , rock, and metal.
distortion needs more crunch.

i already use it live and one recording session.
and its never let me down in a show but u go to work on ur tones before u use it live.

This is definitely a studio pedal, although not a very good one at that. I have found that trying to bypass the thing is very difficult, The bypass also cuts out a lot of the signal. Setting up an effect is also quite difficult, I think my problem is that I was using it as a stomp box rather than a proper effects unit.

Sound Quality : 7
Once again the bypass REALLY REALLY annoys me! when you try to turn it right up there is a lot of hiss. One good point is that it has a wide variety of fx you can use, the flanger is particularly good and I love the hendrix preset.

Reliability : 7
Never breaks, although I would not use it at a gig.

I have been playing quite a long time now and rely mostly on stomp boxes, I play everything from punk rock to blues. I would not buy another if I did loose it, I did try the korg's rival unit - the zoom thingy, and found that much more favourable, although it cannot match the korgs build quality, I was given the korg as a birthday present when it first came out and it was a bit of fun, but as I progressed as a guitarist it became a hinderence, I wouldn't recomend it for anyone who wishes to become semi-pro or pro.
KORG AX1G - bit of a laugh, but not that good.

Ease of Use : 9
Ease of use? Once you look into the manual (I hate manuals) and find the magic keystrokes...programming and setup is simple and fairly quick. The manual was very good, I have to admit.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using an Epiphone LP Xtreme guitar with this processor and it works great! The presets are BOGUS but after tweaking, I've stumbled on some fantastic sounds for a cheap pedal.
It also works great on my Bass guitar...Korg makes a bass processor for $99 too, but I've found that the AX1G actually has great sound with my bass. Worked on a patch that sounds just like Geddy Lee's Rickenbacker...it's awesome!
From the guitar side, I've got a Clapton sound that is flawless...I've Tweaked the Rush guitar effect to perfection. And I've developed a distortion/fuzz box sound out of the 60's that blows my mind.

Reliability : 10
Very dependable and surprisingly well built for the price.
Not a bit nervous about it on stage, (I do carry a backup though.)
and have used it for 3 months in my regular performances with no problems at all.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to call Korg...use the Internet to get my questions answered.

Overall Rating : 8
I'm a 35 year Jazz/rock veteran performer and the AX1G fits into my style and act perfectly. I'd buy another if something went wrong with it.
It's a bit noisy on high volume leads though...some hiss...but I've found ways around that using some programming tweaks.
What do I hate...no backlight on the display...this is a serious flaw in my estimation. If the display was larger, maybe it wouldn't be that much of a problem, but as it is, the foolish 'phosphor' 'hold it in the light' display is a joke...Korg should be ashamed of that lackluster feature.
I'm going to modify mine with a light addition I found on the Internet. If I break it...I'm only out $99 for a new one.
I got mine on Ebay auction for $63 bucks...well worth that, believe me!

Ease of Use : 7
this unit is easy to use, that is, the factory presets are easy to use. you actually need to read the manual to design your own sounds. so all in all it's more complicated to use than a single-effect stomp-box...

Sound Quality : 7
my setup is a 30 watt bass amplifier, through wich i play a strat-copy. but i don't really use the amp a lot, i record straight into my 4-track. and despite the other reviews, this unit is slightly noisy, but it has adjustable noise reduction, and that works for me.
i like the distortion! it sounds lo-fi! the sound of my boss distortion is better, but that pedal cost 3/4 of what the ax1g cost me. the flanger on the ax1g is very usefull, the chorus is good...
but the octaver and 12-string functions suck hard...

Reliability : 7
it's made of plastic, and the expression pedal seems fragile. i only depend on this without a backup because i have to. but my unit has worked well for 4 months...

Customer Support : No Opinion
i haven't had to deal with the company...

Overall Rating : 7
i play sort of punk-ish black metal. the different kinds of distortion on this unit works when you layer several riffs. more effects in one unit mean less cables! and if the expression pedal was more sturdy, i would probably love this pedal. the two control pedals sit too far apart, since you have to step on them both simultaneously to bypass the unit...
if this was stolen i'd buy the zoom505II. or a couple of danelectro mini-pedals...

This is one of the best things about this pedal. it is so easy to create your own programs and since you can name them, you dont have to remember where they are. the manual is pretty good. i still cant get the loop function to work though.

Sound Quality : 7
the thing to remember about the sound quality is it only cost 99 bucks. come on now you are not going to get professional sound quality for that. but for the price, the quality is pretty good. the modulation effects are the high point of this pedal. other than the compressor, the drive effects are useless. seriously, you have to get your distortion from a pedal or your amp and run it into this pedal to get a good distorted sound. the presets are all pretty much rediculous. i bought this pedal because i wasnt really sure what kind of effects i needed. this pedal has been great for experimenting around. for 99 bucks, i think this was a good investment.

Reliability : 9
i think i could depend on it.

Customer Support : 3
there basically is no customer support. the expression pedal on mine wouldn't turn on or off, so i looked to see if there was a number i could call or something. all it said was to contact the korg dealer for any problems. come on. i havent checked the website yet though

Overall Rating : 9
i like to play just about every type of music. i have been playing for about 4 years now and i started to realise that there was something missing in my tone. i didn't know what, so i bought this pedal to help. it has been very helpful. effects are like spices, when used in moderation they can really color your tone. i have been able to help my tone with this pedal. i also tried one of the new zoom pedals when i bought this (606 i think) and other than the drive effects, i like the korg a lot better. i really wish it had an amp modeler but hey, for 99 bucks. overall, i think this is a great pedal for beginner and intermediate guitar players who arent really sure what they need from effects. if anyone wants any presets, email me and i'll send you some.

Ease of Use : 6
It's pretty easy to use, editing patches is simple although it can take some experimentation to get the sounds you want. The manual is a bit brief and doesn't explain the sample/loop feature very well at all. I wish they could have made the two pedals a bit closer together, or rather bigger, if you want to bypass the unit, you want to be sure you're gonna step on both pedals and not miss one. I don't like how after you press a pedal it takes about 1/6 of a second to go onto the next effect. This might not sound like much but it's VERY noticeable when you're playing. I know this is common in most digital effects units but it's still annoying. I wouldn't recommend this as someone's only unit, use it in combination with at least a distortion pedal so you won't have to switch between effects so much.

Sound Quality : 6
I find that all this unit isn't very noisy at all, and most of the effects are of good quality. All the distortions however are of terrible quality, even with complex fiddling around with the eq, you can't get a sound anywhere near as good as you can with a simple, cheap distortion pedal. They're all sorta high-pitched and muffled at the same time. The compressor is good though.

Reliability : 9
I bought it second hand and a couple of times just after I bought it, the expression pedal would suddenly stop functioning and I'd have to unplug the unit then plug it back in again to fix it. This is probably just a fault in my one though, and it hasn't happened in the last couple of months so I wouldn't worry about that now. I haven't had any other problems and would use it at a gig without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with it.

Overall Rating : 5
I play a lot of rock and a bit of punk. I only use this unit to add in single effects when I need them in a song, then bypass it and let my Danelectro Fab Tone distortion pedal take over when the bit with the effect finishes. That's the only other pedal I own. If the AX1G were stolen or lost I wouldn't replace it, I'd look for something better. I hate how it's not really at all usable on its own, you need other pedals to go with it. I know it's hard to fit an expression pedal onto a unit like this but couldn't they have made the whole thing a bit smaller? It's so huge compared to a Zoom 505II which has similar ability except without the expression pedal.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy the AX1G.

I found this unit pretty easy to edit and use.
Usage: The two big foot buttons are used to scroll you through the channels. There are thirty channels and they are all editable. The Pedal allows you to dynamically change a particular effect depending on how you have set it up.
Editing: When you get into the edit mode by pressing the "Edit" button, the first parameter you are faced with is the Drive/Compression/Fuzz/etc... You should turn this off and use the nice distortion found on your amp. :-) The second parameter you run into is the built in EQ. I only use this on occasion. But most of the time I leave it turned off. The third parameter is the modulation setting. This has everything from Chorus/Flanger/Phazer/Ring Modulater/Auto-Waw/etc... And most of them sound pretty darn good and I use them very often. Note that only one of these can be selected at a time. The next parameter is the pedal control selector. I usually use the pedal for Volume control. This make for nice swells. And sometimes I set up a channel with this set to Waw. And it sounds pretty good. Maybe not as good as a Crybaby. But then the cost of the Crybaby is about as much as this whole unit. :-) By the way, if anything other than volume is selected for this parameter, parameter three (the modulation parameter) is automatically turned off. So you can't put a flanger through a chorus or other such combos. The next parameter is reverb/delay. I also use this alot. It work very nicely. The next parameter is cab size. When used with a real amp, I suggest leaving this item turned off. Then there's a few other parameters... channel level, channel name, and noise reduction I think.
I use this unit live. I usually have a channel that's clean, a channel that's deleyed, another with flang, one with phaser, one with chorus, and one with foot controlled waw. Like I said, easy to use easy to set up.

