MJM Guitar Effects Sixties Vibe

The unit is easy to use. Volume, Intensity, Speed - not much to it. It is a little difficult to get the speed right, however.

I play a Strat through a peavey blues amp. I find that it is very good with compression, but when you add fuzz to it, it's 'swirling' is quite timid.

Built like a 747. As someone said before, who could afford it?

When dealing with Michael, he was exceptional at customer service. His prompt replies were brilliant, as well as his willingness to answer my silly questions.

This effect nails the Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix thing well. As said, with fuzz before it, it sound quite dull. Perhaps the fuzz after would make ie more useable with fuzz/distortion. I would buy another one if it got stolen.

What I love about this pedal, is that it IS the Uni-Vibe sound. I think it's superior to the Deja Vibe, and cheap at half the price.

If you have every effect a person could want, than this is perfect to blow your bonus on.

just wanted to add a bit more to my review. from what i know, vibes need to be in certain locations with other effects to get the most from them. so i tried the vibe at the end of the chain. read on

big difference--it is thicker. rates right with the phase--but different. still liquid. i had success with my dunlop 3rd in line between the roctavious & brit bender. forget any volume drop with it at the end going to the amp. again, his site clips live up to the promise. bonamassa needs to check out mjm if he hasn't already. he has the knowledge of tone that the rest of us hope for--me included. most of us keep trying more effects like drives & such, always hoping to discover a find before someone else. the 60's vibe for me now is an end for this sound. same for the other effects i have--un-believable. all that's left now is maybe a pickup change on a couple guitars--i found smits pickups in tennessee. look him up.

i'm happy with this buy. very liquid sound. it sounds the way i wanted a vibe to sound. got it from guitar x in colorado--quick turn around with shipment. this vibe really opens up your playing. for me it does. you want to keep playing it. keeps the writing going. i would buy again. i have an expressive amp & expressive effects. the guitars are all set. you won't see many guitar players say something like this--only took 26 years. we'll see what these boutique guys will come up with in the next 5 years. alot has improved since 2000--this will continue.

i plugged in & thought--sweet sound. i have used a dunlop--not bad--but the 60's vibe has an attitude--a good one. the more i play, the more i like what i'm hearing. it takes up some space on the floor--i run 7 effects, but a uni-vibe always took up space. not an overbearing vibe. it seems to blend with what the amp is doing

i use a fuchs ods. i play lp's & teles, & the prs mira. no noise. my chain starts with the guitar into a teese wof 6 wah--mjm roctavious--mjm vibe--option 5 phase--mjm brit bender original--option 5 rotation--fulltone trem to the amp front. i don't lose what the amp is doing--no tone sucking--there may be some, but i'm not going to get picky. the amp is very flexible. i use death valley cables. there may be a slight volume drop, but vibes can do that. still, when at stage volume, things are clean--the notes ring. these are all good quality effects & cables. i have plenty of current going thru--i also use the supplied adapters from option 5 for their effects. the vibe takes an 18v. the other effects run on fulltone 9v. i use the vibe with the amp distortion. with the mira, i can get a nice acoustic tone with the pickup selector that allows me to use the fuzz & the vibe--same with the tele. mjm has an original vibe to base this on from what i've read here--so this should be it. haven't played on an original--but i hear they messed with the amps tone. the mjm to me does not. works with the wah well. i even mix it with the trem. the option 5 phase is thicker--the mjm vibe is watery. the other reviews here must be accurate for the most part--i like it. i read in one review that fulltone fuzz's don't work with the mjm, i don't know--just get mjm's fuzz's & problem may be solved. some effects just won't go together. doesn't mean they're are bad effects--that's how it can be.

looks sturdy--i agree with the others--mjm gets back to you quick with email. it's new--i'll find out. take care of your stuff. no rating cause it's too early to tell.

i'm waiting for a kr & mjm vibe comparison somewhere. i was going to get on kr's list, but the wait is long. i hadn't heard too much about the 60's vibe. i liked his other stuff, & thought let's do it. mjm is still a good secret in some ways. he'll be getting recognition in due time. & his stuff is available thru his site & several dealers. took 2 weeks to get this one--same as the others. i'm into hendrix-trower tones. i like the jam stuff too. i can get an array of tones for my originals. i don't need a foot controller. it is musical. i've played for 26 years. it can get intoxicating--i get into the mood a hit it. this effect shouldn't be a secret for much longer. shipping & the 18v adapter i bought separate from the effect cost me $290.00 total

The controls are intuitive and well laid out. Initially I was disappointed that there was no option to connect an expression pedal for control of the vibe's speed, but the speed knob on the unit is very easily adjusted by foot. The fact that it's "backwards" (speed increased with counter-clockwise movement of the knob) was a breeze to adjust to. Actually makes sense, because the vibe "should" be later in the signal chain (Jimi used it last, before the amp). When placed to the far left of a pedalboard the speed knob is well positioned to be adjusted with one's right foot. Turning the toe outward to speed up the vibe actually works better than the opposite for some reason. Go figure.

