For my purposes this thing sounds great. However, I only use it in my recording studio. I am running it thru a Marshall JMP-1 pre-amp (stereo efx loop). I use the recording outs. I combine this with a TC Electronic G-Major for compression/reverb/chorus/pitch/etc. I will attempt to put this in some sort of context.
I have been at this for a long time. I owned an old Echoplex EP-1 which I bought from Tommy Bolin in 1974. It was FAT! The Echo Pro certainly is not in that sound category but its emulations are very close. I have spent a fortune on equipment over the years and I truly beleive "sound quality" is about 75% psychological. I currently use a Korg SDD-3000, TC Electronic D-Two, Echo Pro, Electro-Harmonix 16-Second Digital Delay, Pigtronix Echolution and a Damage Control Timeline.
The Timeline is by far the best sounding with the most "organic" texture. The D-Two has the most pristine sound, clients who are Edge freaks love to see the SDD-3000 (you are talking 95% psychological here), the Echolution sounds almost identical to the Korg and has tons of cool features, and the Electro-Harmonix is just a blast to use.
The Echo Pro is ideal when you need your stereo and ping-pong delays to sync exactly to tempo. Tap tempos always get you "in the ballpark," but fall short when you need to sync to a sequenced midi track. And the tweek and tweez functions on the Echo Pro allow you to dial in some amazing modulations. I really like the Binson Echorec emulation. No, its not exactly like the original but in a mix you can't tell the difference.
I saw U2 in Denver awhile back and paid close attention to the "sound." It was amazing how different how things sounded when you moved about the arena. In some areas the acoustics were horrible and you realize you are listening to multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars of stage and PA equipment. And in some locations it sounded like ****. Now, look at the average band who is playing at a lame bar with a lame PA system. Its going to sound like **** no matter how old/new/custom and expensive your guitar is, let alone what kind of delay you are using.
If your $25 thousand dollar '58 Les Paul, vintage Vox AC-30 and whatever pedals are in the chain inspire you to play better, and enjoy what you are doing more, then it is worth it, no question. That's the bottom line. My Echo Pro has lent itself to some inspired studio sessions. And that's the most important thing, at least for me. I have the luxury of being able to spend time with each patch, dialing in the right sauce.

Reliability is another story. Line 6 discontinued this thing for a reason! All the Pro modelers can have massive problems. Problems that cannot be fixed, ever. I had a Filter Pro. The "sync to midi" on it was a joke. I bought my first Echo Pro on Ebay for around $475. It was in mint condition. I plug it in and the stereo delays were either non-existant or in mono. The guy I bought it from only used it in the mono effect loop of his 50-watt head. He aplogized and said he knew someone at Line 6 and offered to have it fixed at his expense. Since it was like new I agreed. Several weeks later he gets it back from Line 6, fires it up, calls me and says its worse than before! He refunded my money.
At this point I was obsessed with getting one that worked. My next Ebay purchase was much better. I still have it and I love it. I just hope it doesn't die...because I know it can't be fixed. Again, it is not my primary delay, so I could live without it. But, right now I think I would get another one eventually. However, that might change in a few months. I've learned to keep my options open.

Its good if you have something new, under warranty, etc. Privately when the techs get a Pro Modeler they ******* groan. To them its old news and its never good news. They will be as positive and diplomatic as their corporate guidlines will allow. But when you buy one of these discontinued units, you are on your own, dude! Remember - they discontinued them for a reason.

