Easy of use is great on this pedal...Lots of versatility: from very subtle effect to a very intense jet under water sound. My learning curve on it was probably quicker than other people, since I work at a music store and a big part of my job is trying out inventory when it comes in and figuring out the best sounds for equipment. Plus I owned a vintage M-117 Flanger (EVH's is based on that model), so I already knew where I liked the knobs to be set at.
Like any pedal, especially ones that are of a modulation nature - you just need to take your time, become knowledgable of each control knobs and it's purpose...then start twisting 'em.

My current setup is:
Modded Fender Am. Std Strat with SCN pickups --->(pedalboard) Dunlop 535Q Wah, MXR EVH Flanger, MXR Dyna Comp, TS-9 Tubescreamer, Fulltone OCD, Boss DD-5 Delay, Korg DT-10 --->(Amp)1970 Fender Super Reverb (hot rodded & blackfaced)
Extremely low noise for a modulation effect. I am a big lifelong EVH fan but am in no way trying to "clone" him...I've always been impressed by his tone and sounds, and MXR/Dunlop have always delivered quality products. Don't get me wrong the first riffs I played with the flanger were "Hear About it Later" & "Unchained" - but it works great to add atmosphere and great "colors" to any song.
Plain & simply put: the pedal completely delivers for me

Reliabilty is outstanding...MXR makes amazing pedals. Sure sometimes they may look outdated with the large knobs and basic pedal housings...But any MXR pedal I've had I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for the knobs being on top of the pedal; I'd be willing to bet I could drive my GMC 1500 Z71 over it and still take it to the gig that night.
I do use it without a backup --- It's not like an overdrive pedal that is used every song, so if for some reason it failed to operate I'd still be capable of finishing the night. Granted I'd be majorly upset I couldn't use it, but I'd live.
I have no worries that this pedal could outlive me!

Dunlop is a fantastic company to deal with. I work for a local music store and deal with warranty claims, repairs, etc....Rarely have I ever had to contact Dunlop. Can't say I've ever actually had to send a pedal to them for repair!

I play a wide variety of music -- mostly rooted in the heavy blues and rock. I've been a guitarist for 14 years and performing live in clubs and concerts for 7 1/2 years.
If my EVH Flanger was ever stolen I WOULD be pissed! A: it cost me $200 bucks (w/ tax) & B: I wouldn't have one right away to put to work! I would absolutely replace it, like I said I once owned an original M-117 and kicked myself for selling it....and now that I have this EVH - it's like finding my old pedal all over again.
I love everything about it - even the 'EVH' button is cool...very noticeable difference in tone. It's odd that the EVH has a AC receptacle, my old M-117 had a hard wired cord. I like the fact it CAN run on battery power, eventhough its 2 9V's!! (it requires 18V). It has a great look with the Van Halen stripes, (Ed's white & black paintjob on "frankenstein" was always my favorite).
I honestly don't think it compares to any other flanger I've ever tried. Boss' is good, but not even close to touching. MXR seems like they're the only ones that really understood what frequencies to grab in creating the tone of what a flanger should sound like.
I chose this flanger above all others cause of its sound - it's exactly what I want in a flanging effect --- and it's tough for me to be completely bowled over happy with any musical gear. I rarely find anything stock off the showroom that I'm totally happy with.
I do wish it came with the power supply, but I'm not going to hold that against the pedal or MXR..I appreciate at least the ability to put batteries in it - that allowed me to use at a gig the evening I bought it.
I wouldn't say it necessarily helps me play music, but it definetely takes my ears to a new level..it added a lot of new colors to my tonal pallate. I just still have to find a spot for it on my pedalboard.
Buy this - don't settle - you won't be disappointed. Can't remember the last time I was so glad I spend $200 on a pedal - or anything gear-related!

If you have had a flanger before it is easy to use. If not, I think four knobs offer potential for frustration. Personally, I set mine @ 1200 across the board. Suits me. I can't remember what the manual said and I'm lazy that way :).

I am using this with several guitars (mainly '61 SG reissues). It is quiet when off. I haven't noticed any undue noise when engaged, but that's subjective. I use this effect with various effects (although usually not simultaneously). I'm running it into the front of Orange amps. I don't use the EVH setting. I was running a red 70's Ross flanger (a great flanger!) and decided that I needed to retire it. After much research I decided on this one. It is just as good as my red Ross and it's smaller! Be warned, it takes 18V to run this baby right. I have it hooked up to a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power Plus 2 with and cable that combines two 9V jacks to equal 18V (available from Voodoo Labs website). I don't use this to sound like anyone in particular. I play covers and sometimes a song just needs something. This pedal is that something. There aren't a lot of good, non-metallic sounding flangers out there. This one is warm and pushes my buttons. If you're looking, go buy this one. You won't be disappointed. I give it a 10 'cause I'm very happy with this pedal.

