Ease of Use : 4
the usual fare of 3 knobs mounted on a case that is absolutely MASSIVE,it just about squeazes under the lid of my pedal board, the power socket surround on the back isnt cut very neat so ive had to trim it to smarten it up.

Sound Quality : 4
my current set is a 57 reissue strat through a pro reverb reissue.ive used this side by side with my fulltone od,the fulltone has a much sweeter drive,it gets me to buddy guy heaven, this p&j seems to fall short, it doesnt nail it for me,my mate has one of the new blackstar pedals which was 40 quid cheaper,i wish id got that instead as i think i believed too many of the earlier reveiws, the p and j isnt that perfect.

Reliability : 3
the knobs didnt feel that secure so i thought i would tighten them on,they are screwed onto splined shafts! the shafts should be a solid type to use screw knobs, splined shafts are for splined knobs, these are gonna keep coming loose.very poor design.

Customer Support : 1
my experience was uncannily close to a review previous,i waited PATIENTLY for nearly 2 months then asked what was going on,the manufacturer got very moody about it,all this "what a helpfull guy" stuff is made up in my opinion.

Overall Rating : 3
for this price,159.99 + 9.99 postage,it should be in a better case with a proper paint job or even powder coated, theres a picture of a have half naked woman on top which is poorly produced and just looks tacky,i like the george and mildred joke,oh yes and by the way there is a wooden block inside, there was no packaging or garantee details, just a bit of paper with a dc plug diag, this isnt a boutique pedal, its an expensive poorly produced pedal.itll be on ebay soon..

Sound Quality : 10

Ease of Use : 10
The pedal is simple to use and I enjoy the sound. The thing is useful on any setting. The ease of use was expected but the sounds were more than I bargained for.I have an Xotic RC, BB ,vintage TS808. TS9, Cesar Diaz SquareFace, Keeley compressor, Fulltone Octafuzz, and a few others. The point is the Pride and Joy does what all or least most of these fail at. Non-colored,transparent,subtle,responsive-control sensitive overdrive.

Sound Quality : 10
I have a 1960 Stratocaster and a 1966 Vibrolux Reverb and the pedal just makes it all sound awesome to me.I have about a dozen other pedals(some same in purpose/concept/design)but none as satisfying.

Reliability : No Opinion
I do not believe there would be a dependability issue.I would use it without a backup.Rhys was so helpful and kept me informed constantly communicating with me.I cannot imagine the thing failing, it is built like a tank.I asked Rhys for to build a second one anyway, because I want to give it as a gift to my son who enjoys the same music I do.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Rhys was so helpful and kept me informed, constantly communicating with me.I do not believe there would be any issue that we could not resolve easily.I went to his website to begin with at SmoothDeltaJetBlues and I knew there would be a 2-3 week period for building. That was delayed two days for parts and Rhys kept me informed from the beginning. Handbuilt, halfway around the world,WORTH the price and the PATIENCE I invested without a doubt.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Blues music is all there is for me.I know that that sounds restrictive but when every genre, generation and reincarnation is considered,it is a massive-nearly boundless territory. The Pride and Joy is a perfect match.I have been playing since 1980s and this pedal has not turned me into anybody else.I did not expect a magical transformation of "me" into something more than I am but what I got was very nice indeed.I like the sensivity of the controls and all of the useful sounds.Too I do have a nice template to begin with-the Blackface Vibrolux Reverb is as everyone knows a clean amp with a wonderful sound anyway. That's if you like sparkly clean, note clarity and the breakup that many people appreciate.I would buy again if the need arose. The housing is a bit bulky but that is mentioned only because if someone was using a pedalboard it could be troublesome for the space required. It is the size of 2 Tubescreamers but twice as nice as 2 Tubescreamers also. However it is smooth and not as abrasive.

Ease of Use : 6
3 standard controls so no problems here, although it is housed in a massive unfinished box so if you are intending to fit it to a pedal board(as i have)beware as it sits above everything else making fast switching between pedals rather tricky.

Sound Quality : 6
there a lot of pedals that do what this is hyped to do and i have to say this is NOT the holy grail that previous reveiws imply it is,yes it does the ts8o8 thing(but so does a ts808 & more cheaply)this past week ive gigged twice with it and im tempted to go back to my Crowther Hotcake(again a cheaper option) as to my ears it just does not seem to have "it" like the Hotcake does or even my Trex Moller which has a further boost option. There is a lot of hype attached to this pedal, i was told by Rhys Ladipo himself that this unit will make you sound better because it has the best components available, well it doesent & im sorry Mr Ladipo but there are better units out there.

Reliability : No Opinion
who knows, cant really say but im lucky to never have had a pedal pack up on me, but there isnt really much to go wrong its just some wires screwed onto a wooden block(yes a wooden block)im not kidding.