Personally I create electronic/ambient/metal/drone/experimental stuff. The sweep echo on the Echo Pro is awesome. The analog emulations and stereo-ping pong patches are totally useful. For me. If you are a weekend warrior playing blues or classic rock covers, don't waste your money. Get a cheap reliable Roland pedal and rock out.
If you are a kid obsessed with "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," and sit in your bedroom for hours playing it over and over you need to get a Korg SDD-2000. You won't be able to tell the difference. You also need to move those pictures from under your mattress. Your mom always checks when making your bed. Oh, I'm sorry, that was me. Nevermind.
I've seen people pay over $600 for an Echo Pro on Ebay. Seriously. I recently heard the Eventide Time Factor. It is magnificent. And for $399 it blows the Echo Pro away for sound. But - there are some cool things the Echo Pro does that other delays don't. But, if you are playing live and need something reliable that works every night every time - don't chance it with the Echo Pro. I beleive its pretty much a studio piece. I love my Echo Pro but I can;t give it a ten because when it dies - its dead!!
I have a beautiful Minimoog Model D with the original oscillator board. When I play it alone thru my high-end monitor speakers it literally shakes the walls. But after its recorded and burnt on a CD at 44.1/16-bit it loses much of its luster, let alone when the wave file is converted to a compressed Mp3. And when its in a massive mix you cannot tell it from Arturia's software Minimoog. But nothing beats the real thing for inspiration. So - whatever it takes to inspire you to make better music is worth whatever price you pay.

I was going to buy one a few years ago and read a few reviews on this site. Most of the reviews slammed the unit. I found one in Australia and they are rare here. I took a chance and bought it and would have to say it sounds great. If you are after an old school analog delay then buy one, if you want a versatile unit with many settings got an echo pro.
I also have a TC-Gmajor and an RE-20 space echo. The echo pro doesn't copy the TC's dynamic delay perfectly and same with the space echo, but hey it does what you want it to.
If anyone has a problem with the sound of their echo pro then sell it and stop complaining.

As everyone has stated, slight volume drop when the delay is added. I I use this,I mean I did use this gem, through the fx loop on my Marshall dsl 2000 50watt head. The sound was ok,if you could deal with the anoying drop in volume when you stepped on the pedal.
I play an 89 epiphone Les Paul with a Seymore Duncan pearly gates bridge pickup with a coil taping pots, and a 85 fender strat with Texas Special pickups.
I use,at times,a boss super chorus and a dulop cry baby wah pedals.I don't like to cover up the wonderful tones that you can get from a Marshall and a near Vintage sounding les paul .

Poor. The people are friendly ,but they screwed up the request I made to ship it back through UPS.It has been over a week since I shipped this puppy, and now I've been told it will be another 5 days before they even get around to ship me another pedal. I would rather had been given my money back.
Please do not buy this product! by a Boss product or a digitech product.I have had the same boss chorus pedal for about 18 years and it works GREAT.If Dunlop made a anolog delay with reverse mode,I would buy a dunlop.
Thank God this thing has a warranty

The reverse echo mode on the anolog setting sounded pretty cool, which was the reason I chose this product.
I wish I had went with my gut and bought the Boss DO6 delay. It had about the same features .It was only about $50 more .

It is as easy as any rack effect unit I have used. I have used many audio processing devices with a 20 year career in broadcast television and also in audio and playing guitar for 25+ years. It is simple to edit and store your changes and the manual gets you right up and running.

First of all i will address the numerous complaints about this unit's audio. When comparing to an analog device remember one thing - ITS DIGITAL. Digital will always strip some of the warmth away. With ANY digital sound processor, you get the subtle nuances added in by analog being rounded up or down to the nearest number. Also, some of you say that its a $300 dollar piece of crap. Its a $700 dollar unit new, so I suggest you bought your unit as a "second" or with a known problem someone was not willing to tell you about. As for noise, how do you have your gear connected? Do you use hig impedance or balanced. It makes a difference. If you got all your gear connected and it is silent, and then you add in the Echo Pro, and the sound is not silent, it still may not be the Echo Pro, but rather a professional piece of gear finally bringing out the flaws in your system. It may not be the case, but it all matters and is possible. In my rig its as queit as can be. When compared to my TC2290, its just the same. And remember, the standard of the industry, the TC Electronic 2290 Dynamic Digital Delay, was a DIGITAL unit - not analog.
Do some research people and caveat emptor.

