1) Very easy to use and dial in
2) Quiet
3) The only thing I needed the manual for was to figure out how to install the 9v battery. Simple.

I used a Steinberger with Lace Sensors through a Carvin 2 x 12 tube amp.
4 knobs; simple to operate. You can get a nice smooth overdrive or a nasty crunch emphasizing harmonics.
Even at the high crunch settings with harmonics and feedback this pedal was quiet compared to others. Very versatile pedal. It's a keeper.

Well, this thing is built like a tank. About 2 1/2 pounds of metal. I would not hesitate to use it without a backup, however I'd carry extra 9V batteries with me. I think most stompboxes sound better with batteries than with an AC power adapter.

Like most everything else I buy, I bought this pedal used on eBay. In like new condition with the original box, packing and instructions. Fantastic value @ $47.00 including freight - but I wouldn't pay $149.99 for it (and you shouldn't either).
I'm probably going to use this for my main squeeze OD unit and say good-bye to the others. Watch eBay in 2006 as I'll be listing the pedals I don't want anymore.

Easy to tweak to a particulare sound but switching to one of the different modes can mean tweaking the output level or tone controls. I would set up a nice blues overdrive that matched my amps clean sound when the effect was off, this meant rolling down the treble of the line 6 pedal. I then switched to the cruch setting and it sounded muddy, only because I had the treble down for the blues setting. Once I rolled up the treble on the cruch it cruched nicely (not metal crunch but overdrive classic rock crunch). Playing with the pedal tone controls and your amps tone controls you may dial in a good combo that allows for switching easily between modes.

I use tube amps and I was suprised by how good the overdrive was. I could really dial in a variety of settings (on just the blues setting alone). I would first set up my amps overdrive at different settings and then get the pedal to mimic those. I would then set my amp to a clean setting and use the pedal for the overdrive. What I liked was that I did not get a lot of coloration of my original sound. When I activated the pedal it sounded like my amp (or guitar) only overdriven. Having the pop and crunch modes were nice for rock settings or modern blues. No Metal here, no thumping palm muting but I could get some classic rock overdrive (not quite sure I would call it crunch, maybe classic overdrive crunch (late 60's and 70's)).

I play Blues, rock and metal. The pedal was bought for blues, pop and hard rock NOT metal. It was a good match as I was able to get a stronger beefed up overdrive without it going overboard or into a distrortion type of overdrive. Bigger knobs for modes and noise gate would be nice. What I do not like is line out level changing sometimes when I switch between modes. I choose this because I had a Line 6 Flextone and felt Line 6 might have something to offer and I liked the fact that I switch from blues to pop or crunch, I was getting variety.

This pedal is very easy to use (4 knobs) Level, Bass, Treble and Drive.
All the knobs are very responsive and give great tones at any setting.

I primarily use a American Hod-Rodded Strat with a Pearly Gates at the bridge. And Texas Specials Mid and Neck.
The pedal can create a fair amount of noise, but the built in noise gate lets you choose how much you want to blead through. (very cool)
In my opinoin you are getting three different overdrive pedals in one.
1) The Blues Setting: Very traditional tube overdrive sound. (i.e what you would expect in an overdrive pedal). Adjusting the settings gives a large variety different and usefuld sounds. The first month I owned this pedal this is the setting I used primarily.
2) The Pop Setting: Very mild overdrive tone that models that sounds of older tube amps. Very effective for adding a little boost to your clean sound without sounding muddy. Since I purchased the UBER METAL for my primary drive pedal, this have become my primary setting for this pedal.
3) The Crunch Setting: By far this channel produces the most drive over the other settings on the pedal. This channel is a little to much for the application for which I purchased the pedal.
Overall this is a great addition to any pedal board for an artist who is looking for classic drive tones. The pedal is easy to use and can adapt to a very wide range of artists.

