Pretty easy to use - a bit hard to read the selector switch to know whether it's on chorus, modern chorus, flanger, phaser, step phaser or vibe. But it's not a deal breaker - especially at this price. It's easy to get a great sound from this stereo modulation pedal that can be had for a song. Not great for switching sounds live on stage - best to find a sound and stick with it - good to take to a studio - very versatile pedal.

I think this pedal sounds really good. I like both choruses, the flanger is pretty good, the phaser is okay - the vibe doesn't sound like a vibe but it's useful. The step phaser is useless IMHO.
It's not terribly noisy. I use this mainly as a stereo splitter to run two amps at the end of my chain and it works well for that purpose. I don't think the effects are particularly weak - they can be subtle or more over the top if you want - depending on how you set it up. I have used an expression pedal to adjust the rate and that works really well. I have no complaints with this pedal.

I bought this pedal off of ebay for like 35 bucks and I wasn't expecting too much. I am blown away by it actually. It has a lot of very good usable sounds in it. It doesn't appear to suck tone. I don't use modulation a lot and I wanted something small and inexpensive that would do the job - I've had the pedal for a few months and I can't complain. I believe marshall discontinued these which is kind of a shame. I wish the knobs were a bit easier to read, but it's such a good deal I'm not complaining. I've been through EXH small stones, DLS choruses, MXR flangers, Boss super phasers, Boss choruses, Line 6 stuff and this kind of does them all and for 35 bucks....! hah

Very easy to get a sound out of this pedal. Again, as many people have mentioned, there is a problem seeing the settings on the pedal as they're only lightly indented with a lot of shiny metal, so it's hard to see the settings. Find your own fix using a red piece of tape or something! It seems to be something Marshall have done stylistically, perhaps not too sensibly!

Sound quality is great. I have no tone suck at all, with this pedal sitting near the end of the pedal signal chain (after Marshall's excellent delay). Again, my pedal seems to add volume to the overall sound, no matter what setting it's on - as some people have found via reviews across the web. I have no other complaints about the pedal. Having 2 choruses is great and both give a different sound. The phaser and flanger aren't too bad. Have used the Vibe option a couple times too.

For something this inexpensive, you get a lot of bang for your buck. It isn't the platinum standard of chorus, but it's more than good enough for most of us semi-pro or amateurs playing in churches or bars etc. Other than the shiny knobs and the volume boost, I'd recommend to someone wanting this kind of pedal. It was a close call between this and the Vibratrem or Supervibe. I probably chose well due to the varied nature of the effects. Just be aware the expression pedal input is exactly that and not any kind of tap tempo.

Fisrt of all this is dead silent when off. No hiss and no tone suck. I placed it in a bypass loop to test that. And only minimal noise when engaged, which you can expect with mod effects. the different effects themselves sound great and, except for the step phase, are all very musical. I don't know why something more useful was not included instead of the step phase. Maybe a tremolo? Still, having 5 effects in a such a tiny package is great.

These are discontinued but new ones go for about 70 bucks on the bay and for that price, it's a steal. I love being able to go from chorus to phase to flange without having to lay a bunch of pedals out on the floor. I just whip out the Regenerator, dial up and effect and see where that takes me. To me, that makes this pedal almost as useful and inspiring as a loop station in helping to create musical ideas

Very easy to use, no need to read the manual. Four knobs: one to select the type of mod effect and three to get the tone (speed, depth and regen).
Depending on each effect, regen (dry/wet signal) should be adjusted because some effects soud stronger than others.

