Lexicon MPX 550

The Lexicon MPX 550 is pretty easy to use. You have one main knob to navigate trough the banks and four knobs to adjust the settings. I got it working as I turned it on. I have not used a MIDI controller so far so I can't tell about this.

The sound in all is good but it differs from effect to effect. Although it is a studio unit I use it in my guitar rig mainly for delay and reverb. The delays are for my needs really good, but there could be more. Reverb is awesome. Flanger is crap, not natural and cuts away the volume when it reaches the maximum of the function. The main problem with a lot of effects is that the volume is lower than the input even if you set the volume to maximum in the settings. Chorus and Detune are good but not the best. If you are planning to use this for reverb and delay then go and buy it for anything else (in case you are a guitar player) go and buy something else.

What can I say, I had no problems so far. I guess if you place it in a rack there is nothing that can break on it.

So far I rely on my MPX 550 very much and use it all the time. I don't know if would buy it again, probably I would go for a TC. For this price you get high quality reverb and it is worth paying it.

It is very ease to use. Very intellectual interface.

The factory setings are not very impressive, but after 1 hour I found this unit VERY flexible (20 parameters for each efect) and very easy got the right sound. Any way, I wanted the unit for live performance and now I think in my case MX200 is better solution. :) but MPX550 is great unit for medium range studio it has too many parameters. By the way - i allways rate the units considering the price I paid. I'm sure there are many better sounding DSPs, but not in this price range. For me it is the best unit.

It is Lexicon. Never had problems with Lexicon products. They are great! But their software :(

The unit is great!

Very, very easy to use, intuative to edit - very well thought out. My only quibbles are that the System parameters are edited in a different way to patches - not immediately obvious and that you can't just erase a stored patch.

Sounds fantastic, reverbs really smooth and rich. I think a really good reverb is one that doesn't sound like reverb...this is such a unit. I haven't compared it to a 480 etc but it does exude that Lexicon aura! The presets aren't bad but I was only really happy after making my own patches. I'm only using the unit for reverb but the other effects seem good too.

I'm using this for classical recording and it seems great so far...once I've used it a number of times I'll write a new review if I change my mind! I also have a Lexicon Reflex but this is a bit of a one trick pony, only the large hall is of much use. I'd be interested to compare it to the Behringer Rev2496.

Easy to use, the controls and menus are very well thought out, with the most often-used tweaks being simple to access.

I'm using it in my home studio with the effects sends of my Soundcraft mixing console. It's not as good as the pricier Lexicons but damn good for the price. Very smooth audio quality.

Here is the problem, and the main reason I'm writing this review. I have hardly used this thing, as I do a lot of mixing inside the computer. It's like new and it's probably only been powered up a couple of dozen times... however it is out of warranty. The last time I used it, it failed to boot up, it turns on but there is nothing but a blank screen where the menu should be, and no signal will pass. I'm pissed off that I am going to have to send this back to Lexicon at my own expense to get it repaired. The repair bill with the shipping will probably be half what I paid for it.

We'll see... all I know is that it is not covered by the warranty any longer even though mine is like new. I don't expect any special favors.

If it was lost or stolen, I'd probably buy something else, seeing as how this one broke down while it was still practically brand new. When it was working, it sounded pretty good for the price.

It will take a few minutes to work out how to use it, but isn't that the same with all great FX units?
Editing the patches is easy as the menu is thought out clearly.
Bottom line... Easy Peasy to Use.

I love this unit, the reverbs are simply amazing, the lexichip is the king of all chips when it comes to FX. Reverbs are amazingly real, no metallic clanging here.

An excellent FX unit for the price, no nonsense.

This unit gets the job done, if you love reverb get this unit over any other, there simply is no competition in this price range.

The mPX 550 is so easy to use like programing a VCR

The Effects are great spetialy the reverbs and the delays. The MPX won't make your sound digatal (like DigiTech )it is Great.
The PitchShifter and the Flanger could be beter in my opinion-but hey for 499$ you get the bet reverbs and delays in the world.
I use it in my Guitar rig with a Boss matal zone and super chorus pedals with a '79 Fender Twin Reverb

I did't giged with it yet, but i think i don't need a backup.

I had contact with Lexicon via Mail and they answered me next day.

I would rate everyone who don't likes digital shit,to buy the lexicon