I'd give it 5/10 on this one... because:
Easy to get a good sound out of this one: 10. Plug in (you should know how to plug in musical equipment by now!), tune in any factory patch - have fun!
Easy to "understand": if you can read AND if you're not a total newbie to midi (like i was) it's not that hard. this was my first midi-equipment but i think the manual is welldone so i'd get almost everything i wanted/had to know in the first place.
What i can't understand is - line6 got lot's of midiable equipment with three or more different footswitches, but none of the switches work with the echo pro! that's poor guys! you write in your manual about the great functions the echo pro has, but a lot of them are pretty useless without an apt midi-pedal!
i mean - i owned a dl4 and so was excited to now have 1 minute of loop-time, but - a looper without a footpedal is... well... nonsense!
o.k. there are pedals from other manufacturer, but they just don't seem to work exactly the way the echo pro could with the right pedal.
Sound Quality
:

I read a lot of reviews here. pretty much all about the DL4 before i bought it via ebay. I must say, that - soundwise - the most reviewers i just can't understand. o.k. this is personal taste, but some mentioned downsides are just not there! what was there, was the dropping of volume in some models (same with MM4) and i hate it!
I am very glad that this isn't the issue with the echo pro, although there is no way to program the output-volume in the presets (maybe the only downside for me in the echo pro, cause it's so stupid and would be so easy to do!
So soundwise i think this is a great tool. all of the echo/delay models are great and useful, quiet and musical. of course, there are some settings that sound strange/awful, but - look at maybe electro harmonix stuff. there are extreme settings there that aren't useful. well, these problems are easy solved - DON'T USE THEM!
I find that - in every model there's lots of useable and wonderful delaysounds. the unit is very quiet and it doesn't sound too digital (what the DL4 did i must confess!).
all in all this will/would be the perfect tool for studio and live use IF there wasn't the issue with the failure of a dedicated midi-pedal.
without that it's useable (i got a digitech control8 - it's not that uge than other pedals, but it doesn't work 100% perfectly with this unit).
the sounds are great!

i don't know what the heck is it all about?! i owned about five line6 pedals and they all seem sturdy and do their job. as for someone who likes to jump on their pedals - buy something else! this is for music, not for show!
i don't have the money to buy every pedal twice, so i have to depend on it. so far nothing went wrong.

i love almost everything about the echo pro.
i hate the midi-pedal issue... it would be soooo great with a dedicated pedal (that would be not that huge).
can'T compare it to other products... much better than the DL4 (although that was more useable live!).
the output gain should be programmable with the presets!

Ok, I read 3 pages into the posts, and just have this to say: Anyone expecting a Line 6 product to be of professional quality is either niave or ignorant. Don't we know by now that we get what we pay for in this industry? I've been playing lead guitar for 25+ years, so what, but long enough to know that a $300 delay rack does not belong in a studio.
The "tape model"...c'mon, do you actually think a REAL tape delay can be digitaly emulated? The anaolg delay mod isn't too bad, but for the most part, it's a toy, and is a very fun toy.
I am not an engineer so I don't know about "Hz" or loop to ground ratio, but I know that to get a great R&R sound you will have to spend the dough. The more serious you are, the more expensive. I own an $8,500 custom made guitar and own several amps that are over $3,000-$4,000. I use the highest quality cables, REDUCE THE # OF PEDALS WHEN POSSIBLE, for live, and have a unity gain buffer in my "A" and "B" guitars so I can bypass my pedal chain all together and go directly to my amp when I choose to use no effects.
I say this to the pissed off: "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR".
I say this to those thinking bout buying: "think about WHY you are buying this" If you are looking for a top quality delay rack for use in studio, go elsewhere (T.C. D-TWO). if you are looking for a live tool, maybe, but DON'T depend on it. It is NOT accurate as a substitute of the real deal. If you want it for messing around while practicing, GREAT! Use it at rehersal, use it for demos or doing bedroom recordings. It is GREAT fun for me to bring my 3 modeling racks with Demeter Reverb along with a practice amp. I then need no pedals, just one more box. A guitar, an amp and the box, and it's a fun night with my bass player.
But expecting ANYTHING from Line 6 to be a "PRO" quality piece is just wrong: PERIOD. I have yet to accept modeling technology. I have tried. but nothing beats an old, REAL Fender Blackface or Tweed and a well built guitar with high quality pickups.

