I have a gibson gothic explorer that is stock except for replacing the old 250k pots for 500k pots. Then comes my RMC Picture Wah, the phaser and sometimes if I feel technical and complicated, I throw in a Boss OC3 and A Danelelectro chorus. Not noisy at all, the only thing noticable is the sweep going when not playing and it does add a lil boost, but that's a good thing for what I do, I can't stand pedals that you step on and you can't tell if they are on or not! The effect is just great, It sounds really good for VH1 stuff and great for funky stuff, clean passages get so pretty with it, it makes me shiver! When I max the rate it sounds like a roto-vibe, only better and warmer! I can get a lot of diff sounds out of it and it really only has one knob!

Ive had this for over a year now and just wanted to make sure I really loved it before ravin about it. I have been playing for 5-7 years depending on what you call playing! I play swamp metal if that makes sense! Kinda like skynard meets metallica with a lil flare from VH. I like my rig simple and like to use my hands and stuff. This pedal is a great tool for what I do, it did spark an interest in other effects, but evertime I try them, I am disapointed, nothing sticks with me like this and my Wah. I am the most fickle person I know when it comes to gear, I am always changing crap and this with my wha are the only constants! If it were stolen I would skin the bastard and roll him in salt. I just love everything about it, it's beautiful. It does give me ideas, infact I wrote a whole song around it when I was dickin around with it while maxed out. BUY ONE!

The EVH Phase 90 is one of the easiest phase shifters to use. One knob for rate/speed and one button to select either the script mode (mellower) or block mode (a little more intense).

EXCELLENT I use this with bass. Fender bass -EBS Muticomp-EBS Octave-EBS IQ - EVH Phase 90-Demeter Tremulator-Eden amps-Eden/Mesa Boogie cabs. This phaser is so smooth at both settings. It blends excellent with both the basses and the other effects I use. What really makes this pedal shine is that it doesn't have any annoying volume drops or increases or any obvious frequency surges/peaks. I had one of the recent orange Phase 90s but it had a volume boost and an annoying harshness/surge in the mid frequencies and would magnify that when used with other effects. I also own a Dod 490 phase, it's not bad, has a little more adjustment but is slighty a little muddy in the bass area, not as smooth as the EVH. I also owned a Russian EH Smallstone...I'm sorry but the Smallstone is noisy and has a major volume loss and really overtakes your original sound. The EVH is great for funk/slap bass just set a speed and play your bass line in time with the phase sweep. I also own a Dod 201 Phase it's a differnt beast more of a watery vibe has a weaker phase sweep better as a vibrato. I also owned a Boss Phase the original green issue PH 1 ?...thought it sounded too mechanical.

Like I said I use this on bass. It is very difficult to find effects that work easily with bass. This is one of my all time favorites for bass and I've tried/owned a ton of effects. The best phase shifter I've played and I have no desire to try any others which is rare for me. Instant liquid funk, great for setting grooves if you are into that style. This will not leave my pedalboard. A little pricey because they put EVH and that stupid paint job (sorry Eddie fans) on it...guess it helps to sell pedals and Dunlop probably wouldn't have built it...I'm giving it a 9 ownly because it should be cheaper.

I REALLY LIKE THIS PEDAL ALOT, THE GEAR I USE IS INCONSEQUENTIAL SO, I WON'T GET INTO IT. ANYWAY..THIS UNIT SOUNDS GREAT. IT HAS A REAL NICE NATURAL SOUNDING SWEEP TO IT. IT DEFINETLY ENHANCES MY SOUND.THE SCRIPT MODE AT THE 9 O'CLOCK SETTING IS THE SAME SETTING AS EDDIE'S ON VH1.IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE IT . IT ALSO REPLICATES THE SOUNDS ON THE OLD RUSH, PINK FLOYD STUFF VERY WELL. IT DOES ADD JUST A LITTLE NOISE BUT NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED OVER. THE BLOCK MODE HAS A STRONGER INTENSITY TO THE SWEEP WHICH I LIKE AND , USE OFTEN. SCRIPT MODE IS MY FAVORITE THOUGH. IT ALSO HAS A BLINDING BLUE LED ON IT ( YOU CAN PROBABLY USE IT AS A FLASHLIGHT IF YOU NEED TO ) A VERY GOOD EFFECT

This is great sounding...I love it set at just below 9-o'clock setting with script mode on or just above 9-'clock with block mode on. Script mode is a little more subtle, and I personally favor it. Block mode is more vocal and in your face. I use a Floyd Rose DST-3 into this, then into a Dunlop Crybaby, then into a Randall RG100SC/G2 amp (great amp) and it sounds good. Great clean if in script mode with rate set way slow.

