This pedal does everything you ever wish an overdrive pedal to do. I was expecting alot from it, and it beat those expectetions. I have had so many compliments on this pedal. I took it to a guitar store with me while searching for a custom shop strat and the owner was in awe over the tone this thing produces. If you want to sound like SRV or Hendrix this thing creates those tones beautifully. It does not change the tone of your guitar or cover up the tone you already have. I play a fender custom shop 1960 NOS stratocaster and a 52 reissue tele through a fender deluxe. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!I cried when i plugged into this pedal and then played non stop for hours.

I play blues and rock and could not imagine not having this pedal. It sounds beautiful and looks beautiful as well. If you are considering a new ts808 buy this instead. It is something that is unique and not many people will have. They will want it when they find out what it is. I gaurantee you WILL NOT be disapointed in purchasing this pedal.

I'm using a Fender Jap Strat with Kent Armstrong single coils with the effects chain as: Vox Wah, P&J, Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe, straight into a Carvin Nomad 1x12 55w all valve combo. It is the purest sound you could possibly get of the SRV tone. It has the attack, warmth I always wanted out of a pedal.

I would definately depend on this for gigs of any size. Although it's always wise to have a backup, i do take my Jacques Fuse Blower just for backup only! I use the P&J everytime.

I play in a in-your-face type of style, I attack the guitar as hard as I can and with that, the P&J is a perfect match for me. I've been playing since I was 11, I'm now 24 and always searched for 'that' sound in my head. Although everyone's taste is different, I go for the raunchy, aggresive type of blues, like SRV, Kenny Wayne, etc. I own various other effects units and different guitars, but for me, a strat, P&J, and a valve amp is the way to go. I did compare this to the ibanez TS808, TS9, TS10 and the P&J just kicked it's ass without sweat. Awesome tone! I've been unhappy with my sound for quite a while now and my sound has held me back from letting rip and finding that 'hair standing on the back of your neck' type of feel with a band. But believe me, I have it now in the bag with the P&J, buy one know, you won't be disapointed.

Very easy. It's got controls for overdrive, level & tone. You just fiddle with the knobs(ooer!) to get the tone you want. And believe me, if it's quality tone you want - this pedal's got it.

I'm currently using my '94 Fender Stratocaster through a Fender Frontman amp. The Strat's been upgraded with Lace Sensor Custom Shop Ultra Hot Gold Pickups, its otherwise completely stock. As promised, this pedal can give you the tones of Jimi, Stevie Ray and loads of others - in fact, pretty much any kind of "classic" overdriven tones. It breaks up just right and is easily controllable via the guitar's volume knob. Now don't get me wrong - if it's modern hi-gain characterless noise you're after, you shouldn't buy this pedal, basically it would be wasted on you! But if you have an ear for quality tone and like to actually hear what your fingers are saying, then it doesn't get much better than this (I actually prefer it to an early 80's TS9 I've played through).

I haven't had the pedal long, so I can't really comment, but being a hand made unit it certainly appears solid enough and all components (input/ouput jacks, footswitch etc.) feel solid enough. I would be comfortable using it on a gig wothout a backup, but if it did break I'd then be totally lost without it.

Rhys Ladipo is a gentleman through and through. All my questions were answered quickly and curteously, and I was kept up to date with regards to the pedal's construction progress. I know Harmony Central don't generally like glowing reviews, but honestly, the pedal and the service received are very, very good. If they weren't, then quite simply I wouldn't be writing this.
This P&J is the current upgrade, and if anything were to go wrong I'm 100% confident that Rhys would sort it out - no probs.