Customer Support : 1
Well this is where it all fell on its arse.i ordered this unit on ebay from who appears to be Rhys Ladipo` partner for 145 pounds + 9.99 for next day signed for delivery,i had an email to say it would be 2-4 weeks, but they would keep me informed of its progress,so after 3 weeks of nothing i sent an email for progress, its nearly ready was the reply.a further week of nothing passed,so another email sent,it sounds great & will be sent in the next few days with tracking number was the reply,5 days passed so yet another email sent,im finishing the case today(friday) so will post on monday,a week later(pattern starting to build)nothing! email again,i will post it on good friday & you will get it tuesday.guess what? thats right nothing,so i opened a dispute on ebay, then the reply came, its been posted today(monday)it will be with you by the end of the week(although i paid next day delivery)and guess what? nothing,so friday night i got Mr Rhys Ladipo`s number & rang him,he said it had definately been posted & to wait till next wednesday just in case,he did say as ive waited so long he would but a voucher in the box for a discount(how? when its been posted, mmm something fishy)if it hadnt arrived ring back for a refund.so have a guess? so thursday i emailed for a refund,no reply, saturday morning a 2nd hand envelope arrived, it was the pedal, no box just a bit of bubble wrap, the pedal was covered in dust & did not look new at all, one knob was loose and fell off in my hand, i had look inside, the case has been signed to someone called Tom, i.e not me, i felt absolutely sick, ive waited all this time(nearly 3 months) for what appears to be a used pedal,i logged a complaint on ebay and have received a rather brutal response from Mr Ladipo, basically not the most honest person to deal with,it makes me wonder how many of the previous reveiws arent from the man himself.

Overall Rating : 2
i wanted this pedal to be the icing on the cake but after all i went through to get it, i feel sick everytime i look at it, considering how much it cost it is in no way worth 145 pounds, there are alot of better units on the market,im lucky that i can afford these things, ive been looking at getting one of these for a few years after watching the reviews build up,maybe ive turned off to it after poor service i received, the case is unfinished, the picture on top deserves to be on the wall in George & Mildred, its components are probably worth 30 pounds tops.consider one of these if you want but try over pedals first i own the crowther hotcake(superior to this)catalinbread scod, trex moller and others, if i knew what i know now the Ladipo Pride & Joy would not have been an option.we guitarists are a strange breed,a pedal not only has to translate what we hear in our heads but looks cool! the cool has been missed off the agenda with this one.

As it's basically a copy of a certain little green pedal it's easy to use, same controls as all the rest, no surprises.

Sound Quality : 5
On a 'tone' per pound/dollar basis I'd score this clone between 2 or 3.
There are so many hand made pedals using this circuit on the market today and the 'pride and joy' is a typical example, it's unrealistically priced @ ??140.00 + ??9.99 for second class postage. Even using the very best materials the component parts list would only top out @ around ??25.00 per pedal leaving the maker with a profit per unit of around ??115.00 and as far as I'm concerned that's just pure greed on the manufactures part, no excuses. I really don't see the logic, it's just a clone of a Ts9/808, the build quality is ok but the pedal looks 'cheap', the graphics are very poor quality and realistically the 'sound' is no better than something like the digitech 'bad monkey' and with the genuine Ibanez ts808 reissue currently being offered by some stores in the UK for only ??79.00 it's just doesn't cut it.

Reliability : 5
No better than any other stomp box BUT beware of loose jack sockets.

Customer Support : 2
Try getting your money back ! you'll be lucky. Send it for repair ?
UK Postage to Lapido via first class = ??4.50 + the cost lapido charges for return of unit via second class postage = ??9.99....
If that sounds like a good deal to you then go for it.

Overall Rating : 2
If you're in the market for a real 'Stevie Ray' tone get a Ts808 reissue, shop around and you'll pick one up in the UK for under ??90.00 but if it must be a hand made/boutique pedal go for a USA built HBE Power Screamer @ ??125.00....that's ??125.00 for a hand built unit that has a few 'boutique' extras + a boost option, it's made in the USA, the graphics are top notch, the workmanship is top quality and considering the price you pay for a HBE pedal that's been shipped half way across the world from the USA and had import duty and vat added to the cost (unlike the Lapido) and still manages to provide it's makers with a decent profit, the 'pride and joy' just seems like a total a rip off.

The P&J is very easy to use, only 3 knobs: drive, level and tone just like the good ole' tube screamers. Rhys includes an A4 on which is all you need to know:
His contact details, What type of adapter you would need and basic settings suggestions.

I have the latest Midnight Lightning version

Sound Quality : 10
I am using a Fender Stratocaster with Texas Special pickups. I plug it into a Fender Super Reverb 65 reissue. I have no noise issues at any setting. The P&J sounds great at any setting. If you're into SRV/Albert King, put the level to 8 o' clock and drive to the max. Use the tone knob for sweetness. And..... Wham! it's there! Your fingers have to do the rest of course! The sound is much richer, brighter and more powerful than the TS808 reissue that I own as well.

Reliability : No Opinion
Just had it for a couple of weeks, so I can't really tell just yet.
But it's built very sturdy. If I have to make any negative comment on the pedal it would be the casing. It's a bit big for what it does and could use a bit more finishing touch, it's a bit "industrial". On the other hand, this thing won't break either ;)

I would use it without a backup, hard to imagine that it would break down.

Customer Support : 10
Rhys is a very cordial and patient guy. The build time of my P&J took quite a while. So I bugged Rhys quite frequently by mail, sorry Rhys;) He was always kind and explained what he was doing. He only lets the P&J leave his hands when he is absolutely convinced of the quality. Guys, it's worth the wait!