The Sixties Vibe sounds absolutely extraordinary. With no other effects on into amps set to light breakup it's THE SOUND. It can't be overstated how good, how authentic this unit sounds. Hendrix. Trower. Floyd. Thick, juicy, swirly eargasms fer sure. Superlative on top of superlative can only do it justice.

Unless playing into a well overdriven, dark (marshall like) amp, the 60's vibe will thin out the tone of a fuzz (scoop the mids and decrease the overall volume). Add a distortion unit designed to make fender amps sound like marshalls AFTER the vibe to compensate for this.

I tried the 60's Vibe in various places in the chain, got a new fuzz (a Fulltone '70) and settled on the following order:

I found that the vibe made my fuzz, the Ultimate Octave in it's stand alone fuzz mode (without the octave up engaged) sound terrible whether it was placed before or after the fuzz. Hence the addition of the Fulltone '70 (an apparent exact copy of the blue dallas arbiter fuzz face used by Hendrix at the time he incorporated a univibe in his setup). With the '70 in front of and the Distortion Pro after the vibe, I get the best sounding approximation of Hendrix's sound to my ears. The distortion pro makes my fender amps darker and more Marshall like, so the vibe signal going in sounds "better", by which I mean more like Hendrix while the fuzz is on. If I have fuzz on, with vibe, but no distortion after the vibe, it sounds very scooped, thinner, and not as lound--more like "who's that lady" than "machine gun". That's not bad, it's just not the Hendrix sound I'm after.

Seems rugged. I've had it for a few months without issue. I opened it up to experiment with the internal trimmer that apparently controls the intensity of the photocell bulb, and the innards are very neatly done. The enclosure is solid metal, sturdy as hell.

Who could afford a backup?

I had some issues during the first days of using it. I had ordered it online based on reviews read hear and had not played with one. It sounded great to me all alone, but with my then current fuzz sound (the ultimate octave by fulltone) is sounded like poop to my ears. The throb was WAY to intense, and rolling back the intensity control to where it became bearable cut the overall signal and produced a volume drop. I e-mailed the manufacturer about my concerns and the owner/builder, Mike responded the same day with very patient, kind advice. He advised a silicone fuzz based on the dallas arbiter fuzz face used by Jimi instead of the ultimate octave (which he told me is a clone of the Foxx Tone Machine, which I didn't know...) and confirmed that Jimi used the vibe after fuzz, etc. He explained that volume drop occurring with rolling off the intensity is normal, and how original univibes behaved. Any way, we exchanged e-mail for several days as I experimented and got used to the pedal and he was very nice, promptly responded to e-mails and indicated that he'd issue a refund if I ended up not liking the unit. I ended up loving it, but his willingness and great attitude were very comforting. This guy really stands by his products.

I'm a bluesy/psychedelic player. I fell in love with the univibe sound when I was a teenager listening to Hendrix and Pink Floyd. The Sixties Vibe is perfect for achieving those sounds.

I've been playing 23 years and have had a lot of stuff. My current setup is described above.

I've played through both of Dunlops versions (Univibe and Univibe Stereo Chorus), the Fulltone mini Deja and Deja Vibe 2, the Micro Vibe, the Soul Vibe and the Boss RT-20. The Boss was the worst (digital artifacts were WAY apparent into a cranked tube amp). The other analog units ranged from OK to almost good enough. The Sixties Vibe f****** NAILS it, I say that without reservations. There's no "good enough" factor whatsoever. I never got a chance to try either Sweet Sounds Electronics vibe, or the new Tube Vibe by Effectrode, both of which are supposed to be the cat's ass. But the MJM GuitarFX vibe outshines the Fulltone, believe that(and I think Fulltone products are *******').

