Basically a slab of plastic with 4 pedals and some knobs. For gigging: Each pedal has 4 preset effects, so 16 total. You can modify the pre-sets to suit your taste or make new ones and assign them to the pedals. Has EQ, Compression, Distortion, Chorus, Delay, Reverb, Echo, Trem, NR, you name it. This thing can make some funky-ass sounds. If your a recording type, you can fiddle around with the dials and buttons forever. It's actually very inspiring. I used to have a floor full of noisy little effects boxes. This is so much better. Oh yeah, has a built in tuner too.

This little plastic thing actually sounds really great, the only problem is the matrix-editing which can get a bit anoying at times.
When I first bought this little thing the sound-editing was a big mystery to me, but when I had read the manual it all felt more logic.
Still the manual could have been a bit more clear about things!

I play a 2002 Gibson SG Standard, and a Squier Standard Stratocaster and they both sound great with the AX3G.
Like many other guitar-multieffects this thing can get a bit noisy when using to much gain, but it works just fine with humbuckers.
Most of the built-in effects sound ok, i don't really like the compressor where it could have been a few more editable parameters. I love the delay-effects and I could sit around and play with the filtron-effects for hours!
It also has got the basic setup of overdrive/distortion-pedals and amps, just to mention a few: Ibanez TS-808, RAT, Fuzz, Fender Twin, Vox AC15 & AC30TB, Marshall Plexi, JCM800 & JCM2000.....
I use this thing with a pair of headphones, or connect it to the computer or the stereo.
I play a lot of styles, mainly rock, pop, blues and some metal as well, and I can nail pretty much all of those tones with this unit!
The ampmodels I find myself using the most are Shred, Black 2x12, AC30TB and UK MDN.
I rate this a 9 cause I still think that there will be some time before an ampmodeller will sound just as good as the real deal.

As said before it's made of plastic.
I wouldn't use this at a gig not just because it's a bit fragile but it would be really difficult to try and edit your sounds on a dark stage using those small dials.

At the moment I don't play in a band, I just play at home for fun and the AX3G is a great match!
I've been playing guitar for about 16 years now, and it's amazing how greatsounding this pedal is compared to my first multieffects-unit which was the Boss ME-6 (haha).
If it were stolen I would probably buy another one (cause it's so cheap).
I've owned a lot of other guitar-multieffects for instance Boss GX700, Boss GT-6, V-amp2, Yamaha Magicstomp, Rocktron Chameleon, Pod 2.0, Pod XT, Guitarport, Vox Tonelab, and Korg AX3G is definitely one of the bestsounding so far!
I really wish it was made of metal and had deticated buttons and knobs.
To my ears this things sounds just as good as the more expensive Vox Tonelab, I have never before heard such a tube-sounding ampmodeller!!
(And it's made of plastic!)

I have owned this effects processor for more than 8 years and it is Awesome. Programming and editing is a snap, just read the manual, within two or three pages you're off an running. No upgrading has been done to my unit, with all the patches available on-line I don't have a need.

I'm currently using a Vox Cambridge 30 Reverb Twin which has no effects loop so I plug my guitar into the AX30G Input and choose the Mono/Left channel to go directly into the Vox Input jack. I have had much success as well using the stereo input jack on the Crate Vintage Club amps. It can create additional hiss with excessive distortion but the Noise Reduction system covers it nicely. All effects can be adjusted subtly or aggressively. I use some Phazer and Flanger setups that allow me to duplicate David Gilmour and Alex Lifeson's sound. Massive distorion allows me to duplicate many overdriven band sounds. Classic tube amp can be muddy but the 3 Band EQ cleans that up just right.

I have been playing for 12 years and I play Classic Rock, Ballads, Christian Rock, Worship and metal and the AX30G keeps all my patches in tact and at my feet. I play an '89 Fender Strat with a Clapton pre-amp custom installed. This gives the Lace Sensors additional warmth or overdriven crunch, I decide. I would replace this with the same model any day. I play a lot of clean and the Chorus with a little Delay is awesome for that. I compared this with a zoom pedal that made too much noise. The effects alone will inspire me to write new music.

and also when i tone a high gain distortion , the sound have never stuck together~~~~~~~~~~~you know what i mean? i was used to using
zoom 505II, i tone it high gain,if more than 4 string are sounding
those sound just stick together as a rubbish!
but this unit doesn't!
noise gate is so great that i just put a low level and it work very well

it makes noise with the input setting at high level, but anyway i recommand using it at half way.

well, the design at first seems to be hard as a rock, but the pedals are too rough, the "pressure" pedal is way too strong, and you have to step on it as hard as you can.
the power connection is always coming out, and when it's turned on again, sometimes it reaches peaks of electricity and it blows up. that's what happened to mine. dead now, asked me for 75? to fix it, told them to f*** off and bought a boss gt-5

How easy is it to get a good sound out of it? - Easy as pie (unless you're reading the manual) once you've figured out how to work it, although with the potential of putting so many FX in one patch it can be easy to overdo it and end up making everything sound plastic-y...
How about Editing patches? - give it a couple of weeks to learn how to work it properly, after that it's a piece of piss. Could do with more than 16 user patches though...
How is the manual for it (if there is one)? - best to just mess around with the unit to figure out how it works, but the bit that explains what all the effects do and what the various parameters for each effect do was very useful
Do you know the firmware revision number? - eh?
Has your unit been upgraded? - not that i know of... i do have the Expression pedal for it.
Sound Quality
:
8
What setup are you using this with? -various 'SuperStrat'(humbuckers/floyd rose) type guitars, CryBaby wah, Boss MetalZone, Carlsbro amp (with the band) Fender 15watt amp (at home)
Is it noisy? - No.
Are the effects weak or do they always sound great? - I mainly use this unit for Delay/Modulation FX, these are all fantastic except perhaps the 'Talkbox' type effect (i think it's one of the Random Step filter settings) and the AutoWah is shite...the normal Wah can make some decent sounds but it's no Jim Dunlop CryBaby... I only use the disortion for 'Bluesy' overdrive sounds, but i find hi-gain Thrash sounds can be a bit plasticky so I'm sticking with the MetalZone.
Can you get the sound of your favorite artists? Who are they? - it makes MY SOUND and that's all that matters. i did find an old patch i'd made that sounded very Metallica, i guess it depends what guitar/amp you're using
10 out of 10 for the FX I use, but 8 overall.
Reliability
:
10
Can you depend on it? - yes. It's pretty durable. I've had it for at least 5 years now and never had any problems with it. The other reviews on here all seem to mention the mains adaptor, I got mine secondhand and it came with a Super Nintendo plug so ther you go! the SNES plug broke so now i use those Multi-adaptor plugs you get in Poundstrecher for about #3.
Would you use it on a gig without a backup? - As far as I can remember I've used it without backup for every gig I've ever played...I'm now thinking of trying to get another one and duplicating all my patches on it! anyone got one going cheap?
Customer Support
:
No Opinion
Bought it secondhand from Spenders in Newcastle Upon Tyne so I've never dealt with the company.
But it's never broke, so i reckon that's a moot point...
Overall Rating
:

