"Plug it in and go" as they say. Its actually not very hard to use at all. Ive read a few reviews regarding Lexicon units being somewhat difficult to program but the LXP-5 in particular was very easy to use. Plenty of presets to choose from and youre almost bound to find a preset perfectly matched to meet your needs.

It is true that to implement certain aspects of the unit (midi) you would definitely be lost without a manual, but fortunately Lexicon makes these available for download on their website.

Sound Quality : 9
Overall, the sound quality is mesmerizing. The reverb and delays are some of the best Ive ever heard. I recently sold this unit to be replaced with a Roland SRV-3030. I had originally bought the LXP-5 used for about $100 while the Roland unit brand new set me back almost $300. They are both completely different units, but in terms of cost/quality ratio, the LXP-5 wins hands down. You just cant beat the sheer rich full bodied sound that it creates. I find that the Roland SRV-3030 tends to sound fairly unconvincing at times and definitely brings that characteristic "metallic" sound that is unflattering with many digital effects unit in the market today. My only complaint with the LXP-5 was that the unit was slightly noisy, something that could get quite annoying at times. But apart from this, the unit is superb, especially for the price you can get a used one today.Im still kicking myself for selling it.

Reliability : 10
I bought mine used and had no problems. I dont play live and only do studio work, so Im not sure if I would recommend using it on a gig without a backup.

Customer Support : 10
Never had to deal with them, although they get a "10" for making owners manuals and related information of their products available on through their website.

Overall Rating : 10
Im heavy into ambient and abstract sounds. The LXP-5 is a blessing for both. It adds incredible warmth and fullness to anything that runs through it and you could lose yourself just listening to how amazing this little unit sounds. I have been seriously debating buying another, but may hold off to save for a higher end Lexicon effects unit. Still, for the price and overall quality, the LXP-5 is the shit.

Well, it's not that hard really. It has a adjust knob with "the-most-likely-parameter-to-be-adjusted-in-this-algorithm", such as reverblenght, pitch etc.etc And then there's the MRC and you can hook it up to your computer. Who wants to dig deep into the algorithms when they sound superb as they are, really?

Sound Quality : 10
I have several high-end reverbs, such as Dynacord DRP20, Lexicon 200, Sony R7 and a few more. The LXP5 (and LXP1) always find their place in the mix. It's a mainstay in my studio. I use it a lot for longer reverbs.

Reliability : 10
Never had any trouble with it and it's got some 13-14 years on its neck.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Well, it never broke down on me so I dunno.....

Overall Rating : 10
The LXP5 is a fantastic unit. I prefer it to a lot of other reverbs. The only thing competing with a Lexicon is another Lexicon'.

The presets are very good, just dial in the blend of straight tone. Editing is pretty easy, but I almost never edit. The manual is ok.

Sound Quality : 9
I use this with all of my amps,(Dr-z,marshall,fender,tophat,mesa) Guitars used with it are PRS,GIBSON FENDER,DON GROSH. Noise level is very low. I use the reverb 98% of the time, I prefer my Chandler delay, I prefer my stomp boxes for chorus, The pitchshifting is very good but I almost never use it.

Reliability : 10
I bought this new five or six years ago and it has been flawless. I use this every week three to four days a week. I don't have a back-up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never needed to deal with the co. No upgrades, No repairs needed.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all types of music. This is an excellent match. I have been playing 27 years. If it were lost or stolen I would buy another.I think the reverb is the best feature never sounds digital,(think one of the best guitar sounds you ever heard)Half rack size is very nice too.

You have to friggle some knobs and you get very quick the preset sounds wich can by modified easy by the adjust knob. That works really fine !
Everything else is cryptic ( editing, storing, lfo parameters, midi setup, sys-ex is the most complicated i every step on in my life, even harder then unix programming ;-)
The MCR is a must have with this unit !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sound Quality : 10
The sound quality is unbeliveable and miracoulus !
I mean 32khz sampling freq and 14 bit tech specs in conjunction
with this enormous warm, shimmering, absolutly non-digital sound.
This unit is a teacher who rembers you everytime you use it :
DO NOT TRUST THE INDUSTRY TECH BLABLABLA - ONLY TRUST YOUR EARS !!!
And trust a wise programmer, bc this one was a genius !!!
I never PLAYED a better fx unit. I say played bc there are fx-machines with a sound wich is objectivly better ( less noisy, clearer, transparenter etc. ). But first you have to spend ten times more $ and second they don't give you that specially feeling some very strange art of interaction between player and machine. The first time i plugged my guitar directly in this unit and the lxp5 into an sovtek mig50 amp. I was noodeling, switching knobs three times, playing, switching one knob, playing, playing, playing .....
I was just with the music.....

Reliability : 9
I'm playing the lxp5 for 6 years now, never had a problem.
Three years ago it landet hard on the floor bc of an accident - two knobs were srewed but keep still there work - outstanding.
Only the separate voltage converter is lame.
I quickly changed it to big bufferd one - great sound improvement !

Customer Support : No Opinion
no expirience

I play lead-guitar in a cover bands and doing some private homestudio
recordings with the lxp5. It is my one and only effect-unit and i'm still happy with it !
You can't get any better under $1000 !