My signal chain is a bit elaborate:
Guitar - GCX Guitar switcher #1 (Boss CS2 Compressor, MXR DynaComp, BK Butler Tube Driver set for boost, Throbak Power Boost, BK Butler Tube Driver set for distortion, EH Vintage Big Muff - GCX #2 (Boss GE7 Eq, MXR Phase 90, Fulltone Mini DejaVibe, EH Electric Mistress, EH Small Stone, Line 6 Echo Pro with DMC System Mix Line Mixer) - Out to Guitar Amp (Hiwatt Custom 100). Everything is controlled with a DMC Ground Control Pro.
With this setup I can program the GCX to include or defeat all my stompboxes, including the Echo Pro, in my signal chain. The stompboxes are housed in 2 drawers.
The Echo Pro is a good delay unit. The guys at Line6 did their homework, especially the Echo Platter simulation is realistic. I own a real Binson Echorec2 and the Echo Pro is almost as good as the original. Not as organic and meaty as the original but hey, the Binson is a full tube unit, creating the repeats via a magnetic disk. Even the best digital delay unit in the world will ever capture the vibe of it, the Echo Pro neither but it nails the character of the delays. No digital delay will ever sound like a true analog tape or magnetic disk delay unit. Period.
All the other simulations are nice. I like the Lo Res Delays and the Tape Echo Delays also.
I use the unit with a Line Mixer to preserve my analog signal path, killing the dry sound in the Echopro (there is a function that does this, allowing the unit for a 100% wet signal in order to be used with an external Mixer, in that way the Mix knob sets the volume of the repeats).
I don't feel that the Echo Pro is noisy, the midi program change is fast and it does not have a wall wart, a great feature.

I love David Gilmour and Jimi Hendrix tones, and since I play in a Pink Floyd Tribute Band I need a good sounding delay unit. The Echo Pro is perfect for creating Gilmour's spacey and ethereal delays. The real Binson is way better but I'm not willing to bring the Binson to every gig, since it's a delicate unit, so the Echo Pro fill its shoes nicely.
If it will ever got stolen I'll definitely replace it, I bought the unit because of the Echo Platter simulation but the other simulations are pretty good as well.

I've been borrowing the echo pro (the rack version of the DL4!!) for a few gigs, in need for a looper.
Because I didnt have time to read the manual or try it before the first gig, i realized afterwards that it wasnt that easy.
But the second gig I did everything went better, and it was pretty easy to use.
I'm a fan of displays and menus so I give it a seven because of the hard to work with midi when you just see silly led issue.

I'm using this with line-level aux sends & returns on a regular mixer. I gather some folks have had a problem using these units with fx loops on amps. my only comment here is that unless you've got an amp with a stereo line level fx loop, you're probably better off with the DL4. I wish line6 had made a DL4 with more presets & a more versatile looper but this isn't it. some of the algorithms are similar, & it's almost the same colour, but that's where it ends.
the emulations are all pretty good, as they are in the DL4, but here they're all in proper stereo & there's an extra one- the "platter" which is modelled on the binson echorec. I wish they'd put this model in the DL4, & with a piezo in the case so you could kick it like the real thing.
one gripe- & to be fair, they do mention this in the manual- the levels wander around a bit amongst the various models. the cure is to over-write the factory versions with your own edits, having adjusted the mix levels for each one.

User interface is well-balanced between immediacy and versatility.
Besides the obvious param. like delay time & feedback, each "delay model" has two additional parameters which functions vary between algorithms from Hi-cut/lo-cut to wow & flutter/drive.
Compared to programmable delays like Roland SDD-330, this unit is a breeze to program.
In order to get the exact type of vintage delay sounds that you like, it helps if you understand the principles of delay machines.
What I find most impressive about this machine, is the precision featured by the regeneration knob. It is easy to tune feedback so that it gives infinite repetition without overloading the unit.