This unit is real easy to use. Plug it in and in seconds you get an awesome uni-vibe sound :)

Ok this is it. Just to add something real quick, I have a buddy of mine that owns an original uni-vibe and I have fell in love with the sound but who wants to put out over 1 thousand dollars or more to get a used one on eBay so like many others I went for the hunt to get a clone. I have been searching for a uni-vibe clone for years and have been very disappointed with what I have bought. I owned a Voodoo-lab vibe that totally sucked I don't even know why they even bother calling it a vibe. I then bought a Roger Mayer Vibe Jr. I got sucked in by reading reviews on Harmony central and that set me back a lot of cash. I was very disappointed with the mayer vibe and you can read my review on it on harmony central. I also have tried a Fulltone Vibe and it was nice but no where near the tone reproduction that this 60s vibe has from MJM. The fulltone was muddy and very bad response in the mids and highs. Put it next to a real vibe and it loses the battle in seconds.I would have liked to try a mojo vibe but never had one to to compare. Ok I heard about this guy MJM and I live in the same city that he does so I emailed him and wanted a demo because the music stores in Montreal didn't have any stock. I had enough of getting ripped off and I wanted to really hear it before I bought it. I asked him if he had a real uni-vibe so I can hear them side by side. Mike is a really nice guy and when I went to his place he pulled out the real vibe and had it next to his band master. I was amazed that he not only had a real uni-vibe but it was in Mint condition. He was very confident that his product was as good as the real thing so I said ok lets plug it in. I heard the real vibe and then I put his 60s clone. I was blown away. this unit is hand build from ground up. It had all the same tone qualities of the original vibe and I honestly had a real hard time telling them apart. I instantly bought it because I never heard anything that sounded so close to the real thing. I read in harmony central from some people that said that the controls are not that responsive and that the unit only sounds good with everything on full. I have one thing to say. Whoever wrote that never really played a real uni-vibe. after reading that I actually went on the real vibe and played with the controls and then did the same thing on the clone. Well guys it was actually exactly the same response. the intensity and chorus/tremolo and speed reacted the exact same way as the original uni-vibe. What a great find I am so happy because this is the holy grail of vibe clones. Thank you so much Mike :)

I can totally depend on this unit. I opened the unit up and took a look at the guts, and all I can say is my hat down to you buddy. You really made something that is totally amazing and completely hand built.
I think that this unit should cost a lot more then it does because Roger Mayer sells his crappy vibe for 400 US and that is for the Junior which is mass produced Chinese stuff. I don't like putting down anyone but for the price that I paid for the JR there is no comparison. I rather go with the hand built unit that has no RF problems and sounds exactly the way it should. As far as the Mayer Jr vibe it had RF and a boosted signal and distorted when used with humbuckers and it didn't sound like a real vibe when I put it next to the real uni-vibe my buddy owns.

Mike answered all my emails very quickly and gave me the answers that I wanted to hear. He didn't have any units at the time I emailed him but told me that he would have some within 1 week and as promised he emailed me and told me to come by his place to demo the unit.
after meeting mike I can say that he is a very nice guy, totally honest and has nothing to hide. He personally told me that if I had any problems with the unit that he would fix it ASAP. I doubt that I will have any problems because this thing is built like a tank.

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years, I love vintage pedals and amps. I own a 1973 100 watt marshall, a 1976 Fender twin and I play with a Strat, Tele, Jackson, Flying V and other guitars that I own. I love Jimi Hendrix and Gilmore and that is a main reason why I so badly wanted to get a real sounding uni-vibe clone.
If this unit got stolen I would defiantly buy another one.
I didn't give it a over rating of 10 because I wish it had a expression pedal control for the speed like the real vibe has. but I haven't seen any other units that do so maybe I will get into modding and try and incorporate that feature in there myself LOL
I think that for the price I wouldn't even bother trying a mojo vibe at this point because it sells for nearly double the price used on eBay and you can't buy a new one since the owner of sweetwater is ill and he is not building any at this point. So I didn't want a used pedal that I couldn't try. Finally I put this MJM vibe next to my buddies real vibe which I originally fell in love with and you guessed it, It sounded just as good as the original. If you are looking to get a real uni-vibe clone I think that this guy really puts out the best one out there. Don't just believe what I wrote try it for yourself and you will see :)

Very simple to use. I'm really glad this unit does not have external center (or bias) knob. Those are really major PITA to get right. This is plain and simple, plug and play.