I use Gibson SG, Gibson Les Paul studio, Dean vendetta 4 FR guitars and George Dennis the blue amp (like Marshall TSL but better sounding) and Park g25r prectice amp. I also use a lot of pedals: Nady TD-1,Morley wha,Marshall shred master,George dennis tremolo, Marshall echohead delay and sometimes i also use Sansamp GT2 and MXR smart gate.
It can be used through the input or the effect loop of the amp, souds good anyway.
Not noisy, maybe a little bit. Produces a volume boost when is engaged which i don??t like very much. About tone sucking, i can??t tell because i normally use a double looper so sound is not running through the pedal when is not working.
Vintage chorus is GREAT! good sounding and soft effect. I like soft modulation effects, not extreme at all.
Modern chorus is not bad, maybe a bit extreme, but i always use vintage one.
Flanger is crap. Useless. Doesn??t actually sound like a flanger. Too weak.
Phaser is good. standart phaser sound. Goes from soft to extreme, depending on the amount of depth. I love the low speed settings.Good for Van Halen.
Step Phaser is an alien effect. Almost usless for me. Sounds quite digital and is a little noisy, but is decent.
Uni-v is beautiful. Playing Hendrix with it is great.
Tree quite good effect, one decent and one horrible for a few money.

I have been playing 15 years. i play everything from jazz to metal, but mostly rock and metal. I think itis a good match, i have a good chorus, a good phaser and a good uni-v for 70 ???. Don??t need more.I have had a Boss ME-50 multieffects unit and its modulations were worse than the Marshall. I also had Boss chorus, which sounded very well, but Marshall Regenerator doesn??t sound worse. I have tried many guitars, amps and pedals and i own several gear. I know that the analog devices sound better, like MXR Phase 90 or Electro-Harmonix chorus and flanger, but this Marshall sounds good and it is cheap. Great for players like me who don??t use effcts too much.
If were stolen i would buy a new one if i haven??t enough money for a Line 6 MM6 or a TC Nova Modulator. Both of them have many digital modulation effects as the Marshall but probably sound better and have more options and sounds.

Easy to use in a bedroom - four knobs and a stomp switch. A bugger to use on stage if you're planning on using more than one effect. Even more difficult if you change the settings quite a lot (I subscribe to the Robert Smith philosophy on effects pedals - set it at 9.00, 12.00, 3.00 or full - anything else is just arsing about). I might grapple with it more except that I'm the lead singer in the band as well as the only guitarist - continuity during a show goes to pot if I start fiddling with my pedals so I tend to use the vintage chorus setting in one position and leave it at that. I have used the flanger but then have to remember to switch it back again!

Very quiet effect and some great sounds. The vintage chorus is my fave and the reason I bought it - much better than many boutique and expensive chorus pedals and far superior to the Boss one in my opinion. The Boss chorus always sounds like Boss chorus whereas this is warmer and responds better to using different guitars. With the Boss one I used to have the guitar I was playing didn't seem to make any difference to the sound. The modern chorus is too digital for my tastes so I don't use it. The flanger is great for those Cure moments but the real sonic sweeps are best achieved using a boutique pedal I think. The phaser's cool and I use that when depping for rock bands. Like many reviewers, I quite like the step phaser without ever figuring out how the hell to use it in a song. The vibe is not something I use - if I did I'd use tremelo and thought with the regen knob turned down you can get near that sound you can't actually get it - so in my book that means don't bother. I don't have an issue with volume jump or popping like some reviewers below - lucky I guess.
I use a tele and a les paul through an Orange Rocker 30. The only things in my pedal chain are a Boss tuner, the RGO and a micro POG (EHX) - use the amp's overdrive though don't use any regeneration effect when the dirty channel's activated - doesn't sound bad but I just don't use them together.

Really great pedal. By far the best chorus I have come across for a long time (doesn't sound like you're stuck in a wine bar in 1983). It has lots of features which I don't use but so what? When I play mandolin I have it on all night with every setting at 12.00 - fills out the sound beautifully (and then I do use it with overdrive!) I wouldn't be without this pedal now. I've had it over a year and it's become an integral part of my set-up.

