This thing is easier than a Prostitute i mean ultra easy to dial in a MAIN channel and SOLO channel and all the channels you need..I do recommend when using cabinet simulation that you pick the microphone simulator that sounds best for the best results...

Editing is a breeze if youve used older processors or floor processors..If new to these devices just pay attention and youll find this unit very user friendly

I have never updated cus the unit doesnt need it i hear people talking all the time about all the updates for the guitarpoxt but that unit sux out of the box and they are still trying to fix it...The basspodxt sounds good now

Sound Quality : 10
i am using custom basses that i have either just upgraded or made myself and a power section thats it o and a 4x10 and a 1x18

No noise what so ever unless i tell it to make some

the effects are awesome just need to dial in the sweetness for playing situations speed, accents, emotion

power amp

With this unit i can get any sound i want

I have used almost everything this processor simulates and its does everthing justice but you must tweak per instrument and cabinets you use

Reliability : 10
Cant complain at all

Ive used it on live gigs and studio albums and it does the job in the studio run direct people usually complain about this unit being mono but i prefer mono over stereo for bass and time any place any where

Customer Support : No Opinion
i have this rackmount unit so it does face harsh conditions thats what the pedalboard is for hahahahaha

So long story short i have had no reason to contact the company

Overall Rating : 10
I can and do play everything..... the band i play in is heavy metal but i havent universal bass talent so in my own time i practice and play whatever i choose

14years

I would replace this unit fast i have been thinking of getting a back-up the only reason i havent is cus my rack contains a BAD*** power conditioner

IT IS THE MOST COMPLETE AND ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR BASS THAT HAS BEEN CREATED

Yes i compared this to behringer and boss and digitech ALL OTHER FALL SHORT and they did it at my expense (bastards!!!

This unit holds no surprises afer a quick reading in the manual, unless you new to electronics or effect i think. The first thing i did was connecting it send and return parallel so i kept a bit of my original bass tone. the signal is mix 50-50, that means half of my amps signal and half bass pod. should you return series then the whole signal from your amp is processed by the bass pod.
So when i did that i had no problems finding a nice tone. what i do found out is that the amp models give me the best sounds, i do not use the bass cabinet models though, but i'll coming back on that! Having only the amp models selected is enough believe me. One thing you should do is make your own patches and lose the presets, because you have the opportunity to do that on bank 16a.
i wanted to have my own patches on bank 1a-1b-1c

Sound Quality : 9
My stack is a Ebs td650 and i have two eden cabinets, 2x10 and 4x10.
You should be carefull with switching through the amp models and presets cos some may be louder! Another thing i noticed was when i turn off the bass pod, my amp makes a little noise, not a bad thing but not something you would like to hear when your volume is way up.
I had no problem finding the sounds the bassist use in songs we cover with our band. the best thing is you'll learn much from the history they wrote about in the manual, so if you would like to know what kind of amp you like, just learn the amps and their history.
Another thing this amp does no fail in is that it's made for many styles and bassists. Like rock want a distorted bass sound and freaky funkers use the autowah stompbox. but be care full not to lose yourself in the many effects that in my opinion do not sound too great. the role of a bassist is to lead the rest with a big bang, and like i said having only a amp model selected can give you a different sound and the drive knob for distortion.

Reliability : No Opinion
i did not use line 6's garranty yet, the bass pod xt pro might break like every other unit in your stack, but that depents on your own carefullness!

Customer Support : No Opinion
It's said line 6 offers less attention for bass effect, but the pro version needs no update, i would not risk to lose any patch a made, so i would'nt do a update...

Overall Rating : 8
I play a lot of funk, soul, disco, rock and many other styles, but the bass pod is not a direct upgrade, but fun to have when your extending your sounds. i play allmost 8 years now and before bass guitar i play several year guitar.
If i lose this unit i would not buy i back soon cos i have more things i like to buy, but it's a great thing.
I love the amp models and many ways you can select a input/output.
I have a tip how i use this unit, i have turned channel volume to 0 and bass,lo mid, hi mid, and trebble to 0, so i can use my amp for shaping the sound. you'll have to connect it to parallel return to make this work like this way.

