This is a fantastic fuzz but it's not necessarily "easy" to get a good fuzz sound with any fuzz pedal. They work their magic only in synergy with very specific gear combinations. Like all true old-school fuzzes, you can't have any non-true by pass pedal in front it as a buffer of any type will completly screw it up. Any no, you can't put a wah before it either. If you don't know what I am talking about, do yourself a favor and google to understand fuzz pedals better.
In short, fuzz pedals do not deliver the huge glorious wall of chewey gooey woofy fuzz into a completely clean amp, tube or not and especially not into a really bright, really clean amp like a twin reverb, never do that! On their own you'll get a pretty dissapointing flat sort of buzzy sound. I'm not kidding about the synergy they need. They need to hit a lightly distorted tube amp and a warm rich sound at that, like an old Plexi Marshall cranked. They work incredibly nice with a rich el-84 based amp like I have. Even then, if you want to use delay or reverb pedals after it and before the amp you're going to need some help from another pedal because delay sounds like crap into a distorted amp. What to do? Use what I call an "interface pedal." That would be an "amplike" pedal that can be set to very, very light barely distorted setting and be dynamic just like a tube amp. It must also be a big full range sounding pedal, thus no bass-less honky tube screamers etc. It needs a tone knob to control the highs. The pedal I use that works by far the best is a Zvex Box of Rock. Another possible candidate might be the COT 50. I've heard oustanding clips of another pedal called the "colorsound powerboost" that were terrific. Try an aftermarket clone by Throbak that would also do the trick. The fulltone OCD might be ok, but I recall that pedal being pretty shy in the deep bass department. I did try the Blackstar HT-drive thinking getting tube into the equation might be even better but unfortunately, that pedal did not like a fuzz in front at all and I got a really ugly transistory-fake kind of sound, much like a sansamp at its worst. So do know there are very, very few pedals that will simulate a cranked tube amp and be transparent enough to run this pedal into.

Despite learning early on that I needed a "interface pedal" as I explain above the other fuzz pedals I tried were lousy compared to this gem. The tweak fuzz by SD just didn't cut it and was absolutely incapable of Hendrix, Eric Johnson type fuzz sounds, it didn't clean up like the London either. The Keeley Fuzz head almost got there but couldn't deliver nearly the amount of distortion and was also extremely noisey. Others I tried didn't make magic for me either.
When used properly as I explain above, this pedal is just pure sonic bliss and versatile at that. I posted a youtube clip using the London Fuzz with my Blackstar Artisan 15 so you can hear for yourself. It can start off clean with a wonderfull buttery rich glow yet supernaturally transparent to the guitar tone, not the rolled off lifeless syndrome that ALL other distortion devices give with rolled off guitar volume. This is a very liberating thing! The fuzz comes up slowly then very fast between about 8 and 10 on the guitar. So by carefully controlling volume, its like having four different distortions ending up with fuzz mayhem. The fuzz knob seems to have a sweet spot to my ear. Turn it and just before maximum, you'll hear a slight "thump", I keep it just before that thump and that gives me all the fuzz I could ever want but also cleans up to virtually totally clean and again with clarity I guarante you've never heard or thought possible. Low settings are better than the best tube screamer type pedal being richer and more harmonically complex and did I say SWEET? Between that and say 9 on the guitar you have every shade of old school goodness like early zeppelin, Mountain, cream and of course light Hendrix in spades. From 9 to 10 it explodes in a wall of fuzz. I like to play mostly up to 9 than just crank that last notch for dynamic excitment, I don't just wail away all the time at max for my style of playing.
Now, if you're new to a fuzz, you are going to learn out to play differently, this not a something you do palm muted death metal cords with. This pedal is so reactive to your playing you might find yourself having to pay a lot more attention to how you pick notes and strike cords, easy does it. Don't try to muscle everthing, the more distorted you go, the lighter you need to pick. Again, check my youtube clip I think I captured a nice chunk of what it can d. In fact Dumble fanatics might agree this box with the right amp can go a really good robben ford approved tone too. Ok, I could gush for pages but I'll stop here. When used in its proper element I give this work of art a 10+.

I play a little bit of a lot of things. These days I've strayed pretty far fromm my EVH/80's metal days and am totally immersed in the music I grew up with, Zeppelin, Hendrix etc. I am also really inpired by Eric Johnson and that type of wide interval horn-like legato playing, sort of jazzy rock. THis pedal made everything I was striving toward come true. I have had lots of other pedals and amps. This is a pedal I literally think of as a precious musical intrument. It is especially a pedal you could just leave on and just play with the guitar volume. The ability to so dramatically ride up and down through different shades of distortion from clean to all out fuzz will have a dramatic effect your musicianship and get out out of your rut I promise.
Lastly a little tip you might appreciate: There is a lot of voodoo about using carbon batteries and I decided to stick with that and not use a pedal board supply. (This has a reverse polarity so you can't daisy chain it anyway). But we all hate batteries because we have pull it off the pedal board, ruining the velcro each time, mess with screws, measure the battery to see how low it is etc. So here is my trick: Get a batter clip and wire it to a barel connector to plug into the power input of the pedal. I strap a couple batteries for spares with velcro and stick them on my pedal board next to the pedal. That way you just pull the battery off your board and swap onto the next one when you want to change. Also a piece of cake to measure to see where your voltage is. No charge for that tip!