Simple to use, just plug in and with a 9V or adapter you can start using this pedal. It comes with a manual that gives sample settings for the early EVH sound, its very short and to the point. What makes this pedal even simpler thus easier to use is the one knob to adjust the rate of the phase shift.

Ok I'm doing this review just for the sake of giving my opinion on this pedal, given that I already returned it like 3 weeks ago. What I use with this pedal is my typical setup MIM Strat with Seymour Duncan PU's (SSL 1 vintage 50's single coils, with a slightly hotter bridge pu) into a Crybaby 535Q (with the 16db boost ON) into a PRoCo vintage reissue RAt into a reissue MXR phase 90 into a Ibanez DE7 delay into either a Marshall micro amp (1/2 watt?) or a Fender Blues Jr.
From what I remember doing my comparison between the EVH and the reissue MXr Phase 90 are a couple of factors:
1) the EVH phase 90 was in both settings (ie. Script and modern) compared to the reissue Phase 90 more mellow, and not as in your face
2) the EVH phase sounded like it tightened up the distortion coming from the RAT a considerable bit making it sound a bit more compressed, whereas the P90 lets the distortion come out a bit more. This might be due simply to the fact that the gain in this unit is more close to unity (meaing not adding extra volume) compare to the P90.
3) In both the script and modern modes playing with the Rat (keep in mind with a 16 db boost behind it coming from the 535 Q wah, the EVH phasing is not as in your face, keep in mind that it sounds alot like Eddies (of EVH) script MXR phase 90 though, in that it has a sort of chewy character to its phase sweep (hard to describe more technically). Put it another way, it sounds more mellow but has this vocal quality when playing lead lines. Listen to one of his old songs 'Big Trouble' during the solo section, the EVH sounds close along those lines even with my not so Plexi setup.
4) Now for clean setting comparison: the EVH I thought didnt do it for me compared to the reissue p90. Here, the EVH sounds very nice just like the p90 reissue (given that you removed the r28) but I found it to have a different character than my P90. This is where i started to see the differences (when playing clean). The vocal quality of the EVH makes it sound like the stuff that you hear on his records which is what the pedal is meant for, but it was that same vocal quality that made me keep my P90 and return the EVH. I tried playing Hendrix at Woodstock type univibe settings on both pedals (dialed around 12 or 1 o'clock) and thought to myself that the reissue P90 can get these funny univibe type sounds, I didn't think the EVH sounded AS good for the univibe type stuff, it was simply more 'chewy' sounding (more vocal type sweep if you will).
So All in All, I think the EVH phase is perfect if you want to get somewhere close to the lines of his early sounds, of course everyone has different setups but it'll get you nice and close to that sound. As for the noise of the unit, I don't even play anywhere close to live levels (just play in the apt.) so noise was not an issue at all. I've never tried an vintage MXR script pedal from the mid 70's so cant say if this pedal fairly/exactly recreates that sound.

Havent kept it long enough, had it for like 3-4 days doing listening tests between the EVH and the reissue Phase 90. It was just as solid as the reissue P90, but had a nice paint job, doesnt chip like the typical MXR phase 90's orange peel.

Keeping in mind that I started out learning Hendrix stuff, that went well with my Fender Blues Jr amp. But the Van Halen stuff that I got into within this last year is in the realm of Marshall type power tube overdrive and 8.5 K humbucking bridge pu's (like the Seymour Duncan custom shop EVH PU), so my setup are single coils and through the 16db boost and the RAT pedal it sounds alot different that the sound that EVH was getting early in his days. Although that is my case, and my setup, when using it with the EVH phase pedal it gets close to those early VH 1 sounds because my signals' being put through the phase shift which compresses and normalizes the tone a bit. So even though I dont have that VH1 type sound to begin with I think that most ppl out there with some kind of overdrive pedal as a boost into a decent tube amp(even solid state, I use my marshall mini) can like what they hear from the EVH phase 90. I just personally thought that it didnt get enough univiby for my tastes. That being said, overall this pedal gets a 9 for what it's designed for getting close to that script phase sound of the MXR in the 70's. My bit of advice is to try getting the pedals you want to compare at the same time and then do your listening tests, and return the other. My reissue is just fine, although i did remove r28, c11, and c12, making it more to my liking without the wierd midrange boost sounds.