Awesome sound. The two Chorus settings are great, and they actually sound very different from each other so you can get a wide range of chorus effects. The flange, phase and vibe modes sound great too, but I rarely use them - I bought this as a chorus pedal.
I think this sounds better than the other chorus pedals I tried from Boss, Digitech (X series)and Line 6. Digitech's "Hardwire" series Chorus pedal was very nice too, but I went with the Marshall because was cheaper (closeout sale), it had the other modulations effects and it works with the BOSS adapters I already have.
At first, I thought the Step Phaser was kind of a useless effect - but it's actually really cool if you use it while fingerpicking on your clean channel - it kind of sounds like a delay pedal.

I wish this had an EQ knob or low/high filter knobs like the Boss Chorus pedals do. Other than that, there is nothing I would change. I think it sounds much better than the Boss pedals though. I would buy this again if something happened to it.
You can get nice subtle effects without changing your tone, I felt the other pedal brands changed the tone more and sounded unnatural like something from a sci-fi movie.

Last night a tested this baby using nothing but my guitar, a DiCastelli's Custom (Brazilian hand made guitar) loaded with a pair of EMG pick ups (81 bridge/85 neck) and my JCM 800... the result was absolutelly superb! All the efx sounded pretty natural and warm. The vintage chorus was my favorite one, it doesn't sound digital at all and does it's job really well, although I still prefer my CE-2! The modern chorus is also good, but it didn't surprise me that much, it's just good. With the Flanger you can get that jet plane sound without any problems, it's not as intense as a MXR or a Boss but it's good, I got some pretty nice Van Halen sounds out of it. The Phaser is my second favorite effect here, it doens't have that flangy kinda sound (which is great, cause if I want a flangy sound, I'm gonna use a Flanger, right?!)... it sounds more like a vintage 70??s Phaser. You can get a nice Gilmour or Triumph sound using this effect. The Step Phaser is probably the most useless effect I've ever heard after the GT-8 Auto Riff,lol... you'll probably use it only in your bedroom to create sci-fi sounds and scare your little brother. Now, let's talk about the Vibrato... well, I've never really been into Vibratos, so my opinion here doesn't count very much. If you want vibration I'm sure it won't let you down. I prefer to use it emulating a tremolo rather than a vibrato. My friends who like vibratos and tremolos really digged it, but all of them said that it's not as good as a Uni-Vibe or a Deja Vibe. The only problem I found in the pedal is that when you activate it, it boosts the volume a little bit and sometimes it bugs me, but that's ok, I can live with that! Anyway... it's a great stomp box!

Very user friendly. Mode knob on the left dictates chorus, flange, etc. Has a depth control, speed, and regeneration control also. Set the mode, adjust the controls for the sound you want and presto, you're rockin'. One drawback is that you'll need to stoop down to change modes (what multi-function pedal is different). The only other complaint I have regarding the RG-1 is that the control knobs are so shiney I cannot see what setting it is on. I'm going to look into getting black control knobs instead of the chrome.

This masterpiece sounds great. Vintage chorus is exquisite; very nice, even creamy sounds for slowing things down. Flange is absolutely awesome. Back off the depth, slow the speed down, set your amp so that it's on the verge of feedback, and this baby will bring it in for some awesome dynamic strength in your solos. I have never used a very strong flange effect for anything I've ever played in my thirty nine years of guitar exploration. I've found that the step phaser is extremely useful if you are having trouble with the band keeping time starting a song to get the tempo moving...other than that, I haven't found it very useful...but it does sound cool.
I've also found it can get noisy when the battery starts to drink up.

I play alot of Christian rock and have been playing for almost forty years. I use Epi LP w/DiMarzio pickups and Carvin DC135 guitars thru all Carvin amps. I have always wanted a pedal that had a group of great sounding effects and Marshall did it. This baby is great for live gigs if you don't mind stooping down to switch modes. I have never heard one of those multi-function emulating floor boards that has not altered the sound of a guitar, and to be fair, this one alters the sound somewhat but not if it's idle.
Some folks claim the RG-1 is too noisy. Go to the Marshall website, check out the soundclips and decide for yourself if it is noisy.
I don't think so...and those clips were "recorded" somewhere.