What style of music do you play? Is this a good match? - I play a lot of metal and some 'other stuff', but i reckon it'd be good for any type of music. Unless you're a vintage/retro freak, in which case you won't be interested in a digital MultiFX unit...
How long have you been playing? - 12 years
What other gear do you own? - various 'SuperStrat'(humbuckers/floyd rose) type guitars, CryBaby wah, Boss MetalZone, Carlsbro amp (with the band) Fender 15watt amp (at home)
If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else? - I'd try and get another one of these, I need that Hyper Resonator!
what do you love about it? What do you hate? What is your favorite feature? - I like trying to find uses for the daft sounds like the Random Step Filter, and just playing along to myself with a long delay. My favourite feature is probably the long delay settings, and the tuner is indispensable. The only thing I really don't like is the short pause when switching between patches.
Did you compare it to other products? Which ones? Why did you choose this one? - i think this may have been the first one i tried...i chose it because it was #90 and much beter than the Boss Multi-FX I used to have.
Anything you wish it had? -
1. no break in sound when switching between patches
2. more patches
3. proper expression pedal instead of pressure pedal
4. better-sounding distortions from the AX1500G
5. talkbox effect from the AX1500G
Does it help you make music, or does it get in the way? - It helps! Just last night I set up a subtle overdrive and a long delay, and spent a couple of hours pretending to be Dave Gilmour...
Anything else you'd like to share? - If the Korg AX1500G had the superior editing functions of the AX30G then Korg could be onto a winner...

korg outshined themselves with this model.experiencing previous model and post models is rather dull and lifeless compared to the flavor and accessivness of the ax30g. I found that while I was listening to its performance through the direct feed to the headphone jack it was alittle 'sonic' but you can use an amp simulator to eliminate that sound or feeling. Also recording directly through the headphone jack can produce that same problem and solution.
I use two guitars to record;a wasburn dimebag series w/factory pickups, and a Jackson professional w/factory pickups.
All of the effects are very reasonable in quality of sound when chained right, and it pays to run them whatever amp your using on a by-pass or a clean channel.
i found u can really get a randall amp sound out of the studio gain setting, and a lovely warm sound from the chorus with the equilizer settings.it can be abit noisy but obviously you can reduce that w/noise reduction. All in all the effects and sound quality are enormous if your using the right settings.

Any good musician knows the changes and/or multitude of effects they will be using throughout a gig so utilizing the pedals channels and there within(i.e. the individual swithings.)is a vital part of its dependancy, and yours. I have used the ax30g on a number of occasions throughout my many bands and the only problem I encountered was the fact it wont really mix with other pedals very well. I depended I my ax30 then and i WOULD AGAIN, IT JUST BEATS TAP DANCING ON 5 OTHER PEDALS while trying to remember the bloody songs.

My dealings w/the co. were pretty disasterous.I needed a new volume pedal for the ax30 and they told me it was obsolite after purchasing it 2.5 years prior. the reality of it seems to be,if its over 6mths old its out the door.

I love and play heavy metal although I play a variety of music and the ax30 is the shit as far as im concerned. Ive been playing for 13 years+ and all those boss and dod pedals etc just pissed me off with all their crappy sonic sounds and the tap dancing factor. I do wish the ax30 didnt have that pressure pedal and just used a real pedal instead. Those people who own a korg processor are generally happy customers unless they cant play well or dont understand the concept of a processor. I know this because I worked in a music shop selling instruments for 1yr and I sold about 5 of the ax1500g( even one to my best friend). In terms of creativity w/the ax30, I just smash away generally and leave the settings alone so its not in my way. I'll play for 30 minutes or so and then listen to everything, if im happy i'll change the settings and go for it again. Live is different though because I like to use the individual switching style more, I'll leave the channel open, which usually has four things available to me; 1 dist (studio) 2 chorus 3 reverb 4 delay (tap).

Yes and no...
I found it to be sturdy and reliable.
It did break down once at a gig...but that was due to an OAF spillng a whole pint of beer onto it! Even then it kept working, but I couldn't switch channels with the pedals. I opened the case at home, removed the exess moisture and sticky residue and left it on a radiator for a few hours and she was back to her best.
One criticism of Korg though, the packaged power supply was flimsy as hell. I used one from a nintendo games console when gigging!

I used it mainly in loop after the preamp put in the distotion. Foundit good for most uses and there were lots of great patches straight out of the box. I wouldn't replace it now as it is a bit old hat but was a good investment. I worked equally well as a vocalist's unit with a mic. Distortions were not great but more than useable, and editing patches was longwinded but worth the effort. But this was a product of its extreme versatility. Sound quality 11/10 if you don't include the overdrives. If one comes up on ebay and you already have a nice valve amp with an FX loop, snaffle it!

This unit is pretty good sounding actually. Much better tone than amp modelling units today. I much prefer it over Tech21 products as well, even when recorded line in using its amp simulator, though I do use an external cab simulator for direct.
For earlier reviews which bash this unit for bad distortion or bad delay, I would think they dun really know howda setup the unit for a good sound. I've owned this lil piece of gear since '96/97, and it has served me well, and it has been a no of years. Be it sparkling clean tone, tubey Santana type drive or heavy hi gain sounds, it delivers. I even use this with my fretless bass, and by using the exciter, even a fretted slap sound could be obtained.
My trick to getting a good distortion sound on this lil gem is by running Dist 2 channel thru 6L6 simulation, then fixing a phaser efx on low freq and adjust the manual and resonance controls to thicken up the tone. I do admit that the factory patches are terrible.
The only thing I wish it had was the ability to blend patches when switching, rather than the short delay present when switching. Oh yes, for those who find the pressure pedal a pain to use, u could do a lil surgery to it and remove the rubber block under it to lower the tension.

I wouldn't say it's designed for the road. But it's been with me for around 6-7 years and has never failed. I'm even contemplating buying a used one as a spare just in case the day comes when mine dies... However, the power adapter had died a couple of times. The wiring breaks too easily, I had to cut the wires and resolder em bout 3 times thru the 7yrs.

