There's no doubt this is a metal pedal to it's core. Don't expect anything less. Don't expect mild overdrive even at minimal settings. This thing is build to rip your face off - but in a "pleasant" way - if that makes sense. Very easy to use. Large clearly labeled knobs.
The knobs are far enough from the stomp button so you won't accidentally hit them with a stomp.
Note: there is an amp sim option built in too - I haven't tried that - but cool feature if you sometimes practice just running straight into a PA.

I tested this running with humbucker on Yamaha guitar through a Blackheart Little Giant head into a Marshall 4x10 cabinet. Pedal is quiet plugged into 1-spot daisy chained power supply.
Standing out in front of the amp I feel the feedback and harmonics wanting to jump out of my guitar at every opportunity. I'm not a metal guy, but this is an inspiring pedal. It's vicious, but it doesn't sound "fake". It's got a very cool smooth rawness about it. I find alot of metal to sound sterile, but this pedal doesn't have that quality at all. It sounds alive.
I bought this pedal in a bundle of pedals including Moen's Holy Choir chorus and Moen's Pretty Dolly delay, and since I'm more of a classic rock guy I was planning on selling the Violent metal pedal, but am going to hang on to it as it has a thing about it that I find inspiring. It's got far far more gain than is needed for most rock. It's HEAVY. I find this a very nice pedal for thick metal riffs and I'm barely turning the distortion up.

I really don't know about reliability, but these are built ruggedly. I'll give a 9 because it feels solid and built to last. Quality components, solid knobs and jacks. I want to reward MOEN with a good score here because I can tell from the quality of all 3 pedals that they care about what they build.

I like their website - but haven't dealt directly with them.

I'm primarily a songwriter - I'm not a metal guy - and didn't expect to keep this pedal as mentioned above. But it's got some nice mojo for heavy riffing. This pedal has a nice energy about it and I'll engage it when working on some heavier song ideas. Been playing for a long time - 30yrs. Been in search of different tones recently for home practice, playing small tube amp heads like Blackstar HT-5H head, Blackheart Little Giant head, Marshall 4x10 cab, Avatar 2x12 cab w/ Texas heats, 2x12 cab with Eminence Legends. For a long time I played through a Rocktron Voodu Valve multi effects unit, and am just now getting into some pedals after playing straight into amps for a while. Have a Fulltone OCD for lower gain stuff, or just just use the natural gain the small amps gives me.

SIMPLE TO USE WITH KNOBS FOR LOW , MID , MID SWEEP , AND HIGH EQ AS WELL AS GAIN AND LEVEL CONTROLS.

THE RANGE OF ADJUSTMENT AVAILABLE IN THE EQ OF THIS PEDAL IS EXTREME TO SAY THE LEAST.THE SWEEP OF THE MID FREQUENCY KNOB AT EITHER END GETS INTO THE LOWS OR HIGHS , MAKING IT EASY TO NOTCH OUT AND BOOST OR CUT A NARROW BAND .I PLAY A LES PAUL AS WELL AS AN ESP , BOTH WITH PASSIVE PICKUPS AND THIS BOX LETS THE CHARACTER OF EACH INSTRUMENT SHINE THROUGH.THE DISTORTION IS THICK AND HEAVY BUT SOMEHOW ORGANIC AND VERY SMOOTH TO PLAY THROUGH. I HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR 20 PLUS YEARS AND HAVE GONE THROUGH MORE GEAR THAN I CARE TO SPEAK OF , AND THIS UNIT HAS THAT X FACTOR THAT OTHER DISTORTIONS HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GIVE ME.

I PLAY ALONG MANY DIFFERENT STYLES FROM BLUES TO IN YOUR FACE METAL AND BACK.THIS UNIT IS PURPOSE BUILT FOR IN YOUR FACE METAL TONE AND THATS ALL.GREAT FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE OF THICK UNRELENTING DISTORTION. I DID NOT MENTION EARLIER BUT THIS DISTORTION RUNS WITH ALMOST NO AUDIBLE BACKGROUND NOISE. AMAZING FOR SUCH A HIGH GAIN DEVICE.

I had this pedal up and running in no time. It's all self explanatory and very easy to use.

I'm running this through a Marshall TSL602. The guitar I use is an SG. This pedal only becomes slightly noisy if you turn everything up to maximum.
Well... what can I say abiut the sound? F**k me! This is just the best distortion I've heard through my amp. Believe me I've owned a lot of distortion pedals. A lot of them a damn sight more expensive. This is just amazing with lots of headroom as the other reviewer said. He's not wrong! The sustain and harmonics are beautiful. The whole sound is really pleasing to the ear. So far I've found setiing the bass to max and the mid and treble to midway on the pedal produces a fantastic heavy sound. You won't need to turn distortion knob all the way up!

This is solidly built and I'm well impressed with the finish. It looks very professional. The knobs are of a good quality too. Check out the battery compartment on the underside. Fits flush and has a dial screw. No sharp edges or dodgy paintwork here!
This'll last on the gigging circuit.

Not had to deal with them yet. I'm going to email them and congratulate them though. This is quality stuff.
Still give them a nine as they obviously care about what they're making and selling.

I play alternative rock and a touch of metal. Been playing a longtime and have tried out and owned tons of pedals. It's rare that I'm bowled over with a pedal. It's worth every penny! This just stopped me dead in my tracks.
Goodbye Boss, goodbye Electroharmonix, goodbye MXR etc... This lot have crept in and shown up your over priced pedals for what they are!

You can be slammin' right away with this. Comes with a manual but not required.

This is a beast from the first chord. Has three knobs of EQ,and a Level, Freq, and Dist Knob. This pedal has tons of headroom and can vary in the sounds produced. You can get a mighty crunch with this. I know it's real when you can feel some air move and this one will move it. I'm sure it depends on what amp you use ect. but for the average player looking for a big sound, you can get it with the Violent Metal. It can be just a little noisy with everything turned up but it doesn't need to be pushed that hard to produce. Also you have to find the right wall wart if going that route as they are a little touchy in the frequency area if introduced to the wrong one. I keep a good 9V in it and that works great. This can also go direct out to the board for recording or live work if necessary so that's an added plus alot of pedals don't offer. There is an amp on/off button on the side for this purpose. When using as just an effect to amp, you can kick this in as a pre-amp, which will further boost the sound. This one will take you on a ride.

No problems thus far.Built in full metal housing, no whimpy plastic here. Heavy too, can't kick them around. If you don't bring along a backup something though, you simply aren't taken the necessary precautions.

These are hard to find but worth it for the price I paid. I think the company will become more available as these become a little more known. I have spoken to them via e-mail and have gotten a quick response back w/ thanks. I have since purchased almost the whole line of Moen effects.

This pedal is great for the arena it plays in. I'm not playing in this super crunch mode all night long, but it does make you want to.
Get some pretty guttural sounds with this. Highly recommened for all as the Moen effects are priced very reasonably and their whole effects line sounds simply better than others in their price range. Love it.
