I've got it since Korg released them back in 95, Lord is this so far...
Main hassle is that you have to slide the main switch in-between to access the edit mode, and it's prone to slide all the way to off...
No backlight is annoying, but naming the patches is absolutely great.

What is better than on most following Korg multifx is that you can use the eq without using amp/drive block, this is great if you use the unit in a loop, or with a sans-amp. Then you have the best of both worlds.
Not much access to the effects, but Korg has made it right so no regrets at all. Simplicity is what you have, and it's great to be fast.
The cab simulator is independant from the drive/amp block, very well made Korg.
All in all a very useful unit, even 13 years later.

Sound Quality : 8
Main application is in the fx loop of a Fender deluxe 112(90 w ss amp), for noise reduction, delay or reverb, and master volume. With cab sim on I can also send the signal to the pa with good results. The send signal of the deluxe is way strong, and the px1 can cope (zoom 503/504, dod fx7, ibanez pt3 all can't).
Naming the patches helps in the long run, trust me.

In holidays with my Baja telecaster and AKG K240studio cans the pandora shines, enjoyable crunch and lead-heavy sounds. The noise reduction makes it possible to play the Baja no joke.
Stereo delays are very enjoyable, never stop playing.
Only bad points are the quantizing noise in the drive block, and the too strong compressor effect which flats everything even at the lowest setting.

Reliability : 8
Mine has seen bad times, and still works. When plugging/deplugging either in or output it reinitializes, but other than this no problem.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Works on two mignon batteries, easy to find, but expect a flatter/darker sound than with the psu.
The metronome is still better than rythmbox on my rp150 digitech, you only need it to work after all.
If only Korg could make it without quantizing noises, and with backlight (and with a remote jack while they are there)...
A useful unit, and I will buy another one(or its successor the px2) if given the opportunity.

I bought this little unit off ebay and absolutely love it. Set-up is simple, just an imput for guitar and headphones and a line-in for jammin' with cd's or what-have-you. Didn't come with a manual but found it on the net no problem. I use it for quiet practice, it's especially cool practicing on the train back and forth from work. My own oasis away from the stress of work life. I get a lot of people asking me about it and they are blown away with the sounds.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using this with my Epi Les Paul, sounds great. I've dialed in some killer tones all the way from shimmering clean's, through growling blackface's to soaring searing jcm's. I play a lot of blues based 70's rock and metal...hendrix, iommi, page, perry/whitford, gilmour, etc. The delay options on this unit are particularily good.

Reliability : 9
For what I use it for it's great and that's practice. I would never use a unit like this for either gigging or recording because it's digital. Keeping that in mind, it's superb.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them, unit has never given me any problems to need to. Company has a great reputation though. I will add here that I'm looking at upgrading to the newest product in their line, the px-5 pandora just because I love this one so much.

Overall Rating : 10
I've had a great experience with this product from just bidding on it on a whim on ebay. If it were stolen I'd replace it immediately but probably with a newer model in the Pandora line.

I'll keep it short. This unit is fairly easy to use, and if you don't use the distortions then noise ain't an issue.
What is great is the ability to use just the eq, and just the cab sim as well. The noise gate is convenient too, to keep your signal clean.
Time lag between patches is short, and speaking of those you can name them (Behringer, zoom, take notice...).
Tuner tracks ok, headphones output is ok but not loud enough with big phones such as AKG k240df and such.
Output level to drive a return of amps loop is okay too.
I like this unit.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Noisy distortions but very ok character of the different settings. Valve settings sounds good, crunch too, metal scooped named crush is also enjoyable, only quantization noise spoils it off.
Compressor too sensitive and flat-dull sounding, still nice to have.
I only use delays and reverbs and you can mix them to the dry sound, so yes you can actually use them even at loud spl.
I use the unit as interface between my tube factor pedal and the return of my amp's loop. It works wonderfully, no noise issues there.

Alone, because of the noise of distortion effects an honest 5, as I use it a solid 8.

Reliability : 9
I have it since 96, no problems to date except it reboots itself sometimes when plugging the jack.
It has taken some abuse, so a solid nine.

Overall Rating : 10
I play since a long time, semipro. Own a zillion gizmos and guitar stuff.
I like the pandora, useful as an interface between pedal and poweramp.
I would search for one used if ever mine were lost.
Much of the newest gear is too complicated to use, and sounds , well, quite bland.
Take a tube factor, this pandora, and a vox class a amp and I don't see the point of line6-digitech-god knows what else.
Make it simple! Ten for fantastic value indeed.

This thing is a pice of cake to operate.

Sound Quality : 2
The sound on this unit (now very outdated) is average. The effects are half assed and it has a huge "HUGE" time lag or latency if you will.

If you need something to plug in on the move, in the car, on the bus and or while riding your bike, its great for that. Just make sure you take a backpack full of batteries because this thing likes to eat.

Reliability : 2
Well it has had its problems over the last ten years. The worst problem is the input going to the shit. Huge crackling noize!

These days I play many styles. But my main style is metal; you can, get some cool metal sounds out of it:)

Played for over ten years.

If it were lost or stolen I would save a shit load on batteries. I could never find a AC/DC adapter to fit it other than the original Korg one which I never owned.

The thing I like most about it is portability.

The thing I hate is that latency, you hit a string and about two hours later the sound returns to your time frame.

Although this product is very old now, I would get something a bit more up to date. But hey, if you see one on ebay for 20 bucks (AU that is) I would grab it just for practice. Never ever try to use this for gigs:)

This Pandora is now a couple of generations old. As noted in some other reviews, it tends toward rather "digital" sounding effects. On the other hand, it's available on the used market for about 25% of the cost of a new version.

Although I'm not generally a fan of button-only effects, this unit is remarkably easy to edit. My unit came with an instruction manual (and a pretty darned good one by import standards!!), but I've managed to complete most programming tasks without it. In fact, the only thing you'll really need the manual for is to identify the buttons.

Admittedly, I was spoiled by my Digitec RP/RB series multi's as they offered places to save custom patches without discarding the factory patches. That is not the case here. With the Pandora, once you've manipulated a patch, it must be stored at one of the preset locations, thus overwriting a preset.