Vintage Chorus - 10/10 A great chorus effect, I would say it is a better chorus than the Boss CH-1 and the Ibanez CS-9 that I used to own.
Modern Chorus - 8/10 I don't use this one much, I prefer the vintage chorus setting.
Flanger - 7/10 A decent flanger, but not as good as the MXR Flanger and the Ibanez FL-9 that I used to own. Still sounds cool with distortion though.
Phaser - 10/10 A great phaser effect, better than the MXR Phaser 90 and the Electro Harmonix Small Stone that I used to own. I use this effect and the vintage chorus the most.
Step phaser - No opinion. I don't see any way to use this effect. It sounds funny, but I don't know how to use it in a song.
Vintage Vibe - 9/10 Very cool uni-vibe effect. I find I have to turn the depth and regeneration knobs all the way up for it to sound good. On fast settings it is almost like a tremolo.
Note that I used to own some other pedals, and have sold them all when I bought the Regenerator.

This is a typical stomp box pedal that runs on 9v battery or ac power. There are 6 different modulation styles. Vintage Chorus, Modern Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Step Phaser and V-Vibe. 4 controls for mode, speed, depth and regen. 2 inputs including one for an expression pedal and stereo out jacks. My only complaint for this unit is the same as the previous reviewer which is that the control knobs are hard to read when on stage. Otherwise this is an excellent pedal and very easy to operate.
Sound Quality
:

The sound quality is the reason I purchased this unit. The Vintage Chorus and the V-Vibe settings are my personal favourites but the Phaser and Modern Chorus are also very useful as well. I am not a fan of Flange and the Step Phaser is a bit much for my taste. The sound is very transparent and linear as it only adds the selected modulation as needed. It is also very quiet and does not seem to suck tone away, as some of the more popular modulation pedals do. There are plenty of variations for each setting so one can find the right speed, depth and regeneration factor for whatever particular style one requires.

The RG-1 is housed in a very strong one piece metal casing and the on/off foot switch has a very sure feel to it. The pedal controls are recessed below the top point of the pedal where the foot switch is so one can not step on them and change the settings, or break the knobs either. In short, it is a rugged, durable, reliable pedal that is very gig worthy.

This is an excellent pedal made by a company which is noted for their line of powerful hi-octane amplifiers. It has more to offer than the industry standard modulation pedals offered by companies such as Boss, Electro-Harmonix, etc. at the same price point. It is every bit as tough as a Boss pedal (which I own several of, so I can make that direct comparison) and will likely last as long as any other piece of gear one uses. A great pedal to add to the chain, in any rig.

Functionally, this pedal is very easy to use. Unfortunately, the shiny crome-dome knobs are literally IMPOSSIBLE to read under stage lights. I fixed this by paiting the top of the knobs with finger nail polish, then marked them with a sharpee. I've read many reviews of different Marshall pedals with this same complaint. Come on, Marshall, take a hint.

I like the vintage chorus. It has a wide range. Set it higher for a vintage rock chorus, or set it lower for a fuller sound without any detectable chorus effect.
M.Chorus is fine, but more extreme.
Flanger doesn't impress me much, but I probably won't use it much any way. Phaser is okay. I realy like the vibe effect. Turn the Regen knob down and it almost sounds like a tremelo. Again - it has a wide range and a lot of versatility- that's one of the reasons I picked it over the other brands.
I run direct in my live set up. Seems quiet - no noise.
One drawback - the high frequencies of the signal seems to boost a little when I run it in combo with a distortion pedal. Not bad, but something I have to adjust for.
Overall, a nice sound. Doesn't sound nearly as digital as most other brands.

I play in a praise band where I run direct into a primo house system and in a classic rock band where I run through a mic'ed amp. This pedal works well in both situations. I did a lot of research and testing before I bought it. I was looking for a decent sounding, low noise pedal with lots of versatility. So far, it's worked out great with my cleaner settings. I'm still fiddling with how to get the best sounds in combination with distortion. My chain looks like this:
Custom Tele w/humbuckers (or Strat with single coils) > Boss tuner > Tube Screamer > Boss EQ > Sansamp TriAC > Marshall Regenerator > Marshall Echohead > Marshall reverb > DI > mixer (or amp).
One word of caution: all my Marshall pedals eat a lot of power. I solved this by buying a $20 One Spot adapter and daisy chained everything to it. Life's too short to hassle with batteries.