It's a gem. I use this fella for a couple of applications. Be it electric guitars (Ibanez RGs, Gibson Les Pauls, etc), bass (fretted & fretless) or even as a preamp for my piezo equipped cello. Gets me virtually whatever sound I need, be it by itself, or with aid from other equipment. I play a diverse mix of music, ranging from prog rock/metal, new age, fusion jazz, classical, etc.
Thru the years, I've tried a no of pieces of preamps. Whether guitar preamps, bass preamps, acoustic preamps or multi efx boards. I wouldn't call the Korg studio quality in terms of modulation, ambient efx or compressor. But it's a workhorse and imho has served me better than equipment like Tech21, Digitech rackmount studio preamps, Line6 & definately over those lil Boss/DOD type stompboxes.

Fairly easy to use - doesn't have a lot of knobs so the one has to do for lots things. Has two modes of editing - easy and detailed. Changing patches on stage is OK but there is a delay. The presure pedal is a pain but you can rig up any volume pedal as an expression pedal by using stereo jacks and the wiring in the manual. If you want to use expression do this - the presure pedal is a fun toy but not for real work.

I use it most with my Takamine and a Fender 25R on clean. Also with a strat and various odds and ends - I find humbuckers take the fx better than single coils. The noise reduction is good, the distortions are OK if you like mega crunch - a subtle break-up is something I can't find. The chourus, phasing and flanging etc is good, delays seem OK but max at 500ms(?) - good for its time but it is old technology!

I originally used a Carlsboro stingray with a cheapo Hohner Rockwood Les Paul. But I now mostly play acoustics (Takamine EAN12G) with a Laney acoustic combo. The laney is nice for a small and low priced acoustic amp, BUT, the mic channel is totally clean. No tone or reverb. The AX30 is (beleive it or not) an awesome vocal processor!! Using reverb, delay and 3band eq, I can get more out of this than I can out of cubase. Occasionally I use chorus, trem and compression also. I rated the ax30 quite well as a guitar fx, but as a vocal processor it beats the crap out of many dedicated ones I have used

Distortions. - Forget it.
This is getting dated now...with all the pods and everything out there, better look somewhere else.
Lots of werid effects, brillant creative stuff here.
Mod/Delay section. Now, - this is the only area i use, and like...Maybe it's personal, but i love the Korg delays...look at the SDD seriis...the mod delays are great. Again, let down is that the stereo MOD delays only got to 250ms. Also, in the Moddelay section, they only go in increments of 10. Normal delays go in increments of 5ms, which is a little better, but, as i said, mod delays are my thing...ive got a digitec rp20, but this korg kicks ass.

I found this item hard to use at first, You really do have to sit down with the manual and study it a couple of times over to get the jist of it.
After reading it you soon get the hang of it.
The preset programs are ok to start, then you can program your own weird & wonderful sounds in.

I'm using this just on some cheapo guitars and practice amps as I am just learning,I'm getting some excelent sounds out of it.
Theres some good rock/grung sounds plenty of distortion and it has the bonus of a dolby system which reduces the background noise if you like and you can set it to any level.
I find all the sounds great, cant wait to try it on a large amp with a decent guitar.

I'm playing all sorts of styles as I am just learning, I have been playing for about 8 months and it's coming slowley.
If it were nicked I'd find out who nicked it and make em buy me a new one, if it were lost I'd deffinatly buy this item again.
Some of the programs I'll probably never use but it's nice to have them just to try them and when you get bored you can have a mess about with it and get some real weird sounds out of it.
If you had to buy all the stomp boxes to get the sounds that this reproduces, it would cost a small fortune.
Cant really fault it, deffinatly worth a try.

It's true that the Korg AX30G may not be the most user friendly effects pedal around (it's getting on a bit, and knobs are the big thing these days!) but I'm pretty sure that no other FX pedal has the same depth of programming, plus the Individual Pedal mode that allows you to use it as a set of stomp boxes. The manual is good, but out of interest (or my ignorance) I could never work out what some of the patches were meant to be based on. Not that it really matters when tone is your thing, but all suggestions gratefully received!

The reason I'm resubmitting a review after many years of owning this AX30G is this: I bought an old 70s Fender Twin Reverb last year, and initially tried it out - using my trusty Strat - with my newer AX1000g. Not bad, but as often happens, I decided to dig out the old AX30G out of curiosity...what a find! Not only is the AX30G as silent as it gets in terms of background noise, but the tones were far smoother and richer than the AX1000G. I know the Fender MUST take a large portion of the credit, but I really had to sing the praises of the old pedal! The distortion still leaves something to be desired at times - too overcooked - but current owners should try Ambichorus in Individual mode and hit switch 1 for solos. I'm still not able to tame some of the wilder patches (eg JimiWah - any tips?)but I play covers, so versatility is the key, and I would disagree with those who say the Chorus is weak - not with a Twin it ain't!Anyway, the AX1000G has been sold on - newer isn't always better!

My first ever AX30G went back to Korg when the Pressure pedal went, but I gather that was a design fault. When I got the replacement I then bought a Korg Pedal (hideously over-priced) and it's been excellent as a wah, volume, swell, expression pedal. The AX30g has been danced on, soaked in beer frequently (it's safer on a stage!)and shipped around Europe. It may not look the biz but it's alive and well. Just take care over the "wall wart"! Never used a backup.

I've used Colorsound, FuzzFace and Dunlop pedals, but I've also had the Korg A5 (not good) before the AX30G. I sometimes hanker to buy "famous names" pedals, but cost and convenience are factors, and like the sounds I get now.

Being my first processor, this unit took a bit of getting used to. Read the manual (30 some pages) and it's a snap. I initially put this thing away after using it for 2 hours because I was unhappy with it. I pulled it out 2 weeks later and have used it ever since! Editing patches is easy if you know what all the values mean. If not, read the manual.

I play a 2001 Epiphone Les Paul Studio with a Crate GFX212T amp (i know i know, i was short on cash). Before I was given this, I used a Boss BD-2 Bluesdriver for my vintage sounds and the amp's distortion for metal. With the AX30G i can kinda do both. The BD-2 is far superior for vintage tube-like sounds, but you don't buy a digital box for that anyway. Noise is not really a problem.
Most of the effects sound good, but they will require tweaking. Search the internet and you can find some great patches (that's how I got started). The effects that i can't make sound good are the ones that I don't know how to use. I can get anything from tweed-style light overdrive, to AC/DC bright crunch, to muddy Boogie style distortion (if that's what yer in to, personally i'm more of a crunch guy). I bet with some tweaking you get close to almost any sound.