The knob determines the phase rate. The "script" switch allows you to change from a "regular" phase 90 sound (although it sounds better) to the "script" mode which is supposed to recreate the sound of the original phase 90's from the 70's.

As of now, the EVH Phase 90 is the best sounding phaser I've used (not that I've used many: regular phase 90, R-28 modded phase 90, Boss PH-1). I use it with Peavey Wolfgangs and a Line 6 DuoVerb combo. It does add a very slight amount of noise to the signal when bypassed - not enough to worry about since most pedals do. It's not as trebly sounding as the regular Phase 90, even in the "regular" mode. On clean settings there is no noticeable noise to your sound. However, on distorted settings the pedal is fairly noisy but you won't notice if you're playing. It has a nice mild phase to it. Here's my usual setting: first, I rolled back on the internal trim pot just a tad counter-clockwise to reduce the depth of the phase. I keep it in script mode and set the knob at about 9 o'clock (exactly where the white and black stripes intersect).

I have this in the effects loop of my IBANEZ 100WATT Solid State head. I have this unit setup along with a BOSS Chorus and IBANEZ and a BOSS Compression pedal. It does drop the volume a bit but I love the tone, especially with EVH setting (Script Button engaged and knob at 9 o'clock). Adds warmth to any distorted voicing. I use a BOSS Metal Zone, Boss DS1 and the distortion from the amp. WOW..!!!
I play a lot of classic rock and some blues and metal and this pedal works great. I don't want to sound like VH and think I use this pedal to bring out some interesting charateristics in my playing which defines my tone and style.

Set is as follows EVH Wolfgang guitar > Tubescreamer ( mod by Analogman)> Mxr Evh phase 90>Boss Noise Suppresor> Boss Tremolo ( modified by analogman)> Boss Ch1 chorus> to Mesa Boogie dual rectifier . Have Boss DD20 delay pedal in the effects loop.
Here's my gripe : When used in my FX loop the MXR EVH kills my volume and is not usable. When not used in the effects loops the pedal makes a consistant and unacceptable popping sound that corresponds with the " sweep" of the pedal. The pedal sounds great but the popping sound has caused me to put my old MXR Phase 90 pedal back on my pedal board. I have not read about anyone else having this problem so I am wondering if it is a power supply issue . I have tried moving the pedal on my board with no better results.
I love the tone that this pedal offers. It is "the" sound. However, for myself I have to knock the pedal because it is unusable either via volume degradation in the fx loop or by the odd "popping" sound it makes in front of the amp.

I have to say again that I love the tone you get when using this pedal. It is the best phaser I have used. I would not buy another one unless I knew the incidental sounds were not going to occur.
Try this pedal out in your rig ( or similar) before you buy it. The tone will suck you in but the noises will make you toss it in your box of " where are they now" pedals that you have not plugged into for 2 years.

Setup is a breeze.
Noise is non-existent.
The effect level is changeable by the script button. Push it in and that's the sound of the old "Script logo" MXR Phase 90 (LESS intense....yes, you read that right), which was one of EVH's secret tone weapons back in the day. (Listen to the 1st album...it's all over those tracks.)

Just got it, but the only thing that irritates me is that they have to *receive* the warranty card within 14 days of purchase. Not cool guys. Change this policy so the customer has 30 days from purchase to MAIL it.
I forgot to send mine right away, and it's been 2 weeks since I bought it. So am I screwed now? Hopefully not! For this reason, I'm giving them a 5. If it were lost or stolen, I'd replace it with exactly the same thing because NOTHING sounds this good....not even close!
I love everything & hate nothing...except the warranty card nonsense.
Yeah, I've tried other phasers, but to me they all sound like crap compared to this.
It's got everything it needs. It gives you the old EVH/MXR script logo sound...BUT WITH INCREASED HEADROOM...WOOHOO! RIGHT ON MXR!
It TOTALLY helps me make music...VERY INSPIRING! Plus, the "Blinding Blue" light ROCKS! HAHA
Set your guitar to the bridge pickup, dial in some good crunch on your amp, add a good amount of reverb. Now, on the EVH 90, push in the script button, set the dial to 9 O'Clock, turn it on, and WELCOME TO VAN HALEN HEAVEN!
NOW THEN, YOU MXR GUYS, WHEN ARE YOU GONNA DO AN EVH FLANGER....YOU KNOW, THE ONE WITH THE CHIP EDDIE USED THAT'S NOT BEING MADE ANYMORE. PLEASE MAKE IT....WE'LL BUY 'EM!
I see some people here complaining about the price of the EVH 90. I think that's ridiculous! Nothing else does this tone, to get an old one, it'll set you back at least $200, and the old one has a lot less headroom to boot! THIS PRODUCT IS A GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY! (
I'd give it a 10, but because of the warranty silliness, I drop it to a 9.)