Sound Quality : 9
I have a Peavy Classic 30 and a great Strat! I put the AX1G in the effects loop of the Amp. I works and sounds great. Hardly any tone loss. And there's no noise whatsoever! :-) As long as you stay away from the distortion/compression/etc... hence, turn off the first parameter in all the channels you plan to use. You'll be alright. You really should just let your amp do the dirty work. Or buy a good overdive/distortion pedal.

Reliability : 10
I've had this thing for about four years now. Must be made by timex. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. :-)

If you're lookin' for a nice little effects box, this one in my opinion rivals some of the rack units as far as quality goes. And it's real cheap now. I think you can get one for like $100 new. And by the way, it also makes a good vocal processor too.

I've had this pedal for a couple of years now and find that editing is really a breeze, the manual isn't great but it's fairly simple to work out what's required. As with most multi-effect units I 'm not too keen on the presets though that's not to say that other's won't enjoy using them as they are.

Sound Quality : 7
I use this with either a Strat or a Tele thru either a Carvin Nomad or Marshall JCM 900 to play most things, blues rock and country etc with good results from both amps. I tried it direct thru the PA but didn't really think it sounded very clever, not to the standard of say a Pod Sansamp or Yamaha DG Stomp which is not surprising when you compare the price. For the cost involved most of the effects sound good and are usable, it's a pity though that you can't have compression along with the drive options. The wah effect ain't no Vox but it is usable as are the reverbs and delay's and the modulation effects chorus trem etc are reasonable quality. You can also assign various effects to the pedal and switch them on and off as required. As I don't really use heavy distortion sounds I can't make an honest judgement about that area although with some careful tweaking you can get a fairly good approximation with regard to Bluesy sounds aka Trower Stevie Ray Clapton etc as well as some pretty convincing country tones. If you sit down and spend some time setting up the unit and making adjustment's to suit your requirement's you should be able to achieve decent results bearing in mind that sound's to individual players is subjective and it does sound much better to me thru the amp's than when used thru the PA. Having tried the more expensive AX 1000 I can't really say that I thought it sounded any better overall.

Reliability : 9
I've used this thing stacks of times at live gig's and never had a problem with it so far.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Korg on this one and I don't believe that there's any upgrade available.

Overall Rating : 8
This unit won't appeal to everyone, what unit does, it's certainly reasonably priced and within the reach of most, when you think that you can pay the same amount for one stompbox it can't be bad. There are many featured sounds within that I would never use but others will and it's the option that makes it. It would be unfair to compare the quality of effects with units at five times the price but if tweaked it will be effective, it's also light and portable and doesn't take up half the stage and is very stage friendly to use. I do have other stuff like DG Stomp Sansamp Quadraverb etc but this so simple to use that I use it all the time.

The distortion on the DOD death metal distortion is a lot more smoothed than the AX1G. If i lost this i would definatly buy a new one just because of the effects besides the distortion. This thing is very versatile making it a good choice for any musician, I find it very helpful with making music

I play a squier strat and a epiphone les paul into my stereo. For that reason, the sound throught this thing could get better. This thing is dead quiet if you work the parameters right. Its got tons of effects on it, and the modulation and ambience effects are great. The distortions are pretty much standard compressor, transistor, tube, and metal. The tube simualated ones arent that great. I do use the solid state and fuzz settings a lot. This thing probably is worth the 99 just for the GREAT chorus, phaser, and flanger.

Well, for 100 bucks id say its worth it. Its nice to have everything in one box. It is really hard to put it in bypass and sometimes you switch to the wrong effect. But, thats ok. My biggest complaint is that you can't really tweak the effects. You can only adjust the value. 0-30. I would have rather have used the money to buy a boss phaser, or somethin like that. For a decent all around pedal you can't go wrong.

Very easy to use. 30 presets(user writable) you just scroll through with the 2 footswitches. Editing is very fast and easy, just press the edit button to toggle between editing and playing modes.

5 different categories of effects that can be used simultaniousy. Drive, Tone, Modulation, Pedal effect and Ambient. The drive gives you you're overdrive, fuzz, distortion and compression. Tone adjusts the EQ of the effects. Modulation contains your fancy stuff like flanging effects, chorus, vib, phaser. The pedal can be assigned to various things like volume control, wah wah, humanizer and bender. Ambient has a few nice reverb effects. Plus this thing has a built in cabinet resonator with 30 sizes to chose from and theres a good NR feature too.
Everything is determined on a by-preset basis, everything including volume, NR, cabinet and all your effects settings are stored in the 30 memories except a master volume control. Very easy to flick between different sounds.

Sound Quality : 5
I'm using a kustom 20watt practice amp most of the time, but I often have to use some of my schools amps for practice, these range from a 15w peavey to a 40w fender, to a laney bass amp. The pedals sound quality is one area that it has sorta let me down in I'm afraid. Before I got this pedal I was using a boss metal zone, on loan from a mate. When I started using this pedal I was dissapointed with the distortion I got from it till I got the tone function to the same settings I had the metal zone at. It sounds alright at low volumes but plug in some headphones or put up the amp and I found it to have a very harsh buzzy sound. Reguardless of that the tone from it is very low. Especially compared to the sound of my bands lead guitarist and I cant find a way to get the pitch up any.
I also found that the overdrive and fuzz effects are kinda cheap sounding, like I was listening to it through a radio.
Modulation effects were impressive, although I dont have any refference for these sounds. The expression pedals range was slightly limited, I didn't think that the WAH would be up to much, but when I played it with my band the sound was far above my expectations.

Reliability : No Opinion
I'm always very careful with my property. Plastic construction would make this a risky investment for some people who hammer thier stomp boxes, but not me. It hasn't failed in the month I've owned it, cant complain.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Havn't had any problems with it.

Overall Rating : 7
I play a lot of metal mainly, and this pedals distortion effects have a good low growl to them, which is great for some tunes, unfortunetly this tone is more due to the quality of the output. Some sounds I've been able to replicate perfectly with this pedal like the wah at the start of Enter Sandman, while I've had a hard time trying to get some lighter tones without it sounding too cheap.

Would I buy this again? Hmm, truth is its a great pedal. Especially for the price. But truth is I dont want to let my band down when it comes to our next gig. I'm seriously considering going back with this pedal and forking out another hundred quid or so, seeing if I can maybe get a partial trade in for something better. I'm going to see if I can get better sound out from it with an expensive amp first though. But even with headphones I'm getting the same problems with distortion.

Really easy to use. Editing patches is instinctive and easy. The manual is relatively good for a Korg product. The manual for the Korg 411fx (the predecessor to the AX-1G) is REALLY bad, written by an ESL teacher who doesn't actually speak English, so the manual for this one is really good by comparison. It lists all the effects and parameters, directions for set-up and editing, as well as the settings for the original pre-sets (nice).

The screen isn't so bad. It's not backlit, but the patch number indicator is, as well as a color coded light that tells you what program bank you're in. If you know what program number/color you want, you can easily find it, even on a dark stage. I don't see what the big deal is.

Sound Quality : 8
Since I've been so annoyed that people only hint at the weirder effects in these reviews, I'm listing ALL the effects and rating them from 1-10 (so there):

<b>
DRIVE EFFECTS:

Compression: 9 - very nice, transparent and subtle at low settings
Overdrive: 8 - crunchy... great blues tone with some tweaking
LineOD: 6 - a bit trebly w/amp... made for DR or headphone use
Dist 1: 6 - not bad, not great
Dist 2: 8 - fat and rich, almost Big Muff-ish... cool
Fuzz: 7 - a bit nasty, like 60's fuzz

TONE
Low Gain: 7 - subtle but effective enough
Mid Freq: "
Mid Gain: "
High Gain: "

MODULATION EFFECTS

Chorus 1: 8 - quite nice
Chorus 2: 9 - rich! - almost better than my Cool Cat
Chorus 3: 5 - not very interesting--split clean and chorused signal
Chorus 4: 8 - good doubling chorus
Vibrato: 8 - good
Flange 1: 8 - good "A Forest" sound (Boss-like)
Flange 2: 8 - deeper version of Flange 1
Flange 3: 7 - can be a bit much... "thumb" sounds w/ slower rate
Flange 4: 7 - ditto
Phase 1: 8 - Small Stone-ish, great, maybe not pronounced enough
Phase 2: 8 - "
Phase 3: 8 - like Small Stone w/color switch activated
Phase 4: 8 - "
Trem 1: 7 - sine wave, ok
Trem 2: 7 - square wave, ok
Pan 1: - I don't have a stereo setup, so not much good
Pan 2: "
Autowah 1: 4 - crap on a stick
Autowah 2: 5 - a little better
Fixed wah: 6 - can be useful
Random 1: 7 - interesting "flowing water" sounds, low pitch
Random 2: 7 - oldschool techno... mid pitch
Random 3: 7 - high pitch... these fx probably best w/synth
Pitch 1: 7 - average, low pitch volume, as good as Boss
Pitch 2: 8 - nice for 5th interval chiming, louder volume
Pitch 3: 7 - Just the shifted tone
Pitch 4: 7 - yadda yadda
Octave: 5 - one octave down, won't replace your Blue Box

