Editing sounds is a bit fiddly, lots of button pushing and knob twiddling. The whole process is semi menu driven, based around three basic 'chains' of effects.
This can be quite limiting (eg overdrive, eq and compression will always come before flanging, chorus, delay etc.), and certainly not as flexible as individual stomp boxes, but multi fx units are always going to be a compromise.
The manual is not bad, detailing all the different functions individually, and giving some advice about overall setups.
It's virtually impossible to change sounds 'on the fly', but with 16 patches available in each of two areas, this isn't too much of a problem. Coupled with the ability to switch each effect in a chain in and out individually, makes the unit fairly flexible.

Sound quality on this unit is pretty good, at least as good as most stomp boxes, and better than quite a few.
Some of the factory presets are great. Basschorus impressed me enough that I use it as standard without tweaking it, and Ultrabass, which just sounds massive. (Try it with a fretless, it's like the Mark Sandman sound - superb)
Other presets (Fuzzscuzz springs to mind) are probably best avoided. In the end, it's all a matter of personal taste.
My biggest problem with the unit is the expression pedal, which allows you to alter one parameter by pressing down on a pedal. There's only about a 1/4 inch of travel in the onboard pedal - you really need the extension pedal to make good use of this feature.

Not a particularly robust unit. Wouldn't survive being jumped on, so be careful. Particularly dodgy is the AC input socket, although there is a strain relief pin to wrap the cable round.
I don't use a backup live, but it's not gone wrong yet. If it came to it I'd just plug bass straight into amp.

Overall, not a bad unit. If you want lots of fairly good quality sounds for not much money, then it's a good bet. If you're looking for a unit to take on the road, or something that's easy and intuitive to use, then buy stomp boxes.

Fairly easy. Too much clicking though, knobs would've been better.

Playing a fender precision deluxe through it. Very usable sounds. Phaser and Auto wah sounds are actually better than my Boss pedals. I decent chorus sound. I like the ability to fade in effects with the X pedal. Don't like that you can only switch sounds in a linear fashion, so you have to step ten times to get to a sound in the next bank. Best unit around for the price.

Its not the most most rugged thing, so you better baby it.