I had no trouble with it yet, I am absolutely positive that Rhys would do an excellent support. One sign of this is the "life long warranty"

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing the Blues for 18 years now. Steve Ray Vaughan is my hero and I have been searching for a sound that has the power that Stevie had. Th eP&J is the pedal if you're playing blues and rock. If you want to go metal, this is not your pedal imho.
I also own a Gibson ES-335 dot reissue, did not try that one out yet...

If it were stolen I would definately buy it again.
I compared it to a TS9 and TS808 reissue because I own these products. They are now lying around my desk somewhere. The P&J is in my gig bag.

This is a Pride and Joy Gold Edition "Midnight Lightning".

Three dial controls; Overdrive, Tone and Level; Footswitch; 1/4" input and output jacks and 9v DC power and LED. 9v internal battery and 4 screws to access. Nothing to get confused with here!

Sound Quality : 10
American Deluxe Ash strat with rosewood fingerboard and noiseless pickups; American blonde ash maple neck telecaster. Fender Champ.
This pedal runs very quiet. You can get a wide variety of useable tones with just subtle changes. The overdrive is really nice as there's good sustain, plenty of separation with chord work and no mush. Plenty of level if your like to wind it up but that'd be missing the point. Interacts with your guitar's controls. Instant SRV or Hendrix!

Reliability : 10
It's a big pedal but thats not a bad thing. The controls are set away from the controls so you're least likely to accidentally knock it off a setting. The controls themseves are aluminium with a notch to give some indication of where they are set. Four glued on rubber feet. It's built like a tank so I can't imagine it failing.

Customer Support : 10
These pedals are hand built so be prepared to wait but its worth it and in the meantime if you've any questions an e-mail to Rhys will get you a prompt reply :)

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for nearly 30 years. I'm mostly into indie rock and rock / blues. Rhys Ladipo's Pride and Joy is one of those things I wish I'd had from the start. I'd have saved a mint! I'd certainly keep it in my effects chain. To be honest there's little else I'd use as it doesn't suck tone and is a wonderful smooth overdrive. The tone control is especially sweet. It's definately worth spending time testing how the controls interact.

Ease of Use : 9
On receiving the P & J in the post within minutes I'm hitting 'Wheels of Fire' tone with no effort (on an American series standard strat, too)...
Jimi, Stevie are all there too with a bit of judicious twiddling...
I tried out the P&J last w/end. It was a small pub gig and not one where we can crank it up but the pedal is a big big improvement over what I have been using to get a good sound at lower volumes - have both the standard TS9 re-issue and the Keeley modded TS808 with mixed results but the P & J blows them away...
I seem to think I have more 'freedom' in what I am able to do - whatever sound I am looking for is there as it seems to make everything 'more alive' and certainly more 'touch sensitive' eg it is touch sensitive without the annoying barks and clunks and whistles you always seem to get with touch sensitive amps. It is almost as if the P & J has a 'brain' of its own and is deciding what to sonically emphasise and what to discard.

Sound Quality : 9
The P & J is much smoother, creamier and more 'stable' sounding than the standard Tube Screamers which sound weak, nasal and harsh by comparison. The standard TS9 re-issue I have was seriously 'weak sounding' against the other two....the Pride and Joy matched my Keeley 808 modplus for gain but was infinitely sweeter and more musical-sounding with lots of juicy mids....which is my thang....

Reliability : 9
Very solid and well made. Box is on the large side for a Tube Screamer clone and consequently takes up more real estate on my pedal board than its predecessor but it has its own individual identity and looks good.
The components are all top grade and I don't think it would ever 'conk out' on me or need servicing. I'd love a spare but I don't think I'd ever need it....

Customer Support : 10
Rhys Lapido is a rare find in these days of generally poor customer service from music stores and dealers.
He answers every query, no matter how trivial and is always polite and helpful and adds a personal touch.
The nature of his pedals means that they are hand-built, to exacting specifications and consequently there will be small delay occasionally. However, the wait is well worth it and Rhys won't ever send anything out that has not been finished and tested properly.
I am sure there would be no variation in standard in a series of these pedals due to his first-class care and attention whereas I have often found tremendous differences in the quality of mass-produced store-bought items.

Overall Rating : 10
The main thing for me (being a Santana man) is the 'softness' and 'velvetiness' of the distortion...all the tube screamer types I've tried (including much praised tru-bypass mod-plus versions.. da de da de da etc) would strip paint off the walls with their harshness and brittleness in the tone...but this is different. It is like comparing real dairy cream to semi-skimmed milk...
The P7J definitely has an extra dimension to the sound...it seems to work with me rather than cause me problems. The sound is clearer, yet more driven and, despite the better distortion, seems much more 'articulate'. I feel there is more of 'me' coming through.
Since getting the P & J I am discovering a confidence in my playing that I was beginning to doubt I had before. I would always be 'half-worrying' about my sound and what the next solo would sound like as I felt I was always having to wrestle with my gear to get a good tone. Now with the P & J - 'seriously good tone' is always there - on instant access, whenever I need it...indeed I am tempted to leave it on all the time as I think my Strats could do with a little something 'extra' in most situations (a bit like Clapton's strat's built-in 'mid-boost' )....
Unless you can afford a Dumble etc...the Pride and Joy will seriously sort out your tone for not much money...
It is a superb piece of work and I am very very happy with it.