EXPRESSION PEDAL CONTROLLED EFFECTS

Volume: 9 - It's volume... not that complicated

Chorus 1: 8 - speed controlled by pedal
Chorus 2: 7 - depth controlled by pedal
Vibrato: 9 - cool Leslie style ramping (speed change) w/ pedal
Flanger: 8 - manually control sweep w/ pedal
Phase 1: 7 - speed controlled by pedal
Phase 2: 7 - same, inverted feedback
Trem 1: 9 - sine wave, speed controlled by pedal - way cool!
Trem 2: 9 - square wave, ditto, think "Bones" by Radiohead
Pan 1: - (I have no stereo setup)
Pan 2: -
Ring mod: 8 - frequency controlled by pedal, nice
Wah: 8 - useful, all around wah wah, good clean & distorted
(not sure why people dis this, it's generic but good)
Filter: 9 - very cool, Moog-ish, always wanted this effect
Voice 1-2: 7 - convincing enough talk box simulation
Random 1-2: 7 - level controlled by pedal
(flowing water techno stuff)
Pitch 1-3: 7 - respectable pitch shifting
Bender: 8 - good whammy fx, slighter better than a Boss PS-3
(smoother transition when whammying down 1 or 2 steps)
Drone: 6 - might be cool if easier to use... Indian music

Delay: 7 - delay volume controlled by pedal
Hold: 6 - can hold the delay indefinitely
Echo: 8 - echo time controlled by pedal... neat-o!
Room 1-2: 5 - not great (reverb level controlled by pedal)
Hall 1-2: 5 - still not great
Sample 1-2: 8 - forward and reverse phrase sampling, fun, but short
Loop 1-2: 8 - loops a sampled phrase
Scratch 1-2: 8 - scratches up a sampled phrase, fairly real sounding
DJ effect

(I rated these "sample" effects high even though they only have a maximum 1.8 second sample time... it's fun to play with, and it's not like I was looking for this feature... someone used to a real phrase sampler wouldn't like this, I think)

AMBIENT EFFECTS

Room 1-2: 5 - not great... weird delay before reverb comes on
Hall 1-2: 5 - ditto... might sound good on vocals, not guitar
Delay, 40-1000 milliseconds: 3 - very limited sounds, bor

Reliability : 8
It feels sturdier than it looks. If it dies in a couple of years it's cheap enough to replace easily. I think I'd buy the same thing again, even over a the newer Korg multi units, just because this one is so compact.

Overall Rating : 9
I play all kinds of stuff. Anything but music for pickup truck driving yahoos and buttrockers. Influenced by REM, The Clash, Radiohead, The Smiths, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Modest Mouse, My Bloody Valentine, Badly Drawn Boy, Aphex Twin, Nick Drake, Stevie Ray Vaughan, various new wave, punk, idm, art, pop music, etc etc etc. Whatever. Rock n' Roll.

What I love about this pedal is it gives me lots of miscellaneous effects that I've always wanted but couldn't afford. Like...

FILTER EFFECT. If you've ever used an old keyboard (or new one with analog knobs), you're familiar with resonance and cutoff filters. Moog also makes a filter pedal for two or three hundred dollars. This is like the sound in that old Who song... the whooshy synth intro... I forget the title. If you've never heard one before, it's kind of like a cross between a wah and a phaser. Sort of.

PEDAL-CONTROLLED TREMOLO. Radiohead's second album, The Bends, has this song on it called "Bones." It has this cool distortion and tremolo sound, but the speed of the trem is constantly going faster and slower. I've always wanted to be able to do that--now I can.

PEDAL-CONTROLLED ECHO SPEED. This is something else I've always wanted. When you turn the time knob on an echo pedal while playing, the echoes get screwed up. It sounds really cool. But it's hard to play and twist the time knob at the same time. Now it's easy.

RING MODULATOR. I had a Snarling Dogs Mold Spore Wah, which was a two-in-one wah wah and ring modulator. The pedal blows-- bypass sucks the tone out, and it's unreliable as hell. But, now I've got a reliable ring modulator, with a greater selection of frequencies to choose from, in case I feel like being Devo or something.

PEDAL-CONTROLLED VIBRATO. For the Leslie feel. Going from fast swirls to slow, flange-like swirls, just like my ugly old organ. It's not going to outperform any real Leslie, but then again, I'm not going to spend the cash to get the real thing, so this is great for me.

RANDOM EFFECT. It's always nice to have something off the wall like this. I could use it on a techno song or one of my weirder pop songs. Especially for use with a synthesizer.

And finally, here's one more really cool thing about the AX-1G:

BLUES TONE. Unfortunately, I have a solid state amp. It has tube modeling, but we all know how well that works. Anyway, I dialed up a great blues lead tone on this pedal, trying to emulate the sound of various Fender and Peavey tweed tube amps I've been lusting after. It's still not quite as sparkly, but it's the closest to a tube blues overdrive sound I've heard on a solid state system.

SETTINGS:
Overdrive - 23
Low Gain - 5
Mid Freq - 1
Mid Gain - 0
High Gain - 6
Cab size - 5, value 23

Alternately, use compression set to 10 instead of overdrive, and use this setting with another overdrive pedal like a Daddy-O or your amp's overdrive or whatever. The key is probably the Cabinet Resonator. Also, it helps to be using a Strat with the neck pickup. It helps even more to play with some feeling, you wank.

And finally, my setup:

Fender Tele or Strat ->

Korg AX-1G
Big Muff (modified by Sustain Punch for Siamese Dream-ness)
Danelectro Daddy-O
Danelectro Cool Cat
Danelectro Tuna Melt
Boss PS-3 w/ exp Pedal
EH Delux Electric Mistress (original)
Korg 301dl echo

Peavey Bandit (sigh...)

The AX-1G has officially replaced my Korg 411fx multi, Snarling Dogs wah/ring mod, and Boss volume pedal. The only gear lust I really have now is for a nice tube amp (a Fender or even better a Peavey Classic 30, which sounds even more Fender than Fender).

If it were stolen, I'd pin a picture of it to my shirt and dance in a public square as a form of protest (cueco solo con mi Korg). And finally, I wish it had an espresso maker and a George Foreman grill. Maybe on the AX-1000G...

It's not hard to tweak.
But tweaking to get a good sound will take time and taste and little
bit of creativity.

The manual was good for teaching me how to use the recording function.
The recording function is not good b/c he recording length is very short (about 1 sec).

I'm not sure if this unit has been upgraded.

Sound Quality : 8
I've used this with a washburn G5V (I'd give it a Grade B) and a
Yamaha apx-7 into an 8-channel samson-mixer-amp and speakers. It sounded good.

It can get noisy. And that's frustrating to work out a balance.
It does offer an adjustable Noise-Reduction. But if turned excessively it prematurely cuts off the sound.

Most of the presents aren't so great. But with some tweaking,
ohh, you can get some interesting and usable sounds.
There is this very tasty phaser-type sound that when the cycle of change is set very very slow is impressive.

Chorus wasn't the greatest. Neither was the compressed feature.
Wah isn't very sensitive. I tried putting some foam underneath the pedal to create resistance and more sensitivity and it somewhat worked
but if you want a quality wah; you might want to get an actual pedal for that.
The phasers, flangers were very good.
The distortions are not bad. Neither are the pitch benders
The way you could use the expression pedal to modify different features (delay, wah, pitch, recording of the sound (depending on how you confifured the patch) was a handy tool.

But the overall sound quality, the "oomph" that might exist in say a stand alone pedals or higher-end multi-fx pedals isn't always there.

The other reviewers are right in saying that you can mimic the sounds of other greats to a certain degree.
And the Korg marketing try to lure you in on this fact by the default names they assign to each patch (hendrix, bush, edge...)

For my needs, which were to play around and experiment with a variety of guitar sounds, it suited me fine.

Reliability : 7
I have used it live. It wasn't too bad.

It has stood up to whatever abuse I put to it, which in retrospect, wasn't too much. Maybe a fall here or there.

Usually it stays in my basement.

Been playing for around 4 years. Mostly self-taught, with assitance of a cousin, the internet, and what I hear on recordings and on the stage.

I play worship music; a category that can encompass
rock, soft-rock, gospel.

I tried this first at Guitar Center before bidding on ebay.
And the Cuda patch "hooked" me in to what the pedal could do
and the way it could do when different types of effects are placed together. Which is why I bought it. I had intended to get boss mt-2.
But I opted for this b/c for the variety of sounds it offered at a price that was okay with my budget (which isn't very big!).

Once I have my patches set the way I like em.

I do wish it had a longer record/plaback time for riffs/music that you could play against. And more suited to playing live; i mean if you've recorded something to a certain patch and then you change to another patch and go back to it, the recording riff is gone. Maybe I would like more space for. But I am being rather picky. right?
Can you really expect it do everything?
Anyhow, do most guitarists use recorded riffs and trigger/play with them in a live setting. I am.
Maybe there are other pedals that are more suited to that.

I've been satisfied with it so far. It does help me make music.
For the good sounds that I edit and create with it, it is well worth the price.
I would reccomend to others willing to create and who seeks a variety of sounds at reasonable price.

Email if you have questions or if you own it
and want to exhange/trade the settings for any good sounds
you have for what I have.