Seems to be sturdy. The "Pressure" pedal looks kinda cheap. If anything was to break, I would suspect that first. Fortunately, there's an input for an expression pedal (a real one). So it ain't that big a deal. I doubt I'd gig with this, but it's not because I don't trust it. You see, I'm planning on buying a REAL amp in the near future, and then a nice rack processor for effects. So this will have been replaced before I will be gigging at all (I'm just not to that stage yet as a guitarist).

For free as a Christmas present, why not? I play tons of stuff, from Classic Rock (The Doors, Hendrix, Zeppelin) to hard rock (AC/DC, Van Halen) to contemporary grungy stuff (Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots), and even some blues.
I've been playing for 9 months. If it was stolen or lost, I might be a little upset that I couldn't sell it. Buy it again? Nah. I'm really not into this processor stuff. This was a GIFT from my brother, and i didn't ask for it. I like the ability to access a wide variety of sounds with the press of a button, and the ability to create chains of effects and stuff like that. I dislike that it was given to me. I really wasn't ready for a processor, and it shoved my beloved bluesdriver out of the spotlight for a while. Oh well. In a year I'll have a kick-ass half stack anyway (tube, of course), and I won't need this. Isn't that what they all say.

Distortions - 3/10
Modulations - 8/10
I really find the distortions quite AWFULL actually, and therefore I must join those who say so too. I am not the only one. The normal distortions are too synth-like and a real vintage fuzz is not available. The overdrives are not natural responding. Definitely a distortion - digital junk but that was normal 5 years ago.
The modulations are OK. I think I'll use the pedal for these things only and let the distortions die alone... Maybe just that the depths must stay low, otherwise the chorus, phaser and flanger things are unnatural sounding through.
A lot of sounds are useless too.

At first it seemed to complicated while on stage, but in time, I developed some very nice patches for the type of music I play which ranges from soft & mellow to "in-your-face" thrash rock. I did buy an expression pedal because the "pressure" pedal which is built in seemed "cheap" !

I use either a '72 Strat or PRS McCarty with this device. The guitar first goes into a Thomas Cry Baby, then thru a Sonic Maximizer, then into the Korg AX30G and out into a Mesa DC-5 with cabinets stacked.
Sometimes I split cabs on stage for nice panning. I like the noise gate, without it maxed, this unit gets pretty noisy !The factory presets are good, but even better after modified and renamed. For example, "Black Sabbath" factory patch without pitch shift, gives a nice Jeff Beck "Wired & Blow by Blow" tone. The best factory patch is the AmbiChorus without a doubt !!!

This is running from my Ibanez S470 to the effects return of my Crate GX-130C. It sounds much better that way than through the input (always a good idea to not double up on preamps). The board has some really nice distortions, a good reverb, nice delays. The wah is tolerable, but the pitch shifting is definitely not to be used. :) The chorus leaves some to be desired, as it's kinda synthy and not too warm. Overall a decent sound for what was a $250 pedal new 5 years ago.

There is two way of programing these unit:
first- standard way programing is when you can set every parameter of each efect
second-easy way for quick programing with already preset sounds
Patches is quite comfortable for editing, and leavs you enough place for playing with your own ideas of sound. I have found manual for ax30g on the web, it has got quite enough pages and it is very useful for advanced users. Korg ax30g was upgraded with his younger tween brother caled ax300g. The difference betwen them is number of user patches, and nothing else, the sound is identical.

I have used it with several kind of amps and setups. It sounds best on combo, with good and strog speaker, cause ax30g has got very loud output (be careful with preamps!). At home I play it on (do not laugh on me:-) stereo PC active speakers, and it sounds good enough for practising and programing sounds. I think that strongest side of this multiefect is delays and other timebased efects (flanger, reverb, phaser..). That is why it sounds best when I have play the Police, Pink Floyd, or others like this kind of music.
Distortions are quite too hissy for my ears. When I play distorted solo I must set gain on minimum and add some EQ. For hard rock and blues there is a fiew patches, but for HM and progressive metal players this unit is a heaven!

I play with a band and we make hard rock, blues, raggae... pratically many differents musics. I'm satisfied, because ag30x is very ductile and allows me to play so many different styles. I'm also satisfied for what regards sound: enough strong when I make tapping on Deep Purle... enough sweet when I play Clapton.
I think that 2 things are not very well, or well developed: 1. the interruption of sound when I change effect,
2. PRESSURE pedal... I rarely use it, because it doesn't convey a meaningful improvement for what reagards sound. According to me this depends on the fact that less parameters are "pressurable" and even if changeable, the difference is not so great.
In the end I'm satisfied of my multieffect, above all for it ductility
and also for the ease of setting.

You migh twant keep keep the distortion on your amp down if your going to use the distortion through this thing, becasue it will squeal like a stuck pig if tis up. But if you put it through an FX loop, its pretty calm. I've got a great distortion patch reminicent of Metallica. I'm still trying to get a good Wah without it having no bottom end. This is one of the easiest units to use! I love the dial that can scroll through everything in it. The presets for the most part suck but there are a few that are worth keeping. The manual does suck for this but once you learn to mess with it afgter a couple of hours, the manual starts to make more sense and features you didn't knowe where possible start jumping out(like setting up an expression pedal or using the tap delay).

I am running <b>2</b> of the units through the switchable FX loop of a Crate Blue Voodoo BV120H into a 4X12 Crate cabinet. I plug my Strat(SC+SC+SC) and my Peavy Tracer(SC+SC+HB) into the amp itself. These units sound a lot better through an FX loop than staight in if you like the natural tones of the amp. The sounds that come out of the unit can be so good that if needed you can make you own amp sound like something else! I used to run one of them in front of a 100W Fender amp with some cruddy distortion and basic clean sounds and made it sound like Billy Corgan's JCM800 head! It was great!
If you blend these effects with your amplifiers natural sounds, the chorus, flanger, anbd phasers kick some ass. I wish the the phaser was a little bit more "tweakable" like the Boss PH-2 but I finally came up with a phaser patch that really sounds awesome!
If used through an effects loop, turn off the compressor, wah, distortion, EQ as soon as the patch is made. Figure out the delay/reverbs, other whacky stuff first. Then, set the level to 50. This will give you a basic effect. Then tweak away. After yuou have finally made the sounds you want, turn the EQ on and set the Trim Gain up around 2.0-4.0, depending on your amp. This compensates for the loss of signal strength that results from using the effects.
I don't recommend switching between patches on this. I have yet to find a floor-based model that doesn't have a 1/2 second delay between patches. I would recommend using the effects and bypassing them as needed. Then switch pathces during the bypassed mode. That way there is no loss of signal when switching.

For the amount of money I paid ($275 first time, $70 the second), I gget a LOT of FX. and especially having two, now I have some more flexibility in ordering the FX chain as opposed to having one.
The only other thing I wish it had was a built in expression pedal vs. the pressure pad for more control. But with the expression pedal jack, that can be certainly circumvented.
I recommend this unit for anybody!

