Very straightforward to use, presets are great and easy to edit, just a couple of knobs, their was no manual with mine, but I dont need it, I guess you would like to have one if you were edting via midi but I dont so no problem there, mine is software version 1.0

Sound Quality : 9
I use this for recording via a mixer, its a good all rounder, there are other units that I would rather use for vocal reverbs, but that is just my personal taste, I tend to use it for instruments most of the time, although its good for any source really. It can be noisy if you aren't careful about setting up the levels, and it can overload easily, but providing you take care in setting up, these things are not a problem. All in all, lexicon have chosen good algorithms here.

Reliability : 10
Very well built, very reliable.

UK support very efficient, I live near Stirling Audio so it was very convenient when I lost my power supply and had to get another one.

I am involved in experimental/jazz/landscapes, works well in this context. I have been playing for 35 years, and am mainly a keyboard player, but engineering is rapidly taking over, and its good to know that I can always rely on the LXP1 for good quality cost effective reverb. If it were stolen I would buy another immediately, its just cool, no competition really. I find it very inspiring to work with, because it is so easy to get a great sound it lets you get on with the music instead of spending ages struggling with it. I would like to take this opportunity to say something about the current state of the equipment industry. People always want the cheapest deal, most bang for the buck, and manufacturers try give as much as possible for the cheapest price, but what is happening is that to do this they have to cut corners, so you end up with products that to be frank, are just not worth having, OK they are cheap, but you get what you pay for in this world. In the late 1980s when the LXP1 was released it was nearly #500 here in the UK, a lot of money, but to get the same quality from anew unit today, you are looking at spending over a #1,000, So #100-150 for an LXP1 is an attractive proposition rather that spending you money on one of todays cheap Lexicon reverbs, I have tried them, and believe me, they do not hold a candle to the LXP1, I think lexicon have lost their way in trying to keep up with the budget effects market, they are rapidly losing their reputation here in the UK as a no compromise manufacturer of high end products, even the PCM80 does not sound as good as the older PCM70! secondhand PCM 70s sell for more than secondhand PCM80s. One request to Lexicon, please dont "improve" things anymore, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

This unit is not any challenge to communicate with, its simple design makes no demand i think.

..of course the midi communication looks not that straight foreward according to the manual, havent tried that yet. Some of the this unit parameters can only be reached by midi, but havent really urged for it yet. we must also think about the age of the design.

Ok sirs, I have used this box in my rack for some years, in my duo for small gigs, its main task has been to do vocal reverb, and some guitar reverb. It has been my main reverb unit and used with my Mackie 1202VLZ mixer.

And now to the point, the quality of sound must be the ear that hears i think, it sound soft, varm, sweet, but maybe not that sophisticated. Keep in mind this is an old design when I say its a little noisy, have not been any problem at stage but never used it for studio purposes.

I feel a need to use this unit more for instruments and replace it as a vocal reverb, mainly because its bandwith (up tp 13/14 Khz) is sounding dark in my ears. I usually struggle with it to sound bright enough, but it has also have that personality og warm sweet sound that creates a nice atmosphere in the public (thats my believe :).

Reliability : 10
No problems here

This unit went out of production few years ago, if it suits your needs it may be the best choice for you. I believe this unit was priced relative high compared to reverb machines today, (i bought it new).

LXP-1 justifies the Lexicon quality. The unit is very easy to use if you need only two parameters per effect (from the front panel). All of the 16 preset effects can be used immediately (finally an effects processor that has a great sound even without preprogramming... I also own Zoom 1201 and Yamaha EMP-100). But if you want to go deep into it, there's a bunch of parameters to tweak with sysex. With a sysex editor everything is smooth. The manual is very good and detailed, every parameter is clearly defined.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this unit as my main (aux) reverb on my Mackie CR-1604 for synths and drum machines. Noise levels are very very very low. The effects sound just great, can't say no more. If you need great reverb and also chorus and delay, this is the machine for you. Reverbs are full and clear, rich and deep. You get what you pay. And lots of newer multieffects processors with 44.1kHz sampling rate and I don't know what more fancy stuff can only hide in 32kHz LXP-1's shadow. I love it.

Reliability : 10
It's very robust and tough looking half rack box. Mine is bought second hand and almost mint. Lexicon owners have a tendency to really look after their boxes...

Beats me.

I know I could get this box cheaper, but the sound quality is so good that I simply forgot those 600 DEM. It was one of my greatest buys. Look around and you'll find some cheaper. But in my country prices for the LXP-1 are around that mark. I'd get one more if I'd seen it.