So far I've had Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe, RM Voodoo Vibe Jr., Sweetsound Mojovibe, Voodoo Lab Microvibe and Provibe in my CC2. All those vibes I've owned are really top notch, but this is the one that suits me best. My references for vibe sound are Hendrix and David Gilmour. And this baby delivers those familiar vibe sounds. Mojovibe or Provibe is the second best, in my book. Both are really good and somewhat similar. But 60s vibe is looser and more lush compared to those 2. Microvibe is very good bang for the buck kinda vibe. Roger Mayer vibes are also very useable with lots of options, but have more cut which can be good or bad thing depending what amp/speakers you're using. With brigther amps those can be little brittle. The Voodoo Vibe Jr had annoying volume boost and with amp that's already overdriven it ads too much distortion. But still, good units. Apart from Provibe those other units can be powered with 9v which is really practical. This unit needs 18v which means U gotta get another another external adaptor or use something like Pedal Power. Perhaps this is the reason for increased headroom, this doesn't distort even with humbuckers.

I use THD Bivalve, Marshall Superbass or Hiwatt Dr103 with THD 2x12" cab. I'm mainly a stratocaster guy but occasitionally I use my Historic Les Paul (R7). Pedals that are in active use are Green Big Muff, Teese Picture Wah, Fulldrive 2, BK Butler Tubedriver, EH Electric Mistress (2x9V) and Deluxe Memory Man. Other pedals I own are RM Axis Fuzz, Analogman Sunface (NKT275), Captain Coconut 2, TIM, Hotcake, TC Nova Reverb and so on.

This is very quiet unit. Feels like solid build. Only thing I'd like to point out is the paintwork. Paint chips of really easily. I haven't had this long, only few months but still it looks like something that has been abused for decades. I doesn't bother me though, I like the reliced look. I haven't had any problems with this unit and I expect it to last, but who knows.

I had some problems getting this unit from dealer. I emailed to the MJM guy and he was very customer oriented. If I should encounter any problems with this unit I trust he will fix it.

I wish this unit was smaller and had the possibility to use footcontroller for speed like Mojovibe, Provibe and Voodoo Vibe. Luckily the speed knob is big and rather easily adjusted by foot. I highly recommend this unit. Check the soundclips from manufaturers site, those are very accurate.

I give overall rating 9 because no ability to use expression pedal, big size and the fact that paintjob is fragile.

It is very easy to use. MJM has included a tear sheet that tells you how to use it and offers some advice about 18V power supplies.

You WILL get the sound of Hendrix and Trower as you hear it in their recordings. The Chorus is outstanding.

I have two Strats. One is an ACME Guitars 1962 Strat made from a replacement body and neck with Fralin high outputs, a blender configuration, and a .1uf filter cap and a volume kit. The other is a C/S Pro Closet Classic with SCNs.

Either guitar sends a signal via Two Rock cable into a Barber Barb EQ>Strobostomp that does not have Neutrik jacks (it will be noisy if the plug jostles while you are moving around,so it is 2nd in line)>Orion Custom Squish Wah>60's Vibe>Octron>SunFace>Textosterone Overdrive>Analog Man modded Maxon AD-9>Fulton Web A/B box>Two Rock Cable>17 Watt Fulton-Webb Head and 4X12 Cabinet. Right now there's an assortment of patch cables made by Mark and LAVA. I'm probably going all Cardas there.

For a UniVibe Clone it is not that noisy. All settings should be at max, but you can dial back the intensity to 3 O'clock if you want to, plus there is an internal trimmer for intensity that Michael at MJM recommends full counter-clockwise, but you can dial back to taste.

The SV is not weak and always sounds great. The only thing I notice is that it sounds best after it warms up a bit. I think you should turn it on and turn the intensity all the way down first thing and let it warm up. Also, you MUST use a regulated 18V/150mA power supply like the Dunlop ECB-04. I tried a PP-9 12/18/24V Power Pump and don't like the design.

I don't think UniVibes/clones were intended to deliver Pristine Sound Quality, so it is a 9.

As long as you have a good 18V/150mA power supply it will be fine. If you look at the internal guts in the SV you'll know it is well made. Also, if you open it up to trim intensity, be careful because the tolerances in the wiring are very fine. Open at an angle so you can see the trim wheel.

If I had the extra money I would have two of everything I own and it would be Kosher for me. Right now, I have the Mojo Vibe as a backup.

MJM is the best. I had a concern about a burned smell in the SV when I was trimming the wheel and Michael said to send it to him just to look at it as if he was at a local guitar shop. He also said if it got lost in Customs he would send me a new one! Unbelievable.

The way to ship it through customs to Michael for any reason is through USPS and it will run you $17 depending on where you live.

Turns out it was an issue with the power supply where the caps were heating up too much. Use the Dunlop ECB-04! The Godlyke Power-All is outstanding, but I think their PP-9 Power Pump is poorly made. The little selector switch detents made me wonder if the PP-9 provides the correct amount of juice needed to drive the SV.

MJM is in it for the long haul and I can't believe more people do not know about this company.