I play an American Std Strat with a Seymour Duncan Lil 59 in the bridge, so essentially a humbucker, through a Marshall JTM 30 tube amp. I have been pretty disappointed with many of the effects. The all-out metal distortion is very good, but it's kind of all or nothing. The milder distortions aren't any good. The chorus is horrible, so I still hook up my Boss chorus pedal. The flanger isn't much better. The pitch shifter always sounds a little off, even when I try to fine tune it. The wah is completely useless - I can't stand the stupid pressure pedal. The delay/reverb is fine. I basically use this unit for distortion, delay effects, and as a chromatic tuner (works well). Many of the novelty effects they threw in seem to be designed by engineers, not musicians.

I'm into a Laney GC-120, with an awesome clean channel, a Washburn with floyd rose and 2 humbuckah's and 1 single coil. The clean sound are better than ever! And the distorted ones...hey my friends, they are amazin'!! I've got an thrash metal band, and recorded all guitars at my cd with Dist2, and it sounded really heavy. Moreover, that why Pantera's Dime uses Korg, the ultra-heavy-soundin' of its distortion rules!!

And I've never caught into trouble at a gig, nevah!!

I found the AX30G to be relatively easy to use - althought having been a long time Korg user gave me a head start on what to expect. The manual is absolutely useless so throw it in the bin as soon as you can...Editing patches hmmmm well as with all machines u r better off sitting down with the interface and just pushing buttons - messy to start with, but all is soon revealed and once u r familiar with the simple operations everything becomes a piece of piss.

I use both a 100th anniversary Les Paul Standard and an early 80's Tele running into the straightest undirtiest loudest motherfu*ker of an amp I have ever heard, it is a Roost Sessionmaster 300w head; into a Marshall Silver Jubilee slope front cab(4 by 75w Celest.). The distortion sounds are good but as always, need that extra tweeking. I found no playable user presets, god there is some shit in amongst those sounds! I upgraded from the A5 and personally, I feel that the A5's distortion sound absolutely shit on the ax30g, but still they pretty much measure up for a unit of this price range. I have pulled excellent tones from this unit in a variety of genres including Jazz(good Robert Crayish/Robbin Ford tones),Rock, Grunge,Metal( think Alice in Chains, Metallica, Sepultura, Pantera, even Pearl Jam)Bluesy stuff as well as Funk(rhcp Stevie w. etc). Ihave never had a situation where I couldn't find the right sound/tone. But with the pros there are cons. The gap between patches is fucking huge and must be compensated for in your playing - a real bastard to get 'un'used to...and yes as someone mentioned before, it does fu*k with your signal even in bypass mode.I think the best thing is the 'exciter' try adding full boost at around 8k - the results can rip your head off as well as giving the tone a bit of life and energy. My other beef is that you can't select chorus or phaser on its own without changing the chain block configuration. What is up with that idea??

I have found the AX30G unit itself totally reliable. Punters have jumped on it, drinks spilled on it, roadies have abused it and it has accompanied me around this huge country(Australia) to many nasty and dirty gigs playing all sorts from death metal to dance/pop and not once has there been a hiccup. The only hassle i have is with the fu*king pathetic little power cable that came with it, but they are always sh*t aren't they! So i just did like thousands of others and made my own up.

Great for most styles - fairly adaptable - I would like to try the 300 but haven't yet. I have been playing 20 years and i have never used any other multi effects units besides Korg. I have played in many bands with others who didn't use Korg, and they were consistently having many more hassles than me. I have an old Ibanez Tube Screamer (TS-10) and the Korg seems to be able to reproduce that sound with minimal dramas. The only thing that seems to beat it is the traditional Boss stomp boxes, it blew the Zoom away.Overall i feel it is very competitively priced. If it was stolen, I would not hesitate going for a Korg unit again.

The settings are very strong, its made to demonstarte the Power of the DSP, but no useable sounds, I've even found 5! useable sounds in the presets. But with a little help from the effectguru I've got some good sounds like Byrds, John Denver, a.s.o. This manual is a mess! If you haven't had to handle amother mfx-unit before, better reserve some time buddy, this will take you hours. Annoyed by the chinese-like language of this manual, I initially surrendered and did just copy some suitable preset-sounds to the user-databank, restricting creativity to just altering some levels and stuff. Meanwhile I've made my way through this ridiculous user-interface and I'm able to fully handle this unit.
Sound Quality
:

Most of the presets sound kinda artificial, some are obvously just to demonstrate what the tiny chpis inside are capable of. I considered approximately 5 sounds as useful ones and put them into the user-database. Another topic is to create new sounds, which, regarding the complexity of parameters adjustable, takes quite some time and surprisingly often doesn't deliver the desired results. BTW: The distortion sounds mark the weakest point of this unit, they mostly come close to the overdrive produced by older non-valve amps (I don't mind too much as my Marshall does this job for me quite well ;-} )

Only little later reality get you back and you might share my conclusion that this is a nice toy, but, relating the expensive price to what you can really use it for, I'd now prefer a more professional 19"-device (more expensive but worth it) or a few easy-to-use floor-pedals.

Getting a good sound out of this unit is easy no matter what styles you like. The distortions are good once you get them set right. Some of the presets like hyper zone are fuckin useless unless you're some hippy on weed. I want to buy an expression pedal but I don't have the funds at the moment. If it was stolen I would be realatively angry because that pressure pedal situation is bloody annoying. Also there are heaps of delay's and shit like ring modulation that I wouldn't touch with my foot.