Before reviewing sound quality, I must note that I bought this unit to use as an outboard pre-amp/effects box for my bass. As such, I am using a limited number of effects, sounds and features.

Sound Quality : 6
After a number of years of lugging around tons of bass gear, I decided to go for the smallest rehearsal/gig package I could put together. In this case, I'm using an OLP MM3 (5-string) Music Man knock-off with the Pandora velcro-ed to my strap. I run the 1/4" unbalanced line out to our rehearsal studio PA head and play direct only. To date, this has worked very nicely. It's REALLY nice to only carry one gig bag to practice!

The only real downside I've found with this unit is the "digital" noise produced on most of the patches. I've found that most of the noise can be minimized by tweaking the gain and noise reduction levels in individual patches. As noted above, I'm currently only using three customized patches with the bass, so the noise level is not a huge concern (also only using it as a direct box at rehearsals at this point). HOWEVER, due to the noise, this is definitely NOT a good recording effects box! Several factory patches have an overwhelming amount of noise. It makes those patches unusable in my case (don't know if they would be reduced with a regular guitar).

The three paches that I'm using are:
1) #1 Modern- After tweaking the EQ, level and cabinet parameters, I've managed to get a pretty nice clean P-Bass sound with a touch of chorus (based on the delay). Very nice, full tone. Very little noise. Gives the MM3 an "active" sound.

2) The first "Misty" (I think this is the #3 or 4 factory patch)- Very little tweaking on this one. Getting a smooth jazz (not Fender Jazz Bass, just jazz jenre) sound. Almost like a fretless with some overriding effect and lots of compression.

3) Zombie- Easily the coolest distortion in the box for the metalheads. I really like the low, dense grind on my upper bass strings (think Boss Metal Zone) with a ton of sustain. Again, some tweaking to a couple of parameters, but pretty close to the factory setting.

I haven't found any other factory settings that work well with the bass yet. I really like the top-end squeal of the "Shenk" (I assume Michael Shenker) patch, but the squeal is drowning out the fundamental on the bass. If I ever figure out how to balance this out, it's going to sound great.

Although some of the effects are not up to snuff by today's standards, the amp emulators are pretty darned good! Cabinet emulation is OK, too, but I tend to use the CAB 2 on almost everything.

The lower rating for sound quality is based on the amount of noise generated by many of the patches.

Reliability : No Opinion
Although I have limited experience with the box, it appears to be well designed and built. Buttons, jacks and switches are well located on a very small effects box. As well, it is a few years old and shows little wear from normal use.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with these fellas.

Overall Rating : 8
A couple of items not noted above:

1) Great tuner. Even tunes up my 5-string bass accurately! Even if I decide to stop using it as an effects box, it could still play this role until it dies! (worst case scenario: I paid $52 for a tuner....)

2) The on/off switch is a NICE slider switch on the side of the unit (also used to go to EDIT mode). the switch engages firmly and should not turn off the unit or go into edit mode by accident. As well, the bypass button is very easy to manipulate and is protected by the 1/4" cable terminals. Again, won't be activated by accident. Also allows bypass (unaffected tone with tuner activated) and mute (mute with tuner activated).

3) Nice digital display. Took me about three minutes to get up to speed on the various parts of the display. Unfortunately, mine isn't backlit, so I need ambient light to edit. I do wish that Korg had screened small print labels on all of the buttons. They are not necessarily self-explanatory without reviewing the manual.

4) DA BOMB! The Pandora uses (2)AA batteries! I much prefer this to the standard 9v setup as I often have problems with the 9v terminals and terminal wires on used equipment. Kudos to Korg for this one!!!!! I can ALWAYS find a couple of AA's laying around the house or studio. Since my stomp pedals are the only things I own that use 9v, I've found that I don't keep enough of those on hand.

All in all, a nice little unit for the price. No doubt the newer versions have better sound and good interfaces (and, of course, there's a dedicated bass model now). However, at a quarter of the cost of a new one, this Pandora can do a real nice job of filling out or modifying sounds at a sweet price. Coupled with the fact that it's the size of a pack of cigarettes and can be attached to my strap with Velcro (not to mention doubling as a tuner and mute button), this unit does a good job of reducing my gear load to almost zero.

Reading the manual(just a bit of paper really) once should be enough "itz eazy".

great little tuner and metronome in built
needs signal boosting on its own (go through a pre-amp first)
bummer that it cant be switched for live so ive never used it live but for STUDIO its great(most noise can be balanced out pretty well)

good, a bit "digital harshness" but overall reasonably smooth.
DI is no prob, noise is reasonable, (nothing like unshieded single coils)
my PANDI now sits beside my bed so when im watching TV or i have late night "episodes" i can easily get some chops down
signal chain is
HOHNER G2T headless
(nice and light to lay on the bedplaying)
/PANDI PX1 (great JAZZY as well as VALVE style sounds/
ZOOM PS04 DIGI RECORDER (even though the ZOOM has heaps of efx, to get my primary sounds id rather use the PX1)/

i got mine for free, and it didn't come with amanual, so at first it was difficult to edit the patches (can't complain about that though) blind-freddy needs to hear, not to see.

Sound Quality : 10
i've used this unit with my fender strat, fender tele, ric 330, ric 350, ovation breadwinner, 12 string acoustic, and nylon string, and they all sound great. i've got the pandora plugged in to a little peavey blazer amp, and it sounds fantastic.

my stage set-up includes a fender power chorus amp, with a digitech pro 21 processor, so you have to believe me when i say the pandora is a fantastic sounding effect.

others have said that the pandora's distortions are no good, they obviously don't know how to edit the pandora, i own a marshal stack, and the distortions i've created on the pandora are far better than my marshal stack. (far, far, better) i've also edited a few patches which makes my guitar sound just like a trumpet, and another makes it sound like a violyn, and thats without a user manual, watch-out jimmi, if i ever get my hands on one of those user manuals.