2 knobs, easy enough. However, to truely get the "right" sound from this or any germanium fuzz face-type pedal, set fuzz control on pedal to max and adjust volume from the guitar. This will give you many shades of fuzz from slightly overdriven to fat full fuzz tone.

I'm using this with a Fender Strat w/ custom shop '69 pickups, and a Dr. Z MAZ 18 JR as well as other guitars and amps. I have bought quite a few fuzz face type pedals in the past and I think this is the best. Until now, my favorite FF was an analogman modded Dunlop FF with NKT 275 NOS transistors. WHile that IS an awesome pedal, the MJM was best for the Hendrix thing. THe MJM is not QUITE as fat, but just enough beef without sounding bloated. It has alot of gain/fuzz compared to others ('69 pedal for instance)but it's really dynamic and cleans up well. Some would argue that it doesn't clean up AS much as the analogman sunface, but Hendrix's pedals didn't clean up 100% either so for me this was perfect. The London Fuzz is very balanced tonally. It has a fat low end but very clear treble that cuts through. The London FUzz is inspiring and authentic sounding in a way that I just haven't found in any other Fuzz Face. Sounds good at low volumes too! It is a bit noisy because it has high gain transistors and is susceptible to wah ocillation and radio RF, so if you plan to gig with this, keep that in mind.

I haven't had this for long so it's hard to tell. It's well made but I suppose there is always the chance for a cold solder joint or something. THings happen. If this pedal is being used for your main sound, it's alway good to have a back-up of anything.

Michael from MJM one of the best boutique guys I've dealt with. He answered all of my questions through email and rarely did I wait more than an hour or so for a response. When I ordered the pedal from him, he shipped it from Canada on a Friday and I received it the following Monday in Indiana!!!

I highly recommend this pedal. I've been searching for the true Are You Experience, Axis: Bold As Love Fuzz Face tone for 20 years! I feel that I have finally nailed it with this. It's also reasonably priced as well. The only caveat that I can think of with this is that it's not usable with a wah pedal (however, most FF circuits aren't good for this anyway so I won't deduct any points)

I know i'll never be able to sound like my favorite guitarheroes, because 50% of the sound is in their fingers.
But this pedal helps me a tad.
I am using the fuzz with a Fender MIJ Jazzmaster and a Laney Supergroup MkII, and an old Yamaha amp.
I don't think its as gainy, as some might think, but its okay, 'cause it still delivers nice, creamy, smooth fuzz.
back off the volume on the guitar, and i tell you, you get the sweetest overdrive ever.. really, i have heard nothing better.. and i also own a Fulltone OCD.
It is noisy, when the gain is all the way up. but hey, go figure..

Very simple indeed...just "Fuzz" and "Level" controls. I use mine with Level at 10 o'clock and Fuzz anywhere between 3 and 6 o'clock.

I`m running this pedal as follows...
Fender Strat/Gibson Les Paul Studio > MJM London Fuzz > Fulltone Fulldrive 2 > Line 6 DL4 > 60`s Blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb
This beauty immediately sounds effortlessly great. I was after that Hendrix Voodoo Chile fuzz that just pulls and pushes your tone, screaming every note you sustain and thats exactly what I got with the Fuzz turned all the way up to 6 o'clock. As I backed the fuzz off slightly and switched to the neck pickup of muy strat I captured another favourite tone of mine...the solo from "Time" by Pink Floyd!
But as a recording artist I`m not just interested in recreating the sounds of my favourite artists, I also need a usable, tweakable and recordable fuzz and I definately have that with this pedal.
As you roll back the volume on the guitar it really hits you just how good this pedal is...it cleans up so well and retains all of the tone of your guitar. And unlike most pedals where you loose alot of high end when rolling back the volume, this pedal shimmers and retains that responsive feel and clarity. You really get that "Little Wing" tone perfectly!
The London Fuzz has kicked my Fuzz Factory off my board! To me the fuzz factory only had one really usable and dignified sound and this pedal just does that sound so much better! Just with the "fuzz" control on this you get such a varied option of usable sounds!
I must say that this pedal really sounds at home through a slightly cranked amp on the verge of breakup. For me, I had the deluxe reverb on 4 and had the level on this at around 10...it just sang so beautifully!...each note sustained like a dream and broke into musical and controllable feedback. Sounded amazing with a little fast Echo!
Anyway, I never thought I`d find a pedal worthy of a 10 but this really does deserve it!

Before buying the pedal I spoke directly to Michael and asked for his opinion on which of his pedals I should go for to achieve the sound I wanted. He was very helpful and shipped my pedal out to me that day! As it was coming from the US I expected to be waiting a fortnight but it arrived just a week later! He didn`t rip me off on the postage cost either, which is something that most people do! He is always very quick to answer any questions and I totally have faith in that if anything were to go wrong he`d get it sorted very promptly!

There's a Level and a Fuzz control... how much easier can it be ?
If you can't get a good sound out of it, Either you don't know what a Fuzz is or you simply just don't know what you want. There's a led and an Ac adaptor connection. The only thing that bugs me is the four screws to get the battery out. There should be an easy to open way, but its no big deal.

The London Fuzz is easy to use. In my opinion it sounds best with both the "Fuzz" and "Level" knobs maxed, and controlling the dynamics with the volume knob on the guitar, but obviously different settings yield different tones.