I've done alot of soul searching about whether to use this in my set up.I'm pretty fickle, and I have some days that I'm more purist than others, maybe you can relate. To be honest though, this is a very good sounding unit. You can get it to sound quite organic(with a fair amount of thought and tweeking)and,as dumb as it might sound,it even apealed to me asthetically, which is important to me.I had no problem picturing it out in front of a Vox style combo, etc.It did'nt look like some self imploding timewarp space modulator in form or function. After I was done making clocks and psycho phantom theater party favor sounds I began to realize some more "real" sounds, but it took some digging. I agree with other peoples assessment of things like chorus(I burned out on chorus in the fabulous 80s via Police covers so I realy didn't care).Phase is fantastic, lots of posible variables from lighter Mick Taylor(Doo Doo Heartbreaker)delicacies to heavier Jimi in a whirlpool to the bottom of your soul plunges.Still wrestling with some of the distortions to utilize them, there are so many to chose and try to get the jist of.Someone else mentioned the fact that it colors your sound, even when in bypass and they were right on about that. That is probably my main quandry about this unit ,but actually ,I don't know if it's just me but this coloration,a sort of inherently compressed presence, really helps your guitar sound record well.A good presentation to tape if you will, seemingly easier than a straight signal(guitar to amp),so I try to work with it instead of against it.(I might try a little mixer,Boss, etc and put the Korg in its effect loop for a straighter signal,ie.I have no effects loop on my amp). The presets can discourage someone away pretty easily as they can harsh or over the top, but I also think they are a good place to start to learn some of the AX-30's capabilities.(also the great patches at various web sites,Thankyou for these)A good example would be;Blues Breaker-an attempt at the "Beano" album sounds I believe, a good way to start hearing and thinking in terms of different room settings for example,as opposed to the same cavernous hall all the time, also I learned a thing by hearing the mild vibrato that I probably wouldn't have used otherwise, and it helped me to start listening and digging more for the subtleties on records. One more thing(so much for keeping it short,Yikes!)The input/output levels can really push an amp overdrive style, but it's this factor,(along with the handy high damp control good for aproximating older dark rooms and verb etc.) that can make,or help not make your settings too wet and/or "digitally".If you have a problem finding natural sounding reverbs or distortions ,I would say experiment with these levels as well as your pre gain volume(mast.vol.amps)Less seems to be more is the premise when it comes to the reverb/louder push equation.Hope this helps someone. This page and other web sites have helped me(thanks)and I've had my AX-30G for almost two? years now.I'ts nice to learn the different mindsets and ways of doing things other people have.Working with units like this and all the potentials is a bit like organizing chaos sometimes.

I play alot of styles(Jack of all trades, master of non I suppose) I've made sounds ranging from Doors(Riders on da'Storm) and convincing "Pipeline"Surfaris to subtleties of Jimmy Pages guitar "bite" on things like"Heartbreaker" with this unit.(it's in there) other things like a Yardbirds fuzz (I'd like to leave at somebody's web page if they think it worthy)To Dark shadows theme sounds and something that sounds like "GOD almighty" clearing his throat. You can do more subtle things too like make a clean country sound and make a high end E.Q. spike w/compressor and assign them both to switch 1 to step on for more bite or twaang. About the one way this unit could get in the way of a song is it's tempting to spend time filling up your banks with "toys" instead of working on songs. Thats the premise I run on is "write down the toy sounds/store the song sounds" though it's hard because the real sounds come harder of course and can be seamingly less impressive. I would buy another AX-30G if lost or stolen.I've watched the price of these drop considerably since I bought mine.I've seen them new for $150(clearence for new AX-300s' I guess)and it was a deal at my price.I keep finding tapes of stuff I did that I forgot about and it usually makes me go"oh yeah, thats the Korg. What was that setting again?"I'd hate to have that happen and then realize I don't have it anymore.(The ultimate compliment for a piece of gear I guess)It's a drag losing ground you didn't know you made (Huh??)

I'm going out on a limb here. I don't like the AX30G all that much. I've had the unit for about 2 years, and am not all that impressed. Who knows why, maybe I'm doing something wrong with it, but I find that it is erally difficult to get a decent sound from the box. Any help would be appreciated. I also find that the configuration with the effects in the "chain blocks" is inconvienient. I could just doing all the wrong things with it, who knows.

In contrast to most of the reviews here, I think that the distortions are awful. I can't seem to get them to be useful. However, the modulation effects are great. I do like the chorus, flange, delays, etc. As for noise, that's not really a probelm, the noise reduction is great. In agreement with others, many of the factory presets are useless, "Hyper Zone" V12 Engine" I've used this unit with several amps amd gotten the same results. I find myself using it more for novelty type things now. One example: set up a preset that has pitch shift about an octave down, and set the feedback to 0 on the left channel, and all they way on the right. Then send the left output to your guitar amp, and the right output to a bass amp. That's just fun to play with. The other main gripe that I have is that even on bypass, it seems to effect my signal greatly- in volume and overall tonal characteristics. I've never been a strict guitar into amp with no effects type of player, but i can't stand to have my signal altered as much as this does. Anyone else have this problem? It does get a little better in my effects lop though.

This is a good pedal straight out of the box. Over a couple of years of heavy, pro use I have fine-tuned many of the factory sounds but my 16 user voices are still about 50% factory sounds, 25% modified factory sounds and 25% original sounds. The actual programming is a piece of cake once you have spent a couple of hours with the unit.

I use the pedal with an early 60s Gibson Les Paul and a more recent USA strat through a 1964 VOX AC30 with original add-on top boost. I don't find noise a problem compared to my old set-up of about 10 analog pedals joined together with bits of string. If you ignore the silly patches (why do they always have silly patches?) the sounds are mostly good and useful. I previously used a Dodd overdrive and a Tube Screamer for distortion and I find the AX30G can give me the same sort of voices. My previous experience of digital pedals is that the overdrive sounds are crappy. I've spent an arm and a leg in the past to end up with a unit which I only use for reverb and delay! I find the wah to be the weakest effect. (I've just got a Korg AX300G and I'm sure that they've improved the wah - or perhaps I just use it better with the improved pressure pedal)

I have just upgraded to a AX300G for the 32 user patches and the improved pressure pedal but I think the sounds are virtually the same. The new pedal, however, does not contain my favorite patches from the AX30G - e.g. JimiWah, SpitWah, Gallagher69 etc. I do wish that Korg included an up/down footswitch or some other way of accessing the factory patches without having to copy them into the user patch area. Another useful thing would the ability to assign volume to the pressure pedal.

A bit complicated to use at first, unless you use the more simple, IPE function, which lets you adjust only certian parameters, but once you realise that you can adjust just about anything, it becomes worth figuring out how to work it, and it actually isnt THAT difficult. If you like heavy distortion, you will love the presets, however if overdrive is more your thing, you will need to work with it a bit. The manual, like the machine, looks complicated, but is actually quite good.

