Very easy to get a good tone. I'm not a huge fan of boxes providing distortion, I like tube amp distorion, but this is really easy to dial in and sounds great. The settings in the manual didn't sound so great to me, but was a jumping off point to tweak. Level, hi, low, mid. the gain is preset. I max it out anyway so good ridance!

My main rig is a Peavey JSX head through a Marshall 2x12 cab. I bought this to use with my Peavey Wiggy. It did the trick, just what I needed it to. Provide heavey heavey distortion. It is quiet to me. I run a myriad of guitars through it with hot and medium output pickups. My Frankenstrat w/ EVH '78 pickup, Ace Frehley Les Paul w/ Dimarzio super distorions, Jimmy Page Les Paul, etc. All sound great with this box. The distortion is preset, but you can alter it by rolling down your volume knob on your guitar. Also the eq on the pedal really changes the tone. It provides

I traded email with Mike, he was fast to answer all my questions. That is an A+ these days.

I play '70s stadium rock, ie KISS, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, etc and more current heavey stuff ie BLS/Zakk Wylde, Rob Zombie, Trivium etc and this skews more towards the later. I've been playing for 20 years and have owned everything out there. I've always gotten my gain from my 5150 or JSX but needed something to push my Wiggy over the edge and this did it. The boss metal zone was ok, but I hated the mid frequeny control. It jacks up the tone too much to me, always moving it. This pedal has the same gain but without that control but as much or more control with the simple eq on it.

Great sound no matter what setting do you use. Level/Low/Mid/High knobs. Pure distortion, you can use the volumen control in your guitar to dial less distortion.

Sound Quality : 10
A heavy metal sound all the way with this pedal. I used the effect with a chorus and octavia (HBE UFO in moderm mode) pedal and it is ok, the distortion overshadows any effect before and after. A very quite effect by itself.

Reliability : 2
Let me tell you that is not a true bypass, and it uses the same switch as the BOSS pedals. Although BOSS is a much better construccion. all the potemtiometer controls are soldered to the component board, very cheap made pedal. BOUTIQUE, it is not. Not analog either.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 2
I play rock and now getting into heavy metal, but I will try other distortion pedals because this one feels very un-reliable, sort of a wanna be BOSS effect. I opened it up and it looks like a chinese made pedal. Bad toy like from China.

This is a no brainer. everyone can tweak those 4 knobs (level, low, mid, high).

Very heavy, instant Pantera!

Reliability : 8
Built like a tank. BUT it is not true bypass. more on that below.

Customer Support : 1
I emailed Landmine asking if it is true bypass. Mike(I'm assuming he's the builder) replied YES. However when I got it, the first thing I did was play through it unpowered. Guess what, there's no sound. I didn't even need to open it up to know it is NOT TRUE BYPASS. I have no idea why he need to lie. so much for a "boutique" pedal. now I wonder if it's "100% Analog"...

Overall Rating : 7
Despite the builder's dishonesty, it is a great pedal for all your heavy metal needs.

This is an interesting pedal. It runs the range from heavy to ultra-heavy. You will not be using it for blues. The manual is good but I felt there wasn't enough sample settings. I actually got some more ideas for settings by watching Youtube demos of the pedal. I found that fiddling with the settings really opened up some interesting sounds that weren't even remotely referenced in the manual....

Sound Quality : 9
The pedal is VERY heavy sounding... I feel that it really nails the early Van Halen sound well.... Pantera is also able to be emulated with this pedal... The pedal is quite noisey when "idling" - when you are not playing and just have it plugged in and ready to go. Watch the Youtube vids and you can see the demo guys turning their volume controls down after they play there licks. This pedal kinda screams "keep on playing, and if you stop, you'll hear about it"!!! I am sure a noise gate would fix thing up... The effects are good... low, mids and highs... they have a very wide range and, judging by the bass sound this thing pumped through my Line6 Spider 30 watt, open backed practice amp... it would knock your head off played through a closed back 4X12 cabinet. In short, this pedal does what it is designed for...