Some Vibe manufacturers don't respond to your emails unless you are a Rock Star on a Major Label. Not MJM...

MJM is Outstanding!

I seem to gravitate to psychedelic Blues from the likes of Trower, Gilmour, and Hendrix. Alot of their stuff has this tone closely related to a heartbeat. The SV has that heart beat nailed as others have commented, and the throb of it is spot-on.

By November 2007 I will have been playing for 3 years. Tommy Shannon said that Stevie Ray Vaughan valued LISTENING to music more important than playing it, so since I am a great listener, I am on the right path.

I've got this little Peavey Classic 20 that hurts my ears and a Supro Sahara on the way. Something in the circuitry of the Peavey bothers my ears...

If the SV was stolen I would get another one, for sure.

The SV is as close as you can get to the music of my heroes. It is big though, so you may want to run it outboard from your pedal board, or do some space planning.

Mojo Vibe is close competitor and has a Rock Star roster, but...
The RTZ Vibe Zilla is probably a contender, but...

Bought it from GuitarX in Colorado and they are amazing people. You should have seen the care they put into packing the box they shipped my SV in!

This thing is supposed to be an exact clone of a 60's univibe and although I never owned a 60's univibe, this unit pretty much nails every univibe tone I ever heard on recordings. A must have if you are doing Hendrix, Trower stuff. It has two modes, chorus which is the standard univibe sound, and vibrato which is like a trem but instead of volume modulation, it's modulation of pitch. It has a power switch, a mode selector switch, a speed knob (big knob) and a volume, and intensity knob. Mine is an early model and doesn't have the status led to show if the effect is engaged or disengaged, newer ones seem to have this feature.

I use the chorus side for Trower and Hendrix stuff and the Vibrato for Neil Young and SRV, it seems in a lot of reviews the vibrato effect was not raved about as much as the chorus effect, although more subtle, I think it's an awesome feature. I am playing a PRS Custom 22 w/Dragon I pups and a Tokai Strat copy with upgraded pups through a Teese RMC2 wah, Sixties Vibe, Addrock Geranium Fuzz, Addrock OL Yeller, Modified Boss MT-2 (Metalzone), Klon, Boss DD-3, Digitch IPS-33B Harmonizer into either/or a Fender Princeton Reverb II and Dr Z MAZ 18 Jr 2/10. and I am very happy with this set-up. There is no extraneous noise and with the sixties vibe in front of my fuzz it allows me to get a different fuzz tone when the unit is on and tha speed and intensity are turned down, like another reviewer had previously mentioned.

When I got the unit used, I had it for about 2 days and it quit on me. I called Mike Milcentic and he gave me ind=structions on how to ship it to Montreal.

Mike Milcentic I would say is one of those guys in the buisness that is straight up, no hassles, customer service orientated. I shipped my pedal to him, he fixed it the same day he got it and got it in the mail back to me, the trip back to me took a little longer than anticipated due to US Customs, but in about 14 days i got my pedal and have been enjoying it since. I would give Mike a 12 if it was possible.

I play Classic Rock, Blues, Progressive, and Country if it pays, I've been playing since the late sixties. The sixties vibe is the shit, If you are looking to emulate the sounds of Hendrix, Trower, and Neil Young the sixties vibe is a top choice for a Vibe,

Very simple- Intensity, Volume, Speed, On/Off.
Sounds terrific as soon as it's on.

Vintage style Fender Strats and Teles. Old school tube amps i.e.
Marshall Super Bass, Fender blackface combos, Fender Pro Jr.
Also use MJM Rocktavios and Germanium London Fuzz, Fulltone '70 pedal and Clyde wah (temporarily- will soon have MJM wah!).
Beautiful Univibe effect. Far more depth available than the other clones- I have actually backed some of the depth off via the internal trimpot (controls the brightness of the lamp that drives the circuit).
Band of Gypsys, Trower, Gilmour, Abbey Road ("Here comes The Sun King")
etc... Whatever univibe track you are listening to, you absolutely can get the vibe part in this box. Also gets good Organ/Leslie effect if you set it up that way. Evn the (pitch bend) Vibrato function is cool.
Sounds Great with all the other boxes mentioned, and I have found that if you put a fuzz after the 60's Vibe, (Vibe between Wah and Fuzz Face), the wah and fuzz will work great together while Vibe is on. If you don't want to hear the Vibe you can turn the intensity down and use it just to make these two work together. Other pedals I have tried this with ruined the fuzz sound, i.e. it got overly gain-y and would lost all the dynamics you get with a good fuzz, turn guitar volume down and it wouldn't clean up but rather got noisy w/ ugly ghost notes and buzz... NOT so w/ 60's vibe. This is of course not why I chose this pedal, but a cool bonus IMO.
This box is loaded with fabulous tones.