Reliability : 10
(touch wood) i've owned this unit for about eight years, and i have played it almost every single day for each of those eight years, it has never let me down.

i use a digitech pro 21 processor on stage, but i would consider, using the pandora on stage, if only it had a patch footswitch.

forgot to mention, to those considering buying one of these, don't consider it, just buy it, you will not be disappointed, this unit also has a digital metronome, and tuner, etc, etc, if i lost it, i'd be on ebay straight away, biding high, to get another, i couldn't live without it, it's become to much of my sound.

Super easy to use and figure out with no manual. The preset patches are kinda lame, a few are good, but you definitley need to dial it in. Very easy and quick to do. The only thing that sucks is that it doesn't have a foot switch capability. Every thing is push button, so you need to program your effects in groups the way you use them, but it's still cool.

Sound Quality : 10
The sounds are friggin awesome. I had one of these long ago and ran it through my KMD stack front input. It sounded so sweet it's all I used. Recently I bought another off ebay and can only play using the headphone feature because I have no amp yet, but it still sounds amazing. The sounds are different from a amp vice HP's. It's a cool sounding box and has every effect you could ever need and they are good quality effects. I am totally anal when it comes to tones and trying to find that perfect sound and this little thing to me sounds better than the high end floor units and rack mounts I've been sampling lately. ( GT6/8 - Line6 - ME50, etc... ) Also, there is absolutely no feedback or loud hum's when your idle and with your amp at 5-6-9 in volume levels! NOTHING !!!

I play metal, to glam, to punk and this thing covers it all. My rig is a Jackson DKMG Archtop with EMG HZ's. No amp yet but I'm still looking. I love the total crushing distortions you can get out of this thing and the variations you can choose from, man there are so many. I've been playing off and on for about 15 years and this is by far the best sounding effects box I've ever had and I've owned many. I am trying to buy another off ebay in case this one ever gets lost, thats how much I love it. Every time I let some one try it out, they are sold on it immediately. The only thing I wish it did do was allow the user to control the volume. It is a set volume, only the effects volume can be adjusted. Its at a good level, but I want it to make me deaf. Buy it, they are cheap enough to where you won't be out anything and you will be totally glad you did, trust me..

The supplied patches are OK for demoing it's capabilities but you need to enter your own patches to get a set of sounds you like and which suit your gear.

Editing patches is very easy, once you have read the manual. I didn't have a manual supplied when I bought one off eBay but Jacqui (below) kindly supplied me with one. I have now put this online (with her blessing) if you need it:- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/clegg/px1

Sound Quality : 8
I am very pleased with the sounds I get for home use, even though I have the bits not strictly in the right order:-

Carvin DC127 -> various Boss Effects -> Pandora PX1 -> Mixing Desk -> Powered Speakers.

There is a noise reduction setting where compression is (indirectly) used in an effect, but I recommend you find a happy compromise with it versus the sound quality, rather than just setting it at max.

I have not tried it through my guitar amp in a hall or club yet - not sure if it is suitable for gigging, because of the difficulty in switching presets - although it could be taped to your guitar strap, I suppose.

Pity there is only one modulation effect and one delay effect at a time.

Reliability : 8
Great for home use and travel. Would not really recommend for gigging, except maybe as an emergency backup if your pedal board failed.

I use it with a Fender Strat and a Tele and a ES-335.
The noise people are talking about can be attenuated by using the noise reduction feature. The factory settings are not all that great, but once you tweak it to your likings... WOW!

Like everything, the Korg PX-1 has good things and bad things. I bought the unit for a bit of fun because it was cheap just so I could muck around with lots of different effects.

I bought it second hand and this is the first multi-effects unit I have bought or directly listened to so I can't compare it to others of its type.

I first went for the manual but the manual is terrible and doesn't explain anything. I read it a few times fiddling around with the px1 at the same time but it didn't make sense. So I just had to work it out for myself and I have got the hang of it now. It is fairly easy to edit patches once you work it out. But the bad thing is that there are only 20 presest patches available. This is not enough - 40 would be a lot better.

The unit is about 4 years old and the guy I bought it off, bought it in America new. Since then there have been the px2, px3 and px4.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using my px1 through my cheap fender strat copy and a Drive CD200 33 watt amp and it sounds really good. The noise reduction on the unit is really really good, it cuts out all unwanted noise so that it is silent when not playing. It sounds better with the unit with noise reduction that just playing straight into my amp which is great for me. Most of the distortion settings are really noisy but the nr cuts this out.

Some of the effects seem pretty flat and there aren't enough varied effects. A lot of them sound pretty similar. The effects sound good though, it sure beats having nothing or spending a huge amount of money on seperate stompboxes to do the job.

The px1 is really small in size, about 15x10cm, and because of this it is limits some effects. For example, you can't have flange, chorus or phaser with hall or room reverb effects.

Reliability : 10
When I bought my px1 it came with an adaptor power supply so that is really good to use instead of letting it eat away at my batteries all the time. I have used it with batteries and they lasted for about 5 hours. I probably won't use batteries when I perform with it because they could easily run out half way through without notice.

I would use it in a gig though, without a backup because it seems pretty reliable. No problems yet. Except because it is made of plastic if it fell off my amp or something like that it could easily break so I will have to be really careful with that. It isn't designed to go on the floor like stompboxes do.

I read on other reviews that people suggested putting it on your strap or in your pocket so you can switch effects during a song but I really don't think this would work as there are too many wires coming out etc. I am going to velcro it to my amp and have it within reach to switch only in between songs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't had anything directly to do with Korg yet and probably won't as I don't have a warranty or anything with it. They're website (www.korg.com) doesn't have any information about the px1 on their site because it is the first model.

If it broke I would try and get it repaired but if was going to cost more than $20-40 Australian bucks I probably woudn't bother because it isn't worth that much as I bought it for $100 Aus.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all sorts of music. I love playing stuff like Green Day, Chili Peppers, Blink 182 etc. etc. etc. All the good rock music of today. As well as bands like Dire Straits and The Eagles from the 80's.

I think the px1 suits me because I just wanted to get a whole lot of different new sounds and play around with them, but a lot of them don't really suit the music I am playing.