I tested it with a guitar but really use it for keyboards.
I was after a something analogue with an expression pedal but couldn't find one on the market anywhere.
I settled for this and I must say for the money its pretty good.
It does flavour the sound a bit(as you'd expect) and it doesn't like loud high frequencies whn using the "univibe" setting(you get a little clipping on the positive arc of the wave).
The step phaser can get you some pretty unique tones, it sortof acts like an areggiator but with filter frequencies as opposed to the main sound.

if it were lost or nicked I'd probably get another one as its a versatile little device and can use it on nay sound source.
I have a couple other FX units and its better that the Virtualizer but not as warm as the Tonelab(though live you can't really tell the difference).
Its more than a 1 trick pony though I'd like to see these features in an analogue product, its best feature is the expression pedal input.
If it could have jut one other feature it'd be a 2nd button(or optional footswitch) to scroll through the multiple FX rather than getting down on the floor.
It'l add to any setup and I forsee that it'll help in many situations.
Best thing is that it ree's up my hands!

I play this through a maverick xtreme fed into an ns2,then running though its effects loop a cry baby marshall ed -1, jh-1, boss ge7, marshall rg-1, and vt-1, ibanez cs-9, then finally boss dm2 which is run through the amps effects loop, which is a laney tf300 combo
This is a versatile pedal, and is a very useful bit of kit to anyones rig that requires quality products at an affordable price.
As far as what sounds are avaliable:
vintage chorus is pretty good, so good in fact that marshall have now discontinued their supervibe pedal due to this.
multi chorus, this setting I don't really like much feels a little too digital and not overly useful due to the vintage chorus.
Flanger, this isn't bad, you can get the jet engine sound, or squelchy water sound and many inbetween
Phaser, this is my favourite, and what I usually have it set on, it does add a nice swell to your sound and gives it a nice bit of warmth.
Step Phaser, well its fun to mess around with, I'm sure someone will find a use for it
vibe, this isn't too bad, I tend not to use this much due to having marshalls vibatrem and I often use that for that vibe sound. but this isn't too bad, and can make some good sounds.
The pedal is quite noisy but whack it though a noise suppresor, and you wouldn't even know its on.

I use this mainly for metal playing, I find it most helpful on the phaser setting, with tweaking you can get close to that van halen sound.
If it were lost I would certainly buy another one, and I'll be getting the expression pedal for it shortly and then I think it'll be perfect.
Just be sure to use a noise suppressor cause it can be noisy when using gain, and it also kills that marshall pop that can be audiable when turned on and off.

Very easy to use. Its also quite easy to get some bad sounds out of it too just use your ears (obviously). The manual isn't really necessary to help you use it. Using it mainly with an Ibanez RG through to a Marshall TSL100 both in front and in the effects loop. I found that through the loop was slightly better. The sounds are reasonable, good considering the price and versatility. Chorus was ok, not as good as a dedicated pedal. The phaser and flanger were useful as they are only effects you should use sparingly anyway. The step phaser was interesting although I was unable to find a use for it in the context of a song.

This is where I was a little disappointed. First problem was the pop everytime you switched it on or off. It was too loud to ignore and repeated if the delay was switched on. I had another marshall pedal at the time which also did the same thing. None of my other pedals have this problem. Maybe it was my setup but i tried different amps, guitars, power supplies & cables without any luck.
The second fault was that sometimes I would switch it on and nothing would come out despite the light being on. In the end I coud not trust this pedal so had to take it back to the shop after 3 weeks of trying.

Overall I was looking for a versatile pedal which could produce some descent sounds. This pedal could do that and I would've kept it apart from the loud pop when switching on or off. Curious to hear if anyone else has experienced this problem and knows how to get around it. I wanted to like this pedal and very nearly did.