I play everything really, from classic rock, rock, metal, jazz & blues. I've been playing now for nearly 12 years, and have struggled to get a really usable tone out of the myriad of effects I've owned. Simply put, this pedal gives me a rich, controllable overdriven tone that lets people actually hear what I'm playing. My Strat now sounds like what an overdriven Strat tone should be! This pedal's isn't for generating huge gain - if I want that I use my Zoom multi effect sustem - But for the sound I want, I believe its the cream of the crop. I have loads of other pedals, TS9's etc., but there's something a little bit special about this pedal that just does "it" for me. If it were stolen I would have to buy another one - it really is that good - the only thing I waish it had is a padlock and chain so I could chain it to the floor, then no-one's gonna steal it!! My advice? If you want quality overdriven tone that makes even a little tranny amp sound like a hard driven classic valve amp, then this is the pedal. I know it seems expensive, so I haven't given it a 10 (if the pedal was for free I'd give it a 10, but things like that just don't happen, do they?!), but it is hand made and a little bit different, so in my opinion worth the extra expense. As I've already said, don't get it if its distortion and high gain you're after - it isn't what this pedal's about. But if you really care about what you and your music sound like, The P&J is a really hard act to beat.

Running into a Peavey JSX and a Marshall SLP with a Strat and a Hartfield with H-S-H set-up. The Pride and Joy is very quiet evn on the highest settings. The effect is a little "one diminsional" to me...I wish it was a little more "open" sounding.
I does the SRV-Hendrix thing very well...especially on a Strat.
Very "warm" sound...no brittle high end here...even through the JSX...the tone remains nice and "round." It's the best sounding 808 clone I have ever heard.

For SRV and Hendrix type blues...this pedal rules! It has a lot more gain than most 808 clones and would work fine for harder rock also.
I'm a 35 year veteran...own 32 guitars and a wall of amps. The "Pride and Joy" wound satisfy anyones thirst for SRV tone.

For ease of use the P&J is very simple to use, based on the TS808 tube screamer it has three pots (overdrive, tone and level) and a 9 volt DC power supply. It can also run on a 9 volt battery which situated inside the pedal, just remove four grub screws for access! Getting a good sound out of this pedal is simple. I use the overdrive between 7 and 8, and the tone pot is situated about half way and I push the level right up to get that classic tube screamer! This pedal has so many varied sounds that most guitarists will find a sound to suit them with great ease.

I use a Stratocaster as my main guitar but I also use a Telecaster and a Les Paul. The P & J doesn't produce that much background noise, even when the over drive and levels are cranked right up! The effect has a strong smooth tone when using it for chord work giving plenty of punch and definition, and the lead work gives you plenty of drive and attack with loads of sustain when you dig in! Although I use a mesa boogie dual rectifier combo which is a great versatile amp, using the clean channel with the 6L6's (giving that glassy fender sound) the P&J really draws out the tone. However, when moving into lead work I add some vintage gain to the second channel to milk the sustain out of those notes with ease! Even if you?re just ripping into some blues and you want that SRV sound it?s here in abundance! So all in all the P&J on its own or in backed up with chorus / comp the sound cuts right through the mix.

So far the pedal has proved to be very dependable. I haven't had cause to use a backup for gigs. All of the components used in the construction of this pedal are top quality so in terms of reliability you'd expect to be able to use it without backup.

Rhys Ladipo is a very friendly guy, providing first class customer support. No query is too large or too small and most of the time you'll find your question has been dealt with beyond the call of just a minimal response. Technically, he has the skills and expertise to produce pedals that will enhance any guitar player?s sound but specifically with the requirements you have in mind, making the purchase completely unique! He is also more than willing to share the process with you, adding a distinctive one to one relationship that is very rare these days. From my point of view he cares about the quality of his work which adds an air of professionalism that will make you want to deal with him again and again as well as recommending him to your mates! I would use this guy over commercial shops anytime!

I play blues, rock n roll and funk, so this pedal is a perfect match for all these different genres. I?ve been plying now for about 17 years and also own a full tone full-drive 2, Bixonic Expandora, Big Muff and have had numerous overdrive and distortion pedals in the past. If it were lost or stolen then I would have to buy it again as I really like the way it enhances my sound and playing. The only comparison made really was with the Ibanez tube screamer, which I used many years ago, however it wasn't a question of choosing one over the other, I decided to try out something new and different. I?m very pleased and very happy with my purchase and the overall quality it has now given me!

Nobody needs a manual with this pedal. Based upon the good old TS808 it's got 3 control knobs that you can virtually put anywhere you want it and it'll reward you with a guitar sound that is, to say the least, inspiring! Downmarks for no easy access battery-compartment, although I am informed that that is now rectified.

