Easy to use. Once you get the attack control set correct based on the guitar you are using, you're set. It's a DynaComp with an attack knob - can't do much better than that.

Sound Quality : 10
I just sold my Keeley 4 knob compressor on ebay. The Keeley was sterile, plastic-tone, non-musical. The MXR SuperComp is "musical", transparent, and actually less noisy than the Keeley when set up similarly. This $69 pedal just sounds better "period". I've also compared this against the Maxon CP-9Pro and the Maxon CP101. Sorry guys, MXR SuperComp is the way to go!!

Reliability : 10
Mine has about 300 hours of use since I bought it a couple years now, no problems yet. Very solid

I haven't needed to deal with support.

I've been playing 28 years, owned many compressors in my time including the 70's DynaComp. The DynaComp was king in the 70's and
the SuperComp is king now. This version is more flexible with the added attack control which is a "must" for all compressors and makes the compressor more usable in various applications. As mentioned, I just sold my Keeley (that I paid $240 for) and the MXR keeps it's spot on my board. Sorry Mr. Keeley. If you want a "musical" voiced compressor, the Super Comp is the way to go.

only 3 knobs it's not rocket science.

Sound Quality : 9
I put this pedal 1st in my chain. it really made my entire sound better both clean and dirty. I do play metal and a iot of other people said this unit was only good for clean tones. This is not true, it works great for both as long as you have a good noise reductin unit in your chain. I have a rack system and use an ISP decimator rack unit. I would have gave this unit a 10 but nothing is perfect. my pedalboard is this 1st mxr super comp 2nd mxr micro amp 3rd mxr phase 90 4th h20 liquid chourus 5th dunlop wah. all runs through a mesa 290 power amp and quad preamp. And like i said an isd decimator and bbe sonic maximizer. Marshall 4x12 cabs. I am a tone whore and I love my sound with this pedal, I will never turn it off.

Reliability : 7
So far all my MXR pedals have lasted and are built to last.

Never needed it (knock on wood)

All I can say is I love what this pedal has done for me.

Bit of a learning curve, especially if this is your first comp. Three nobs. Thats a 50 increase in complexity over, for example, the dyna comp. But, come on, guys. Its still only THREE knobs. Take some time and you will be rewarded.

Sound Quality : 9
Dial it in right and you'll get some fantastic tone from your guitar and amp.
In response to some of the reviews below, it is in fact true bypass. The accusations
that it sucks tone when turned off were made by folks who simply became used
to how great it sounds when on, and were shocked to hear how bad their setup was
when they clicked it off. But it you listen to your guitar plug in without this pedal in your chain, and then listen again with the pedal in the chain but turned off, you'll hear no difference. So you can see that it is true bypass.
These guys who squeal "tone-sucker" are actually giving the pedal a great complement, i.e.,
that once you get used to it, you won't like the way things sound without it anymore.
Also, the guys who complain about noise probably have the output turned up way too high for their hot metalhead pickups.

Reliability : 10
Built like a little steel tank. No issues yet, and don't anticipate any, ever.

Customer Support : 9
Only dealt with them over an old wah that I bought used, and they were super good
at returning emails and very cool on the phone. Great.

Overall Rating : 9
Probably the best compressor for the buck on the market today. Comps that cost twice as much don't sound any better, and some are alot nosier.

It's a bit hard to figure out this pedal... not because I don't know what a compressor does, but because when you turn one knob, you have to adjust the other 2 to compensate. It's a bit tricky, but after a while you get a hang of it.
I just leave mine on the same settings. 1/2 level, 3/4 attack, 1/2 sensitivity.

Sound Quality : 9
This thing sounds great. Very little noise added when it's on... it's not completely silent though. As for it being a true bypass... it works for me.
Maybe there was something with some of the other people's setups that caused a bit of tone to be sucked. But I do not experience it with my rig.

Reliability : 10
made of metal. Tough as nails. I gig without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
This is a great pedal for the $$. If it were stolen, I might get a dynacomp, or another supercomp (if I could find it for a good price).

It's really easy to use, just 3 knobs for output, attack and sensitivity.

Sound Quality : 4
The amount of compression is just right for me, however it adds quite a bit of hum if your attack or sensitivity is turned past 12 o'clock. The unit I received however hummed even when the effect was bypassed. This is what i don't understand. The super-comp has hardwired by-pass, yet when it is used with the AC adaptor it hums like crazy with the effect bypassed. I'm returning it to the shop today.