I would highly recommend this pedal for anyone who wants an afforable pedal that will enable them to produce excellent, vintage over-drive sounds.
WARNING>>>> This is not a hard rock / heavy metal pedal. No matter how much drive you apply you are not going to get heavy distortion. If you are considering this type of pedal I highly recommend the UBER METAL.
The only thing I would have canged is use a better switch to go between the modes of the pedal and the gate settings. The small switches currently installed on pedal are near impossible to change in a preformance enviroment.

easy, straight-forward audio controls... it was somewhat difficult to get to the battery compartment though. The buttons that control access to the battery compartment get stuck sometimes.

I use a warmoth strat with lindy fralin pickups and a Rivera Quiana 1x12 combo amp 6L6(for live gigs).... and an old Peavey Backstage Plus amp for home/practice.
This pedal sounded decent at home using my solid state Peavey amp. It actually gave some decent sounds especially on the "Crunch" setting. The gate settingd worked well.
So I figured it would sound even better through my Rivera tube amp. I wasn't trying to reproduce the sound from a 60's Marshall or anything, but I figured I'd get some usable medium to high overdrive sounds.
I was wrong.
I attempted to use it at a live gig, but had to remove it rather quickly from my rig. It simply sounded horrible with my tube amp.
I tweaked the controls for a while, but it didn't come close to putting out a decent sound.
Perhaps it was designed to work with solid state amps (like Line 6 amps)??? if it wasn't for how it sounded with my solid state amp, i'd give this a "2" in sound quality

It has been and I would expect it to be reliable. I use a Line 6 DL4 delay modeler and haven't had any trouble with it. Not the sturdiest audio control knobs though.

I play blues, rock, hard rock... been playing for 15 years.
I definitely regret having bought this. I fell for the marketing/hype surrounding this pedal. I'm an idiot. Please forgive me, guitar purists!!
Seriously though... this pedal sounds very bad with tube amps.
Again, it sounded decent with my solid state practice amp. Maybe it sounds good with other solid state amps??? My experience has been that solid state amps just don't sound good in a live setting.

Wish they made a switchable version of this pedal so one could have three diferent presets. Maybe I should buy several of these....

I own several Strats with Rio Grande, Texas Specials and Fender Custom 69 pups and have been playing and teaching for 30 some years now.
The Blues setting sounds really open and doesn't color my sound to much like my Ts10.I actually really like the Crunchtone much better. More output and drive, cleans up nicely and has lots of transparancy.
I own and have owned several boutique pedals like Fulltone and Barber but all I actually need is this little monster, or maybe two.
Pop settings are clear and really fit for playing blues as well.
The Crunch setting is truly useful to get your Eric Johnson sound.
It blends well with my other equipment, I'm currently using a Fender Cybertwin, Lexicon MPX G2, Fulltone Soulbender, Ibanez TS10, Cry Baby Limited Edition Wah, POD Pro and POD Xt.

Using it with a variety of guitars and 2 Peavey Delta blues amps. Sounds amazing on the 'Blues' setting: Thick rich and exciting to play with. First time I took it to a gig and stepped on it for a solo I thought 'Woah - here we go' and 'that was #70 well spent'I was previously using a Boss 'Blues Driver' - which does sound pretty good when the amp starts to distort but sounds a little bit lame at low volume. This sounds fantastic even with the amp hardly cooking.

Line 6 really surprised me with this one...afther trying a few rats, and a snarling dog, I hooked up with the least probable chioce I thought I would make...this Line 6 Pedal...IT sounds great...I use it with a carvin nomad 112, and it sounds like real tube crunch...no fake overtones, if you keep the drive level at 3/4. The Gate function, really silences all that hum...

It is really sturdy built...you can break brick walls with it...the design is ugly in my opinion...kind of robot cop styled...but it shure is "bullet proof"... It has a nice batery led that flashes when your batery is going out...but it eats 9v bateries for breakfast, so better use an ac adaptter...no need for backup then

only wish it looked better...