Ease of Use : 9
I have been using this device for almost a year now. It is a great unit for studio use. Just plug in the bass, XLR out it to the mixing panel and off you go. Just make sure to stay away from the presets. Most of them suck and are only there to show off the capabilities (which it does not in my opinion). It takes quite some time to get really awesome sound from it. Basic sounds are easy though. You've got enough amp and cab models to play around with. Getting the most out of it requires some deep editing, but everything is right there and accessible. Your mom could do it.

Sound Quality : 6
This modeling unit is great...if you can make it sound great. Unfortunately that requires some skill. Most of the amp and cab models are fine. Just play around with them to find something you like for your playing style. Watch the parametric EQ setting carefully: they are different for every amp model! Just adjust them manually.
Then we have the FX. A lot of bassists don't use FX, but you get 'em anyway. They are the same as on the red guitar POD! Line6 just did not bother to add real bass FX. Bummer because now we are stuck with some things we cannot use. Distortions can be fine, but take a lot of tweaking. Most are just too loud, eat all your low end and sound like farts. Chorusses take away low end too and sound rather thin. Synth FX are totally useless in my opionion. Bad tracking, bad sound. Reverbs are fine, but could have been done better. Maybe you could find some use for the phaser or one of the onboard compressors.
I'd give it 8 points for amps and cabs and 4 for FX. So that makes a 6 overall. Line6 should be ashamed for this.

Reliability : No Opinion
Mine still works. I do not expect it to break.

Customer Support : No Opinion
What can I say? Line6 neglects bass players. They create units for bass and then fill 'em up with guitar FX! The red Guitar POD gets loads of updates, add ons and shit. Even a bass pack! Should we have bought the guitar version instead? Bad thing.

Overall Rating : 7
Well, the unit itself is great. It is fun playing around with it and it is exciting when I can make it sound great. And it has awesome connectivity ofcourse. I also get a lot of frustration from it. Overall output is quite low: I really have to crank up the power amp. It alsoreally depends on your bass how well it sounds. Every one of your saved settings will sound different with different basses. And I really hate most of the FX. Why is the auto wah useless? Why do the chorusses eat all low end? Why are the distortions so annoyingly loud? Who cares about bad tracking synth FX? You're better off using stompboxes or even the Boss GT-6B.
Line6 is a company that has good marketing. But they are lazy when it comes to bass players. They are heavily guitar oriented. That's where most money comes from I guess.
Overall we have a fine unit called the Bass POD XT Pro. But I am just glad it is not my only piece of gear!

I'm not going to sugar-coat it, I'll just state it outright: If you're not ready to tweak this unit then don't buy it. This isn't a device for the impatient. However, it's greatly improved over the interface that the first generation Bass POD had as there's a screen, and once you acclimate yourself to the menus it's pretty straightforward. The manual is very well written and it has all the answers that you seek, but you will have to put in time reading it.

Sound Quality : 9
I've used this unit fairly extensively for recording and it and for the money it produces great results. I record at home, so I am not using this unit in professional studios, but I wouldn't doubt that these units are used in some. The unit is a mono unit and does not produce a stero signal, but it records bass guitar which is a mono source so don't worry about that. The overdrives/distortions and choruses are pretty good, I prefer the Bass Overdrive to the other distortions. I find that effects that require tracking on this unit leave more to be desired, as they don't track as well as other pedal effects that I've tried. You can still interface your pedal effects with this unit though, so if you prefer a stand-alone pedal that you have it's not out of the question to just use it. Another very useful feature is the SPDIF and USB interfaces, because you can go into the unit analog and digitally record in to the PC and then using the SPDIF come back out of the PC digitally with a DI signal and "reamp" in the digital domain without signal loss. Very nice! You can save decisions for mix time, or record tracks with a completely different sound very easily which makes the unit worth its weight in gold to me.

Reliability : 10
I've been using Line 6 since the first Bass Pod the week it came out, and I've never had any problems with reliability (knock on wood.)

Customer Support : 2
Customer Support for any bass product at Line 6 is very weak. I firmly believe that they do not give their bass users enough attention or priority and they do not seem to accept any suggestions that the user base offers to improve the product. They may argue that this is untrue, but it is what I perceive as a customer therefore on some level it is a REALITY.