Very easy to setup, 3 knobs and a manuals that explains the setup.

The sound quality is great, does what I want it to do, its quiet and warm. I tried the Digitech Main Squeeze and it was way to noisey and did seem to do much.

It's not that easy to get a good sound of this pedal. Even if you know what a compressor is. This comp is made for clean sounds, not really for distorted or heavy sounds. You have to deal with the three knobs to get what you want. They interact with eachother. All the good critics come from people who play clean or with little crunch. With heavy disto, it's very difficult to feel the differences with a noiseless compressed sound and the original one. I tried a lot, I read a lot about the settings and at the end, I use this pedal for a strict clean sound.

Sound Quality : 8
If you think this comp is a sustainer, then beware of noise ! level and sens are not really linear so it's hard to set them well. Don't think you can max both either.
Anyway, this comp pedal gives you a kind of presence when you play arpeggios and clean chords, and a kind of elastic sounding too on the solos. That's why I love it. The general sounding is clear, with high efficiency if you spend time to set it correcly, not too chunky, not too open, not too loud, etc...depending on your guitar, amp of course.
I found the good sound with my strat, it's not the same setting with my Les Paul but it's still great with clean sound. It can also give you more gain even with level under the amp vol if the attack setting is past 2 o'clock.. I don't really understand that, because it's supposed to be a comp, not a booster !
This pedal will give you the Guilmour sound, definitly. I give a 8 because I couldn't find the use with disto channel.

Reliability : 9
Classic MXR tank-like building.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 8
As I said, Not useful for shredders...great for delicate players. Not really versatile, but the sound you get from it is great, clear and if set correctly, you can'hear the effect, which is impossible with a boss CS for example.
If lost ? I don't know, it's expansive for the use I have.

3 buttons.....easy to dial in a good tone !!!

Sound Quality : 9
Every so often you stumble across a pedal and you wonder why everyone does not use it...I have read soo many negative reviews on this site and this pedal has come in for some stick....I have tried and used many different compressors and this is far and away the best....I owned the original DynaComp and was always a little disappointed because the effect is so obvious when it is switched on....this pedal is just what I have spent the last couple of years looking for....it is dead quiet....especially when compared to the DynaComp and it is totally transparent.....it reminds me of the Sex Drive by Durham Electronics because you don't realise that you have it switched on until you switch it off....I have it positioned first in my effects chain in front of my overdrive and booster pedals....I would go so far as to say that it actually improvesmy sound....I was thinking of spending more than twice what I paid for this on a Keeley, but I don't think that I will now cos this is the one for me !!

Reliability : No Opinion
Built like a tank...the only bit likely to cause problems is the switch....but time will tell....own several MXR pedals and all have been reliable apart from the notoriously unreliable Zakk Wylde overdrive, which has been a pain in the arse !!

Customer Support : No Opinion
No experience

Overall Rating : 10
One of those special pedals that you come across from time to time...superb sound, transparent, quiet....what more do you want...ignore many of the bad reviews and try one for yourself !!!

It takes a while to find a nice sound, but not so much. 3 knobs

Sound Quality : 5
Well the sound itself is really really nice, one of the best low-end compressor available, i think. Rich, clear, no chicken pickin (whatever you call it). This pedal sounds very good when it's ON. BUT: when it's OFF, it really SUCKS your tone. I've read some reviews saying that this MXR is truebypass: well, IT'S NOT, and it's so simple to hear how much this pedal sucks the tone of your guitar. It's the first thing i noticed.
So, this pedal it's NOT truebypass.

Reliability : No Opinion

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 5
If you have or you will buy for sure a truebypass box, or a TB looper, you will be happy with this compressor. Otherwise, leave it at the music store and buy a Keeley

Very easy to use. A bit of experimentation is recommended if you are new to compressors. Randmoly twirling knobs until you hear it doing it's job is not the way. Also, unlike other stomps, it is not set and forget. Change the volume and the effect changes.

Anyway, three knobs: Level, Attack (how fast the compressor reacts) and sensitivity (how much compression is applied).

Overdo either attack or sens and your tone will sound lifeless with no dynamics.

Sound Quality : 9
It does what it is supposed to do.

Reliability : 10
No rpoblems whatsoever

MXR takes a few days to reply to emails.

I would buy it again.