This pedal is realy easy to use. only 3 knobs. you can put it in any
position and it still sounds great. You can turn the knobs with your
toes if you want to.

Sound Quality : 10
I can get the sound of Stevie ray vaughan with this pedal. No other
pedal can get this beautifull sound. don't look any further or any
longer for other blues overdrives cause this is the one. I use a
Stieve ray Vaughan Fender and it sounds great with the pride and joy.

The P&J isn't noisy at all on any setting. I like the fact that it
has true bypass. the pedal doesn't affect the sound of your
guitar/amplifier at all.

I use a Dynacord Eminent 1 Amp, wich sounds a little different than
a modern amps. It sounds like a Fender and Marshall in one Amp.

Reliability : 10
You can really depent on this pedal. Hit it whit a hammer a 1000 times and it still lives. you certainly not need a backup if you use
this pedal.

Customer Support : 10
I never dealt with the builder of this pedal, and probably never have to. If it ever breaks......... than you used the pedal not for guitar playing i think.

Overall Rating : 10
I compared this pedal with the famous ts-808 and a ts-9, but the ts-808 is really empty. you don't get a real stevie sound from it. The ts-9 was even worse. I think that if stevie still lived, he would buy the P&J, no doubt about that.

I play al kinds of music but my heart belongs to Stevie ray vaughan and jimi hendrix. I think that Rhys Ladipo took a piece from stevie's soul and put it in this pedal. The Pride and joy gives me inspiration, it really improves my guitar playing.

But for now, i'm going to play guitar.

Very easy to get a great sound. Simple design with very broad tone choices. Mine was made spring of 2006 right after he custom made one for Buddy Guy. He told me the changes he made in design for Buddy were the best ever so he stuck with them for all future models.

Classic Blues Rock sounds better than any pedal I have ever heard. Completely transparent. Using it with a Fender Rivera 1x12 Concert and it sings at any level

Reliability : 10
Built like a Tank, no issues. No Back up needed

Rhys Ladipo is a great and gracious guy. He really strives to get the best out of his custom designs. No upgrade needed.

For you guys who think modded TS-808's and TS-9's are tops, you have not heard what this pedal can do. Boutique pedals are common and several claim to give the SRV sound but none can do it like this pedal does. Next time your shopping for a Tube Screamer do yourself a favor and spend it on the Pride and Joy. You'll have no regrets and your freinds who own Tube Screamers will have to look up and just wish they could get that tone and clarity out of their pedal that you'll get with ease.

This pedal is extremely easy to use- Overdrive, Tone and Level.
No programming needed here.

Sound Quality : 10
I have used the Pride and Joy with with all of my guitars- a'62 and other Stats, a "Steve Morse-type Tele with HB (It really kicked with the Steve Morse Signature Humbucker)and SC pickups and a Yamaha SA 2000- 335-Type. True bypass, no noise and very musical.

My main amp is a Mesa Lone Star and I have also played the Pride and Joy through my old '71 Fender Champ.

I'm quite astonished by the many personalities that can be coaxed out of The Pride and Joy.

Gently caress her(Once you have seen one of these you'll know that she is beautiful) and she is smooth and silky. Dig down with more authority though, and an aggressive beast emerges that bites, all while still maintaining the musical harmonics of the notes and chords that are being played.

The Pride and Joy nails the Albert King/ SRV sound as no other device can, and that should be reason enough alone for any guitarist to want one as part of their rig.

But what impresses me the most is its ability to express the a player's individual emotional tone- the one that comes from the heart, mind and fingers. There is no homogenizing here. Nothing gets lost.

Its that good.

Reliability : 9
I have only had this pedal a short while, but it is built like a hand-made, hand-wired tank both inside and out. It looks, feels and even sounds very dependable. The components and casing are top-notch as well. But if it did break down at a gig I can still muster plenty of sounds out of my amp.

I give it a 9 only because I have had it for a short time, although I don't think that the reliability of this pedal will be a concern.

Customer Support : 10
Rhys Lapido is a quality person who puts out a quality product.

Even though we are half-a-world away, I was given periodic updates while MY Pride and Joy was being built as well as the shipment tracking number when I requested it.

Rhys responds to my emails promptly and I'm convinced that he stands behind his product and name and will do so if I ever need a repair or support.

Overall Rating : 10
This is a very adaptable pedal for a broad range of musical styles.

Overall, I am going to rate the Pride and Joy a 10. If it were stolen I'd get another- there isn't a bad sound in it.

The funny thing about this whole coming together between me and the Pride and Joy is that I wasn't even looking for an overdrive pedal at the time. It was by good chance that I stumbled upon the deltajetblues.com site that day-I don't even recall what I was browsing for at the time.

But the more I read the testimonials from players that use this pedal, the more I began to fantisize about the type of musical relationship I could forge with the Pride and Joy.

I can't say anything more that what I have.

Rhys is doing us guitarists right here though, folks. Check him out!

If it was a computer periphal it would be "Plug-and-Play".... 3 knobs, how easy can it be! Minimal tweaking required, about 10 minutes of experimenting to sort out where to set them to achieve the TONE I want/like.