Using this in the effect loop of a simple rack mixer in a synth-homestudio environment. Very, very quiet indeed.
I have read the various complaints below, but I am very impressed by the snr. In fact, I am often tempted to some add white synth noise for even better emulation of tape & analog echos.
General sound quality is excellent IMO.
Experimentation almost always results in adequate reesults
Especially the lo-fi digital delay with resulotion down to 6 bit is a favourite here.

Echo Park is a digital delay with several modes and knobs packed within a stompbox. Download the manual from Line 6 for a complete list of features.
Easy to use. Double action switch is the most useful feature - enables user to tap tempo prior to engaging the effect. Although it does take some time getting used to.
I suppose another disadvantage may be too many features with no presets to use.

Firsty, I get no noise when I use the unit with a generic standalone 9v power supply.
Using this unit in front of my amp it sounds great. Tape delay is like a memory man although not as intense. Digital delay is excellent. Analogue is not to my taste - a bit muddy.
That said, like many others I'd like to use the Echo Park in my parallel FX loop cause I like to use the preamp on my valve combo without the delay sounding harsh. The Echo Park is USELESS in my loop. Whilst the pedal is on, everythings sounds fine but as soon as I bypass the effect, I lose ALL bass and treble response. It sounds like Ive just switched on a wah pedal. It HONKS. This is really annoying because it renders the Echo Park useless in my book. Ive tried this with no other pedals and still get the same result. Its definately not my amp, leads or guitar because they all worked flawlessly until the Echo Park came along.
Maybe I'm missing something here - if anyone has any suggestions email me at ryanrobles@orange.net.

I bought this unit mainly to be able to use the dotted quaver delay and standard quarter note delay. However, not being able to use it within the loop is a big dissappointment.
The unti is packed with features but what good is that when you may never get to use them.
If you can help me please email ryanrobles@orange.net.

I've been using it in a homestudio rigg. And i have to say i'm disaponted with the way this little thing sounds. I've definetly heard better replications of analogue delays. The sound is dull and cheap and lacks ambience. I been tweaking this box for hour and hours and 99,9% of what i get just sounds boring. The best thing is the loop machine, but even that one sounds crap when playing the loop on half speed. The bass disapears and it just sounds crumbly.

As i wrote before, this one didn't live up to my expectations. I've heard chep guitar pedals that sounds way better. Even my old crappy cyclone has a deeper ambience than this thing. Boring boring boring!
if you want something like this, buy a HK "rephlex" or an Amtech "age one" instead and you will be much happier.

Well..............with egg on my face i write this.....im the "hot headded aussie" everyones going on about. I know gear, i gig three times a week, my rack is a floating rack and powered by a furman. After much much much consultation ive solved the problem. I ended up having to have a custom power supply built to replace the 9volt adapters that were in the rack - obviously it was not directly the unit here to blame but i do think it picks up hum easily.
Also this unit is not cheap "down here" (well...nothing is) so i was slightly annoyed to buy this unit and have problems.
Since solving this problem im absolutely delighted with this unit, so delighted, im about to pick up a mod pro to add to the setup (i got this one at 1/2 the retail price so im all smiles).

I would suggest to anyone purchasing this equiptment that they may not get a "plug and play" experience. It is digital so dont expect what the originals have to offer, but there is some really cool sounds (once u get past the hum issue - if you have it)

It's a cheap unit; so you get what you pay for; plain and simple!
My only mistake was thinking a $289 piece of shit would sound good with very high end gear (Lexicon, Eventide, Soldano Boogie, etc.)
Like all Line6 equipment it's designed and priced for the economically challenged.
This unit is perfect for those on a low budget, or someone that doesn?t mind tone loss or noise (or an arrogant dumb-ass keyboardist who thinks he knows everything about guitarist?s rigs?fuck you too!).
I have many preamps and power amps, but before we even go there? even standalone; this thing is noisy (not mention no vibe whatsoever).
I have isolated the Echo Pro, used line balanced cables (Monster Mogami, etc...), routed it through a Sound Sculpture Switchblade GL (not a cheap Berringer) and it still sounds like shit. (No stats, no MXR, no EH, no cheap cables?)
I returned the unit and exchange it only to find the same results.
I have put enough rigs together over the past 15 years and I can honestly say this thing is a piece of shit on a *pro* level. So how they gave it the name Echo Pro is beyond me.
Make no mistake; there is nothing *pro* about it (or any Line6 gear).