This effects unit is pretty straight forward. You should be able to figure it out within an hour at the most. The manual is very helpful if you need it.

Sound Quality : 6
My set up is Fender Squier Strat-(THE CHEAP ONES)-AX1G- & a CRATE GX-15. Needless to say my set up is not very respectable, but its suitable for the time being. Anywho I tried it out on my friends Princeton and it sounded pretty good.I really like the DS2 distortion, very crunchy. The DS1 & fuzz are O.K. but the overdrive is terrible! I also used this unit on Dean & Marshall amp

Reliability : 4
Im not to happy with the plastic configuration but what can do. I would use it on a gig without a backup considering I cant afford a backup right now.

Customer Support : 5
If it broke I would probably try to get the company to fix it for free.

Ive been playing for about a year and half and I bought this unit to get familiar with all the different effects there are to choose from out there. I have to say that it was very usefull in helping me get to know all the different effects that are avaliable. I recomend all beginers to buy a small effects processer like this one to get an idea of what effects you would like to get in the future.

This is one of this processors highlights. Its very easy to use, I havent used a whole lot multi effect processors but this one is probably the easiest. Way easier than any multi effect DOD stuff.
You can easily edit any effect on there (it takes a little while to get down how to do it efficiently but once you do its as easy as pie).

Sound Quality : 9
I have a Cort sp-3 wannabe strat and I run it into this processor than into a 15 watt fender frontman reverb amp. Most of the effects are pretty weak but If you mess with some of the distortions and the EQ you can get a pretty cool sound. ALL of the presets SUCK. You can make them better by editing them but you should definitly do this the first day you buy this thing. Most of them are useless anyways like "AQUA" or "NASHVILLE". I play alot of different styles of music, everything from punk to hardcore, classic rock, metal, blues, jazz, you name it and this processor can pretty much cover it with a decent "practice" quality to it. I dont know if I can get "favorite artists sound" from this but it is definetly a good investment if you want decent tone and alot of effects and modeling options for a low price. I like the "dist 1" which is a high gain distortion and the "Line Distortion" for punk cause it you gives you sort of a grungy, tubey type sound. If you play metal you probably shoudnt get this pedal because its "dist2" (which is like a crunch type distortion) really sucks and dosent have a thick sound to it at all. If you want that type of stuff go get a BOSS metal zone(awsome pedal by the way). This pedal is great for punk though.

Reliability : 10
The expression pedal could get messed up if you threw this thing in a mosh pit but I would use this at a gig without a back up (probably due to the fact that I dont got the cash for a backup) but it seems somewhat reliable. DONT USE BATTERIES. Invest in a power supplie. YOull end spending twice as much on batteries in one week as it cost for a power supply. THis things fallen out of my gig bag while riding my bike to band practice and it still works like new. I have punked mine many a time and its fine. I havent played many gigs with it so far but its lasted. No problems yet. Very dependable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with Korg...knock on wood.

Overall Rating : 10
If you want a decent multi effects pedal with decent sound quality for a dog cheap price this things for you. I was thinking about the digitech RP 100 but I decided on this because I liked the ease of its editing features alot more as well as sound quality. THis pedal is not for the guitarist looking for very high quality tone. Its for the ones with little money but want decent sound and features in an easy to use pedal.

i use this with a cheap strat (i dunno what make) & a second hand amp, and i get a good sound with just single coils. The distortions are a bit weak, but the clean are great. I get a good sound for soft rock, & the sound is ok for punk rock if you crank up the distortion.

It's a little tricky at first but doesn't take long to figure out how to set it up. Very flexible. The manual covers this well enough but it does take some time to master. If you can set up a vcr then you can do this too.

Sound Quality : 10
I've been running mine through a Fender Harvard Reverb II and it sounds great. You can get just about any sound you want out of it. The fuzz function isn't very 'fuzzy' to me but it still sounds good even if you can't get that electric razor sound out of it. It's possible to mock just about any artist out there with this thing.

It's made out of plastic so I don't think it could take a beating, but it's still durable enough to play with.

I play mostly hard rock and classic rock. I've been playing for over 15 years and have always wanted something like this. This thing has 30 pre-sets so you can go from AC/DC to Led Zeppelin with the tap of a foot, unlike single effects which would require you to turn knobs for awhile. It covers all of the sound styles I can think of and it sounds good too. Get an optional power source for it or you'll shelling out for batteries often.

This unit was up and processing within five minutes of opening the box. Korg has done an excellent job of keeping it all simple, the unit is arranged quite nicely to accomodate step by step editing. This is in vast contrast to comparable processors like the Zoom.

Sound Quality : 7
I used this unit with headphones, a BF'd Super Reverb Amp, a Roland JC 120, and a Fender Dual Showman with Reverb, and the results are fairly consistant. There are some excellent Rockabilly sounds from this unit, the reverbs are dynamic. The heavy distortions are a bit noisey, but aren't all distortions just that? Noise and overdrive in the waveform? Proper use of the noise gate yields good useable distortions and drive. S/n ratios are good until rediculous amounts of gain are commanded from the unit.

Reliability : 6
The unit is constructed of braced high-impact molded plastic. The up / down controls are mini pedals that are heavy gauge molds as well. There is no reason to "stomp" this unit, it activates nicely and positively with only slight pressure of the foot. I agree that the expression pedal would do nicely to have more travel in it's linear adjustability. Though the mold is well lined with reinforcement, this is an area, if any that appears to be a weakpoint in the design.

Customer Support : 5
Though I have never dealt with Korg on anything other than their synthesizers, I remebered them to be about average. They were courteous, but not spectacular in dealing from a "New York" state of mind.

Overall Rating : 8
I play blues, rock and fusion. I refuse to compare this processor to any Line 6 products as some of my peers have. It is not a $300 or $400 dollar product. It IS, however the best multi-effects processor I have seen under $160.00. It performs mutiple tasks fairly well and sounds very adequate for gigging. It is not a recording piece overall. I have been playing guitar for some 41 years, and the effects are pronounced, well-defined and versatile enough to make your guitar scream. My favorite feature is the expression pedal, and at the same time I would like to see Korg make it travel farther, and beef it up to accomodate the farther travel. I did compare it to products that were under the $200.00 price range, and I believe it to be the best "bang for the buck"

I've had this unit for about a year now and it's my first multi-effects pedal. I've used single effect pedals in combination for years and this matches them all. It is ridiculously easy to edit the patches. If you don't like the factory presets (which I didn't for most of them) then create your own. The manual was descriptive and I haven't used it since the second day I've owned this.

Sound Quality : 9
I first used this with a Squire Strat customized with a DiMarzzio PAF Pro in the neck and a DiMarzzio Vinnie Moore in the bridge playing through a Crate G80XL. The unit sounded quiet, yet powerful. I have since upgraded my guitar to an Ibanez RG570 90's custom model and the sound remains solid. I don't like all the effects it came with, but those are history. The wah is great and I get a lot of Satch and Eric Johnson tones from this. Technique has something to do with that, however. Straight metal players aren't going to fall in love with this. They should stick to single effect distortion boxes.

Reliability : 9
I have moved three times since owning this and it's been dropped a few times. Still works great. I'd use it in a gig without a backup because good players should be able to get through problems without depending on effects alone. If you HAVE to use effects, and are nervous, better buy two.

I haven't needed them.

I've been playing about 20 years. Jimi, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Steve Howe, Keith Richards, Leo Kottke, Alvin Lee, Ritchie Blackmore,Johnny Winters, Duane Allman, Dickie Betts,Joe Walsh, Gary Rossingill,Billy Gibbons, Bad Company and ACDC are all examples of who I cut my teeth on. Last 5 years it's been Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson,Stevie Ray, John Lee Hooker and Robert Johnson. I also own a Jackson KBX Bass and home recording equipment. If this disappeared I probably would NOT replace it because I can finaaly afford to buy something nicer. I love that it replaces multiple pedals. I am not happy that there's no on/off switch. My favorite feature is the ease of use. All in all, a great unit for the price.

It is easy to use, but as most other digital effects processors, it's left in the dark up against Line 6 POD. It needs more of a "Heavy Metal" sound to the distortion, although ideal for practice and soft blues music.

This unit is one of the easiest processors that I have ever used. I literally just took it out of the box and started to Edit and create new patches. The manual is very useful and it tells you what all the effects are i.e panning, awah, etc.

Sound Quality : 8
I am putting a Stratocaster Replica through this unit, which is going into an Epiphone studio 10 practice amp. There isn't a lot of noise in this if you keep the noise reduction up to the max (30) unless you bring it near a telly or a radio. If you put it into a computer or a stereo, the clean sound can sound twangy, but the distortion goes very well with anything.

I have had the unit for a year now and as of yet it hasn't let me down (touch wood). However I would always use an adapter - I wouldn't trust it on batteries during a gig.

I play rock and blues music, sometimes with a bit of country and it is very good for these styles. If it was stolen or lost, and I had the money, I would probably go for a line 6 pod, not because I don't like the korg, but because of its capability. I love the sound out of the Korg - just the other day I put the guitar straight into the amp and it sounded terrible compared to what it does when the korg is there.