I run a '57 reissue Fender Stratocaster into the London Fuzz and then into and Orange AD-30r. I bought the London Fuzz specifically for the Stratocaster, for some reason it does not sound as good with the other fuzzes I own (Prescription Electronics Yardbox, Homebrew Electronics UFO Fuzz, MXR Distortion +). I also run the UFO Fuzz, with the fuzz control turned down, into the London Fuzz, to take advantage of the London Fuzz's sweeter fuzz but still retaining the octave effect from the UFO Fuzz.
I use the volume control on the Stratocaster to increase or decrease the amount of fuzz, which I leave on at all times. With the volume knob up full, the tone is very similar to Jimi Hendrix's "Foxey Lady". Reducing the volume yields tones ranging from "Spanish Castle Magic" to "Hey Joe". I turn up the volume knob for solos. It's really easy to use and get a good sound. It cleans up with the volume knob and a softer picking technique and wails when you turn up and dig in. It really enhances the octave fuzz as well.

I play a lot of bluesy British 60s rock and I wanted a Fuzz Face style pedal for some time. I have been playing for 29 years. I own a Gibson Les Paul Standard, a Gibson SG Junior, a Fender Esquire reissue and the '57 reissue Stratocaster. I really like the pedal's authentic reproduction of the Jimi Hendrix sound circa 1967-69. I appreciate it's simplicity and sweet, musical fuzz. As I mentioned, I was having a hard time finding a fuzz compatible to my Strat and this pedal solved that problem.

I'm using this with a '52 Reissue Tele into a Pro Jr tweed amp. To hear the pedal in all it's fuzzed out purity, I ran it straight, no chaser, into the amp. It's not a noisy pedal at all, except for when you crank the gain, in which case, there comes the standard noise associated with a guitar ready to rock. Of course, I find that little touch of hiss a lovely harbinger of things to come...
The sound of the London Fuzz itself is fairly a thing of beauty. I've auditioned alot of fuzz pedals (and pedals in general) and where this effect excels is letting your guitar's tone come through. Unlike so many other masking mechanical/electro/compresso pedals, you actually get to hear your guitar! Think of the London Fuzz as your outboard pick-up with balls, not a party mask. This isn't a Big Muff chainsaw (which I also love for what it does, when I'm feeling funky), but a wonderful organic fuzz. I'm really very impressed with this pedal's abilities and musicality. I hate to do it, but I'm going to give it a ten. No, I'm not normally a Russian Olympic judge, but what else can you do when the competition is second best?

Could not be easier to use. True bypass. I was on a hunt for a Fuzz pedal that would bring me close to Hendrix and Cream and that would let me adjust the amount of Fuzz with my guitar's volume pot. This pedal does that perfectly. You can go from smooth overdrive to good amounts of fat/focused fuzz just by playing with your guit's volume. Thank you vintage germanium transistors !

Set-up: American Telecaster > MJM London Fuzz > ZVex Fuzz Factory > Boostier booster > Delay/Verb/Moog MF-102 > A/B/Y Outputs > A Output to Traynor YCV40WR > B Output to Fender Blues Junior. <p> I bought the London Fuzz twice. 2 Years ago i was using a completly different set-up, i thought the LF just sounded to fat and nosy for my ex-Yamaha AX-125 and Marshall AVT50 (not all tubes, hybrid amp. Maybe that was the problem). But you have to know that i didn't really know what i was doing two years ago. I was still looking for "my sound", i wasn't sure what i really wanted. Now that i know, all i can say is the MJM London Fuzz is the most incredibly fat, focused, full and dynamic Fuzz pedal i have ever own. I tried a few Fuzz before: Big Muff reissue, Zoom UF-01, ZVex Fuzz Factory,...The LF is in a category on it's own. It's almost to fat for my Tele's Neck pick-up ! I now use 2 Fuzz pedals, the LF and the Fuzz Factory. Two very different beasts. While the FF can give you a wide range of crazy and often out-of-control fuzz, it can't sound full, creamy, fat and focused like the London Fuzz. The FF is often pretty noisy, the LF is a bit noisy when Fuzz is at max only. The LF also offers a wide range of Fuzz/Distortion that remain focused and full all the way from 1 to 9 on the Fuzz knob (or on the Guit's volume knob). There is a bit of noise when Fuzz is at 10 (well i hope there is, it's a Fuzz), but it sounds great for certain application. At that level of Fuzz, you get near the Big Fuzz sound with less shrills and treble gain (Try the MJM Foxey Fuzz for one of the best Big Muff sound available). The ZVex FF complement the LF perfectly, opposites attracts i guess.
The FF is more suited for Stooges, Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth type of sounds. While the LF thru my Tele can me bring me back with Cream in 67-68. For Hendrix, theTELE can bring me close sometimes but you need a Stratocaster for cutting thru better. Final word: the LF can growl like there a 500 pounds Lion is about to come out of your amp and jump on the audience. All other Fuzz i've tried don't have the bass presence the LF can give. Sometimes, i get the feeling the signal goes from mono to stereo when i turn it on. I almost never write reviews, but for this one i had to do it.

I'm into experimental music that leans toward old Blues. The London Fuzz definitively helps me make music and is very inspiring to me. I try to buy gear almost exclusively from specialised Boutiques now (DaveSmith, ZVex, NI, Loooper, Moog, Burris Engineering...) and MJMGUITARFX is one of the place i'd recommended to visit for Fuzz and classic pro quality pedals. I have learned my lesson with the big companies: bad customer service, almost never true bypass, often sounds thin, cheap parts, bad support. Pay more now for quality products, it will pay later and you will stop wasting time on mass produce products of average quality, probably built by robots or modern slaves. Garbage in, garbage out. Quality over quantity. Less is more.