I?m sure a novice or someone using cheap equipment would be easily impressed by this wondrous noisemaker.
For the record I live in the US, so I really don't think the Aussie's are having a power issue. I think it might have something to do with knowing the difference quality and cheap equipment.
Think about it, the unit cost under $300; how could it *not* be a piece of shit. It's painfully obvious unit wasn't made with the same quality components as a Lexicon PCM 91.

I'll start out by saying give your gear a nice home. Mine is in a 4 space rack with Furman power conditioner top space, then a Berringer EuroRack line mixer, then the Echo Pro and then a Yamaha Motif Rack. I'm a keyboard player. Well contrary to most reviews on this site about this product having a 60hz ground hum etc... I think you guys are all on crack. I love it when a stupid guitarist is like- Yeah i run a strat(with buzzy ass single coils) through like a signal chain of 10 pedals and then they complain they hear noise. Well fuck yeah you do dumbass- you need to learn about effects order placement and clean up your janky signal chain. Dude if I chained 10 of my old crusty MXR and EHX pedals together I'd have mad buzz too-more buzz than a chainsmoking honeybee! I put it in my rig and is deadnuts quiet. Also helps to use the highest quality cords you can get at all times. I am telling you all the people that say this thing is noisy it's because they don't have their levels set right, don't understand signal flow and all put the Echo pro in the most janky hippy jerry rigged of guitar setups. If you saw all the peoples rigs on harmony central- many of them would be appoling as far as how ghetto and hoopty they are. Also you can't expect much from any piece of gear if you use any rig regardless of size without a power conditioner. This is my favorite delay I have used. I switch around quite often but I think I'm sticking with this one for a long time.

I have been on the holy grail quest for the best delay that suits my needs for a long time and I've finally found it. I absolutely love the # of different tones I can squeeze out of this thing. I have owned the following delays in the last 10 years.
Roland Space Echo RE201- killer but not rack mountable, not long enough delay time and unrealiable.
Digitech RDS1900 and 7.6 Time Machine- great build quality on the old digitech stuff, great modulation but really cold sounding delay.
Ibanez DM1100- cool sound, cheap build quality
Loft 440- limited analog delay, noisy but it's true analog so what do you expect from bucket brigade
Chandler stereo delay- the most overrated piece of shit ever, and the fact that it uses a wall wart makes me not ever want to use it.
Roland SD1000- big, heavy, cold sounding but great modulation/chorus sounds
Symetrix 606- good idea but kinda in beta fashion- it seems like a beta unit- cool but not really that well thought out, for example there is no power switch! you plug it in and it's either off or on-clearly a piece to remain in the studio and never gig with
TC Electronics D Two- I used to own a TC M One and the D Two suffers from the same cheesy build quality, nice chassis but the knobs and pots tend to get messed up/skip around easily, plus no bypass footswitch so really made more for studio than live work
Ibanez AD202 and UE405- both cool, but noisy, 2 rack space
MXR Time Delay- funky, cool and noisy. :) same with the DeltaLab Effectron I used to own. So as you can see I've owned them all, used them all on Rhodes, Synths, Wurli, Clav, and bass guitar. The Line 6 truly blew my mind more than I thought it would. I am really impressed with Line 6 gear and its truly on another level than the other delays I have previously owned. Probably most similar to it that I've owned is the TC D Two and this thing kicks its ass all over the place plus it has real time control. Don't be dismayed by all the hot headed AUSIES on this site saying this thing is noisy. I bet it sucks having to deal with 240 instead 110 over there- I'm sure it's bound to be more problematic. I read all the reviews of this on this site and was totally leary of this piece but it's won me over big time.

