A piece of cake. I dont know if there is any metal sound this pedal cannot make. Three models...Metal, Pulverize and Insane. Use "Metal" for 80's metal, "insane" for Nu-metal, and pulverize for anything in-between.

My setup: Jackson guitars with Stock SD pups -> ART levelar Compressor -> Uber Metal -> Rocktron Delay -> BBE sonic stomp -> Carvin TS100 Power amp -> 4X12. Not noisy at all. Its got a built in noise gate which works wonders. Two settings for the gate. the first setting actually varies its threshold based on the amount of gain used I believe. the second setting is just a dead-on quick-cut noise gate.

It is a compact pedal which give you all the warm distorted tones you could want. the mid sweep and midrange controls give you a wide tonal range that is simply not available in other pedals. this pedal coupled with the BBE sonic stomp gives me tones that even a studio CD album cannot produce. Very happy.

When I frist got this pedal, it wasn't the EASIEST thing, but I could get around. You think you know what the scoop does, but I'm still not pro with it and the mid leveling. Everything else is straightforward.

I use a Yamaha Pacifica (PAC-012) electric guitar or Conklin Groove Tools 7 string guitar > ??ber metal > Peavey Bandit 112 amp (not the latest)
The noise gate is great! And I could dial in a better distortion than with most other pedals. I'm actually a Dist pedal junkie. To prove my point, I currently own: Digitech- Metal Master, Distortion Factory, Death Metal, Grunge. Boss- Metal Zone, Heavy Metal 2, Hyper Metal 3, Drive Zone, Mega Distortion. DOD- Grunge. Line 6- ??ber Metal. Moen- Violent Metal.
Yeah, and I still can't get that sound I'm lookin for. This pedal was the closest, for sure. I play n??-metal, post-grunge stuff (Linkin Park, System Of A Down, Deftones, RHCP, Fuel) So I'm lookin for that crunchy rhythm distortion. It took me a while to find a sound, but in the end, it wasn't loud enough! I need to use a Boss Line Selector to up the volume to compete with the clean.
At home I am content, but usually everytime I've rehearsed with my band, they complain that its just all sloppy, fuzzy. So, I don't get that. Maybe it's just the different room, or I got bad ears (I don't doubt it) I curently use it to record one channel of guitar on my PC, but I always gotta filter the end result. I like the pedal, but it's hard to found a universal sound...

It's my personal favorite pedal (til I actually give my new Moen a try) but I still can't find the sound outside my home. I've been playing since Feb 2003 (5 yrs) and slowly upgrading.
I once bought i before, but returned to get a Washburn 7 string. I saw this pedal used for a good price and just had to get it. It's all I've got, for now. I'm gonna try to get a tube amp, along the lines of Mesa/Boogie to reach my sound.
I love the noise gate, but i hate the "metal" setting on this thing. Sounds weak and small, like maybe only for an intro riff before you hit that pounding chorus.

I play this with a schecter damien fr into a kustom 65 watt, i beef it up even more by using a bbe sonic maximser and the sound is huge! the noise gate on the pedal is awesome, flick it on and pretty much all background hum and hiss is completely gone!
The only thing i dont like about it is that when at a high volume it can sometimes cause the amp to make a "thudding" kind of noise when playing the low e string, but this isnt a fault of the pedal just my amp, so make sure you look into it and try it out with your own amp before you buy it, ive tried it on a few of my mates amps and it doesnt do it at all

This pedal is awesome for metal tones but if you play around a bit you can also get some ballsy blues and rock tones as well. The noise gate is a great feature and just makes it sound that little bit cleaner and tighter..great value for money as well, if it was stolen or lost id definitely get a new one.

Anyone who has ever used a distortion pedal should be able to use it. As for getting a good sound out of it...that's another story.

