If you can't figure out how to turn a knob you're an idiot.

Ok. I use a fender strat (with hs-3/yjm pickups) into a marshall valvestate. The valvestate coupled with the pickups isn't enough fro RAGING TR00 METHUL CRUNCH. I bought a DOD YJM overdrive as a solo boost. Better, but i ended up leaving it on all the time... I needed that solo boost so i bought a 10 band eq. I ended up using that to add even more crunch to my amp at all times. Dammit! Then i read about this thing. I thought "Hey! that's great! loud in a pedal!." Bought it, put it in the loop, turned it up and I was much louder. That's all i wanted! Thank you MXR.

Pretty sturdy, but the knob is uber loose. It came with one of those old assed Dunlop knobs too, so that's pretty cool, i guess. It looses a point because knobs shouldn't be loose.

Well, if i end up leaving this on, i'll buy another one so i can be Pennsylvania's loudest guitarist. But for right now, it seems to do the job fine.

i use a les paul and a kramer quad rail i also have a washburn and fernandez and they all sound great through a 5150II and i usualy use a zakkwylde overdrive to boost the signal but i found it sounded too much like a wah wah pedal to much bark and bite but with the micro amp i have better tone more efficient boost and for some reason the power cable stays in better(?) it does have a hiss because i usualy have it loud alot of gain already but its still awsome

Play alot of hard rock such as ozzy osbourne, van halen poison, motley crue, yngwie malmsteen, ect and this is the perfect boost for any song. ive been playing a year and a half im 13 and i just cherish every moment playing eruption through this thing. if it were ever stolen if would buy a knife and hunt them down and i think the micro amp would also be used in the killing prosses. you cant do a ton with it but it does make a difference.....
BRENDAN MALONEY (ME) IS BETTER THAN NICK STERLING AND HE'S BEEN PLAYING LIKE 3 TIMES LONGER THAN ME........ LOSER BY THE WAY EVENTUALLY MY MUSIC WILL TAKE OVER AND HAIR METAL WILL RISE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ON LY BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. Very simple, one input, one output, gain knob and switch. Only possible fault is the battery changing: u gotta unscrew the bottom to hook a battery in, but i just run it off a standard PSU on my board, so no probs. Got a nice bright red LED wen on.

Well, its intended to be used as a volume boost and it certainly comes up with the goods. I use this for bass (an active wif 3band EQ) and i find that it sorta emphasizes the settings on the bass a little bit which is pretty fair enough because active basses werent popular wen this was designed and it IS a guitar pedal. I found that it can be used to brighten up a fuzz box, and wen using an amp with a valve pre-amp, it can cause some nice 60s retro bass fuzz ala Jack Bruce at low gain input volume on amp. It does wat its meant to do, and i likes it cause its gd :p
Also doesnt colour ur signal wen off (or at least i havent noticed.)

Well, i know some people who've still got working vintage ones (this is a re-issue.) hope that it lives up to my expectations. Its built like a brick, better than some Boss pedals. I'd definately gig without a backup.

Well, it does wat its meant to do, and it does it well. I use it at the end of my signal chain that looks like this:
BASS> Monkey FX Badgerbaiter(bypass loop) and in the loop i run:
EBS multicomp> Dunlop 105q wah> Roger Mayer Voodoobass> back to badgerbaiter> Microamp.
Wat can i say? it boosts my overall volume, emphasizes some of my effects which i like and its absolutely perfect for solos and "F***'s sake!!!! I wish i was louder!!!!!!!!" moments LOL.
I would definitely buy again. Forget about using EQ pedals for volume boosts (ive tried, messes with ur tone bigtime)
Anything else? er.... it looks a bit retro as its an off white creamy colour which i like. It matches everything else on my pedal board (everything is black and white except for my Badgerbaiter which is metalic).... er thats it i guess. Hope this reviews useful.

This effect is a "boost" effect, it's not noisy , it doesn't change your tone only your output volume, it's great playing solos that use a clean sound that's boosted to cut over the rhythm section

MXR , metal housing, solid switch, compact , only drawback is the knob is looser than the other MXR effects I've got, but you can actually use your foot to move it if you want to for any reason, it's that loose

I've got a artist in residence relationship with Dunlop/MXR, they've been very professional , and their service is great. If you want reliable service try going back to a manufactuer, I do that for all significant products, it might take a little longer but it's done right , and the company will see how their product performs in the field

Great pedal, very simple, very clean, very neccessary if you want to do a lead solo with out the crunch or sustain of distortion unit or compresser.