Ease of Use : 8
This unit has terrible stock patches, but once you learn to create user programs, it rocks. Editing is simple, and although the manual is a little help, you will have to learn how to build your own usable patches. This unit is for practice and learning...but you CAN use it live. It can replace several stomp boxes and has a usable wah/volume pedal. For the money, it's a real deal. Just don't expect high dollar sounds for a 100 bones.

Sound Quality : 6
If you use this unit as just simple effects in front of an amp, it can be almost noiseless, if you learn to adjust the NR JUST RIGHT.
Seems to get noisy if you pile more than a couple effects on while running to a direct pa or recording console. I realyy don't like the lack of adjustment on the chorus, but it really fills out when used very marginally.Built a real enough simulation of Hendrix's "Machine Gun" sound and his distorted, wah sound on "Voodoo Chile". But real blues sensitivity is not gonna happen with this digital unit. I was able to build a patch for almost every top 40 song on a set list, but some are just too weak.Too many effects are un-usable, though. The pedal is way usable!

This unit has taken a lot of abuse, but keeps on going. Drops, beer spills, etc. Get an AC adapter; forget batteries! I HAVE used it for a live set-up...but this unit is really best when used for practice and dragged from motel to motel. If it fries, it's cheap enough to replace. I would never use this as a main stage unit, just a back-up and practice unit, although YOU can, if you are gita poor.

Customer Support : 1
What product/customer support?! Korg has plenty of tech help for it's keyboard worksations and such... this unit is not a priority for KORG support.

Overall Rating : 7
I hated the Digitech RP6 I had because the power supply was very stage/travel unfriendly. This unit is better, but doesn't compare in sound. You can get any top 40 sound, but some will be weak, while others can get "right on". I would replace it for a practice unit, but not as a live rig set-up. I personally don't like the chorus, but it's useable. I would like a seperate compressor. It does inspire me...to chunk it, every once in awhile, but then I remember what it's for--practice.
Personally, I would like to find some one to exchange patches with--

Well, the distortions are pretty good. Let me give a description of them. The overdrive is just what is says, its true to its name, but the line overdrive is much smoother and makes less noise. The distortion 1 is what I have been using for my main distortion. It has a good amount of gain and has the best tone for me. The distortion 2 is very similar to the metal zone pedal, huge amounts of distortion. The line distortion is great if you are looking for a great sound with not as much gain as the distortion 1. Editing patches are pretty easy, once you get the hang of it. The manual is very very basic, you're better off trying stuff out for yourself and figuring out how to use it.

Sound Quality : 7
The sound quality for all of the effects are great, the distortions are okay, I play through a Marshall VS65R and and old Ibanez, the distortions are great to just rehearse with, but I wouldn't record with it. Its not that noisy especially with the noise reducer all the way up. I can get a pretty good Mesa/Boogie type sound like most of the guitarists that I listen to (John Petrucci, James Hetfield, Mark Tremonti). I would recommend using the distortion 1 and messing with the EQ to get that type of a sound. The distortion 2 is definately too deep for my tastes

I play prog/rock and metal, hardcore, rock, so this has a lot to offer. The sound quality isn't bad, but I am getting a Line 6 Spider 212, so I'll only be using it for the effects. The wah pedal is very good, I am definately satisfied. Any pedal effect can be turned on/off by pressing down hard until the led light turns on or off. The volume pedal is cool too!! The delay settings can be set for the volume level of the delay and the delays per second. This is a great multi-processor for a starter, it will last you a good while until you want to move onto bigger and better and more expensive things

Very VERY easy to use, I had it for 5 minutes and I was already on editing my own effect. And this is my first effect unit!! Editing patches are very easy to use. Oh yeah and I bought it second hand without a manual.

Sound Quality : 8
I've just used it through my 25 watt Ibanez practise amp as yet and my Ibanez GRX with 1 humbucker and 2 single pickups. It is quite loud, well it can be anyway. The mellow effects sound exellent but does lack a bit when it comes to the distortion and overdrive effects. But I recomend you should use a distortion pedal through it if you want heavy stuff eg: Boss DS-2 or Boss Metal zone. I can get quite a good range of my fave artist sounds out of this, phaser sounds like P.O.D, and I have made a pretty good distortion that sounds quite close to incubus. Most of the effects are good but a few lack it a bit, the distortion is quite fuzzy or muffled but that just might be my amp??

Reliability : 7
Well no problems so far but it uses batteries up very quick. So if I played a gig I would definateley bring spares. Also the screen is not back lit so a bit hard to see at a gig as well.

No probs as yet, quite a long guarentee as well. I think??

I play nu-metal/emo stuff and it suits it very well. I have been playing for coming up to a year now, i own a Boss DS-2 as well witch i use for distortion(i dont use the effects unit). If it was stolen I probably would buy it again, but if something better came up then I'd get that. I love the simpleness and the range of effects on this model. I don't HATE anything about it but I'm just not THAT keen on the overdrive/distortion in it. My best feature is the phaser effect, it just sounds soooo cool. It definateley helps my playing I sond so much better with it.

This pedal was very easy to use. I was getting sounds from it from the first five minutes. I did not even have to look at the owners manual till after a couple of weeks, and that was only when I wanted to edit the 69 preset modes. The preset modes were very easy to use. You press a button and the display scans all of the effect's names. I could see how this pedal would be hard to use in a gig because you cannot just jump to a different effect durring a song; you have to wait until it comes up on the display after scanning for a about 15 seconds.

Sound Quality : 8
After a while, the preset modes get kind of borring. Some of them sound crappy, but they are fun to expeiriment with. The "aqua" preset is kind of ridiculous. It is basically just the sound of running water behind you guitar playing. I have found no use for it yet. The real fun is when you edit the presets. You can add flange, Wah, delay, bender, octave, and other effects. I am not too particular about most of my sounds. If I was going to make an album, I would use the real things for my gear. I would use the highest quality, most expensive gear, but this pedal is good for getting sounds that sound very close to your favorite artist's. I particularly like to mimic some of Prince's guitar effects with this pedal, but I think you can make this pedal sound like anything. It certainly has enough effect options, but I am not sure about their quality. This pedal would be excellant for a beginner in effects, that is what I am. I definetly get much more use out of this pedal than I did my crybaby, and they are about the same price. When I first got this pedal, I was very excited. It sounded like nothing I had ever used before. It added much more variety to my playing. Before I got this pedal, the only effects I had to use were distortion and wah. now I can use Flange, delay, octave, bender. I do not like the bender; it gives a little delay and the ounds sound artficial when I use it.
I have been playing for about 2 years. I play a cort x and I use this pedal through a P.A. The pedal sounds overall good to me, but I have never used any of the real effects this product features (except for wah which there wasn't much difference in overall). Therefore, I have nothing to compare else it too. I use the AX1G SO MUCH MORE than my crybaby it is ridiculous.

Reliability : 8
I don't see why I cannot use it durring a gig. It is only hard to change effects durring a song. I would make sure I have fresh batteries though, because this thing relly uses them up. When you play at home,You use an ac adaptor, so don't worry about battery costs. It has never stopped working on me at home.

I got this thing From Musician's friend. I have never had any problems with this product, so therefore, I have never dealt with the company.

Overall Rating : 10
This product is great over all. I would definitley buy another one if it got stolen. I do not know where else I could get all of the effects this pedal offers for the same price. This pedal covers all of the basic sounds. maybe it won't sound exactly like metalica, but it is close.

Just as with all mult-effects pedals that I have come across (Zoom, Digitech, Boss) the AX1G is a pain in the arse to edit. It's not difficult, in fact you get used to its procedure quite easily, but it is very fiddly and repetitive. The manual is pretty bog-standard, but is little help when confronted by the appalling display - tiny, badly designed and not even backlit! The expression pedal has a ridiculously short path of travel, making it next to useless - particularly for wah effects.

Sound Quality : 2
Single coils, humbuckers, big amps, little amps, headphones - no matter what you try, this is a truly awful guitar processor. The effects are bland and glossy (as with nearly all multi pedals) and the distortions! Absolute crap - really bad overdrives and fuzz, some of the worst I have ever heard. Without the inbuilt noise gate (not bad) the unit is noisier than a '70s synth, and the cabinet emulator will not give the people at Line 6 sleepless nights that's for sure. Why haven't I thrown it out? Because as with many bad guitar toys in my experience (the Marshall 9000 pre-amp springs to mind) it's great for DI recording bass with! Even the delays and reverbs sound better with bass, and the ring modulator sounds fabulous on a drum machine. So, useless for guitar (its intended purpose remember, hence low rating) but a handy toy for the studio nonetheless.

Reliability : 3
I wouldn't dream of taking it out of the studio. It's made from shitty plastic and the expression pedal would be doomed within minutes. It's also hard to change sounds on the fly and the display is practically unusable. Also I have never been able to get the scratch effect to work.

I got my AX1G as part of a bulk second-hand purchase, I diddn't particularly want it but I got it. It's been quite useful as a bass pre-amp/FX box, but as soon as I get a Bass Pod, I will be getting rid of it. As a guitar unit it does not met my requirements at all, but I've always been disappointed by multi-FX units, especially floor-pedals. If you can find one cheap enough it's worth playing with for a while, but it cannot really be recommended as a useful tool.