Everything is incredibly simple. From manual dial-in to midi control, It was very simple to get it set up. Note: I am familiar with midi, thus new users of midi may take a while to get the hang of it. I HATE the user manual! It is way too patronizing for me! However, I won?t mark this against them because it is clear.

I had the DL4 and LOVED it. With the DL4, I hated that I was limited to 3 presets and that I had to manually engage the looper. So I looked at the Echo Pro. I have read EVERY review posted on HC to date, which made me rather concerned about getting this unit. The big concerns for me after reading these reviews were: -10db unbalanced i/o, the midi clock, grounding/noise, sound quality, and a posting about the looper running exclusively through the right channel. However, since my buddy so highly recommended this unit ? and since the resale for the Echo Pro is currently MORE than retail (before L6 quit making them), I decided to give this a shot. The db drop was no problem for me. I use analog bypass and set the i/o dials to match. When I play a smaller gig that requires me to run direct, I plug into the system via the xlr outputs and don?t worry about unplugging anything. BTW, the extra 4db boost coming from the xlr outs gives the soundboard a nice hot signal. With the midi clock sync, My Echo Pro is DEINATELY WAY FASTER than my G-Major. The clock difference is so noticeable that I am actually considering opening up the Echo Pro and replacing the quartz! You would have thought L6 would have invested more effort into the clock accuracy of an effects processor dedicated to delay!!! On the up side, I change patches often enough during a gig that the sync isn?t an issue. Concerning the noise issue, I plugged this into my rack and have NO noise in my sound (other than the MXR pedals). Perhaps I am lucking out because I am running ALL my guitar equipment through a Furman Power Conditioner. Lastly on the noise issue, I noted that several of the noise complaints came from euro users; Perhaps L6 equipment is poorly engineered for 240 voltage. Concerning the sound quality, it has not taken away any of my tone. The biggest issue for me was getting the Echo Pro to match levels with the incoming signal, especially since I use the analog bypass. Once I matched levels, I couldn?t tell any change in tone. Concerning a posting about the looper running ONLY through one channel, I have not had that experience. I would not be surprised if the looper runs composite mono (like the DL4), but it still works in both channels of my setup. My best guess it that the disgruntled user had a defective Echo Pro. Overall for Sound Quality, I would give the Echo Pro a 9 or 10 if it weren?t for the clock issue.
FYI:
My Setup: Ibanez ?78 Musician > MXR Phase 90 > MXR Dynacomp > Sansamp > Preamp (mono out) > G-Major (stereo out) (midi controlled by G-Minor & FCB1010) > Echo Pro (stereo out) (midi controlled by FCB1010) > Amp/Direct (stereo out) w/ Georg L cables & Furman Power Conditioner.
My Influences: U2 (old school stuff), Delirious?, Coldplay, Switchfoot (Beautiful Letdown Album), David Crowder Band

Concerning the construction, knobs and buttons appear solid along with the unbalanced TRS i/o?s in the rear. However, I could see myself having to open up the board and re-solder the xlr outputs in a few years.

I am a bit torn: the clock issue is a big deal in my opinion. They have an entire led screen whose default display is the clock!! However, the clock is small price to pay for the features of the Echo Pro. I did buy this used, perhaps I own the unit 'evilgenius' complained about. For my setup, I will gladly put up with the bad clock to gain the capabilities & delays of the Echo Pro!

Got switcher, still noisy. Got the hum to dissapear when the unit is in "analog" bypass but it is still noisy as hell when it is switched in, also, the hum is AS bad with nothing connected to the input (and i run it in mono) so it goes without saying that this unit produces its own noise.