Turn it on and leave it. I've found that the way to use any effect of this sort is to put it last in the chain, leave it on all the time, set as high as it will go, and then set your amp and effects accordingly. In fact I don't really regard any effect as giving its all without going through some type of boost.

Carvin AH-1 or PRS EG4 (the older better version) into a Vox AC30 with various effects at various times. An overdrive is also needed for singing lead at low volumes. But whatever I'm going through, the MicroAmp lifts and separates.

This type of pedal doesn't transform any sound, it's not meant to. What it does is supercharges and brightens existing sounds and adds sustain and drive where you're already coaxing them out by other means. For example,it gets the Vox AC30 normal channel sounding like it's on 11 at around halfway, but brings out the brightness (which otherwise just isn't there) while leaving in the body and depth.

if you're looking for an overdrive, I'd say buy an overdrive. If you're looking for something that will allow you to get louder when you need to be louder, this is money well spent.
I use it last in my small effect chain and tgurn it on when I want the same sound I already have, but louder.
Sometimes I use it ON all the time when playing with a Tele. It gives the pickups a little hekp without altering the sound like a compressor.
I suppose it might drive the front end of an amp enough to get it to break up, but I don;t use it that way. I set the knob at 12:00 and that's just right for a volume boost for a solo or general I Wish I Was Louder Moment.

My signal runs from guitar - Cry baby - boss pedal tuner - TS 808 - Boss Tremelo - Boss Phaser - Mesa 50 watt single rec head - fx out to EH small clone - Boss DD3 - MXR Micro Amp - fx Return.
Using the Micro Amp in the FX loop gives huge volume boost without changing the sound. Ideal for solo's

I owned one and sold it thinking the solo boost on the boogie would do the job. It did but not at all size gigs. So I've just bought another. Cuts through the loud animal behind bashing the drums with ease when used in the loop. Try it front end for a different kind of boost.

Well it didnt do want I thought it would do so its hard for me to be happy about this pedal, I was under the impression it was a solo boost type pedal. Well, the boost was so insignificant that I have to give it a lower rating. Although, there are many reviews that state it does boost...so you will have to try for yourself, i dont recommend it for a boost, but maybe as a grit and slight OD pedal....

My setup is an American Texas Fat Strat and a Mesa Boogie Mark II C+ Combo amp. Running into the front of the amp I use a (in this order)Ernie Ball Volume pedal> MXR Micro Amp> Ibanez TS-9DX Tube Screammer. Through the effect loop I run a 70's MXR flanger> Teac 10 band EQ> Ibanez CS-9 Chorus. First I was using the tube screamer without the micro amp and it sounded REAL GOOD! Put a micro amp in front of the tube screamer and OHHHH MY GOD! The tube screamer wakes up my amp but the micro amp wakes up the tube screamer. THIS IS THE LONGEST SUSTAINNING SWEETEST LIQUID SOUND I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! All the expression that you make with your guitar comes out so nice and sweet. I read that Stevie Ray Vaughan used this setup with two tube screamers. Thats what gave me the idea to try it. The thing I like the most about the micro amp is the fact that it is so clean and clear it will take whatever signal you are running through it and just boost it without adding color or sucking tone away. Great for making your leads stand out in front of the rest of the band. A must have buy itself if you are into very clean lead playing.

There might something better out there but I think it will cost more than $89.00. I am very happy with it and it is a must have in my pedal lineup. If it were stolen I would buy two just to make sure I am not without one. For 70's rock and blues, with a tube screamer and a great tube amp, it nails the sound!! I have been playing for 30 years some of that professionally (until I got married and had kids). Music and tone is a passion with me. A guitar has to sing to me before it sounds right. The micro amp helps me with that cause! One thing MXR does that most other pedal makes don't do is make their pedal knobs usable with your foot (with a rubber adapter that goes over the knob). That is a great feature for on the fly adjustment while you are playing. A micro amp is a simple circut that probally doesn't cost more than $20.00 to produce. But I guess your paying for the magic inside the box and the demand is there for what they charge.

I love it. I might need to get another one. I tried it before the amp and in the fx loop. I originally bought it intending to use it in the fx loop as a solo boost, which it does perfectly. It sounded so cool in front of the amp that I may get another one for that purpose.