This is an update to my post from 2 years ago
"Submitted by Anonymous at 11/07/2002 02:43"
Since that time, I've been using darker pickups (Les Pauls, Strats with Fralin Steel Pole 43s), and the London Fuzz does kick out some serious thump. Perhaps too much for said guitars without some knob tweaking. I read about a mod you can make to the London Fuzz that uses a different value Volume pot that cuts out some of the mud. Hmmm... I emailed Mr MJM and asked him if he could do it. He offered to do it at no extra charge. I sent him the dough and a coupla weeks later, there it was.
I like it even better than before. One of the best things about these pedals is the way they clean up from the guitar's volume pot. Now it's better than ever. Just leave it on and go from crunchy to singing instantly. Nice!!

Japanese 62 RI alder/rosewood Strat. Fralin VH/VH/SP43 pups. --> London Fuzz --> Germino Rockgrinder (amazing amp!!! KT66s are my favorite power tube. Greg's hybrid JTM45/Bassman/50w SuperLead is the best!!) with both volumes on 10.
Despite massive gain, I can stop playing and not get feedback. Hum yes, feedback no. With the guitar volume on 1, I've got great Small Faces, early Who, Prisoners jangle/crunch. With the volume on 3-6 various shades of crunch. 7-8 are great for rifftastic zep/top cops. 9 is a solid lead tone. 10 is liquid fuzz. Sounds absolutely fantastic at every stop along the way. The Germino is a very hot amp, and really doesn't need extra help -- and it cleans up really, really well by itself, so your results may vary -- but with the London Fuzz on top I'm totally set for any situation.
I never thought I'd use a fuzz as my only pedal. They always seemed like a novelty or like the Crazy Special Occasion Nuke. This pedal somehow makes my already versatile amp more versatile.
And it's totally luscious and gooey and wonderful. From crushed ice to maple syrup.

I play classic rock, blues rock, rock rock, rock and roll, rock, soul, and funk. I own a lot of stuff. This pedal, with a hot tube amp, is terrific for anything 60s-70s. The thing about fuzzes is that they sound utterly bizzare (and in my opinion totally unuseable) with solid-state or clean tube amps. The sound we like is the synergy that occurs between hot tubes and germanium diodes.
The London Fuzz is great because it's so organic, but so much gnarlier than an overdrive pedal. Plus most overdrive pedals sound silly when you back off your guitar volume. Not so with a great fuzz. If anything, playing through the London Fuzz with my guitar on 7 sounds a lot like playing through a Nobels ODR1 with my guitar on 10.
Oh right, the bass mod, which was why I set down to write this in the first place. I prefer this pedal with the 100k pot (the version that's modded for less low-end). The original version sounded great on a strat bridge pickup, but there was so much bass that it squeezed the guitar out of the mix. This new version sounds great with all pickups, including the bridge, and cuts through the band much better.
I've tried Fulltone Fulldrive2, Fulltone Distortion Pro, Fulltone 69, Fulltone 70, Nobels ODR1, Klon Centaur, Rat, AnalogMan BiCompRossor, OG Marshall Guv'nor, OG Marshall Blues Breaker, Original Arbiter Fuzz, Boss SD1, TS9 with the right chip. Call me crazy, but this is my favorite. I think in 20 years these things will command the big $$. Get one while they're still cheap!!

Superb. When I first got hold and plugged it in at room volume, I was expecting some crazy, sustained fuzz ala Big Muff. It sounded smooth and organic, but I was initially disappointed until I played with the band, and turned it up. Awesome. It is the most amazing and versatile distortion/overdrive/break-up/whatever; not just a buzzy fuzz. It doesn't really excel at the palm mute 'chugga chug' thing, but your going to have to go amp distortion or Rat for that. True with the guitar volume modulation, too. Turn the guitar volume halfway down, and you get an awesome, Fender Champ-like, slight tube break up.
This pedal really sounds best through a tube amp. And it LOVES a Strat. And I found out that a Big Muff (my favorite fuzz box) in front of it gives me that super wicked sustain, but cleans up the Muff's grittiness and smooths it out. Great combination.

One tiny quirk: If I turn the gain knob all the way up and let go, it seems to not hold on to the maxed position. Like if there were 10 increments in the gain setting, it only goes to 9.5. There's just a little bit of juice I could get that I'm not getting, unless I tape the gain knob on '10'. I'm sure the pots are top notch, and perhaps that's the way it's designed. No big deal really.
Other than that, I haven't run across the even the slightest problem. I would absolutely rely on this pedal.

I wouldn't recommend this for that Mesa type 'chunk', but for classic rock or blues, or nearly any other type of distortion, this is a fantastic fuzz box to try out.
It actually doesn't sound like a sixties buzz fuzz or a doom rock box; both would be more Big Muff, in my opinion. It is pretty amazing though.