Incredibly easy to use. The manual is of reasonable quality but you won't need it anyway.

Sound Quality : 6
The preset patches are horrid. All of them. Change them before you get sucked in! Argh!

Most of the effects are top quality, in particular the delay, which has a cool reverb thing which can make it sound like you're playing in a really big room or something. Chorus and flanger are top quality. The noise reduction feature is killer, but it can cut off notes prematurely if you have it set too high. Cabinet resonator feature is good if you want to plug straight into a mixer. The wah is as good as you'll find from any seperate pedal.

Gripes: the pitchshifter is fixed, and the tone bender has a slight delay between you play the sound and the sound coming out. It's only really slight but it makes it impossible to play with it switched on. The octaver doesn't work when you play chords. The 'random' effect is nasty. You cant use two modulation effects at a time - a real irritant.

Reliability : 10
No problems with it at all. I've trodden on it several times and it's still in one piece. Drains batteries real fast, but I got an AC adapter with it totally gratis so it doesn't bother me.

I tend to play stuff like Rage Against The Machine and punk rock. For these purposes, and at such a pitifully low price, less than the price of a good wah pedal, it's impossible to beat. And lets face it, it looks much better than a Zoom.

Sound Quality : 7
i use this processor with an ibanez plugged into a fender frontman 25R. the distortions when turned up all the way are noisy and fuzzy. there is a noise reducer, but it doesnt cut all the extra noise out. i suggest getting a boss noise suppressor to put in the effects chain after it. although it doesnt have amp modeling, you can get some good sounds like fender amps and mesa boogies. the drone effect is really annoying, its kind of a high pitched indian sounding squeel. pretty crazy. i dont see the pint of having that on there

One thing with this processor is it has to many superfluous effects. I mean they should have put more diverse overdrives and distortions on this thing. It's pretty easy though to figure out how to use. i think that the patch editing is really meticulous though.

Sound Quality : 6
i don't know why but I can never get a totally awesome sound out of this processor. the noise reduction is ok. and again, the effects seemed to be aimed more towards people who aren't serious guitarists (which it probably is considering the price.) I also don't like how you can't use 2 different mods, or what not together..

Reliability : 9
It is pretty dependable except that little plastic stub that activates the scratch and loop effects (you think they would have noticed that when they were testing it out...) I would probably use it at a gig, since i don't really have that much more stuff to use. but if it was a bigger gig, i would stay away from the multi-effect processors altogether.

Ease of Use : 10
This unit is very easy to use. It took me all of five minutes to figure out how to access all the settings. Everything can be edited smoothly and quickly under the following categories: Drive, EQ, Modulation, Pedal, Reverb, Noise Reduction, Cabinet Resonator, Level, Description. This processor is amazingly easy to use for the unbelievable number of effects it squeezes in.

There are only three buttons you can push with your foot: Preset Up, Preset Down, and the Expression Pedal. Preset Up and Preset Down simply switch to the previous or the next preset, while the Expression Pedal can be assigned to any one of about 30 effects, such as wah, volume, or flange.

The AX1G has 30 presets arranged into 3 banks of 10. ALL of the presets can be modified and saved; none of them are locked into being factory defaults. The digital display shows you the name of the preset (6 characters including numbers), a separate LED number shows you the preset number (0 through 9), and another LED is lit up green, yellow or red, depending on which of the three banks you're in. The banks are all consecutive, so if you go up from number 9 in red bank, you will be in number 0 in green bank. Very nice and intuitive. Also, when you switch from one preset to the next, there is no delay or drop-out. This allows for smooth, seamless shifting between presets.

To edit a preset, the editing buttons are very small, but well laid-out. I couldn't have designed it better myself. However, it is just about impossible to edit a preset while you are playing. If you decide you want a different type of distortion, you have to stop playing, lean over, and press the buttons with your fingers. (This is a problem with most guitar processors, so I can't really fault the AX1G for it.)

The Expression Pedal can be turned on or off by pushing hard on it. This is a very useful feature when you want to go directly from a screaming wah to a harsh distortion without changing the preset. The built-in chromatic tuner is fabulous. It quickly auto-detects which string you're playing, and allows you to tune it accurately and quickly. It can be activated on the fly simply by pressing both the Preset Up and Preset Down buttons at the same time with your foot - very handy! It even mutes the sound if you hold the pedals down for 2 seconds, allowing you to tune in silence. The tuner itself is fabulous; it will tune a bass guitar just as accurately and easily as an electric or an acoustic. I don't think I'll ever need a better tuner than this.

There are no deep, obscure settings to mess around with. Just straight out editing. The trickiest thing is figuring out exactly how each modification affects the sound (but that's not an ease of use issue - that's a sound quality issue). This gets an A+ for overall ease of use.

Sound Quality : 8
Before I bought the AX1G I did some research, and discovered that the general consensus was that this unit outperforms the Zoom 505 in sound quality. Well, a guy in my band had a Zoom 505, and it sounded pretty nice (not perfect, but good). So I bought this pedal with fairly high expectations.

When I got the thing, I was a little scared by some of the factory presets. They really sounded awful with my guitar (unless you're into some pretty weird music). So I started messing with the presets, trying out all the effects. I quickly discovered some awesome-sounding settings, using various types of distortion, flanger, and reverb effects. This quickly led me to the conclusion that THE FACTORY PRESETS STINK! The only good one is "FUNKY". But if you're willing to spend time editing this baby and experimenting with different effect combinations, I guarantee that you will come up with some excellent sounds.

The heart of this processor's sound is its drive. There are 7 different types of drive, and you can only use one at a time:
1) Compression. Nothing special here, just puts a smooth, quiet compression to balance your guitar and give it some sustain.
2) Overdrive. Designed to sound like tube distortion. It does a good job for a digital unit, but it doesn't have quite enough crunch to it. It also kills the highs from your guitar.
3) Line Overdrive. Similar to Overdrive, but supposedly designed to sound better when recording directly to tape. This drive actually sounds more like a blues setting. When on low, it just puts a smooth, soft sound on your guitar. When on high, it can turn your guitar into a smooth, muffled scream that words can't fully describe. Very unique - and very cool!
4) Distortion 1. Basic, but this is the real thing. When you think of the word "distortion", this is probably the sound that comes to your mind. It sounds like a good transistor distortion from a typical amp with its overdrive switch on. This is your basic workhorse growl.
5) Distortion 2. Metal, baby! This is a seething distortion that will put your teeth on edge with its cutting scream and grinding blast of sound. Crank this one up, and you can bring the walls down with kickin' rock.
6) Line Distortion. This distortion is designed to give a better sound when going directly into tape. Forget that, it just sounds good - period! When on low, it puts a slick, buttery distortion into your sound. When on high, it turns your guitar into sort of a "tearing" or "ripping" distortion. It's slightly muffled, but sharp and cutting. This sound is BAD!! I can't quite place the sound, but it's totally awesome for roaring solos and funky stuff. Korg really nailed a new, distinctive tone with this one.
7) Fuzz. This is the crunchy one. If you want a strong, thick, crunchy tone, this is the one for you. It picks up where the Overdrive leaves off, putting solid, full frequency character into the sound. Sounds great for solos. The only drawback is that this distortion tends to add hiss to the sound (all the others are pretty quiet).

The drive settings are possibly the best part about the Korg AX1G. Having used all of the drives quite extensively, the only thing I wish is that there were more of them! (For example, a blackface or acoustic sound would be nice.)

The EQ comes right after the drive. Here, you can adjust low, medium, and high frequencies. The medium EQ is actually parametric; you can use it to adjust a low-mid, mid-mid, or high-mid range. The low EQ works really well, adding depth and fullness to the sound. The medium EQ is incredibly versatile, with the parametric bands located in just the right places. The high EQ is essential to bring out the sparkle in the guitar, but unfortunately it also brings out a hiss. I would actually be able to coax a rather nice acoustic sound out of my guitar if it wasn't for this bothersome hiss. But I quickly learned to work ar

Reliability : 10
The AX1G is made of plastic, with a thin metal plate on the bottom. It's doesn't look especially sturdy, but looks are deceiving. This unit is actually amazingly tough. It's very light and small, and the plastic actually seems to provide a shock-absorbing effect. Despite the cheap appearance, the AX1G is actually very well constructed. Mine is still in exactly the same shape as when I got it, despite fairly intensive use.

The expression pedal, although small and with little range of movement, seems to be bolted on quite securely. I don't think I'd be able to break the pedal. One thing that annoys me sometimes is that you have to push REALLY hard on the toe end of the pedal to switch it into loop recording mode (and almost as hard just to switch it on or off). This is probably so you don't activate the loop mode by accident, but I really don't see that happening. Oh well.

As far as the electronics go, this unit is very reliable IF you are not using batteries. The batteries work just fine when they're fresh, but when they're weak, the unit may suddenly power off and back on again. This happened to me several times when I was trying to use one of the filter modulation effects. Plugging into an adapter solved that problem immediately. I just use a generic 9V DC adapter (not the expensive one specially designed for the unit).