Sound Quality : 10
I mainly use a 2004 USA standard strat through a Fender De-Ville (or a Blues Deluxe if space is at a premium), with a trio of EH pedals, Holy Grail, Small Clone & Small Stone. The P&J has now made the De-Ville drive/more drive/even more drive footswitch obsolete as it delivers a whole range of break-up/over-drive/distortion with total volume control. I was always faffing about with the channel volume, master volume & drive control to try and get a balance and always hitting the wrong foot-switch and blowing out the venue windows and eardrums of the poor punters! It has a true by-pass and doesn't affect/alter the sound of my set-up. It is totally silent, no hum, buzz, hiss, etc. My favourite combination at the moment is the P&J with the Small Stone set at a slow sweep with max colour.. it makes me shiver!

Reliability : 10
Had the P&J 2-3 months now, gigged it 6 times, rehearsed with it every week and it's never missed a beat, and to say it's robust is am understatement! If the hand-brake on the van doesn't work, I'm sure you could put the P&J under a wheel to stop it rolling down a hill, it's that strong!

Customer Support : 10
Not had to call on Rhys for any help, but found him very informative during the contruction process and he kept me informed at every stage.

I love the P&J and if it were stolen or run over by a tank, I WOULD replace it! I've been playing since the early 70's and at some time or other owned/used virtually every distortion/muff/over-drive pedal out there, I've had Vox, Park, Hiwatt, Orange, Marshall, (original) Peavey, etc amps and still own a 1965 Black-face Super-Reverb along with the De-Ville and Blues Deluxe, I've got a 1979 Gibson LP Black Beauty and a Gibson J150 for finger-picking. I'm in a 3 piece band now purely for fun, and play everything from 50's R&R to more modern material and the P&J complements my style perfectly. If you know the EH pedals I play you will see a common theme with the P&J, minimal knobs, switches, buttons and other gizmos to distract you from getting the best sounds from them!

Its an overdrive, how hard can it be? The LED a lot of people asked for is present, to be honest if you can't tell its switched on then your deaf or you have some really top notch overdrive in your signal path anyway.

Sound Quality : 10
I have modest kit and to be honest the P&J is probably overkill. But it does bring out the best in my Vox AD and Aria Pro. So if you want to get the best overdrive whatever the kit, or maybe your hoping to get good enough to justify something a little better later on then the P&J represents a good investment.

Reliability : 9
I dont gig, (sorry I'm just not that good), - but no problems, its pretty solid with a nice finish to the box. I cant see any obvios design issues. I'll give it a 9 but I have no expereince of gigging. IMHO with normal use this thing wont break.

Customer Support : 10
Rhys is a good egg - he really cares about his customers and seems to want to be sure they are happy. He even took the trouble of signing mine and marking it as part of a very small batch. I am confident that if I had a problem Rhys would be keen to sort it out.

Overall Rating : 10
I enjoy blues and rock - so an overdrive was high on my list. This one seems to be a cracker, I can?t compare it with other analog units other than a few checks in shops etc. but it blows all the digital stuff I've used out the water.

Its kind of expensive compared to something I know I could re-sell (TS), but I have no intention of parting with this and if Rhys keeps this up, I reckon this will be a collectors item in 20 years :-)

I have to say its driving me on to try that little bit harder because when I get it right the sound is a lot closer to the ideal.
As a result, I enjoy my playing more and so I think I actually play a little better.

I cant think of anything else at this price that would give me that, so what more could I ask for?

Like has been said before there are only three knobs - you really can't go wrong, even if you were blindfolded and randomly turned each knob the thing would sound great. I think these must come with an LED as standard now as I didn't specify for it (but did want it) and it came with one.

Sound Quality : 10
I don't what to say that hasn't already been said, but this thing sounds incredible. I'm using it with a Fender '59 RI Bassman (on volume 3 and with this box it's better than the sound I get at 7) and a Gibbo LP Classic with Wagner Crossroad Pickups, even with this setup I can closely enough imitate the likes of SRV or Gallagher. Mind-blowing in one (or two hyphonated) word(s).

Reliability : 10
It would seem these now come in a diecast box instead of the previous folded tin - these aren't going to move when you step on it. I do have reservations about the finish print on the top - looks like it could come off but only if you were trying pretty hard. I have only had it for a day so can't comment on longterm durabiity but in that time I've taken it apart and even jumped on it and there isn't anything I can see that will fail.

Customer Support : 10
I ordered this through eBay and the transaction was smooth. There was a small wait due to parts availability but not too long considering it's hand made. Rhys kept informed all the way through the process and answered my questions, very helpful and kind.

Overall Rating : 10
Definately worth the small wait. Whatever your style of music (although it's fort? is probably in the Blues/Classic Rock realm) this thing will do wonders for your sound, you owe it too yourself to get one!

Piece of cake. Even comes with some instructions on how to get the SRV sound but you don't need them. Mine came standard with an LED unlike some of the previous reviewers.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound is excellent. You can get that SRV sound with ease but you can also use this unit as the basis for your own sound. Very smooth. No noise from this unit at all. In terms of sound quality this lives up to the hype on the web site. I can still here my guitars tone shine through

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank. Solid diecast aluminium box. I have used this solidly now for 3 months and it hasn't mised a beat.

I bought it online and waited while it was built. Good communication from Rhys all the way. It came with a lifetime warranty and I look after my gear and don't expect any problems.