I have the germanium model. I use it with a 50s Tele (with Harmonic Design Vintage Plus pickups), a '65 Jaguar, and an Epi LP (with SD pickups) into a Deluxe Reverb RI.
This thing is amazing. Wonderful thick yet clear fuzz. With my Tele's HD bridge pickup (Fuzz around 4:00; guitar volume at that sweet spot you'll find through a little experimenting), it cuts and burns on the high end, rumbles and snarls on the mids and lows, and leaves you panting, wanting more. That it takes away the highs a bit is one reason why I think it sounds so good on the bridge pickup and on the bridge/neck position. Adjust your guitar tone to taste.
I also run it into my analogman 808 modded Boss SD-1 overdrive (a tubescreamer type) and it's a great combination. The analogman SD-1 is a great pedal but sometimes it needs some added edge and grit to go with its mid-heavy warmth. The London Fuzz does the trick. I set the Fuzz around 11:00 or 12:00, back off the guitar volume so that you can just hear the fuzz a bit on chords, then kick in the SD-1 and the result is fantastic.
Another thing: despite upgrading the pickups and tone capacitors on my Epi LP, overdriven and distorted (either with the SD-1 > DRRI, or on the dirty channel of my Marshall AVT50) it sounded harsh and brittle -- not at all what I expect from humbuckers. While this still remains a mystery to me, I'm not sweating it anymore because it loves the London Fuzz -- now I get the warm thick distortion tones I expect from humbuckers... go figure.

I am using the LF with a Strat and Gibson 330. These go through a Deluxe Reverb w/ Weber C12N. As far as effects go I change between variations including a Teese Picture wah, DM-2, DD-5, Maxon Phasetone, Vintage Rat and Time Machine Boost.
The LF has plenty of harmonics which is the trademark of a good fuzz IMO. The volume goes to a comfortable level whilst the gain goes from a nice, edgy crunch through to claustrophobic. Perhaps it isnt as usable throughout the whole range of sweep though.
The LED is positioned badly. Right next to the switch, this is obscured when i activate the pedal and has proved a nusance in live situations. The construction is solid with my only complaint being that the battery could be better housed. (Mine was "stickytaped" to the inside wall for the most part). The soldering is fisrt class and components top notch. Heavy guage wire, true bypass switch, NOS germanium transisters and Switchcraft jacks.
I will also say that there is a slight pop when engaging the effect. I was told by Michael that this may just be my particular amp. Annoying for a boutique pedal all the same since I have had to mod it to get rid of it.
The tone (which is the most important thing) is great and really sings once the sweet spot is found aallowing the individual notes of a chord or lead line shine through.

I play jazz, blues, funk, surf and roots-rock. This stompbox gets most of its use in my more experimental jazz-rock leanings. There were other fuzz pedals i was considering but this is fine for now, as I only use fuzz in a limited capacity. I think this fuzz likes single-coils better than humbuckers IMO. Cuts through better.
Nothing more to say. Hope this helps you in your decision.

I use this with my 61 Tremolux (a 2 6L6 fender) with the volume on the amp (normal channel) on 9 or 10. The o/t on the amp has been replaced with one from a Fender Pro from the same year, so it's not quite as crazy compressed as 9 or 10 would normally be. Still some highs in there. I use the pedal with old danelectros (super low output) wired all kooky, so usually when I hit the fuzz, the pickups are both on, out-of-phase, in parallel. So I'm hitting the pedal with a quiet, bright, knocky, midrangey signal. Sometimes I go from the guitar into the fuzz into a fulldrive 2 and then into the amp. Oddly enough, the 2 pedals sound awesome in series.
Speaking of awesome, this fuzz is amazing. Fantastic for infinite sustain without sounding all buzzy and boogie-y (nice adjective). Eats up the highs (in a really good way) and thickens/eats everything else up into a nice caramel/fondue tone. Fantastic. I don't use it much for chords and stuff because it really brings a lot of mids to the game, but that's not why I bought it. I bought it to try to achieve that wonderful snot-tone that Billy Gibbons gets on Arrested for Driving while Blind. I heard this tone once. It was a Jaguar (?) with the low-cut filter on into an original Fuzz Face into a blonde Bassman. Whooda thunk it?
Fantastic stuff. And quiet! A fuzz (vol & fuzz set to about 11:00, but that's actually a lot - this thing goes deep into garbage-disposal-ville if you're looking for that) into an OD into a cranked amp? A pretty hot amp. No feedback problems. Tried the same settings with a strat and things were squealing, but if you take the FD2 out of the mix, things are quiet and peachy.

I intend to play fake gutbucket, fake Gary US Bond songs, and fake Freddy King cops. The pedal is perfect for when I accidentally play fake Hendrix, fake Top, fake fusion, etc.
Here's the thing: This pedal does not sound like a shitty squarewave generator or like there's something wrong with your amp. It does not sound like all those terrible boss fuzzes, or the equally terrible fulltone 70 pedal (sorry, mike). It does sound like the screaming/singing, thick to the point of nearly coagulating, soaring lead tone that's sometimes hard to get with single coil pups. Ah, but once you do, you experience the joy of witnessing a tone so much more detailed than that of the hat they call Slash.
That's what you want to know when you're looking to buy a Fuzz. And whether it feeds back or is tempermental. It doesn't and isn't.
That's why you're reading this post. Problem solved. Go buy one and help this guy and his awesome new company to produce more awesome pedals.
Oh, and when you do, try (I know this sounds silly) shitty batteries instead of Alkaline ones. They sound better with it. Go figure.
It gets a 9 cuz it's just a fuzz. I mean, it doesn't come with a built-in luthier/driver/masseuse.

This is an update to my review dated 4/10/2002. Though I tried this pedal out in a store several times and decided not to buy it, one of the reasons behind my decsion not to purchase the MJM London Fuzz was that I already owned a half-dozen fuzzes at the time, including MJM's 2-knob Britbender pedal, so I felt I would be duplicating a type of sound that I already could achieve with my other fuzz pedals. I do like the MJM Britbender, and believe that it will become a collector's item many years from now.