If you're running on an adapter, the AX1G should not give you any problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had any problems with mine.

Overall Rating : 10
This is actually my first guitar processor; I don't own any others yet. (I'm planning on upgrading to a Digitech RP-2000.) However, I play with music a lot on headphones or stereo speakers, and I am often pleasantly surprised by how well the sound can blend with the musicians' guitars (especially after a little tweaking). I'm not the best person to ask when it comes to vintage sounds, but I've heard some good ones from other guitar players. If I'm willing to experiment with various settings, I can usually get pretty close to those sounds with the AX1G.

My three biggest gripes are:
1) Only one modulation can be used at a time. This means you can't do a wah and a chorus at the same time, etc.
2) There aren't enough drive sounds. I really would like to have a greater variety of amp and speaker sounds.
3) The expression pedal cannot be used to control the amount of drive. The pedal will do just about everything else, but not the drive. Sometimes I just want to be able to gradually crank up the distortion by pressing down on the expression pedal. No can do.

Overall I think this processor is excellent at what it was designed to do: Offer an excellent entry-level guitar processor at a bargain price. I got mine for a paltry $75, and Musician's Friend has it regularly for $100. If you don't have a multi-effect pedal yet, what are you waiting for? Get an AX1G and see what you're missing out on!

Its easy to use out of the box, but takes a while to get a feel for when creating your own patches. I have a system I use now that works quite well for me. More on that later. So, easy to use as it comes but more difficult to master customizing, so I'll give it a 6.

OK, here's where it gets intersting. The factory presets are mostly terrible. I think they all have an "over the top", almost cartoonish feel to them. I have only 1 of the factory presets left, "Aqua" which is interesting enough I wrote a song for it. The rest are good starting places but need work. So here's my secret system. Build a patch from the bottom up that sounds just like the bypassed sound. This way you have a reference point to start from. Add your effects from there. I usually use the pedal for volume, although I DO use the wah and reverb settings for the pedal sometimes as well. Generally, I find that 1/3 to 1/2 of the available range for a setting is best. Over that it gets to busy or noisy. When I work in this fashion I get terrific tone. Good cutting overdrive and lush chorus and reverb. Most people who ask about my rig are amazed to find I'm using this cheapy pedal.

I play in a working band, we do classic rock, R&B, and blues - the typical 100 songs you need to survive in bars. I've been playing over 20 years. I own several guitars, from Strats & Teles to a Les Paul. My favorite axe is a Carvin Bolt. My main working amp is a "stock" Peavy Classic 30 (buy one). I didn't buy this intending to use it for gigs. I bought it for the headphone option so I could use it in motel rooms to practice. If I could have one feature added it would be harmony. If it gets lost or quits working I would consider getting another one. Once you master creating patches I'll put it up against a Pod.

Bought it used, with no manual. Figured out how to edit patches within an hour. How simple does it get?

Sound Quality : 8
Used with Jim Deacon (Korean) Strat copy and Marshall G-10 practice amp, excellent tone, even for the Zeppelin/Free/Sabbath stuff I like to play. Used through a Carlsbro Cobra P.A. setup, it turns it into a serious guitar amp. I've even used it to add effects to my Jazz Bass copy, something it wasn't really designed for, and been very happy with the results.

Reliability : 6
Eats batteries like there's no tomorrow, the optical sensor on the expression pedal is a bit on/off, but it's tough and I'd trust it.

Never had a problem, so sorry, can't answer this one.

For blues/rock playing on a budget, this is the dogs whatsits. I've been playing for 26 years, and if this baby had been available when I started out, I'd probably be a better player now. It just gives out the sounds that put a stupid smile on your face when you're playing.

I bought this in an afternoon, and by bed time I had created two or three wicked effects. It took me about 6 months to really master it, and now , 2 years on, I've created some absolutely amazing sounds. Editing patches is well easy, it's simply a matter of scrolling through various short menus, and selecting what you like. The manual is OK, I've never really used it much though.

Sound Quality : 10
I play an Epiphone SG400 Custom 3 pickup through a 150 Watt Marshall Valvestate 2000. I've read a lot of the reviews here with people complaining about not getting the noise they want. What are you on about? You just need to h ave patience. I managed to emulate Nick McCabe from the Verve, and that's difficult to get. The noise isn't half as bad as most these people are making out. On some noises it's a bit irritating (backwards sample/loop thingy especially) but nothing to cry about it. You can make really awful noises on it as well as good 'uns though. My favourite artists are Verve, Oasis, Blur (I even managed to replicate Graham Coxon's introduction to 'On Your Own' with this pedal) and I can get almost exactly the same sound as any of these with time and temperence. The phase, flange, chorus are great, and my band have an entire song based around a backwards guitar loop I created with this pedal (you can hear it at www.lynam.org.uk - it's in the songs section and is called 'backwards Slide').

Reliability : 6
Sometimes the plug I use comes out, and recently it's developed a habit of jumping 10 effects up or down, which is odd. But mines been covered in shit, kicked, dropped from car parks etc and it's fine.

Never had to mate.

I play British rock / indoe and it's cracking for that. Recently I've developed a very unique style for myself, and this pedal is instrumental for it. I've been playing 4 yearsd now, and I don't think I need another pedal. If it were nicked or lost, I'd probably get summat a bit newer or perhaps seperates, but if I only had 99 quid, I'd buy this again. I chose this over Zoom pedals because the background noise on the Zooms pissed me off, and this didn't really have loud background noise. I wish it was made of metal coz it would look better. Anything else I'd like to share? Only my love and peace, brothers and sisters.

its very easy to edit patches;just spend ten mimutes with the manual...
getting easy sound-no problem(on my setup at least)

Sound Quality : 9
for me sound quality is 9&three quarters.
it is some noisy especially on distortion settings, but nothing that exellent nr cant take off.
i use a 50watt hohner force amplifier(solid state) with yamaha rgx721(for european market).before korg i was upset cause i couldnt get a fat sound for leads, and i always had to make my amp very loud to get some good rhytm stuff.let me tellya,i doubded that ax1g can solve my problem, man i was wrong!
now i have severall excellent patches for clean distortion for hard music aka kravitz with great lead sound.the sound is almost tubey, and this aint no bullshit man!!!metal distortion no problem-very trashy alike metallica.
modulation effects great especially flanger.its great for clean stuff.
phaser great especially pedal phaser for great van halen warping stuff.
wah great too.tremolo not too warm.ring modulator is shit on this unit, but is shit as an effect itself, too.chorus everything from deep moving to brightvibrato.

Reliability : 7
its made of plastic so it snot sturdy as metal but seems solid enough
i would certainly dare to gig with it.

i play mostly rock and some metal, and cllasic guitar.distortions are great for rock, but this aint for lazy people, you have to tweak it alot to found your heaven bit it will surely come.for most of the people my hohner amp would be crap, but i can get excellent rhytm, and especially
lead sound because i realised that i have solid state not tube amp,and decided not to cry over it,but to make it decent sound and i have succed.and this baby costs only 100$.
so come on you tube freaks that spit on solid states be jelaous...
EXCELLENT

It's really easy to use, as far as hooking it up and making it work, unless you're an idiot. But the damn thing sucks if you switch between alot of effects...get stomp boxes if you're gonna do that stuff. This thing takes me forever to toggle from one effect to another and the display is hard to read in the dark.

Sound Quality : 6
I use this with a washburn Bt-8 and a dumb little Peavey Blazer 158. The washburn's humbuckers make so much stupid noise all the time..I can't really tell if the Korg has anything wrong with it. I'd get better equipment but my main instrument is Trumpet (music major) And I need to spend my time and money more on that. the distortion effects are all kind of wussy in my opinion, I got into guitar for the sole purpose of playing metallica, these effects pale in comparison to James' or kirk's heavy crunch...so for now I just mess with the weirder effects like Aqua, and Stevie, I've never really figured out the custom effects thing, not enough patience to fiddle with it. But its still fun to screw around with.

Reliability : 8
I can depend on it for a garage jam with friends but I'd never play a Gig with it Stomp boxes are the way to go friends.

Customer Support : No Opinion
haven't messed with them

I play heavy metal guitar, Metallica, Sabbath, Deftones, Slipknot (limp bizkit sucks) and i also play alot of industrial stuff on my guitar, KMFDM mostly. This is a good processor for a cheap ass like me, but I need stomp boxes for a gig. If you just need alot of effects for your money, buy it its a good deal.

If you plug in and play, you can get a few good sounds just by cycling through the pre-programmed patches. This was my first effects unit, and at the start this is all I wanted to do.

Programming patches is pretty self explanitary, hit the edit button and away you go. It's just a case of finding what you like and saving it.

I read through the instructions manual a couple of monthes after getting the unit for a bit of fun. Nothing in there that you particularly need to know to be honest.

But here it is, this is me, ploclaiming to the world that i am an idiot: It took me about a year to get the pedal stomp to work. Basically i found it too stiff, its not just a case of leaning on the tip of the pedal, you hve to kick the sh!t ou t of it. But hey, it happens...