I have been playing constantly for about 3.5years and I am 15years old. I own two stompboxes, a dod delay and phaser which I bought second hand last Christmas. They are a few models old and work pretty well, but they make my guitar (especially the acoustic) sound really hollow so I looked for something different and found the px1.

I play in a youth band at my Church and we play every two weeks at the youth church. We play all types of music and it is good to have the px1 for that because it produces so many sounds.

If it was stolen or lost I wouldn't buy it again because I really want a unit that has a foot pedal to change effects during a song.

Before I bought the px1 I was serious about buying the Zoom606 for guitar because it had 40 effects, expression pedal and lots more but bought the px1 because it was so cheap. It was worth getting but I wouldn't buy it again; i would definitly upgrade to something better.

I really wish it had a foot pedal. My dad tried to take it apart to see if he could attach one, but it wouldn't come apart fully so that can't happen.

It would also be a lot better if it had more patches, as 20 isn't enough to get all the sounds you want witohut having to constantly edit them to get them back.

The px1 is also really useful because it has a built in metronome, electronic tuner which is really really handy, pre amp so you can plug your headphones in with your guitar anytime and listen to it without an amp and also a cd input jack so i can plug my diskman into it and listen to it and my playing through the amp.

The px1 is a good little unit and well worth buying it. It is so small yet can do so much.

If anybody out there needs a manual send me an email at jacqui@midnightoil.com.au becase I'd be happy to send it to you.

The unit is easy to use, but only by virtue of it's limited editing facilities.
There is no pedal input so don't plan on changing effects mid piece.

Played it originally through a guitar amp and I like a murky, jazzy eq. I was shocked to discover that when the high frequency was not cut there was a lot of rather nasty 'transistor' noise on the output.

Do not plan on playing this unit through a PA, DI or no DI.

I play lo-fi rock but not that lo. I may choose to add noise to a track but I still want the choice. The pandorac produces too much noise for even four track recording.
I still like the tremolo and it's reverb if fine as long as you cut the top with the eq.
These days all it gets used for is my friend pretending to be a leprechaun singing through the pitch shifter saying,
"Where's me pot of gold? Me bag of donkey's knackers"

Im using my friend's Gibson guitar(dont know what model it is) with two humpbucking pick-ups and my peavy amp. No noise when im at home practicing. But when i use it on stage(yeah !! this is what i use for in all my gigs for almost 4yrs) it sometimes gives OFF those shittyyy feedback. I love the distortion chorus and phaser.. but i think the sound quality weakens as time pass bye.. hmmmm. kuz its already been abuse(drop, sit on, kick etc). The only thing i dont like is the volume, its not that loud.

Reliability : No Opinion
Yeah folks i gig with this thing. This is not an ideal thing to use on stage. But what can i do this is the only effects i got. I dont have a back up so when im playing live, im like suicidal =)hehe!! . So i must be careful not to step on it or not to spill beer etc. For protection i made a box with foam on it.

Thier website is good. Never dealt with em. But it would be nice if they have some patches to give just like the ones at Digitech

I choose this because of its sound quality and portability. Before buying this , i was relly gonna buy the Zoom 505 but when i test the Px-1 i was surprised with what this little box could do. Fuck zoom they suck !!!!!! But owning this thing had its disadvantage. One main reason is u will have a hard time using this on stage. But what the heck it won me 2 times in a battle of the bands here in our place. My band plays different kind of music from Alternative to Metal/hip hop metal/hardcore, from ballroom music to Pop(yuck!!!, =) but at least where paid$$$) and the pandora helps me achive those sounds. Now i bought the korg's ax100g im just waiting for it to arive. BTW Im a Korg loyal ...... luv u man!!!

Easy to use. Didn't need the manual either.

Just bought it today but the clean sounds pretty nice. There seems to be some hissing noise on every setting but if you're using this for practice you might not mind it. I wasn't expecting much from the distortion and that's exactly what I got. They all seem to be too noisy and the sound spreads out too much. Sounds digital too. Buying your own distortion pedal might solve the problem. I plug into an Ibanez Tubescreamer and a Big Muff before I connect to the Pandora and it sounds ok, I guess. The noise reduction is pretty nice but you can lose alot of sustain with it. Again, I only recommend this for practicing.

It's really light and plasticy :) I wouldn't drop it.

I've played alternative rock guitar for 7 years and this Pandora is a fun toy. I probably wouldn't buy it again, even if it was selling for the same amount (4500yen is about $35 now). This might be nice if its the first effect you've ever had though. I used to own the Korg AX30 and Boss GT5 but they just don't have the sound that I want so I'm collecting stompboxs now:)

Yeah, this unit is quite easy to use because there's only one parameter for each effect to edit. The manual does help, it explain about effects that go like Chorus1, Hall1, etc.. and also about the parameter we can edit. The original preset shows what this unit can do with your guitar sound, but programming your own sound will get you the best this unit can do for you.

Sound Quality : 7
I use Mexican Stratocaster with SSH pickup and Marshall VS65R combo. I must say that this unit noise reduction works well. Without this unit running on amp's FX-loop, the sound from distortion/overdrive channel was very noisy. The noise completely gone after I set the right amount of noise reduction on the unit. Good work, Korg! The effects mostly can't please my ear. Distortion/Overdrive sounds too 'digital' and modulation, delay, reverb sounds quite lame. Also this unit sucks the sustain of your guitar. Effects that I mostly use are compressor, chorus, and light reverb/delay, I rarely/never use the others. Well, for the price you paid for this unit, you can't complain about that. Headphone and CD input jacks are valuable asset for practicing, although I never use it.

Reliability : 5
This is definitely not a gigging tool. Although you can put it on your guitar strap (resulting some people thinking you're using wireless transmitter..), the sounds are not suitable for stage use. I really worried about those button and jacksockets, they don't look very durable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never deal with 'em.

I play rock, pop and some jazz, but this unit simply can't get me enough for those sounds that I wanted. I've been playing for 6 years and I own a Fender Strat plus two BOSS stompboxes. I like this unit because some of the fx sounds quite good and easy editing, but for overall sounds I can't really suggest this one. It's a good starting multi-fx for beginners, especially with the headphone/CD jacks that really helps you in practicing. For people with more buying power and playing experience, try getting a good rackmount fx. Instead of buying this unit, I suggest you better get your hands on that new Pandora series PX-3, it has more features than this one.