I use it in front of a Hiwatt Custom 100 in script mode. Setup PRS Custom 22->Vox V847->OC-2->Keeley Comp->EVH Phase 90->Keeley TS-9->Analogman BD-2->Keeley DS-1 SEM->TU-2->Hiwatt.
Best phaser I've tried (I haven't used an original script 90). It will dip your mids out a bit and the bass will be a little tubby on the low end of the sweep, but that's part of the tone. 3 o'clock gives a great warm warble that sounds beautiful on single note stuff. 9 o'clock with a good distortion (and amp) will nail the Van Halen tone. It's the perfect subtle effect for soloing because it'll poke out notes on the top of the sweep just like a subtle wah effect.
One odd thing though, I hooked it up through the loop on the Hiwatt and it sounded horrible, big drop in volume and roll-off of high frequencies. I'll chalk that up to an impedance mismatch. I had a tube-buffered loop installed on my Hiwatt cause they just didn't do that in 1977 and I think there's just a mismatch there. All my other effects sound great through the loop though (Supa-Trem->ChoralFlange->DC-2->DD-5->GE-7).
It will also add some hiss when engaged, but sounds pretty good when off (not true bypass).

I use it with a Mesa Studio Pre/Simul 2:90 power amp, and about 16 pedals, including a Radial Tonebone Classic for distortion. The EVH 90 sounds very liquid and organic! Combined with delay, and it projects a very emotive quality, whether clean or distortion. The tone is very thick and rich - so far I like the "Block" setting, as it seems more aggresive, but the "Script" mode has more of a mellow phasing - but it's fantastic! In Bypass mode the pedal does NOT affect your tone at all. In all, this the BEST phase pedal out there! Forget the "vintage" Phase 90's - this pedal is the BOMB!

With a couple delay pedals and a chorus in the loop.) This pedal gives you a great phase sound. I use it for mostly incubus and Van Halen covers it flat out rocks. I was very skepticle when I brought it home and once I messed around with it I couldnt believe that the Hype was real and this thing delivers. I didnt bother to compare this to anything else out there, my ears have a problem with boss pedals so I didnt even bother messing with theirs even though my boy Einziger uses them. Go out and try one of these if you can find it. You will not be disappointed.

This thing sounds just great. The "bypass" does not noticably color the sound. The effect sounds in all settings are very nice. I can't compare it to an old Phase90 but it sounds certainly better than the regular new Phase90.
Sounds between Hendrix, Floyd and of course EVH are in the range of this little thing.

I probably got one with a bad switch or lose wire. It went in and out after only a week.
It looks sturdy otherwise and I am sure that my new one will live a long time.

If you want a good phaser sound, get this one. It sounds way better than the phaser pedal simulation in my expensive effects processor that I otherwise prefer over pedals. But certain things will only work analog. The open, airy phasing of this unit is among those.

Well it doesnt get much easier than this, one knob, one button, and a footswitch. I use it in this order Boss TU-2 tuner, Hiwatt wah, custom made (by me) volume box, Pharaoh Class A Boost, Ibanez Tube King (loaded with an original Mullard), Modded Boss CE-2 chorus (run in the loop of my true bypass box that I made), Electro Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress, MXR EVH Phase 90, Boss DD5 delay with Boss FS-5Utap tempo switch, all of this madness is powered by a Visual One Spot and a custom power distribution that I made.

Here is the stuff man, killer liquid tone in eaither position, I prefer the script mode and man is it sweet. Clean or dirty it works without issue. From slow swoosh to fast leslie type madness its sweet. As for the bypass issue, take the battery out and plug it into your chain. The signal still passes, Ive never encoutered a non-true byapss pedal that did that. No tone loss as all, and Im a true byass nut.

i use this pedal in my crate 120 with my prs guitars. with a little reverb and a subtle rhythm distortion, this pedal in script mode is like sex for your ears. throw it into the heavy distortion and you definitely can feel the Eddie coming out in you. sounds great with delay and even the boss super phase shifter when you have it in step mode.