I have never had an issue with any of MJM's pedals. They are all hand made and contstructed as well as anything available.

Michael is totally accessable, patient and friendly. He has personally answered the phone every time i have called him in 5 years and from the first conversation I had with him up to present he has been nothing less than enthusiastic with his service. I have never met him in person, but would consider him a frirend purely on the basis of his treatment of me
and the help I have consistently recieved in my search for tones.

I have played in bands for 25 years. I have made my living playing music. I have never been satisfied with "close enough" when it comes to the sound/ performance of my tools. For me, MJM provides me with tools that do what I want BEYOND my expectations. The '60's Vibe does this every time I step on it. I have owned or auditioned: Dunlop Univibe and rotovibe, Voodoo Labs Micro-Vibe, FoxRox Provibe (I had the first prototype in '93- terrific pedal BTW), original Unicord Univibe, Sweet sound Ultravibe (had 3 of these at different times, all good and all different), Fulltone Deja vibe. The '60's vibe stays with me. I have had similar experience with fuzzes, wahs, etc... and there is a lot of great stuff out today, more and more all the time. But I have been happier with MJM effects than anything else for what I do.
I learned to play music by listening to Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles and Led Zeppelin etc... and when I want to go to those places, I am there. But I am not interested in spending my life trying to clone anyone. Those old school effects and amps will do lots of different things if you PLAY with them.

If you have ever used a univibe/clone before you won't have a problem with this unit. The speed knob is backwards, but it works actually better that way for me. I can adust easier with my foot that way.

I am currently using a vintage vox wah into 2 analogman modded sd-1's into the supervibe into an ibanez analog delay into a fender vibrolux with 2 jensen 10 inch alnico speakers. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about. I have had an original univibe and 2 fulltones. This unit is awesome! It doesn't cut my signal at all and it has a very sweet throbby sound. As close to an original that I have ever witnessed. As far as the vibrato, this is the first unit where I am actually going to use the vibrato. It sounds wacky but very cool. The chorus part is Hendrix/Trower/SRV/etc. heaven! Very acurate sounding.

I just purchased it, but my initial impression is good, it seems well built and quality components are used. I can't give a rating on this though.

The only ding I can give overall is that for almost 300 dollars, a power supply should be included. Besides that, I love this unit!

Not hard to use at all, but there wasn't very much to it. A real one trick pony. I had #22.
It had a switch for vibrato, chorus, a foot contollable speed and on off. True bypass.

It sounded ok. I am not comparing it against anything else in this review. I am judging it as an individual unit and am not biased one way or the other (like a good review should be). With that being said, it only sounds good at one setting. Volume MAX and intensity MAX. Even with the volume at full there is still a substantial volume drop off, and that sucks. If anything I want the same volume level or a slight boost. This doesn't fare well with me, as I hate this kind of shit. So in essense the volume control is a waste of time. The intensity was also a waste of time as it had to be set at max to even get a little out of it. I can see why a lot of reviewers here say it is transparent. That is because there ain't nothing here!!! The vibrato was weak and anemic at best--useless would be a better description. And it also sounded like crap with my tubescreamers before the unit. It would probably sound much better with two modded TS9's (keely and analogman) after the unit, but by the time I got around to doing that I had already boxed it back up and shipped it back for a refund. There is a speed control that does like absolutely nothing past 12 o'clock. It is also a waste of my time.
I tested the unit with a Fender Blackface '66 Vibrolux Reverb with NOS tubes and Vintage Jensen p10 speakers (and EVERYTHING sounds good thru this baby!). The chorus part of the vibe alone sounded great, but once again ONLY with the volume and intensity on max. Anything less sucked--which leads me to believe that there is no real reason to have a volume and an intensity knob on the unit in the first place.
The vibrato is a joke. Any good ol' Boss can do that better.
It really didn't sound great with my TS9 combo--which rendered the unit unworthy of my wonderful pedalbaord.
This whole thing sucked for 290 bucks PLUS I had to go run out and buy a fucking 18 volt adapter that now I will probably never use for anything else. So figure on a good 300 bucks for this puppy.