The pedal doesn't alter your guitar tone or disguise your playing (it is not a distortion pedal) but you will need a decent guitar and YOU have to do the playing: be prepared! But the rewards will be great. All the great players seem to live in there: SRV, the 3 Kings, you name them. I don't normally use any pedals but I've got an old 60's VOX AC30 and a 70's Marshall Superlead 100 both of which have to be turned up dramaticly up to earbleed inducing levels to get a good sound with a bit of edge to it. Put the P&J in front of either and, just like the old Ibanez or Maxon TS808, they amps break up at levels that won't get you arrested. It doesn't introduce any new noise to the set up (just as well when you using old valve amps: they're noisy enough without outside help!)

I've been playing most guitar styles known to man over the last 36 years and I remember the original TS fondly. The Pride & Joy pedal is soundwise as close to the original as you want (better in some aspects even) and it's cheaper even though it's totally handbuild! Currently it's housed in a EH type box with an admireable non-PC front-print. This pedal could be truer to it's origins and history and should therefore be re-homed in a smaller box dressed in that well known violent green. Also I would add to this an easy access battery-compartment and an indicator (led) to tell me whether the pedal is on or off.

i play in covers band, and find this pedal best suited to giving a crunchy (wound-up fender amp)type sound,if you are into heavy saturated type distortion this is not for you.i would replace it for another if it was lost etc,as i find it as good (but quiter)than my ts808,i think a small improvement would be a neon light on the casing, handy if you only use it for a slight clean boost!but i,m sure rhys would fit one if you specified it.

I have been playing guitars for close to 30 years now. And, I guess I have owned, or at least tried out, most effect pedals ever manufactured. And, this pedal will not let you get a bad sound, no matter how hard you try. That is, if you have a guitar that produces a good sound in itself, and you actually do know what a guitar is and how to play it. It is very easy to get a good sound of it. The pedal has a bypass button, and dials for Overdrive, Tone, and Level. Something that most people understand and know how to use.
Sound Quality
:

I changed the strings on my Les Paul, listened to a few songs with Steve Ray Vaughan, and tried to dial in the same tone using the Pride & Joy. And, in less than a minute I was getting very close. I couldn't quite get there though. Probably due to the fact that I am using a different type of guitar.
It doesn't stop there. Rhys Ladipo, the creator of this sublime wonder (ok, according to my own experience), claims that you can easily get the sounds that artists like Rory Gallagher, Robin Thrower, Walter Trout, Albert King, and the champ himself - Jimi Hendrix, makes on their wonders. And, he is right. They are all in there. All you need is a little bit of patience, a good set of ears, and you'll find them. Or, at least get very close. And, if you are looking for your own sound, you should be able to find that in there too.
This pedal is a TS808 emulator, and it does a good job.
No noise. On any settings. Either with the effects punched in, or when you bypass it.
Amp is irrelevant. Use this pedal to restore some of the analogue and vintage sound on your digital setup. To get a little bit of "warmth" if you will. You'll hear the difference.
However, I use a Fender Hotrod DeVille 212. But, I have also tried the pedal through a Marshall 5506 bass amp, and directly connected into my Soundcraft 6000/600 mixer. And, even connected to my home stereo. It doesn't matter. The distinct sound is there whether you like it or not.
Reliability
:
No Opinion
The pedal is built using quality components that are sorted and tested by hand. Including the JRC4558D OP-AMP and 1960'S type carbon composite resistors. I have no doubt in my mind that it is very reliable, but I have only owned it for a short period of time so I don't feel it's right of me to rate it at this time.

I have, during the close to 30 years I've been playing, played all styles of music. But, I guess blues, rock, jazz, is what my heart desires the most.
I love everything about it. If there was thing that might have been different, it would have to be the size of it. It is larger then most pedals, but maybe that only contributes to makes it even more special.
I have compared it to different similar pedals, and there's no comparison really.
Oh, another thing I like about it is the price. Compared to other handmade effect pedals that I have owned, this one is a bargain. I must admit that I was a little bit skeptical the first time I heard the price, but that skepticism is all gone now.
I would replace it right away if it was stolen or lost.