I use a USA telecaster+ through a peavey bandit 112, and have only got a lot of noise through stupid settings that I'm not likely to use anyway. The noise reduction helps a lot. The chorus, as everyone seems to say, is not great, and if you turn the settins up, it sounds out of tune which is of no use whatsoever. Distortion can be great if worked with, the presets are mostly very heavy, and some of the other presets - v12 engine, darkside- are a bit useless. With only having 16 user settings, Korg should have made the presets as useful as possible, instead of just showing off what the thing can do. However, those are the negative things. Otherwise, this thing is great, I can get what ever I want from it, and am very fond of its overdrive and delay sounds, as well as wah and flange. Do get an expression pedal for it, as it is much better than the pressure pedal, and you will be able to do fixed position tones. I got this thing for #170 with an expression pedal, and had been considering a zoom 505 for #90 but the korg blew the zoom away. My only complaint is that there is a gap when you switch between patches, though the individual function (allows you to turn off different parts of the effect chain), makes up for this. I have attempted to set up an Ax30G webpage which anyone can easily add to, so please visit it at : http://www.webspawner.com/users/ax30g

My friend bought one, and within a day a button had broken off, but the shop replaced it(the whole thing) and his and mine have been ok so far. I am a bit wary of standing on the unit with my DMs on, as it seems a bit fragile, I'd rather use trainers for it, and with my hefty big size 12s, I have stood on 2 pedals instead of one by accident more than once, but this is a personal thing. I would not use a backup as I couldnt afford one and think it seems pretty reliable though. (BUT DONT JUMP ON IT!)

Painful editing feature compare to ZOOM floor mfx units. Without manual, you would have difficult time to learn how to edit your own patch. IPE Integrated Parameter Editor gives player easier to set/adjust the effect. However, to set a hyper/super killing effect, players still have hard time to read and understand the manual. AX30G editor is not as easy as the KORG PX-1 palmed-size mfx. Once you know how, you would love this mfx. It gives you more control and wider parameter sets compare to ZOOM mfx units.

the overdrives can get hissy but th AX has excellent hush-type noise reduction. the chorus is infamous for its lameness (read almost any AX30G review), but using the modulation delay as a chorus or setting flange resonance and feedback at zero will produce gorgeous, watery jimi-like chorus sounds. the pressure pedal works well once you get uesd to it,the 6L6 and EL84 simulators sound more natural on tape than most speaker simulators, and you can set delay and rotary/phase tempo with your foot. such a deal. and with minor tweaking, you can get a killer talk box sound as well.

I'd give it 10 but the chorus is a little weak and unrealistic. It sounds best when really cranked up loud through a tube amp, so I guess its not ideal for bedroom use. The distortions are just perfect for rock, I don't think you could ask for better. I found distortion/wah amazing. I had to fiddle with the settings a bit but its a totally harsh and amazing sound. Very proffesional. Its probably worth investing in an external footswitch for sake of using the pressure pedal - I'm not too confortable stamping on my rack every time i want some free flowing pitch shifter or wah. The pitch shifter is class, unlike the Zoom's offerings, its smooth and entirely usable.

Until I purchased this, I was only using Boss pedals, so I had a bit of a rough time at first, learning how to use this thing. It does become intuitive after a while, and after many readings of the manual.

Maybe it's me, but I think I'm the only one on this list that wasn't too thrilled with the distortion sounds. To me, they seemed too mechanical and unnatural. I love the clean sounds: chorus, reverb, flange, phase, etc. Also, the noise reduction comes in quite handy. My set-up is as follows: guitar, Vox Wah, Boss Distortion (the original orange one), AX30G, amp. Many of the presets in this unit will rarely be used (V12 Engine???). But there are enough good solid ones to make up for this (Fat & Brown). Overall sound quality is very, very nice. Remember, we're talking about a unit that goes for around $300. If you want better, be prepared to shill out the bucks!

Don't know. BTW, I am considering starting a web page that will be focus exclusively on the Korg AX30G. It would be a place to find all the "recipies" for cool and interesting sounds. I haven't been happy with other pedals in the $300 price range. I think it sounds better, and is easier to use than the Zoom products.
This pedal is made for putschky-ing (yiddish for "tinkering"). I wasn't happy with many of the preset sounds, but you have a lot of control over an awful lot of parameters. With enough time, you can create a wide variety of sounds that you would think could only be found on devices costing much, much more.
This is a great pedal for the price!

The factory patches are very good and it's very easy to create your own voice. The only problem is that there are only 16 user-patches. (there are 50 factory-presets already) There's no need for the manual When I bought the device the music-shop had lost the manual, I got it by mail after a month or so but by then I already knew how it worked.

The price was originally 250 pounds, but I got 30 quid off for a demo model. Yeah, I'd buy it again. I don't like the flimsiness of the thing, and it makes me wary of using it in a gig, but the sounds are really good and creating them is very easy. The best thing about it is probably the way you can set up effects very quickly and simply, but you also have a lot of power over your sound, which I like. I definitely recommend the unit.

The unit is a foot pedal mulieffects unit with 50 factory presets and 16 user presets.
50 preset patches allows the unit's full capabilities to be utilised. Many of the presets are outrageous sounds and although cool are not very practical. User patches are easy to operate, 16 in all, arranged into four banks of four effects. Scrolling through the factory presets is easy with the datawheel. Editing programs is straightforward although parameter details are not shown on the unit other than when selected ( Unlike the Boss ME-8 or the Digitech RP-6 etc. The manual is clear and coherent.

Sound quality is excellent. The harmonizer effect is especially powerful and a wide range of distortion sounds is available. The tap delay seemed to lack some volume on the echo although this may have been down to my setup. and the wah was not as distinctive as a 'CRYBABY' but this would not be expected on a mulieffects unit.

The unit is very reliable and it's compactness is a big asset. It is much smaller and lighter than similar units with similar capabilities. Korg seem to place emphasis on size, e.g the pandora box of tricks is amazingly small.
The main LCD display can be viewed at all angles, unlike some such as RP-1 but if all six possible effects are chained together in a programme, only four are visible on the display. The other two have to be scrolled across to using the data wheel. As a stage unit, it would be excellant although the pedals are plastic and will probably not withstand great force.

The compactness and verstility of the this floor effects processor is it's attractiveness. The sound quality is good and chaining and editing effects is simple. The unit offers a unique IPE editing feature ( idiot proof editing ) allowing beginners to experiment with sounds without the detail of specific parameter settings. some of the presets provided instant inspiration for new ideas but I found myself simplifying effects chains on some of the more 'way out' sounds !!

Bit tricky to start off with, especially if you are new to the world of processors. Effects are made up of chains, you have to sort of work around these chains to get the overall result you want (it can be done), Once mastered it does allow you to have a LARGE amount of control over parameters.
To be honest I found the manual, at times, to be frustrating. Hard to get to grips with, but makes sense and is easy to use when you know what you are doing.

Great!
I was primarily looking for the reverb in a unit. The Korg allows you a lot of choice, you can (if you want) have anything up to completely saturated reverb. Generally all the effects are of good quality. I would however be pushed to find a use for the HYPER RESONATOR.
The AX30G has input, and output controls. I compared this unit to the Zoom 3030, and felt that the Korg let you have much finer controls over the effects. The Zoom did not allow for a fully saturated reverb sound.