Save me. Most of the distortions on this unit are okay, the modulation is okay but cheesy and the delays are fine. The noise this pedal puts out is UNBELIEVABLY CRAP. There is so much white noise that no-one would ever take this pedal where it might be heard. Korg say you can use it on stage if your quick... you can use it on stage only if you are very, very slow... to throw the thing into the trash and get dirty stamping on it.

Plug in and go. I picked it up cheap, used and the previous owners user patches were still there. Very easy to edit, no manual and I was editing and saving patches in 5 minutes. I've ordered the manual, but realize now I probably won't need it. Who knows, it might show me even more options.

Sound Quality : 8
I have a Danelectro Mod and Yamaha acoustic with Crate amp. I run this through a Boss DD-5, Akai E1 Headrush, and Boss stereo chorus.
Some of the patches are unbelievably clean, while others provide more noise than I like. Effects vary. Maybe 25% of the presets are worthwhile, but it's so easy to edit you just can't lose. The Rotary patch owns. The distortions are very unusual. I'm not huge on distortion but these have a great presence.

Reliability : 7
Haven't had it too long. Feels very plasticy. We'll see. Seems flimsy but it's not for gigging, it's for practice/ studio.

Mad that Korg doesn't have all their old manuals on their site yet.

Overall Rating : 10
How can I complain. At $45 including ac adapter and shipping this thing is unbeatable. Half the price of a new pedal. With headphones this thing rocks, through the amp, not so much. I think it would work well into a mixer. Very easy to use, wide variety of unique sounds. I also own the Korg AX300G and was afraid there would be a lot of overlap. No way. The Pandora sound is very unusual and since I am generally working on soundscapes rather than death rock that totally works for me. Bring me the funky stuff.

The unit sound is O.K.But having compressor only without drive is a big mistake...The sustan in this unit is not good, so it's not suitable for solos that need much sustain. I don't think the distortions are warm enough. I play Heavy metal, and I think it's not the tool for it.

If you use it for practice, everything needed is there. It's definitely not a studio tool, neither a gig box. Use A/C adaptor cause it sucks the batteries (5-6 hours max).

Sound Quality : 5
I used it with several good guitars and in several Fender amps. The effects were very nice, but I lost all the dynamic and a lot of headroom, and it added a "nice" hum... so, I lost THE TONE and that is very bad for a multiFX, even if this one is the smallest and most design of the world ! Surprisingly, it sounded not so bad plugged dirctly in the mix console. Finally the only way I can use it is for practice. With headphones and CD plugged in, it's OK. But it's an expensive toy !

I dropped it twice without damage but I do my best to avoid a 3rd time. Anyway, it's more a toy than a real music device...

This thing can make just a ton of different sounds, and if you spend a few minutes with the manual you'll be able to get 'em all. It comes with 20 presets including some good distortions. It's simple to tweak any program, or change it completely, and give it a new name. You have control of lots of parameters including drive, distortion, reverb/ delay, chorusing/flanging, etc. Extremely versatile and a blast to mess around with. I found that some Pandoras had weaker output than others and none of them are particularly loud. Since this is mainly a headphone practice amp, be careful that you don't get a quiet one. By the way, the PX-1 has now been replaced by the PX-2 (see below).

Sound Quality : 8
As a headphone/practice device, the Pandora sounds great (I used it with a Jazzmaster, Tele Custom, and standard Strat). With an amp (Fender Super Reverb or Carvin AG-100), it didn't really cut through the band too well. The cabinet emulator (several types) makes it pretty good for direct-to-tape recording. Can be noisy, especially with single- coils at high gain, but you can compensate somewhat with the noise gate function. Finally, the Pandora has lots of great distortions... check out the "Zombie" preset if you like metal thrash.

Reliability : 5
This is not a gigging box---too fragile. The little power slide switch on the side is also used to enter edit mode and doesn't feel like it would last too long. The output jack on my Pandora quit at about 11 months. See below.

Customer Support : 10
My Pandora PX-1 crapped out one month before the warranty was up. I sent it to Korg and they replaced it with a brand new PX-2 (the new model), no questions asked. Pretty good, huh? 'Course, I don't know what they would have done a month later, but my experience with them was great.

Overall Rating : 8
I play surf, 60's, 70's new wave, other mixed-up weird stuff. Played since about 1964 and have some pedals, band equipment, the usual. I would buy another Pandora because it's really fun for practicing and you get a ton of sounds for not a lot of money. It expands my range of playing and gives me cool ideas for new songs to work up. Just don't expect the Pandora to substitute for some real effect units in a live band situation---it's a little weak in that environment.

For the price -- really good. A bit noisy if lots of highs on EQ. Distortions are ALL GOOD!!! It seems 12 types of distortions in the walkman-sized box. And all of they is really cool. Reverbs is good for practice, but not for recording (this unit isn't designed for that). Effect chain isn't flexible but you can turn on and off some devices (such as Amplitude or Delay effects). There's nothing better to practice and jam with CD's. WARNING: You better buy AC adapter, this unit eats a lot of alkaline batteries. Overall: nobody can beat this for the price, size and quality!

For a Mfx unit, the pandi box is about as easy as it gets. The manual is a big help towards patch editing.

Sound Quality : 7
I use the PX-1 daily and have learned pretty much all there is to know about it. I use it the following ways:
1) with headphones (small Sony) 2) thru a mixer and bigger headphones (AKG240) 3) thru a mixer and out hi-fi speakers 4) in the effects loop of an amp
1 & 4 sound best. Unfortunately with 4, you don't get stereo fx. 2 & 3 require to much gain and get hissy. The flangers, phasers and two reverbs(room and hall) are very good. The chorus and pitch shifter are on the weak side. Everything else is in between, except the wah, which sounds horrible.
I've gotten some pretty good sounds direct to tape, but I believe micing an amp is really the way to go.