Sounds very smooth and warm. Thers alot of fuzz here and a decent amount of sustain. The pedal cleans up fairly well when you lower the volume on your guitar but only when the fuzz knob is set low. I play blues rock. I have been playing for 20 years and own a 1970's Strat and a 1989 Gibson and a dozen boutique fuzz/distortion/overdrive pedals. I ended up NOT buying this pedal after playing through it two different days for a half an hour each time. I have the Mayer Axis Fuzz which is brighter sounding and that pedal suits me well enough. The purpose of this review is to give an objective opinion to this pedal as every other reviewer has given it all 10's in every category and thats just unrealistic.

The London Fuzz is the best Fuzz pedal I've ever heard! Just like all my MJM effects, they are made true to the circuit and sound right. This is the ultimate Germanium Fuzz Face clone and it nails all the classic tones from Hendrix to Clapton. I play Fender Strats and amps and this baby rocks! This Fuzz has an incredible amount of gain for a Germanium and it cleans up so incredible well. Think of "Like A Rolling Stone" by Hendrix at Monterey and many others! That tone is possible with this beauty. The tone is FAT, FAT, FAT and smooth, it is purely an amazing Fuzz Face clone. Even playing with a Strat, this baby has plenty of gain and when you roll off the guitars volume knob, it cleans up so well. Also, when you roll off just a bit, it sounds like a wonderful overdrive. If I really wanted to use the London as my only only overdrive live, it would work because there are so many great tones and gain stages avaiable just from the guitars volume knob!!! Wonderful!!! Michael knows Fuzz!!!

I've been playing for 23 years. I play Blues and Hendrix. The London Fuzz is perfect for my style and all applications. This Fuzz is extremely versatile. I also have other fine MJM products like the Ulysses Wah, Sixties-Vibe and the Blues Devil. These effects are really all made to perfection with care and understanding of what the player expects for ultimate tones. If this was lost or stolen, I would be VERY upset. I would have to have Michael make me another one.
If you are wondering how this unit compares to the Fulltone '69, then read on. The '69 is more like a modified Fuzz Face, it is not exactly true to the originals like the London Fuzz. The '69 has "bias" and "contour" knobs along with an internal trimmer. That is alot of bells and whistles for something that doesn't even hold a candle to the London Fuzz!!! The London Fuzz has 2 knobs and those two knobs do much more than the '69 ever could!!!! The London Fuzz is an exact Fuzz Face clone and in most cases, even sounds better than the originals. The London Fuzz has far more gain than the '69 and cleans up with perfection. The London Fuzz is a no brainer if you seek a perfect Germanium powered Fuzz Face. Like all Michaels effects, it is true bypass and sounds right!!! You will never be dissapointed with this work of art!!

This pedal really rocks! Sounds juvenile, but true none the less. You can get a good sound at any setting. Its quite organic sounding--lots of character. A little noise at high levels, but not enough to be annoying. For my applications, I often run the Fuzz control at zero, which gives some biting crunch with fuzz overtones. I wind it higher for a juicier sound for some leads. The pedal nails the sixties and early seventies sound while also doing a decent job at grunge and the older SRV paint peeling leads.
Although I use a couple of different rigs, the LF is used in the following set up: Modded ESP strat clone with Dimarzio Virtual Vintage pickups and a Fishman strat replacement vibrato tail, into a Marshall "Ed" compressor, Budda Wah+, MJM Blues Devil, Guyatone Flip Tremolo, London Fuzz, Ernie Ball Volume, and AKAI Headrush into either a Rivera era Fender Concert, Graphic Orange OR80 combo or a Trace Velocette 12R.

I've played for 20 years, have own more pedals and amps than I care to remember. I play many styles, from country (the good stuff, not the "new country" crap)to classic rock, to the ambient and heavily processed 80's guitar stuff, to R&B, funk, Motown, acid jazz and, of course, da blues. The London Fuzz, in spite of the fact that it is a fuzz pedal, has many applications due to its sonic body and range of sound. I won't talk about all the other fuzzes I've played except to mention that I've tested it against the Fultone 69, 70 and Soul Bender, and for my tastes the LF was an easy choice (subjective thing). If lost or stolen, I'd buy it again, and bug Michael for ivory chicken heads.
I own two of Michael's pedals now, the other being his Blues Devil. They're both long on character and organic sound and deliver marvelously, whether at minimalist settings or at full throttle.
Cheers,
Chronexus

Using a stock Strat into various blackface Fenders, this pedal nails that classic 60's germanium fuzz sound. Think '67 Hendrix, Velvet Underground, etc. It is VERY sensitive to your pick attack, guitar volume, & anything else that's put in front of it. I recommend 1st in the chain. Cleans up nicely when you roll off your guitar's volume. Very dynamic & earthy. Works with you, not against you like other fuzz pedals. Like most fuzz pedals, it likes the cheap dollar-store non-alkaline 9 volts better than a Duracell or Energizer. If you want that '66 Arbiter Fuzz sound & don't want to spend $500+, buy this pedal. You won't be disappointed! Also, it's tru-bypass.