Four knobs, one selecting the mode, the remaining three speed, depth and regeneration (amount of signal affected). It's easy to get a reasonable sound, but more difficult to get - or more likely, remember - the settings for each mode. For live work, it's best to try and find speed, depth and regen settings that work reasonably well for each mode, and simply select between each mode as required.

Signal path is Gibson SG, Mexican Strat or Epiphone SG (tuned to Drop B)>TU2 tuner>Electro Harmonix POG Octaver>Ibanez WD1 weeping demon Wah>Boss DD3 Digital delay>Zoom UF1 fuzz>Bozz MT2 Metalzone>Marshall bluesbreaker 2 (used for boost)>Marshall RG1 Regenerator into Laney tf300 combo. The RG1 is not a noisy pedal at all, but it can be difficult to get a good balance between a weak effect or an effect that seems to sit on top of the signal rather than affecting it, per se. Judicious use of the 'Regen' control seems to be key to avoiding this. It's particularly evident when combining the RG1 with 'dirt' pedals. The Chorus settings are pretty good, particularly the Multi Chorus, the flanger OK but can be a little weak sounding, the Phaser fine but slightly uninspiring, the step phaser all but unusuable (for me) and the univibe similation pretty OK but at low regen settings it's very close to the Chorus settings (but I guess that's the point). Couldn't get particularly close to the sound I was after (Sip of wine by Barclay James Harvest, 70's prog-rock fans), but it gets me closer than I was before. Overall the sound quality is just fine but never really great. Do bare in mind though, this is a cost-effective digital simulation of several effects so there's going to be some compromises. Understand this before you buy, and don't expect more than is reasonable and you'll be a satisfied customer. Looking forward to trying the stereo flanging (needs two amps) as this promises to be great for bigger stages!

I have used the Marshall Ch1 Chorus pedal and Bluesbreaker 2 for a number of years in a mild amount of live use. Never once have they given me cause for concern; testiment to Marshall's design and manufacturing quality. They don't even look used after this period. Buy with confidence.

Been playing five to six years, live for the last two. Music is a rare old mix of punky stuff with a U2/Stereophonics/Blondie delivered with an experimental bent. And Didgeridoo (www.tetratum.com). The RG1 is a good enough piece of equipment - eminently capable but not really that inspiring. If it were stolen, I wouldn't be particularly upset as they're readily available, consistent and cheap enough so I'd just buy another. I'd probably sulk a little at the thief's cheek though. I don't really love anything about it, but I certainly don't hate anything either. My favourite feature is really the versatility in a compact, study pedal, and it doesn't really compare that easily with other products barring a dedicated 'all in one' multi-effects unit - which isn't a like-for-like comparison. It does help me make music, but I'm afraid it's sheer competence is also the cause of slight blandness and a lack of inspiration.

No noise at all. Clear sounds. Not very analogue-like, but not vapid and digital either. Sensible tones and not so sensitive tones available.

Strong, catch all pedal for those who use modulation sparingly. Lots of useful, inspiring tones. NO, its not boutique, but then judge it by how it sounds. Better quality than my SIB Mr. Echo.
Overall top pedal. You can't go wrong

very easy 6 way switch to select effect i.e. chorus, multi chorus, flanger, phaser, step phaser or vibe.speed, depth and regen controls complete the picture.

the pedal does master the individual effects to a fashion but dont expect to hear anything like a phase 90 or a mxr flanger or dunlop univibe from this as the sounds are all pretty sterile, also the noise in background is terrible all sorts of spuradic noises hisses, farts, burps the lot!whe the notes tail away you can hear distortion creeping in,i thought the pedal was faulty and took it back to shop but the replacement was the same

psu only ,battery last 10 minutes, this sucker eats batterys like theres no tomorrow.the current consumption is 80ma an mxr phase 90 is 5ma.i think its because its a digital pedal rather than analogue.also the switch looks very weedy.