Overall Rating : 9
I play mostly rock music and this unit has worked out fine for that. I can hear sounds in it that would fill any genre and the unit is very flexible. It greatly facilitates my ability to get the sounds that I want in my budget, even if it's not perfect at the time that I'm recording I can "reamp" later and get something more appropriate to the final picture of the project. I wish that Line 6 would expand the number of models available and offer model packs the way that they do for the Guitar Pod, I wish they were more open to customer suggestions, and I wish that they would be better about giving a "road map for the future" with where they plan on taking their product lines. They are very tight-lipped about what is in development and while I understand that's best for competition, I'd like to know if certain products (such as a Bass Amp Head) are even being thought of at this time.

since i am already accustomed to programming things like these pods i cannot really imagine that you cannot find your way on them. things are clear and organized.
when not= RFM!!
the manual is very clear.

editing is a dream.

I use the bas pod pro xt mainly live in a well paid coverband in europe. i always can find my right sound...mainly i use the ampeg model with 8x10" in a nice setting and with the right amount of 2 times compression it is a killer( i owned 2 8x10" and the svtII...thank god there is a pod now). for rock songs a la RATM en metallica i use the same amp model but with the 4x15" cab...add a little overdrive and there is it in your face. for dance i use a very usefull setting of the bubdub...a killer for the woofers of your FOH.
just set the things according to your bassguitar and match the imput( need a PAD?)
it is real;ly important to set the channel level as high as possible to be playing in a hiss free surrounding. make your own sound and use the patches in the factory presets for a start.
all i need for live ( except my dingwall 5 string) is this bass pod xt and a pair of westone es-3 IEM's....it saves my back and my ears........the best thing since leo brought the presicion bass.

Reliability : 9
very dependable, very sturdy.
i gig without a backup for more than a year with it....and tomorrow again...so?

Customer Support : No Opinion
i really don't know....never needed them.

Overall Rating : 9
for studio recordings i use this system.
i cannot think of a style that cannot be played with it...and i think i almost covered a lot of the styles.
i have been playing live for more than 20 years and i owned several ampegs, hartke's, eden, swr, aguilar, fender amps to judge the models...for live it is very useful.
basses: 2x dingwall afterburner V, warwick streamer stage I-5str. string( pre-90's), streamer stage I-4str.( pre 90's), fender jazz 1971, fender precision 1968, musicman sterling, musicman stingray 4 & 5 string, alembic spoiler 4 string, hofner and since last week a line 6 bass.
if it was stolen i will buy it again and i can use a midi dump to upload my presets again...so no loss at all!
stereo out is live not needed for me..in the studio i use lexicons for my reverbs....the only things i don't like about the line 6.

It takes a good understanding of the unit itself to get a good sound out of it. However, for the most part it's not that difficult.

Editing patches is pretty simple being that you can just scroll through the menus you want to edit and select the parameter you want to edit simply by pressing the soft button below it. There's not really any guess work involved since you have visual indicators to look at.

The manual does a decent job of explaining how the unit operates. However, being that both the Bass PODxt and the Bass PODxt Pro are both in the same book make sure you're reading the right section or else you might think your unit has features that it doesn't. For instance, a lot of people have mistaken the Bass PODxt Pro for having the capability of a +4dBu output if they used a balanced TRS cable when it actually does not.

I believe the firmware for the unit is 1.01.

Sound Quality : 8
Currently I'm using a Fender American Jazz Standard with Dimarzio Ultra Jazz Pickups. I also run my upright through it. I run a dbx DDP and BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer through the effects loop. The Bass PODxt Pro feeds into a Stewart Audio World 2.1 power amp and the power amp pushes an Acme Low B-2 cabinet.

The unit is not all that noisy that I've noticed, unless of course you up the treble a lot.

The distortions are good especially if you back off on the tone and mix in some of the direct signal. The synths of course require some tweaking and also desire a special touch. Mods and delays are decent. However, my biggest gripe is the pedal wah, auto wah, and dingo-tron. All these are unacceptably weak. The pedal wah is modeled after a Vox but Line 6 failed to modify it to bass frequencies. Also you cannot set the volume of the wah output so suffer from a drop in signal level when it is engaged. And to make matters worse you can't determine where the center of the pedal is. So basically they took everything you could do with the wah in the original Bass POD and threw it out. Why?! As for the auto wah and dingo-tron, Line 6 modeled the Mu-Tron in its band pass setting with the range switch on high. This is insulting to bassists, I feel. Again, to weak to use and too much valuable low end lost. Even missing some of the D.I. signal in does not help it. Thankfully, I own a Mu-Tron anyways to make up for their poor effort.