Overall Rating : 10
I play blues clasic rock a bit of everything really. I have been playing for 30 years. I have a couple of strats lots of pedals and bits and pieces collected over the years. This is one of the best ever and it has become my most used pedal. I took a risk buying it on sound samples alone but I'm glad I did. If it was stolen I'd email Rhys for another without thinking twice about it. If your looking for a great overdrive do yourself a favour and invest in this one. You'll love it

So easy to use just like the Ibanez Tube Screamer, just 3 dials, overdrive, tone and level. You get a simple single page sheet on how to operate and basic setting for SRV 'tone' to get you going.

Sound Quality : 10
Uded thru my Marshall valvestate amp on normal chanel 'clean' setting
when kicked in on the recommended settings it is instantly recognisable
as a Tube Screamer effect but seems richer somehow. Sounds just like SRV
at any amp setting, good for those lower level outings where you can't turn you amp right up.

Reliability : 10
Have just got it this week so reliability is untested but I've had a good
look around inside and being in a metal case I don't forsee any probs. A full guarantee is offered anyway.

All e-mails during the construction period (all handbuilt to order) were
responded to quickly. Seems a solid guy to deal with.

Great for those into blues like SRV, Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower & KWS
and any others in that area for all degrees of mild to max overdriven
valve sounds. smooth creamy to ear bursting bite.
Cant really fault it at all for the money knowing what people are paying for the TS 808's etc. It really is a 'find' in the market of pedals.

SRV all the way!! This is the perfect pedal for blues. It adds so much to the natural guitar sound without taking anything away. Can also get that clean but dirty hendrix tone - i.e. wind cries mary etc. No noise, and can make the crappiest amp (i.e. my fender princeton 112 plus!!!!) sound gorgeous.

Had no problems yet, solid build. Battery access could be a little easier than it is, but if you use a power supply that doesn't really matter!

I havny ggged with an electric band for a while but this will prompt me to do so. Ive been playing for 27 years mostly blues/jazz, SRV, Robben Ford . Always been looking for the tone, had an original tubescreamer but sold it years ago. Bought a ts9 and lent it out, never returned, then I saw an ad for this, Read the reviews and bought it.
Glad I did, it is very much an SRV tone but thats not a bad thing. It has the led on it which seemed to be a gripe on other reviews. It does help definitely.
I would surely replace this if it were nicked.

The only thing easier to use than this pedal would be one without knobs. Virtually all positions on all three knobs yield great, useable tones. However, for me, the sweet spot takes time to find just like with any instrument. I advise turning the lights off and using your ears to find the sound that you want, not your eyes. Speaking of eyes, the addition of a standard l.e.d. would be a good idea. (right now, it's only available as an upgrade) However, Rhys believes that the l.e.d. that is so common in modern pedals diminishes tone so I must respect his opinion.

Sound Quality : 10
My setup consists of a Vintage Fender '54 Strat with a '66 neck. I run this using George L's cables first into an Axess electronics BS-2 Buffer/Line splitter which runs my signal directly out and to my tuner simultaneously. The signal then runs through my pre-A/B/Y effects chain which, at this point, consists of just an Analog Man Juicer and the Pride and Joy. I then split my signal with a Lehle Dual A/B/Y box. Signal A goes through an Ibanez AD-80 Analog Delay then to my Vox AC-15. Signal B goes through a Boss RV-3 Digital Delay/Reverb and into my Dr. Z Carmen Ghia 1X12 Combo. In this setup, I use the Pride and Joy as a clean boost for more solo-oriented parts in my songs. I am not a Stevie Ray Vaughn want-to-be like this pedal seems to be geared for. I am more into Mark Knopfler's sound, hence the Juicer. However, this pedal is definitely the surest bet for achieving the SRV sound, if so desired. The only exception possibly being a real, vintage TS-808 which I have not heard in person and is definitely not worth the money people pay for them these days. ($200-$800) Absurd! Buy a Pride and Joy!! This pedal never fails to put a big grin on my face when I step on it. It is also dead quiet on the settings I keep it set to. (Drive all the way down with tone and level both at 12 0'clock. However, I am sure that with everything cranked, it would create the expected noise associated with a higher gain sound.

Reliability : No Opinion
I can't definitely say that this pedal is reliable considering that I just recently bought it. However, all the evidence suggests that this pedal will be right there with me my whole life with no issues. I certainly have been able to depend on it up to this point and I do play gigs without a backup. VERY well made.

Customer Support : 10
Mr. Rhys Ladipo perfectly mixes professionalism with personal attention in his customer service. He is always prompt in answering my slightly over frequent e-mails. I couldn't imagine anyone being more helpful and friendly without seeming psychotic. He truly seems like a genuinely cool, nice guy.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar for 15+ years and this is the first time I have been genuinely happy with an overdrive pedal. The P&J isn't just a piece of equipment or a material possesion, it is an extension of yourself, an instrument, a work of art. Rhys Ladipo is constantly improving his products through consistent tinkering and a great utilization of his technical expertise. I can tell that the next pedal he makes will be even better. It is rare these days to find people who risk making things the time-tested true way with imperfections and personality. If this were ever lost or stolen, after crying for a while, I would collect myself and buy a new one. In short, like I said earlier, buy a Pride and Joy! Thanks for taking the time to read this. See ya.