You can either run this pedal in Script mode, which is why most people will probably buy this unit, or in standard block mode. Besides that option you just dial in the amount of phasing you want. Totally easy to use.

I run this pedal in line in the following configuration:
Marshall > Line 6 POD XT Live > Line 6 DL4 > EVH Phase 90 > Ernie Ball Axis Super Sport
I have gigged with the EVH Phase 90 and it is extremely reliable. There is no annoying popping or signal dropoff at high volumes. I tend to keep it in Script mode with the dial set at around 3 o'clock. This thing sounds so smooth! At around 12 o'clock you get a nice Leslie type effect and with a good clean sound the funk starts to drop! Of course, if your looking to add this in your Brown Sound arsenal there is no better pedal - it is THE sound that you're after.

My old Phase 90 is just as reliable as the day I bought it, and the build between it and the EVH model is about the same. On any given day you can see people selling 30 year old Phase 90s on eBay - I think these pedals are built to last.

I've been playing seriously for 17 years and have to cover a lot of styles. I use the EVH Phase 90 in a rock band, contemporary worship band, and various ensembles - all very different styles of music. This pedal just sings. I would definitely buy another if anything ever happened to it.
I do think this pedal is overpriced, but the Ed mojo makes it worth it I think. The striping is really cool and the blue light is blinding - really cool looking when the lights go out. But the real selling point is having both the script and block modes to choose from. Perfect for the discriminating phase connoisseur. Four stars; great job EVH and Dunlop!

wonderful. A/B'd this with a standard phase 90, small stone. I have an original script from the 70's and don't bother this puppy does the script sound verbatim. even out of script mode it sound a lot nicer than the regular 90, and actually closer in tone to the small stone, but with more cut and clarity. no drop in volume, but not much quieter than the standard phase 90. still does that pulsing lfo sound

Strat SSH> Homebrew CPR> LovePedal Eternity> Keeley Fuzz Head> Boss CE2> Zvex Super Duper> Dano PB&J> Dano Tuna Melt> EVH Phase 90> Modded Fender DRRI.
I spent the last two weeks shopping for a phaser... I tried them ALL.. This is the most beautiful, warm, musical phaser out there, hands down. The Script mode is the real deal, dripping with vintage mojo. No volume drop problems, no annoying frequency squelches, no tone suckage, just creamy, smooth, delicious phasing.

I am using a TSL 100: great amp. Works great on all three channels. If you want Eddie's sound; this is it. An ultimate phaser effect for classic rock or funky chordal interludes. Good for Rush, Stones, Zepp, Doobies Brothers, etc. Leslie effect is great for Trower and Hendrix: Probably the best leslie effect I've ever heard come from a pedal.

This may be the only time delay effect I will need for a while. The clean with this effect is absolutely beautiful; Mixes well with dirty channels as well. It there was a modification, I would put an intensity control on it. Going straight into my Marshall, the effect is very prominant; I compensate by running through the effects loop of my Marshall which has level controls. For some, this may not be a problem because it sounds great either way. I just like to keep the line to my preamp as clean as possible. Anyway, Kudo's to Eddie and MXR for making a product I know I will treasure for years and years. I highly recommended this pedal.

Sounds great in front of my 5150. I also have a regular Phase 90, and this one seems a bit quieter in my opinion. I'm still learning how to use it for that VH "Eruption" sound, but thats due to my lack of knowledge on how to color my sound with a Phaser. Sounds great though!!!!!!

I have an original MXR script logo phaser from 1974, so I was lucky enough to be able to compare this side by side to what I consider the holy grail of phasers. I have been playing since the early 80's, but before Ebay, I could never find an original, and so I tried many different phasers - Dunlop, Boss, Ibanez, Danelectro, rack-mounted multieffects, etc. Finally I pulled the trigger on an original MXR script logo from Ebay. Ahh, the sound. But the thing is, it is battery powered only and it has 30 year old parts in it, including a 30 year old switch that pops sometimes. It's hard for me to be comfortable with a battery powered pedal. I end up thinking it's just a little bit weaker each time I use it, or I forget to unplug it and the battery goes dead. Plus, I don't really like stomping on it on a day to day basis since it is a valuable vintage piece of gear.
I was a bit skeptical, but the new Dunlop EVH nails the sound! Side by side, in script logo mode, it sounds exactly like my original. The "modern" mode of this pedal is really just a more intense version of the same sound. This is wonderful, because it is just what I wished my original could do. Now, I can get that sound in a pedal that I can plug in and see when it is on.
This pedal is quiet, switches smoothly, and doesn't alter your tone, although it is technically not a true bypass. I have a few true bypass pedals, and also a few Keeley modded pedals that also aren't exactly true bypass. The bypass mode is just as good as any of my other pedals, so I'm happy with it.