I bought this thing because I wanted a footswitchable distortion to use with my little 15 watt Ibanez practice amp at home since I can only switch from clean to dirty by pressing a little button on the amp itself. I was trying to get a sound as close to the amp as possible - Ibanez TB series are great sounding amps for being solid state little cheapies. Plus I've always heard about how bad ass this pedal is(even the demo video on Line6's website sounded pretty sweet). But now here's the part where I'll depart from the other reviewers: This pedal totally SUCKS!
Now I say this as a guy who has been playing modern progressive style metal for years and I know how to use equipment properly. But after an hour of fine adjustments and tweaking I could only manage to get one decent tone out of this thing...and even that just sounded like an emulation of the sound I was after. I was astounded that this $100 pedal couldn't even come close to sounding as good as a little practice amp that doesn't cost much more than it did.
The best way for me to describe the sound of the Uber Metal is to say that it takes your guitar tone and strips away every bit of its unique quality and replaces it with a digital representation of a certain sound that Line6 thought was a good emulation. Even the EQ knobs, for example, only seem to adjust the frequencies to the way they should sound according to the programmed simulation, not according to the actual frequencies of the instrument. By the time the sound actually comes out of the speaker, my tone is not my own anymore.
The noise gate is the only feature I liked about this pedal and one that I think most distortion pedals need. I know the newer ibanez pedals have them too.
The only reason I am giving this a rating of 2 instead of 1 is that the pedal does sound better in front of my 100 watt tube half stack, although still no comparison to the amp's own tones(B52 AT 100). If you insist on using this pedal, I would suggest using it with a tube amp.

Like I said I play modern progressive/melodic metal with elements of death and black metal so I'm used to extreme distortions. This pedal just falls short in my ears.
And I don't want to be dismissed as an overcritical tone snob who hates everything digital because I've used many digital effects like chorus, reverb and delay very happily. I even used to have a digitech metal master which was pretty decent for me at the time. But I just really hate this Line 6 pedal. I think they go a little bit too far with their emulations to the point where you can't even tell where you are within their preprogrammed tones.
I wish this pedal focused more on driving your tone than completely reshaping it. I will most likely sell it because I doubt I'll ever find a good use for it.

this is a very straight forward distortion pedal with some bonuses.
- 3 different types of distortion
- basic eq treble, mid, bass
- a scoop knob to suck out the mids
- a noise gate with 3 settings
- distortion level
- volume level
i will say that if your not use to dialing sounds on your pedals then the knobs at first glance could make you think theres alot on it. however just looking at the manual and using common sense will helpout alot. if the word treble is below a certain knob then it probably means its the treble knob. i dont mean that in a bad way. all im saying is use some logic and common sense.

the sound is very good compared to other pedals. i have tried out a lot of different pedals and effects pedal boards. i have been looking for a certain sound and this has it. i guess the sound i was looking for was a distortion that was heavy, crunchy, and definition. its almost a sound between tubes and solid state probably. there are actually different sounds you can get out of this. i set aside some time to tweak it when i wasn't busy. okay without repeating a lot that has been said, i will tell you my settings.
level = one mark past the middle
scoop = all the way to the left
drive = about or little after the last mark to the right
bass = about one mark past the middle
mid = about one mark past the middle
treble = about one mark past the middle
distortion type = pulverize (similar to a hi gain warm tube amp)
noise gate setting = in the middle (still get sustain and controls feedback)
these are my current settings as i like this sound. for each guitar player there is a different ideal guitar sound in their head. just keep looking and eventually some pedal or amp will have it. dont lose hope.

I am not a metal player, so why a metal pedal? I have found it difficult to find pedals with the right distortion and I have used alot of them. From custom pedals to every thing in between. This pedal can get great 80's rock and roll to metal and then some...Lots of distortion or dial it down, not hard at all to get a great sound. The best thing in the gate, priceless!!!

This is not a plug in and play pedal. All the controls are very interactive. Slightly moving the mid-knob just one dot makes a change in the tone, Same with the scoop knob. You can get soo many good sounds out of this pedal.
I think it is geared to the metal players, but, you can tweek this pedal to get many classic rock tones, not just metal.