The AX30G has come down a lot in price. #220 was the result of some negotiating, and payment in cash! Good quality effects. Versatile, will allow volume and expression pedals to be fitted. The unit feels more like a serious musicians device rather than a toy (like some others). Would be great with a few more user memories (only 16). LCD is good, you can also name patches.
Everything in this price range is a compromise. I overlooked the RAM limits for good quality sound, and serious versatility. The Korg can compare favourably with individual effects pedals (soundwise)

This unit is very easy to use with two modes of programming, one similar to the AX30's sibling the G3 where you can make small but efficient tweaks, and a second, more detailed mode. The manual is sufficient and explains some features that are not immediately obvious. Presets are good but ultimately for me there is not enough user ram to store patches. You only get 16 spaces.

The unit is very clean and fooled several people I know who saw me using it live. They thought it was a controller pedalboard for a rack unit which says a great deal for the quality of sound. I wish they would have reinforced the case more. It is a little plasticy and creaked a few times in perfomances. Also, the power supply needed external strain relief, nothing that some wood and velcro can't fix. The distortions are very impressive and range from a liquid like sound to soft tube-like amp distortion. The basic chorus, reverb, and so on are all reasonable for the price. I've even used it direct into a mixing board when I needed a distorted vocal track. It stayed noise-free. Lastly the resonant effects are fun but of limited use to most players I used them for some avant-garde music but wondered if they couldn't have implemented better flanging and chorus functions without it. The pitch effects are nice too.

As much as I enjoy it I feel more confident using something more sturdy. For home use it is fantastic. Compared to its competitors I can't think of a unit that sounds better or is more flexible in programming. Also, when used with continious controller pedals you can get very expressive with your sounds. If you can't afford to put a setup together for less than around $750 then this is a very good way to go. The only caviat is how important storing your patches is. And it would have been nice to have midi ports if only to store patches. Highly recommended.

This unit is very easy to use. editing parameters on each effect are a a snap. When I first plugged it in I was at first overwhelmed with the amount of parameters that I could adjust. This thing makes gives my Strat an attitude!!! I love the distortion, there are 5 different types(Classic,High Gain ,Crush,Hash and Studio) I esecially like the hash distortion. When the gain is turned up to 50 with lots of bass I sound like Billy Corgan.
Flange, Phaser and Chorus sound pretty good too.
But what sets this unit apart from the others that I have seen is that it also has some unheard of effect which I think are really cool Things like a Hyper resonator, Sweep Modulation, Stereo Modulation, and other things that i just cannot remember right now. Your just going to have to check it out yourself. The presets PLANET X, HYPER ZONE best illustrate these "new age" effects.

I'm kind of worried about the pressure pedal. The whole unit is plastic and in order to press the pedal the whole range requires a good deal of force. I haven't had any problems with it but I wouldn't reccomend on using the pressure pedal too much. I'm going to buy an expression pedal as soon as i can in order to bypass the pressure pedal.

Easy to get at the preset sounds - if you program them into the user 'pedal' banks (you can't access the presets from the pedals). Otherwise you have to twiddle the big knob (ooer) which takes too much time in a gig. Editing is nice and easy. So much so that you know really need the manual much at all. If you do, it's better that a lot of others I've seen.

I use it with an electric guitar, so I can't really say how realistic a sound is. It's been used in a studio once, with a guitar (which was d/i'ed into the desk)- and the engineer said the sound was very "amp like". It's not too noise apart from the flangers and phasers whien you tune the resonance up, but that's to be expected. There is a noise reduction control that you can use to part eliminate this. Distortions/wah are cool (through the violin). The only half bad sounds I would say are the reverbs which are a bit unrealistic.

The AX30G is a well-designed processor for straight "out-of-the-box" playing. I didn't have to do much in the way of looking at the manual (which I hate, I love just diving in with both hands). I bought it primarily over anything else because it had solid distortion. Being only exposed heavily to Digitechs before this, I was surprised. I loved the distortion.
Editing the patches on this unit is very intuitive. Sure, it took 30 minutes to get all the menus and such down, but after that I was flying around in those menus. No problem with the editing style. In fact, it's one of the easier learning curves I've had to deal with when it comes to processors.
The manual is decent. There were some things I had to look up (like effects I'd never used before, and the "Individual Mode" which simply eludes you if you don't read the manual), but besides that I read through it once and never touched it again.
Sound Quality

Sound quality is excellent. I have done everything from high-gain stage work to a direct-in "space music" type sound right to tape. It sounded great.
I don't like the chorus. My other processor (yes, my *other* processor) is a Digitech RP-1, and my amp is a Fender Ultra Chorus, so I'm very picky. The distortion sounds more like a dedicated detuner/oscillator (which is really what they are) than a stereo-space simulator and a sound widener (which is what it should *sound* like). Like I said though, I've had no problems because I'll just run it mono through the Ultra Chorus in a pinch. But the chorus is really my only complaint on sound.
The delays are really nice. I'm a delay freak and I absolutely love them. The "ducking" option is really nice (ducking controls leakage of delay while you're still playing and lowers the volume of the delay until you stop playing). The ability to change delay tempo with the Pressure pedal is also an excellent idea. I also love the random step filter. I won't really be able to apply it unless I become the next Trent Reznor, but it's nice to have that headroom. :-)

The power transformer is flimsy and I worry using it at *home*. Seriously, before playing out a lot with it I'll probably find a way to reinforce it. Besides the power cable, the only backup I'd want on stage is the distortion/chorus stompbox that came with my amp. But I can reliably use it without worry, and I have.

I was very excited to get this processor. I love it. It very rarely lets me down in any way, and it's got a lot of features that I'd just written off *ever* being in a processor after seeing other ones. I wish it had a better chorus, then I could sell my RP-1 ;-). It actually has helped me ochestrate pieces of music better than just sitting around with an acoustic. All in all, a great little processor. I'm currently recommending the AX30B to my bass player.

I RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS UNIT AND HAVE BEEN HAVING SOME FUN. After the initial learning phase it seems quite easy to modify a program.T actual level of parameter variation is great . I find it some how easier to use the headphones if I'm trying out slight modifications - I'm not overwhelmed by sound ! The manual is reasonable to good but you need to get your hands on the unit. I'm still unsure of which effects to combine in the user section. Having so many options and being allowed only 4 in a bank is a bit restricting. Those I like I might put into a few banks to have a good set. One thing, I find the Pressure pedal very stiff to operate and not that responsive. Any comments out there on this ? I will be getting an external peadl soon. Also I'm still to find a warm (only slightly) dirty sustain - Santana or even a Clapton sound. Anyone had success with this ? I'd appreciate any comments. A great little unit which if combined with a powered base might do the trick in a live situation. Well done KORG !!