Reliability : 9
So long as you don't drop it or step on it (both of which are very easy to do, seeing that it's smaller than a Walkman) it's perfectly reliable.

Tremendously easy, although it's not always easy to remember what button to push to write patches, etc, since they're very black and non-descript.

Sound Quality : 8
Since I'm just goofing around I use this as my only effect going into a Roland keyboard amp (pretty crazy huh?) The sound is generally good, but quite noisy. The noise gate works well but at high levels of gain there is an unmistakable hiss. All effects are well done, there are several types of distortion with adjustable gain, and enough chorus, flange, phaser, etc. I do wish you could have reverb and modulation at the same time though. You can get many different sounds but nothing too far-out. I like the auto-wah, the slow phaser, and the overdrives aren't too bad -- you can set 'em on low gain without getting too much grit. Also wish you could have compression w/ overdrive, and maybe parametric EQ.

Reliability : 5
Not very, the first one I got had a wanky AC jack and I had to take it back. The AC jack still feels crappy in my current one, and I worry about knocking the plug around and damaging the thing. But if that doesn't break the thing should last forever (it uses so little power!)

Customer Support : No Opinion
They're Korg, I guess they're cool!

Overall Rating : 8
I don't go portable much, I just use it for practicing at home. For this it is sufficient and it's cool that I can name the patches. I would upgrade to a more powerful pedal board if I had the impetus. Definitely the bomb for travelling, just make sure you get some efficient headphones or it'll be too quiet.

I found the Pandora very easy to get the hang of. The manual was not worth reading, but the description chart for the effects can come in handy. The naming of the effects could have been made clearer: the numbers 1 to 4 define which particular setting is active for the selected type of effect instead of names or 'real' values. And more scope for editing delays and mods would have been nice, but hey, you can make a decent sounding patch in under a minute so no big deal. The Pandora gives a wide variety of effects that are very easy to use and program, and if you wanted to be able to adjust the delays down to the nearest micro second you'd buy a rack unit, and most of those don't fit in your guitar case.

Sound Quality : 9
It is great to be able to hear a very clear guitar tone in stereo wherever you are, and without anoying others (unless you hum while you play!). Hearing two or three of the presets is what sold me on this unit (the majority of them are there to show off the features and so tend to be a bit exagerated) you can hear the quality and what is possible in the few decent ones (and replace/redesign the crap ones later). For 5-10 mins spent programming you can get a _very_ nice sound considering the size and cost of the Pandora. There's a wide range of useful distortions, the mods, delays,& echos are pretty good, and the Room and Hall reverbs are fantastic. I really miss a three band EQ though, and I find it hard to get as many varied blues tones as I would like because of this. I can not seem to get a nice clean tone without adding a chourus and layers of echo or reverb, but then again it sounds so nice with those that it's really no problem.

Reliability : 8
With it's minimal appetite for batteries and the option of using a DC adapter the PX-1 really does let you concentrate on your playing. It feels sturdy enough, though I like to keep it in it's box when not in use... just in case.

Overall Rating : 10
I found the PX-1 gives a larger range and better quality of overdrives than anything I've tried at remotely the same (new)price, including the new ZOOM 500 Series. I will be moving into a hostel next year and my amp will have to stay at home (500km away) so the PX-1 is the perfect substitute. It is versatile, has great sound quality, is extreamly easy to customize to your needs, and it's size and power rationing make it very hard to beat if it's these features that you want. If mine gets pinched I won't be able to afford another one for a while, and assuming the gods don't bestow another box upon me, I'll have to move back home. Needless to say I'll be protecting my Pandora with my life. As for the problem with headphone volume, try experimenting with different headphones. The loudest I've heard it so far was through some huge 20 year old cans, and they didn't sound to bad either. The ability to give your patches 6 character names is a really thoughtful feature. The Pandora is definitely worth a look and listen if it even comes close to your criteria for an effects-unit/headphone-amp.

Sounds are excellent. This litter palmed-size multieffects processor is a really killer. Distortions are good and even better if mixing with flanger... Some users complaint about the sounds are weak. They are right if they listen via the head phone. However, they are wrong if they play it thru the amp. This mfx sounds can drive and blow up your ears. The only effect that I think PX-1 needs to add-in is the DEPTH for the delay. The delays are good but can not be adjusted to get more sound hally deeper. Quite easy to use but fairly limited in terms of useful tones.

Sound Quality : 7
It has hiss (at any volume setting) when used with headphones. It also has a rather modest output. When used with a cheap set of headphones in the store, I could barely hear it at full out. With a second set (Audio Technica) it was better but still modest. At home I used an efficient Sony 7506 headset and had plenty of volume. These, however, are more bulky that I want to carry around. I finally settled for somewhat less efficient Radio Shack in-the-ear phones that come with a passive volume control. In this configuration, I run the Pandora at full volume and turn down the earphone attenuator until the hiss is gone. A that point I have just about the right volume for practicing with a clean blues sound.

I've limited experience with multi-effects units (I only had two Zooms, one portable and one half-rack before this unit), but I don't think programming a multi-fx unit can be any easier. The buttons got to be second nature wihin half an hour or so. The editing is very simple, thanks to the limited parameter of each effect. Since the controls are no rocket-scientist business, the manual (if you can call the manual a "manual" at all) is not required reading. The chart that briefly outlines each effect (not the patches, just the effects) is very handy though. So far, the sound of the unit is more than acceptable. One cannot expect full-rack (and expensive) sound from such small (and economic) unit. If you have this mentality, you'll not be disappointed

Hmmm, the sound cannot be compare to my Zoom, but they are pretty cool for the price and size. It does what it is suppose to, give you the "approximate" sound you want so that you can be creative - anywhere where you can take your guitar. With that inn mind, the sounds are more than decent.