Reliability : 6
It seems pretty sturdy. I think I would use it without a backup as well.

Customer Support : 2
Line 6 feels bassists are worthless and not a priority. Forget ever receiving help from them.

Overall Rating : 8
I play about every style under the sun and I've been playing for about 10 years. If it was lost or stolen I'd definitely buy it again. I have gotten some really enjoyable sounds live from this unit. I wish the distortions had a high pass filter and a low pass filter so the low end could go unaffected and the distortion wouldn't sound like crap through the tweeter. I also wish they would've put more thought into the wahs.

The Bass Pod XT isn't that difficult to figure out and operate. You may have to sit down for a little bit to figure it out but once you start to understand how it works it is easy to work. It may take time to edit if you have never used Line 6 equipment. It is not hard but it isnt easy. It does have a manual with it and I feel it explains the equipment well and makes it easy to work with.

Sound Quality : 8
I run the XT with a crown power amp. So it is used as a preamp. I went through a samson wireless into the XT into the power amp wich was driving a ampeg 8-10" speaker cabinet. It is a awesome rig. I also went straight from the XT into the studio eqipment to record. You can contol the XT with a Midi pedal or the Line 6 floor boards.

Reliability : 10
It is very dependable I never carried a backup amp or preamp to any concert. I have had no problems with reliability.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed to deal with them but sure they are cool.

Overall Rating : 9
I played alternative/pop rock. It was great for the style. You can dial up just about any amp and speaker model you want to fit your style. Even the type of mic you like to mic it with live and mic distance. I have been playing for 6 years and this has been the best unit I have had the chance to use. There is nothing I personally dont like about it but I do like the versatility I have with it. I would say it helps me make music and makes it easy to play and record.

Got going from straight out the box. It's pretty straightforward and obvious to use. Great ability to get the perfect EQ.

Sound Quality : 8
Playing bass in an all-acoustic (except me) line-up has meant moving away from my Hartke HA3500 head and 4x10 cab to just plugging the pod straight thru the PA and using a Kickback wedge for more control of onstage level. My Curbow petites sound even more beautiful now. Tend to stick with the Finger Definition and SubMachine settings with a little adjustment to get more top end, usually with a bit of analogue chorus. The range of effects is really wide, but most are definitely an acquired taste.
It makes the sound guy's job a hell of a lot easier too

Reliability : 7
Haven't had it long enough to know how reliable it is, but it seems solid enough

Play a variety of styles and there's enough in here to meet my needs, and let me try a few things too. Played for 25 years. Would replace if stolen. It's simple to use and great to use both live and in the studio/practise room

This has sort of a steep initial learning curve but once mastered it actually is very easy to use and get whatever sound you might wish to have

Sound Quality : 8
I have had a chance to play on a number of the units it models and it does a decent job of modeling them. Some of the preset effect it gives you with the initial preset models aren't as good as they could be but that could just be personal taste. It's easy to lose your gain switching between different effects and models. Make sure you have all your sound levels preset and tested before trying to perform with this or you might have problems with volume levels. I have it as part of the effects loop (clean channel) on an Ampeg SVT-5Pro and it worked great once I got it set up properly. Warning!!!! if you have an amp with overdrive try setting this thing up on just the clean channel or it is possible to have it overdriving your signal and then having the amp do the same causing overdrive overload.

Reliability : 10
Thing has worked like a champ.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them but the place I bought it, I am sure would take care of things for me.

Overall Rating : 9
This thing works great and most models and effects are usable as is or with alittle tweaking. There are some effects that are pretty much unusable and a waste of memory. I personally just overwrote them with preset I prefered. There is a reset button on the back if I ever wanted them back.

I use a yamaha 5 string and I love this thing. I am a guitar player generally but I am a better bassist than just the run of the mill guitar bassists! I am a psycho when it comes to tone and I just love this thing. No it is not a tube amp and it does not respond like one...but I am like all you who want to get the best for the money but really would spend any amount in hopes of being a rockstar. This is the best thing I have found for direct bass recording and I would say it sounds amazing live as well.

this has got it all for a digital rack mount preamp...tons of ins and outs as well as usb, spdif, dry and reamp signal.

I have never had any real trouble with line 6 I just HATE the POD 2.0. It sounds nothing like a real amp. (I use mesa triaxis and 50/50).