My 30 year old phaser still functions properly, other than the occassional pop from the switch. I realize that this is not the same company, but the new one is built exactly the same - same rugged metal housing, same type of switch etc. These things are built like tanks. I would feel comfortable using it without a backup.

Considering that a vintage script logo will run you somewhere north of $200 and it won't have a nine volt adapter or led, this is a fantastic value. Besides nailing the script logo sound, the "modern" setting sounds better than I hoped - again, it's really just a more intense version of the sound. The blue LED is very nice, and it's also a demonstration that the guys who engineered this pedal are paying attention to the boutique pedal builders such as Robert Keeley, who also uses blue LED's in his custom pedals.
Overall, I am very impressed! I understand that certain Dunlop pedals are hit and miss when compared with the originals, but this is definitely a hit.

At first I was thinking that this was just another orange phase 90 with a cool paint job and a new blue light.
Well , I was wrong, this phaser sounds a LOT smoother than my orange phase 90 in the script mode and to be honest, I think it sounds better in the block mode also.
It is very quiet, and it just sounds amazing!

These MXR pedals seem to be buitl like tanks, but to be honest, I have mine in a rack and I use a switcher, so I never have to keep stepping on the button turning it on and off, so I don't know how well they would last if it wasn't in my swithcer.

THe paint job on mine is not as good as the pictures I have seen on the web. My paint job looks fuzzy and the white stips have light colored red lines on the outside of them, it is a different color red that n the rest of the pedal and I just don't think it looks right.

I bought this on the quest for the early EVH tone, and my search is over! A few years ago I bought a BOSS PH-2 phaser when I found a used one, thinking it has all those knobs so I should be able to tweak the sound. I was disappointed - keeping in mind I was after the EVH sound and I am only speaking for the slower rate settings. As a phaser otherwise, maybe the PH-2 is ok (as all those Incubus fans rave on it) but for what I wanted, it wasn't cutting it. At the time I didn't know that EVH used a Phase 90, or that there was a difference in the script and block models, etc. I thought a phaser is a phaser.
Now that I was ready to consider going after the EVH tone again and I knew the phase 90 is what I needed, they released the EVH model. I bought it blindly - I just walked in the store, scanned the glass counter cabinet until I saw the red white and black paint job, and said "I want THAT".
So without having ever played an orange Phase 90, I took it home and compared it to the Boss pedal. I A/B'd the 2 with their rates set at minimum (and the Boss "depth" at max so it would phase the longest stretch of sweeping, and "resonance" at minimum) while playing the hammering part of Eruption, and here's what I found:
Boss: When I kicked on the pedal, the treble was boosted and thinned out, shrieking away, and I could tell that there was a sweeping phase occurring, but it wasn't really musical to me, certainly not "Eruption" phasing. I tried tweaking a little, to no avail.
EVH Phase 90: When I kicked on this pedal (script mode on) I suddenly felt like I was cloning the tone I was after, it was Eruption! The treble boost was mellow and remained within the audible context the same as before engaging the effect - in other words the only change in turning this pedal on and off was I went from flat, to EVH style phase sweeping with no other tone changes to my ear. Even with the script switch off I noticed a slight change in the sound, but it still wasn't "bad" or harsh, and if someone changed the switch when I wasn't looking, and I picked up the guitar again, I probably wouldn't even notice. Maybe that's just because I'm so happy and relieved to finally be that close to the sound.
All I can say is if you want a phaser pedal, then it's up to you to decide which features you are after. If you want one for the EVH sound, you need this one, or at least an MXR phaser of some kind.

This effect helps me finally get the type of phasing I want in a phaser, although I have no plans to sell the Boss phaser, who knows when it may be handy to use 2 at once.
Mine came with a Danelectro 9v battery installed, although right on the bottom sticker of the unit it says it doesn't come with a battery. But I have a home made power supply so I took it out.
I wish the 9v adapter socket were on the "head" edge of the unit like on Boss pedals - not right by the input jack. But that's minor.
When I saw the paint job on this box online at first, I hated the idea of it standing out like that in my collection, but when I took it out of the box, it grew on me, and the paint is nice and rich looking, not so cheezy afterall.