Reliability : 9
Looks well built... It is made in Canada so I assume no "low-bidder" outsourcing. I bought it mainly for recording so no back-up required... Time will tell on the reliability front but I searched the web pretty thouroughly and found no issues. It has been around for a few years and so I am sure any concerns would have been addressed by the manufacturer.

Awesome, I emailed the company and got a personalized response. The dealer was fantastic too. (1st Star Music in Haney, BC, Canada)

I play all styles of music but bought this pedal for recording - it has a separate "mix" output. This pedal is ideal for heavy power chord playing and when you want/need an "infinite" sustain lead sound. I have been playing for about 30 years - ouch!!! I also own a Boss Metal Zone, a Proco Turborat, a Sansamp Classic and a Line6 Pod. Of cours I also own several amps but feel the aformentioned gear is closer in comparison to the Landmine. To my ear, it has more gain than either the Boss Metal Zone or the Turborat... I find the Turborat great for blues, jazz and chords that I want just a little "dirt" on. The Boss is the most wide ranging sonicaly.. This is primarily because of its more extensive and adjustable controls. You can get from blues to ear-drum peircing buzz/fuzz with it, but it is quiet. The Pod.... read the HC reviews. The Landmine is "warmer" sounding and less "artificial" sounding than the Boss, to my ear it sounds more like a multi-staged cascading gain tube pre-amp.... This is a boutique pedal for those about to rock/shred at high gain settings. Does it help me make music? To me, all pedals have their place, all can be used in mixes that suit them, all pedals bring out different inspirational sounds and make you play in a different way. This pedal is STUNNING for haromonics, the best I have ever played. Pinch/pick harmonics are easy to get and are very musical with it... The Landmine does its job....

really easy to get the sound you want. You will not need any manuals which can be so frigen confusing

Sound Quality : 10
This kicks, I bought it because I wanted a really heavy peddle to get the rhoads sound and a good VH sound. It totally delivered. Spot on. I would recommend a tube screamer to go with it. It warms up the sound and fattens it up. I am totally satified.

Reliability : 9
This thing will not break. only thing that worries me is the switching. I have had some bad expirences before.

n/a never dealt with them

Its expensive but everyone knows peddles are so much better than processors if you have the cash. This one will make you wanna rock out all night. My friends thought I had Ozzy on until they came down and saw me playin. buy it. I am a tough critic and its a thumbs up.

looks like a landmine , can survive an explosion lol

never dealt with hope not too

Its my favorite distortion pedal out the ones I mentioned , it sounds great on the clean channel of my Marshall JVM.
I like to have an option of a different gain tone on my amp besides the great tones of the JVM which BTW is a awsum amp .
The things I really like its not digital sounding and the lead tones arent high and harsh .Very cool for solid heavy riffing and solos

This has got to be the easiest pedal I have ever used. Just plug in, whack that E5, and listen to the sustain. Yikes!! I did not have to set anything, it sounded great already.

I own a guitar shop in Port Hope Ontario, Canada. I ordered one because of the article in Guitar Player. This thing is the holy grail of distortion pedals. Forget Metal Zone, this pedal has guts. Sorry Boss, but yours is tinny compared to this. Definately not designed for blues or classic rock, but if you are looking for the ultimate metal sound, this is it. Incredible bass, gobs of sustain and every tweak gives a whole new sound.

Pick it up. WOW. Damn thing is heavy. I know everyone say's it but here goes: IT'S BUILT LIKE A FLIPPIN TANK!!!!!

Don't know. Haven't dealt with 'em. Supplier is great though (Charlie Argall)

I have been teaching professionally for 13 years. I'm an old dude who still loves to shread sometimes. I play all styles (as just about any teacher does) but to play that style, man, you gotta have that sound. This baby will do it. Look no more, your search is over.

Very easy to get good sound, very straight forward. idk about editing patches. The manual is very straight forward, there arent any hidden keys to get good sound.