Ok here we go...this thing is noisy. I run either a 79 les paul custom or a 2000 standard > 535Q wah > digitech whammy > EH small stone > MXR phase 90 > Boss cs1 > line6 FM4 > Boss ns2 > 5150 block logo head.
In the loop of the 5150 are (in order) BBE sonic maximiser > rocktron hush 11CX > echo pro. Fairly pro gear.
Without the echo pro the rig was dead silent. DEAD silent. As soon as it was added i heard a very audible earth/ground loop noise. At anything less than full stage volume it is distracting and messy. Not only did it ruin my silent rig i also lost a considerable amount of bottom end "roundness". I paid AU$1400 for this unit and if i wasnt sick of line6 gear breaking down or not performig to their advertised standards, id return it personally to MUSIC LINK AUSTRALIA.
However i had previously ordered in a Digital music corp GCX and ground control so when it arrives i'll see if that fixes the loop problem. Seeing as most people do not have the money or desire to use a switching system this is still a serious issue which line6 should rectify if they are to ask such a huge sum of money for substandard gear.
Too mass produced maybe? Sacrificing quality for quantity perhaps?

Seems sturdy, would gig without a backup. I say concentrate less on trying to make the gear visually appealing and work more on making the gear sonically transparent. If you want pro gear save hard and get a g-force or something similar. Skimping on gear only costs you more money in the long run.

Ok i spoke to Andrew at music link in Australia once about line6 gear. Hers what happened, bought pod pro, got home set it up and output kept cutting in and out, next day took it back to be repaired. Two weeks later get unit back, go home set it up, rehearse once with it and unit starts making random popping noises followed by the sound of a reverbspring being bumped. Take it back to be repaired wait NEARLY TWO MONTHS get it back same problem again. They repalce it with the xtpro means i have to buy new floor board. Floor board lights play up, ligts stay on when i change chanels so i have two chanel lights on at same time, not good on a dark stage. Display goes funky and starts displaying weird characters. The pedals needed to be recalibrated. I returned it and they replaced the unit, but the problems continued.
Im no hack with gear either. Everything is cased in road cases and all power is suplied via a furman pl plus "E" power conditioner.
I teach 50+ students 5 days a week, rehearse with two bands weekly and gig once a week on average. Im a working musician.
After all the problems i spoke to Andrew from music link again, explaing how ridiculous these problems were getiing and if maybe i could purchase some gear through him at cost price as i liked line6 gear and wanted to purchase the mod and dly pedals. He said he couldnt because they didnt have a shop front. Absolute BS! They did give me a free gtr lead tho.... like i dont have enough.

I posted the review earlier, wishing for ping-pong on eveything :-)
I've worked out that I can patch (using the jack sockets) the left o/p into the right i/p and the right o/p into the left i/p... and then feed the unit from an xlr i/p in order to get a ping-pong delay from any of the delay models; repeats being controlled with the output level control.
But, does anyone more technically minded than me, know if it is at all possible to flip the feedback wires around INSIDE the unit, or is the repeat feedback done in DSP? If so, what is the chance of a software solution or a hack?
If anyone can help me with this do please email me at:

This submission is just an addendum to my last review/grilling of L6. The faulty Echo Pro is being replaced. It is still a real dissapointment to buy the Echo Pro and have to return it and wait for god knows how long for the replacement to show up. Its a good thng I am not gigiing or recording right now. I bought it from a smaller speciality music shop so they did not have 50 in stock like a GC. I hope the unit that replaces the bad one works properly. Was great for limited time. After using in looper mode for 1/2 hour all the input signals got very distorted. Very bad, major let down.
I added this in a rack containing Lexicon PCM 81, Lexicon PCM 91 and the awesome Eventide DSP 7000. I bought it to use as a Looper ONLY! No wet/dry problems. No noise problems as in 60Hz hum or other electrical issues.
The quality of Line 6 products is greatly in question. The unit was great for 1/2 hour then it began to distort ALL input signals regardless of how hot they were. I tried both in and out patches... that is the hi z AND the XLR ins and outs in a variety of combinations. Very disapointing. In a word... this piece sucks. I will change this opinion when Line 6 replaces this low quality heap with one that works. I cannot stress my dissapointment in this piece. Its a great idea... but if you build it on shitty parts then then the result is shitty tone. Bad quality control period. Mr Huge... you should be ashamed to be associated with such horribly LOW quality.