The unit was promptly shipped back to where I got it from. Like I said before I was judging this unit stand alone and not comparing it to any other univibe out there. As a univibe it does sound very good and very transparent (a little too transparent for me though). The vibrato is a waste of my time, as were most of the controls. I hated the volume drop off--It was like going from input one on a Fender amp to input two. I bought this unit only because of the strong review here, but I should have probably gone with the sweetsound. When I set out to buy a vibe, I did set out to get the best. Unfortunately this unit can't be the best because I like a unit that has a wide range of usable sounds throughout the entire travel of the controls. And honestly for 300 buckaroos I sincerely hope I can get this satsisfaction. These thoughts are only my opinion and not meant to be an attack against anybody or the manufacturer. It is my opinion and my opinion alone. It is my opinion that the design here does have some potential, but needs a little work to please a spoiled rotten little bastard like myself.

On/off switch, bypass switch, volume, intensity, chorus/vibrato switch and BIG speed knob. The usual for a Vibe, pretty straight forward.

The Sixties Vibe is the best sounding Vibe I've ever heard. You like Hendrix "Machine Gun?"....look no further, this is it! This IS THE REAL DEAL!!!! The tone is authentic, thick and juicy. It's got a great pulse, heartbeat like and it sounds amazing both clean & distorted. I love the blue pilot light and I got mine with a cool blue LED too. I play Strats most of the time and it gives me the real fat, juicy chorusy tone that I love. Very psychedelic, sounds like my guitar is from outer-space...ala Hendrix.

The speed knob goes counter-clockwise which is easier to dial in with your foot as well. Also, when you turn the knob, the speed GRADUALLY increases or decreases, not like some where it changes too quickly with a small turn. This is great because you can always find a nice sweet spot within the range of the desired knob setting(s).

Michael uses top of the line circuitry and photocells to insure the best tone possible. Make no mistake, this baby sounds incredible and is made with care. It is hard to imagine anything that could sound any better! I can't stop playing with it, it is very addictive and it sounds RIGHT!!

It didn't take me long to actually fall off my chair when I started to play through this treasure.

The Sixties Vibe now joins my Fulldrive 2, Octafuzz, MJM Ulysses Wah, Blues Devil and London Fuzz. They all sound perfect with the Sixties-Vibe.

Mine was made in a Silver Hammond box and built to perfection. The Sixties Vibe seems as though it would be incredibly reliable. It is as tough as nails. Of course, Michael stands behind all his work.

Michael Milcetic is the best in the business. I have talked to many of the top builders out there and Michael proves to be on the top of the list. He is extremely nice, helpful and there is no ego. He is all about making the the customer happy & satisfied. Michael answers e-mails promptly, will talk to you on the phone and will not rush you through the conversation. I play Blues and Hendrix with a SRV/Hendrix approach. I've been playing for 23 years. I'm certainly happy that I've started using effects from MJM. These pedals are the best sounding FX I've ever heard and they are built just right. I am happy that my quest for tone has been fulfilled by MJM, Michael Milcetic. He has helped me to sound better as a guitarist!

I am a former owner of a Fulltone Deja Vibe (older white one) and a Sweetsound Ultra Vibe. The Ultra Vibe was the last one I had previous to the Sixties Vibe. The Sixties Vibe is far superior to both of those Vibes IMHO. The both fall short to the Sixties Vibe. The Sixties Vibe has THE TONE period and works well in any application. I though that the Ultra Vibe was a bit thin sounding compared to this unit. It just did not do it for me.

From the first minute I fired up the Sixties Vibe, I knew this was the one! I will enjoy playing it and it will certainly inspire me to great heights!!

This effect delivers the goods right out of the box: on/off switch, bypass switch, volume, intensity, chorus/vibrato switch and last but not least the speed dial. Here is the deal: chorus vibrato switch in chorus position, volume and intensity full(maybe 3/4 on the intensity), speed dial at 12:00-1:00 o'clock position, distortion in front of univibe. Trower flows through your fingertips, no hype man, just the real deal. No manual, 5 year warranty though. Mike backs his stuff.

I use a Warmoth strat with the DG/SA pickup set into a Boss MT-2 then into the 60's Vibe into a pair of Fender Pro juniors. As with most modulation type effects the higher the gain the more noise you get, nothing that could not be eliminated through knob adjustment.
This effect sounds as good as it gets. The reviews you read here are not all hype, anyone who owns an MJM effect pedal will tell you they are spot on for quality and sound. You can get a wide range of sounds from this pedal. Trower, Hendrix, Gilmour, ???? it's all here. The chorus setting is what gives you the vibe tone. The speed and intensity knobs are the key adjusments in this area. Vibrato is useful as well just not as intense as the vibe you get from the chorus side of the pedal.