I use a B.C. Rich Warlock through a Randall 20 watt camo combo, soon to get a Randall 120 watt. The pedal is just too good. It is too heavy and too much for my little 20 watt practice amp at high tones. But i know it will work well through a half-stack. It is realy amazing, but never run it with another distortion pedal at the same time, its really messed up. Using it with a Wah-Wah is really fun, and it works well with all my effects. I like to get sounds of Slipknot mosly, Panter, Slayer, SOAD, and even Black Sabbath, the pedal is almost too heavy for that. I use a Fab Chorus with the pedal, and it works great, especially if you want that Nirvana sound. just turn the low down. also, i use an atomic fet boy with it, a boost pedal, but it doesnt make too much a difference, the pedal is already great. The fet boy just makes it have more cut.

Reliability : 10
Very depedable, as soon as you hit the pedal, the sound is up and running, no delay or anything. I would definately use it in a gig, already have, nothing else, no mixers, didnt need em.

I havent got a chance to use their customer support, never had to, and i dont think i'll have to.

I play Metal, straight metal, but for a little lighter, i was even able to get Van Halen tone, and some Pearl Jam tone. I've been playing for a little over a year now. I own a Johnson Dreadnought acoustic also. If it was stolen, i'd kill who stole it, besides my guitar and my amp, this is my favorite part of my setup. I love how heavy it is without being too muddy. What do i hate? hmm, i would have to say that i hate the part that they are the price that they are, but i understand, its just worth it. My favorite feature is how responsive each control is, move it a bit, and you get a drastic change. I like to compare it to a Boss MT-2, it just blows that away, The Digitech Death Metal isa formidable oponent, but the Low while still maintaining clarity, and the cut is just better, plus it looks better. I wish it came with a power supply. It definately helps me make music, i used to be straight metal, nothing else, but when first useing a Wah-Wah, i started to like the funk stuff, then i started liking ICP and incorporating that in, this helped me to make my stuff as dark or light as i want.

This pedal is extremely user friendly. It only has 4 knobs(level, high, low, mids). The manual that came with the pedal was brief and helpful. The sample settings give up a pretty good idea of what the pedal can do.

My setup is a jackson-randy rhoades model, kustom quad 100 DFX, Zoom GFX-8 processor, Crybaby 535Q Wah, and landmine ld-1 distortion. For years, I searched for the perfect distortion and the landmine is it. The landmine can reproduce the heavy distortion of metal and grunge rock.(metallica, pantera, nirvana, ozzy, stp, slayer, and many more)

Reliability : 10
I have only had mine a few wks. but the pedal is solid metal. It seems like it should last for a while.

I haven't had to deal with the company yet

If you are into heavy music, this is the distortion for you. This pedal not only gives you a thick rhythm distortion but also a great lead sound. This is by far the best distortion, I have ever heard.

Very easy to use. The distortion is always on. You control the eq on it. It is like a glorified Big Muff but with a death metal tone attached to it. Comes with landmine sticker and user manual. The manual has 4 pre-sets on it and gives a pretty good overview of what it can do.

Sound Quality : 9
It is a heavy distortion pedal. The best settings for me ( I play metal ) are with the low at about 4 o'clock and the mid at about 9 o'clock and the high at about 2 o'clock. I also use the mix out instead of the actual out. It has a lower output and I can control my sound better. I love this option. The dealer told me that I could actually use both outs into two separate amps or use the mix out when I record as a direct out. The Landmine web site has sound samples so you can hear for yourself. I use an Esp Viper 2005 with a Marshall Valvestate 100 Head and 4x12 Cab.

Reliability : No Opinion
The pedal is built out of heavy steel. The on off button is solid steel. I actually took it apart and it is built like a rock. No problems so far. I would have no problem using it without a backup. I have only had it for 2 weeks but so far, real good, so I dont know about long term abuse.

Customer Support : 10
I called the company about getting different sounds and they were very helpful. They told me about using the mix out in different ways and how to get their desired sounds, and how to match it with my amp. They know their stuff.

Overall Rating : 10
I play metal. It is a great sounding distortion pedal. It is analog and alot different than my other distortion pedals. I run it with a Boss NS Noise Suppressor for that extra gated death metal sound. I have been playing for 5 years. I love the low end. My fave feature is the mix out and the normal out. You can do alot with these two different tones. I hope they come out with different pedals, as the distortion is the only thing they offer. It is the heaviest pedal ever, both in weight and sound.