As soon as i plugged my guitar into this pedal i expierenced a Fuzz that sounds way better than any other i have ever tried! All i can say is that it has a magical tone to it. It sounds like it has a lot more life than other fuzzes i have used which inclued 2 Fulltone 69's, Diaz Texas Square Face, and 2 Dunlop Fuzz Faces. It is just Fat, Dynamic, Smoooth, and has more fuzz and gain available. You can instantly get a incredible Hendrix or Allman tones from it. What i also like about it is that it cleans up nicely and all volumes on the guitar are usable. Turn the guitar down if you want slight clean overdrive or turn it up if you want full out fuzz. Overall my conclusion is that i will be hard pressed to find another Germanium Fuzz that sounds like this. I plan on keeping this one. The only thing that could use improvement is the graphics, and the silk screen job. It just seems that he could have put more effort into the cosmetics. For that reason i can't give it a 10. The paint job is excellent but the way he did the graphics looks like an amature job. I told him what i thought about this and he was so cool responding back by saying that he and that he plans on eventually working on the cosmetics. I told him if he matched the cosmetics with the quailty of the sound he would be bombarded with business. Internally he does use top notch quailty parts and real germanium, i believe NOS transistors. The graphics certanily wouldn't hold me back from buying another if i lost this one. Go and buy one from him at www.musictoys.com or his e-mail at mjmguitarfx@hotmail.com It will be the best Fuzz purchace you will find!

Before I bought this pedal I read many fab reviews of it. I started thinking that it was some hype about it. I have to admit that the others guys on the web swearing by it were right: this fuzz is faboulous. So far I used it on a single gig in a small club. I've got a Plexi but in these situations I prefere to use my Marshall Artist combo. My live rig was the following: '69 strat (rosewood board)into a Budwah into a Voodoo Lab Microvibe into the London Fuzz into the amp. As you can see a simple rig for a natural, "in your face" tone. I used the fuzz mainly for lead. The tone was amazing: FAT, BIG, dinamic and also very sweet and musical. I own and I have tried many fuzz boxes: Fulltone 69 and 70, Austone Fuzz Nutz, Big Muffs and even old originals Fuzz Faces (silicon version). The London Fuzz blows away all the new Fuzz Face or Big Muff clones that I ever heard or owned and is just as good as my originals Fuzz Faces. My best one is still my '68 FF with bc108c transistors but is a lot noisier than the London Fuzz wich is very quiet indeed. Al in all a fantastic fuzz for a good price, perfect if you're into Hendrix, Cream and heavy electric blues just as me.

This pedal is a perfect recreation of the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face. With this unit, I can nail just about every Hendrix fuzz tone off his first 2 CDs. This pedal also can handle the Cream era tones and Eric Johnson sounds. I have tried out many of the other popular brand names' fuzzes out there and this one just sounds and looks so much better. At low volumes it has a wonderful sweetness and when you crank the fuzz it just continues to get fatter and warmer.

I wouldn?t compare this unit with a original Fuzz Face. Why? Because I?ve never played one that was 100% original or that sounded good. This London Fuzz is just amazing! Comparing with the other fuzz boxes I have(6 more that supposed to be Fuzz Face kind of sound) this unit sounds fat, full, organic, and very musical. I thought it would sound less fuzzy, since all the other ones I have(but the Wells NYC) are more warm and round sound, with much less gain. The London Fuzz prime for it?s name... it really FUZZ!!! I can?t get a bad sound on it... most of the other fuzz I?ve tried, including the ones I have, aren?t that complete. I can use it with the Fuzz knob from 0 to 10 and get the same tight bass response from it. Also, it doesn?t loose nothing of it?s top or bottom end response, wherever is your guitar?s volume knob. This is what I call a complete fuzz box!!!!
I can get bell like tones using it with the strat volume rolled back or full, tight and huge fuzz just on the guitar?s
Volume/Tone knobs.
And what really makes me fall in love with this pedal is the fact that you can get thunderstorms fuzz sound without loosing the pickups character. And I?ve tried with Marshalls, Fenders, Matchless, Les Paul, Strat and Tele... and nothing can make me think about a negative point on this pedal.

I do appreciate a good guitar, amp sound. And of course, I really appreciate the sound of everything that is plugged in between them. And this pedal does it's job perfectly. If I loose it, I'll not even think twice... I'll place an order for another one in less than 5 minutes!

Very easy from the get go, takes a second to dial in the sweet spot but after that it's all downhill. It's good to find the sweet spot with the volume and then max out the fuzz. From there on just control the amount of Fuzz/Clean tone you want with your guitars volume knob. I love this feature.

My setup goes as follows, Strat w/ Duncan Antiquity II's-->London Fuzz-->Fulltone Deja Vibe(older white version, nice)-->Vox Reissue Wah-->Blues Pearl Bluesmaster. The Blues Pearl Bluesmaster is an amazing amp and breaks up nicely. It's a 3x10 brown bandmaster type amp but has some more gain. The London Fuzz is a vintage Fuzzface type pedal with carbon composition resistors, NOS parts, and best of all, two matches Old Stock Germanium Transistors(the goods). The pots are massive and top quality along with all the other parts and wire. I got mine colored in a Navy Blue Hammerite finish and it looks quite nice. It runs off of bateries as well as an option to use an AC. The box is very sturdy and i'm impressed with the construction. Nice Hand Wiring, good finish, excelent mounting of the circuit board. The way I use the fuzz is I put the Volume of my Bluesmaster anywhere above 6 so it has a little break up, set the output of the fuzz at about 1/3 level(the sweet spot), and max out the fuzz knob. This gives me a Full bass response when i strike that low E so the fuzz stays tight and thick. It works great with all pickup combinations on the strat. It's good to have your amp set with a good amount of treble if you already don't because this germanium fuzz brings a lot of bass. Once you dial in all your settings though, it can get a tad noisy, thats all right, barely tweak your volume on your guitar down to about 9, and the noise goes away and the fuzz is thick. Roll off the volume and the fuzz goes down and cleans up nicely. The fuzz sounds good anywhere you set the volume knob on you guitar. The best fuzz i've ever played. Not harsh, it's very fat and organic. It can nail all those Hendrix-Fuzzface tones that he's known for. I can only wonder how this would sound with a plexi. You could probably get every tone off the woodstock cd. Voodoo Chile type tones are very easy to nail. This pedal is my favorite out of all I have. I'm becoming very very fond of Mike Milcetic's work. He's a great guy and he makes great pedals.