Built in a solid Hammond box. Knobs, switches, dials all appear top quality. Built for gigging. Too expensive for a back up.

Mike Milcetic is a pleasure to deal with, responsive and very accomodating. Delivery times are accurate. I'm sure he would repair the pedal if need be no problem at all.

I play a variety of music, experimental/ambient, is my favorite. This pedal fits into this category easily. It will cover all the styles of anyone who has used a Vibe in their music.
I have been playing a long enough to know what I like. I have a large arsenal of guitars, amps and effects. I would certainly buy this pedal again.
I could not believe my ears when I first plugged into this pedal. Dropping a chunk o'change on a new pedal going on reviews only is risky but this pedal came through in a big way. I especially like the various sounds you can get between adjusting the speed and intensity on the chorus setting. I read all I could about the Fulltones, Sweetsound and other vibes and settled on this one. I do not regret it one bit.
One thing I do wish it had, a minor detail but, I wish it had laser engraved or painted labels for the knobs and switches. It has sticker type labels.
This pedal certainly inspires and elevates my playing.
I waited for this pedal and the wait was well worth it.

This Univibe clone is presented in a big silver metal box and looks like it would maybe belong on the control panel of an old airplane. The controls are relatively simple and all the options of the original univibe are there with the exception of the speed control pedal (no input jack for it either) but note that the speed knob is certainly big enough and placed to allow the player to easily vary the vibe speed while playing.

The sound is tremendous. I own one of Mike's Blues Devil as well as one of his germanium powered London Fuzz and the quality of his products is consistently outstanding. In my opinion it is superior to Fulltone, especially in the Univibe category.
The Sixties Vibe has an amazing pulse to it and is definitely heartbeat-like as another review mentioned. Its phase is gorgeous with lots of subtelties in its rotations and it definitely envellops the sound of your fuzz and shoots it straight out onto Hendrix stratospheres. It also sounds great with clean rhythm playing.

I have hauled it to a few gigs and no problems so far.
With Mike though, if I did have a problem, I'm sure he would fix it free of charge and probably handle shipping as well.

Unfortunately I have not tried any other univibes but Fulltone's Deja 1 and 2 and I can tell you the sixties is far superior in quality and overall feel to both those. I also heard greatthings about the captain coconut and the sweetsound ultravibe but have not gotten the chance to try either.
Regardless, this pedal is definitely my LAST univibe as it sounds as good if not better than what I expected.

Chorus/Vibrato switch, Volume, Intensity, Speed. Volume + Intensity full clock wise and speed wherever. Couldn't be easier to use.

I've tried a couple of Univibe pedals before getting this one. I've never spent more than 3 weeks with any Univibe I had before. I've tried cheap, used, new, expensive, mono, stereo units... and no more than 3 weeks after I returned or sold them again.
There are 3 months that I have the Sixties Vibe. And I don't plan to sell it. Not now... I hope never!
I've been trying to get a fat, full, thick univibe sound that wouldn't sound like a digital chorus with more depth.
With single coil pickups this unit gives you a instant fatness. The tone it gives to strats or teles is simple unbelievable!!!! And it doesn't matter if you're using it with combos, stacks, open or closed back cabs. Just turn it on and you'll feel the low end getting low and the high end shining!!!!
And, considering that this is a new unit, it doesn't give you the impression that you're using a fancy deep chorus, but the impression that you're back to the past... playing a raw, fat, organic, full univibe effect.
And there is something that I cannot explain well, but the phasing on this pedal has is not 100% even(like a fancy chorus), and I know that it sounds stupid, but the best match to this univibe oscillation is a heartbeat. Yes, it doesn't sounds like a even phase oscillation. It pumps the swirl through the amp in a way that still hard for me to describe.
It's pure SRV when used with the Blues Devil, pure Hendrix when used with the London Fuzz... and of yes, it is so thick as Gilmour Univibe sounds.
Is this univibe the best one in the world? I can't answer this question. But I can tell you that I'd never played one so good as this one before, and definitively, this is the best one for me!!!!

Never had problems with any MJM pedals. They're built like tanks!!!

I spent 1 month waiting for this unit. Probably I'll spend a lifetime using it. So, the waiting time worth it!!! If stolen? It will take 5 minutes to order another one.

use in front of distortion.using in conjuction with "67" vox clyde mccoy wah. true-bypass. absolutely nails trower, univox univibe sound. settings need to be: VOL-MAX, INTENSITY-MAX, SPEED-BETWEEN 4:00 AND 11:00, ON CHORUS SETTING. only one type of sound available but it is the best available univibe clone to date