Do not just turn the knobs to max and go. Yu can get thousands of different tones out of this pedal with the 3 main settings combined with the super interactive mid-and scoop knobs. Amazingly, it also cleans up nicely with your guitar volume knob!
You can make this an overdrive, classic rock, and metal pedal. I have two, one set for classic overdrive and the other for classic rock. I don't like scooped metal, yet I'm using a metal pedal! Versatile

As with all the Tonecore line, there are more bells and whistles than a bunch of bells at a whistle convention, but most of the knobs are self-explanatory. The "scoop" knob is a mid scoop/contour knob and the "metal", "insane" and "pulverise" switches are basically EQ curves.

I use a Maton MS-500 with a 70 watt Marshall solid state.
Despite having purchased this pedal (second hand), I don't actually listen to or play much metal. You can get more than just metal sounds from this pedal, though. Dial it down and scoop it a bit and you can get pretty close to the sound of the first Stooges album. The early Kinks/Rolling Stones garage sound is a bit out of its range. Likewise, it's not ideal for the sound of my one true metal love, that of early Black Sabbath. It's most definitely a digital-sounding pedal, and for that reason it should be good for more modern metal such as Metallica.
The noise gate is very effective and even totally suppresses the hum of my single coils; I tried dialing the drive right down, finding a neutral setting for the EQ knobs and using the pedal purely as a gate, but the signal remained slightly distorted. It's easy to generate feedback with the gate off, and switching it on hasn't compromised the tone in my experience.

first off I've had a chance to try an mt2 boss dist. pedal and the uber blows it right out of the water! It is very sturdy... heavy could double as a barbell. The mt2 was noisy and was hard to get a good sound. With the uber i was pleasantly surprised that i could get a good usable sound almost right away. Didn't read the manual... just use yer ears man....

I was expecting tonnes of noise , but was surprised at the lack of hiss or hum. Even with the noise gate off it's quiet. I use two guitars with it , a emg equipped gibson, and a humbucking epiphone. the emg equipped guitar sounds very metallicaish, zakk wyldish, etc. if yer into these types of bands this pedal will do it for you. Hooked it up right into the front of my pv transtube amp cheep amp i know but man with this pedal it makes it sound like finally my lil' transtube grew a pair...

would i use it on a gig with out a back up? yes the construction is sturdy, it stays where you put it no sliding from under foot when doing the pedal dance... i like the way you access the battery compartment. just push the buttons on either side and pull up the thingy you stomp on... and presto! the battery compartment! lol i just thought of something the thing you stomp on even stays up like a car or truck hood... If you've ever had to change batteries on boss pedals the stomp thing gets in the
way that pisses me off.

Many other dudes say that it is difficult to get the sound that you want out of this pedal, I beg to differ. It is acctually pretty simple. It has everything to get the sound you want. Nothing else to say but it is pretty easy to use, easier than the boss mtz-2.

The sound quality is GREAT!!! I have been wanting a tube amp for a very long time but do not have the money dish out at the moment. So I set out to find a distortion pedal that sounds similar if not exactly like tube distorion. I have tried many pedals, the DOD death metal, DOD Grunge, zoom 707II(I do not recommend), Boss Metal zone 2, Stock over drive on my Kustom 100watt which was decent, Boss distortion, Digitech gnx4, krank distortus maximus, and nothing was satisfing me. If you want a tube for the great sounding distortion this is the pedal to get, it is the closes thing to tube distortion that your gonna get. My kustom 100 watt head isnt tube and i didnt want to spend over $1000, of course there is nothing out there that will be exactly like tube distorion but this pedal is pretty darn close.

I play classical guitar, flamenco, jazz, and metal. I have been playing for 8 years, and i search for the best sounding equipment without losing the bank. I have a Kustom 100 watt head, with a kustom 4x12 celestian v30's cabinet, esp vintage eclipse w/ Seymour duncan SP90's, esp eclispe with seymour duncan SH-2n & SH-4B, esp dave mustian V with seymour duncan Livewires, Washburn BT2 custom with an emg 81, Alvarez acoustic, washburn Acoustic, and two spanish classical guitars.
Any ways This pedal is great, for metal heads, you dudes who searching for a pedal that has more of a vintage sounding distortion do not get it because its not what you are looking for. THose who want a tube sounding distortion this is the pedal for you. There are many pedals out there but so many are lacking many things. Thid pedal has everything to help you get the sound you are wanting with out breaking the bank.