I haven't had it for longer then a couple weeks, but it's very sturdy and i'd trust it from the get go. The true bypass switch is very sturdy, the box has a good strong finish, it's a nice durable box also, and the chicken head knobs are locked on very firmly.

Wow, I don't know what to say other than that I was blown away. I've never talked to a guy that owns a buisness that is either so interested in talking to other guitarists, or just cares so much about his customers. Mike is willing to talk on the phone, answers e-mails nicely and courteously, and is very knowledgeable. I worked up a bill calling Canada with questions. The other day i was online and he was online reading mails, and in a string of an hour, we probably e-mailed back and fourth 4 or 5 times, now thats customer service. Him and Rob Hudson of Bluespearl are definently the two guys that I think are the best with customer service. They both love what they do obviously, they both are great at what they do, and they both have great customer service. Mike even says if your not satisfied or like the pedal, you can send it back in the first few days, little will do this either. If I could get a 20 for this, I would. This is above and beyond a 10.

I'm a blues/rock player. I love Jimi and Stevie. If this tone machine were stolen i'd be sending another money order to mike for another London Fuzz. I plan on getting another of his box's in a short time called the "blues devil", an exact replica of a TS-808 w/ the original chip and all, w/ true bypass, and tweaked for a little mor drive to get it over the top. I have no complaints with this pedal, it just flat out sounds awesome. Notes are fat, scream, sustain, and hold on nicely. It's just an overall explosive sound when soloing also. Like I said above, this is my favorite box now. If I didn't have one after this experience, I'd be crying because I wanted one again so bad. If anyone has questions feel free to e-mail me, I must warn you though, I'll try to think of all the things negative about it, but you won't get any responses cuz I won't be able to find any. The price is great too. Their so low because Mike is just starting out. They SHOULD go up. But regardless, get one.

I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR FIFTEEN YEARS..BEEN A FUZZFACE FREAK SINCE I'VE HEARD "HOLLYWOOD TOWN HALL" BY THE JAYHAWKS AND TRIED TO CAPTURE THAT SOUND FOR YEARS..TRIED LOOKING FOR AN ORIGINAL DALLAS ARBITER AND ARBITER ENGLAND FUZZFACE, THOUGH THEY SOUNDED SUPERB...$500 OR $600 DOLLARS FOR A FUZZ PEDAL IS A RIP-OFF...AND THIS PEDAL IS THE BEST AND ONLY SOLUTION. IT IS ALL THERE, WALL TO WALL FUZZ, SWEET SUSTAIN, FAT AND REALLY GREAT SOUNDING, ROLL YOUR GUITARS VOLUME KNOB IT CLEANS UP NICELY LIKE AN OLD CRANKED FENDER, GREAT FOR COUNTRY BENDS AND CHICKEN PICKING. What an excellent fuzzface should sound! Used it with Humbuckers and single coils, from Fender to Marshall, if you are familiar with every classic fuzzface users from Hendrix to Gilmour this one nails it! The best fuzzface clone period! If you are worried that the website has no sound files, don't worry you won't be dissapointed. I ordered mine because a lot of people in news groups are raving about this pedal, and I ordered one. Had every fuzzface clone known to mankind, and this one is the only one that nails the Holy Grail Fuzzfaces!

This box has an input, an output, an a/c jack, one volume knob, and one fuzz knob. It is very simple to operate. It is true-bypass and comes in a very nicely painted blue metallic box. You really just plug in and play. It is hard to get a bad sound though.

I use the London Fuzz with a Telecaster Relic and a '64 Fender Vibroverb. I also use an Ibanez TS-808 and AD-80 pedals. It is not too noisy at all. I have heard fuzzes with much less gain than this one that have much, much more noise. This pedal seems to like all of my amps: Fender, Matchless, Harry Joyce, and Silvertone. I also have a Fender Blender, Z Vex Fuzz Factory, 2 Bosstones (orig and reissue), and a 60's Sam Ash Fuzzz Boxx. The London Fuzz just nails that 60's fuzztone. It is impossible to hook it up and not instantly feel that vibe. It drips with Neil Young, Hendrix, and Clapton from that era. It is not too muddy and not too bright. It is just right on the money.

I give it a 10 because it does what it is supposed to do. It just has that certain something that all the other Fuzz Face clone pedals can't. It is a new pedal that sound old. I compared it to Fullone fuzzes and many others out on the market today. All the others are very weak in comparison. If I lost it I would definitely replace it. It is not very often that you run across a pedal with this much tone.