I do it all the time. A: I'm not rich, thus I can't carry around a spare $200.00 pedal for every pedal I use. B: You should really be able to play straight into your amp and pull it off. Reliable? I've had mine for about 8 months with no problems.

I'm in a cover band. I'm 35 and have been playing over 21 years. I would buy this pedal again. If it were stolen I hope that find out who it was so I could kill them, their friends, their dog, and burn their house down. I hate a thief.

Easy to get a good sound. Simple controls and of course one button Van Halen in a box.

As for the EVH sound....if your an EVH wannabe...then it nails it....nails it quite well actually. But unlike most "signature sound" pedals out there....this pedal can do more than "signature Sound". Very clean sounding Flanger. Works well with Humbuckers and Single Coils. Distortion pedals work great with it. Doesn't get that metallic bell tone like most Flangers get when pushed hard.

I play Blues,Rock and SOul/Funk and yes "back in tha day" I did the V-Halen "thing". Been playing since before the Memory Man was made(you do the math). Over all it is a Really GOOD Flanger. The only changes I would make is put the EVH switch in the form of an actual stomp switch. I could use this as an on the fly dual sound Flange on stage.....oh sorry that would be Tooo logical. The graphics are cool and when people see the board they know instantly YOU can do the "EVH Tap Technique". Combine it with the EVH Phaser and watch out for them panties and bras from the audience......seriously its a good Flanger, well made....buy it.

If you want the "Unchained" sound? You have it with the button engaged. It's also the exact same sound used on Aint Talkin bout Love... I tried to duplicate that sound with the EVH button off, and it took a while, but I did get it! For some weird reason I was determined to see if I could do that. You can spend a fair amount of time with the four knobs, but they all do what they are supposed to do. It's as easy as any flanger.

Yes, I can get the Van Halen sound if I want. It's a great sounding Flanger! I run it into the front end of a Mesa Rectifier. It seems that the level is better there. It sounds great through the effects loop too, but I get a drop in volume... If I was recording with distortion, I'd probably record with it through the loop. It's not noisy in either situation. Guitar- Deja vibe- EVH phase 90- EVH Flanger- Fulltone Fat-boost to the Amp. Effect Loop send into Korg tuner out to input of Rocktron Intellifex, out of Rocktron L and R to a Mesa 2/90 power amp. To power two Rectifier 4/12 cabs for my wet mix. A 2/12 Rectifier cab into my head for the dry sound.

I have not had a problem yet. It's been maybe a year. I have a good feeling it's not going to give me any problems either. I will depend on it and I use it at gigs. I don't need a back up.

I play all kinds of music. It's a great flanger, I got what I was looking for. At the moment I own a bunch of Boogies. Single, Dual, Triple, MKIII 2/90, 2/95 Studio pre. Bunch of Boss pedals, couple fulltones, I could go on and on.....None of this matters. The flanger is great. If you want a really good flanger buy one of these when you can, you'll be happy. The EVH phase 90 is very good too!

Four knobs for Manual, Width, Speed, and Regeneration, just like the original and reissue, and a special secret sauce EVH Switch for his personal 'Unchained' settings. You could spend days tweaking it. I won't say that doesn't make it less easy to use, it just takes more time to get the sound you want. Heck, with all controls at 12:00, it's sounds very good. Max the Regen and your in swoosh-villes. Manual is concise, explaining what the function is of each control, and how they affect the other controls too.

Well, let's start with this with the EVH Switch activated. Well, I consider myself a rather large VH fan, I've heard, studied, and played 'Unchained' enough to think I'd know if this sounded like it or not. It does. Wonderful, warm flanger sound. Drop D and chug away at the riff with this, you won't be disappointed. Now, with the EVH Switch out, you get your standard MXR Flanger. Tweak to your hearts desire. It's hard to get a bad sound out of this. The MXR (original, and IMO, reissue) is a great flanger. Always has been. With the EVH Switch, you can set up 2 different flanger settings. It's tricky engaging the EVH Switch with your foot, but it can be done. It's just a great sounding flanger.

It's MXR, so the enclosure is indestructible. Some people are turned off by the circuit mounted switches, knobs, jacks, etc, but I don't think this people is going to go south on me anytime soon. MXR pedals stand the test of stomp.

I won't give anything a 10. There's no such thing in my book. But, this flanger is just great. It's a little overpriced, but I bought mine used and got a good deal. I don't plan to get rid of it anytime soon. It's definitely staying on my board. At first I was leery of having a pedal with the 'Fan-Boi' graphics, but I looked at it and said 'to hell with it'. It looks good. I may just get the EVH Phase 90 to sit next to it. If you like the MXR flanger, you'll love this one. I've had all 3 incarnations of this flanger now, and this one is my favorite. The original one I had sounded fantastic, but I think the electronics were just too aged. It didn't quite sound right with my rig. This one does.