Ease of Use : 5
Low rating here because this thing is so damn cryptic. Even after reading the manual I was scratching my head a bit. I don't have an MRC and can't be bothered to get it working with Unisyn (though I probably could if I tried), so I'm only editing from the front panel. Without the manual and quick reference sheet, it would be all but impossible to figure out. Getting to individual parameters involves holding the learn button while turning the Select knob to the appropriate number, then using Adjust. Conversely, if you just tweak the Adjust knob without selecting an individual parameter, it tweaks a bunch of different parameters simultaneously. In spite of the lack of user-friendliness displayed here, I actually find the latter method inspiring in terms of the spontaneous/unpredictable (ie. fun) side of things...

Sound Quality : 9
I use it on sends/returns or directly patched on synths/samplers, depending on the situation. For the price, it's sound quality is just incredible. Apparently the sampling rate on it is 32Khz, but you'd never know it... the only downside is that the only available reverbs are in tandem with other FX in the "multi" bank of presets... then you get "delay", "pitch" and "chorus". The pitch-shifters on this thing sound stellar - in fact, probably the best ones I've heard this side of an Eventide or a higher-end Lexicon. They introduce a rather noticeable delay from the original signal, as a lot of pitch-shifters of it's time did, but not an issue if you're only using the wet signal in a non-live setting (as I am). I mention the pitch-shift mainly because it's what I use the most in this unit, but the rest of the FX sound great as well. No complaints at all in this department, especially for the price. Only reason it gets less than perfect is cos I know I could get better quality out of some higher end units - but also for a lot more money...

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had any problems, but I haven't gigged it either. It DID survive a Post Office delivery, though ;)

Customer Support : 9
Had a problem where I lost all wet signal output due to some tweak I made while trying to figure it out. E-mailed their tech support, and had an effective solution to the problem in my inbox within a day. Haven't dealt with them on repair issues - have heard horror stories about it, but haven't (touch wood) experienced it for myself (yet)... so I'll subtract a point for those nasty rumors...

Overall Rating : 10
I do electronic/sound-design, and in this capacity it's great. I've also used one on straight-ahead music-to-multitrack recording/mixing sessions, usually for a chorus on the bass if I need one. I wouldn't want to get into editing it in the latter capacity, but with sound-design, a lot of what could be problems in conventional studio settings are, at best, blessings or, at worst, minor annoyances. This unit hovers somewhere between the two. I'd look for another one if it were lost or stolen. The only way I'd replace it is with an LXP-15, which, in my experience with it, has similar features and sound quality, but is way more user friendly. Quite fond of this, actually... it and the Vortex are probably the two best sounding units in my rig. Oh, and MAXIMUM bang-for-buck value.

Not a good unit for live use. It has no lit display and a hard to read front panel. This unit requires sit down time to diverge from the presets.

Sound Quality : 7
Sound quality is decent. Some effects are great and mind blowing, but they have to be tweaked just right. There are a wide range of sounds available, but many of the presets are ridiculous.

Reliability : 2
Blew up on me once, had it serviced and now I have a new set of problems with it.

Customer Support : 1
I've had the unit serviced once by Lexicon and its never been the same. It now freaks out and jumps patches without my having sent a MIDI program change message. Patches are not stored in the proper locations. I think Lexicon actually screwed up the unit when I returned it. But this happened a few days after the 90 days you get after a repair, so I was out of luck.

Overall Rating : 4
I'm a versatile guitar player and this unit has some really great sounds. Unfortunately the unit is difficult to use and behaves erratically. Guitarists should explore other units. Project studios should look into units with higher sound quality and a more intelligent user interface.

This unit is "User Tolerant" at best. However, I have programmed it without an MRC - it CAN be done. This is the only downer about this unit.

Sound Quality : 9
I own two of them. Really excellent A/Ds and D/As in this unit. The only only unit that even sounds acceptable in my Peavey Classic 50 212 effects loop. Very warm and detailed.
I use it primarily with my BBE 386 Acoustic preamp. I think these units are a real find. Much better sound quality than aything else in it's (used) price range. Stomps all over the budget Digitech, ART, Zoom stuff. But I guess if you don't have ears, "a chorus is a chorus".

Overall Rating : 10
I think the word "value" is the real key here. I bought two of them used for $180/each. I can't imagine a better deal. Pro level quality for a MIDIverb price. It's well worth the programming hassle. How often do you REALLY edit your patches? Still favorably compares (sound wise) with new products from Digitech, ART, Zoom, etc.

This unit can be used to emulate a digital panpot, because it can be adjusted to delays between 0.6mS and 0mS, it emulates the natural delays of sounds generated in a real stereo field. When used with an editor librarian software package such as XOR or Galaxy, it is easy to pan or even record midi pans in a sequence! The effect is razor sharp in locating the sound in the stereo field, and must be heard to believe. I have used XOR and DR.T's KCS on the Amiga, which can multitask the sequencer and editor, so that editing or recording edits of the LXP-5 in real time is possible. This is much better than the MRC, which though I own one, I prefer the XOR environment because you can see and control more of the LXP-5 without tedious setup time on the MRC.

The sound quality is excellent.

The lxp5 is a confusing to use from the front but if you have a controler like the MRC the lxp5 is great. Everything can be controled with sysex The with the mrc and the lxp5 you can make some insane patches

Sound Quality : 9
the lxp5 has little noise or distortion and good headroom.

i've had no problems

I like the lxp5 and the lxp1 very much but I would think twice about them if I didn't have a controler. The lxp 5 has less noise than any thing else i've used.