Reliability : No Opinion
This unit is a personal unit, for unit for light duty, demo cutting, stuffs and practice. It is not meant to be gig with. It is not made for that purpose. So, if one says that it is not reliable and would not gig with one, that person is missing the point, big time. He/ she should not be buying a Pandora in the first place. Buy something made for that purpose. Egoistic comments aside, the unit is perfectly reliable in home situations so far. It looks as though it'll stay that way.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Hmmm, no idea. Never contacted the.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Bottomline. Take it for what it does. If you know what you want, you get what you want. If what you want is something that you can make tons of sound and use to inspire your music, something that you can use wherever you go with your guitar, something for the practice, something to experiement with sound in your mind, and so forth- The Pandora will by mythical, indeed.

This unit is extremely easy to use. Some of the preset sounds are a little rediculous but they're very easy to edit. The manual doesn't look like much but it provides the info you need...

Sound Quality : 9
Sound quality it excellent...all modulation and ambience effects are very quiet. The distortion effects can be noisy (preset sound "Zombie" for instance) but all you need to do is increase the noise-reduction level to take out the excess. Overall the effects are great (the "Room" sound under ambience is beautiful) the only thing I'm a little disappointed in are the Wah and Autowah effects the never seem to sound quite right.

Reliability : 9
Definantly...only drawback would be the lack of footswitching.

Overall Rating : 9
This unit is perfect for everything, from electric to acoustic to 2-track mixdown. The best part is that you can plug it into anything with an input (hi-fi gear, whatever)...however, it does sound much better running direct than through a guitar amp. Amps seem to add a lot of 1 to 4 kHz mid that seem to ruin the Korg's tone. Also, the processor's speed won't allow it to run the "Room" "Hall" or real-time pitch-shifter (there's a barely noticeable delay) with other modulation effects.

Compared to a muti-fex rack unit it's a breeze, however, if you're new to effects in gereral as are a number of my students that have played with mine, it's not as intutitive as a bunch of pedels. Of course it would take a thousand bucks or more to buy enough pedels to do what this little guy dose. Editing is pretty clear and the manual is good but again, I know what a "delay" is, a beginner may not. I think the manual should define these terms.

Sound Quality : 7
It's sounds really good. I would'nt use it for a serious session job or gig but for around the house it's just a blast. Actually I would use it at a gig only I'm doing a blues/jazz thing now and an amp and guitar is all I need. If I were doing a rock thing I'd use it. The drive options are very, very good. The delays are good as well. The chorus was a bit of a disapointment. The pitch shift is cool though as is the cabnit sims. I did try doing a little home recording with it and found it produced to much tape hiss to take seriously.

Reliability : 10
So far so good.

Overall Rating : 8
It's a lot of fun. I use it mostly for teaching to get a tone that students feel is like their favorite artist in my home but at a volume to keep naighbers at bay. The metronome and tuning are a fantastic bonus. It's a great value!! I'm only 31 but when I was growing up I never dreamed you could put this much stuff in a box. It seems like only yesterday I owned a 10 space rack( that rack did sound better ).And now I can put this thing in my guitar case! One thing they could do to improve it would be to put some sort of belt clip ( like a Walk Man ) to hook a strap if you want to use it at a gig.

Wow! This is one fine peace of machinery. It's very easy to program. Even a new comer to the world of effects had no problem getting a great sound out of it. The manual helps a bit explaining the effects, so it's not too bad either. Super machine!!!

The sound is great. I love the presets. The noise reduction does its duty, and there are many top notch sound effects.

I would buy many of these things. They are quite small, but they are big in everything else. Korg has done a superb bit of work on the Pandora. Highly recommended. Super!!!

Users with low volume complaints: I bought a unit and the output jack seemed to have a loose connection--it crackled when the headphone jack was wiggled. But overall it seemed to work okay. However, when I exchanged the unit, but second PX-1 was MUCH louder!!! Easily as loud as my portable CD player. I can't imagine this not being loud enough for most peoples, so people with low volume problems, consider trying another unit for comparison.

This has to be the easiest thing to use I've ever seen. Editing takes a bit of getting used to but it's not hard. The manual is a dumb little poster thing that isn't much help, but you don't need it much.

Sound Quality : 9
Excellent sound quality! There is no bad, noticable background noise I could detect. The effects sound great although some sound very similar, and others are, of course, useless. The quality of the effects is very impressive.

Reliability : 8
I've had no problems with it so far. It is somewhat unconventional in size and it's hard to find a place for it sometimes. The batteries take a long time to wear out (played 7 hours so far) and it looks sturdy. I use it mostly for practice, I can't see using it at a gig very well.

Overall Rating : 9
I would definately buy this again. It suits all my needs for practice, sounds great, and is the only one of it's type (size-wize). I looked at some other boxes but this one had the best overall quality. One complaint is that I would really like a pedal hook up, which it lacks. This is one product I would definitely recommend.

Although the buttons are small, it only takes about 5 minutes to get aquainted with the programming process. The fact that settings like delay and echo are preset makes it difficult to adjust if you have a particular delay time in mind. One great thing is the ability to name your programs. Fun, fun, fun!!

Sound Quality : 7
I don't have much experience with larger rack systems, so I really have nothing to compare the tiny Pandora with, but I assume that this unit has lost a bit of sound quality in its down-sizing. Since when did echo cause background noise?? There are so many effects on this unit that its almost essential for somebody who wants to get into the wide, expensive world of effects. Like all effects units, some patches are totally useless, but overall, I'd say this is a good machine with lots of possibilities. (did I mention it had a tuner, metronome and wah?) GREAT for use with a small practice amp.

Reliability : 6
Well, lets see... It dropped off my amp once ( a combo amp, so it wasn't that big of a fall), and the sliding power/edit switch broke off. Not very sturdy, but I wouldn't think of most people using this at a live gig, unless they had one setting on the whole time. I would say keep this one at home.

I would defrinitely buy this again, but only for a small setup, like a practice amp, for use at home. Don't get me wrong, it has sopme wonderful settings. I expecially love keeping one patch on the whole time, and tweaking the sound from my other pedals. It looks cool, too, if thats any use to some people. It is a bit noisy, and I hate using a gate.

Relative to other multi-effects units the Pandora is extremely easy to use. I have owned and used many DSP boxes over the years (Alesis, Roland, AMS, dbx, Eventide, etc.) and this is the simplest to get proficient in usisng.