It has 3 knobs : overdrive, tone and level ... just like the ts-808.
It is a ts-808 clone and reproduces the tones of a full-original, vintage ts-808 wonderfully and with ease.
The knobs are very responsive and you get a very usable sound on every setting. This "thang" does NOT have bad sounds in it.

I only wish it had a LED so I could see wether it is turned on or off.

Sound Quality : 10
That's what it's all about ...

I'm a big SRV and blues fan, playing the six-string for 16 years now, and when I found the "Pride & Joy" pedal on the internet, and after reading all the fantastic reviews on it, I know somehow this would be "it".

I tried out what everybody knows about "how to get that SRV tone" : strats, ts-9's, ts-808's, ts-808 re-issues, Keeley mods, brown mods, ... but none of them really satisfied my quest for the so well-known, magical SRV tone. That was until yesterday evening ...

When I placed the P&J between my 1972 strat and my 1967 Super Reverb and "stepped on my friend" .... WHAM .... SRV speaking ! No doubt, this was THE SRV tone in all its glory. Played along with some SRV tracks ... NO difference. Asked my wife if she could hear any difference ... NO difference. Asked a friend if he could hear any difference ... NO difference and he's also wanting to buy one ... ;-)
I just couldn't believe my ears ...

Please forget about those way too expensive, unreliable, vintage ts-808's ... most of the time they are not fully original or the switch is not working properly or ... or ... or ...

If you're looking for that SRV tone (and who isn't ?) as a solid base for your own sound, this pedal is a must-have at a more than reasonable price (same price as a new ts-9 I think).

If Stevie Ray could only give you one advice on how to get his tone, I think he would tell you to buy the P&J !

I think the main differences between the P&J and the ts-808 / ts-9 are :

- overdrive is much "smoother" and "rawer" : remains defined, never becomes 'muddy' and breaks up perfectly
- basses are fuller (more Balls !) but still remain clear and defined
- tone is more responsive and doesn't become harsh, adds sweetness

Reliability : No Opinion
Only had it one day so I can't tell but Rhys is a very friendly man, gives you constant feedback and answers all your questions asap.
The P&J comes with a 1 year-warranty. I don't expect any trouble with it, it looks well-built and reliable.

Customer Support : 10
As I said, Rhys i a very friendly guy and keeps you informed very well during the build process. He also installed all the last 'upgrades' in my P&J and added a instruction paper with the pedal.

Everybody's happy with the P&J, and I'm sure Rhys will keep it that way ...

He's incredibly kind and helpful ;-)

Overall Rating : 10
I'm mostly into blues/rock and playing for 16 years now. Always been fascinated by SRV and Jimi but I have many other names in my blues collection too (Walter Trout, Popa Chubby, Buddy Guy, Kenny W. Shepherd, Rory Gallagher, Jonny Lang, Albert King, Johnny Winter, ...) .

I mostly use vintage Fender strats and vintage Fender amps when playing blues.

I'm NOT a SRV clone, but I think his tone would be a really good starting-off point for my own tone. I'm aware nobody will ever sound 100% like SRV because he made his tone for 90% with his fingers.
Anyhow, if you don't have the funds to buy all the Dumbles, Fenders, Marshalls and 60's strats Stevie owned, but still want to experience his tone, the P&J pedal will get you very close at a very reasonable price.

The P&J was a big leap forward in my quest for Stevie's tone, in fact I think my quest for this tone has finally ended. I won't get closer than I am now I guess ...

I want to thank Rhys Ladipo personally a million times for his incredible service. Keep up the good work Rhys , you're a genius ...
I'm selling my ts-808 immediately ...

Greetz from Belgium !

Please feel free to ask me any questions about the P&J.

This pedal does everything you ever wish an overdrive pedal to do. I was expecting alot from it, and it beat those expectetions. I have had so many compliments on this pedal. I took it to a guitar store with me while searching for a custom shop strat and the owner was in awe over the tone this thing produces. If you want to sound like SRV or Hendrix this thing creates those tones beautifully. It does not change the tone of your guitar or cover up the tone you already have. I play a fender custom shop 1960 NOS stratocaster and a 52 reissue tele through a fender deluxe. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!I cried when i plugged into this pedal and then played non stop for hours.

I'm using a Fender Jap Strat with Kent Armstrong single coils with the effects chain as: Vox Wah, P&J, Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe, straight into a Carvin Nomad 1x12 55w all valve combo. It is the purest sound you could possibly get of the SRV tone. It has the attack, warmth I always wanted out of a pedal.

I would definately depend on this for gigs of any size. Although it's always wise to have a backup, i do take my Jacques Fuse Blower just for backup only! I use the P&J everytime.

I play in a in-your-face type of style, I attack the guitar as hard as I can and with that, the P&J is a perfect match for me. I've been playing since I was 11, I'm now 24 and always searched for 'that' sound in my head. Although everyone's taste is different, I go for the raunchy, aggresive type of blues, like SRV, Kenny Wayne, etc. I own various other effects units and different guitars, but for me, a strat, P&J, and a valve amp is the way to go. I did compare this to the ibanez TS808, TS9, TS10 and the P&J just kicked it's ass without sweat. Awesome tone! I've been unhappy with my sound for quite a while now and my sound has held me back from letting rip and finding that 'hair standing on the back of your neck' type of feel with a band. But believe me, I have it now in the bag with the P&J, buy one know, you won't be disapointed.