Oh, and one more thing, it would have been nice if Korg had included an option to cycle through the effects while in bypass mode, so you can change during a song without having the sound intermittent patches affecting your sound.

Sound Quality : 7
At the moment, i'm using it with a shitty Peavey Raptor... I dunno the otehr details... its red? Through a Peavey Rage practice amp. Just so you know both of these are being replaced in the next few months, so i'll update with my new equiptment when i have it. BUT, At the moment:

I like to get a sound thats kinda extreme, so, noise isn't so much as a problem for me as it is for others, editing my own patches, i've gotten some mental Flanging that i like to use at the start of some songs and stuff like that. I like some of the pre-programmed distortion.

OK, so it's not the best sounding pedal in the world, but, for the price you don't exppect it to be.

Oh, and the sampling doesn't let you sample for long enough.

Reliability : 7
It's never diedon me, and i've used it on stage. Oh, but if you are gigging, use an adapter for sure, because it is quite a hungry little beast.

I wouldn't want to stomp it too hard mind.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Dunno, never used them.

Overall Rating : 7
If you're starting out, then this is a good multi-effects unit to get, you get a lot of variety to play around with and it'll give you hours of pleasure.

I'd like to get a new bigger Korg M.E Unit but until my income increases, this'll do me fine.

This thing is pretty easy to use. It has a display comparable to that of an old casio calculator. You can switch trough pages and the pedals are easy to use.
The manual is easy to read accept for the appendix chapter (too many languages mixed up with each other.
Though a new user will not directly know how to use it because the text per button is weird and unclear Ill give it a eight

Sound Quality : 7
My configuration Aria pro2>This thing>an Onkyo middle-aged amplifier.
Ok the compressor of this thing somehow sucks. It has an irritating noise when playing nothing. And it amplifies too much. The sound distorts on chords and using and a humbucker sounds useless on this setting.
The distortion is OUT OF THIS WORLD I even managed to get the metallica s&m sound out of this thing by combining it with the autowha.
The fuzz and the overdrive cant get an opininion out of me since I dont use them that much.
The modulators sound original. And what I like for certain is the guitar amp simulation. (It comes out handy when using it on a normal radio like I do)
Almost every modulation sounds well accept the chorus and the octave shifter they just sound too damn digital.
The sustain, especialy the digital delay rocks. You can really make it sound like youre giggin in a concert room.
So far I think think this thing sounds exeptionally well. Bust ill give it a seven because not all the effect are that great.

Reliability : 8
This thing is made of plastic but not of the worst plastic we know. I mean I have been reading the other opininions out here, Who on earth is going to jump on a device wich he payd so much for. I think destroying a device is always your own fault (the expensive ones at least)
Ok you cant stamp on it so it isn't immortal like a boss so ill give it an eight because it doesnt fall apart without a reason.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I never had to deal with anyone. Most musical products are made to stay alive

Overall Rating : 7
I play metallica, only that for know until I can play each solo perfectly blind or dehadded. As you understand it isnt easy to find the right distortion and I must admit I cant get everything with this thing but a lot more then a stomp box. Besides this thing has them all for an terribly cheap price.
Since I dont play in a band anymore I dont have any other instruments.
But I do have a boss DS-2 wich sounds sucks compared to my multifx processor. Besides the DS-2 can be found back within this thing anyway.
I have compared the AX1 with a MT-2 once. but I cant find that much difference.
If this thing ever gets lost or stolen I will search for and even better device bust it satisfies me for now.
O yeah. The tuner is a cool option, very usefull if you go to somebody
and forget your tuner.
Compared to its price it sounds a heck better than all the other crap available.

Fairly easy to use. Patch cord from guitar into AX1G and cord out to amp. (Squier fat tele to AX1G to 35 year old Gibson scout type all tube amp). Up and down switch to page through preset effects. Peddle is O.K., biggest problem I can see (aside from plastic construction, but hey it was $99, duh...) is limited movement range. Would be nice if it had another 1/2' to 1' of movement. Manual says sort of small and slow movement and that's what it takes.

I haven't experimented to much with creating my own sounds, but the presets are really easy to use and many of them are sort of prebuilt layered effects already.

It would be nice to have seprate switches for each tone bank (I.E.: a fuzz channel, echo, chrous etc...) for more direct acess, but still fairly easy to page through.

Big down side - would an individual on/off power switch have been a real big price increase? I'm not enamored with having to unplug it everytime I want to shut it down (I paid like $7.99 for a Danlectro power pack. Batteries? We don't need no stinking batteries!). The small finger switches are a bit much to be fiddling with in low light/no light situations.

Sound Quality : 9
As stated above I have a '99 Squier Fat Tele (fender type single coil lead pickup and a double coil humbucker in rythem position, 3 posistion switch) plugged into AX1G to a 35 year oldish Gibson scout type all tube amp with trmelo and reverb (maybe 25 watts). The amp is normally a little noisy, but I have been getting a real good sound out of the straight ahead above mentioned combination.

Most of the settings are surprizingly clean, most of them sound great. I was a little worried because the store demo model was plugged into and amp and out a roland monitor and was noisy and weak in a lot of positions. I like most of the settings (some like aqua are fun, but a little silly).

Unlike some reveiwers I get a great range of sounds, some real blusy sounds all the way through death metal (from Stevie Ray, to Lenny Kravitz and Metallica). (Hint play around with it, no patients has the instant gratification generation). For a pretty fair wah try using the "funky" patch along with the expression peddle.

Reliability : 8
I don't gig much, but I might consider using it on a limited basis (I should have a back-up? =;-).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't used, but if lasts a year or two, then I've probably got my money out of it.

Overall Rating : 10
I play alot of differt rock, from classic to metal and it gives me a wide range of sound choices. I've been playing of and on for about 25 years (owned alot of gear and have seen alot of it die at the worst moments regardless of construction or price paid. Often from neglect and outright abuse. Take care of your shit or it will die quickly, no matter how expensive or toughly constructed).

If it was lost or stolen for this price I'd think about another one or a Digitech. Compared it to Digitech and Zoom multieffects and a slew of seperate peddles (DOD, Boss, Danlectro etc..).

Love the range of sounds and price (yes it maybe it is a notch or so above a toy but what a toy). Could use direct acess to sound type banks, on/off switch and maybe a backlite for the liquid crystal read out. Bigger peddle with greater range of movement would be worth a little extra money to pay. But...Hell just a chorus and distorion or fuzz box would have cost this much and what's a seprate wah or expression peddle go for? $60-150 easily.

Spend the extra $8-10 and buy a Danlectro no hum 9V power pack.

Really has broadened my horizons in a hurry. Enjoy the hell out of it w/o having to worry about a 1/2 dozen boxes, the acompanying knobs, patch cords and settings. If you don't have alot of dough or just want to have a good time with some effects options the AX1G is a good way to get some real bang for your buck.

Hard to get a good sound out of it. Ive had it quite a long time and i still havent been able to. Pretty easy to use though, it just sounds like shit. The manual was very informitive.

I play an ESP M-255 through this to a Peavey Bandit 65. Its pretty noisy. It has noise reduction but if you turn it up past 15 there is no sustain. I hate this frickin pedal. The only thing that sounds decent on it is the chorus and the wah. I play a lot of Metallica and if you like metal dont even think about getting a good Metallica distortion cause this thing sucks. The reverb is a total joke so i have to use the reverb on my amp which is terrific.

This is my problem. Everything works pretty much ok except that when i turn the volume up on my amp with any distortion whatsoever on it it feed backs horribly. I hate that it must've ruptured my eardrums by now. If anyone could tell me how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

Some sounds are nice. Some bad. I don't use distortions cause I like Andy Summers - and Edge-style compressed, flangered, chorused etc. sounds. Overall, it's a very noicy device, which means it's OK by using headphones, but absolutely bad by amp in high volume and in gigs.

I have a customized 1962 Fender Strat with Di-Marzio-coils etc. and Marshall 65 W valvestate amp.

But this device is OK for home use. Its plastic, and if you do serious gigging, by Korg 1000. But it's also very handy. Aaand ABSOLUTELY worth the price.

I've been played for about 25 years. Starting from heavy rock, then moving to punk and after that to classic stuff. Now I do some kind of self-made fusion.

Previously I had a Gibson SG and Peavey.Peavey is a very good amp but I sold it. Fender's own amp is my next buy. Marshalls are OK, but noisy and too rocky for middle-age man.

KORG AX1G is not that easy to use . But once you get into the swing of it , you can easily create new patches . Editing these patches are - as I said - not that easy , but I think it ' s easier than the ZOOM 1010 , 2100 , 3030 , 4040 ... I think KORG ' s manual for the AX1G will suffice many people . Once you read the manual , you ' ll be able to use the AX1g easier .

I am using American Fender Stratocaster , Marshall Amp , Morley Bad Horsie Wah . If the gain value is too high , then you ' ll have a wonderful noise :) The distortion effect is total a joke - overdrive too ! Getting the sound of you favourite artists : Forget About It ! I liked the WAH of this pedal , it really RULES - KORG AX1G = 150 $ and you have a wah sound . The reverb is very bad , the chorus , flanger are total a joke .