Sound Quality : 7
I've read other reviews that claim the box is noisy. It's actually one of the quietest DSP's i've ever used (assuming the NR is used properly). I have to pluck a string sometimes, just so I know the thing is turned on. The effects sound good. They are not quite as good as some of the other full-size units I've used, but I doubt that for most purposes that anyone could hear the difference in a blind test. The flip-side to the ease of use is that the edit capabilities are compromised. On the other hand, you won't spend hours programming the thing. The distortions sound as good as any I have heard, including distortion sounds from overdriving the power tubes of expensive tube amps. This is, however, very subjective. The cabinet simulations sound great, but there are only a few. The pitch-shift effects are limited also.

I've only had the thing for a couple of weeks.

The pandora is a good value...i'd buy it again. I'd say it is the zenith of the whole rockman idea. For its size and price the effects are more than adequate and the distortion/overdrive sounds are great. It would be nice to try out other peoples patch settings.

This cassette sized unit comes with 20 factory presets which for the most part are very cool. A couple of the tube amp style presets just don't cut it (a little on the thin side), but they are easy to edit and fix. The manual is o.k. but not really required reading since operation is very intuitive.

Sound Quality : 9
All of the effects (distortion, tone (EQ), chorus, flange, phase, trem, pan, envelope filter (auto wah), random step filter, and various delays, echos and pitch shifters) are very good. I have not found noise to be a problem except on a couple of the over the top distortion settings (as is usual with ANY guitar effect). The cabinet resonator is just awesome! The room, hall, and pitch shifter cannot be used in conjuction with modulation type effects (ie. flange, etc) but again I haven't found this to be a big deal since the echos and delays (which can be used w/ modulation effects) are more than adequate. The distortions are subdivided into 2 groups: one group for use with an external amp and one group for use headphones). This makes a big difference in the sound. The amp settings sound good thru headphones, but the headphone settings leave something to be desired when played thru a tube amp. In previous reviews, folks have complained that the metronome is too loud. I have not found that to be the and like the sound much better than the digital "ping" I get from my current metronome. Past reviewers have also complained that the volume control doesn't go high enough. Again, I have to disagree. It's plenty loud (especially for practice) and if you want volume you should be playing thru your amp anyway.

N/A. No problems so far (1 month)

I really like this box! It's compact, the sounds are for the most part great and the tuner and metronome are excellent additions. It will fit in even the smallest guitar case. I mostly use this unit for practice, and I think this is where the Pandora excells. Although it could be used as part of your live rig, I think there are certainly more road worthy and versatile units available (like my Peavey Tube Fex). I think the Pandora would also work as part of a minimalist home recording studio.
I would definitely buy it again!

Getting started was pretty easy, Just select a patch and play... Editing was a little confusing, and the tiny manual didn't help at all.

Sound Quality : 6
Sounded OK, the distortion patches were kind of weak compared to other multi effects boxes i've tried... There was also a annoying crackling sound whenever i play... probably because I was using an adapter to connect my mini-headphones to it. Speaking of headphones, the volume was way to weak! Even with the overall level turn all the way up, it wouldn't even get up to a small roar... I compensated for that by going into the patches and turning up the single levels for the patches but that made it too noisy.

Reliability : 7
Its really small, and I'm afraid I might step on it and smash it into a gazillion pieces, However, I've dropped it many a times and it still working fine. Wouldn't go without a backup though.

I've only had it a couple days.

Overall Rating : 7
Its pretty good considering all the things you get in that little box, especially the tuner and metronome. Another plus is the direct recording capabilities. It definately could use a couple more patches. But for all the stuff it's got and its tiny size, its a pretty good deal. I'd probably buy it again.

If you've used these computer gizmos before its pretty easy to use the presets but programing it is a little more difficult

Sound Quality : 5
As others have said it's very quiet, too quiet in fact. I purchased this for use as a really good headphone practice amp since I'm having problems with the neighbors. But the Pandora just isn't loud enough. With my AKG K240 headphones it was barely audible. With another cheaper pair of headphones it was better but my Walkman is louder....much louder. This may be some sort of impedence problem but after spending about $250 for a headphone amp I'm be damned if I'm going to buy headphones too. I also thought that too many of the effects, particularly the distortion effects just sounded too much alike.

Reliability : No Opinion
This is a light duty rig that wouldn't be appropriate for a gig. Way too fragile. But thats not what it's intended for. For the short time I had it it functioned ok.

Just not load enough for my purposes. I wanted a headphone amp that would let me play the way I would if I didn't have any neighbors. So for my purposes it wasn't too good.

It has good and bad qualities. The presets are great, although there are only 20 of them. Unfortunately, the only way to get from program 1 to program 6 is to hit + 5 times. So if you are recording and need to switch sounds, you had better program the unit in order. Nice feature: you can always get the original factory presets back (combination of powering up and holding some semblance of buttons). I wish I could say that about my M1. As for editing, it's limited, which could be beneficial or disadvantageous depending on how many hours you like to spend crafting effects.

Sound Quality : 10
Fantastic. Sure, some of the Zoom and Art floor pedal units make it easy to switch, but none that are even close in price can match the clarity and warmth of the PX-1. I was amazed when I first heard it. The cabinet resonance feature really provides an almost three dimensional depth to the sound quality. There is zero noise, which you may or may not like, but I appreciate the cleanliness.

Reliability : 8
I've only owned it for a month and change, but so far so good. I've played at least 12 hours on one set of batteries; it has great staying power. Its compact size makes it easy to protect. Other Korg products I've owned have been flawless.

There are 20 presets which come standard on the unit, and they are all usable and tasteful, with the exception of the pitch transposer (which I would never use).
In particular, there is a "Warm" overdrive which is pretty impressive for gritty rhythm guitar lines. Delay, Reverb and Chorus are all good but limited. I like this because it keeps me focused on playing guitar rather than programming an effects unit.

Definately worth buying for many reasons, including the overall sound, the fact that it is smaller than the average tuner, it is relatively inexpensive, and has a stereo headphone jack for practicing without an amp.
We'll see if it replaces my completely ART.