Very easy. It's got controls for overdrive, level & tone. You just fiddle with the knobs(ooer!) to get the tone you want. And believe me, if it's quality tone you want - this pedal's got it.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm currently using my '94 Fender Stratocaster through a Fender Frontman amp. The Strat's been upgraded with Lace Sensor Custom Shop Ultra Hot Gold Pickups, its otherwise completely stock. As promised, this pedal can give you the tones of Jimi, Stevie Ray and loads of others - in fact, pretty much any kind of "classic" overdriven tones. It breaks up just right and is easily controllable via the guitar's volume knob. Now don't get me wrong - if it's modern hi-gain characterless noise you're after, you shouldn't buy this pedal, basically it would be wasted on you! But if you have an ear for quality tone and like to actually hear what your fingers are saying, then it doesn't get much better than this (I actually prefer it to an early 80's TS9 I've played through).

Reliability : 9
I haven't had the pedal long, so I can't really comment, but being a hand made unit it certainly appears solid enough and all components (input/ouput jacks, footswitch etc.) feel solid enough. I would be comfortable using it on a gig wothout a backup, but if it did break I'd then be totally lost without it.

Customer Support : 10
Rhys Ladipo is a gentleman through and through. All my questions were answered quickly and curteously, and I was kept up to date with regards to the pedal's construction progress. I know Harmony Central don't generally like glowing reviews, but honestly, the pedal and the service received are very, very good. If they weren't, then quite simply I wouldn't be writing this.
This P&J is the current upgrade, and if anything were to go wrong I'm 100% confident that Rhys would sort it out - no probs.

Overall Rating : 9
I play everything really, from classic rock, rock, metal, jazz & blues. I've been playing now for nearly 12 years, and have struggled to get a really usable tone out of the myriad of effects I've owned. Simply put, this pedal gives me a rich, controllable overdriven tone that lets people actually hear what I'm playing. My Strat now sounds like what an overdriven Strat tone should be! This pedal's isn't for generating huge gain - if I want that I use my Zoom multi effect sustem - But for the sound I want, I believe its the cream of the crop. I have loads of other pedals, TS9's etc., but there's something a little bit special about this pedal that just does "it" for me. If it were stolen I would have to buy another one - it really is that good - the only thing I waish it had is a padlock and chain so I could chain it to the floor, then no-one's gonna steal it!! My advice? If you want quality overdriven tone that makes even a little tranny amp sound like a hard driven classic valve amp, then this is the pedal. I know it seems expensive, so I haven't given it a 10 (if the pedal was for free I'd give it a 10, but things like that just don't happen, do they?!), but it is hand made and a little bit different, so in my opinion worth the extra expense. As I've already said, don't get it if its distortion and high gain you're after - it isn't what this pedal's about. But if you really care about what you and your music sound like, The P&J is a really hard act to beat.

Running into a Peavey JSX and a Marshall SLP with a Strat and a Hartfield with H-S-H set-up. The Pride and Joy is very quiet evn on the highest settings. The effect is a little "one diminsional" to me...I wish it was a little more "open" sounding.
I does the SRV-Hendrix thing very well...especially on a Strat.
Very "warm" sound...no brittle high end here...even through the JSX...the tone remains nice and "round." It's the best sounding 808 clone I have ever heard.

Reliability : 9
It seems well made...a little more light-weight as far as the box is concerned. Switches seem sturdy...time will tell. It's a cool looking piece.

Rhys goes way out of his way to make sure you are satisfied. He's one of the best guys out there...Each unit is made by hand and there is a significate waiting period...but the "Pride and Joy" is well worth the wait.

Ease of Use : 10
For ease of use the P&J is very simple to use, based on the TS808 tube screamer it has three pots (overdrive, tone and level) and a 9 volt DC power supply. It can also run on a 9 volt battery which situated inside the pedal, just remove four grub screws for access! Getting a good sound out of this pedal is simple. I use the overdrive between 7 and 8, and the tone pot is situated about half way and I push the level right up to get that classic tube screamer! This pedal has so many varied sounds that most guitarists will find a sound to suit them with great ease.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Stratocaster as my main guitar but I also use a Telecaster and a Les Paul. The P & J doesn't produce that much background noise, even when the over drive and levels are cranked right up! The effect has a strong smooth tone when using it for chord work giving plenty of punch and definition, and the lead work gives you plenty of drive and attack with loads of sustain when you dig in! Although I use a mesa boogie dual rectifier combo which is a great versatile amp, using the clean channel with the 6L6's (giving that glassy fender sound) the P&J really draws out the tone. However, when moving into lead work I add some vintage gain to the second channel to milk the sustain out of those notes with ease! Even if you?re just ripping into some blues and you want that SRV sound it?s here in abundance! So all in all the P&J on its own or in backed up with chorus / comp the sound cuts right through the mix.

Reliability : 10
So far the pedal has proved to be very dependable. I haven't had cause to use a backup for gigs. All of the components used in the construction of this pedal are top quality so in terms of reliability you'd expect to be able to use it without backup.

Customer Support : 10
Rhys Ladipo is a very friendly guy, providing first class customer support. No query is too large or too small and most of the time you'll find
